  • Coming Attractions & Perhaps Saturday Night Open Post (if you ask really nicely)

    Hey, kids! It’s Saturday night!

That means it’s time to clue you in on all the great stuff we’ve got lined up for next week here at The Last Best Place on the Internet.

I guess a few people didn’t like the number of posts in their listing on the Contributing Writers page, because we’ve had a little flurry of new posts coming in. Woohoo!

This coming week in addition to the regular great Daily Links posts by Sloopy, BrettL, and OMWC, we’ve got beloved regular features from mexican sharpshooter, SugarFree (unless the work monsters or his cats gobble him up), Web Dom, Not Adahn, trshmnstr, and yours truly. We’ve also got Part 6 of Suthenboy’s Reloading Series, and new pieces from The Hyperbole, Gadianton, straffinrun, CPRM, Sensei, Animal, and hopefully, BakedPenguin’s NFL pick-’em for Week 3 of the regular season. (No pressure, BP!)

Oh, anyone interested in the autumn Beer It Forward (BIF)? See below and make sure you do the part about emailing Nephilium, not me. I have a well-known distaste for beer, so it would end up in my spam.

And now, because I’m feeling magnanimous thanks to a little delicious imbibing before and during dinner, go ahead and have a Saturday Night Open Post! I hope you took your weekly shower first; it sometimes gets a mite crowded in here.

  • Site Updates

As the number of Glibs writing for the community happily continues to grow, I thought it would be nice to give you all a little extra recognition. Because, hey, let’s be honest: that’s really all you get here. 😉

To that end, I’ve done a couple things. First, if you have written even one article for the community, I’ve upgraded you to Contributor. That’s why your dashboard might look a little different when you login to the site.

Along with giving you the ability to draft your own future articles–after we give the go-ahead in reply to your proposed article submission form, this also means that your byline and author bio will show on your posts.

Please be aware that there are currently 2,339 published articles on Glibertarians. I went through them all one by one tonight and tried to make sure I edited them to show your byline and author bio. Going forward this will automatically happen, but I wanted your previous articles to be included.

Because…I’ve also created a Contributing Writers page for the site, which is linked from the About Us page up top, and is also in the footer navigation.

As you can see from this screenshot, the page shows the writer’s avatar, username, bio, and number of posts. The post number button will take a viewer to an index of all the articles by that writer.

I tried to hit all the posts of current Glibs, but if I inadvertently missed your post among the 2,339, please drop me a note through the website contact form and I’ll correct the oversight.

Conversely, if for whatever reason you DO NOT want to be included on the Contributing Writers page, let me know that as well and I will remove your listing.

Since you will now be able to draft your posts, I’m putting together an information page with guidelines on how to turn off the sidebar (etc) and how to let the editors know it’s ready to be reviewed and scheduled. We’ll include a link to that info when we reply to your submission form. No worries, however, if you can’t draft your own posts. We’re here to help!

Again, sincere thanks from all of the Founders for generous sharing of your interests, thoughts, passions and knowledge. The Glibertariat make the community what it is. We truly would not still be here without all of you.

Moving on. A couple weeks ago I added a Downloads page to the site, linked up top and in the footer menu. At the moment this includes Hatcher’s Notebook recommended by Suthenboy, and Defense Distributed’s free plans. I imagine there will be other resources added in the future.

I’m off to catch a couple hours sleep. Have a great day!

  • Coming Attractions and Saturday Night Open Post

Greetings from the Twin Cities! Probably the less said about Tundra’s night the better. After all, I’m much nicer than OMWC.

I will say that if Tundra ever decides to not dis me (this is TWICE now), he will be hard-pressed to measure up to the charm and fine specimens of manhood that are A Leap at the Wheel and Pope Jimbo. They showed us a lovely evening, and I so appreciate them making time to get together with us. It’s good to know who values my friendship and who, well, doesn’t think that much of me.

Tonight we will be having Neapolitan style pizza from Punch Pizza, and I can assure you there will be no pineapple involved.

Anyway, this coming week, Glibs have stepped up yet again with some great articles. We’ll have posts from A Leap at the Wheel, Not Adahn, Web Dom, trshmnstr, robc, Yusef Drives a Kia, The Bearded Hobbit, Suthenboy, and PieInTheSky. And I’ll have a little poll for you in the Wednesday evening spot.

OK, on to the Saturday Night Open Post! Have a great rest of your weekend. (Go Pack!)

  • Coming Attractions & Saturday Night Open Post

Happy long weekend to those of you who have one. I unaccountably have a paper due tomorrow. (Who assigns a research paper to be turned in on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend?!)

However, here on the site, we have another full slate of great articles in the coming week. We are really on a roll. Keep the submissions coming! (No, Creosote Achilles, SUBMISSIONS, not submission. No, Q, SUBMISSIONS, not emission.)

Coming up we have posts from: Not Adahn; westernsloper; trshmnstr; Yusef Drives a Kia; wchipperdove; Florida Man; CPRM; A Leap at the Wheel; Bob Boberson; and Animal. Web Dom’s vegan School is out for recess on Labor Day, but we hope to have a post from SugarFree in his usual spot on Wednesday. And, of course, your regularly scheduled opportunities to ignore the links.

I know, I know, “Stop talking and let us get on with the Saturday Night Open Post!”

  • Coming Attractions and Everyone’s Favorite: Saturday Night Open Post

Well, here we are about to enter the last week of August. Holy cow, how did that happen?

At our house, we’re in the midst of summer-peak-produce delight. Tonight’s dinner includes caprese, Jacques Pepin’s Corn Soufflé, and our favorite Fresh Peach Pie from America’s Test Kitchen.

    before baking

But, back on topic (can one even be off topic on an open post of one’s own creation?). We have a terrific line-up of articles to ease you into September.

This week’s articles include great content from Spudalicious, Florida Man, A Leap at the Wheel, Suthenboy, SugarFree (one lives in hope!), The Bearded Hobbit, Web Dom, Not Adahn, and The Hyperbole. Sincere thanks to all the community members who create content. I love learning so much about the diverse topics you all share. Don’t forget, you can be included among that number.

Oh, we’ll also have the always-highly-anticipated What Are We Reading post this week.

And fair warning: get ready because GlibFit 3.0 hits the second week in September. Thank you, trshmnstr!

Now, non-existent ladies, and shitlords, your last Saturday Night Open Post of August.

  • Coming Attractions and Saturday Night Open Post

Next week we continue our run of great articles contributed by the Glibertariat. In addition to Part 4 of Suthenboy’s reloading series, we’ll have regular features from Not Adahn and Tulip, and–if we’re super good–Web Dominiatrix and SugarFree.

Many quality pieces are on tap from new and used contributors. Wait, that didn’t sound right. New and veteran contributors. New and seasoned. New and not-so-new. Um…new authors and people who have written for us before: WTF; Gadianton; mexican sharpshooter; I.B. McGinty; Waterfall Insurance; SP (oh, that’s me); and Evan from Evansville. Yusef Drives a Kia is on vacation, apparently without his little Army men.

And, of course, you’ll be getting your regularly scheduled Daily Links as well, because we never under promise and sometimes over deliver here at Glib HQ.

OK, that’s all I’ve got. Saturday Night Open Post commencing in 3, 2, 1…!

  • Coming Attractions and Saturday Night Open Post

Next week, along with your regularly scheduled features from Not Adahn, Mexican Sharpshooter, and SugarFree (and links, of course), we have some terrific, wide-ranging content heading your way from: Spudalicious; Fourscore; Florida Man; BakedPenguin; Semi-Spartan Dad; Mojeaux; and Animal.

Suthenboy’s series on reloading continues with a discussion on dies, and Yusef Drives a Kia promises Part 2 of his Omaha Beach project.

Sadly, Web Dominatrix will be MIA this week as she is in the middle of project hell with a client who has…a “gender neutral” midwife practice. Could I make that up?

You’re sure to enjoy all of the articles and I am sure they will prompt you to contribute your own. Right?

Now, stick around and enjoy a Glib Saturday Night Open Post! See you in the funny papers.

This coming week, we have more terrific posts coming your way from your fellow Glibs!

We have a full slate, including regular features from Not Adahn, Tulip, and Web Dominiatrix.

Also sharing their expertise, viewpoints, and hobbies are PieInTheSky, Creosote Achilles, Yusef Drives a Kia, Richard, The Hyperbole, Suthenboy, and The Bearded Hobbit.

Of course, your regularly scheduled links will be served, along with (we hope and expect) a new Hat and Hair from SugarFree (no pressure, dude)!

So you all don’t think the only thing I do is Glib-website-related, here are this afternoon’s food projects, humble though they may be.

  • A Call for Articles

    Sounding the Glibhorn

As we have made clear from the beginning – this site runs off content from all of us. The Shadowy Figures That Run Glibs post much of the content – but we could not get by without the contributions from all of you, the Glibertariat. We’d like to push the amount of content a bit, and thus we are calling on all of you who have thought, “Huh, I should write something up on [subject].” DO IT! Lash your typing orphans, give extra bananas to your infinite number of monkeys with typewriters…whatever it takes to share something which means something to you.

“Easy for you to say! How in the heck do I even get something published here?”

    How To Submit

If you look at the top of our page, you will see a link titled “Leads/Submissions.” When you click it, this will pop up:

Write your elevator pitch and click “Submit to the Glib Editors.”

As for preparing your first file to send in (when we say “thank you, plz send”):

We’re pretty flexible. Microsoft Word documents, Google-docs, PDFs, Notepad docs, or just copy and pasted into an email–we have handled at least one article in each of these formats before.

If you’re savvy enough to embed the pictures you want into your own post, go for it! We try to preserve as much of what is submitted to us as possible, including formatting. If not–hey, that’s fine, too. You can see some of us are pretty big on images, and we’re happy to supply our own (plus alt-text). If you have pictures you want us to use* but you’re not sure how to do all that fancy tech/formatting stuff, we can work with that. Label your pictures clearly, make note in your post exactly where they should go, and be sure to send the images in the same email as you’ve sent your proposed article.

You can apply the same idea about labeling to image captions and alt-text. For example, if you put the following line between two paragraphs in your article: “Image 1” goes here; caption: words that mean things; alt-text: more words that mean things, you can expect we will grab the picture titled “Image 1” that you submitted with your article, we’ll embed it on that line, and we’ll caption and alt-text it as you indicated. Easy, right?

    What’s In It For You?

Mostly, a little fleeting glory and acclaim from your fellow Glibs; the chance to share something about which you are passionate; the possibility of getting something off your mind and out on the page where you can examine it; and the opportunity to forge stronger connections with all the wacky denizens of Glibs.com.

Also! If you contribute two or more articles which we run, SP will upgrade your site user status so that you have your own byline (instead of Guest Contributor) and the user bio from your dashboard will show in the author box at the bottom of your articles. You’ll be GlibFamous!

So, what are you waiting for?

    Ready? Set? Submit!

*Please note that pictures should be free to use; so you’ve taken them yourself or the owner of the image is fine with it being used without their being remunerated for it, or even, perhaps, given credit. Two good sources for images: https://unsplash.com and https://pixabay.com

I believe my post is very comprehensive, actionable, and references trustworthy sources.

The interesting thing, to me, is that these and the dozens of others we receive every day are being sent by actual humans who are presumably being paid a fraction of a cent to fill out an online form, solve the CAPTCHAs, and submit.
