Happy Fifth of July! To celebrate, I think I’ll drink a fifth of something tonight. Probably Early Times in honor of my wife’s stepfather. He passed quietly Tuesday with his family having made their good-byes. Someone else will step in tomorrow afternoon, as I have a memorial service to attend. I don’t want to hear any “that sucks!” or “sorry!” in the comments, go hug someone you love or at least send them a text. I’m glad to have known him and he’s far more comfortable today than he was Monday when last I shared. We’ll take care of my mother-in-law as she rebuilds her life. If you’re inclined to raise a glass, it’s one jigger of whiskey and two of coke on the rocks.
Apparently, Florida Man needs to just redneck up and do the fireworks himself in my neck of the woods. From my spot on one of the highest hills in Pinellas County (approximately 65ft above sea level), I was able to watch my neighbor’s fairly awesome display, as well as see two or three other, more professional fireworks shows. And everyone was done by 10:00. Except the random Florida Man, but he was pretty quiet.
The Fifth Circuit picks a fight with Clarence Thomas. The reporting is so terribly opinionated its hard to tell, but the 5th Circuit did find the strip search of 22 girls unreasonable. Perhaps if they had identified a single suspect? Any Constitutional scholars want to weigh in?
Hey, how could a Minstrel Show by woke folk be so horribly misunderstood?
Time to start watching for Cones of Probability again? I would say it’s my 3rd favorite season behind “College Football” and “natives with bikinis retake the beaches”.
Scientist tries to heed 2001’s warning, wants to bypass Europa for another moon.
Buncha kids playing stuff that could be mid-70s… or mid-90s.
Rye whiskey, baby!
I ran out of Whistlepig 12 year old and Sagamore Spirit Barrel Select. All I have now is bourbon, buy yeah, I like Rye a lot.
Mmm, sagamore cask strength…
I think I’ll drink a fifth of something tonight
Yikes. I usually have a 3 -4 oz cocktail, and another 3 oz nightcap. The nightcap may get topped off, depending. A whole fifth in one night would be . . . a lot for me. A quick look at a BAC calculator tells me I’ll be rocking a 0.06 – 0.07 when I’m done.
Legal to drive, but honestly, I feel impaired enough that I really wouldn’t want to.
Luckily I won’t need to drive until 9am. I figure if I get it all down by 10pm, I should regain consciousness about 6:30 when then kids wake up and be under the limit by 9:00.
A fifth, like in 750ml? I’m guessing, looking at my bottle of Eagle Rare, that I drank maybe 1/5 of the bottle last night, or 150ml. On top of about 8 beers. Let me put it this way. I would not drive today anywhere, because when I woke up this morning, I still felt a little drunk. An entire fifth of whiskey at 40%, I’m not leaving the house for probably 2 days, but I bet it’s been 30 years since I’ve even attempted something like that.
I actually don’t believe I could get that much 80 proof in me in one sitting, but it made a good conversation point.
I think I could do it, but I know I would regret it for a week. The last time I came close to that was when I drank about 75% of a bottle of cachaca my wife brought me. I woke up and was like ‘What the fuck, where am I? What day, hour, WTF?’. Then I got up with my head throbbing and my wife, girlfriend at the time, was sitting on the sofa with this look I did not like (my head hurts worse now), and she says ‘Mr Hyperion, you drank too much cachaca last night and you were too silly!’. Ye gads, that really made my headache worse.
I drank everything but a finger of a fifth of Jefferson’s when I hosted cards a few months ago.
Drunkest I’ve been in 20 years.
Woke up slightly buzzed and had absolutely no hang-over, with $300 in my pocket.
Would not do again.
That’s happened to me with pool a couple of times. Apparently I’m unbeatable when I’m in a blackout.
Do not try at home.
Hey look, Pruitt is out at the EPA.
great. now Sidwell Friends teachers are going to be encouraged to scold more people in public.
I want to be his replacement. I’m going to get up early and start taking employees stuff out of their office and throwing it out on the front lawn. I’ll then nail signs to their doors reading ‘You’re fired, you worthless parasite!’. Should take about 3 days for me to be a boss with no employees. Then I just set the building on fire and walk away.
Now there’s a man with a plan!
^^^I endorse this statement.
Needs moar red swingline stapler.
A vote for Hyperion is a vote for common sense environmental protection!
Would you consider joining the Animal/STEVE SMITH 2020 campaign? I can promise you a sweet Cabinet post.
I’d also put a sing out front that read “Vacant Lot for Sale: $21 trillion OBO”
Screw Early Times, go with Old Charter.
Hot, wet and mostly nude is how we like our cheesecake around here (interpret that how you’d like).

6, 8, 18, 23, 32, 35, 38, 50, 54.
In one context crustless cheesecake is an abomination. In another context, the cheesecake being crustless is a requirement.
38 looks like a nice gal.
I’ll second 38.
Shouldn’t you have played this for the 5th?
If you’re going to wreck whiskey by mixing it with coke, then Early Times is as good as any I suppose.
Exactly. Jim Beam should be wrecked with Pepsi.
I just can’t even…
Anything cheaper than Makers is a mixer. Anything more expensive should be drunk straight (or possible with a splash of branch). Makers is the pivot bourbon and can go either way.
robc gets it.
My pivot is Very Old Barton, which is much cheaper than Maker’s.
But price isn’t really the determinant, because Woodford’s is slightly rancid and needs covering up.
Agree.
I actually like Jeam Beam best if I want a Bourbon and Coke.
That might just be nostalgia though.
Or Jim Beam.
My favorite mixers are Larceny, McKenna 10yo and Knob Creek Small Batch Rye. All reasonable in price and can also be sipped neat.
I recently tried the KC Small Batch Rye and I concur; it was quite nice and most excellent for the price.
It also makes a mean Manhattan.
I recognize the words as being English. But this makes no sense.
I had a roommate in college from Lake Charles. One night I came home to him eating Moon Pies and drinking JIm Beam and Pepsi. No! No. It was RC Cola. So scratch Pepsi, make it RC.
The Bourbon Street bar for which I was many years a drunkmaker had RC Cola on the gun just like G/d intended.
I was also a YUUGE fan of the Rue De La Course coffee shop down in the 1/4 as they did in fact have real Pepsi Cola on the gun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOfMUJVf26c
Here here!
That sounds disgusting.
Pepsi. :X
it’s one jigger of whiskey and two of coke on the rocks.
He didn’t say you had to mix them.
Drink the whiskey and give the dog the coke.
Yummy. (Not Bourbon, but good stuff)
Campfire is an interesting drink. I really like it but I wasn’t happy when they jacked to price through the roof.
OMWC has a sad.
Ask the 5th circuit if it would be OK if we gave them $50, instead of charging them?
Well, shit, I’m going to cross-post. I don’t like doing that, but the other thread is dead walking. And I’d like to get the thoughts of fellow Glibs on this. It seems important.
I’m starting to think that Democrats are in real trouble. Take what you want from this, but if it’s true, it spells big trouble for Democrats. They are counting on millennials to save them. So what happens when half of them desert? And then what happens when the generation after them are more conservative than any generation in decades?
BLUE WAVE?
I say don’t believe the hype. Its always the end of one party or the other. Remember, the Dems have to contend against the Stupid Party. It will be same as it ever was. The Republicans were dead in 2010, the Dems in 2018. There’s huge money to be made keeping it close.
The same thing that always happens when one political party gains power. The Republicans will believe they have a mandate from God and use their power in ever more venal, corrupt, and stupid ways. Ultimately that will drive people away from them and revitalize the Democrats. Then the Dems will get the chance to do the same thing again and drive everyone back to the Repubs. Rinse. Repeat.
There seems to be a downward spiral.
I keep saying it – the Blue Wave is the biggest pile of wishful thinking since the unbeatable Hillary Clinton was ahead in all the polls.
Karl Rove talked about permanent Republican majority, then ObamaCare was going to be the Dem target to permanent majority. If not in 2018, then by 2022 the Dems will win again.
My guess is 22.
It’s going to get worse for them before it gets better.
Some of my reliably liberal friends are sick of their shit. At the very least, they’re staying home.
Maxine Waters isn’t cutting it.
I’ll be shocked by a wave, but I still think they win the House. Team Blue is energized, Team Red tends to run their radicals in purple districts while Team Blue runs theirs in solid Blue districts.
Their crazy obnoxious core is energized. The ones who already live in undisputed Dem districts. Everyone else is repelled at what they’ve become.
The factory folks were pretty much silent in 2016. I didn’t see a single Hilary sticker on a car in the parking lot, even though I still see new cars with brand new Obama stickers in the lot here in 2018.
The democratic party has abandoned the 40-50 year old, white, skilled-labor that used to be the core of their support in the rust belt.
Anyone that thinks these people are going to be energized by immigration and gender politics is a idiot.
The Dems figured the Repubs would be too stupid to try to get their votes. They were right, they just didn’t see the Donald coming.
I mostly agree with this. I’m not sure running radicals will work in any purple districts but in general one should play to the party radicals during primary season and then pivot to the center during the general, something Hitlery was too toxic to figure out . This might not work in places that are so solid for one or the other, you have to gauge just how solid it really is to know.
The pushback against party radicals won’t come from the other side so much as it comes from the disgruntled members of the base not showing up to the polls at all. The NY socialist that beat the incumbent in the primary won in such a small turnout that it seems to indicate the base hated both candidates – even if the state party honchos anointed them as their two best in the district. That’s where the opposing party has a better chance of winning by pivoting (in rhetoric only) toward the disgruntled side of the opposition – they won’t necessarily get a bunch of swing votes, but it keeps the opposition voters at home: “I’ll never vote for THAT party, but their guy makes more sense than OUR guy so I’ll just stay home.” The Dems are so far up their own ass they won’t figure it out internally, just as the GOP was (Trump had to shock them into sense).
Sure, the saner Dems see the insanity for what is and even the more insane ones can’t be outraged 24/7. This will likely benefit the Reps somewhat in 2018 but, in the long term, it’ll benefit the Sanders/Ocasio-Cortez far left types which really isn’t good for any of us.
I’m not really sure the swinging pendulum applies this time. At least in my lifetime, I do not remember either party being so radical and outright calling for violence against anyone who disagrees with them. Just think, if a black person or a gay person, or a woman decides to vote Republican, what happens? Do the democrats try to reason with them about why they should come back? No, they demonize them and try to destroy their life.
the best modern example I can think of is Labour in the 80’s after Thatcher broke the back of the unions. My guess, they’ll be in the wilderness 6-10 years before a moderate reformer will kick the hard left out and snag some center-right positions and voters.
my guess is ’18 here will mirror the ’87 elections in the UK.
More like ’92. Didn’t the Conservatives have a huge majority after 1983?
they did after ’83, but the extra-electoral action in the form of the miner’s strike was a reaction to the failure of the leftist position in the ’83 election, similar to the ’16 election here.
I think there will be a slight blue gain but no takeover, like ’87
I meant the the Conservatives wound up with a slender majority in ’92; there was no way they were going to lose in ’87 because they started with such a huge majority.
There will not be a Blue Wave and Dems won’t win the House or especially the Senate. If they continue on their present path they will become more irrelevant. But yeah, Team Stupid will surely fuck it up eventually. I just want it to go on long enough that progressivism is sidelined as an ideology in favor of liberalism.
I’m not quite ready to declare the Dems dead, but I do think that their pivot to openly embracing socialism is a tactical error.
I think it’s interesting that 10 Dem Senators (10 right?) are up for election in states that Trump carried. All of these senators voted for Obamacare, against lower taxes, and most voted against Gorsuch. They’ll have another SC vote right before the midterms.
I’m not a pollster, but these don’t seem like favorable factors for the Dems. Not predicting a Red wave, just find it interesting.
have young people started voting in numbers where it would even matter if they walked away or not?
If by ‘young people’ you mean millennials, then definitely, yes.
40-50% turnout for the 18-34 brackets.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout_in_the_United_States_presidential_elections#/media/File:Voter_Turnout_by_Sex_and_Age,_2008_US_Presidential_Election.png
I think there will be a blue wave. The democrats are motivated to come out and vote. Many of them believe that Trump is stripping them of their rights even if they can’t exactly tell you what rights they are losing.
“Dude, the election was yesterday. Oh man, bummer. I totally was like ready to vote out Trump.”
I think that statement will be uttered countless times on the first Wednesday of November.
The leftist crazy talk is motivating the right to show up too so it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out. I don’t usually vote in the midterms but I just might vote this time to send the left a message.
Yeah, the leftist crazy talk is more likely to keep moderate dems home than show up to support the crazy, especially in midterms. Like you, I’m more apt to vote this midterm in order to vote against teh crazy.
When I hear blue wave, my mind thinks of little old ladies after the hair salon with their hair dyed light blue.
I think about that blue water they use for tampon and diaper commercials.
Ewww
‘ Terry Hood, a 34-year-old African American who works at a Dollar General store in Baton Rouge, La., told Reuters that while he voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, he will consider a Republican for Congress this year.
“It sounds strange to me to say this about the Republicans, but they’re helping with even the small things,” Hood said. “They’re taking less taxes out of my paycheck. I notice that.” ‘
Always remember, people tend to not vote against the people giving them shit. There will be a lot of people that come to the same conclusion as the gentleman above.
Never underestimate the Republicans innate ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
It’s their superpower.
I’m just thinking about how fun it would if the Blue Wave turned into a Red Wave. I would have to invest in popcorn futures.
FYI: Conagra (NYSE: CAG) owns Orville Redenbacher.

And this is a big reason why I’m homeschooling our kids. The repercussions would not end well for anyone involved, likely including myself, if I caught a school admin strip searching my daughter. Better to just remove my children from that possibility and the entire concept of in loco parentis.
Strip searching is an extreme example, but there’s a thousand smaller examples of intrusions parents bring up that would have my ass down there raining verbal hell down on the admin or teacher. Which would inevitably end in my kid leaving the school anyway. Better to just to begin with that.
I think in loco parentis, when combined with compulsory education, is one of the absolute worst concepts implemented in American history (just down below slavery and conscription).
in loco parentis is just necessary. Minors can’t be responsible for their actions in the same way adults can. The limits of that doctrine should certainly be more strict, but the idea that no adult can be given temporary, limited guardianship of children is a bridge too far for me. Otherwise anytime a teacher puts a gentle hand on the shoulder of a 10 year old to walk them out of a room after being asked, they risk legal action. That’s not a good place to be, either.
It’s the combination with compulsory education that I have the biggest problem with. The government forcibly taking your kids away under threat of force and putting them under control of a government agent who has legal protection to do mostly as they please.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with a parent voluntarily ceding temporary guardianship of their own free will. I wouldn’t do that for a typical public school teacher anymore than for your typical San Francisco hobo flinging shit, but I’d be willing to for the right person. Besides college acceptance, I’d imagine the teachers are a major reason parents sacrifice to send their kids to private schools when possible.
In loco parentis is generally a relic of an older era… when communication was difficult and had a long lead time… Today?… you may sequester a minor.. It is different with cell phones and all of the technology that brings in the actual parents/guardians. You want to search them.. nope.. I will be there and approve or deny a search.. with the authority of the actual parent. You want legal repercussions, (not just administrative?)… no.. FYTY.
The system should now have a bias of “tried to find the true guardians”.. but couldn’t… not … “we have all of the authority”..
They are asserting they have absolute authority, due to the totality of the circs…. I say no. that is from a bygone era.
And I think this is a totally fair revision of the doctrine. I am not defending the Thomas view of absolute ceding of parental authority. It should always be the minimum authority necessary to ensure the safety of the minor in their care. The point remains that at every moment, an adult MUST have some ability to restrict the actions of children given into their care. I don’t think the daycare should be allowed to spank my children (they can’t) but I do understand if they have to hold my three year old to keep him from flailing around.
If I were a parent with children in school, I’m not, all of our children are grown up and moved out. But if I was, there is no way in hell I would send them to public schools. And I don’t give one shit about how expensive it might be, keeping them out of public school would be mission number one on my priority list.
My son saved the school admin the necessity of a strip search about a week before graduation by streaking bareass down the hall. My work phone was ringing within minutes. The superintendent assured me that he would graduate. “We don’t want him back”. I had a number of visits with those nice folks before my kids got out of school.
I’d run for the school board to keep that guy in his job.
“The Fifth Circuit picks a fight with Clarence Thomas. ”
What does Clarence Thomas have to do with it?
In a SC case Safford Unified School District #1 v. Redding, which was a case where administrators OK a strip search on a 13yo girl, looking for ibuprofen. Thomas was the lone dissenter, who wrote “Judges are not qualified to second-guess the best manner for maintaining quiet and order in the school environment,”. Furthermore, “Redding would not have been the first person to conceal pills in her undergarments,” he wrote. “Nor will she be the last after today’s decision, which announces the safest place to secrete contraband in school.”
Ibuprofen?
As the ice-hearted bitch in Frozen sings: Let. It. Go.
OK, thanks.
Also, ibuprofen, really? WTF.
Ya, you know kids, man. Slingin’ Prof night and day. Night and Day.
I won’t say sorry, and I will do as you ask. My best to you and your family.
Thanks. Everyone was more than kind to us on Monday. Go hug someone you love. That’s what Harry would want.
What?
Of all the comments to Gilmore…
I picked up an LG Portable Air conditioner just in time for the heat wave. I’m giving it a test run right now, and it’s amazing.
I’m considering going back to Home Depot to buy 2 more, and then…. PRICE GOUGE
I’ve not had good luck with LG appliances (fridge and washer). Hope yours is better.
My washer and dryer work well. But I got the 10 year warranty just in case.
My washer & dryer are LG. I’ve had them 9 years and no problems.
Yep. Other than the one time a baby sock blocked the drain pump, I’ve had no problems.
They’re handsome too. I wish I had stacked them.
I’m having a countertop installed over mine so I can iron and fold in the laundry room. I couldn’t do that if they were stacked.
I fold on the bed in the master BR. Laundry for 5; wouldn’t be enough counter space.
I wouldn’t mind a floor to ceiling cabinet for all of my cleaners…. I have a lot, and they’re scattered in cabinets throughout the house.
Knowing what you’re using, here you go:
http://eagle-mfg.com/product/Metal-Acid-Corrosive-Safety-Cabinet-60-Gal-Blue-Two-Door-Self-Close-.aspx
I had the motor or something with the drum go out, but was fixed under warranty. Other than taking forever to wash & dry compared to pre-HE crap, no real complaints here either. Does get that HE smell & the pump filter will clog up quickly if not cleaned regularly.
Get a box of trisodium phosphate at Home Depot, and add a teaspoon or 2 to each load. Same with the dishwasher.
Phosphate-free detergent? Not anymore!
I’ll have to look into that. We do leave the door open, not just cracked, but open about 1/2 way, but between the rubber door seal and whatever water remains in the drain line, it still develops the smell.
It works great and it’s cheap, cheap, cheap.
Sodium phosphate will fix that.
The shit in your drain line is pretty much the same stuff that you would find at the bottom of a pond. Same organic decomp smell too.
The phosphates will help it drain out with the water.
Pro tip for preventing “that smell” leave the door propped open with the core from a roll of paper towels.
Someone at Kenmore took the time & effort to engineer in a little kickstand/door-prop for mine.
I had a guy out last year to repair my 23 year old Maytag drier.
He told me to never get rid of it (all steel body).
We’ve replaced 10-15 year old washer, dryer and refrigerator with Samsung. Damned expensive but very happy so far with the quality.
Portable air conditioners are proof that human ingenuity is the most powerful force in the universe.
I had no idea what I was missing.
How is noise? That’s always been a downside from having all of the “guts” inside the house.
58db. Fan is louder than the compressor.
I’m getting central AC, but not for a few months. I’m very pleased with this as a temporary solution. It works at least twice as well as I thought it would, and I haven’t even sealed the exhaust ducts yet. They’re leaking a little bit of hot air right now.
Which model?

It’s on sale in store. Hundred bucks off.
Not carried in stores around here, so no discount. Dammit.
Yeah, made me look too. I’m also out of luck.
They probably have an equivalent sale in your region. These are fresh off the boat; came through the port of Long Beach a week ago.
It looks like an oversized paper-shredder. Nevertheless, when you get your central AC installed, sell it to me!
I’ll give you the deal that you deserve.
Orlando has fireworks everyday, but last night was epic. I can’t guess how many thousand of dollars of ordinance went off yesterday.
I’m sorry, is Slavery Black Culture or White Culture?
I think it’s a universally human thing. Everyone had slaves/were slaves at one point in history.
Yes. All of us. Both. Get over it.
Current or historic?
Speaking of Florida, Cigar City showed up here over the last week or so. Thanks to you people I knew to bring Jai Alai yesterday. The crowd went wild!
I had some Jai Alai yesterday when we when go cart racing.
Exchange one when for went.
Well, this ties together nicely. Fireworks and democrats.
Eric Garcetti, mayor of Los Angeles and presidential hopeful, tweeted on July 3rd reminding people that fireworks are illegal in LA.
Video of Los Angeles last night just after sunset.
That’s awesome, I was very disappointed in my neighbors this year. Last year I sat on my roof and watched at least a dozen ‘freelance’ pyrotechnic displays, this year I only saw four.
I did some totally legal chemistry experiments for the neighborhood kids last night.
My wife pointed out that I was probably too drunk to be doing what I was doing, and she was right. For once, I listened.
Indeed, beautiful.
Fuck the fireworks haters.
Will probably be better next year, more people will be doing 4-day weekends.
And some are calling for a complete ban on fireworks – professional shows as well. The Nanny State As we say, there is no such thing as peek derp.
I have many negative things to say about my hometown, but the Sunset of SF does know how to break the law on Independence Day. This was two blocks from my house for about 30 minutes last nite.
https://imgur.com/gallery/hyzZXap
That’s awesome. We did a big celebration for several years until it got too big. The last year, we spent $1,200 on an aerial show shot off on the driveway, and that was wholesale prices. It looked like downtown Beirut the next morning.
The best way to blow money up is to blow it up.
Want to know where being a useful idiot gets you? It gets you here.
Oops
You know, back in my time, a 30 year old assaulting a 16 year old kid would most likely get you a well deserved old fashion ass whooping, no need to involve the cops.
Yeah, that’s when the 16 year old’s dad gets involved and beats the living daylights out of the 30 year old. Or the 16 year old and his friends pay dude a visit one night outside his home and play home run derby with his knees.
“if you’re under 18 you won’t be doing any tiyiyime”
#ComeOutAndPlay
Sadly, if this had happened in Berkeley, the cops would probably be doing nothing and the restaurant would be giving the assailant free food for life.
dude’s already been fired from his job at a bar. https://heavy.com/news/2018/07/rumble-san-antonio-maga-hat-attack/

Kudos to the bar and to the Green Party for their actions.
I find it amusing that the 4chan autists identified him almost immediately.
It’s like invoking a mystical power using a Ouija board.
They can find anything and anyone. The NSA should hire them
They truly deserve the title of AIA Autist Intelligence Agency.
no need to involve the cops
Maybe not, but my heart certainly doesn’t bleed for the guy. I mean, you don’t get a more blatant violation of the NAP than that. And, really, whatever the cops do is going to pale in comparison to what I’d be inclined to do if the kid were a relative of mine.
You note the look on the faces of the teens that were with him? Congrats, dems, you just recruited some future voters there, great job, keep it up.
“no need to involve the cops”
I disagree. That’s assault. If the State wants to let us take care of assholes like this ourselves which I would prefer anyways, then I’m totally down with not involving the cops. That’s not the case though. His actions probably don’t warrant a below ground permanent resting place, but I can at least cost him some time and money.
ground permanent resting place
Anytime the cops are involved it’s possible.
is the guy assaulting the kids white? i can’t tell. The ‘white people calling other white people ‘nigga” – thing always struck me as extremely yokel/guido/white-trash thing. Not really a juiced-up SJW thing.
i suppose my question is already answered. that’s fucking hilarious – within like 12 hours of the guy doing his dumb-shit move, there’s already an article called,
5 Fast Facts You Need to Know about that random guy in that video
I prey to god i never do anything that ‘goes viral’.
At what point does society reach the point of “everybody’s done something”, and the pendulum starts to swing the other way?
Meh, I don’t think everyone has stolen a teenagers hat and and poured a drink on them.
Although honestly, when I was a kid, if some random dude had come up to a group of my friends and done that…..shit would be on. I ain’t saying we were tough kids or anything, but if I had four friends with me, I would have gotten my fucking hat back I can tell you that.
Bad gas travels fast.
That is one punchable face.
I am guessing low IQ with mental health issues.
That’s as dumb as blaming Sarah Palin for the assault of Gabrielle Giffords. In both cases I think I’ll blame the guy who actually committed the assault.
Brett, I wouldnt have TresCool Version 2.0 if it wasnt for Crown Royal. If you move to blended Canadian whiskey, Id urge extreme caution. And a condom.
For a blended, I prefer the Chivas 18.
Does it double as spermicide? THAT woulda been handy…
I don’t know, it’s smooth as hell and my wife can’t get preggie, so it’s all good.
WINNAH/WINNAH
I think Clarence gets a little hot under the collar thinking about kids getting their undies searched for Advil.
Either that or he’s so opposed to public education that he’s attempting to kill it by giving it enough rope to hang itself.
I got no other explanation.
the 5th Circuit did find the strip search of 22 girls unreasonable.
Interesting that the requirement for “particular description” applies to places searched, not persons. It only requires particular description of a person to be seized (arrested). On a strict reading, the Constitution does not require a particular description of a person who is going to be searched but not arrested.
So I think you fall back on “unreasonable”, which is pretty slippery and even though it is supposed to signal an “objective” standard, is pretty damned subjective in application, in the classic “I knows it when I sees it” formula. So, if strip searching 22 girls to find $50 makes you say “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me”, its unreasonable. If it doesn’t, you need help.
Yeah, “unreasonable” and the militia clause are my top two edits when I perfect that erotica-powered time machine.
Reading the story though, the whole “upon probable cause” is totally missing. $50 was missing – no reason to believe it was stolen, or that any of the students – boys or girls – had stolen it.
Well it was a good excuse to feel up a bunch of young girls. That’s an old OMWC trick. Who took my $50 bill?
” “particular description” applies to places searched, not persons.”
My asshole can be particularly described.

Soy. Boy.
Best response: “What a waste of the name Thor.”
Blue Wave, yep, I totally believe it
Lol.
I get a little kick out of Ben Mankiewicz, the only YT with a real gig elsewhere.
An interesting YouTube vid featuring a couple guys walking through a Chinese ghost city and critiquing the construction.

Lean tos in Brazilian favelas are built better than these places.
They just built a couple of single family homes near me and the wife and I drove by there a couple of days ago. They want 400K for these houses on tiny lots. We stopped outside of one and I immediately spotted all sorts of problems on just the interior front! It;s like some of the sloppiest shit I have ever seen, all sorts of ugly stuff in just the siding, gutters, brickwork, my god, WTF? I can’t even imagine what you would see if you peeked under the hood. No, just hell no.
Well that’s what happens when Trump deports all the Mexicans…
Yeah, I’m sure that’s why every time I take a walk past there, none of the workers speak English.
It’s always Irish-bashing with you people!
I love in an area where they’re building small neighborhood after small neighborhood of garbage houses that are mostly purchased by retirees from up north. They won’t be standing in 20 years.
Eh, the retirees will be dead by then.
What do you mean you found problems? The building inspector passed them, so they’re perfectly good!
Interesting dissection of yellow fever & reverse by the same duo.
Just had a strange thing happen on our visit to the Bella Meade plantation. In the gift shop, a lovely black woman who works there began to chat up my wife (earlier we had purchased something and she had asked where we were from – I guess my muppet hair gave us away – so I wonder if that sparked it). She was saying stuff like ‘it’s important to know this was one plantation among many’ (as if we were retarded and ignorant enough to think this was the only one) and that ‘not all were this comfortable.’ Okay, thanks lady. I actually thought for one second you were an actual slave. It was a weird vibe because I got the sense she was waging her own private war against people who visited lest they get the ‘wrong impression’ of the grounds. In reality it’s just a ‘ah, cool. Interesting let’s go buy shit and go eat’ sort of thing I reckon for most. She also offered a non-sequitur of how ‘75% of Americans can’t pay rent’ and how too many people don’t live well in America. Gee, thanks for the socio-economic synopsis Debbie Downer. Get off the MCNBC/DNC plantation – excuse the pun?
My wife asked me if that was true about the 75%. I asked her to go with her logical hunch and to think that through.
Then I took the opportunity to tell a bunch of racist jokes.
Did you leave out the part where you invite her to Canada, and promise to sponsor her?
Lol. My jokes were along those lines. My wife was in stitches.
+1 underground railroad
I think people who work places often begin to think that working there makes them “experts”. They might know more than the visitors about the place they work, but its doubtful they know more ‘in general’.
I worked @ REI as a kid, and i had only done like 2-3 outward-bound/NOLS type trips, but i often found myself lecturing grown men (dads) on my outdoorsy-expertise.
every now and then i’d meet some dude and realize, “actually i don’t know shit” because he’d look at me like, “please” and i’d realize he’d probably been up Denali 3 times or spent months living in the jungle with nothing but a knife and spool of thread.
just saying, people develop a certain hubris when they’re put in a position of ‘tour guide’/authority, and sometimes their cup runneth over.
It had a bit too much of a ‘preachy zeal’ to it. That’s when my inner-humour kicks in.
I told my wife she should have said once she was done, ‘why do you work here?”
You didn’t throw in “you should see all the free shit we get in Canada! But gasoline is still $10/gallon.”
And by the way, she was totally talking to the wrong person. My wife was very concerned about choosing between the ‘Stand by your mandarine’ and ‘I walk the lime’ soaps.
I like to tell wop jokes too.
I’m not familiar with that term.
Other than that, I actually met up with Nephilium during the fireworks. So that was nice.
The odds of that happening were stacked against us but we pulled it off.
I’m like that with the Mick jokes.
Those who were claiming that cussing is just a crutch for comics a few days ago, here’s a <a href="https://twitter.com/senatorshoshana/status/1014927847369183232" title="If you read that and don't at least smirk you are one humorless

butchered that, here
Barton’s distillery collapsed:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/barton-1792-distillery-collapse-today-latest-updates-2018-07-04/
It did, A week ago……..
where it is that I heard about it/………….
oh yea…..
This is an update: the rest of the structure collapsed.
And the fuckwits in the government want to cite the distillery for not informing the state quickly enough.
I predict a premium on the barrels that survive.
So, been wondering about this a while – outside of the “diet” beers that advertise themselves as lo-cal….how do you actually know the calorie count for a normal beer – ie. a 12% Belgian or just a plain Yuengling? Seems they’d want to advertise it…unless the numbers are so ridiculous that they’d make me swear off carbs for good.
Any sites that break it down? The review sites don’t seem to have any info like that.
i heard that wasn’t allowed, because People would realize it’s food, Seriously
But wouldn’t the nanny states force it to be labeled just like sticking them up at a fast food restaurant? Hard to see how this would get an exception from those jagoffs – frankly I’m just curious since I like to “attempt” to count my calories.
It should say on the bottle. If not, go to beer advocate.
I did the calculation for ABV calories on Sculpin vs Dorado. Sculpin is 7%, Dorado 10%.
Sculpin is 230 Calories per 12oz, Dorado is 300 calories per 12oz. At 7 calories per gram, the 3% increase in ABV accounts for all of those extra calories, so Dorado is a more efficient beer.
Of course, if you’re really counting calories, drink liquor.
Or don’t drink at all, but that’s not realistic.
I got a warning letter from my doc about my A1C, so a dry-spell may be in my near future.
Just think, someday those warnings will come with the food you’re dispensed, like the cigarette dispenser in Fifth Element.
That is a film that bears multiple rewatchings just to see the amazing things the Art Department did.
I’ve never seen it on any bottle outside Michelob Lite.
Might be missing it, but I don’t think it’s on the list of info at BA.
Where on the Bottle? never seen it on any except Mich ultra, and nothing at BA
try this, it doesn’t get em all though,

150 is like the norm/average for a domestic lager. 100 is ‘lite’, or what many lighter beers can hover around (e.g. weiss beers)
300 is on the super high end (e.g. Dragon Stout from jamaica was once known as king of high-cal beers. they tend to be dark & syrupy)
the thing that surprises people is that the ‘regular vs. lite’ isn’t all that significant; there’s far more variation within ‘premium domestic’ and ‘variants of lite beer’ than there is between the averages of one and the others.
Sounds reasonable. I’d definitely have expected Guiness and Sam Adams to be reversed though.
Its sort of a common thing for people to associate “dark” with more caloric/alcoholic
that’s not really how it works. alcohol content+high-cal can often go together, but they don’t have to. Guinness can actually quite ‘light’ in both cals and alcohol, depending on where/how you get it (draught vs. bottle vs. can).
same is true w/ coffee, fwiw. people assume starbucks is more ‘caffinated’. its less so than an equivalent Maxwell House or Folgers. the ‘bitter/strong’ taste has no connection to caffeine (longer-roasting reduces the oilyness of the beans and the caf. content) Dunkin or Mc D’s coffee has way more caf. than the average Sbux beverage.
there are online tools to appoximate it.
A 12 oz Yuengling traditional lager is 128 calories, according to the bottle I just grabbed from my fridge. Not sure if the calories are printed on the cans though.
My 12 oz Yuengling Traditional Lager has absolutely nothing resembling a calorie count on it anywhere on the bottle or the 6 pack packaging. What state do you live in?
Pennsylvania. Don’t think it’s a regional thing, but who knows? My bottles of angry orchard also have the calories printed in them. 200, if you’re curious. Which, combined with the Yuengling, makes me think my penchant for snakebites may be an explanation for my waistline.
Everything “alcohol” is regulated by states
that said, i can’t remember whether NLEA included alcohol and trumped prohi-era laws. i don’t think it did, and if there’s been any change, its either voluntary or somehow slipped past me.
(quick look)
So its not in NLEA.
Vox, those assholes, seem to have addressed it, and its what i thought
So its “voluntary”, and probably varies by state.
I fucking hate CSPI
How dare you voxsplain to me.
Because I know you all were asking for it.

Major SuperHero? So you can just make shit up and people buy into it?
Have you listened to Democrat politicians lately?
As a rule, I never touch myself in an impure fashion to anime, hentai, or any cartoon.
I may have to re-think that.
But a good job embarrassing and humiliating fat women everywhere. Now they’ll be called Faith in addition to Shamu. Liberals. So daft.
2010.
I’ll give you a pass this time, Brett, but don’t fuck up again.
Its not my day for trivia.
I gave Brett a pass for today, but thank you.
Finally hit 100 here, index of 105, and I have done ONE call today, I should be busy Tomorrow and this weekend though, Friday at 111+/- and 107 Saturday.
How many Calories in a 25oz Cobra! I got 4
Ed Schultz died? I blame RT.
I put down maybe 4/5 a bottle of rum in celebration of the third. I finished off the bottle for a night cap on the fourth. Now here it is a dry, parched fifth…
Bernie has a message for you.
I liked the sidebar article: “Kamala Harris Reiterates Strong Support For Separating Families At Border Of Birth Canal”
That is good. When did Christians get so good at satire?
I read a few issues of the Wittenburg Door back in high school, but frankly that was weak sauce compared to this stuff: https://babylonbee.com/news/report-millennials-more-open-to-socialism-touching-hot-stove-sticking-face-in-sack-full-of-badgers/
Yeah, thats good stuff
WD will live forever based on their take down of Mike Warnke alone.
I vaguely recall that name from some old cornerstone magazines, but that’s about it.
Hmm, might have been Cornerstone which took him down: http://www.answers.org/satan/warnke1.html
According to Wikipedia, it was Cornerstone.
And according to Wikipedia, Cornerstone was founded by a group called “Jesus People USA”.
Dang, badgers are kinda cute. Do they make good pets like raccoons?
President Teddy Roosevelt had a pet badger named Josiah while he was in the white house. Quote: “whose temper was short but whose nature was fundamentally friendly.”
So, maybe?
That’s great:).
I’ve been working on a short piece of fiction. Think, write, bounce idea off friend, rewrite. Usually works for me, but this time I keep changing my mind about how the story should end. Frustrating. Trust my friend or trust my gut feeling?
End it with STEVE SMITH raping the main character(s).
“And they all lived happily ever after.”
“this beds too soft!”
/STEVE SMITH enters
This stool is too hard.
Late to this thread. Trust your gut feeling – but you already know that.
From Singapore to the US, overseas Chinese are increasingly fearful of criticising Beijing. Is this what China wants?
“These kind of Orwellian-style scenes may be common in China nowadays. Over the past couple of years, students have snitched on several professors for “improper discussions” and the professors ended up losing their jobs. Bloggers critical of the government have been reported on and had their content censored; some were even interrogated.”
Yes, it’s what China wants.
The Japanese version of trailer trash is sitting across from me at the coffee shop right now. Taking your shoes off and sitting lotus style while chain smoking at Dotour coffee is cool.
Be careful if he asks you to ‘snatch pebble from hand’.
At least they allow smoking.
Yes, I was in an izakaya (pub) in Japan 2 years ago and got blasted with smoke. It must be close to 20 years since the last time that happened to me in the US. Immediately reminded me of my younger days. They note how smell and memory are closely linked.
I’m happy about it, but obviously it should be the bar owner’s choice and not the state’s.
Yep. Let’s start by not adding more to the list banned substances.
It is actually pretty stupid that people not only protested this, but that it got shut down. There is a pretty clear difference between ‘traditional’ blackface and having whites play roles as if black people (and vice verse). I also like the complete historical illteracy of the people protesting.
“Even the title, “Slav,” attracted ire, with black activist Marilou Craft musing in Urbania, a cultural magazine, that it evoked an upmarket spa while erasing black suffering.”
Your musings are little better than the droppings from a rat.
“We are told we must go beyond a ‘racial’ interpretation of this work, but these songs are born of racism,” he wrote. Nicolas Ouellet, 30, a Quebecer with Senegalese origins, who hosts a cultural radio show on Radio Canada, said that “Slav” had aroused passions, in part because there were so few black voices and faces represented in Quebec popular culture.
“As a kid growing up here I thought I had no chance of working in the cultural arena as I heard so few black voices on TV, radio or at the theater,” he said. “I don’t understand why the production didn’t make more of an effort to find a more multicultural cast. It seems lazy.””
“More multicultural” The cast was 2/7ths black. In Canada. Which is like 3% black. Not sure this guy knows what multicultural means, except the newspeak definition meaning no whites.
It is actually pretty stupid that people not only protested this, but that it got shut down. There is a pretty clear difference between ‘traditional’ blackface and having whites play roles as if black people (and vice verse).
Over on another board, somebody referred to You Only Live Twice, and the “cringeworthy sight of Connery made up in yellowface”, which misses why he was in yellowface. I wonder what the poster thinks of Silver Streak.
My thoughts jumped to Hamilton
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_(musical)
Indeed, I think they mention it in the link as well.
