My extended building project is a series of 2’x2’ dioramas, each with its own theme, add some bridges to join the sections, then let my granddaughters play on them. At the same time, I’m building a nice resume for my infant scenery business, more on that later. The scale is 28mm/ Heroic scale, but this is a bit different, the entire scenario is little people that mine gold and are protected by fairies. So far so good. I was asked to build a castle at the same time, so I did, but the further I went, the more the castle interfered with my view, so I dropped it from the scene. I’ll use it later.
Here’s where I started. This is just drywall mud in a multilayered foil form, easy and cheap.
Then I used the pieces to clad some foam to get this shape. A good start.
Here is after a few washes, and some basic water layout. Not done yet!
This is after a few water layouts and accents.
I have an entire castle made, but I can’t see inside! I finally said, “Nope,” and dropped it for some palisade work I had laying around, and it looks like this.
Much better view, and lots more things to add for coolness, like torches.
A farm, with Grandma.
GOLD! With miners.
Next up are the details, more trimming, drybrushing etc. Enough for another episode, til then…
Left to Right: Granddaughter #1, Granddaughter #2, Guardian Faeries, 3,4,5.
And of course, the Gallery, with lots of great stuff this time.
I’ll be starting up a business around my scenery work soon, so if you have ideas, or potential clients, lemme know. /Shameless Promotion
Not only is it adorable, if you swap fairies for some mid-90s Games Workshop Orcs and Bretonians, you can have a credible Warcraft 3 map there!
UCS mentioned something like that, I’m thinking……
Thanks!
Sounds like a nice niche of paying customers.
Or a Warmachine/Hordes skirmish.
I’m sensing a theme in today’s articles.
Indeed!
Speaking of articles of building things, I submitted another – albeit not a kitbash one.
I was driving home and missed UCS til it was deadthread, Skulls! +6
Skull-hubcaps too. Skullcaps even.
Why not use Testors Glue for the Styrene? the needle applicator is cool
Because I have none.
I have plastic glue and cyanoacrylate.
Have none? I know you have Amazon, and you’ll spend the cash, try it, 15 seconds and you’re done.
/Pressure
Nope.
I stoped buying their products after the little tubes that would never stop expressing adhesive before they’d emptied themselves.
This is what I mean, much better than the old style,
https://www.ebay.com/p/Testors-Model-Master-8872-Liquid-Glue-Applicator-1-Oz/1100675944?iid=292550260274&chn=ps
Why would I buy that when I have the same stuff from another company? That’s just plastic glue.
It’s liquid, that’s why, similar to thin CA without the nastiness.
I was only providing a good alternative for Your Hatred of CA
I thought those were called yarmulkes.
No, those are (((skullcaps)))
Yep, all was fortold……
I used to build very detailed, electrified Victorian dollhouses, but I haven’t made a diorama since elementary school. Your granddaughters will have a blast!
Those tend to last longer than the more authentic gas-lit ones.
Silicone Torches…….
I grew up in an electrified Victorian, built in 1875. There was a charred spot left in the attic from a gaslight fire sometime around 1910.
Congratulations on your new business venture.
ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ ELECTED TO CONGRESS!!!
Nice
That Venezuela punchline…
Let’s pray it stays a punchline.
I have a crush on Seamus. I’m not ashamed-us.
It would seam so…
Again, you have way more patience than I Yufus. I am sure your grandkids will love it. Looks like you may be moving to a corrupt state though. WhatsherfaceSinema now, two days after the election is leading McSally for the senate seat. At least in CA the Dems don’t have to cheat to win elections.
Well, when there’s no Republicans on the ballot, it makes it easy not to cheat to allow a Dem to win.
HEY YUFUS!
Sup Tres!
TY WSloper, I saw her losing when I started back ti Cali, get home, and Sinemascope is up 2k?
Shenanigans,
I successfully replaced a honeywell gas-valve/thermostat with no noticeable water or gas leaks. Hot water!
I saw that, I knew you could tackle such a complex job,
This is super cute, Tulpa.
Thanks Tulpa
OT baseball in Japan
Anyone over there watching the friendlies with the US MLB allstars?
It’s on MLB network stateside.
‘Splain please, I’m old and dumb
(US) Major League Baseball allstars @ Japan
In international sports, exhibition games are often called friendlies.
First game yesterday was at Tokyo against the Giants.
The rest of the games will be against Japan’s allstars.
Wow..FL update
They are still finding ballots.
Those Dead folks aren’t going to vote themselves
Either the election officials are corrupt and must be removed, along with their underlings.
Or the election officials are incompetant and must be removed, along with their underlings.
Corrupt or incompetent, I don’t care. Either way they should face legal consequences. Severely.
As I said in the other thread, Gillum’s gonna end up winning, too!
Imagine that!
I for one think it’s great that we’re finally overcoming voter suppression.
What I love is that the number of votes cast keeps going up daily. How. In. the. fuck. do they not know how many ballots are cast on election day the day of the election like every other precinct/district/state in the country? Boooooolshit! Combine that with the video Chipwooder posted in the links and ………..
There are several laws I’ve contemplated pushing for:
1) All Congressional/Senate pensions are just the median income of their district/state
2) Any ballots not submitted at a specified time are null and void.
#2 is technically true in FL already. All ballots not certified by 5pm today should be null and void.
Apparently they have a similar law as your number 2 in FL and it is being ignored. Maybe not null and void, but law is a certain time and Broward and Palm Beach just said fuck it. Criminals don’t care about law. It is rather genius really. What are they going to do? Move in and take over the counting? There would be riots. It would be voter suppression from the evil racists. There is no way to fight what they are doing without going through each ballot and checking against voter rolls and then interviewing the voter which would take 6 months.
See, I would just take anyone who violated rule 2, and strip them of all power and prevent them from ever holding a public office again. But I look for solutions to problems that would work.
You’re too kind.
Slow slicing and skull racks are the start of my penalties for treason.
the Boats, and sell tickets…….
However grotesque, it never appealed to me as a proper method.
See, you think physical torture, I think psychological. Think of these people, who have sold their integrity to try to help gain their party power forever forbidden from having power themselves.
Dead is the only guarantee that they are stripped of power.
Multiple year prison sentence. We don’t need to go there UCS.
Send in the national guard to seize and guard the ballot boxes.
I’m not up on election law at all, so take this for what it’s worth. I kinda think that at this point it would be appropriate to name everyone whose custody these mysteriously discovered ballots were in along with their party affiliation.
I really like the little details you put in these models.
I put this together last night.

New work bench for a bench grinder and drill press. It’s still early in the process. I’ll be painting and staining the maple top, putting a shelf and pegboard on the back, and wiring a light and powerstrip.
I can’t believe how fast this went together. 2×4 basics makes a kit with legs and pilot holes. You just make 90 deg cuts and screw it all together. Took 1.5-2 hrs.
You have stud in the field I hope? or the Ply will go floppy doppy on you,

Hey Glibs.
As an early recruit and first adopter of this site I ask for any forgivness for this early OT interruption.
I need advice from my fellow gilbs and I know there are some here that have the info I need.
My younger wife ignored my offer of college 10 years ago.
Now that she has gained some wisdom with a decade she wants to learn something of value to trade for an income.
I have suggested that she learn coding with an interest toward security. I’m thinking that at 32 she is young enough to learn and as a US Citizen with a US birth certificate that internet security might prove to be useful.
Can any of you offer advice to us as to a path forward ?
Can she begin self learning over the internet and later take certain classes or get certain certificates that would help her get a job ?
Does being a US citizen help with Fed Gov security jobs in the future ?
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
If she’s looking IT, certificates are much more important then any school papers. A lot will depend on what specifics she wants to go into, and if you’re looking for a quick path, or a long term path. I mean, I’m a college drop out who’s working on phone systems now a days.
For security, I’ve got no idea, I’ve avoided the military as well as any probing that deeply into my past.
If I may jump in here and hog the advice… What’s a “quick path” into some kind of IT career?
Honestly, I’d be very satisfied with some kind of dull, menial job. I’m not dreaming of being the next Sergei Brin or anything. My last position at my company was extremely repetitive, but I loved it (now they moved that function to another state, and I don’t really like the position that I moved into).
I’m just looking for some 40-hour per week gig that is reasonably safe from automation, not a career that you have to throw your whole life into.
Depends greatly on what you envision doing in IT – it’s a very broad area.
First, you have to have some basic IT skills (know Windows, basic troubleshooting, MS Office). Then, get a help desk job at a company, find something that either no one else wants to do, or interests you, and jump on it. From there, specialize into whatever that option is and grab training and certifications from your current employer. After 2-3 years of this, if your salary isn’t to your liking, start looking at other positions, and learn to tweak your resume.
I’ve mentioned to several people at my new job that technically, I took a demotion moving to my new position. All of them have asked why. My answer has been, “A 20% raise, and less responsibility.”
I never got the stupid certificates. Either my 20 years of experience will show, or I’ll be consulting or something.
I took a few certification classes, but never the tests. After seeing the bullshit material tested for, I decided that certifications were bunk.
They’re only useful for your next job. I understand that might not be a concern for you.
Eh. If you work for a M$ partner, M$ requires a certain number of certs per level. I was okay with getting certified as part of an expected requirement for the company to keep its partner level. And it was specified up front that one would be expected to gain and keep current certifications if one took the job.
I’m not sure what a “partner” means here. I mean, sure we used MS software but so does everyone else.
Sweet sweet chill job,
Being a boss can suck
Now see, that’s a winning proposition.
Most people in my life seem to just parrot the advice to get the most advanced degree possible and then get the most advanced job possible. I keep telling them that the things I really want to do in life (writing) do not really translate well into a job, and I dislike jobs in general, so my best bet is to find something that is easy and uninvolved and do the writing in my spare time. But they just keep repeating “go to college”.
I hate my life when my automatic thought every morning is “what kind of shitstorm am I walking into today?” I’m trying to get away from that, but people just keep telling me to go to college and find a job with even more responsibility and more stress. It’s like they don’t listen to me when I talk or something.
I’ve been watching a lot of sitcoms that I grew up on from the 90s, and the college propaganda looms bigly.
Not surprising that there’s some inertia to that end, but I can’t roll my eyes hard enough in response when I hear it in-person nowadays. I think it’s sad that people might actually still be convinced by it. (And that’s how you get a critical mass of a “loan forgiveness” mentality..)
Yeah, I work a basic job in a restaurant. At least it’s a lot of people enjoying themselves, eating and drinking and socializing—les raisons d’etre. You know: less ennui & wanting to kill themselves. It’s, well, relatively pleasant.
It never ends. I had people who, like me, were 15 or 20 years into a good IT career advising me to get an MBA.
WTF?? I have zero interest in that shit. IF I ever went college again – a big if – it would be purely for my own interest and it would probably be CompSci.
Luther: At least you have a Bachelors (if I read previous threads correctly). It’s much more entertaining when they tell a drop-out like me to go to college.
Sorry, I’ve been working in IT for 20 years, what’s college going to teach me?
I do, but it’s not going on my resume any more. It was 30 years ago.
From what I hear it will teach you how you’re an evil oppressor who needs to step aside in favor of that trans-black, disabled pansexual woman who totally delivers more value despite not knowing thing one about your job.
Amazingly enough, being able to write well does help in the IT world. You would not believe the relief I hear from people when they call (or e-mail) support, and have me talk to them. I’m a college drop out (1 year of an English major woo!). In IT, find a specialization, and if it’s one that’s popular, you can run that for ever. There are several UCCE implementors (that I’m sure are making more then me) that write some of the sloppiest scripts I’ve ever seen in my life. I get paid because I can read through their garbage, and tell other people what (and where) to change things to make the client happy.
As a correlary, there’s also great value in being able to translate geek jargon to normal people speak. I think a great deal of my work capital comes from being known as the guy who can explain shit in a way that’s comprehensible. The two others come from being the guy who fixes shit and the guy who remembers how the pieces fit together.
Yes, my work involves dealing with a lot of shit.
UCS: A lot of my current role is explaining to people why the company I work for isn’t responsible for their phones being down. It’s amazing to me how many people are thankful when I give them the correct support number and tell them to provide my name and direct dial number if there’s any pushback.
/side note: I’ve never gotten a call from that other support desk in over 8 months.
Somewhat related, is there a cultural thing about Indians/Pakistanis about discussing bonuses and salaries openly? I had one of my co-workers explicitly ask about if I got a bonus and the amount.
I plan on leveraging 20 years of marinating in the Insurance industry. I may be a developer at heart but an eye for business goes a long way.
I never noticed that.
Luther: It just came up this week when I had a co-worker asking if I received a quarterly bonus, and how much I got. I can understand asking if I got the bonus as well, but they were asking for the specific amount I received, and told me what they got. It was… disconcerting to me.
My salary is a matter of public record, so I don’t have any control over who knows how much I make. I don’t get bonuses.
Insurance? P&C, Life, Specialty?
P&C
Serious question — can you learn to think about things in sets? For my money, SQL is dead easy to learn if you know (or are willing to learn) anything about sets and set theory. The whole T-sql (M$) versus PL-sql (Oracle) is easy to map via stackoverflow or really google after that. It pays well and you essentially become a dark wizard in the eyes of everyone you work for when you write some seemingly complex query in a couple of hours. There’s definitely some learning curve to becoming a DBA outside of that, but the great thing about learning the SQL language is you can start as a reports writer. I would venture to guess that 60% of companies with more than 100 employees would love to hire a reports writer who can write even basic SQL.
I can second this. Learning SQL opens a lot of doors, and it’s not that hard if you can understand that databases you’re looking at. Not to mention I don’t think there’s an IT position that won’t need to know at least basic SQL at some point.
Is that the language that you can use in MS Access for the queries? I’ve done a little bit of that before at a previous job; it seemed easy enough.
Yes.
Try postgresql instead, it’s free.
“I know, I’ll use a spreadsheet!” are words that cause me to despair. They are no substitute for relational databases.
Our new CTO has brought his flunkies in and suddenly we’re dumping things out of our asset management system into spreadsheets, which is deeply retarded.
If the existing system doesn’t meet your needs, fix it – dumping the data into instantly-out-of-date spreadsheets is the dumbest thing imaginable.
SQL opens a lot of doors; I switched from using MS Excel for business reports to using SQL. (Note the SQL for reports is even easier than using SQL to transform data). However, the interface can be intimidating, which limits the number of people willing to try it.
Or what Brett (and everyone else) here said.
And as offensive as it may sound, the SQL for Dummies book is a decent introduction to the concepts that you’ll need. No, it won’t get you a high paying job, but it will help you understand what the basics are.
That’s basically what I did the last few years. That shit gets really ugly really fast.
Neph – for reporting all you need is an Internet connection. Select queries are cake.
Luther – that’s one of the reasons I stuck with reporting. Well, that and my extensive data analysis in Excel sometimes really helps. Especially when your mgmt group really likes pretty graphics.
We had a guy in my team (20 years senior to me) who was “the Excel expert”. I can write thousands of lines of SQL procs to transform data but Excel fucking baffles me sometimes.
(He also got fired on the same day as me.)
BakedPenguin: Select queries can be cake, but some of the data sets can be massive ugly horrible things. Understanding the business needs behind the queries and reports can make you golden.
Neph: sorry – I meant writing them. Once you’re used to your particular flavor of SQL, writing them is a breeze. Using them on a database with 10MM records, admittedly not so much.
That said, in a screw-off job I got after my insurance job, the boss wanted me to do some (typing) data entry. 2,000 records, and she gave me 2 weeks. She was a little taken aback when I came in 15 minutes later and could prove to her the job had been done. That was fun.
And obviously, that was an INSERT query, not a SELECT.
I assume you were given the data in some sort of text format.
Becoming an expert at editing text is something I also can’t recommend enough to beginners. I see my coworkers plod through shit that could be made so much easier and just SMDH.
BP: No offense taken at all. There’s a large portion of my current job (and my past one) that involves explaining what the data managers want to report on really means.
Luther – I came at it from the other way around. I knew Excel, but databases could mess me up.
It took a while (for me) to recognize every line in a database is ONE record. Almost all data in Excel spreadsheets are agglomerations. Understanding how this will interfere with data manipulation is really important if you’re going to work with both.
(One exception: Excel Pivot Tables are set up like dbs)
Oh, God yes.
Agreed. Anyone who is thinking about doing reporting needs to know the metrics of 1) business in general and 2) the business they’re in.
“Excel fucking baffles me sometimes”
Yeah. My new gig is all Excel all the time. Everyday I learn something new. And I’m still a fucking retard. My wife is a goddamn Excel whiz, but she won’t teach me shit. She’s always like , “You don’t have the macros my worksheets have.” But then, never offers to give me the fucking golden workpapers that make accounting so easy and fun.
I’ve got to get better at Excel. But as it stands, I’m a million miles away https://youtu.be/aIxgBMNhsKU
Ha, I knew it was going to be that.
Yeah, Rhywun I’ve been listening to Plimsouls, The Nerves, The Records, and some other sweet jangly power pop recently. Gonna post a batch of new tunes to my epic Spotify playlist Jangle Noise this weekend. Jingle jangle guitars and noise laden insanity from rock n roll history; psych, surf, punk, power pop (both long hair and skinny tie), lo-fi, no-fi, post punk, alt-rock, C86, dream pop, shoegaze, and more! Over 10 hours of songs with more hooks than your Grandpa’s tackle box. You’ve almost convinced me, and I wasn’t even asking a question.
I was asking a question that may have gotten side tracked.
What should be her first steps to learn and then is SQL something she should zero in on.
Thanks for any specific help.
Yes, she should learn SQL (which is pretty simple as scripting languages go), if she has no basic computer knowledge, then grab a book on supporting Windows 10 and learn it.
There are some good, very basic intro classes on coursera.com for SQL. It would be a super cheap way for her to see if she likes it. All “work at your own pace” etc.
Akira:
If you’re on Windows, learn some PowerShell.
Unix/Linux/Mac, learn bash.
Either of those are extremely useful in all kinds of IT positions, whether developing software or doing hardware or desktop support.
“Pound Bang Slash Bin Slash Bash – wow this script starts out pretty violently.”
All my posts are open for topics, it’s late after all, need those Linkies!
Sounds like something a Tulpa would say. 🙂
You have a Face for Radio,

And a voice for newspaper. 🙂
You have a Great voice for Radio, or maybe Audio books, think about it,

Say what you want, a Chaturbate career is technically “IT”.
Hello!
You have a very broad idea of what Information is… don’t you?
Everything is information. This means everyone works in IT. This means we have solved the IT employment gap!
*the information contained in this post may be entirely bullshit. But then what isn’t these days?
Umm, link?
It’s what you control when you control the mail.
And puts many a young lady through college. Which makes them smart.

For the Wargamers, this is kinda cool,

Great project and post, Yusef. I wish I had the patience and attention to detail to have a prayer of doing something like this for my kids or eventual grandkids.
It’s a lot of fun, one thing I insisted on when buying the place was a dedicated, Air conditioned workshop, and we found a good pad to buy.
And it comes with it’s own freestanding Gun Safe! yippee!
Panthers are thoroughly getting their asses kicked.
Hey, you will never guess what some concerned citizen found just lying around in a Broward County school!
JFC, we are fucked…..
Ya, that is jail time for them if they actually prosecuted this shit. Voter fraud is not uncommon, prosecuting it is.
What in the name of Sam Hill is wrong with that county?
lol, really. Do they just relish the attention?
Being that is South Florida, I’d wager a yes.
that it is*
This followed me home today.

Is it worth the $2700?
isn’t She adorable……..
I’ve had my eye on this for a while. 2lbs lighter than my 12ga makes a difference over 3-4 hours of hunting.
Looking at the MSRP on that shotgun, I think I’ll add you to my top mugging targets list. When you’re not carrying the shotgun, of course.
20ga on sale at Sportsman’s Warehouse for $2k. This will easily last the rest of my life and then some.
It does look like fun.
20ga? Okay good. My initial thought was a 6lb 12ga and my shoulder started swelling up.
Same. My first thought was “I don’t WANT the lightest 12ga on the market.”
That’s beautiful. If you ever find you can’t give ‘r a good home, there’s always room at my house.
I have two from way back. The O/U has an english stock. The other is S/S without the english stock. I dont see any S/S citori’s for sale anywhere at any price.
I love those guns.
Yes UnCivil, they are worth it.
Very nice.
?
I have a smoked then pulled picnic roast on warm in its juices in the crock pot waiting to become pulled pork tacos. My house smells like what i assume heaven smells like but with less perfume and stripper glitter.
Some Great Value Buttermilk Biscuits would work well with that 🙂
Half fried corn tortillas folded appropriately.
Cheaper than great value biscuits.
I like the wet paper towel/ microwave trick, soft and warm…….

Potential column: The Frugal Glibertarian.
I could submit my old college recipe (not that I haven’t used it since): ramen noodles with frozen veggies and butter.
I lived on a jar of dry roasted peanuts for one or two really frugal weeks. Biggest bang for the buck I could think of.
All you can eat buffet with a foil lined duffle bag. Not proud of my self for that one, but it was a lean couple of weeks. Thanks KFC.
Phrasing?
Super idea!
Biscuits should be made with buttermilk and lard!
/sits back with his Imperial stout
On my trip, I brought Some Old Rasputin Stout, Some Lagunitas Brown Sugga Ale at 9%
and then some Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA, a good outing
All of which are solid beers. I choose not to buy Lagunitas, because the old owner was a dick, but I will not stop anyone else from enjoying their tasty beers.
AZ has Smiths supermarket, where you can build a 6 pack, the Daughter says there is much Variety, so i got that going for me……
Yum. Throw some candied japs on it!
That’s the plan!
I’m making those candied jalapeños tomorrow. Thanks for that recipe.
+1 White Pearl perfume
No thicc guardian fairies, for shame. Jests aside, I think this is pretty awesome and I hope your grandkids enjoy it!
Thanks Raphael, I’m planning out the next Adventure, after the Little Mines they head into the Creepy Swamp, I haven’t made Swamps yet, should be cool.
Maybe they can meet up with a Demon later, who happens to be Hot……
Yusef, if you’re interested in gaming with your young ones, you may want to look at Smallworld which is a mini wargame with lots of “cute” races to use.
Thanks, looks fun,
There’s digital versions for iOS, Android, and Steam if you want a cheaper version.
Awesome, I look forward to the next adventure as well. Good luck on your new business venture too!
Totally not potentially looking forward to thicc demons as well
Wait, so Gillespie is Raphael and Luther Baldwin is Rhywun? This place is getting as complicated as a soap opera, and that’s even without the occasional times Espith and LH post under the wrong handles.
Raphael lost a bet.
Not sure if Rhywun’s stint as Luther is going to stick or not.
I don’t want to speak for Luther, but i’m pretty sure it’s permanent-ish. I believe he tired of Rhywun and chose to make the switch when the opportunity arose. As far as why that exact name…not sure…I missed that part.
I have altered the name. Pray I don’t alter it any further.
What was the bet?
Oh, wow…. That revelation, after all this voting irregularity horseshit…
I picked the wrong week to stop huffing.
Don’t forget about ‘Splosives and her home and away handles.
Hawt!
LOL
If she went under the knife then, in my book, she’s serious. I have nothing but sympathy for someone who feels trapped in the wrong body.
I too have sympathy for them; I wish he had gotten the psychological help he really needed before some opportunistic doctor cut up his body.
It wasn’t the doctor who was opportunistic, but the lawyer that told him that would get him pardoned, and the president who did so.
I wish I could, but I can’t argue that point. Very sad, all around.
They kept the guy naked and in solitary confinement for a year, the sadistic bastards. He’s batshit crazy…who wouldn’t be?

Not enough absinthe in the world….
Just got with black licorice and vodka, it’ll be cheaper.
Depends on the vodka
So you have a suggestion for the “frugal libertarian” column mentioned above. Might want to add a few psych mushrooms to the recipe, for the full experience.
I look forward to the firearms alternatives suggestions.
But, that would make it a fungal libertarian!
Damn it, I’m already working on a series on how to make your own alcohol, and now you want me to start learning psychedelics?
Start picking them, anyway. Cultivating you own is tricky.
Or so I heard back 25 years ago when I was in the scene.
I’ve pretty much ruined vodka for myself, though. Haven’t yet with absinthe. (SOON!)
Don’t get your hopes up. Absinthe is basically anise flavored vodka with a whole story told about it. Thujone is barely in modern absinthe (especially in the US).
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
I was almost laughing at a local bar that offered “Absinthe”, with the whole glass, and sugar cube and everything. Too bad the bar tender didn’t know the reason behind any of it, nor why it was done.
Because horses like sugar cubes and…damnit can’t come up with a joke!
That wormwood picture is rather disappointing. I never looked into and always had images of somehow using wood to make liquor. Reality always disappoints.
I had a fun day on twitter with a couple back and forths with Andrew Heaton. That’s all I got, otherwise a mundane day of work.
Cool.
Is there. STEVE SMITH diarama?
What? And lose our Family Friendly Rating?!
I read that as STEVE SMITH diarrhea.
Cha cha cha
Dang, Panthers getting smoked.
As an AFC guy, I should want them to beat the Steelers, but nope, just schadenfreude. Newton is the platonic ideal of an insanely-talented guy who is easy to root against.
I was like “Wut, the Panthers beat the Oilers”.
The only reason Newton is still around is because of how big he is. If here small like RGIII he’d be done by now. I bet Cullpepper and McNab wish someone had coached them to actually be good quarterbacks, then their careers wouldn’t have rested so much on knee injuries. Shown what Vick could do once he was actually coached and Reid realized teaching guys to play QB was better than letting them rely on physical abilities, you’d think someone would have gotten that message through to Cam by now.
Yeah, I see “X is the future of the NFL!” every couple of years, as some phenom makes things happen by scrambling around. And they’re gone in a couple seasons.
Newton has hung on, but he’s not anywhere near, say, Rodgers in terms of a guy who can scramble but who’s real threat is throwing the ball, long term.
Yeah, mobile QB is a threat, but if that is the first and only trick in their bag of tricks then they are just the next Vince Young/Colin Kaepernik/RG III etc. But a QB who is good at passing and mobile enough to gain yards if it breaks down, that can be a threat, and doesn’t leave them with out a trick if the mobility suddenly disappears.
And I haven’t been able to watch much from Mahomes, but the way he moves around I’d guess he could pick up some good ground with his legs, but he’s blowing it up by passing first. Just now looked at rushing stats, and looks like he can move if he needs to.
I coulda been somebody. I coulda been a contender!

Yusef, that is beautiful work. I love watching craftsmen work.
You know, years before Power Rangers came out I remember watching Super Sentai at my cousin’s house, as well as a Plastic Man cartoon; no idea where it came from.
Pretty sure Plastic Man was ABC, so….
I mean, your cousin got ABC back then, right?
Probably. But I never saw it,
and haven’t been able to find it online. wait, found it. The internet is great! If only we had net neutrality!Reed Richards is one crafty bastard-especially when it comes to Saturday cartoons.
I woke up in the middle of the night and for some reason I thought about my best friend from HS that I had a falling out with in my 20s. I thought I should try to reconnect through FB, send him the Hat and Hair cartoons…find him on facebook he lives in Seattle now…and he’s a prog now…well that plan didn’t last long. Sure, he might like it, but then would come that awkward moment when I have to explain…oh well, back to bed.
I do that too; wake up thinking about someone who you haven’t thought much about in years. I still have twinges of regret that I lost touch with my best friend in college.
Also, I need an early morning EST post for my days off…..I have things to do by 8AM, I’m not at work after all…..
Hell. My bestest friends from back in the day are both long dead. I do have a friend from childhood with whom I had a falling out in high school – but we fixed it up 15 years ago. Nobody else out there to patch things up with.
Great stuff! My brother is into that so I’m going to try to bait him into checking the Glib side out. (spoken in the voice of Emperor Palpatine)
