Happy Halloween everybody. May you each be blessed by well made age of consent persons of your preferred oogling gender wearing revealing costumes. OMWC will get his eyeful, I’m sure. My oldest lost his first tooth today. I think that means [edit, added after: he has to get a job, right?]

Russian Navy has its usual luck. “Russia’s only aircraft carrier was damaged in a dock accident Tuesday that left one person missing and four injured, officials said.” At least it wasn’t an all hands loss like some of their submarine adventures.
Happy Halloween

“Save it for D battery giveaway night against the Eagles.”
I remember the outrage at how the Eagles fans behaved when they played the Vikings and was left thinking “you were expecting nice, polite people to show up? From Philly?”
I hate to say it, but I think the Vikings fans were part of the problem there. 1) They were butthurt by the Vikes being the Vikes and 2) nothing back here really prepared them for the diseased vermin that root for the Eagles. Both factors made us get the vapors and bitch and bitch and bitch.
I seem to recall that the Cleveland Browns had ‘Longneck Night’ at their stadium once.
Once.

100% on board with Stossel’s take on this. It’s their right to censor whoever they want, but they can’t claim to be pro-free speech if they do so.
Are they allowed to violate their own terms of service? Are corporations that receive massive government benefits truly private?
“Are corporations that receive massive government benefits truly private?”
This is the problem; they should be treated like universities. Universities that receive sweet government lucre are forced into certain policies and actions. Unless Big SocMed wants to give up their sweet subsides, tax breaks and government contracts, they should have to abide by the same Constitutional protections government does.
The other thing is that we don’t live in libertopia. Every other business is regulated.
“Go make your own platform” might be a fair argument if it didn’t depend on a number of choke points maintained by government.
Are they allowed to violate their own terms of service?
They aren’t. An analogy I used the other day: just because mcd9nalds has a sign in their window saying “no shirt no shoes no service” doesn’t mean that they’re required to serve all people who are wearing shoes. It doesn’t mean that they can’t make exceptions. It doesn’t mean they can’t interpret your translucent shirt as “no shirt” and kick you out. TOS aren’t a bilateral contract. They’re a list of ground rules for playing in FB’s or Twitter’s sandbox.
They aren’t violating their terms of service, that is.
Are corporations that receive massive government benefits truly private?
I don’t like going down this road because if the government can take your rights away because it paid you, there’s no end to the ways they can manipulate the system to take your rights away.
I still like McInnes as a provocateur in the same way I like Milo as a provocateur. He says outrageous stuff, sure; however, hyperbolic they may be, I’m have trouble finding fault with the core message of most of his stuff.
At the end of the day, if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product. And I refuse to be Big SocMed’s product. I just don’t use it.
The funniest thing about McInnes is how many people decided to smear him after the respectable crowd decided he was a baddie. I remember a Reason article by Soave who labeled McInnes as “far right” and an associate of “white supremacists” after some speech that he was suppose to give at NYU was canceled due to fascists rioting. The irony of the article was that I had heard Matt Welch on McInnes’ podcast not even a week before that (I never listened to McInnes’ podcast, but I decided to listen when I saw Welch was on there).
So Matt Welch associates with “far right” associates of “white supremacists”?
Correction. The Soave article stated:
“McInnes, it should be noted, routinely says obnoxious things that deserve criticism. He’s something of a Diet Milo.”
So a white supremacist by default since that is what Milo became labeled as for reasons that I still don’t understand
It should also be noted that McInnes was promptly dropped from Kennedy’s show after that incident too.
It’s super smart of non-progressives to decide who is and isn’t a baddie based upon the hyperbolic rhetoric of progressives. That’s a surefire way to concede on every point.
Milo is that gay white supremacist who likes Black men?
Gay Jewish white supremacist who bottoms for Black men, far as I remember. 21st Century’s Ernst Rohm.

Meh ‘He can’t be a racist because he fucks black dudes’, makes as much sense as ‘He can’t be a sexist because he fucks women’. It’s possible, and in some cases I’ve heard about quite a turn on, to fuck that which you hate.

“Just got off conference call where Libertarian candidate Rick Breckenridge throws support to Republican Matt Rosendale. Breckenridge says he did not have numbers to win seat.”
Dumb on so many levels. It should also be noted that Rand Paul just campaigned with the Republican nominee last week, so that may have led to this decision. Still dumb

Woo! Knife Parts arrived!
Note to our lurking authoritarians who overreact to woodchippers – That blade has no edge on it. It’s a letter opener.
Your letter opener must have a blade at least 4 inches in length. It will be subjected to a sharpness test by slicing open 10 letters, an endurance test by opening 2 UPS boxes, and a kill test on a ballistics dummy.
You have 3 hours to complete your project, and your time starts now.
Heh.
I just prepped the handle materials. The rod for the pins doesn’t arrive until friday. You’ll note that there are fewer bolts than holes. That was a mistake when I ordered them. So the bolster holes will be pinned and the other three bolted.
I think I might do a write up titled something like “Can Glibertarians Teach?” wherein I apply the advice I’ve collected from the other commenters and try to assemble a handle.
Oh, yeah, the epoxy isn’t here either. (But if I really wanted to spend another $10, I could get it retail)
you said you have copper bolsters coming?
No. If I mis-‘spoke’, I’m sorry. I have copper Corby bolts and copper pins. But those are just as visible, hense my fretting.
I have the primary holes drilled. I have not done the countersink for the bolts yet. But that is a more careful operation than “stack the components and drill clean through”.
I countersunk the bolt holes… sort of.
I’ll save the anecdote for the write-up. On the plus side, it’s not insurmountable.

Yeh. Totally gonna trust their take on things.
For the record Obama doesn’t understand how the government works.

Whoa, its all fun and games on the BART today. Oakland Chainsaw Massacre has a much lower body count than the original.
“He did say a couple of things. He said something about ‘I’m the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Then he said, ‘No, I’m the BART massacre,’” explained Bluford.
“I said ‘BART Massacrer‘, not ‘Massacre.’ I’m not an idiot.”
That would scare the shit out of me.
I would ride the NYC subway for another 20 years before willingly getting on a BART train again.
I take BART from SFO to the Kearny Street stop in the financial district. No problems at all.
I’ve only taken it in the East Bay – it’s more fun over there.
Call me crazy, but as soon as he started threatening people, why wasn’t he dogpiled before he managed to start the saws? I wouldn’t want to slapped with a non running chain, but they’re a little easier to deal with than a knife.
I blame you dastardly libertarians and your constant refrain of “nothing left to cut” every time the subject of mass transit (especially trains) comes up. It was only a matter of time before some nut took that rhetoric literally.
Also Trump. Trump causes people to swing chainsaws around a train.
Where did you get Joe Scarburough’s talking points for tomorrow?
I laughed
And to think Scarborough was once a fiscal hawk. Well so was Kasich and Bruce Bartlett…
To be honest, I got them from DemCentral, just like Joe did. I was just able to get them out earlier because I didn’t have to spend so much time sounding out the longer words like “chainsaw”.
Also, shouldn’t this be the Oakland Trainsaw Massacre?
Has anyone seen chainsword around lately?
No.
Yesterday people were wondering why Laika was sent to her death. Why? Because Sputnik II was a publicity stunt. Sputnik I was an unexpected propaganda coup for the Commies so they decided to try again but even bigger. Since the Soviets had been launching dogs into space and were planning on launching a dog into orbit so why not launch a dog into orbit? Problem was no one had figured out a way to recover spacecraft from orbit yet (they wouldn’t until 1960) so Laika was sent to her death. From what I can gather Laika was the only Soviet space dog deliberately sent on a fatal mission since the idea behind launching animals into space was to see how they reacted upon returning to Earth as well.
I meant to notice it, but It wasn’t just the dogs the Soviets were fine with sending to their deaths. Someone posted an NPR article the other day detailing how they sent a Cosmonaut in a spacecraft that everyone knew was faulty, but no one wanted to say anything because those that did had gotten demoted.
That was supposedly Soyuz I.
Allegedly Gagarin wanted to fly it so the Soviets would cancel it.
It’s a great article.

But not as interesting as his mom.

After watching the other videos, the fans are definitely throwing beers AT the players.
Huh, I only saw the one – maybe ad blocked?…
Regardless, I would think throwing beers _at_ Mookie would get you pummeled by everyone around you. That man is beloved.
Stay classy, Massholes
That headline is _deeply_ misleading – nobody was throwing beers _at_ the players, they were throwing beers _to_ the players.
(And if you think Mass sports fans are worse than Philly fans… I don’t think you’ve spent all that much time around either).
Speaking as a Philly sports fan, you’re right. We are the worst.
F*** HUD.
Background: I work for a company that provides reporting/Database for Homeless Providers, so that they can turn in their required reporting according to HUD’s standards. This year they wanted to roll out a new report, so they contracted out the design of the report to some company. The whole process has been pretty fraught with flaws. Last week we finally got a finalized form of the standards, and today is the day that Vendors were required to have the report ready for Homeless Providers. Today they (HUD’s Contractor) had a call with the Providers system Admins, and said that if they were having issues with uploading their data, that it was the vendors problem and that the vendors needed to contact the contractor.
Well needless to say we had a bunch of customers asking us why their data wouldn’t upload. we showed it to the contractor and they said “Oh, it looks like it is our fault, we’ll fix that”
/rant
Can’t you just pass around a spreadsheet or something? I know it wouldn’t make anyone $20M but still.
THIS! I’ve been thinking of an Article i can right up about this. How HUD sucks millions of dollars out of the system so that they can get their precious reporting data from providers. It’s pretty perverse. I have a house because of homeless people…
And yet people call me heartless when I oppose the government taking money from me, skimming large chunks off, and sending what’s left to the poor.
Not just skimming parts off, but then handing that out to Non-Profits on condition that they spend an enormous amount of time and money collecting data to send back to HUD.
As someone who interacts with those NFP’s, it’s gross but still more efficient than if HUD built and ran the projects directly.
Uffda. The evidence mounts against our soon to be Somali Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
She was living in sin in Fargo, ND. I blame Mike for his state not enforcing any decency laws.
It’s time to re-make The Proposal with actors of color.
I guess Somalians aren’t the libertarians they said they are.
Omar lived at the same address with the man she claimed to have divorced and the man she was legally married to
How is that not libertarian? Or do you demand the proof of ass-sex?
It seems like I’ve been seeing proof of her shenanigans floating around for years. I wonder why the MSM don’t seem interested in following it up.
She must be a tiger behind the scenes. She won her state seat by beating a legendary Minnesoda kook who served for 44 years. . I never thought she had a chance.
And what do you want from the local MSM? The badgered her into letting them look at a picture on her phone of a document that clearly shows that she was the youngest kid. What more could they have asked for? Access to the original document? Answers to why she lived with her two husbands at the same time? Contact info for the first husband?
The wiki says that kook proposed to eliminate the prohibition on first cousin marriages. I guess that district thought her position was too conservative, hence the selection of Omar to promote a more inclusive view of marriage.
Phyllis also wanted to give the vote to 16 year-olds back in the ’80s. She’s always been willing to act the fool to entertain the rest of us.
In the election before the one she lost to Omar, she was also in a tight primary race against a different Somali. Luckily she just happened to know about some voter fraud that the Somalis were engaging in and was able to hang on.
Sure was fortuitous. After all everyone knows that voter fraud never happens.
You should send this to Ron Bailey, he’ll explain why it happened and never happened simultaneously.
But..but… California allows the first cousin marriage. How is it a conservative position?
(I know that because someone explained that was the running gag in Arrested Development)
I was making an obtuse joke: Omar (unless I’m misremembering) is the person suspected of committing immigration fraud by marrying her brother. Sibling marriage is more inclusive than cousin marriage, so therefor the kook was too conservative for her district by not going far enough.
Oooh….
Well now I feel low IQ. No Rick and Morty for me!

No this would never happen here. Our betters know who is good and who is too far gone to the right.
There was a Polish intellectual who wrote a book a couple years ago that caused quite a stir. The English translation was “The Demon in Democracy”. He accused liberals in Europe of allowing communists back into the fold after the end of the Cold War, rather than rooting them out and barring them from election (which is what occurred with fascists after the end of WWII).
He was denounced as far-right after his book from my understanding
I was just looking at that book the other day. This review is worth reading.
Stop owning the left, this never happens!

No wonder why classical liberalism died.
Your
hatshirt is genocide, bro!“The people were just randomly seeing the guy and hearing about him wearing a shirt like that, and when they saw him, they decided to be rash about it,” said Kenwood student Alex Wilkinson.
Wilkinson was in an adjacent classroom from where the fight initially broke out; it eventually poured into the hallway.
“I definitely saw just a bunch of people just screaming at him from really up close,” he added.
“He was minding his business, honestly,” said Tra’shaw Holmes, another student. “They had no right touching him.”
Holmes’ mother asked, “Why would his parents let him wear it — from the jump, knowing it was going to lead to something crazy? Knowing what’s going on in this world?”
“I understand that it’s a controversial item. As a historian, I’d like to keep it in our history, of course, naturally,” said Nicole Wilkinson, mother of student Alex Wilkinson.
“You know, it was just inappropriate for him to be wearing it in school,” she added.
Oh, well that’s nice.
Community members commenting on the news story posted varying opinions with regard to the assault.
“The people on this thread that are saying the kid deserved it based on his clothing choice are no better than saying a girl in a short skirt is asking to be raped or a man with an expensive watch deserves to be robbed,” wrote Amy Strawser. “There is absolutely no excuse for this level of violence on anyone, much less a child.”
“No excuses to jump a kid in school for a shirt. Stop blaming the kid for wearing a shirt. Blame the kid who attacked the other for nothing, it’s a shirt, it’s cloth, no reason to attack,” commented Jason Shaner.
“He got everything he was looking for,” said Tasheira Carr.
“Here to see who says ‘but, its only a shirt,'” wrote Kinnis Williams. “I don’t agree with jumping him but he shouldn’t have had on the shirt.”
Shy Ward made the case for school uniforms. “So alot [sic] of caucasians blame this on the black students and black people feel the opposite way no party was right but this is a prime example of why schools need uniforms,” she said.
///Tolerance
So he was wearing an Ernesto Guevara shirt?
First thing I thought of.
Holmes’ mother asked, “Why would his parents let him wear it — from the jump, knowing it was going to lead to something crazy? Knowing what’s going on in this world?”
So she obviously supports bullying in the schools.
He deserves to be bullied, obviously.

Uffda. It was the only goddam fucking costume I figured I could wear and not be accused of cultural appropriation!
So we get to beat down the Thug Life guys now?
No that is punching down.
Look, I hate violence and am pro free speech and shit, but come on.
He knew what was going to happen, you knew what was going to happen, I knew what was going to happen as soon as I saw the shirt in question. So why pretend it’s something unexpected or unusual?
I mean, if it was to make a point of “some bad think gets tutt-tutted, some gets beaten down”, fine, but I guess I never had the martyr instinct.
I was just thinking to myself that I’m a coward. I think it’s funny to let my kid wear a Rand Paul shirt to school, but nothing more controversial than that. Same with speaking up online. I just don’t do it much because I don’t like needless confrontation and drama.
You’re not a coward. You’re just someone who knows which hills are actually worth dying on. (Hint: very few, actually.)
Thanks. It’s true that as I get older, I see fewer and fewer hills to die on.
So this may be old news to all the developers here who are part of the coastal elites, but I just wanted to let you know about some silliness that one of our scrum masters brought back from his latest Agile training (no Agile isn’t the silly part).
According to him the term “backlog grooming” is now a no-no. That activity is now known as “backlog refinement”. Why? Because grooming is a very, very bad thing that people do and “words matter”
I feel so cool today. Real PC nonsense finally made it all the way out here to us flyover rubes. I have to admit the moment was tainted a bit when the scrum master openly mocked this directive and also mocked the trainer who made a HUGE deal about it during her classes. How can we be cool and woke if no one takes this seriously?
As a Masshole tech guy, we’re still using ‘grooming’.
I can’t tell you how many of my user stories I’ve lured into illicit sex.
Tell us on the Kanban board where the Product owner touched you.
*slow clap*
Oh Kaizen! You are so lean! Touch my kanbans!
At least you’re no longer doing waterfalls, right?
Actually, they do a pretty decent job here of mixing tired old waterfall concepts (like planning ahead and creating design documents) with the new Agile shit. I’m old enough that I grew up doing the waterfall stuff and sort of miss it.
Agile is like capitalism. You know people are going to be lazy and just muddle through the project. Why fight it? Learn how to harness it. Waterfall was for the commies. It will work perfectly once the new Communist Man is perfected.
Ah laziness, so you’re familiar with minimum non-viable products then…
Tell them that as Pakistani-American, you consider “grooming” an important part of your culture.
Because grooming is a very, very bad thing that people do and “words matter”
Dirty hippy, or very stupid person who thinks euphemisms should be taboo?
Tell them to quit raping the world “agile”, then.
Former Sycamore High School special ed. teacher indicted for having sex with a student
It not what you think…
A Cincinnati-area teacher is accused of having sex with a student.
From May to August, former Sycamore High School special education teacher Jennifer Walsh, 26, had a sexual relationship with a female student, court records say.
Walsh is charged with two counts of sexual battery. A grand jury indicted Walsh Monday.

Ooooh, will this be a Lifetime movie? Will it be called A taste of special?
Make it Cinemax and I’m in.
You know they call that softcore porn because it doesn’t get you hard.
Sadly, Cinemax seems to be cleaning up their act. Showtime runs more softcore than them, these days.

I watched it because Dina Meyer is still fricking hot and she played a sex crazed psycho. HAWT.

She’s cute enough. She’ll walk with (x) years of probation/community control.
Also, Im about tired of Tricia Macke.
Okay, where were these teachers when I went to Sycamore? Although there were rumors about my junior year English teacher (that I do not believe at all, she had a long term boyfriend that she is now married to), and her contract was not renewed (also pretty sure the bitch head of the English Department didn’t like her allowing me to teach about the historical signifigance of certain works of American Literature in ways that contradicted the leftist bias of the textbook).
Im kinda surprised I havent heard Cunningham going on about it on the radio.

It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.
The key is to remember who started this hunt down: The progressive left.
“In the future, unless a company can afford the monumental expense of setting up its very own ISP, it will be subject to the whims and political leanings of its digital masters. This means that no start-up company will be free to operate without becoming a publisher, and being a publisher means you are open to legal action over the content you allow – a definition that will force all small operations to censor or go bust.”
This is the most motivating argument i’ve seen. PayPal, Azure and other providers are basically punishing businesses that don’t want to spend money on censoring content. Add to that the legal requirements for cleaning up content and it becomes impossible for a company to NOT be a publisher.
Oh even being your own ISP is not going to cut it. When ComCast cuts off access to your entire IP range, you can’t complain because “private company”.
But hey, if your users really wanted what you offer, they’d learn about VPNs and tunneling.
Keep hoarding porn then?

We are too unimportant to be labeled a hate site. Sorta like the LP. We’ll have to wait until the Right is suppressed.
Watch for the loss of Family Friendly Certified badge as a canary in a coal mine.
I’m not sure how serious you are but I agree.
You can still get quaaludes?
HM links and SugarFree stories are designed to baffle and confuse anyone trying to harvest the evidence of “hate”.
Come and get it.

In fucking GEORGIA. I guess she never wanted to win the election anyway.
Apparently she might? Haven’t looked at the latest polls.
I read the AJC every m morning. It’s really close.
Alabama elected a gungrabber you know.
Mind the gap
You know what’s funny too. Is the fixation on the AR-15. I know it’s one of the most popular rifles out there, but it’s hardly the most dangerous. It reminds me of SoCon fixation on Pot even though It’s essentially harmless.
Except libertarians are obsessed with pot since the SoCons hate it.
What SoCons still exist? In all seriousness. I think the last one was Santorum and he’s been out of the senate for over ten years. The SoCon thing has become a convenient boogeyman to excuse away the puritanism of the Evangelical Left (to quote Michael Malice)
Huckabee is always ready to run for President, at least.
He hasn’t held elected office in almost twelve years. Are there any who still hold an elected office?
Local/State level? Probably somewhere in out in the bible belt. Assuming “SoCon” means “white Republican who Bible-thumps and wants to ban everything he indulges in for other people”.
Federally? Probably not, although I’d waterboard Sessions and Pence just to be sure – I’m suspicious they’re secret SoCons, just keeping their mouth shut.
(and also, every Cabinet member should get waterboarded as long as it’s not considered an illegal interrogation technique, just to demonstrate its safety and OKness)
I think the SoCon thing is a convenient boogeyman to ignore the very statist social issues of the left. The Left has never been a very big on “leave people alone”. Prohibition wasn’t a “rightwing/SoCon” issue either. Modern progs owe a lot to the old Progressive social reformers who weren’t “SoCons” yet wanted to control personal lives.
Also it is a relic of the 1960s/1970s paradigm of Libertarians being Republicans in Economics and Democrats in Social Issues that gave us the Nolan chart and the “social liberal and fiscal conservative” tagline.
Prohibition wasn’t a “rightwing/SoCon” issue either.
Well there goes a man who hasn’t watched Ken Burns’s Prohibition. I will need you to educate yourself.
(yes, sarcasm on second sentence)
Christ, I’m tired of your collectivist bullshit.
What is “collectivist” about pointing out that Libertarians really like pot legalization? And I doubt libertarians would have made such a big deal about it if the SoCons hadn’t attacked it so much.
Uh, bullshit. Federal prohibition and criminalizing too damn many people is the issue.
So why pot and not cocaine or heroin? Or smoking laws? Or Drunk Driving Laws? Or why did they nominate “Bake the Cake” Johnson and “Ban Guns” Weld?
Same answer. The Feds want to criminalize as many people as possible. All those things you mention enable it.
Are talking about the LP, because most small “l” libertarians would be against most or all of the above?
Okay let me rephrase that: It is pretty obvious that the LP really thinks Pot Legalization is quite important. They aren’t really going to the mat for freedom of association or for heroin in vending machines.
Fuck, you’re pathetic. Libertarians are about way more than pot legalization. And they’re for it, not because some other group is against it, but because it’s none of the government’s business. You spend enough time on here that I’d think you’d absorb at least a couple of very simple points, but instead you prattle on with imbecilic leading questions trying to play gotcha by conflating one person’s opinion with what libertarians at large stand for. Seriously, Winston, fuck off.
Burn that strawman!
Like it or not Libertarians are known for their pot legalization views and for making it a litmus test. “Weed, Mexicans and Ass-Sex” and “Republicans who smoke pot” for example.
I do think the politics of the 1960s-1970s is partly responsible for this since pot was one culture war issue that libertarians and SoCons were on different sides and aspects of that era remain today in political discourse.
*One of the many culture war issues*
And I do think the libertarian take on the 1960s-1970s paradigm does still affect us. The assumption that Left would be anti-war and pro-free speech is from that time. As is the assumption that it is only the Socons that want to ban things and want to control our sex lifes and things we ingest.
Strawman, huh? Thanks for revealing yourself as a drooling moron for the benefit of everyone here.
Such reasoned debate!
Also you implied that I think that people here only care about pot. Sounds like a strawman.
FWIW, although I think ALL drugs should be legalized, I’d prioritize heroin, crack, and meth, just to clear out the aisles faster. The South Siders here and the denizens of Baltimore aren’t shooting each other over weed.
What would libertarianism be without mexican ass sex pot?
World’s loneliest circlejerk?
I don’t go to your house and shit on your hobbies.

The Mini 14 is functionally identical and a gun controller couldn’t pick it out of a lineup.
AR first, Mini et al later. They want all semis and, when they get that, pumps and lever actions.
With a solid LE exemption, of course.
Of course, those boys in blue have to get home safe you know.
And when they get those, knives. And when they get those…
Potato peelers.
Harsh words.

If you put a black resin stock on it, you’ll scare the fuck out of the same individual.
But I seen Hannibal and B.A. make a 5-ton military vehicle flip thru the air and explode with one of those death machines.
The A Team was the second most libertarian show on TV at the time. Private contractors resolving problems for people, going up against criminals that law enforcement couldn’t or wouldn’t handle, many cases of local government being corrupt, and of course incompetent Feds that couldn’t manage to track down 4 guys blowing shit up in small towns across the country while driving the same vehicle with the same plates everywhere they went.
They had a plan that came together.
I love it when that happens.
And if I remember right, never opening fire first, despite a prodigious arsenal they would assemble for the mission.
What was the most libertarian show?
Sanford & Son.
Thundarr the Barbarian?
Dukes of Hazzard.
Norman Lear and Johnny Speight have a sad.
Ok, if British shows are allowed, then Yes, Minister/Prime Minister.

Uh…they already make wood AR furniture…
Right, and they look pretty

But the upper receivers need to be steel, and covering that would turn it into a harmless Fudd gun.
Except an AR can hit a target.
The point has always been to make criminals out of as many people as possible.

She can’t. Honesty would lose the election. I eagerly await the Project Veritas vid of her stating her anti-2A views.

The survival of liberal democracies required a politically educated citizenry
I’d say this is generally true. But, there’s something that’s been bothering me. What happens when the lack of genuine education is most pronounced among the ostensibly most educated classes? I’ve found I’m as likely, if not significantly more likely, to encounter utter intellectual drivel and a complete inability to form a coherent argument from people with advanced educations as I am from people with only a basic high school education.
It’s been the empirical problem I’ve cited with the movie Idiocracy for awhile now. Yes, society has dumbed down. But, it hasn’t been from a swelling of the stupid and uneducated. It’s been from an erosion of the intellectual capacities of the “best and the brightest”.
That’s what makes this civilization collapse so interesting. Our Elites, the Cloud People, are being systematically un-educated. They are being trained in Gender Studies and other liberal arts disciplines so badly mangled from their original structure, they graduate significantly dumber than they were 4 years earlier.
In the 20th Century, Lenin and Mao had to round people up at gun[point, force them into reeducation camps, and brainwash them to believe the crap Marx preached. Now American idiots voluntarily pay $75k a year to get the same brainwashing.
Nonsense.
Properly re-educated people are able to create a Marxist dialectic argument on a given topic, even if they have to have some literature on hand. No fucking way would I expect a proper “thesis – antithesis – synthesis” logically constructed chain from a fresh four year grad. I mean, it wouldn’t be “dog talking” moment if they did, just that I’d not be surprised if they couldn’t.
Hmmm. Maybe if Columbia charged $100k and took 5 years…
A Five Year Plan you say?
That sounds like a good way to lay the groundwork for a Great Leap Forward!
One of the issues is that the way to create a “politically educated citizenry” that liberal democracies decided on was to create public schools. As we have seen creating government schools and having government employees teaching kids to support limited government created some obvious conflicts of interests.
Well that is what happens when the elites no longer believe in a free society and they think that statism benefits them. Big Tech and the MSM could oppose online censorship but destroying their opponents and the fact that they trust the censors makes them support it. The Deep State could realize that the USG current course is unsustainable but that would mean losing money and power. And are we sure the collapse will happen? And if it does it will happen after they are safely dead or they can get away so why bother fixing anything?
I agree and respect everything you’re saying.
But, I think the rot is more systemic than that. It’s not that they’re corrupt and actively working against their consciences. They don’t even strike me as having the intellectual capacity to even begin to understand the issues. It seems like we live in a world where educated people will switch their entire professed worldview 180 degrees in a matter of days because they were told to. Where educated people will “argue” with you by just repeating the same assertion over and over and ignore evidence you give to the contrary. Where screaming in someone’s face is considered a plausible substitute for a rational argument.
If it were plain, simple villainy, I think I could deal with it. There’d still be some semblance of a mind that you could address. But, I’m finding, increasingly, that I can’t even argue with a lot of these people. It’s almost as if there is no mind there to argue with.
The NPC meme had a lot more to it than I’m comfortable acknowledging.
Here’s a good example.
Trigger Warnings: Lauren Southern, leftists, Sargon of Akkad.
That’s an extreme example. But, I’m a little shocked how common that inability to reason actually is. Even if they aren’t screeching in your face, there are times I just feel the need to avoid any sort of complex topic because so many people have simply forfeited their ability to think. It’s not even the case that you’d have to break the discussion down into basics and explain things to them in simple terms. That I could accept and live with. It’s that they don’t even want to understand what you’re saying.
I dunno, it basically sums it up
“You’re a racist!”
“How am I racist? I..”
“You are talking over a refugee!”
“Refugee is not race.”
“Well then, what is race?”
“Race is skin colour….”
“Skin? RACIST DOG! RACIST DOG! [chanting continues as she leaves, baffled]”
It’s every argument, just stripped of bullshit.
But, is that even an argument?
Wolfgang Pauli coined the term “not even wrong”. This kind of thing doesn’t even rise to that standard.
But, is that even an argument?
A fine question, hashed by much better minds than mine.
It’s been from an erosion of the intellectual capacities of the “best and the brightest”.
That’s what I’ve been thinking for quite some time. I came to this conclusion when I realized that the educated class was unable and unwilling to understand what science/scientific method/falsifiable theory were in the context of global warming.
Ah Global Warming. Do the elites truly believe in it and are doing what they think will save humanity? Or do they truly believe it and are doing what they think is best for them? Or do they not believe it or believe it is highly exaggerated and are using it for their own ends?
You’re just gonna slop them all into the same bucket, huh?
So show me an elite that isn’t doing anything about global warming then.
Also you’re accusing me of collectivising the elites too, and this isn’t even the first comment in this thread to do so?
Yeah, because your question above is completely meaningless. Which elites? Choose a few, and maybe someone can give you insight into what those individuals truly believe. Asking what the whole of them believe is like asking what color crayons are. But you didn’t really want an answer, did you? Your real goal is to posit a rhetorical question that makes you appear thoughtful and informed.
Fine then the “educated class” the people earlier in the very same thread are talking about. You didn’t seem to think they were engaging in mindless collectivism.
I assume of course that you never criticize the “The Republicans” and “The Democrats” or the “the Conservatives” or “the progressives”
No I really do want an answer. You are just attacking me in bad faith.
I assume of course you know what all these people believe in.
Simple Winston, the direction the movement takes says nothing about the specific motives of the individuals in it. Gun control, as a movement, is as old as guns are. Get a fucking clue.
Also this thread was started because wdalasio replying to comment I made and I replied to it and he agreed and respected what I said. How does that prove that I don’t want answers?
Really? Now you are just moving the goalposts. And who is that “they” who want to get guns and knives?
Yeah, so what? As long as guns have been around there have been people who wanted them banned. I fail how this proves that the gun control movement doesn’t involve people who want gun control.
Spending time with Cisco’s security learning today. I feel like I’m going to end up like a more paranoid version of Angleton if I go down that rabbit hole. Blue pill please.
Are you not at home in the dojo?
Did they give you the lyrics to ‘Thong Song’ at least ?
Relieved of duty but still getting paid.

Well it’s cheaper to keep paying him, then suspend the pay then have to pay it all at once, with interest.
Fiscal prudence!
Article says he’s on desk duty, but had his gun and badge taken away. So not really “relieved of duty”, just reassigned?
Has Hayeksplosives taken a side gig in Wyoming ?
Holy cow! I hope they knew what they were doing and didn’t inadvertently spread the disease. Seems like cremation would be more thorough.
Less fun, but more thorough.
Here’s what you’re looking for.
One of my clients collects dead stock to process into, mainly, dog food. Then the collected oil and grease are used for biodiesel. Its not a pleasant operation to watch.

I’ve always wondered if what was left over did find itself uncovered by the tide as they had originally thought would happen.

100 pounds?
As I complete my research for the upcoming election in San Diego North County, I downloaded the GOP voter’s guide and the DEM voter’s guide.
I am going to note any measures where both parties give the same recommendation and scrutinize them extra carefully.
Bipartisan measures should always come with complimentary lube.
That’s what I suspect too. Gotta be gov’t growth and expansion of power.
I always vote against anything on the ballot that involves borrowing money.
I found the even-more-helpful libertarian party’s recommendation on all the propositions.
And the even more helpful guide from the San Diego LP.
When Barney CosPlay gets out of hand . Florida-style.
Dinosaurs, you say?.
In the morning links, there was discussion about how Donald Trump wasn’t famous until The Apprentice.
My anecdote is that there was an issue of Town and Country magazine (March 1986) featuring Ivana Trump and how instrumental she was in transforming various Trump hotels and resorts (and homes) into opulent (over the top for me, but the 80s had a lot of over-the-top stuff, didn’t they?).
My sister and I pored over that issue and marvelled at her dresses and her contribution to The Donald’s success.
Example pic 1.
Example pic 2.
Doubt they would have given her an article like that if nobody knew who the Trumps were.
Classy!
I recall your run-in with firemen, so naturally I thought about you when I saw this.
Dayum. NYC puts one of these out every year – it looks like they literally just pull random slobs off the street.
Those Austrian guys look like they are in good shape.
” ‘ats not a hose, mate!”
In the mid eighties, people were happy to celebrate wealth after the 70s recession. I think the big shoulder pads and exaggerations (big hair, gilded decor) were part of that.
Nowadays too many people see another’s material success and get bitter and want it “redistributed”.
I had some amazing suits in that crazy decade. I love looking back and wondering just what the fuck I was thinking!
I would say that The Apprentice revived his career. Prior to that he had become tabloid fodder for his social life and his business acumen seemed to have been reduced to spectacular (gaudy, ostentatious) failures and bankruptcy filings. The Apprentice changed that to a more professional businessman (or returned him to that role), in my view.
I knew about him long before that although not exactly sure from what – tabloids? I sure remember the whole USFL thing.
Looks like they appropriated some Islamic architecture in that second picture. The signs of his hatred for Islam go further back than anyone expected. Extra problematic.
Did he eat his Big Macs at that fancy table?
Donnie 2-Patties ?
I’ll add my anecdote. I first saw Trump in the early 90’s in the WWF. Yes he is friends with Vince McMahon, but they pushed him hard because he was famous outside of wrestling. Fucking remember the gif that CNN threatened to dox someone over. Late 90’s of him in the WWF. Hell, during the election it didn’t get much play because they were more focused on bigotry and pussy grabbing, but there were clips of him sitting next to some member of the Gambino crime family at a WWF event.
Well, of course they do .
The time of hidden needles and razor blades is long past.
Shit. Now I’m bummed my kids are too old for ToT. It would have been a nice surprise to find a nice Keef Kat or 3 Rastateers.

Put me in for some rasta reeces. Sounds delightful.
I’ve seen a half-dozen meth-laced candy stories already. I just assume it’s complete bullshit.
The stories running here are meth disguised as candy and being handed out to kids. Because, sure, that’s what you want to do with expensive drugs.
Of course, the news stories are singularly lacking in specifics.
I think you of all people would understand the importance of getting them while they’re young, even if you have to sacrifice some immediate profits!
Wait, was I not supposed to be handing out valium?
Yeah, you know those meth heads. They just give that stuff away. You’ll often see a group of them sitting around asking themselves what they hell they’re going to do with all this meth. Smoke it? Nah. Sell it? Nah. How about putting some in Halloween candy and giving it away? Yes, that’s the ticket!
It’s fake news, just like all the other moral panics.
I’m sure it’s just a pipe dream but could you imagine the shitshow in Portland?
https://hotair.com/archives/2018/10/31/liberals-beginning-panic-oregon-governors-race/
Don’t tease.
That would be pretty fun to watch, though.
Buehler is a squish pro-gun control (slightly less) big(ger) government RINO, the sort of Republican that Democrat voters say they want to vote for if only the Republicans would nominate someone sensible, all the while pulling the lever for whichever idiot has the D behind their name. And I’m still thinking about voting for him just to stick it to the D’s. We’re fucked either way.
Were Oregon Republicans ever considered to be “conservative” or where they always the bastion of liberal Republicans?
Liberal to at best establishment Republicans. The two R senators Packwood and Hatfield, particularly Packwood, dominated the party for years and molded it to support themselves. Shift towards socons in the 80’s in the party, as the state itself shifted left with large waves of migration, decreasing private sector, and increase in public sector and public sector funded jobs.
Yet another chapter in the Portland police enabling illegal protests, and fucking over the citizens paying their salaries:
The linked tweets say it’s the same vehicle. Intentionally hanging out in the street and get hit? He should have been one being cuffed. Fuck them.
Was he hit twice by the same truck?
Up until a very recently this phrase would have been utterly normal to me but after all of the “self-identity” stuff seeing this phrase makes me chuckle.
From news that’s maybe too local , on-duty cop suspected of being drunk gets tested, with bodycam footage. Its 8.5 minutes, but my favorite part is when the supervisor asks, “do you have any BACKUP weapons on you?”
Since we’re on the subject of local cops… APD’s public relations officer set to pull two hundred grand this year, two thirds of which is overtime.
The guy, from what I hear, is able to bill two hours OT for every phone call he fields off the clock. Per capita income in Albuquerque averages $27,000.
Well…if it takes that for him to get home safely every night, isn’t it worth it ?
Apparently they have more than one PIO AND a separate spokesperson. WTF?
That Brooklyn PR chick from last night is doing it wrong.
Do you not carry a backup weapon?
*confused*
Its my understanding from my cousin who is a cop, that ‘backup weapons’ aren’t issued by the PD, and therefore not officially sanctioned to carry on duty. Its understood, however, that nearly every cop has one. Or three.
I like to carry this as a back up.

Does anyone else hate the trick or treaters that are driven around and the parents just sit in the car, inching forward as they go house to house. I really don’t want to encourage the behavior, but it doesn’t seem right to take it out on the kids.
Also, if you have a mustache, you’re too old to trick or treat
For the record, this attitude gave us Stalin, Hitler and Conrad von Hotzendorf.
Give those kids a box of raisins.
You, sir, are one evil motherfucker.
I try.
It’s nice to be appreciated.
Are you sure those are the parents, and not OMWC out shopping?

In case the link barfs, Ted Cruz Twitter (blue checkmark and all) posted “Happy Halloween” with the image of Zodiac killer note.
WHY ARE THE MEMES TAKING OVER?!?!
I don’t get it.

You managed to miss the “Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer” meme?
Daaaaym, I guess that’s Minnesoda time…
So he’s the zodiac killer and his dad killed JFK? What a family.
Learn and love the Know Your Memes site.
Ah, some Twitter nonsense then.
How the hell did he have time for college?
He’s just an over achiever.
Send that man to Washington!
He certainly still wouldn’t be the most evil person there . . .

Yes, and, according to Wikipedia, he did:
What a hoser, eh.
OK, here’s my Hallowe’en story.
I’ve always lived in semi-rural places and have not had many trick or treaters over the years.
One Hallowe’en, many, many years ago I was sitting at the table drinking beers with my buddy when a knock came at the door. Some kid, with his dad, and a goodie bag.
It had been so long that we had stopped buying candy. I scrambled all over the house, looking for something, a cookie, a caramel, something. The only think that I could find was a banana. A banana for trick or treat.
It’s not only you that happens to.
Shoshana Weissmann’s costume from a couple years ago…
You should’ve just found a can of spray paint and handed it to him as you were saying “trick”
My son would prefer a can of spray paint to a handful of candy.
Wait till he graduates to R-22. Talk about expensive.
I’ll pretend you didn’t say that.
The next subaru story will make you forget all about it. Believe me.
Had the same thing happen to me about ten years ago. Gave the kid a five dollar bill and begged him to not tell the other kids. I guess he was a stand up guy because no others showed up.
No change dish on top of the refrig? I had to resort to that since we never have any little goblins until some old friends brought the little grandchildren.
“Don’t tell anyone or I’ll tell ’em to beat it out of you.”
I hope you gave the Dad a beer, That’s how it works in this neighborhood.
