HA! Bet you thought we wouldn’t get to these today, eh? Well, WE DID! It took a few hours, coffee and some warm food….but at least one of us is in decent enough shape to post a few links. Mind you, that is probably the last effort of the day for me, other than pushing the TV remote buttons…

Finally. You made me corpsefuck a thread on TOS to reply to Hihn. *shudder*

Is this a joke about the shoe shop story?
NO SHOES FOR YANQUIS OR BRITS!
Time’s Up: Women launch campaign to fight sexual harassment
Well, I won’t hold my hand on my ass waiting for THAT to happen.
Somehow I dont think this is going to turn out like they think it will.
Glad I am already a 17 year vet at my present job. I’d hate to be a woman trying to get a job right now with potential employers perhaps wondering if I’m a ticking timebomb/lawsuit.
(Although that recent job offerish thing I got was pre-laced with inappropriate suggestions that weren’t particularly traumatic for me, so apparently it still depends on the people involved.)
I’m sure if the price was right you could feign an appropriate level of trauma. I know I could.
Probably so, but that is not how I roll.
Nice handle, BTW!
Fuck off, Tulpa.
I thought free trade would prevent that?
In my mind “free trade” implies some measure of the people being “free” – certainly more so than in China.
I personally think more trade with authoritarian regimes is usually the result of the regime loosening its grip rather than the cause of it.
Yeah, they’ve loosened their grip somewhat from the really bad old days but it hasn’t loosened any further in a couple decades and guess what they have no intention of letting that happen. The country is “Not Free” and the Commies want to keep it that way.
The Commies think that trade benefits their regime and will not give up power voluntarily any time soon, so yeah
I like to point out how trade and diplomatic recognition benefitted Stalin enormously didn’t liberalize him at all.
Libertarian belief that trade is a great political liberalizer has some flaws.
Another fun thing is that Modern China is much closer to Chiang’s vision than Mao.
Horse. Barn Door. They’ll try to stop it, and it could get ugly in certain places, but their idea of control won’t last.
How long do you think? 5? 10? 50? 100?
One hour to bbq time- grilling burgers for first dinner of the year. What’s everyone else having tonight?
I was going to do chicken with mornay over egg noodles but wife reminded me it is new years day. Cabbage and black eyed peas.
Pork picnic shoulder roast, baked potato and brussel sprouts and salad
No idea. Probably going out if the wait time isn’t too long
Lobster, and for dessert a nice bottle of ice wine.
That’s a good idea. It’s been a month since I’ve eaten any crustaceans.
Got a pot of black eyed peas and ham hocks simmering. I’ll bake up some cornbread to go along with it.
Reminds me I have to get off my butt in front of the fire and start our peas.
Black-eyed peas (homegrown no less) with ham (chunks and bone) and cornbread. Washed down with a porter. It was delicious.
Not sure — probably leftover chicken and shredded Savoy cabbage simmered with hoisin or oyster
sauce and glass noodles, mebbe with an extra side of rice. More carbs than I’d normally do, but I’m cold and hungry right now.
Hey lookie, a carriage return in the middle of a sentence. My iPad’s a great piece of hardware with software that makes me wanna scream. Grrrrrrrr…
I love grilled food in the winter time. My mom used to treat us to that in the winter. I am remembering seeing her in a fur-lined parka walking in the snow out in the yard.
Fast forward to a more recent time: One super cold winter night, the hubs and I went to a friend’s for a bbq. But it was so cold, the meat never truly felt hot….
Must have been a rookie on a bad grill. I grill year round and my Napolean never lets me down – even below zero!
What’s “winter time”?
You know it as “Firestorm Season.”
(That’s what we call “Summer” up here in the Lower Rainland…)
So Mudslide season is Spring?
Mmmmmmm, more like “early summer” for us, but where Playa lives? {shrug} Sure, I guess…
I’m in the flatlands.
No fires, no floods, no mudslides. But that also means no view.
Playa get’s the Tsunami however, and I get the San Andreas
I’m 80 feet up. No tsunamis.
Tell the Japanese that,
or read this, great reading

They live near an offshore megathrust fault; I don’t. Any earthquake generated tsunami is going to be less that 10 feet when it rolls into the South Bay.
Annals is a GREAT book. Plus it is chaptered so you can start at your particular part of the continent and then pick up the sections that you find most interesting.
Charcoal knows no limits…..
I’ll grill in winter as long as it’s not too cold. Been doing it for many years.
We are having burgers too, grain fed, fried on a pan. Spinach salad on the side.
Winter soup:
Kielbasa (can use any meat – chicken is good in it)
Stock
Spices to your liking
Sweet potatoes
Butternut squash
Parsnips (important)
Carrots
Garlic
Spinach
Pumpkin puree (optional)
Roast the root veggies and garlic drizzled w/olive oil til just tender
In stock pot, brown meat, cook for a while, deglaze with whatever you like
Add root veggies, cook some more
Cover w stock, boil then simmer for long time
Last 10 min, throw in spinach
It’s very orange and damned good.
“Parsnips (important)”
I’ve recently learned that I ? parsnips. They are delicious.
Beef tacos corn tortillas.
Homemade NM green chile and cheese tamales. Maybe some of the sweet potato and black bean tamales, too.
Probably off to Bistro La Roux, a lovely little Cajun joint in the northern MPLS suburbs where I can get some delicious fried okra, black eyed peas, and either etouffle or jambalaya (decisions, decisions).
I had my customary post party breakfast (actually luper) of eggs, bacon and cinnamon rolls, along with Super B complex vitamins, to correct the mild hangover from a fifth of bourbon I drink.
Since I am working tonight my supper will be a sandwich and chips.
Pulled smoked Beef on Hawaiian Bread, Loaded Potato skins and Cherry Pie w/ Chocholate Ice Cream
Bone in ribeye for lunch. Bbq, collards etc. for supper during the Sugar Bowl.
Left over meat from my smoke-fest yesterday. Smoked Brisket, Smoked Tri-Tip and Smoked Meatloaf. The kids can figure out the other food groups on their own.
A small well-pounded pan-cooked steak, a baked potato, and roasted brussels sprouts.
It was good, too.
Wife is of Hungarian descent —— keilbasa and sauerkraut, natch.

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

Beautiful, but cold. I thank you. I get to sit here with a nice, warm, orange glow in my wood stove and look at those photos.
Time for some good old WWI propaganda.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Hell_with_the_Kaiser!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prussian_Cur
This one features an actual German saboteur playing the German saboteur.
Also we need a Steve Smith variant of this one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Ryle_Hopps#/media/File:Harry_R._Hopps,_Destroy_this_mad_brute_Enlist_-_U.S._Army,_03216u_edit.jpg
Very lurid stuff. I don’t even think the anti-Japanese propaganda of WWII was that lurid. Thanks to the backlash against this atrocity propaganda after the war the Allies were very reluctant to accuse the Nazis of atrocities. Then we found the concentration camps.
Also there was a tendency to assume that all WWI German atrocity stories were false which tended to ignore the actual massacres like in Dinant. Or that all these atrocities were manufactured by the British propaganda machine when stories like the Crucified Canadian Soldier and the Corpse Factory are clearly based on frontline rumor that later reached London.
…maybe break down a comment like that into bite sized pieces next time?
Dammit, forgot about the two link limit…
TL:DR
Ken, is that you?
Eh the text is mostly from Wikipedia. Those plot synopses are pretty crazy stuff.
Bailey’s what?
Turning into immortal robots?
[golf clap]
It’s for coffee. Along with Kahlua. Choice of champions. I had some this morning to get through the concert despite only have about a total of four hours sleep.
I don’t want to work tomorrow. Blah.
I hear you. I’ve been out since the 22nd and am going to have a hard time readjusting.
Fortunately, most of the charge numbers won’t be turned back on yet tomorrow, so I will probably just sort through my cubicle and clear out my digital and physical files while listening to music most of the day.
I’ve been working but the holiday and temps have just wiped me out. In a couple weeks I’ll take some nice long weekends with no family obligations. Just some sports, beer, and some range time, not necessarily in that order.
Solid plan. Enjoy.
I’m doing roof work Tomorrow, so I get a nice view of the LAX traffic overhead
How the fuck does my boss think I am going to be productive in the morning after a game that starts at 8:45?
I go into this office tomorrow.
I would start a betting pool on how long it takes, after I walk into the office, for me to regret not taking this week off except that I already regret not taking this week off.
I don’t quite have the gumption to log in and post at Glibs from work, but I do lurk over lunch sometimes.
I don’t watch glibs at work. All I need is for someone to walk past my desk after one of the hot edit faeries helps someone out.
*EDIT FAIRY PROMISES TO HIDE!*

Not the edit faerie I want, but the one I deserve.
I don’t get Glibs at work so I go to TOS and I’ve Stylish-ed out all images and such so it just looks like text. Keeps wandering eyes wandering.
I feel like I’m 8 again, vaguely hoping this awful cough will develop into full-on flu.
I’m working tonight. Ugh, it’s cold as hell when Trump won, a bunch of people took voluntary time off and a bunch more used personal time. So, I’m here in a mostly empty warehouse, scrawling Jack Torrence level screeds to stay sane.
I’m not laughing at you having to work, I’m laughing at the fact that people took personal days after the election.
Heh, fair enough. Tonight definitely has that sort of feel. Almost no one is here and I bet that at least a few of us are a little hungover.
I had to take the day after the election off since I was still drunk as fuck after staying up until 5am and drinking while laughing my ass off.
I already has the day off (thank ‘bog) but the stories my coworkers told are quite hilarious.
Damn late to this thread, but I’ve been out most of the day yesterday and today. Work tomorrow is going to be fucking terrible. I get to explain to a moron call center manager why offering customer callbacks won’t help their handle time or their average answer speed. Callbacks don’t change the number of inbound calls you have to handle, it just allows the callers to not wait on the line. When your queues have an average answer speed of over an hour, the problem isn’t the phone system, and no changes to the phone system will help with that.

My grocery store was full of Rose Bowl fans yesterday. All very nice, friendly people. With accents.
Ayak-sense? Why whutevah do yew mean?
Okies most certainly do NOT say whutevah. That would only apply to the Georgians.
We okies tend to have a very closed “R”, like the Irish.
Hey, I resemble that remark!
Sometimes when I think my job in the fondue mines is bad, I see something waaaay worse, and don’t mind it so much.
From the article

Imagine having that job!
Defense minister for Syria is bad enough, but at least there’s something to do.
I know That Guy!
Anyone surprised that the re-commie-ing PRC would do bad things to Hong Kong?
They’re building a high speed choo-choo, which we know can never go wrong.
Giving HK over to the ChiComs was the dumbest move the English could have made, so of course that’s what they did. Carter-level stupid.
I don’t think they had much of a choice. The New Territories, where all the power plants and reservoirs are, were under the 99 year lease. Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, and a few other islands were permanently ceded to the UK. China wasn’t budging on getting the New Territories back, and demanded the rest of the territory back. Britain didn’t have the money to rebuild all the infrastructure in permanently ceded territory, so they caved. If Britain didn’t, China would have held the remaining British territory hostage through cutting off water and power.
The handover was because the lease on the New Territories was set to expire in 1997 and Thatcher didn’t think the rest of Hong Kong would work:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Territories#Sovereignty_transfer_to_the_PRC
Lease ran out, and landlord could repossess if they squatted – what else to do?
The United States has definitely lived up to all of its treaties.
I’m sure if the British figured out a way to keep the New Territories then they would have held on to Hong Kong.
And if the Castros thought they could take back Gitmo they would have tried.
I watched the handover ceremony of HK on BBC when I lived in Stockholm. It was pretty depressing. Prince Charles was doing the Head of State representing for the UK, and then the mayor of HK or whatever was there, and of course representatives of the Chinese central govt.
Only the Chinese central looked happy about it.
If it were Britain of Queen Victoria, they’d have told China that lease got extended. But a hundred years later, they had little choice but to grin and obey…
Or perhaps just ceded like the rest of Hong Kong. Seems back in 1898 the Brit negotiators thought a lease lasting until 1997 was practically permanent.
Well we were warned about Foreign entanglements…..
You think 1997 UK was going to fight a war with the PRC over the remaining parts of Hong Kong?
Or should have?
Yes, the Brits didn’t want a war over Hong Kong and they couldn’t get out of the 99-year lease so they didn’t have much choice.
One TV in the house, father-in-law watching the news, I’m sitting watching on my iPad. Thank goodness for technology.

Hey Pan, how come every time i see you’re name i think “Pan Zagloba, to bring you the constant Variety of sports, the thrill of Victory, and the Agony of Defeat”
You may have to ask OMM, I took the name from a very non-sporting (though extremely boisterous, and would make a good sports commentator) fictional figure.
Very cool! I recently Learned why The Rus Hate the Poles, 900 years of rubbing their faces in the mud will tend to piss you off.
/Poland!
Hey Pan!
What do you think about Alexander I of Serbia and Alexander I of Yugoslavia? Fascinating stuff.
Sadly I grew up in Commie times so not much, although the amount of grief poor Alexander (Yu) got was very unfair, given that most of his attempts at unifying the country were transferred to the post-war Yugoslavia (and honestly, both took more from Austria-Hungary than they were willing to accept).
The Obrenovic-Karadjordjevic dynastic struggle is sometimes more like fiction, but, despite both not being favored by commies, Karadjordjevic dynasty got better press due to their orientation to France and Russia over Austria and Germany, as well as eventual creation of the country.
Alexander of Yugoslavia seems to have felt that Yugoslavia needed some TOP MAN to rule it for life and dissolve the old ethnic identities. Huh, who does that sound like?
True, the assassinations of Alexander of Serbia and Queen Draga is real Game of Thrones of stuff. The machinations of Apis and Pasic and how it lead to WWI is fascinating stuff. And those two ended up making Alexander king of Yugoslavia only for him to vanquish them (Apis being executed) only for him to be assassinated and his son being undone by WWII.
Look up the two founders of the respective dynasties.
Karadjordje the first starts a revolt against the Turks, wins many victories, loses in the end.
Milos Obrenovic starts a second revolt couple years later, uses diplomacy to secure semi-independence.
Karadjordje wants to start another revolt in Turkish lands, Milos gives him safe passage, then arranges for K’s best man/godparent (this is equivalent of salt-and-bread thing in GoT) to kill him, ships the head to the Sultan, because a) fuck it, I’m not giving power away and b) you idiot, stir trouble and Turks will roll over us.
I like now Karageorge thought he had too much of a temper to lead a revolution but his refusal made him the best leader. Then his actual leadership did show that his temper was not the greatest.
The assassinations of Alexander and Draga are described in the opening chapter of “The Sleepwalkers” by Christopher Clark, a good treatment of the start of WWI.
Gruesome ends for those folks.
I find it interesting how the world bungled itself into WWI. Judging by the newspapers it appears no one knew it was happening until just a few days before July 28, 1914.
How’s Macau doing? Portugal’s democratic drug legalizing regime thought handing it back was a good idea.
Are you against legalizing drugs?
He’s pro-whining.
Where did I say that? Their democratic regime, beloved by libertarians for its drug policy, was anti-colonialist and did hand over Macau.
I feel this sums it up

Ah the gambling. I believe they showed some of those casinos in the Man with the Golden Gun?
Indeed it was in the Man with the Golden Gun, and Skyfall too.
Huh. There are some armed Georgia State Patrol officers on the field at the Rose Bowl. In Pasadena, CA.
That’s got to be some pretty sweet overtime.

Today is Sunday, I always do Laundry on Sunday, Yesterday DID. Not. Exist.
After spending most of the season watching a certain unnamed team lose repeatedly, a lot of things about the bowl games are jumping out at me.
It’s not just the talent of the players; the coaching really matters. Every single player is giving it 100% on every play. I guess I got used to not seeing that.
*Lovie Smith stares off into distance, looks confused*
STEVE SMITH LOVIE YOU… HARD.
One of my all time favorites.
The Lovie Smith emotional chart.
I am disappoint that Swiss didn’t check it out. The 2nd down vs 3rd down look is my favorite.
Kirby Smart is not calling a good game. You rip off a 50 yard run from your own 1, then throw it three straight??
OU offense is gaining massive chunks
Yeah. And they ran that play at warmup. That was a coaching and player error.
Also… get that kicker some LASIK.
Those aren’t glasses…Its some hybrid Google Glass/Targeting mechanism.
I suspect that he might be Lucas.
After spending most of the season watching a certain unnamed team lose repeatedly,
The Browns?
Even the marching band is killing it.
And of course we go to commercial. Fuck you, ESPN.
Holiday Adventures with SOCON Dad are over for now. It was a good visit and at one point I got to utter the words “fuck Dave Grossman” to him so that was fun. Anyhow, I lounged off my hangover today with reading and movies. Whoever recommended “Columbine” by Dave Cullen, thank you for recommending a great read, it’s top notch true crime and I can’t put it down. I’m also watching “Peace Officer” on Hulu which is one of the better police militarization docs I’ve seen, it’s a good watch but like anything involving dickhead cops it’s pretty infuriating. Balko is interviewed and speaks well on the sole remaining subject he’s still good on.
Dave Grossman is one of the wolves.
He’s a huckster getting rich off government largess. That whole sheepdog analogy is as delusional as this:
https://youtu.be/_3W0AnCAZsg
It’s been sad to see Balko develop TDS.
Was he ever a libertarian or just anti-cop?
I think he played the game until he got his sweet gig at WaPo. He remains very good on civil liberties I believe.
What is his view on hate speech?
Not sure, I’ve quit paying much attention unless it’s cop related. Were you honestly asking or do you know something I don’t?
I’m honestly asking, I don’t know for myself.
His beat usually centers around 4th amendment stuff but I only read WaPo if it’s linked here. He’s done a bunch of TDS virtue signaling via Twitter but that might be required by contact from his employer. If I recall correctly he wrote a pretty good piece calling out the NRA for their silence on the Philandro Castile shooting.
Oops nope, just checked that was someone else. Anyway, his book “Rise of the warrior Cops” is excellent.
I hated Grossman way before it was cool/normies knew who he was.
There’s a Penny Aracde for that! And if you don’t know PA, click “latest comic” to see what the art looks 18 years later.
My dad’s gone to see him speak before and thinks he’s great. I asked him how, as a Christian, he can square his values with Grossman saying ‘shooting someone will result in the best sex you’ve ever had later that night.’
“Jesus has risen, rest of us need all the help we can get”?
I larfed at that one. It was more like, “that’s so outta context, you need to check your sources!!” He’s really into guru worship but he may reflect on that later on.
Today in my twitter:
Ice T always provides tweets which i imagine being said by Donald Trump.
Then there’s this:
ive always considered this sort of thing part of the most unpleasant and stupid aspects of many libertarians: this idea that supporting the freedom of others by default means supporting use of the military against their regime.
yes, the US and Iran have a hostile relationship. no, its not 100% one sided. if we moved the 5th fleet out of the gulf, the iranians would close the straits of hormuz in a split second.
Well, ya gotta bomb something right?
if we’re playing the straw-man game,
“no, advocating the peaceful overthrow of the iranian regime is not some secret ploy to start a war because war is awesome and everyone except libertarians loves war and regardless of what they say you can just go nya nya nya i’m more anti-war than you”
there was a similar reaction from some w/ the Euromaidan protests; the same sort of people argued that if the US even *commented* or made any diplomatic gestures in support of Ukranian citizens (versus their russian-puppet govt), that it was effectively a step in the direction of going to war w/ russia. ergo, we shouldn’t support the euromaidan movement.
they do sometimes have a point, maybe unwittingly. ‘diplomacy is war by other means’, and every diplomatic use of the carrot is effectively backed with the threat of a stick… but nevertheless: diplomacy is often necessary to avert potentially worse-outcomes, outcomes in which real war is actually far more-likely. as in: Iran closing the staits of hormuz.
Many libertarians seem to have a stalinistic “libertarianism in one country” idea. And a leninistic revolutionary defeatist mentality.
Don Winstonxote Rides! Dragons? Nay, good Sancho…’tis a libertarian in the next village!
Hey I said many, not all.
Aw, I thought a period was going to be your reply.
Also you have no disagreements with other libertarians over foreign policy?

No.
Really? Rothbard tried to emulate Lenin with his alliances and feuding with other factions. He was fond of Lenin’s Revolutionary defeatism
Who the fuck cares, Winston?
Liberty is liberty is liberty. Why don’t you resolve to stop this ‘many libertarians’ shit in 2018?
If it’s not about liberty, it’s not libertarian. Even if it is spewed from the maw of someone considered libertarian.
Why is that so hard?
Erm, I was replying to Gilmore who complained about the views of “many libertarians”(sic). And I wasn’t the one who complained about Balko.
I think you mean 91% of libertarians.
97% Ted, that’s how it works Bro….
Some New Years Derp for y’all
I just – like 10 minutes ago – stepped on a scale for the first time in years and almost fell over. It was like 20 pounds more than I thought. And no amount of “body positivity” is going to cancel out the feeling I get from carrying around all this extra weight.
OMG this has to be satire. I’ve never believed this site was real but come on.
Well. If you look great in the mirror. I mean you look at yourself and can say, ok, low body fat, no big belly or other unsightly bulges of fat, and your health and physical ability is not compromised in any way, then yeah, you don’t need a scale. The person writing that shit, however, is obviously delusional. Also, the person is apparently young and thin, so sure it’s easy to get away with poor diet, for now.
I couldn’t tell. The sense I got was that it doesn’t matter if you’re a fat slob and everyone around you is supposed to call you “beautiful”.
I would hope that it’s satire, buuut…
These guys are really dedicated if that’s the case.
And being a generous purveyor of derp here’s some more
I had no idea we rated First Daughters now.

Hell yes.

The politicians and Bill Weld are dealing with that last part…
Fascinating!
I remember someone of Mises forum claiming that the Zimmermann Telegram was a false flag. Considering Zimmermann admitted the truth of the Telegram I’m not sure how that works. He also claimed that the Lusitania, USS Liberty and The Gulf Tonkin were false flags as well so I’m not sure what his definition is.

Can anyone recommend a decent minimalist bag that can hold a laptop, charger, a few files, etc. I’m tired of hauling al my shit around in my normal bag.
I like this one and it would make Swiss happy.

*waggles eyebrows*
Not really but I can’t stand big bags either. I have half a dozen castoff bags in my closet. It took me forever to find a light bag that just fits a small laptop. It’s some Kenneth Cole thing I found at a discount store.
Orphans, have them carry your stuff, or skin them for the pelt and have them sewn into a fashionable bag. Come on Tundra it’s like you don’t shitlord.
Lol.
Sorry, off my game today.
Speaking of skinning things, OMG Donkeys Will Die Out!
Waiting for PETA to condemn Chinese “traditional medicine” hooey in 3… 2… 1….
Briefcase style or backpack? A bit spendy, but I use a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 with insert for daily use. The 19 is smaller but large enough for most 13″ laptops & manila folder/magazine sized papers. 15″ or 17″ laptops will probably not fit.
I have a backpack now. Not that big, but it still gets overloaded. I’m actually looking for a smaller thing to carry to meetings, shows, etc, where I need some stuff but don’t need all my crap. A sleeve isn’t enough – most briefcases are too much.
Shows?
Trade shows.
Of the burlesque variety?
But of course.
Did you look at this yet? If not, you get 10 demerit points on your Minesodan cred card.
It’s a little spendy, but if you wait a bit, I bet it’ll go on sale.
Looks heavy.
Meh, Tundra is a big strong hockey player.
But yes, for mere mortals like us, it does look a bit heavy.
How much did he pay you to say that?
*puts roll away*
What the fuck are you talking about?
Wisconsin company, but yeah.
Duluth Pack has some nice stuff, but heavy, too.
It is? Well shit, you have shattered my belief in retail branding.
Huh. Belleville, WI.
Sconies are such liars.
i used to get laptop bags for free every year when i visited conferences (as long as you didn’t mind some stupid corp logo on it, they were free) they were mostly shit
then i bought an Oakley bag when i was doing the ‘endlessly flying’-consulting thing. it was configured differently and had a super-robust padded strap which sold me.
it turned out to be awesome and i still use it all the time. its one of the handyest pieces of luggage i’ve ever owned, and built like a fucking tank
i think they sold them at the apple store. yeah, they look a little ‘funkier’ than your average corporate shoulder-bag, but trust me… I think the model i had was discontinued (this is the one)… check out the straps on them. they’re almost worth it just for that. they also have internal padding at the bottom, and the pockets/flaps etc are actually intelligently designed, so if you need like a pen or passport or whatever, you don’t need to open the whole thing up.
this seems to be the newest version of the same thing. if you can find one, highly recommended
i think its possible Oakley has a distribution deal w/ Apple, because i think the Apple-stores always had their shit. check them out if there’s one near you.
-i could talk for an hour about how fucking much i like that bag
1 – the vertical thing? is smart. esp on airplanes/cars. it slips between/under seats in ways horizonal-configurations don’t, really
2 – it has a large external vent pocket which is perfectly sized for a magazine, and it has a separate fold inside of that which is perfectly sized for airline tix.
3 – it has a little internal carabiner clip which is perfect for your keys, and prevents you having to dig into the bottom of some pocket
4 – has an assortment of mini-pockets on the inside which are perfect for adapters/plugs/cables/batteries/chargers/usb sticks etc so..again, you’re not sorting thru stuff; everything has its compartment. and they’re not cheaply made. they’ll hold tools/metal stuff w/o poking holes in the nylon.
5 – the top flap covers the zippers + inner pockets, so its basically like double-layered protection in rain or to any attempt for some 3rd party to get into it, but still leaves main compartment easily accessible
its also useful even w/o any computer. its just the right size to bring out for any reason, and you don’t look either like you’ve got a man-purse, or like you’re going to-from work.
can you tell i like the bag? I like the bag.
I appreciate your passion, but it appears you are the only one, since I can’t find the fucking thing anywhere!
How much for yours?
i think it was like $75 or so. i can’t remember. I expensed it.
here’s one on ebay. they say “new”
https://www.ebay.com/i/152828237382?chn=ps
seriously, for $60, assuming it is new (it still has tags in the pic, so…) you won’t be sorry
BUT! check with the seller to ensure its got the strap. I don’t see it pictured. fucking ebay sellers can be slimy that way. I recently got slightly hustled in a similar way
i wouldn’t be surprised if people routinely stole just the straps from those bags.
here’s one in grey for $57 ($17 shipping)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oakley-Vertical-Messenger-Shoulder-Bag-Laptop-/282776774498
Bag of Holding?
Those are cheaply made. Mine had the zipper start ripping out in under six months of use. The bag itself was otherwise decent, but no support, no warranty, and Thinkgeek not even supporting the product made me unhappy.
Wow. Thanks, all.
I have some shopping to do!
We have a game here!
I just hope Alabama don’t get blown out because if they do Sloopy is going to be insufferable tomorrow.
You’d better start removing the sand from your vagina now, just in case.
Cornbread is in the oven and the black eyed peas are simmering. The table is set – including the cane syrup. This will start the annual debate
Wife:. Why are drowning everything in syrup it’s gross.
Me:. No it’s not, you should try it.
Wife:. It just isn’t done. You look like trailer trash.
Actually, she’ll say “poor, white trash”
Yep. She did. I love family traditions.
My taste buds have changed over the years, and now I find drowning stuff in syrup makes it much too sweet.
This. Gross.
I also dump Louisiana hot sauce on this gives things a nice sweet and sour effect.
If you look like trailer trash, doesn’t that mean you should be beating her?
Alabama Man!
Heh. I’d lose. I’m bigger and stronger, but she’s way more viscous.
Hm. I like that in a woman.
Well, actually, your wife is right, that is disgusting.
2018 can’t end fast enough.
How’s life without plastic bags?
I have a shit ton of free, and a shit ton of the Grocery style bags, as well as all the others, Hell at least 23 types,
what happened to yours?
Rufus is from Montreal which just banned plastic bags.
Like Cali did? Ain’t no ban, now you buy them and save em for later, all small stores give out bags that are good for Trashcan liners and Poop,
Carry on, outwit the GOV
That fat head Coderre banned them. I hoarded bags as a big fuck you.
But luckily I live 20 minutes north of Mtl. and my city – as far as I know – still has them for a dime.
Science my ass.
Is your city an anglophone city?
There are no *official* Anglophone cities in Quebec. Heaven forbid. The nationalists would cry like the little insecure babies they are; especially the hicks in the PQ. The West Island is the defacto Anglo part of the city and City Hall treats it like it has leprosy. Except, surprise, there’s a lot of money there so they keep there grubby hands on it. My city is predominantly French with pockets of ‘Allophones’ (English speaking minorities). My business is still another 20 minutes further north and it’s the last ‘officially incorporated’ bilingual city and even there I wonder how long before they put a Logan bullet in that. All the original English-Scot families are pretty much gone – off to the West Island or Ontario.
It’s just the way the nationalist like it. Maudit Anglais!
I find it amusing that Montreal was back in 19th Century quite anglo for a Quebec City and for one with such a French name. They used to alternate anglo and francophone mayors. This ended when the city annexed more and more francophone parts of the Island of Montreal and by 1910 or so was quite French.
Jean-François Lisée or Philippe Couilard? Or death?
And what are the CAQ’s chances in October?
Lisee – there’s a winner.
The CAQ would be a good option but for me there are too many nationalists so no thanks.
Does Valerie Plante make you yearn for Coderre?
She’s a woman so she’s more likely to be open to sciency things. We’ll see. We own properties in Montreal and I think my parents voted for her. Not sure.
I keep the expectations low with Montreal mayors. They’re every bit as crony as their NY and Chicago counterparts. A really thoroughly corrupted city.
Ah Quebec corruption. I can’t help but wonder if the conquest helped contribute to this. The idea is that the Anglos are there to be bilked, they did conquer us after all. This is something both federalists and nationalists can agree with
The big, bad Anglos are all but gone now.
Now they just pointlessly shadow box against a language. Starbucks? Why, people it’s a question of respect! Les Cafes Starbucks!
You can but roll your eyes because I don’t see how it can possibly protect French doing things like that.
Just the other day I was talking to a friend who still clings to the idea Montreal is still just a couple of steps behind Toronto. Sorta like how Homer yelled ‘it’s still good, it’s still good!” chasing the pig with Bart. I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him to cut it out. It was over. We made our bed and Montreal ain’t ever coming back. We chose to play linguistic politics and that shit has wreaked havoc on the city. My Francophone brethren don’t agree or choose to not see it but it’s precisely how Montreal’s economy sank. NO ONE wants to put up with language laws. It’s just not worth it and so….they all head to Toronto – or even fricken shitty Ottawa.
He didn’t even bother to put up a fight because he knew it was true. Montreal is NOWHERE near Toronto now and never will be.
Interesting fact: TSX surpassed MSE back in 1934 apparently? It wasn’t until 1970s that Toronto surpassed Montreal as Canada’s biggest city (not sure about population though) which separatism contributed to in part. 1976 Montreal Olympics was in many ways the final hurrah for Montreal as Canada’s biggest city.
Also I remember hearing from a family friend how when he was younger he would hear in the press some Toronto boosters always trying to claim how Toronto was bigger than Montreal. Obviously this has changed.
Didn’t Drapeau make some comment about Montreal will always be like Florence despite Toronto surpassing it? Would you say we was being overly optimistic?
Ha. Montreal as Florence is absurd. We have no theatre district or real art galleries like you see in TO – where there’s money the art follows and flourishes. Montreal is all talk. Montreal is a bohemian-hip town if you consider that ‘Florence’.
Sooo, got my new mic up and running – Gilmore should be happy. Of course on this first new review – Thurs. 6 AM as usual – I tweaked a few other things – if you notice and comment, I’ll be suitably impressed. Need to get back in the reviewing mode and not just the viewing mode though.
Will post again with a link when it goes up!
Apparently no one wants to play defense tonight.
C’mon, put em uup…..
It going to be over 100 points scored in OU GA. Good lord
ESPN’s promos of players going to or coming back from commercials are vomit inducing.
Everytime a QB points through the screen at me I flip them off
You’re right on the shootout.
I only occasionally watch ESPN for soccer and there’s hardly any of that shit. The Euro feeds have none of it and the American games are pretty focused just on useful info.
For you Star Wars sequels haters: does this make you yearn for the prequels and Ewoks?
Nothing drives home that Star Wars is mostly an advertisement for toys like seeing in theaters the animated film clone wars film back in 07 or 08. I Grew up watching the prequels so I probably like them better than most, episode one was my first theatrical Star Wars I know it’s a dumb movie but I have a soft spot for it the way people a little older like bad movies such as space jam or the goonies. Also attack of the clones is for sure the worst of the main films. As bad as kid anakin is it is nothing compared to the soulless romance, kid boba fett acting, and completely incoherent plot. Who the hell ordered the army? and why the hell would they use it? I think what I like about Star Wars is I can talk to anybody about it and they likely would have some opinion and it would be a safe non political thing to talk about (until recently) also the old battlefront games were really cool.
The Prequels primary faults related to execution; I don’t think the main story of the PT was that bad. Ditto the Ewoks.
In The Force Awakens, we got a slightly recolored version of Star Wars 1977, with a near-flawless protagonist. She comes back in the second movie to fight Darth Emo. The new movie is chock full of incredible ideas: it turns out Rey’s origin story is that her parents met at the dog track, Leia’s force power is the ability to fly in hard vacuum, Luke can do holograms now, Snoke is just some guy, the female-led Resistance gets more people killed and can’t attract any new allies, the First Order can’t decide whether to toy with the Resistance or smash it. And there was an admiral with pink hair.
I’m going to the next two SW movies (Han Solo and Ep. 9) for the same reason certain people go to auto races.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Star Wars. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Joseph Campbell’s story structure the plot will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Han’s cynical outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization- his personal philosophy draws heavily from early film noir, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the saga, to realize that they’re not just fun adventure – they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the nuance in Lucas’ signature catchphrase “I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” which itself is a thematic reference to the early works of Raymond Chandler or Mickey Spillane. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as George Lucas’ genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. ?
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Star Wars tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid ?
That’s some spicy copypasta the Jr.
Darn it, I missed one!
Nothin personnel kid
Han used to work in HR before hanging out his shingle? Explains the bad attitude and willingness to shoot first.
Watching the special features and you hear people talk about Lucas in this creepy cultish way. Also it probably would be a good drinking game for the Star Wars commentaries or special features to take a shot every time Akira Kurasaw or Joseph Campbell were mentioned.
Star Wars always had some weird ideas. Samurai Camelot Laser Wizard Knights fight against White Imperialist Japanese Nixonite Nazis IN SPACE doing WWII-esque dogfights.
Always going to be a battle between rehashing old ideas that some might not like and new stuff that some might not like. At least both made money so Hollywood is happy.
Also Lucas should have realized that his idea that the Empire is the result of Evil Merchants was a not a good idea and not well shown even in the original.
Just watched Return of the Jedi this morning. I think people exaggerate the ewok problem. Sure they are humorous, and look like teddy bears. But they were going to eat the movies protagonists. They suffer casualties in the battle. They play drums on the armor of their fallen enemies for fucksake. In all it remains my favorite in the series just for the confrontation between Vader and Luke, with the emperor nailing the evil wizard vibe.
It’s hard to separate the Ewoks of ROTJ from the two Ewoks movies that I saw many times as a kid. Never hear much about either one these days.
Wookies would have been better, but probably a nightmare to shoot. Ewoks just needed a bit less cuddliness and they’d be perfectly unsettling feral creatures that should be cute but are just scary.
What prequels?
This guy gets it ^^^
At the very least, Yoda was a puppet.
I think the sequel trilogy was inevitably going to be disappointing. It isn’t going to be what a lot of people expected or wanted, you wanted to see your favorite characters again but you didn’t really want to see them old or passing the baton to a new generation or written with a new mentality. What people really wanted was episode 7 to be filmed in 1986 pulled right out of a vault anything else would be disappointing. But like Jurassic World (the park is open) the premise was tempting so inevitable success.
I’d be fine with good baton passing.
But that’s not what this was, by and large. There was a dearth of EU material that could be borrowed from, but the studio went safe and stupid. Case in Point, Rian directing the middle move but JJ doing the first and last one.
JJ wasn’t supposed to direct the third until the original director dropped out.
I thought he was fired.
It was the Jurassic world guy. He had a new movie this year book of Henry or something I heard it was awful.
It was the Jurassic World guy. Colin Trevorrow is his name. Didn’t follow the story enough to see if he quit or “quit”.
Book of henry got some interesting reviews.
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_book_of_henry/
But yeah it was enough, after looking into it, to scare off disney.
Is that right? I thought he always was. Well that just shows how much I’m paying attention.
I pay too much attention, I need some kind of hobby I end up reading too much fluff news and Facederp when I get bored.
I had a Great Walmart Dinner, Really good food, Cheap,

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sam-s-Choice-Mini-Fully-Loaded-Potato-Skins-9-ct-14-4-oz/43597062
And to keep to the Link Limit, Sams Club Hawaiian slider buns and Hamburger buns, With Walmart Cheddar cheese.
A Walmart Cherry Pie and some Walmart Ice cream,
Walmart…..
Wal-Mart has been making a big push into higher quality private branded stuff to counter Aldi and to put the squeeze on suppliers for the last year or so. When I worked at the corporate office, there were taste tests all the time to try the latest product. Free lunch.
The pulled Beef is amazing, and spiced so that I can have Mayo and Swiss, the wife has it with Ranch, and Jr. uses salsa, 6$ a pound
I can now get decent andouillie at my local Wal-Mart. That wasn’t true a few months ago.
Thanks to politics, I don’t have a local Wal-Mart.
I have a Neighborhood version, 3 minutes from my house, Good Produce and good cuts of meat, and Self Check out is awesome.
Walmarts around me, just talking about produce, consistently have better variety, more quantity, and better quality than any of the Giants, Safeways, or local chains, and they’re comparable to Whole Foods and Fresh Market but way, way cheaper. And while I’ve never bought meat at a Walmart, Sam’s Club’s meat and seafood sections are awesome. Not the absolute best in terms of quality, but as far as consistently offering the best bang for the buck they beat anyone. And yet the kind of people who use terms like “food desert” also do things like petition local governments to keep new Walmarts from opening.
The Walmarts around here are a step down from other grocery chains. So is the Whole Foods, but it’s Organic/Fair trade/whatever so it gets a pass I guess. Safeways vary widely but the two or three I go to regularly had great produce. Sadly the stores are being remodeled after the acquisition by Albertsons and the quality and layout are descending to Albertsons’ crappy standards.
I just eat their frozen dinners – Sams Club Carnitas are great. I love the massive mozzarella overloaded pizzas too (they just don’t fit in the fridge at my current place 🙁 ).
Double overtime?
*puts on tin foil hat*
It’s a helluva game
Wow. What a finish.
Seriously, that’s the best game I’ve watched in many years.
Riley blew it with the tight-ass playcalling down the stretch.
And now, like the Vikings will, Georgia will be playing for all the marbles at home.
Time for round 2.
Anyway I did see the Last Jedi. Was a bit too long and seemed more like a series of random stuff. It seemed to suffer from the Empire Strikes Back problem of moving along the narrative without really resolving anything (fun fact: Empire only became the Best One once it was easy to see all three on VHS). And the Phantom Menace problem with a bit too much happening on what appeared to be the climax on the First Order Ship. What was with Del Toro? I guess he’ll come back in the next one? And Luke died because Force projecting himself that far is really hard? OK, I guess? Kylo Ren planning on killing the Resistance and then the First Order is different, I guess.
McGill isn’t in a bowl game?
I’ve come to not like this trilogy because it basically had decided that the original trilogy events were almost irrelevant. Why re-hash the Empire/First Order vs. the scrappy rebels? What the hell was all that Death Star blowing-up for? Nothing? Nothing. It’s the same damned story. How about the Galactic Republic is restored but is threatened by a new evil or by a splinter group of Sith?
Isn’t that kind of what they are doing anyway?
How about the Republic and the Senate are restored but then slowly ground down by regulations and universal healthcare and further socialism?
Too soon?
That is supposed to be a bad thing? /Hollywood
I haven’t played the games in forever but i think that is what happened to the old republic.
I’ve come to not like this trilogy because it basically had decided that the original trilogy events were almost irrelevant. Why re-hash the Empire/First Order vs. the scrappy rebels? What the hell was all that Death Star blowing-up for? Nothing? Nothing.
Not nothing – 20 to 30 years of peace, which we don’t see, because the series is “Star Wars” and space battles make better viewing than sessions of the galactic senate. I agree that the new trilogy could be better, but any focus on the wars part of star wars is inevitably going to be a rehash, as they’ve pretty much done everything that can be done with a war story stuck in the lighthearted adventure genre.
Is there somewhere showing up many Glibs there are? As in how many registered users. Just curious.
I mean we’re all Tulpa, so it’s really just a bunch of sock accounts
I….uh…ummm…goddamnit. That was a good point. ?
For real, I think it was mentioned before. There’s like 200 active commenters and I think like 500 accounts total, but traffic to the site is higher than that. So we have a decent amount of regulars, a lot of lurkers and then some casual normies.
Ewww, normies!
IKR?
I AM Office Manager Mohammed! Enough with you’re INFIDEL Lies!
ALoooooLOlOlOOooo!
/Gambols off to play Yahtzee…
If I’m being honest, I’m not a fan of the whole OMM thing. *shrug*
But your NOT HONEST! You are INFIDEL! You have Closet feelings for OMM, admit and Submit!
Man, I think I’ve gained 5-10 pounds over the holidays. Hopefully they aren’t paying rent yet and I can evict them quickly.
I’m starting the Spring Challenge tomorrow. I need the remedial class, cuz I have a long way to go!
Wow the moon is bright enough tonight to drive without headlights. It’s cold as hell no clouds and there is snow to reflect the moon light.
I went to Billy the Kid’s grave today. It’s surrounded by a cage because the headstone has been stolen a few times.
This motel room unsettles me. My first thought upon walking in was “hmm, I wonder how many people were murdered here.” The unmade bed and full trash can were not encouraging. Nor was the other room key on the desk. The only thing missing from this place is a “TRANSIENTS WELCOME” sign.
The Pizza Hut receipt in the trash indicates the room was last occupied on the 29th. OK, so that guy survived.
Well, there’s a fridge, a bed, and the wifi works. It’ll do for tonight.
On a related topic, today I learned:
***
Cage hotels, a form of single room occupancy, were common in Chicago at the turn of the 20th century; an estimated 40,000 to 60,000 people lived in them during the winter.
These were lofts or other large, open buildings that were subdivided into tiny cubicles using boards or sheets of corrugated iron. Since these walls were always one to three feet short of the floor or ceiling, the open space was sealed off with chicken wire, hence the name “cage hotels.”[11]
A 1958 survey by Christopher Jencks found that homeless men preferred cage hotels over shelters for reasons of privacy and security.[12]
A similar preference for cage hotels over shelters was reported in turn of the century New York City, where single working men ranked their housing preference in the following order:
They preferred lodging and boarding houses to cages, cages to dormitories, dormitories to flops, and flops to the city’s shelters. Men could act on these preferences by moving as their incomes increased.[13]
“Regulatory efforts to combat low-cost ‘cage hotels,’ … [has been] a driver of the expansion of the homeless population in US cities”, according to Jencks.[14]

Bates Motel?
Last summer the fam drove out to the in-laws in Texas for a couple of weeks. We took our dogs, a grand total of 170 pounds of adopted pit and pit mix, because they’re too neurotic to be left at home without someone moving into the house in our absence, and we couldn’t find anyone. We wound up staying at a Motel 6 in Chatanooga.
A word about Motel 6. If you travel with pets, Motel 6 is amazing. They allow up to two “well-behaved” pets per room, no size limit, anything goes.
In the part of Chatanooga we stopped in, it turns out that having two large, intimidating dogs wasn’t a bad idea. Apparently we found ourselves in the shittier part of Chatanooga, and apparently, unbeknownst to either of us, that’s really saying something. Let’s just say that I slept fully-clothed, knives in either hand, closest to the door. And by “slept” I mean dozed in the lulls between the screaming match between the meth addicts in the parking lot.
I’m not too worried. It’s well below freezing and I appear to be the only guest. A family from India (?) runs the place.
It’s incredible how many motels are owned by people from India.
Is it a Patel family by chance?
I’ve heard that’s a thing. There’s some reason a lot of Indian families immigrate here and become motel franchisees.
Ah, here we go.
The TL;DR version is that most of them are part of a western Indian ethnic group that’s known for entrepreneurship and mercantilism, and starting in the 40s a lot of them left India to go abroad and start businesses. The motel industry especially in the US is one where you can get into it with a relatively minor investment and wind up owning land and a building where you can employ family at low cost and keep your own costs down since you can all just live in the motel. After a few years, the relatives now have experience in the industry and money saved up and can open their own up. Relatives and friends back home can immigrate and already know people in the business. And so on and so forth.
Buried close to Billy the Kid, a man who should be a hero to all libertarians:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucien_Maxwell
***
Lucien Bonaparte Maxwell (September 14, 1818 – July 25, 1875)[1] was a mountain man, rancher, scout[disambiguation needed], and farmer who at one point owned more than 1,700,000 acres (6,900 km2). Along with Thomas Catron and Ted Turner, Maxwell was one of the largest private landowners in United States history.
…
Maxwell was born in Kaskaskia, Illinois Territory, the son of Hugh Maxwell, an Irish immigrant, and Odile Menard, daughter of Pierre Menard, a French Canadian fur trader who had served as the first Lieutenant Governor of the State of Illinois. Lucien Maxwell learned something of the fur trading business from his maternal grandfather during his early teens, and his grandfather was Maxwell’s role model. And, like his famous grandfather, Maxwell left home at the age of fifteen. Maxwell’s cousin, Michel Branamour Menard established a trading post that ultimately grew into Galveston, Texas, and early neighbor Stephen Austin was the namesake of the capital of Texas. At age 17, after two years at the Vincentian college in Missouri, Lucien struck out on his own, heading west.
His father, Hugh Maxwell, had died that year, in 1834, and Lucien was ready to seek his fortune. He encountered and became fast friends with Kit Carson, who was almost nine years older. Both were to sign up with John C. Frémont in 1841 for western expeditions, with Carson serving as guide, and Maxwell as chief hunter.
…
Most everyone, servants, guests, and natives alike, seemed to hold Mr. Lucien “Max” Maxwell in very high regard; as evidenced by the fact that the house, and his desk which was always full of cash, bonds, and treasure, was never locked. When one friend suggested that he procure a safe for his valuables, Mr. Maxwell said, “If anyone would dare to steal from me, I should like to catch them!”

He was a real-life Ron Swanson.
one of the strangest things on twitter:
i follow Norm McDonald. He never seems to tweet, which is a mild disappointment, but which suits me fine as i only read the thing on random occasions.
today he’s live tweeting some ….canadian political thing. if he’s being funny, i don’t get the jokes. he’s been at it nonstop for… christ, DAYS. Literally days of 100s of tweets that are all about canadian politics, and can only be understood in sequence.
I think he’s writing a book. With Twitter. Maybe that’s the joke.
it starts with this

Rufus?
If there is a joke I guess it is that no Americans will understand what the fuck that means?
It’s Norm so who knows. On cursory examination I can’t find any jokes, but he may have buried them within the verbiage. Seems a fine primer on Quebec Separatism, with some affection for Levesque. Maybe he got drunk and decided go public on his love for Rene?
Basically, he seems to be into the period in Canadian history when Quebec nationalism began its ascent into developing political parties starting in the 1960s with the Quiet Revolution (the reference about the Church is that the QR tore off the ‘shackles’ of the Catholic Church who Duplessis aligned himself with and demanded to be ‘maitre chez nous’ – masters at home). Of which, the main players in this dynamic between the Church-secularism-nationalism and Federalism were Rene Levesque and Pierre Trudeau – with key players like, for example, Jean Lesage before them. The period was a rocky one where the terrorist group the FLQ kidnapped a British politician and murdered another Pierre Laporte. Of course, naturally one of the killers ended up being a professor in a university. This episode led to Trudeau’s infamous ‘just watch me’ after being asked about what he was going to do during the ‘October Crisis’. The result was the War Measures Act where Marshall Law was declared and tanks rolled into the streets of Montreal to catch a group of loser assholes.
As for Levesque himself, he came up with sovereignty-association (which really, is just decentralized Federalism since Quebec has a lot of power – for example it controls its own education, immigration and tax policies as well as adheres to the Civil Code), and was the impetus to the forming of the Parti Quebecois in 1976 that led to the famous Anglo (and businesses who mostly set up HQs in Montreal) to ‘flee’ down the 401 to Toronto. In 1980 we had our first referendum in which the ‘Oui’ side (separatists) were soundly beaten but I still remember the tension as an eight year-old. Montreal never recovered. Then in 1995, we had another and tensions were just as high and the ‘Oui’ side this time got 49%. It led to the question of is ’50 +1′ was enough to break up the country as well as ‘clarity’ laws because the PQ – thinking they were clever – worded the question like the weasels they are to fool people into thinking it’s ‘independence but not really so don’t worry but vote for us anyway’. Moreover, it was discovered they spoiled ballots.
We lost our liberty that day and Trudeau’s Charter is worded in such a manner only left-wing pinko could pull off. There is no real liberty here.
Anyway, Norm is more accurate than not.
And for all intents and purposes, Levesque was indeed a decent man. I don’t think the charge he was a ‘xenophobe’ was fair. There are indeed xenophobes and linguistic chauvinists in the PQ today. They say they aren’t but their actions speak louder than words. And they just simply have unhealthy fear of English.
I think Norm is doing his reading.
twitter is a strange place for a comedian to, suddenly and without any introduction, transcribe the entire history of Quebec separatism
A biology professor from San Jose State University recently argued in several tweets that “chromosomes don’t determine sex.”
The tweets were written in response to Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain, who had tweeted a picture of the XX and XY chromosomes as reminder of “how many genders there are.”
https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10309

One user questioned French’s arguments, countering that saying “‘Sex and gender aren’t the same thing,’ isn’t at all a genetic statement. It’s a questionable sociological construct.”
French, however, refused to engage in that debate, citing her academic credentials as a means of dismissing the comment out of hand.
“One thing I am not doing is arguing with someone whose basic premise is incorrect and tries to tell me that they know more about my science, in which I am an expert, than I do,” she wrote.

In a separate tweet on December 24, French added that she teaches “this sex determination stuff” to roughly 200 people every year, and “the gender identity bit” to approximately 40, expressing satisfaction that her response to Cain’s tweet reached “at least five times as many in 24 hours.”
Cain has since made his Twitter account private, but told Campus Reform that the decision was unrelated to the exchange.

Uh huh.
So it’s not “her” science, it’s just science, and it seems to indicate to the best we’ve been able to determine thus far through innumerable observations and experiments that, yes, chromosomes do indeed determine sex. Gender, at least to my mind, is a social construct and is not the same thing as sex, although it’s so common for the two to match across so many different societies that in most cases the two may as well be synonyms. There are a few indigenous cultures in the Pacific islands and southeast Asia where, allegedly, there are third genders corresponding roughly to “chick with a dick” or “woman who is basically a dude” depending on the parts. Maybe the (in)famous Thai ladyboy falls into this category in some sense.
It’s all sort of beside the point, though, because either gender is a synonym for sex, in which case a male who thinks he’s a woman trapped in a man’s body is just crazy, or gender is a social construct, in which case a male who requires surgery to “become” a woman is proving that his society believes gender is determined by physical sexual characteristics, not how you feel. If we lived in a society where some women had dongs and some didn’t, then you could be a male woman, but we don’t, so you can’t. A thing can’t be socially constructed by fiat. That’s not how societies work.
I saw a beer called Oklahoma Sucks today. I was tempted to buy it. In NM, I saw a brand that was just a plain gray can with “BEER” written on it. The burrito join next door had a health inspection plaque that said “needs improvement”. I ate 2 burritos from there.
As a young Airman, we used to work the mids out on WSMR and leave out a gate to Tularosa. There in town was an unassuming Donut Shop that made the best damn breakfast burritos ever. I am sure our pictures are still up if they are open. I am also positive they wouldn’t pass a health inspection but who cared…it was good old fashioned food made to order.
My “can’t go to the gym” workout- 10 to 30 reps each

single leg deadlift (bend at waist to touch floor while raising one leg parallel to floor)
hands behind head, raise knee and touch with alternate elbow
wide arm push up
reverse crunch
Russian twist
push up position, raise one hand straight up while turning to that side

Maybe The Moon is a story Maupin describes as ‘partly autobiographical’, despite the main character being a female heterosexual Jewish dwarf. The character was also based on his friend Tamara De Treaux, who played the title character in the 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.[23][24]

While flipping through the channels, I found an Israeli sitcom called Yid Life Crisis. I larfed.
Ah, remember when Salon.com wasn’t a left-wing clickbait gutter?
i glanced at their site. It seems to be more-commericialized than i remember, and less “shrieking retarded” (im sure its there, just buried beneath a veneer of sanity)
its possible they’ve changed owners (the OG people have lost $150m+ over the last 2 decades;) Or maybe its a new ‘strategy’.
