  • Tuesday Morning Links of …Something.

    Links.

Links, because you, the Glibertariat, deserve them. No theme to my post, however, because I got absolutely nothing today. I can at least throw a little entertainment toward all of you before links…

    SPORTS

Allegedly some hockey series finished, and another one didn’t. I still find the whole thing make-believe….but, whatever. Basketball is supposedly grinding on, but I don’t believe that either. I do know baseball continues to occur, despite my strenuous objections – they need to skip this year and get to the next one, plz.

    BIRTHDAYS

Wonderful Swiss guy Jean-Henri Dunant (1828 – Red Cross founder, YMCA co-founder) Harry Truman, meh (1884) ALL HAIL Friedrich Hayek! (1899) Nature film guy David Attenborough (1926) Don Rickles (1926, you hockey puck!) Peter Benchley (1940 – Jaws author. Hi OMWC!) Music peoples…Toni Tennille (1940) Gary Glitter (ouch, 1944) Alex Van Halen (1953) Enrique Iglesias (wait, not Julio?! 1975)

    LINKS

    • OK, this one is soooo schadenfreudelicious, I know it was batted around yesterday…but this a$$hat turning out to be what you just knew he was behind closed doors…is bringing a smile to my face. Politicians in my benighted state of Illinois are merely criminal, and simply go to prison. So what is it with these NY pols? “Client Number 9”, “Brown Slave Master”…. HA!
    • Good Luck, Armenians. Note buried in the story…”under economic blockade from Turkey”. Guess the Turks are mad they didn’t get to finish the job in 1918?
    • When can a sneeze cost you IQ points? OK, not really, but I had to try to come up with some sort of joke for this story. I expect all of you to come up with similarly bad ones, in the comments. (“So that is why Krugnuts is always waving around a hanky!”)
    • GASP! People were actually granted permission to have basements?!?!?! OUTRAGEOUS! The intrepid authors are on the case!!!

The study concluded that the sharp rise in basement construction over the past decade is ’emblematic of the profound plutocratisation of London’.

The authors, led by professor of cities Roger Burrows, added: ‘The global excesses of wealth, focused upon such a small fragment of the global population, now find spatial expression in many of the neighbourhoods of central London.

‘At a time when so many households face a crisis in their housing circumstances, the new subterranean geography of London is deeply symbolic of the realities of the intensification of global inequalities and their spatial expression.’

All I can say is, F$%& off, Professor Slavers.

  • Return of the Swiss – Afternoon Links

    Crack Alpenhorn squad….attack!

Well, back into the swing of Glib things… I am doing the Links while Brett fixes a fanboat motor, tears his shirt off and jumps up and down on a cop car or somesuch. Now, how do I do these things again?  Let me see…

    • Ah, right…first off find something interesting and sort of libertarian. Then hope someone reads said link (a free market defense of Amazon) and comments on it. HAHAHAHAHA…OK, maybe I have been off too long. Anyhoo, it is worth a read.
    • Hmmmm. Maybe something that could lead to some Hat and Hair material (both written and animated)? Personally speaking, I wonder if China finally sees that there is no profit, anymore, in propping up N. Korea…especially since the PRC would really like a reduced US presence in the area. Strange that it took the Hat and the Hair to maybe get this rolling to at least some sort of reduction of forces. Maybe the Koreas would agree to what used to be called “Finlandization” – they get largely left alone by China, but serve as a useful small neighbor/market?
    • Huh. French revolts/revolutions just ain’t what they used to be.  Somehow I don’t see some future Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boubil and Jean-Marc Natel writing this one up as a musical. Or…how about Le Risible? We could get every wokester on Broadway to sign up as cast! Maybe I have found our libertarian version of The Producers?!
    • The best revenge is living well. Or, making a #$%@ton of money despite being rejected by the British version of “Shark Tank”…dang, and after reading this, I want a bottle of “Sink the Bismarck!” … 41% abv beer, yikes. OK, mexican sharpshooter – over to you for review! [Good luck finding any…]

I think that did it. So on to the commentings and snarkings.

    Hoi Zäme!
  • Swiss 4 Day Pass Morning Links

I got a 4 day pass! And I’m going to go… to a 4 day board gaming CON with a bunch of other nerds. Hey, at least we have many gallons of primo beer.  What can I say, I am a 51 year old married with children, white collar worker, and living in the suburbs. I can barely remember being a 19 year old PFC on pay day.

So instead of tearing the town up…you get links.

Sports – some hockey series supposedly finished (giving false hope to certain East Coast fans). Basketball rolls on, and baseball trudges toward the warmer times.

Birthdays – William I, Prince of Orange (take that, Spaniards! 1533) Vincent de Paul (dude, your basketball program is a shambles! 1581) Robert Bailey Thomas (Farmer’s Almanac anyone? 1766) François Fournier (legendary Swiss post stamp forger. 1824) Philippe Pétain (Vichy!!! 1856) Benjamin Lee Whorf (shout out to HM. 1897) Justin Wilson (You go and add you a little un-yun. 1914) Richard M. Daley (1942) The Streisand Effect (1942) Omar Vizquel (1967) Kelly Clarkson (1982)

    Links

    • Hey, I know certain Tex-Mex fans that would have recommended the death penalty instead of what he got. I wonder if he will work in the kitchen in prison?
    • Say, speaking of Kelly Clarkson… the tabloids just loves them this “sex cult” story.
    • More wonders of socialist medicine. Shouldn’t we all just love and respect a system that has results like Alder Hey say it’s in Alfie’s ‘best interests’ to die and judges have also agreed.
    • Immigration crisis…in South America. Irony? Definitely tragedy.
    Must. Reach. Front. Gate.
  • Tuesday Morning Return to Normalcy Links

What this country needs is a good swift kick in the @#$

I have noticed that word caused considerable grammar Nazis and Aspies to change it to “normality”. I have looked for “normality” in my dictionary and I do not find it there. “Normalcy”, however, I did find, and it is a good word.

We are returning to normal here at Glibs. Well, at least for this morning. No cryptids running about, all the tech is working, and I will be off morning link duty starting tomorrow…as I submerge myself in the work my beloved Swiss overseers have allowed me to do. *wipes chin*

So…in the words of the great American Philosopher, Tone Lōc, Let’s Do It.

Birthdays – J.P. Morgan (1837 – tip your top hats, please) William Holden (1918) Olivia Hussey (1951) Maynard Keenan (1964) Liz Phair (1967) Jennifer Garner (1972) Victoria Beckham-Spice (1974)

Sports – All my teams are out of the playoffs or have started their season and suck, hard….so there is nothing to say other than the NBA and NHL (allegedly) are playing off. Euro soccer angers some, delights others. MLB is lying under a curtain of snow and ice.

    Links

    • Whatever Cuba was doing to US diplomats, they appear to be doing to Canada now. PM Zoolander hardest hit? I cannot imagine what the Cubans are thinking, especially since Canada has been fairly stalwart in forging a path that is a bit more friendly than that of the US. Go figure.
    • Lay your bets as to allegations of poison gas use! Where? Here. Time to go long on missile futures.
    • Is there a doctor in the house? Well, one woman thinks at least one particular one is a good fellah. Here, she could run for Congress in certain districts.
    • You no steal phone! POW! Somebody buy that man a cigar.
    • So much for information being available. Sigh.
Now go do that voodoo that you do so well!

  • Thursday Morning Links

    “Order in…Morning Links.”

“You want cream and sugar with that, hun?”

I’ll get yer links in while the place is still kind of empty. Once the morning rush hits, you’d be lucky to get as much as half a quote of a day old headline, without waiting for 30 minutes at least. So, lets start.

Sports – Baseball… there was some macho strutting and posturing, with remarkably little actual damage for so much “fighting”.  Soccer stuff in Europe made people say “@#$%”. Basketball is now set for its playoffs. THERE WAS NO HOCKEY, I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU HEARD. HOCKEY STARTS AGAIN THIS FALL.

Birthdays – Henry Clay (1777), Beverly Cleary (1916…still alive!), Tiny Tim (1932 – not alive), Herbie Hancock (1940), Ed O’Neill (1946), Tom Clancy (1947), David Letterman (1947), Scott Turow (1949), Shannen Doherty (1971), Brooklyn Decker (1987)…

    Happy Birthday to me…

    Links;

    • Um, … OK. Didn’t know the Canadian Air Force could, you know, reach Syria. I understand they have something sort of over there…But, way to boldly stand up against Trumputin and the rush to war… I guess.
    • I know all of you will be rocked to the core when you read this. I mean, the sacred guardians of the public…are corrupt shitbirds?! Wow, who woulda thunk it?!
    • Huh. I don’t think STEVE SMITH is going to be impressed. You know how he hates amateurs…and politicians. I wonder if Western feminists will decry what appears to be a real “rape culture”? Oh, who am I kidding.
    • I guess we can start getting an idea of what side the cops are on in the UK. Hint, it ain’t the victim’s side.

Hope those links are savory and satisfying.

Since I mentioned Herbie Hancock…have a predictable music link.

  • Wednesday Morning Hump Day Links

Happy Hump Day…No, not that kind of hump, you degenerates! Middle of the week…you know, “over the hump”… No?  Fine, we’ll make it about camels then. As suggested, the camel we gave an ID card to at Bagram AF will now be the Official Wednesday Camel of Glibs.

Everyday is Hump Day with me!

Sport – Baseball continues. If your team is not off to a great start, just tell yourself “150 games to go, relax.” If it is doing well, “YEAH!! THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!!” Something else is starting, but I don’t want to talk about it…

    No TV on tonight…

Birthdays – Oleg Cassini (1913 – says something about fashion designer…not a space telescope?!), Ethel Kennedy (1928 – she wasn’t the one that got pithed, right?), Jeremy Clarkson (1960), Mark Teixeira(1980), Dakota Richards (1994). Slim pickings today.

    Links

    • Progsplain this? How many times does something like this have to happen, eh? But, once again, it will be someone or something else’s fault.
    • Well, this all sounds calm and not at all alarming. Nothing like waking up to “hey, lets have a lovely war, shall we?”… Now where did I put that Reserve paperwork again?
    • There are no ill effects from prohibition or punitive taxation. Pay no attention to any events that say otherwise.
    • OK, childish, but this made me snortlaugh all the same.

Well, there you go. Off to commenting with ya!

  • Tuesday Morning Substitute Links

    “It is MISTER Servator!”

I got the call to do links this morning. I think sloopy got trapped in a warehouse full of merchandise he is going to auction…

“Top men…TOP. MEN… said it should go back in here somewhere.”

So…Sport – One team had enough fortitude to take the field in Chicago yesterday (fine, they lost…what do you want, they are rebuilding!). Otherwise, the standings seem a mess. But it is early (just keep telling yourself that…Keep hope alive. Endeavor to persevere.). In Premiership rugby – the playoffs should be fantastic, if what I saw this past weekend is a preview. The Sale Sharks vs Wasps was a sight to behold. The very end featured determined offense, stout defense and terrible injury.

Birthdays – Hugo Grotius (1583), Admiral Matthew Perry (1794), William Booth (Go Salvation Army! 1829), Joseph Pulitzer (1847), Chuck Connors (1921), Max von Sydow (1929), Omar Sharif (1932), John Madden (1936), Steven Segal (1952), Brian Setzer (1959), Mandy Moore (1984), Daisy Ridley (1992).

    “Yes…Happy Birthday to me.”

    Links

    • A slight step back from Trade Warz rhetoric? God I hope so. My ferverent hope is that Trump will blast out tweets saying “See – victory!!!” and then stop all but maybe a symbolic act or two.
    • Our own RC Dean had pretty good analysis of TEH GREAT TRUMP LAWYER RAID yesterday, so did Popehat (Ken). UPDATE: If Popehat is still crashing…try here. HIHN WARNING!!!!
    • Cosplayers? Furries? Both? You look, you decide.
    • Bot Lives Matter! Oops.

Now then, off to the comments!

  • Friday Generic Links

“One can of links, please. Oh, and a box of off topic comments.”

Links.  Generic Links. You get them, on special today, because it is Friday…and frankly, the “use by” date is getting close.

    Sports

BaseballBaseball happened – I really don’t want to talk about it (#@$% White Sox bullpen). Golf – Masters underway, Spieth leading. NHL – Yeah, playoffs. Soon…for most of you.

    Birthdays

Raphael Sanzio (1483), Anthony Fokker (1890), Lowell Thomas (1892), James Watson (1928), Billy Dee Williams (1937), Merle Haggard (1937), Zamfir (1941 – shout out to Pie), Udo Dirkshneider (1952), Janet Lynn (1953), Keith Hunter Jesperson (1955 – “Canadian-born serial killer”), Oliver Miller (1970),

    Links

    • This guy is lucky he didn’t end up full of bullets, and instead gets a long prison stretch.
    • If you read why this camel may have escaped, I can believe it. I used to get the stink eye from a camel our local Kuchi representative would bring to our base in NE Afghanistan. One day I gave it a Strawberry Nutri-Grain bar, and I had a friend for life. Thing was like an eager puppy when it saw me walking up.
    • Test flight. I hope every swingin’ one of these new rockets, spacecraft, hypersonic planes, whatnot… work, and work well. We might at least get some private sector competition in space…if we cannot get enough of it down here on terra firma.
    • Somehow I missed this story. Bombing…Sam’s Club? I mean, did they run out of the 5 gallon jars of dill pickle slices or something? At least nobody got hurt.

OK, that’s all folks. On to commenting.

  • Wednesday Morning Conspiracy Links

    I KNEW it!

So…”sloopy” allegedly “commented” on a post last night. How very convenient that it happened to be a post by Banjos!!!!! I tell you, I am getting close…and this is BIG. Chemtrails, lizard people (sure, Mr. Lizard is out in the open, telling us we will be working in their slave labor hot rock factories and nutria ranches…but it goes deeper than that!!!) the CIA, EM fields… it is all coming together. Sure, it sounds crazy – but that is what THEY want you to think!

    SO, I will let you have some information, so I can get back to work on the investigation;

Birthdays;  Tris Speaker (1888), Muddy Waters (1913), Anthony Perkins (1932), Craig T. Nelson (1944) Robert Downey Jr. (1965), David Blaine (1973), Heath Ledger (1979) and Jamie Lynn Spears (1991)

Sports; Baseball occurred. I still don’t want to talk about hockey. NBA winding down the regular season. Golf a comin’ up this here weekend.

    Links;

    • Really? You did what, Norwegian non-profit? BTW – why in Hell is the US taxpayer being wrung out to pay a Norwegian group to dole out $ to others?
    • I sure wish we had more choo-choos like Europe! What could go wrong? *California nods enthusiastically*
    • Rue Britannia. Protect yourself in your home, get charged. Hard to believe what the UK has become.
    • Hey?! You know how much day care costs? Alternatively, Most libertarian parents evah?
