I’m not going to get too fancy here because I was up far too late for a pervert my age. SP and I were watching a self-consciously arty French film, then moved on to a particularly cheezy old oater which featured a young Gabby Hayes. We immediately noticed a strong resemblance to The Late P Brooks, except that Hayes know how to thread. I came away with a burning desire to get a 10 gallon hat so that I could look like an old Jewish mushroom. It did not help that Spudalicious and I spent the evening texting each other tomato porn. On the bright side, we polished off a nice Gruet Brut and a better-than-nice Prunotto Nebbiolo d’Alba.
So anyway, that’s my excuse for a half-assed job today.
And today is the birthday of John Venn, the inventor of the Venn Diaphragm, birth control of many generations of mathematicians. Also Helen Thomas, the spirit animal for Jim Acosta. And Richard Belzer, one of my favorite comic actors. Oh yeah, and hack Chicago politician Barack Obama, who was the “Hold my beer!” answer to the question, “Could we possibly get a worse president than George W. Bush?”
On to the news of the hour:
Somehow, this escaped everyone’s notice. You know, I did vote for SMOD for president.
A meteor hit the earth and exploded with 2.1 kilotons of force last month, but the US Air Force has made no mention of the event. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory confirmed an object of unspecified size travelling at 24.4 kilometres per second struck earth in Greenland, just 43 kilometres north of an early missile warning Thule Air Base on the 25th of July, 2018.
What didn’t escape MY notice: the Fox “reporter” not knowing the difference between a meteor and a meteorite.
[T]op officials from the CIA, NSA, FBI and the Defense Intelligence Agency testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee that the Chinese smartphones makers posed a security threat to American customers. FBI Director Christopher Wray told the commitee the FBI is “deeply concerned that any company beholden to foreign governments that don’t share our values are not companies that we want to be gaining positions of power inside our telecommunications network.”
Funny thing, I don’t think it’s just foreign governments that don’t share my values.
I… don’t quite know what to make of this.
[Ray] Lewis said that he was such a force for good that his presence on the football field with the Ravens actually resulted in a reduction in crime in Baltimore. “When I played, crime went lower in Baltimore,” Lewis said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “It’s like, nobody needs to be mad now. It’s like everybody wants to be happy and celebrate.”
Well, certainly crime decreased in Atlanta when Lewis was busy playing.
I know our commenters will have fun with this story.
The 24-year-old’s lawsuit claims that men watched pornography at the office and that the “server area” was used for masturbation. According to the complaint, “An intimate knowledge of the porn industry and lingo appeared to be a job requirement.”
Gives new meaning to the legal term “wrongful discharge.” Thank you, thank you, I’m here all week!
When is this guy going to die already?
McCain, 81, and those closest to him have not publicly revealed his long-term medical prognosis. His daughter cannot imagine a world without him, she told Glamour. “He’s the last person who needs to be sick now because I so need him here, fighting for all the things that we believe in,” she says. “I’m scared of America without him.”
Oh honey, we’ll manage somehow.
I’m still betting that this will be the Team Blue presidential nominee in 2020.
Shortly after she won a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2016, Kamala Harris said she expected to follow the traditional freshman lawmaker playbook: “Listen and watch, and kind of get a lay of the land.”
As opposed to the lay of Willie Davis.
Sigh. Cosmologist does a titty-grab, hysteria ensues.
The unnamed woman, who according to the report declined to be interviewed by investigators when the probe was first opened in the summer of 2017, did speak with them in March. She told them that “she did not feel victimized, felt it was a clumsy interpersonal interaction and thought she had handled it in the moment,” telling Krauss directly that his behavior was not OK. According to the report: “She also stated to the OEI investigator that the incident did not merit the man losing his career.”
I’m having trouble imagining what kind of shit Richard Feynman would find himself in if he were alive today.
Do you know who else’s birthday it is today? The subject of Old Guy Music. And I can’t really comment beyond, “Wow. Just wow.”
I’m having trouble imagining what kind of shit Richard Feynman would find himself in if he were alive today.
– it is not to late to burn all his works
Also why does it matter Krauss is an theist?
Atheist goddamn it
I’m still betting that this will be the Team Blue presidential nominee in 2020. – i think it is about time we have a ____________________ president and she will do a damn fine job. By we I mean you people obviously
Jew. That’s what we need. He’ll balance the books and get us discounts.
Then again the whole drinking blood of children thing will be sensitive for a president
That’s actually been consistent over the last dozen or so administrations.
A friend of a friend is sort of a big deal in the mid-majors of horror fiction, and he co-wrote a book based on the premise that Hunter S. Thompson encounters a conspiracy involving Richard Nixon in particular, high-ranking members of the government generally and various Lovecraftian entities while on a road trip after he eats mushrooms grown in R’lyeh or something. I’m doing it a disservice, it’s a fun read, but it’s been a while and Evan Williams and I stayed up way too late last night so I’m not firing on all cylinders right now.
I should mention it’s called “The Damned Highway” in case anybody’s interested.
This sounds really interesting. Hunter S Thompson and Lovecraftian entities? I’m in.
Would we see more Jewsday Tuesday articles with one of (((them))) as president?
I could go for that.
Could you go for being twice as nice?
Israel Exposed
Vampire? You anglin’ for an interview Pie?
I am thinking they still try to roll out Biden, and deal with having to explain how he is less grabby than Trump.

I’m glad you enjoyed my recommendation of The Oklahoma Kid. You may enjoy Bogart in The Return of Doctor X too.
What was the French movie?
Elevator to the Gallows, recommended by Mojeaux.
Not as funny as Oklahoma Kid. Very much of its time.
Good choice. Have you seen Eyes Without a Face?
If you want “self-consciously arty”, watch Ingmar Bergman.
Not to be confused with Billy Idol’s “I’s Without A Face”.
Dat soundtrack tho.
I recommend a 1979 Gerard Depardieu movie called Buffet Froid. Language aside, it is unmistakable in its Frenchness.
I prefer to think of myself as resembling Yosemite Sam.
I prefer to think of myself as resembling Peter North, but that doesn’t really work, either.
He did a bunch of gay porn in the beginning of his career, so don’t feel bad that you have less in common.
NTTAWWT
He just foresaw the era of wokeness and wanted to still be able to tell gay jokes in 2018 without ruining his career.
When is this guy going to die already? My money is on 12 of march 2019
“One of the servers [she] was supposed to work on was named ‘Deep Head,’ a reference to oral sex,” according to the lawsuit. “English told [her] that he participated in an anal sex workshop at Burning Man led by a famous porn star.”
What happens at Burning Man, stays at …. oh, nevermind.
G’morning all you hungover glibs! Breakfast is in the pan, baby trshmnstr has already wrecked up the, and the destination this morning is the county fair!
I am not hungover and it is not morning, as such I am driking
I’m hungover and getting drunk with in laws tonight. Niigata sake is the best hair of the dog on the market.
Sake sucks though
Kamikaze didn’t do shots of tequila for a reason.

Gimme a few more times of listening to Muffin Man on repeat and I’ll start training the dog.
I’m not hungover, but I’m not quite right either. Apparently I also bought another gun last night. Kids, don’t drink Wild Turkey 101 and go to gunbroker.
Dude, don’t hold out the pertinent info on us.
Another SA 911, but this one has the green laser grips.
If it’s the one that showed up on DuckDuckGo near the top, that’s a cool little pistol.
This is the one I got earlier this week.
https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/PZDzBsqM3vVSoaLfRg7hrXRbc5nh5RUD41j899BS2hQ
I’m still not clear how I convinced myself I needed a second one, even if it has cool laser grips.
*shrug*
Nice!
Slightly hungover after several Wild Turkey 101s last night. Never had it before. Good finish.
I did not buy any guns, however. *hangs head*
Kids, don’t drink Wild Turkey 101 and go to gunbroker.
That’s good advice. I’ve seen a few pieces on GunBroker that have tempted me to treat my gun budget like a politician treats a taxpayer.
The next Amoskeag Auction is coming up too….
“He’s the last person who needs to be sick now because I so need him here, fighting for all the things that we believe in,” she says. “I’m scared of America without him.”
I, for one, would appreciate it immensely if you idiots would stop fighting for the things you believe in, since you believe in destroying freedom.
You know who else fought for all the things that he believed in?
Cassius Clay?
“I’m scared of America without him.”
The graveyards of America are filled with people who thought themselves indispensable.
One of my grandmother’s favorite sayings.
“Funny thing, I don’t think it’s just foreign governments that don’t share my values.”
“Old Man With Candy” translates pretty clearly in most languages.
“Responsive action is being taken to prevent any further recurrence of similar conduct,”
They’re going to cut his hands off? It’s fair.
Regarding your prediction that Kamala Harris will be the nominee, I decided to Google her since I don’t know much about her. The first hit is a story about how she’s already had to deal with “cyber chicanery”. They’re really running with this story.
Perpetual UnderDogism
The hysteria over being exposed to wrong thought on the internet lays bare the way govt thinks of their citizens. “We get fill your heads with propaganda, not anyone else!”
This ought to be the first result.

And the second should be a photo of a naked Willie Brown, because that’s what she had to surmount to get to where she is today.
Plus she’s 5’2. I’ll vote for a woman in a heartbeat, but we can’t have a 5’2 president.
It’s people like you that kept Mitch Daniels off the ticket.
She did. It’s her chicanery against Backpage.
Haven’t had my caffeine yet. Read that as Saturday Morning Underage Links. I was terrified to click on anything until I did a double take.

I blame Jordan Peterson.
I was Skyping with my friend in Nagoya last night my time. She was not a happy camper.
I think in everyone of my emails to my friends they’ve mentioned just how awful the heat is.
Ehm i mean i know it is fashionable to blame Petersom but…
Hotter than I remember it. Gives me a reason to imbibe more fluids.

The team page at that tech startup is classic. A bunch of thirty year olds and at the bottom of the page, one guy with actual long term experience in business.

Bonus: One of them is named Richard Wang
Too good to be true
Don’t be childish.
*thumbs nose at pie*
Sorry Scruffy, all of the Wang computer jokes were made 40 years ago. Nothing left in that feedsack.
My department head told a similar story about a well known cloud storage company. They had “parents day” at work, and he was mistaken for a parent of one of the employees. He said he was the only guy in the group over 30.
A friend of my six year old nephew once asked me if I was my nephew’s grandfather… I’m 23. I’ve always looked older than my age but going bald has apparently added a decade or two to that number.
Do you get carded?
I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never purchased alcohol. I’ve only ever drank alcohol when it has been offered to me.
My Dad got carded buying a small bottle of wine for his and Mom’s 70th anniversary. My sister was with him. She said Dad looked at the girl behind the counter and said “I’m ninety-two.”
“I’m sorry,” the girl replied, “But we have to card everyone now.”
Sometimes things just get too silly for words.
Blame the alcohol police. I don’t blame either the cashier or the store. Especially not the cashier.
Precisely. Iowa was having a “crackdown” at the time, and this poor kid at the checkout counter had to bear the brunt of gubmint stupidity.

She formally took back the reins as Prime Minister on Wednesday night and is now moving into Premier House in Wellington.
Ardern and Gayford will be pulling together secondhand furniture friends have passed onto them for Neve.
When asked whether Premier House had any work done on it to prepare it for Neve’s arrival, Ardern said “not unless you count a second hand cot”.
And is paid 20% less than the Australian PM
“Gayford”?
Oh, nevermind. Its too early.

Speaking of horse operas, I watched The Outlaw the other night.
What a weird movie.

Amen. “Making jokes about white people isn’t the same as making racist jokes about black people, or Asian people, or Jews, or gay people, or any other historically oppressed minority. This is a very simple principle, but one that many aggrieved whites find difficult to accept.”
She’s another one of those illiterate ignorami.
White people were never oppressed? Have these people EVER read a single history book? How can you possibly debate such breathtaking stupidity?
Racism is racism is racism. If you’re making the argument that racism is ok if it’s against people who were “historic oppressors” or whatever, you’re validating the core premise of racism, viz. that a person’s character, personality, identity, everything is determined first and foremost by their ethnic background. When you use the term “reverse racism” or say that it’s impossible to be racist against whites, you are making the same argument that every Klansman and Nazi made, just replacing “black” or “Jew” with “white”. This is something that should cause you deep shame.

From Elite Elite’s link:
Should that happen — when that happens — and journalists are dead because some nut thinks he’s doing the president’s bidding against the fifth column that is the media, what will Trump’s supporters say? No, the president is not coyly urging his supporters to murder reporters, like Henry II trying to rid himself of a turbulent priest. But neither is he the child who played with a loaded gun and knew not what he did.
Donald Trump’s more sophisticated defenders have long since mastered the art of pretending that the only thing that matters with his presidency is what it does, not what he says. But not all of the president’s defenders are quite as sophisticated. Some of them didn’t get the memo about taking Trump seriously but not literally. A few hear the phrase “enemy of the people” and are prepared to take the words to their logical conclusion.
Is my caller one of them? I can’t say. But what should be clear is this: We are approaching a day when blood on the newsroom floor will be blood on the president’s hands.
Very good. Now slowly droop onto the fainting couch and fan yourself, as the camera comes in for a close up of that single tear running slowly down your cheek, Bret.

I’m frankly more irritated by the way Google has decided that helping DoD build AI to *reduce* casualties is double-plus-ungood, but helping China upgrade their great firewall for tracking all citizens is a great service to humanity.
I don’t think they believe it’s a service to humanity, just a source of profit.

and DoD isn’t? And these are the same kinds of jokers who complain about DoD giving their cloud contract to Amazon/MS because they’ve put the effort in to certify and secure their systems rather than trying to let a mass conglomerate of tiny companies glob onto their data.
Tracking the behavior of the masses and then monetizing those records is pretty much the core of Google’s business model. That they’re collaborating with the ChiCom is not surprising, Eric Schmidt is no friend of freedom.

TV is on this morning. The left is freaking out about the job and economic growth numbers. They want the economy to tank so we can get rid of Trump. Trump must be hated and exiled, never mind that he is doing a better job than the last 4 presidents combined. Good grief. The left really is poison.
I remember a controversy when Rush Limbaugh said he wanted Obama to fail in 2008. Of course, when you listened in context, he explained that Obama’s economic and Healthcare policies would lead to widespread and negative economic consequences, and that by wishing for Obama to fail, he was wishing for the economy to succeed.
No such nuance from the left. They want Trump out, even if it takes a depression to do so.
Meh as I said before I would not credit trump that much for the economy altgough the tax cuts helped… although the budget deficit aint that great and the trade shit is still tbd
The trade stuff is where he could potentially have the most impact, IMHO, and I’m worried about his penchant for tariffs. So far he seems to be doing the usual Trump thing–talk big and do about 1/4 of what he says he’ll do–so I’m hopeful.
My take on it is that the tax cuts did help, just like they always do, but the tariff talk will lead to higher prices for consumers that will essentially erase any gains from the cuts. Tariff’s are a tax after all. And it doesn’t matter if they are actually imposed. It is my understanding that just threatening them on steel and aluminum (yes that is proper spelling) led Merican companies to hike their prices by 30% because they now can. I like cheap stuff, and cheap stuff is good for an economy.
They did. I work in manufacturing and we saw steel prices go up days after Trump first floated the idea.
+1. The material price fluctuations have really messed with my quotes.
My take on it is that the tax cuts did help,
I posted this a while back, but my progressive silicon valley company improved our 401k offering and offered a student loan repayment plan, both directly attributed to the tax cuts. Between that and the reduced withholding because of the cuts, my net compensation went up by hundreds per month, maybe even a thousand a month.
Trump has to do a whole bunch of stupid shit to undo the goodwill he built from the tax cuts.
Cutting regulations is having a positive impact.
On my morning drive the other am I heard an MSNBC reporter being interviewed by Hewitt, and she was going off on how trump is a pathological liar. I do think the pres stretches the truth at times, (“biggest tax cuts in US history” uh, ya, not true) but her focus was on 4% growth and Trump said Obama never did that. She claimed under Obama we reached 4% four times. If that is true it is news to me. I never heard of that but did hear every growth report Obama admin put out was later down graded by a point or two. I am aware I live in a bubble and 4% under Obama may have skipped my knowledge but I also know Obama supporters massage numbers and lie.
They’d burn the world to the ground if it meant they could rule the ashes.
They want the economy to tank so we can get rid of Trump.
No sacrifice (on your part) is too great, in the epic struggle between Good and Evil.

I do like some of Walt Whitman’s verse for reasons I can’t explain, but I generally agree with the sentiments expressed in this article:

Stock buybacks are eating the world. The once illegal practice of companies purchasing their own shares is pulling money away from employee compensation, research and development, and other corporate priorities—with potentially sweeping effects on business dynamism, income and wealth inequality, working-class economic stagnation, and the country’s growth rate. Evidence for that conclusion comes from a new report by Irene Tung of the National Employment Law Project (NELP) and Katy Milani of the Roosevelt Institute, who looked at share buybacks in the restaurant, retail, and food industries from 2015 to 2017.
Their new paper contributes to a growing body of research that might help explain why economic growth is so sluggish, productivity so low, and increases in worker compensation so piddling, even as the stock market is surging and corporate profits are at historical highs. Companies are working overtime to make their owners richer in the short term, more so than to improve their longer-term competitiveness or to invest in their workers.
————–
How much might workers have benefited if companies had devoted their financial resources to them rather than to shareholders? Lowe’s, CVS, and Home Depot could have provided each of their workers a raise of $18,000 a year, the report found. Starbucks could have given each of its employees $7,000 a year, and McDonald’s could have given $4,000 to each of its nearly 2 million employees.
“Workers around the country have been pushing for higher wages, but the answer is always, ‘We can’t afford it. We’d have to do layoffs or raise prices,’” Tung said. “That is just not true. The money is there. It’s just getting siphoned out of the company instead of reinvested into it.”
More sophisticated analysis from that financial genius, Annie Lowrey. There oughtta be a law.
Larry Fink, who runs BlackRock, a huge money-management firm, has argued that buybacks are bad for companies and even bad for democracy. “Society is demanding that companies, both public and private, serve a social purpose,” he wrote in an open letter. “To prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial performance, but also show how it makes a positive contribution to society. Companies must benefit all of their stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, customers, and the communities in which they operate.”
Fuck off, Larry.
But let us ignore the massive government distortion of markets that creates these situations…
This QE is what’s driving stock buybacks. The price of money is artificially cheap and that isn’t the fault of markets.
“Society is demanding that companies, both public and private, serve a social purpose”
That could be an exact quote from an Atlas Shrugged villain.
The social purpose they serve is providing me with products and services that I want to buy.
I don’t need them to do anything beyond that.
That’s why it burns my ass to hear people refer to elected officials as “public servants”. Most of the time, they’re not “serving” us at all – they’re fucking up our liberty and well-being.
Cops that burn babies are not servants. NSA snoops are not servants. CFPB dipshits are not servants.
And like you said, private corporations are serving the public in very big ways. Amazon sends almost any product to my door in mere days, and that’s not serving me?
That always translates to ‘I want your company and the wealth you generated to be at my disposal despite me having nothing to do with your success.’
“That is a real nice piece of work you have there. I am taking it.”
No matter how much they try to mask it when you boil it all down they are just thieves.
That was published July 31. Since then we have record high growth, record low unemployment and rising wages….a direct contradiction of everything that article says. Someone please take their keyboards away from them.
That Fink quote is a pretty good summation of the democrats line for the last 8 years under Mr. ‘Youdidntbuildthat’. I remember him giving a speech where he claimed companies had a social responsibility to hire people to bring down unemployment. He was genuinely puzzled as to why the economy performed poorly. ‘A run of bad luck’ he said with no awareness of what he was saying.
Fuckin’ idiot socialists. Herman Cain just said the S in socialist stands for suffering. I say it stands for STOOPID.
record high growth, record low unemployment and rising wages – record is a bit of an overstatement
Larry Fink’s argument is (mostly) bullshit
the thing about buybacks which concerns most analysts is how they MASK organic improvements in a firm, and thus when you’ve got lots of companies doing them at the same time, trying to figure out whose stock is suddenly improving because of liquidity-changes versus whose stock is improving because of real-demand, becomes unclear.
basically it creates artificial momentum, which can stimulate all sorts of mis-signaling.
there’s also some weird things about how buybacks don’t actually show price-effects in the near term, but like 6-9 months after programs have been initiated (forget the detail)
A related issue is that buybacks draw money away from investment; a dollar spent repurchasing a share is a dollar that cannot be spent on new machinery, an acquisition, entry into a new market, or anything else. Researchers at Deloitte point out that buybacks and dividends have soared as a share of GDP, whereas investment in equipment and infrastructure has remained unchanged. And new research by Germán Gutiérrez and Thomas Philippon of New York University suggests growing business concentration, a lack of competition, and short-term thinking on the part of investors have all contributed to firms “spend[ing] a disproportionate amount of free cash flows buying back their shares,” fostering an environment of “investment-less growth.”
Money is fungible. The money paid out in stock buybacks has to go somewhere, even if it’s to the people who build Scrooge McDuck money pools.
If “growing business concentration” is bad, why do we want those businesses reinvesting profits to make themselves even bigger and more concentrated? I would think the people who do these “studies” would be happy that the money isn’t going into mergers and acquisitions.
Maybe tax policy has something to do with low dividends.
Also maybe there is a lot of cash floating around but not than many clear investment opportunities. Also maybe the regulatory state / taxes / minimum wages / etc / etc / etc keep small competition away.

The growth of buybacks and growing research on the perils they pose has increased interest in regulatory or legal action to bar or limit them. Tung and Milani argue that companies should be required, as they were before the 1982 rule change, to provide dividends rather than purchase shares with their cash. “Issuing cash dividends (regular or special) has a less predictable and manipulative impact on a company’s stock price—and thus is less prone to gaming by executives or activist investors for their own gain,” they write. “Dividends also do not have the same potential as buybacks to mask the market and balance sheet impacts of increasing executives’ stock-based compensation.”
Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, among other legislators, have also put forward legislation targeting the practice, raising the prospect that the rules could change if and when Democrats take back power. “The surge in corporate buybacks is driving wealth inequality and wage stagnation in our country by hurting long-term economic growth and shared prosperity for workers,” Baldwin said in a release. “We need to rewrite the rules of our economy so it works better for workers and not just those at the top.”
Democratic Socialism will fix this economy right good!
Of course, unmentioned in their throwning-spaghetti at the wall? Dividends are taxable, share buybacks are not, and therefore hugely more efficient way to return cash to shareholders. (and provide real return)
this is actually just flatly false.
dividends, and the way stock prices move before and after ex-dividend dates, have been the subject of detailed analysis for 100 years. the effect is widely understood and in great detail.
buybacks are what are less-predictable (in short, tradeable time frames); they tend to be cumulative and occur over longer period of time, while having disproprortionate effect
Reduce the tax rates on dividends to zero, as the corporate tax has already been paid, and this ” problem” will self -correct
I have a hard time understanding how a public institution can get away with doing this.

But remember children, objecting to your tax money being used in this fashion makes you “anti-intellectual”.
The University of California-Los Angeles has hired 18 students at $13 per hour to combat “social injustices” and “privilege and oppression” following a semester-long recruitment campaign.
Firstly, 13 dollars an hour?! Secondly, I would love to go back to college if only to troll these assholes.
Would this be the algorithm that determines everyone who visits porn hub wants to watch some guy bang his sister?
Go on….
A Silicon Valley startup’s “sexually charged office culture” included a “designated area” for masturbation and a chief technology officer who took his pants off in a meeting with one of his employees, according to a lawsuit filed this week.
A factory I worked in one summer when I was an undergrad had a room that employees would often use to have sex. Unofficially of course, if management caught you you’d get fired. When I think about my co-workers, there are very few I’d want to think about having sex.
As for software companies, times have changed.
Most of my co-workers are over 50. I’ll pass.
Over 50.

“Imagine that the United States gets through the presidency of Donald Trump without a crippling constitutional crisis”
You mean the one the Left is desperately trying to make happen?
I lived through 8 years of shitty Obama policy, you people can make it through Trump.
And what crisis would that be? Can they name a single thing Trump has done wrong, cuz I can sure think of quite a list of things they have done. Let’s start with Chocolate Jesus using the machinery of the state to spy on political opposition banana republic style.
trumps energy policy caused heatwaves in Europe and Japan. People died.
“English told [her] that he participated in an anal sex workshop at Burning Man led by a famous porn star.”
How do you come to the conclusion that you’re doing so hopelessly wrong that you need a workshop?
after 3 failed attempts?
Maybe he should change his name from English to Greek.
Note it doesn’t say if the porn star was male or female, or if English was a top or bottom. So many questions . . . .

Winning hearts and minds.
A top official at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) suggested on Friday that people “jack up” senators who don’t oppose President Donald Trump and that Republicans need to be made as “uncomfortable” as possible…
“We have some Dems that quite frankly are very nervous; they are going for reelection; we also know the states they are going for reelection, statewide, are states that delivered for Trump.”
Sheldon then said that some of the Democratic senators are afraid that Trump might be able to jam them up but said that shouldn’t scare them because people can “jack’em up,” referring to senators who don’t oppose Republicans and the Trump administration.
Sheldon also called for people to make Republicans’ lives as “uncomfortable as you can possibly make it.”
“Tolerant” leftist is “tolerant”. As an aside I would like to point out the incredibly racist name of the NAACP. I’m told that “colored people” is badthink phrasing, but “people of color” is perfectly fine.
Record low black unemployment and this is what the NAACP is going with?
Genius.
“Funny thing, I don’t think it’s just foreign governments that don’t share my values.”
This.

His campaign message is right in line with the rest of the Dems: “Free shit for everyone!” I can’t believe Reason made a mess in their panties over him.
Why cant you believe that? I find it completely unsurprising.
I am wondering how long before they come out as democratic socialists.
reason easily swoon over so called “civil libertarians” aka not really libertarians. I cannot see why some libertarians do not realize you cannot separate social and economic and civil liberties. liberty is liberty. you either take the whole or don’t. One of the most idiotic presumptions is that you can have a government that does everything you want and nothing you don’t. Government involvement in the economy comes with restrictions on free speech and surveillance and other things. You cant say you support free speech and big government.
“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.”
One of the most idiotic presumptions is that you can have a government that does everything you want and nothing you don’t.
See, it’s Negative Nellies like you that are blocking our path to Utopia.
Preach it, brother. If you think you can have state run massive redistribution of wealth and not have people’s civil liberties crushed somewhere along the way, you’re either an idiot or a psycho.
Chaos. Mayhem. Murder
The partisan polarization of the court is a powerful vector of Republican policy. With a chaotic and deficient president and a deeply dysfunctional majority in the House, the Supreme Court represents the GOP’s most effective political arm in Washington.
Conservative policy that fails in Congress and in the states is advanced, five votes at a time, by the conservative activists on the court. The court will only grow more crucial to Republicans after Democrats regain power, sooner or later, in elective offices.

Finally, lest the nation’s ranks of moderate suburban women need additional cause to recoil from Trump, Kavanaugh’s record on guns is a rich source of concern. The Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller decision, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, declared an individual right to own firearms, a feat accomplished in part by overlooking the Second Amendment’s cumbersome contextual cue about a well-regulated militia.
The 5-4 ruling was a great legal victory for the gun movement. But it resolved little practically. Are prohibitions on semi-automatic rifles constitutional? What about concealed carry? Open carry? Those remain open legal questions.
Based on previous rulings, especially a lengthy dissent he wrote in a gun-rights case dubbed “Heller II,” Kavanaugh appears inclined to adopt the National Rifle Association’s vision of guns everywhere for anybody. He opposed a gun registration requirement in Washington, D.C., and stated that there is no distinction between a semi-automatic handgun and a semi-automatic rifle, a view that, if adopted by a Supreme Court majority, would effectively invalidate state and local bans on assault weapons.
We’re doomed. Trump’s Amerikkka is just like the Mad Max Wasteland, only with more guzzoline. And assault weapons available on any street corner.
During Obama’s presidency, they were easier to get than books.
I get the impression they’re going to try to pack the court the next time a Dem’s elected president and they have control of the Senate.
“an individual right to own firearms, a feat accomplished in part by overlooking the Second Amendment’s cumbersome contextual cue about a well-regulated militia.”
I guess they will never give up that lie but I sure am tired of hearing it.
Conservative policy that fails in Congress and in the states is advanced, five votes at a time, by the conservative activists on the court.
SO. MUCH. PROJECTION.
Kavanaugh’s record on guns is a rich source of concern.
Subjective.
the Second Amendment’s cumbersome contextual cue about a well-regulated militia.
Prefatory clause is prefatory. It’s like these people don’t even know how English works. There is only one part of the statement that is 2A that can stand on it’s own, and it ain’t the first part.
Are prohibitions on semi-automatic rifles constitutional? What about concealed carry? Open carry?
Strictly speaking: No, no, no.
National Rifle Association’s vision of guns everywhere for anybody
Straw man is made of straw.
would effectively invalidate state and local bans on assault weapons.
It’s almost like the federal constitution is supreme in it’s limited areas of authority.
“You ask, who are the militia? They are the body of the people, every person capable of bearing arms.” – George Mason, co-author of the second amendment.
I am sick of the well regulated militia lie. I dont need them to tell me what it means. The goddamned author of the amendment told us what it means.
That and literally every mention on the topic in the Federalist Papers supports private arms ownership.
Yes, there are a hundred quotes to that effect. Gun grabbers lie. It’s what they do. I have never heard one tell the truth. Not once. Everything they say is calculated to deceive in some way.
I will say it again: No one ever in the history of the world wanted for you to be defenseless for your own good.
And I heard this one the other day…if government tells you that you dont need a gun, you need a gun.
Holy shit, the stones on these motherfuckers. You really want to start tossing around accusations of governing by judicial fiat, lefties? That’s rich.
Antifa promises peaceful demonstration and thought-provoking discussion with conservative prayer group
“History has shown that militant resistance is a necessary and important tool in the fight against fascism,” the Resist Patriot Prayer: Violent Alt-Right Bigots Off Our Streets Facebook event page said. “We make no apologies for the use of force in keeping our communities safe from the scourge of right-wing violence.”…
“The genocidal ideas they [Patriot Prayer] espouse and their belligerent tactics should not be dignified with a debate,” the Facebook page said. “They need to be routed.”
Interesting pov…
“We never had guns to the intent to use it because we don’t want anyone to die,” Gibson said. “We just always had guns because we felt like number one, we should always be prepared for someone else stepping in there with a gun, some crazy dude with a gun.”
Gibson also said Portland does not respect self-defense.
“And so, I think it is easy for people in Portland to freak out especially if you cover your face and you use and your biggest weapon is a pole and you don’t know what it is like to be a real American and to have guns and to go shoot guns,” Gibson said in the Facebook video.
Patriot Prayer hired armed guards to accompany the protesters to Portland, though Gibson will not have a gun. Gibson hopes both sides will be able to exercise First Amendment rights.
“At the end of the day you can’t punch an ideology out of someone, you can only talk and learn and grow,” Gibson said, according to KOIN 6 News.
Who are the fascists, again?
Like I said yesterday: call me when they bring rifles and start killing each other. Otherwise the LARPing is just tedious.
Conservative policy that fails in Congress and in the states is advanced, five votes at a time, by the conservative activists on the court.
That’s bad, because the court should be advancing the progressive agenda.

People who know him from Fox maybe?
Possibly. Would make me happier to see more youngsters.
Either way, it’s really good. Thanks!
Fuck these assholes.
Friday afternoon, these idiots were on the left lane of a two lane interstate, going 5 under the speed limit where the normal fast lane speed is 10 over. Causing a slowdown behind them for miles. Refused to move over to the right lane. For assholes whining about the law, the law also requires slow moving vehicles, commercial trucks, and trucks with trailers, which they hit all three, to keep right unless passing.
Fuck them and their self-righteousness.
I looked at their map. If I need a tow, I know whom not to call.
In Romania the law generally requires all vehicles to keep right if not passing.
“Apparently I also bought another gun last night. Kids, don’t drink Wild Turkey 101 and go to gunbroker.”

Here, how’s this?

Caprese is always a wood.
Our tomatoes are running late this year, but we managed to get a few ripe ones yesterday for this.
Overnight we got an infestation of tomato worms. Looks like a lawnmower went through our tomato bed. I go one day without looking and that shit happens.
Still, we have gotten many delicious tomatoes so far this year.
Your growing season is pretty long, isn’t it?
It was pretty tasty. The burrata is always a nice touch.

Dick. You know my presentation was better but you’re a coward.
I lost yours in a boating accident.
That looks pretty good. My vegetable matter quota is being met today by a gallon of excellent cherries. They aren’t raniers but they taste almost exactly like raniers. I am just grabbing one or two every time I pass the kitchen which I will keep up all day.
Good for the joints.

“And today is the birthday of John Venn, the inventor of the Venn Diaphragm, birth control of many generations of mathematicians.”
As a computer scientist I must say that this confirms my impression that mathematicians tend to over-complicate things. I’ve found my personality a perfectly sufficient method of birth-control and I suspect I suspect it would be so for the average mathematician as well.
