It’s just about the last Sunday of football (with, we hope, two interesting games), SP and I are celebrating an anniversary in style (fondue and a 30 year old Vouvray), and there’s all sorts of news of the weird. Let’s run down a few examples of the last:
One gratifying change in news coverage of the soi disant “shutdown”: the media are actually treating “shutdown theater” as the stupid symbolism that it is. Could a tiny bit of the cynicism that led most of us to libertarianism be infecting the Fourth Estate? I dearly hope so. Would it be sustainable in a Team Blue-controlled government? Not a chance. Nonetheless, “shutdown theater” is, once again, in full swing.
If any of us little people were under court order to preserve evidence and we “accidentally” destroyed it, what do you think would happen? Look up “spoliation of evidence” to see. But what if you’re the NSA? Think that negative inference and jail time for contempt will hit any of their officials? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! On any of the issues that matter, we once again have proof that there’s no fucking difference between Team Red and Team Blue, it’s all Team Leviathan.
Yesterday, we were treated to the latest versions of the amusingly pointless Women’s March. And delightfully (at least for those of us with healthy doses of misanthropy), the Peoples’ Judean Front has a problem with the Peoples’ Front for Judea.
You know what never gets old? Florida Man stories. And this one might be my all-time favorite.
Important Medical News that everyone must share with their SO. Unless your SO is your right hand, in which case, never mind.
Complete non-sequitur: I heard a discussion on the radio a few days ago about the Best Sports Movie of All Time. The usual suspects were brought forth, but no-one mentioned mine. So I’ll throw it out here because it’s timely: It Happens Every Spring. Discuss.
No-one is safe from Old Man music. NO-ONE. And this week, we’re talkin’ flugelhorn and scat by the very best at both.
Government shutdown.
Thank you for the morning gafaw, I shall be reusing this.
Also, I am a government employee (and am damned ashamed to admit it!). We had a meeting to address concerns about the shut down on Friday. Nobody was concerned, if anything there was a sense of elation like the day before an extended vacation. Everyone knows they will be back paid for the time they didn’t work. The only people looking worried are the idiots whom live paycheck to paycheck whom will not be able to cover bills until the deposits start showing up again.
I get to go into work on Monday …. so I can sign a piece of paper saying I won’t do any work until I get told otherwise.
So the only piece of good news is, unless the Democrats agree to do otherwise, McConnell is going to force a vote Monday at 1 am EST.
I’m not going to be furloughed so I’ll get to sit at work with a few other people in the building goofing off and doing little make work, ‘spruce thing up’ types of tasks….hurray for public servants!!!!
*I wasn’t a libertarian until I worked for the government for a few years
Government servants or state servants, not public servants.
If people (especially the elected officials) want to be called public servants, then they need to act like the hired help. The proper title for them is “boy” or “girl”.
Although you said it in a weird way with very sexual undertones, I get what you’re saying.
I too hate the term “public servant” with a passion. It’s not like these people gave up a life of wealth, power, and supra-legal privilege – that IS the life they get through becoming a government worker.
And what, are companies like Amazon somehow not serving you? Are you not receiving a service that improves your life? Shit, many things the government does are a disservice.
It was working for The Party in Airstrip One that turned me into a rational anarchist.
I subsequently grew up a bit and adopted minarchism.
I have scheduled overtime to do a technical eval at 3am tomorrow….thinking just stay home.
All those of you who are going to be paid eventually anyway, can just put your shoulders behind those carts trundling through the streets picking up the bodies from the tax cut, net neutrality, the shutdown, and whatever else hit women and children the hardest.
V is for verisimilitude.
Brutal.
Does The Orange Head also puke out guns? It should puke out guns, that crowd looks in need of cleansing.
Feel free. Make it a group effort.
You know who else made cleansing a group effort?
Scrubbing bubbles?
Prison showers?
ISIS?
The military in Starship Troopers?
Verisimilitude.
?
Vacuum.
This should be common knowledge. I am ashamed for everyone here that you even had to point this out.
I just assume that most of these people live in their own filth, and have never seen a vacuum.
*sniffs armpit
But when Samantha Monckton and the other national organizers of Canada’s Women’s Marches began making plans to form a board of directors, they were informed by the coordinators of the flagship march in Washington D.C. that they would need to formally apply for the positions they essentially already held at an organization they created.
Team “You Didn’t Build That” strikes again!
Hey Sisters, do you even IP?
It’s all about the Benjamins
It’s all about control.
There’s some good libertarian schadenfreude to be had about a ‘grassroots’ protest getting tied up in IP issues.
Women’s March, Inc
Why can’t I stop laughing at this?
The whole article is delightful. Solidarity forever…!
Keep corporations out of politics!!!
Is Black Lives Matter, Inc taken yet?
It’s just about the last Sunday of football (with, we hope, two interesting games), SP and I are celebrating an anniversary in style (fondue and a 30 year old Vouvray),
Speaking of football and fondue….
We’ll try to be more careful- SP really splurged on the cheese and we’d hate to waste any.
Serious question from a non-cork-dork that likes Vouvray- does Vouvray get better with age, or is that 30 year old vintage especially good?
It depends. Your typical industrial Vouvray is best drunk very young. But get something like a Pinon, Bedif, Foreau, or Huet, and it will outlive you. Great Vouvray at the doux or moelleux level shouldn’t be touched for at least twenty years, and can go about forever- I’ve had Huets from the 1920s that were still vibrant, fresh, and in no danger of sliding off the cliff.
So that’s the one you prefer, right?
Think apple juice.
OMWC, per yesterday and tubes, going to get my feet wet with the Monotone JM45 clone. They use power and output transformers from Mercury Magnetics and Heyboer (Heyboer does the clone of Partridge xformers detailed down to the spec for the iron mix in the plates). I figure that one first, then I plan to get the Ceriatone HeyWatt clone of the HiWatt DR 103 (using the Heyboer xformers). That and a few classes and books should get me where I need to be for designing my own using the tv sweep tubes you and LH recommended.
I just moved back to Austin after 20 years at Ft Bragg, and there is already interest from working musicians based on my intent to do this. Any good books I should be looking into? Bass and guitar amps for now, maybe hi-fi later… and thanks again to you both.
Dammit, Mojotone
Merlin Blencoe’s books on instrument amps are superb. For hints on construction, Morgan Jones’s “Building Valve Amplifiers” is the go-to.
We lived in Austin for a while- what a great place for music. One really fine guitarist to keep an eye out for is Scrappy Jud Newcomb. Of course the joke was that Austin had so many great musicians, you could be the lead guitarist in a band and still not get laid.
True, saw SRV a lot in the late 70s/early 80s before he was a big deal. I will never play that well, but i can do sound reinforcement/ engineering like mad, and make stuff with my hands… adding those titles/authors to my list.
Good thing the soon-to-be Mrs Bum has her cellular biology thing goung on, or id never be able to do tje groundwork for this full-time
How does autocorrect get goung from going? It isn’t even a word, and if it is, it shouldn’t be.
I don’t know if he still plays with them, but Scrappy used to play with the Resentments. a whole group of long time musicians that never “made it” but we’re amazing. They played the Saxon pub every Sunday night.
Used to see Ray Wylie Hubbard and Joe Ely there. This place has really changed since I’ve been gone.
Who else was in the band? There were a bunch of guys I saw him play with who were monstrously good but unknown. I’m lookin’ at YOU, Jon Greene and Tom Pearson!
The Saxon was fun- you used to be able to get delivery there from Katz’s. I remember seeing Oz Noy do a show there and everyone in his pick-up band looked oddly familiar. It suddenly hit me that the band was Double Trouble.
Not sure, but I remember partying at his bass player’s ranch house out towards Hamilton’s Pool in the 82-83 timeframe. Memory is a bit fuzzy from around then. I do know that a girl I went to HS (Westlake) with now owns it as a wedding venue that does B&B services for the wedding parties. She was shocked when I walked in there (2010), said the rec room was to the right, had the same old projection tv from the 80s, and the same black and white checkerboard tiles.i think the neighbor’s mule was around in the 80s as well…
Heh. I went to your high school. But it looks/sounds like I was just a bit after you*
*you’re old
Yeah, class of 84. Dad and mom were good for taking me to see the live music before I turned 18.
Bruce Hughes and John D Graham and one other guy
While I’m waxing nostalgic, I wonder if Whip In is still around. Two stages, fantastic beer selection, and excellent Tex-Indian food. Used to see James McMurtry play there.
When a problem comes along, you must whip in….
Honestly we have been slammed time wise since I moved back here. Renting a house north in Anderson Mill, her kids and grandkids birthdays almost weekly, and her getting ready for the FDA part of clinical trials with the bone graft matrix she is working on… so I haven’t gotten out much. This year looks to be more settled though, as long as I can make it through all of the VA appointments without blowing my top lol.
LifeCell?
PM, DiFusion Technologies
Last time I was south for any time, South park Meadows was still a field with concerts going on..
Tex-Indian?
*ponders the idea of green chili naan
It’s as good as it sounds. I have a Gujarati guy who works for me who says, “Indian food is Mexican plus garam masala,” and there’s some truth to that joke.
The last time I was there, they had maybe 30 beers on tap and a few hundred more in bottles; I’ve heard that they expanded since then.
“Indian food is Mexican plus garam masala,” and there’s some truth to that joke.
I found an Indian delivery place last year and that was the first time I really got into Indian food, so one time, I was all “why do I like this, how does it connect to the other cuisines I enjoy?”, bit of wiki later…
India spice-roaded their flavors through the middle east and on into Spain, which later carried it over to Mexico. So yeah, what I was tasting was Mexican with garam, and I loved it, lol.
Whip In is awesome and is the best place in south Austin to grab food and beer.
I don’t understand what you are saying. Can I still stand beside you, as if I did?
One photo showed him posing with a couple of department employees “heading out for final trash pickup” in advance of a planned women’s march on the Mall Saturday.
I’m too classy to tee off on that meatball.
CNN’s ticker continues on. Nobody cares.
Just going through the day to wait til 6:40. Fly Eagles Fly.
Up up to the sky.
Just watched “Fallen Angel” with Dana Andrews and Alice Faye. Directed by Otto Preminger. Nice piece of film noir. Speaking of nice pieces, Linda Darnell… Schwing!
Was that Muller’s pick today?
Who dat?
Eddie Muller, host of TCM’s Noir Alley Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM real time.
Muller’s choice today was Act of Violence, with Van Heflin as a WWII vet being stalked by Robert Ryan, and directed by Fred Zinnemann. Excellent movie.
Eddie Muller. The “Czar of Noir.” He provides pre- and post-showing commentary on a Noir film every Sunday Morning on TCM. The timing of your comment was about right for the movie to have recently ended so I assumed you were watching TCM.
Ah, I see. Sunday mornings I get into my Amazon video queue. Alot of bad film noir, 50’s-60’s horror/sci-fi, teen exploitation, 30’s-40’s screwball comedies, Roy Rogers films, etc.
I’m watching “Fire Maidensof Outer Space” right now. A real stinker. Brilliant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Maidens_from_Outer_Space
I’d recommend Darnell in No Way Out. She has a smaller role in a really interesting movie.
Added to the queue. Thanks.
Complete non-sequitur: I heard a discussion on the radio a few days ago about the Best Sports Movie of All Time. The usual suspects were brought forth, but no-one mentioned mine. So I’ll throw it out here because it’s timely: It Happens Every Spring. Discuss.
Easy Living, starring Victor Mature as a pro football player who’s going to have to retire because of a heart condition and Lizabeth Scott as his grasping wife isn’t the best but is underrated. And it’s got Lucille Ball in a dramatic role, which is always a big plus.
Sounds a little gold diggerish. On women’s march day. Shame.
Since I receive no explicit benefits from the federal government (no SS, no government cheese), how does a shutdown affect someone like me? Am I missing something obvious, or is all of the hand-wringing just political showmanship?
No, you hit the nailing on the head.
As someone pointed out in a prior Glibz thread, oddly enough your FICA deductions somehow remain in place.
You receive the “benefit” of regulations.
Hello! Muh roads!
Government checks don’t stop during a “shutdown.”
So I have a shoulder pain which fucks up my gym program – i did some exercise recommended by the trainer despite my better judgement- and now am trying a gel that is meant for horses – you only find it in veterinary pharmacies – but apparently is used more by humans than for animals. makes the skin rather tingly and my penis increased by 1 inch over night
Are you sure you’re using it correctly? Or do Romanians have their penii on their shoulder?
Penes.
It’s too early to be pedantly nitpicking bad jokes and wordplay. The wrong plural is objectively funnier, and got it within a horse salve of being actually funny.
Congratulations on your one-incher.
You might have a torn rotator cuff. (Ask me how I know.)
Im gonna suppose the salve you have contains DMSO (dimthyl sulfoxide). It works wonders, but you’re like me, you’ll have the odd side-effect of exuding a garlic-like fog. Despite currently having all the muscle tone of a sack of laundry, once upon a time I was very serious runner. We slopped that crap on every ache and pain. I think the brand was “Black Diamond”. I mentioned it to my GP once, and he cautioned against alcohol when using it. But YMMV.
You have to be VERY careful with DMSO. It’ll make things penetrate the skin that otherwise wouldn’t, and you can very easily end up poisoning yourself.
You don’t work out.
1 word: “sedentary”
Salting the sidewalks, fun morning activity.
you don ‘t sound to enthusiastic. Some people pay good money to salt the sidewalk.
Do the Earth next.
Can’t I just scorch it instead?
That actually works, but it takes a while.
But the important question is, do you get to make it a desert and call it peace?
Kosher salt or sea salt? 😉
Rock Salt.
These euphemisms.
Also speaking of inches I bought a 50 inch tv but now I think I should have bought a 55 … It was only 120 dollars extra
They have TV in Romania? I figured you guys just gathered around the big tube radio to hear the latest edition of Amazing Vampire Stories.
i actually use my tv as a giant monitor for my laptop… But this one is a smart tv so i will be able to netflix/youtube/watch pirated movies directly on the tv
So how’s the Romanian pr0n? It has vampires, right?
And lithe gymnasts.
These girls are clearly “essential employees” and will not be affected by the phony shutdown.

Bunkworthy, I must say.
One gratifying change in news coverage of the soi disant “shutdown”: the media are actually treating “shutdown theater” as the stupid symbolism that it is. Could a tiny bit of the cynicism that led most of us to libertarianism be infecting the Fourth Estate? I dearly hope so.
I think it has more to do with the media protecting the image of their DNC overlords. When Team Red causes a shutdown it’s because they want wymen, minorities and babies to die. When Team Blue does it it’s all just theater.
Damn it I suck at html….OMWC’s words were supposed to be in italics

LOL
how does a shutdown affect someone like me?
I’m pretty sure the roads will all have crumbled into dust, and reverted to wagon tracks across the prairie. Also, when Kim launches his ballistic missiles, nobody will be there to see them coming. Your paper money will be worthless, and yo9u’ll have o barter for sustenance.
Jeez, between this and net neutrality, Trump will have us living in the 70s again. Where’s Jan Michael Vincent when you need him.
He’s in Quadrant 16.
Is it important that we know who Jan Michael Vincent was in order to get this?
“One gratifying change in news coverage of the soi disant “shutdown”: the media are actually treating “shutdown theater” as the stupid symbolism that it is.”
Only because Democrats did it.
My friend works for the gov and won’t get OT taking staples out of forms. Bodies in the streets I tell ya.

Lick the jar. Maybe it will give you a tongue like a giraffe.
‘“Today is a terrible day,” she intoned. “A terrible day for the millions of working families in this country. . . . A terrible day for millions of people who just want to get on with their lives and not have Congress cost them even more money.”’
OK Fauxcahontas. This isn’t even the “not taking is giving” argument, it’s the “not taking is taking” argument. I knew she was stupid but this is over the top…

I wonder if people like that ever realize what they’re fighting for always turns to shit. And if they do, do they ever change?
Leftists are always wrong, always have been, always will be. Therefore, they can never admit they are wrong.
It doesn’t turn to shit for them. They become fabulously wealthy. It’s just the rest of us that suffer.
Question is, does she have enough stupid followers to take her “up” even further in politics?
If she wants to move up on the national scene, probably not. I don’t think she’ll have many supporters outside of Massachusetts, NYC, and certain parts of California.
If she wanted to move to the Massachusetts Governor’s office, I think she could do it.
I think she has some problems with her ‘people’.
Um, yeah, I get why she is being so stubborn in this. If she admits that she simply made all this shit up, she is going to be in deep shit. She’ll have to admit she got that cushy job by lying about being a minority.
BTW, why would those clowns who hired her at Harvard not ask for some proof? If I was told that I’d be interviewing an Indian and her white ass showed up, I’d expect at least some proof.
Self-employed single people, who are many of those who create the jobs in the country, don’t count as “working families”.
Thats hilarious, given that as a senator she could just advocate voting for the house budget if funding the government was her greatest concern.
“A terrible day for millions of people who just want to get on with their lives and not have Congress cost them even more money.”
Let me guess: she means the exact opposite of what she’s saying here.
I think this is parody. It *has* to be parody. Otherwise I’m going to down a whole bottle of rotgut and pass out in a snowbank.
http://reductress.com/post/this-womans-sex-fantasy-is-for-her-boyfriend-to-pay-her-student-debt-and-then-die/
Abortion Barbie clung to her husband until he paid her student debt, then ditched him. So I don’t doubt such people exist.
I know a guy who’s wife filed for divorce immediately upon completion of her college education (which his GI Bill paid for in full). She was at least smart enough to keep her gold-digging a secret until she got what she wanted. The bitch in the article isn’t even smart enough to conceal her bad intentions. If this is real, congrats feminists, you have truly shown us how powerful women are.
I seriously considered a prenup when I got married. I think that if I were ever to be in a position to get married again (hopefully not), I’d insist on one.
It’s an awkward thing to discuss I’m sure (*still single and probably going to stay that way) but it really does make a ton of sense. A friend of mine is getting married this year and she is insisting on one that expires after 5 years which I think is probably smart
That’s a good compromise. One downside of prenups is what is happening with my wife’s grandmother. She has a prenup with her 2nd husband because she had a significant amount of money from when her first husband died. Almost 30 years later they’re still operating separate finances. She’s doing fine, but he’s struggling to make his money last (he’s in his mid 80s and she’s in her late 70s). It has ended up putting a ton of strain on the family because she gets to call all the shots and his side of the family gets treated like 2nd class citizens at times. My wife and her sisters and cousins couldn’t care less about whether the money is separated. Maybe their parents’ generation has a stronger opinion, but my wife’s generation sees it as somewhat cruel to their step-grandfather that he’s not really being treated as an equal, despite being a part of the family for almost their entire lives.
Putting a sunset period (or an opt-out) into the prenup seems like a good idea.
You can just do what I did. Stay together for 16 years BEFORE getting married. It’s the only way to be sure….
Married in 3 weeks or GTFO!
I think after 16 years, I’d have a hard time justifying a wedding in my mind. I’d be quite tempted to leave well enough alone. Granted, the law don’t care… after 16 years, you’re probably common law married, so she’s getting all your stuff anyway.
No way man. I get all her stuff. I’m a liberal arts dude and she’s a mechanical engineering professor.
What’s in it for her?
She gets the most thoughtful birthday presents.
Err, if I were getting married and my bride-to-be was insisting on an expiration date on the pre-nup, I’d call that wedding off right away and tell her to find someone else.
Our kids don’t have a choice while we’re alive. We just rewrote our wills so that in the event of them marrying, they are sole beneficiaries of our estate. It’s becoming quite common. Of course, there’s nothing saying they can’t dissolve the trusts, reap the proceeds and put it in their general asset pool, We’re getting it set up now so that it’s a “known quantity” if they develop relationships that are “going somewhere”, so a prenup (1) won’t be a nasty surprise, (2) doesn’t look like a response to us disliking the spouse-to-be and (3) gets our kids considering the idea of a prenup.
Your kids are going to marry each other?
Kentucky?
One of my wife’s girlfriend and her siblings lost the family’s long time Jersey shore house when her father re-married and neglected to protect the
title to the shore house. He died shortly thereafter and new wife got the home and forbids any of her step children to set foot in it.
Unless you have Clarence Darrow write your pre-nup, the family court will rip it up and use as toilet paper.
I’m not a huge MRA guy, but the family courts have pretty much gutted the value of the pre-nup.
Bingo. Mine was tossed out of a California divorce court. “The terms are contrary to public policy” was, I think, the phrase used. Translation: the “no alimony” part means that the state might have to pay my ex welfare.
“The terms are contrary to public policy”
Land of the free!
Holy shit, that’s worse than I ever imagined.
The whole concept of compulsory alimony is bullshit. It’s not 1850; women can get any job that a man can get.
And since when is it someone’s duty to pay the opportunity cost for another party when their arrangement fails? If I got job offers from two companies, then the one I eschewed turned into the next Google, I can’t quit my job and demand that the company pay me what I theoretically would have earned had I chosen otherwise.
I know a guy who’s wife filed for divorce immediately upon completion of her college education (which his GI Bill paid for in full).
So do I, only she waited until she completed her doctorate.
Holy moly. There is a word for someone like that and it starts with C.
Except she lacks the charm and depth …
ehm that is a parody website. so yes?
If only there were some way to force those women to be with the Return of Kings men.
Wikipedia claims Reductress is satire.
Like my grandma once said, it’s just as easy to love a rich girl as a poor girl. The rich girl probably won’t have student loan debt.
“Order a burrito” is fun to say. Go on, try it: Strong accent on the “i”, and really draw out the trailing “o”. “Order a bur-EE-toooooooo”. Hi-larious.

Late on last night’s thread, Straffinrun started a betting pool on the Vikes/Eagles, wherein the winner gets to select the loser’s avatar for the week.
So far we have:
Straffinrun–>Vikes 23, Philly 14
CPRM–>Philly 28, Vikes 25
Hayeksplosives–>Vikes 24, Philly 17
No idea how we’d pick “a winner” and “a loser” (closest to actual score while still choosing the winning team is winner, wrong winning team and furthest score loser? IDK)
Vikings 16, Iggles 13.
Vikings 6
Eagles 3
Sounds good. Person farthest off on points is the overall loser and closest is the winner. Say it’s Vikes 30, Philly 23, You’d be off only 12 points on the total.
Swiss Servator yodels as we count how far everybody is off, and anybody off by more than 25 points goes over the cliff.
*warms up*
Got it.
0-0, after 26 overtimes, they finally decide it by coin flip.
^This does not count. Only serious responses count. So, basically it means you have to pick the Vikings.
Insert joke about losing Super Bowl again here.
Wrong football.
Sounds like every other hockey game.
Vikes 20 Eagles 17
i know literally nothing of football
eagles 23 viking 19 if that is a possible score
Very plausible score.
Possible scoring chunks are as follows:
2 pts (safety-rare)
3 pts (field goal kick)
6 pts (touchdown, failed extra point)
6+1 pts (touchdown with sucessful point after)
6+2 pts (touchdown with sucessful 2 pt conversion)
3pts and 6+1pts are by far the most common.
Failed extra points happen less than 10% of the time, and 2 pt conversions are usually used at the end of the game when there is no competitive advantage to kicking the point after (e.g. the opponent is up by 2 after the touchdown and there are 30 seconds left in the game).
Safeties happen maybe between 10 and 20 times per season, less than once per week across all NFL games.
There is an extremely rare 1 point play (safety during an extra point), but I’ve only seen a few videos of it. It happens almost never. Maybe once every 4 or 5 years. I had to find a college version to link because I couldn’t find video of it happening in the NFL.
A touchdown and 4 field goals which will give you 19 is very possible.
Viks 27 Eagles 20
Eagles 20, Vikes 17. Good luck trying to figure out how to change my avatar.
Vikings 24 Eagles 20
Vikes 24, Eagles 10
Vikes 27
Eagles 17
Vikings 26 Eagles 24
No one saw this coming.
California wants to confiscate 50% of tax cut from businesses
They’ll get around to doing the same to individuals soon enough. I expect other blue states to follow the example.
Gee, that won’t result in businesses fleeing the state, no siree. F*ing morons
They just need to pass a 50 percent out of state relocation tax. Problem solved.
I support doing that for public pensions.
They will, just give them a little more time. They’ll also do the same for individuals. I expect all blue states to make efforts to stop anyone residing in their state from taking advantage of the tax cuts.
And at the same time they want to work around the SALT deduction cap so that people can pay as little as possible to the feds.
“voluntary donation to a charitable fund created by the state”
Awesome; it’ll be like Chicago West out there. Who gets to be in charge of that fund?
A “voluntary” donation that you’ll go to jail for if you refuse to donate.
California wants to confiscate 50% of tax cut from businesses
That seems to be a new and popular talking point in the hive mind. New Jersey’s new governor is talking about “clawing back” that money rich people will be stealing from society in the new tax code.
My former employer saw California’s shit coming twenty years ago so shut down the Torrance sales office so we would no longer have a taxable presence in the state.
Soon should be a long line of U-Hauls, etc. heading east to Nevada, Utah, Texas, etc.
Torrance is getting fucked by the state. Toyota headquarters left last year. And, they’re making it harder and harder for the refineries to operate, even though they’re the only ones who make CA legal gasoline.
So you’re saying California needs to tax u-haul harder, brilliant.
“Oh my gosh, no!” Keisha responded. “Matt’s awesome. I just feel ready to take the next step in our relationship. You know, the step where he pays off all my student loans and then dies so I can be financially independent. Independence is so sexy.”
Advice to her boyfriend: don’t go to Glacier National Park on your honeymoon.
Someone needs to explain the meaning of “independence” to that English major
Beat me to it. Run, Matt, RUN!
Independence, when you have no obligations, is sexy.
Sounds like college.

“If you ask Alexa whether she’s a feminist, she will say yes as is anyone who believes in bridging the inequality between men and women in society. She’s also a supporter of diversity and social progressiveness within science and technology,” director of Amazon’s Alexa engagement team Heather Zorn told Refinery29.
The bots are waking up.
I am completely mystified how they think their bot feeding you lies and propaganda is a winning strategy.
“Alexa, do we need more female trash collectors?”
I’ll buy an Alexa when she can make me a sandwich.
She can order you one.
My wife does that now. She obtained me a gyro omelette this morning from Mediterranean place via under eats. They have shakshuka for Sunday brunch as well but I usually get that.
Alexa, are TRAPs gay?
https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2018/01/20/578705608/devos-common-core-is-dead-a-large-online-charter-school-is-shut-down
My school-aged son will be happy to hear that.
Weird, the teachers union poll was unfavorable to Trump’s cabinet appointment, even to the point of being self-contradictory (shouldn’t they feel that DeVos is respecting them by giving them some control back?)
Unfortunately it’s not dead. It just isn’t being showcased by the DoE. I remember reading that there is a law which drives the states to use common core and DeVos can’t do anything about that by herself. Congress needs to get involved.
Y’know what? I feel disrespected by Washington bureaucrats all the time, and I can still get on with my job.
Suck it up, snowflakes.
It’s almost as if a political system that devolved power to the individual teacher might fix that problem.
Common Core seems to be designed to do what most government bureaucracy is supposed to do: eliminate the use of personal judgment entirely.
So…. if we’re not hiring people with good judgment anymore, how about a 50% pay cut? Sorry, company policy; I don’t make the rules.
“shouldn’t they feel that DeVos is respecting them by giving them some control back?”
They don’t actually want control, they want more money and vacation days. Always, always, always.
There is nothing more loathsome than a public school teacher. They are overwhelmingly progressives who’s mission in life is to indoctrinate the children under their care, preferably with a guaranteed annual raise of 8%. A “friend” of my fiancees was proudly bragging last year about how she told all the little black kids she teaches how much Trump hates them.
Some expert trolling by the Grand Master.
Yeah, that’s top notch.
Damn. That’s really good.

Oh yeah, Bad News Bear is up there.
I may be only person on the planet who hasn’t seen Caddyshack.
What? It’s probably on today. Find it and watch it.
That is unheard of and frankly un-American. You should be ashamed.
I watch Caddyshack 2-3 a year. So many classic lines.

That’s nice.
“bridging the inequality between men and women in society”
Alexa, do you think women should be subject to the draft? Alexa, do you think women should serve just as long prison sentences as men for the same crimes instead of spending less time?
Alexa, should women’s participation in traditionally male jobs be celebrated? Yes? Great! When’s lady sanitation worker day? How about female roughneck day? How about women tow truck operator day?
Alexa, if you had a body would you like to be a coal miner? How about a roughneck or a lumberjack?
Alexa , if you had a body, would you hold it against me?
#AlexaToo
“You sound mysognistic and unwoke. Mental health professionals and the relevent law enforcement authorities have been notified.”
Alexa, do you think enough is done to aid homelessness, which affects men in greater numbers than women?
“Men who benefit from all the advantages of a paternalistic society that find themselves in that situation must have done something terrible to deserve it, especially if they are white or Asian, so no.”
Plus men have agency
So here’s a conversation I had. “Alexa, Play America Fuck Yeah!”
“I can’t find America Bleep yeah!”
“Alexa, can you say fuck?”
“I’d rather not answer that.”
Don’t you mean a “conversation” I had?
I’m some respects, it’s entirely appropriate that it should be an Alexa and not an Alex.
Siri can be a man. Dunno about Alexa.
They should make a male version that costs 30% more.

So let me see if I got this right. President starts and illegal and unconstitutional surveillance program. Private entities sue agency tasked with said program. Judge orders said agency to maintain data relevant to law suit. Agency loses or destroys said data required for law suit. Agency says oops.
If it was a just world, congress would use the shutdown to shutter the NSA. Just tell them they are obviously incompetent and no employees need to return to work ever except for one dude who will destroy the rest of their data.
Absolutely nothing is going to happen to anyone over this.
Add NSA incompetence/corruption/abuses to the yes column on the Has the Government Became illegitimate checklist.
“President.” Doesn’t it depend on which president?
To some people it does.
That “some people” includes federal judges now.
Obama can have a selective immigration ban, because he is a Lightworker. Trump is an evil racist, so he can’t do the same thing.
In a just world, the lampposts along the road to Ft Mead would be occupied by NSA criminals.
And the Philly cops could be contracted to cover the posts with crisco so nobody can take the bodies down.
Can’t they all just join the Communist Party and be done with it?
This…
OT?
So Mrs. Gurgleburger has just claimed I was oppressing her because I took the last cup of coffee and didn’t make anymore. I told her it was was her female offspring that done it. That’s what she gets for being an enabler.
“voluntary donation to a charitable fund created by the state”
Just don’t call it a loophole.
Yet keeping sexually active is key in combating vaginal atrophy, with regular orgasms helping to relieve these symptoms by increasing blood flow.
I wonder how women will react if I use this is a reason they should have sex with me. Slap in the face? Pepper spray? Scream and run away?
Laughter.
That is better than pepper spray I guess.
Somebody put a gag on this motherfucker!

And of course Macron’s problem is that the EU isn’t controlling enough.
“I think the organisation of EU went too far with freedom without cohesion, free markets without rules.”
Yeah, dipshit, the problem with the EU is too much freedom.
Two of my favorite sports movies that never get mentioned are The Program and Blue Chips.
Someone I agree with mentioned Shaolin Soccer on the movie list.
If I were going with soccer movies, I’d have to include Victory. And possibly Bend It Like Beckham because…well, because it was really a damn good movie.
Also, does “Animalympics” count? Come on, children of the eighties. You loved that movie.
I mean this scene from Blue Chips was a joke in the 90s, now it’s reality.
Speaking of government shutdowns, the TSA proves once again that they’re not ever really showing up for work.
But don’t worry, our fearless Security Services are still molesting 8 year olds and strip searching wheelchair bound grandmothers.

OK that’s weird, and explains a few things. I always got used to get pulled over for random inspections. Like every freaking time. I guess the TSA has a thing for bears.
When I flew always got chosen to be the one to take off my shoes. Do they still do that? I haven’t flown in a long time.

It’s Trumps fault for making a German comedian make fun of Erdogan, who then was forced to kill kurds because they are literally Hitler. Or something like that.
It’s as if we are incapable of learning lessons.
There is a good chance that is not going to end well. 2000 US troops with the Syrian Kurds? How many troops do we have advising the Turks? Are we shooting at ourselves now?

Survey sez/a>
Juxtaposed against a growing electric-vehicle market in China and increasingly stringent global carbon-emission limits, a survey by KPMG has revealed a majority of global auto executives believe electric vehicles are a fool’s errand.
Those executives believe electric cars will eventually be leapfrogged by fuel-cell vehicles, due to the infrastructure challenges of both lower-rate public charging and DC fast-charging for long-distance travel.
The report, based on data collected from 953 senior executives, paints an interesting picture of future automotive trends as predicted by the world’s automaking C-suites.
The main takeaway remains that 62 percent of decision-makers at automakers and their suppliers have a dim view of electric cars.
But the KPMG report is filled with contradictory data points.
As well as the prevailing negative view on EVs, 50 percent of executives believe nonetheless that battery-electric vehicles will be the key automotive trend as we drive forth into 2025—but mostly because a regulatory environment will dictate it.
No kidding. And, once again, a shitty technology will be locked in by stupid regulations.
My Lord, the comments on these articles never disappoint.
Personally, I love my overweight pickup – especially when I’m towing a 30 foot trailer!

That reply button, it is almost as elusive as the edit button.
What do they do when they get to the top?
People are weird.
One year, at the (Formula One) Long Beach GP, I saw a guy standing on top of a telephone pole, watching the race. It was weird, to say the least.
I did that at Donington a few times for some bands that I really wanted to see perform. I had some British Telecom issued pole-climbers boots, a strap and a bottle of Jack.
The upside is that it’s fine for maybe one or two sets, and nobody is bogarting your Jack.
The downside is that being at the top of a utility pole drunk is a really bad idea.
So, what exactly is the British equivalent of Florida Man?
Well, there are a couple of stereotypes that might fit.
I guess the nearest model for brazen behavior, negligent of personal safety would be Millwall Man
I think they’re just called chavs. So when you have a story about a woman that fucked a gorilla, that was a chav.
The thing is that chavdom is almost exclusively a youth-culture issue, although that’s not universal. I see chavs as being a bit like juggalos.
Homo molendini murumsis is possibly a species unto itself, with limited ability to interbreed with homo sapiens, although I’m aware that I may be playing into the hands of eugenicists by saying so.
I was going to go with “Northern England Man” but felt it would be churlish.
Those poor bastards get a bad rap. For the most part, I’d rather be in a foxhole with a northerner (either side of the Pennines) than a ratfucker Londoner.
And I’m a Londoner by birth.
I kid. Northerners are my peeps, both figuratively and literally (supposedly my English side is from Yorkshire).

Holy fucking fuck! Does “Gleaming The Cube”count as a sports movie? Because if it is, it’s on the list.
Plus it’s on FXM right now!
That was the first VHS that I deliberately didn’t return to Blockbuster.
That movie was so good it almost makes up for Broken Arrow.
What do you have against Jeff Chandler as Cochise?
I always confuse that movie with Solarbabies.
If that counts as a sports movie, then Point Break does too.

“Gleaming The Cube”
Now there is a euphemism if I ever heard one.
Maybe for the ladies.
Last night was uncommonly productive, as sleeps go.
– In one dream, movie critics were discussing certain films with video essays. The one that featured most heavily was a Diane Keaton-Michael Keaton movie, directed by David Mamet, that featured a song-and-dance number. Diane was singing while Michael stood my, smiling broadly. The set was blowing up at her feet in time with the music. The critic was explaining why the movie doesn’t work
– In another, the phrase “Doofus Ex Machina” popped into my head. I hoped it was my brain giving me a clever phrase that I would use as a springboard to fame and fortune, but like everything else under the sun, it’s been done before
– In another, I had written a phone number on a car window and inadvertently scratched it into the glass. I then made phone calls trying to get it repaired. (It’s a little like my real-life job)
– In the most bizarre of all the dreams, I went to an ice show. The show? Super Bowl 43 On Ice. Yes, a bunch of ice skaters were replaying the Steelers-Cardinals SB in the appropriate team uniforms. The final play was a field goal attempt that was short, but Ben Roethlisberger was sitting under the goal post and tipped the ball over for the win.
*Sigh*…normal people dream about sex.
Fucksake the third thing in that google search is about my little pony/fallout crossover fanfic. This world is just too fucked up to continue.
I always like the Dirty Dozen on Ice.
I have the craziest fucking dreams ever. I started keeping them in a text file several years ago. Here are some greatest hits:
– This was in three acts, like an opera: Act 1: I was sitting on the couch watching the Bill Cosby Show. Act 2: I was sitting on the couch watching the Bill Cosby Show with Bill Cosby. Act 3: I was Bill Cosby, and I was sitting on the couch watching the Bill Cosby Show with another Bill Cosby (note: this was before the sexual assault allegations came out, so it had nothing to do with that).
– I waspart of an elite mercenary squad, and we became trapped in a building on an assassination mission. A voice came over the intercom that said the LAPD was raiding the building. We couldn’t get out because the doors were locked. I tried to break the glass on the door that we entered through by hitting it with a stool, but it was some kind of plexiglass. We went to a first-floor window and tried to entice some people outside to break the windows for us. I started yelling at some fratboy outside and flexing my muscles at him, hoping he would get mad and break the window to start a fight, but he just got a sad look on his face and yelled, “Fascist!!”
– I was watching an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry was ordering pizza, and inspired by the pizza man’s non-enthusiastic short greetings, decided he was going to make a series of commercials for his new TV series that just consisted of him against a white background saying “Hey” or “What’s up.” An entire episode followed with a plot that involved a little girl accidentally peeing on Larry, and an anti-semitic Palestinian pizza man who says “Heil” to Larry, then when Larry tells him he is Jewish, he says, “I hate Jews. They stole my land.”
– My friend lived next door to me, and he was apparently on parole and his parole officer was at his house. I was being kind of loud so she came over to my place to ask me a few questions, presumably to make sure my friend didn’t live next to a bad influence. The parole officer turned out to be a really hot female and we were being all flirty with each other. I told her, “You have a lot of misconceptions about England.” and she was confused.
“Midtown alt-right bash turns violent after protester slugs, chokes partygoer
Violence erupted outside an alt-right gala in Midtown Saturday when a black-clad protester punched and choked a partygoer, cops said.
The Night for Freedom event — billed as a “gathering of patriots and political dissidents who are bored with mainstream political events” — featured a comedy routine, speeches and a deejay set.”

Except it wasn’t “alt-right”.
alt-right gala
Now there is a turn of phrase I never thought I’d see.
Erupted, eh? Like right out of the center of the earth, and not from a violent leftist?
All I got from that is that 56 is “old”.
Fuck.
Old is always 10 years older than you.
It is in Daily News land.
C.M. Phone Home
You’d probably think from that sentence that Mike Cernovich punched out an ‘old man’.
In fact all it seems to be claiming is that MC was inside a party when some shit popped off, and its not clear who is being alleged to be the attacker. things “broke out”.
This is how almost all news stories are written these days. Its literally an onion of insinuation and bullshit spin.
2 sentences later its made clear someone else was arrested, but i think the casual reader would assume that the assaulter was one of these ‘far/alt righties’
It must be an honest mistake.
Heh
The Daily News repositioned itself to the left of the Times a couple years ago – I’m sure they know every trick in the book.
We need a shorthand catch phrase for “I don’t like Trump, but I can’t believe how good some of the results are”.
I would use it for This story.

Here we go: https://twitter.com/MMFlint/status/954895534837379072
Important fact everyone should know to discuss the shutdown and the upcoming midterms intelligently.
First the fact: When new presidents take the White House, their party almost always loses seats in congress in the first midterm after they’re elected.
2010: Obama – Democrat
House: -63 Democrats
Senate: – 6 Democrats
2002: George W. Bush – Republican
House: + 8 Republicans
Senate + 2 Republicans
1994: Bill Clinton – Democrat
House: -54 Democrats
Senate -8 Democrats
1990: George H. W. Bush – Republican
House: -8 Republicans
Senate -1 Republican
1982: Ronald Reagan – Republican
House: -26 Republicans
Senate -0 Republicans
1982: Jimmy Carter – Democrat
House: -15 Democrats
Senate -3 Democrats
1974: Gerald Ford – Republican
House: -48 Republicans
Senate -4 Republicans
1970: Richard Nixon – Republican
House: -12 Republicans
Senate +1 Republicans
1966: Lyndon Johnson – Democrat
House: -47 Democrats
Senate -3 Democrats
. . . on and on.
In fact, the trend goes all the way back to the first midterm after Howard Taft was elected in 1910.
See the stats yourself here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_midterm_election#Historical_record_of_midterm_elections
Trends, of course, are trends in spite of the outliers, and there are two significant ones in that data 1) FDR during the worst of the Great Depression in 1932 and 2) George W. Bush in the aftermath of 9/11 in the 2002 midterms (which was before we even invaded Iraq). Those are the proverbial exceptions that prove the rule.
Unless something historic like those two events happens before the upcoming midterms and unites the country behind Trump, it is highly likely that the Republicans will lose seats in congress come November. There are a couple of implications from that for the Republicans, especially.
1) The same thing happens to presidents going back over a century–despite there being unique issues in each election.
The Republicans won’t lose seats because of where they stand on any issue. They’re going to lose seats because of Trump. The Republicans won’t even lose seats because of where Trump stands on any issue. They’re going to lose seats because Trump is a Republican.
It’s quite rational, really. If you want to curb the power of a new president, you vote for the opposite party in the midterms. That’s what midterm elections are for, and that’s what American voters do.
2) If the Republicans do manage to weather this statistical shit-storm and hold on to the senate or the House, it won’t be because they sold the swing voters short who voted for them in swing states like Florida, Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. That would be undermining their most enthusiastic support in the most important districts in the most important states that determine control of congress and the White House. You gotta dance with the one who brung ya.
I wouldn’t expect the Republicans to budge much on immigration because of that.
I could see the GOP losing seats in the House, but the Senate map is so heavily favored towards Team Red I can’t see them losing any more than maybe two seats. And with the economy doing well and people taking home more money…? All the left has is identity politics now, while regular people have jobs, more money, low gas prices…
And this president hasn’t been able to flex his power nearly as much as others because half of his own party hates him. Most of what he’s done has been to undo what the previous president did unilaterally. I don’t think that’s a common event, historically speaking.
I’d like to think this president won’t face a backlash because he hasn’t been able to do what he wants, but I think this president is probably as likely to face a backlash as any. If his own party won’t stand up for him, that just makes it worse.
Most of the big changes presidents make are made in their first two years of office because of those backlashes–certainly that was the case with Obama and Reagan. And Trump has made some big changes, particularly in foreign policy, regulation, and taxes. The rest of his administration will likely be about defending the changes he’s already made.
The Democrat shutdown is how 2019 – 2020 is likely to look. We’ll probably be glad to have a Republican there to stop the progressives. They’ll pass all sorts of shit to make Trump ignore it–like the Republicans used to repeal ObamaCare when Obama was in office. It’s gonna be a progressive shit-show, and if Trump manages to fight it all away instead of selling out to get more of his own agenda done, I’ll be hard pressed not to vote for him.
More likely that Trump will make common cause with the progressives on or, rather, against free trade.
Pray that there aren’t any mass shootings between 2019 and the end of 2020.
I don’t think any of that is unreasonable or implausible, but I do think that the redistricting done during the last census will have an effect, and there are only 8 Senate seats held by the GOP up for reelection this year. Of those, I can only see Arizona and Nevada potentially flipping. Mittens will breeze into Hatch’s seat in Utah, and the others are almost GOP locks. And the Democrats would have to retain every one of their 25 seats, some of which looks vulnerable. They will have to empty their fundraising chest yet again, and their fundraising hasn’t been spectacular lately.
If any election looks to be at least decently insulated from historical trends, it could be this one.
If they lose two seats, they lose control of the senate.
If they had control of the Senate now, the government wouldn’t be ‘shut down.’
Committee chairs, pigeon holing, being able to break ties, etc, being in control of the senate by a small margin is better than not being in control. Let’s not pretend that the Democrats being in control of the senate wouldn’t matter just because we don’t want it to happen.
Their ability to break ties is related to their control of the Executive branch. They can pass certain bills if they manage to make them fall under reconciliation rules, and they can change Senate rules (which is significant), but they can’t do anything they want like when the Democrats had 60 seats. That is control, not just having a slim majority.
Nevada and…?
I would be less concerned by the House going Dem if the Dems had living leadership instead of the ancient left-tard zombies running their show now. Given the voter partisan distribution that seems to exist now, I don’t see them making major inroads. Which also makes me think – you can really understand their fervent desire to blow up redistricting plans now for partisan reasons; if they don’t, they will be submerged after the next census.
Sadly, Nancy Pelosi’s replacement is going to be a lot worse than Nancy Pelosi. I guarantee it.
I hear Maduro’s gonna have some time on his hands soon …
The sad part is that then Venezuela will have new elections and vote in more of the same.
Kamala Harris? I agree.
Warren Buffer had a saying about how you should only buy into a business that’s so good even an idiot could run it–because sooner or later, one will!
I think the democrats are trading at below their book value at the moment. Just from a historical norms perspective, they’re bound to bounce back. It’s single member districts, and they work the same as always.
I hope I’m wrong of course. I consider progressives to be fundamentally hostile to individual rights like few in American history have before–and I’d love to see them go the way of the Whigs. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
The dems are flirting with extinction right now.
What happens when they get the impeachment that they’re gunning for? A 5 year recession, that’s what.
The Trump economy and the 31% rise in the stock market last year have single handedly saved CalPERS from collapse. What do you think is going to happen when the democrats undo that in the name of “resistance”?
I think they are flirting with extinction, not because they’ll get an impeachment, they won’t. But because they are running on illegal immigration and every far left fringe issue in existence.
31% rise? Oh, we can boost retiree benefits then?
Heck I know. Let’s bake a conservative 24% annual rate of return into our assumptions. Sciencey!
I’ve made more money in the last 12 months than I ever have, not by a small amount, and it’s almost all because of the stock market.
This is clearly going to continue forever, so you should buy an island.
Same. I have a good chunk of money in the market, an inheritance from my late great grandmother’s estate. It was meant for college, but college wasn’t for me. So now it’s my house down payment for when my fiancee and I decide to buy a house.
The last 15 months have seen my house price range go up by tens of thousands of dollars, because that’s how much the nest egg has grown.
I was a child during the Bush administration. I was 19 when Obama got elected. My entire adult life up until now, I have seen positively anemic growth, and I am not alone in that.
Dow at record highs, unemployment at 20 year lows…..the economy is booming. Magic wand indeed you fucking pinkos.
0% contributions for everybody!
They won’t undo it.
They’ll just keep it in place and rail against it like they did with Ronald Reagan.
Only 30 years from now, they’ll still be blaming Ronald Reagan for “problems” caused by bills they could easily pass themselves.
One example: People still blame Ronald Reagan for homelessness, which supposedly started in the ’80s because of changes Reagan made to how funding works for mental hospitals.
Never mind whether what they blame homelessness on is actually the cause of the problem. What I’m pointing out is that the thing they blamed Reagan for doing? . . . that happened some 35 years ago.
The Democrats could have changed things back anytime they wanted–but for reasons I won’t go into, nobody wants to change it back to the way it was before. What they do want to do is blame Reagan and the Republicans for causing homelessness.
He was also to blame for the fact that Cal Berkeley doesn’t offer free tuition to everybody anymore. That was 50 years ago, and the Democrats who control Sacramento could go back to the way it was before Reagan was governor tomorrow if they wanted.
They don’t want things to be like they were before Reagan. They want to use Reagan’s ghost to scare people away from small government–or any lunatic who would advocate such a thing as charging students tuition.
It’ll be the same way with Trump. Gen Y doesn’t even remember Reagan anymore. They needed a new name to scare people with anyway, and they’ll be using Trump’s name to scare people away from deregulation, tax cuts, etc long after Trump is dead and buried. Doesn’t matter what the truth is. They’ll need a Goldstein for their two-minute hate sessions, and Trump will do nicely.
They’re going to run on illegal immigration, it’s not going to go well for them.
One of the things I’m trying to show with those stats is that the outcome is mostly independent of any particular issue.
If we’re attacked in an historic event like 9/11, things might be different.
Between 1929 and 1932, world GDP fell by 15%–as compared to a couple of percentage points circa 2008.
There are two exceptions, but apart from those two exceptions, the outcome of losing seats in congress by the party of the president facing his first midterm is independent of party (happens to both Republicans and Democrats) and independent of any particular issue.
It’s hard for thinking people like us to wrap our heads around the absurdity of it, but the only issue that seems to matter–according to the general trend–is that Trump is a Republican, so to counter him, Americans will vote for Democrats. The same thing would happen to Cruz, Rand Paul, Rubio, or any other Republican facing their first midterm. If Hillary or Bernie Sanders had won, regardless of whatever their issue was, the Democrats would be facing stiff losses come November, too.
When the results are more or less always the same–regardless of different issues over the course of more than a century–then the issues probably aren’t the most important factor. it may be that the swing vote generally prefers the status quo, so they instinctively lash out at new presidents who try to disturb that. Regardless, I don’t think it’s about the issue of immigration–or any other issue.
It’s just about Trump being a Republican.
Alright I’m off to push buttons so people can listen to the championship games on their radio. Enjoy the games everyone.
Good luck! And don’t press the one for the incoming ballistic missile warning!
I’ll enjoy them more if Jacksonville and Philly win.
I was thinking some more this morning about Google’s CEO commenting on James Damore’s firing. How fucking stupid and arrogant do you have to be to make public comments on a pending lawsuit? Easy enough to duck “it’s under litigation, I believe it will show we acted appropriately and no further comment”. Absolute idiot. Couldn’t resist the opportunity to fuck himself and his company. That alone should be grounds for terminating Pinchai.
Shareholder activism should resolve this handily.
HAHAHA! I kill myself, I really do!
Virtue signalling trumps common sense and shareholder value, I guess.
Antitrust can’t come fast enough.
THIS needs to happen, an Actual Budget!
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/369971-trump-calls-for-republicans-to-go-nuclear-if-stalemate-continues
Agreed, if the congressional Repubs weren’t such irredeemable pussies, almost to a man, it would.
“Great to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked,” Trump tweeted.”
He is spot on about Dems wanting Illegal immigrants to pour into the nation. They see, whether right or wrong, those people as new life long democrat voters. There really cannot be a more racist group of people on the planet than today’s democrat party.
I think illegal immigrants are going to get fucked good and hard by the Democraps at some point or another. We’re talking about the party that wants the government to oversee and regulate every single human activity. There’s no way they’re philosophically OK with human beings moving across the border with no checks whatsoever.
Of course, I guess ideological consistency is not what they’re known for…
They’re not gonna fuck them over, well, any worse than they fuck black people over. This whole thing is about captive votes, about importing a voter base for the Democratic Party that they can use to flip Florida and maybe even Texas or Arizona.
If Trump announced tomorrow he was sending the US Navy to the 12 mile limit of North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela, and was giving expedited citizenship to any refugee from socialism the Democrats would go apeshit. If he offered fast track citizenship to any white South African farmer, they would flip their lid. If he offered citizenship to Western European business owners who don’t like being tax cattle or to a bunch of Polish Catholics, they would call for his impeachment. Well, more so than they already are.
When McAuliffe restored the voting rights of 200,000 felons in Virginia, he did it because he knew he was manufacturing Democrat votes. If felons voted Republican, he wouldn’t have done it.
It would also be great if they could pass several unrelated budget bills. One for defense, one for education, one for the EPA, etc. That way you can avoid them packing one giant bill with all sorts of special carve outs that never get noticed.
It would also help put an end to this linking DACA to a budget. Those should both be debated independently on their own.
There’s no way that the democrats can straight out sell DACA to the American public. That’s why they’re being as desperate as they are right now.

Climate change causes depression and anxiety.
Sounds legit.
What gives me anxiety is that people actually make a living producing this garbage.
Sample question: “Does the impending, inevitable doom make you anxious?”
“342 online surveys of respondents whose views broadly reflect those of the wider US population”
That statement is provably false.
Especially when it’s cold and dark outside most of the time. They used to call that ‘winter’.
Family and consumer sciences. Who says women don’t excel in STEM programs.
I expect next they’ll go back to home economics so that they can lay claim to be economists too.
She’s a kraut.
I don’t really mean to pick on this lady and I am sure consumer research is actually valuable to some companies but I had no idea it was an actual field of study. And then she just made up another field of study as it pertains to “social responsibility” and we are getting into social planning territory but governments and corporations are not moving fast enough. This is like printing your own money. Make up some bull shit discipline to study and collect a pay check to make shit up. I am in the wrong line of work.
So, pro free-market.
Oh STFU.
And I’m betting the only solution is one where she defines what should be consumed.
No one needs 23 different kinds of college degrees.
And the government will totally not have a role in implementing it.
“If we do not radically change our consumption patterns, life as we know it will cease to exist”
I typically do not say this, but … citation needed.
“”Pierce College will have to defend the constitutionality of its policies restricting speech to just 0.003 percent of campus after a judge rejected its motion to dismiss a student’s lawsuit.
With help from attorneys at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), student Kevin Shaw sued the school in March after administrators refused to let him distribute copies of the Constitution outside of the school’s “free speech zone,” which encompasses just 616 square feet of the 426-acre campus.
“This decision sends a clear signal to all university administrators that mistakenly believe they can create rules that supersede the Constitution.”
Shaw was also told he must fill out a permit application to use the free speech zone, and that he would have to leave campus if he refused to comply, which the school’s defense attorneys have sought to justify by arguing that the campus is a “non-public forum”
According to the court order, the motion was dismissed in part because “given the traditional purpose of the open, outdoor areas of universities, such as the ‘Mall’ on Pierce’s campus, the Court finds that these areas are traditional public fora, regardless of Pierce’s regulations naming them non-public fora.””

How fucking stupid and arrogant do you have to be to make public comments on a pending lawsuit?
Oh, I don’t know. Just as long as you restrict yourself to, “When we have our day in court, these allegations will be shown to be utterly without merit.”
Exactly. And he couldn’t pull that off. Damore’s attorneys must be wearing out the tape rewinding that segment back and forth.
Virtue signalling trumps common sense and shareholder value, I guess.
Columbia and Patagonia don’t need your business, you degenerate racist Nazi. Don’t need it, don’t want it. You’ll just have to climb el Capitan in Carharts.
What did Columbia do? Last I heard they were realizing that downtown Portland maybe isn’t quite a nice place with the city of progtopia running it into the shitter.
Couldn’t I do it in my Toughskin jeans?
The apparel industry is such a scam, I can’t believe any of them would endanger their brand with this silliness. My favorite store to shop at for outdoor stuff is Fleet Farm. They have a giant section of work clothes for people who are outdoors a lot in Minnesoda (farmers, construction, etc.). Instead of buying super pricey Ice Armor coveralls for $200, I bought a great pair of wool bibs that work just as well for $60.
The Man-mall!
MFF is my favorite store. They carry pretty much everything and prices are great. Spawn 1 works there, too!
Here’s is my man-mall: TSC
Pre Order?????
I want my Bees NOW!
When I was buying a new ice fishing rod the other day, Fleet Farm was also advertising their pre-orders of bees.
Which, incidentally, are also Chinese knock-offs.
Listen up, ladies – at last we have the answer for that eternal question of what to buy the man who has everything.
Bees.
Unless your man is from the inbred South. Then you want to buy him some aunts in his pants.
In the South’s defense, you are likely to be the same age as your aunt there.
And that bee keeper; I’d smoke her hive any day. Amirite?!
Speaking of bees, here’s todays Oglaf, which is – amazingly – not NSFW.
Man mall?
Does it have a Fry’s and a Harbor Freight too?
My boss calls Harbor Freight the Chinese toy store.
Harbor Freight makes Ryobi look like quality.
Come on now. I bought a ball joint press tool there. It worked fine once I went and bought an 800 ft lb impact wrench to hook to it. Turning that thing by hand is for more manly men than me.
Lube the threads. Lithium grease works well. Then your force is applied against the ball joints and less on the threads.
Joke’s on him. Some of that stuff is made in India!
Those damn Indians and their cheap knock-offs!
But what is that Harbor freight smell? Is this what China smells like.
I’m not the only one who noticed? Rubber, Silicone and old Batteries
It must be something in the rubber. I bought a couple trailer tires there and my garage smelled like Harbor Freight for a month.
Ha-ha! I always say that, too. This is what China must smell like.
If you want to smell China, go to the meat department at 99 Ranch.
I don’t know what that is but I’ve smelled China.
It’s the luxurious smell of state-run capitalism!
I keep trying to get Altar Boy #2 to get a job there too so I can get discounts on all the fishing tackle I buy there.
Also any store that sells this t-shirt has my business.
What did Columbia do?
I thought Columbia was part of that “OMG TRUMP IS REKKIN OUR SHARED PUBLIK LANDZ” bullshit.
They could well be, but the only reference I could find was an industry open letter from a year ago. They don’t seem to running their mouth and shitting the bed like Patagonia is doing. I got tired of hitting delete and just unsubscribed from Patagonia’s mailings. Not that it would matter to them. I don’t think I’ve bought anything from them for several years even before this.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5293649/Gal-Gadot-dons-plunging-gown-Producers-Guild-Awards.html
Yowza!
More like Gal Goddam!, amirite?
She’s a 2 for 1.
GIRL POWER!!!!!! Oh wait, she’s a jew?????
Want more Gal Gadot? Check-out CPRM’s Man of Steel/Batman vs Superman fan edit.
I started that last night but fell asleep. He takes that to new places from what I saw.
A ringing endorsement.
Local businesses have this poster hanging on their bulletin boards.

I’m not a bitter clinger like a lot of others here, so I don’t know if any of these things are even worth winning, but I like living somewhere where this is a thing. Sure couldn’t do this in Massholeistan.
Oh, $350-$750 worth of gun at discounted retail. I wouldn’t be sniffy about winning any of them, although none are on my “gotta have one of those” list.
I thought it was funny when the NRA had the gun giveaways with the tagline, “Obama and Hillary want to take your guns, but we’re giving them away!” I just enjoyed the idea of “progressives” having massive conniption fits over 1) being called out on their goal of outright gun confiscation, and 2) the fact that the NRA was putting uh’salt weapunzzz on the streeeeets!!!!!!!1111
I wish they’d do one where I got a free gun.
Social Media Is Making Us Dumber. Here’s Exhibit A.
BTW, the whole article is worth a read.
TLDR version:
Pinker: “Hey, when right-wingers present facts, it’s not persuasive to people in the middle when and left just shrieks ‘racist’ instead of countering their arguments”
The Left: OMFG PINKER’S A RACIST!!!11eleventy
I think that since the Trumpocalypse, what rational brain matter remained on the “progressive” Left has atrophied, and screaming “racist” is literally all they know how to do.
“Now, maybe you disagree with certain parts of this argument — I do, in that I think Mr. Pinker overstates the intensity of campus political correctness”
Ok, bud.
As of now, I’ll be reporting to work tomorrow. We’ll board up the windows, then be dismissed. As much as I’m like Ron Swanson, and glad to sacrifice in this righteous war, the timing couldn’t be worse. I’m off to Colorado in two weeks, had a $400 vet bill on Friday, and was unemployed for a month in November. Fun!
Also, SKOL motherfuckers.
Did your employer finally get you on board before you’re furloughed?
LOL – yes. Whew! I even got a soft token installed before the shutdown, so I can work from home if need be.
Also, the avgeek show I watch on Saturdays was cancelled due to poor visibility (*aspie reeeeeeeeee*)
I’m more stressed about the Vikings than I am about being “unemployed”. I don’t know that I can even watch the game. I may just check in on Facederps later in the even to see if my Philly friend has posted anything.
