I hope everybody got the deals they were looking for on new (or gently used) sexbots. There’s a part of me that’s sad I didn’t go into teledildonics. There’s many a fortune to be made there.
KDW continues to be solid. I wish he would just give up and admit his libertarianism. Although, “aping”, bro. That’s why you couldn’t stay at The Atlantic. Which the managing editor must regret every time KDW publishes a column.

It depends on what we mean by see, I suppose.
To be fair, most on this site predicted, at worse, a thin Dem majority in the House if any and utterly rejected anything approaching the 30 seat gain widely predicted. Repeated allusions to any other views were widely, repeatedly laughed off. Indeed, forecast Dem gains (that understated the eventual 38) were consistently characterized as “projection.” It’s clear now who was projecting.
I’m not a Dem and I’m not predicting Trump’s loss; I’m not a liberal; Trump might even finally have a real land-side; I don’t claim to know. But it seems awfully early for Glibs to be gloating about their collective foresight. 90% of us were 90% wrong last month.
The ruling class was unprepared for Trump’s victory in 2016. They earnestly believed that he had no chance at all. They are not going to make the same mistake again.
I don’t recall exactly what I predicted as the Dems margin in the House (maybe 10?), so I think I was close on that one.
I called the McSally race wrong, wrongly assuming that a candidate who repeatedly insults their voters would be precluded from winning a close-ish race. Lesson learned (again): people are stupid and apparently crave to be ruled by people who despise them.
Trump’s margin was anti-Hillary voters, not pro-Trump voters. Whether he converts enough of them to pro-Trump voters remains to be seen, of course. As I recall, he didn’t really campaign for many House Repubs, but did come out for Senate Repubs (who still managed to underperform, IMO), so right now I’d say its not looking good. Of course, if the Dems manage to find a candidate as repellent as Hillary, he might win without converting voters to actually supporting him.
‘
And, of course, we are two years away and a lot can happen in two years. I would expect the current violent migrant attempts to breach our borders to increase his support, but the DemOp media is spinning it so hard as “Orange Man Mean” that I don’t know how it will play out.
She proved that negging the voters works.
As long you you are somewhat attractive.
There’s a decent chance they find a candidate as repellent as Hillary. There’s also a decent chance that the coming House clown show dampens some voter enthusiasm for the Donks.
This is where I’d put my money.
I disagree they need to budget for some clown noses to go with the free college and healthcare. I think it’s going to take Trump being gone before there is any blow back against the dems. Kinda the reverse of Obama.
As someone who’s first thought of Trump’s victory was Dem Victory in 2018 I will say that libertarians are just as guilty of everyone else in only seeing what they want to see (even me).
This was an utterly unremarkable midterm election. The Kavanaugh backlash may have won a senate seat or two, but that’s about it. I was off by a few, which, IMO, was pretty good for pulling numbers out of my ass based on poorly remembered lessons learned in poli sci class 10 years ago.
Honestly, the Trump election in 2016 wasnt all that remarkable when you strip all of the rhetoric away. The out of power party tends to win the presidency after a re-elected president terms out.
The exceptions in the 20th and 21st centuries tend to be few, explainable, and followed up by a change of power at the next election.
Teddy (re-elected R) – > Taft
-Roosevelt’s near destruction of the republican party results in a rebuke of his progressivism with the election of establishmentarian Taft.
Coolidge – > hoover
-death of harding in office makes this one a bit weird. Was Coolidge actually re-elected? Technically, no.
FDR – > Truman
-World War 2, nuff said
Dammit, fat fingered the reply button.
Reagan – > bush
-end of the cold War, extremely good economic times
Yep, a bloodbath for the party that holds the presidency is par for the course. A true blue wave would have entailed gaining even more seats in the house and control of the senate.
Old story, but new to me.
Muslims are the true feminists, via Huffington Post.
Yes, the Muslim women are so empowered they choose to be beaten or raped willingly if they leave the home without a male relative escort. And the female body is so sacred, a clitorectomy is needed as the clotoris defiles it.
Good grief, to think there’s Western people who are truly moved by this article. They will help ensure that the US and Europe are part of a new version of the Ottoman Empire by 2100.
They just want to put their feet up.

Irish Bobby will be back!
That rant from Correia was something,
Hello!
Yep.
Agreed, although I do think some of RC Dean skeptical points are warranted. That said, if the ‘right’ ever becomes as violent as the left loves to pretend they are now, it will be a very, very, unlovely day for the left. They will come to understand the meaning of ‘regret’ quite quickly.
Cyber Monday is disappointing so far.
I went to the kitchen section of Amazon. Under Armor lunch box? Pass.
Today is a good day to buy a sous vide stick, but I already have one.
Only one!?
I have a full sized water bath too.
So… make that 2.
Don’t worry, I already gave your wife Christmas suggestions. You’re getting the bluetooth model so you don’t have to get off the couch.
Will it make Cool Ranch Doritos?
You know he’ll only use it to make hot dogs.
His recipe is to just stick his hands in for 2 minutes. Its called Dirtiest Water Hot Dogs.
You misspelled “balls”.
You’re getting the bluetooth model so you don’t have to get off the couch.
That is the best kind of sexbot. But what did you do to her to make her teeth that color?
How much meat can you gently warm at a time?
Wait, don’t answer that.
The, ahem, stick capacity is limited only by the size of the container you use. However, if you’re going to do a quarter of beef at a time, you might want more than one stick.
So, let me see if I have this straight, It’s a stick that sits in a pot and gets warm. Can’t you just turn a burner on low?
You aren’t paying for the heating element. You are paying for the PID.
The overnight temp of my 12 quart stock pot on the smallest burner at the lowest setting is 164F.
Perfect for turkey thighs and not much else.
Pork shoulder. 48 hours.
Here, I just saved you $50.
“64°F – 94°F”
That will make a delicious duck l’botulism.
I’ve made a sous vide from electrical components. By the time you get it assembled and as robust as a COTS alternative, you’ve already spent more than the COTS alternative. And that assumes a labor cost of 0.
Have done the same and agree 100%.
Amazon has gotten comfortable.
Ring has been having a great sale on their cameras and alarm system, especially through Costco. I finally settled on their new alarm system to go with my cameras.
I’ve been surprised at Best Buy. It seems like they’re trying to turn around with better pricing and deals. Grabbed a new HP printer for 30 bucks to replace my dying one.
My wife just bought a pasta drying rack that will be my daughter’s Christmas gift to me. A little late for tonights pasta, but it will get a ton of use. Homemade pasta is massively superior to the boxed stuff.
Agreed, but I generally don’t ever eat pasta.
True but there are very good small companies making dry pastas. As for the big players: De Cecco is my go to.
One of my favourite type of pasta is sagnarelli:

Not this?
Pasta del Cazzo.
Lol.
“Democrats say next nominee can’t let Trump control the debate”
So they’re going to make it about…. identity politics? Good luck with that. I hear it’s a real winner.
And the midterms showed…?
That they weren’t a presidential election.
Voter fraud is more effective than identity politics.
It’s Trump’s election to lose; I’d counsel his keeping his head down and letting surrogates shout down Dem talking points as they come up.
“I’d counsel his keeping his head down”
Hahahahahaha. That’s about as likely as Trump having a good trade policy.
I watched Senna crash out of a race once he should have had won by miles: he pushed when, if anything, he should have been dialing back. I’m a risk/reward guy, but admittedly few take my advice.
The Movie is gruesome, and plenty of fia footage
+1 Vettel at the German Grand Prix.
And, I agree with you. I just don’t see Trump keeping his head down.
He didn’t choose “open mouth, step on dick” life, it chose him.
I dunno, he won by a small margin last time, was blessed by one of the worst candidates ever, he hasn’t achieved any of his big promises. If Democrats are smart enough to pick a blandly ethnic empty suit who can keep from committing more than three gaffes, I’d expect them to win. Not in a landslide, but enough.
That makes sense, but folks just don’t like change.
But I’ll admit I was shocked when GHWB41 wasn’t re-elected.
He timed his comments about the economy getting better on its own perfectly, setting up H. Ross to get 19% of the votes.
“he hasn’t achieved any of his big promises.”
Other than TEH WALL, the economy alone (if it continues) will carry him back into office.
I mean, what were his promises, and how has he personally failed to live up to them? He can’t get funding for a wall, but the crazy son-of-a-bitch has actually tried and the media has helped create the picture that he’s been tough on immigration, even if not all that much has really changed. He did his best to repeal the ACA, and actually succeeded at dismantling the most onerous aspects of it. American first economic policy is more vague, but I think its fair to say that he kept his promises there. And the economy has improved, and in part because of his policies.
Am I crazy to say that Trump has done more to live up to his campaign promises than any president in recent memory, at least? His harshest critics on the right (I’ll include libertarians here) would prefer that he hadn’t tried to live up to all those things, perhaps. But he’s tried. You can sit here all day and judge him as a politician, talking skill. But Trump has actually been pretty damn consistent with who he was on the campaign trail, both in terms of policy and tone.
He didn’t lock her up!
That’s a big one. At this point I cannot figure out if Trump fully understands the importance of fighting the Deep State. He might prefer not to, but I don’t think he has a choice.
The asshole above may be sarcastic, but I think that was his greatest mistake. Hillary broke a litany of laws. We have her staff at the State Department admitting that they were scheduling time with her based on donations to her foundation. The money she was taking while acting Secretary of State was absurd, and while some may claim the foundation was a brilliant loophole, when it comes to federal prosecutions, we regularly see prosecutors stretch the meaning of laws well beyond their initial scope. You didn’t even have to do that with Hillary – just apply the ones as written.
Trump caved there. He also gave the Russian story legs when he fired Flynn and gave them their first scalp.
Hillary belongs in jail as much as any politician I can recall.
Wall, repeal Obamacare, draining the swamp (including ‘lock her up’), obamacare repeal, renegotiate NAFTA to benefit US, terminate DACA, reduce immigration.
He tried, he failed. He did put some tariffs on China, so he might get some of the midwestern votes there, but “muh economy” won’t cut a lot of mustard if that’s all that he has to offer. If people wanted “Democrats with tax cuts”, poor old Jeb! was right there.
He positioned himself as a plain-talkin (hah!) winner who gets stuff done. An Alpha, if you will. If all he can show is “some tax cuts” and “stock market upp-ish!” he’s gonna lose as MAGA crowd ditches him for beta cuck he reveals himself to be.
If all he can show is “some tax cuts” and “stock market upp-ish!” he’s gonna lose as MAGA crowd ditches him for beta cuck he reveals himself to be.
Perhaps a little harsh. He did get 2 decent justices on the Supreme Court. More importantly, he stood his ground against the shitshow the Dems brought against Kavanaugh. I don’t think a single one of the 2016 Repub nominees would have continued to support Kavanugh in the face of that. That was why Trump was elected, and he did his job.
His standing up the Dems on Kavanaugh and following through on his promise to nominate solid SC picks will guarantee him continued MAGA support.
More importantly, he stood his ground against the shitshow the Dems brought against Kavanaugh.
Good point, that may have kept some of the voters around.
However, my theory was that Rape Play (and Abortions Circus before it) was done with one simple goal – pry as many white women as you can from Republicans. I’m curious if it worked, specifically among suburban crowd who may have held their nose in 2016 (and let’s face it, Hilary helped there) but didn’t like how he treated Ford, who was presented as One Of Them.
Ah, BBC has a good summary (unlike, say, Politico, which is all over the place). I forgot about Paris climate deal, and Bombing ISIS With Big Bombs, as two more promises kept.
Wall, repeal Obamacare,
Blocked by Congress.
draining the swamp (including ‘lock her up’),
Some progress, but disappointing. Total fail on prosecuting Hillary.
terminate DACA, reduce immigration.
Blocked by the courts.
renegotiate NAFTA to benefit US,
Done (at least on his terms).
Whether he should be held to task for things that were blocked by Congress or the courts is arguable. Congress, its the President’s job to do a deal, to a point. Whether any acceptable deal could have been made with Ryan and McCain on immigration and OCare, I doubt. The idea that any random district judge can set national policy is a real issue to me, and one that needs to be addressed (sadly, that would require Congress).
My initial take is that we recognize that federal district and circuit courts have geographic jurisdictions, and say that their rulings have no effect beyond their jurisdiction. You want courts to make rulings with national effect, then you need SCOTUS to make that ruling. So, if some judge in Hawaii wants to say that Trump can’t revoke the DACA EO, then it stays in effect in his district and only in his district. I haven’t thought this through much, but that’s where I’d start.
Whether he should be held to task for things that were blocked by Congress or the courts is arguable.
I think this is the key point of disagreement. Trump wasn’t elected by people deeply invested in policy debates, high school civic nerds or political junkies. His electorate wanted him To Do Stuff. They explicitly elected what they perceived as a political outsider who gives zero fucks and will fight dirty, using every possible tool, to deliver what he promised. And he said that’s what he’d do.
Instead, it’s the usual Republican “but muh circumstances, we just couldn’t” giving up, so why bother? Remember his margins – 0.7% in Pennsylvania, 1.2% in Florida, 0.23% in Michigan. He needs every single MAGA vote to stick just to have a shot, and if only 1 in 10 decides he’s a cowardly cuck, he’s done.
Instead, it’s the usual Republican “but muh circumstances, we just couldn’t” giving up, so why bother?
This. He’s going to try to argue his way into a second term when he really needs to use his handy pen and phone to make progress. He needs to directly challenge the defacto process of district courts getting veto power on his EOs. He needs to start cleaning house in all of the acronym agencies. He needs to announce a hiring freeze across the board.
Be a pain in the ass. Be a stick in the cogs. If you can’t get legislation through, wreak as much havoc as possible with the presidential power.
Silly boy.
You are speaking logically.
Not emotionally.
Do you think these ladies are being #thotaudited?
http://archive.is/F5Hi5
Attempt, and fail, to find meaning in these two-dimensional frauds.
Was reading that the thotaudit thing got started because the camera whores were infesting gaming sites and networks with their solicitations. If this is basically an anti-spam thing, then I’m a supporter.
The people doing it are awful, to be sure. Although, I still think sex workers should pay taxes the same as anyone else.
Damn right.
Taxation is theft and I’m opposed on principle to the existence of the IRS and an income tax. HOWEVER, I also believe in equal application of the law; so unless and until the 16th amendment gets repealed, if I have to file a W2, a slut who makes money getting naked has to file one too.
Don’t be a snitch to the taxman, though. Its not quite reporting a fugitive slave, but on that side of the good/bad spectrum.
Yeah, I don’t begrudge anyone saving on taxes. It’s just less wealth wasted by the government. I take under the table money wherever I can get it (mainly driving for Uber in my time off). And I always tip cash.
I’d expand that to “don’t snitch on any victimless crimes”.
I always always always tip cash.
And then write a racist comment on the receipt so the IRS believes they got zero.
Bunch of incel assholes who think they’re not getting any “because they’re too nice”. Fuck ’em. Won’t get anywhere anyways, since they’re not going to be able to successfully out anyone to the IRS without a real name and a SSN/TIN, neither of which they have.
Facial recognition zoftware, the IRS wants their money, 4chan just showed em a new source
they’re not going to be able to successfully out anyone to the IRS without a real name and a SSN/TIN,
If the 4chan autists get interested, I am confident they will indeed have real names and SSNs.
Banning Jesse Kelly exposes virulent anti-conservative bias that had gone unnoticed since the last prominent conservative they banned for no reason.
I heard Kelly argued the South wasn’t literal Nazi except even worse.
I also heard he was banned for talking A veteran out of committing suicide
From the comments, and I think this is square on:
I will say, as an employee at another large, progressive silicon valley tech company, that I thin the 4th point is overstated. The higher ups, and especially HR and legal don’t give a shit if they’re seen as left leaning. They see that as a consequence of their “social responsibility”
Yes, the days of neutrality and not wishing to offend any potential customers are somewhat over. A number of large companies from tech to airlines (look at how fast they pulled that NRA discount) to banking have abandoned that position.
Yeah, but there hasn’t been enough time for it to shake out. Only retards turn away huge groups of customers.
The bet is that they aren’t turning away those customers, because those are people who are most likely to shrug, say “private company” and keep on doing what they’ve been doing forever.
Besides, what do you do when an entire industry tells you to fuck off? It’s easy to switch from one airline to another. What do you do when 80% adopt the same policy? Start tacking on 2 hours of connecting flights to show your displeasure? Switch to choo-choos?
Besides, what do you do when an entire industry tells you to fuck off?
Be patient until the competition reacts. it’s not perfect, but I try not to give money to those who brag about how much they hate me.
This was one of the most bumbling, short-sighted business decisions in recent memory. If they would have just ridden out the storm they’d be guaranteed a fairly significant number of people as loyal customers for life, but instead they decided to capitulate to a relatively small bunch of screeching lunatics who can’t recall who the companies involved even were and have no money to spend with them anyway.
I like that KDW article. I’ve been watching a series of youtube videos from Epicurious where an expert on some food item does a blinded examination and has to pick which one is more expensive. I watch it because its can be interesting and most of the people clearly know what they are talking about. More Harold McGee, less Bobby Flay. But most of them are snobs about it. The bread guy knows he’s a snob and tries to atone a bit, explaining that cheap bread saved millions from starvation. It can be a real turn-off, but I’ll give the bread guy a pass because he at least has enough of a moral compass to know he should feel bad about being a shit.
The knife guy was great though. In KDW’s taxonomy, he’s refined, not a snob, repeatedly pointing out that the expensive knives look nice, but as tools they are usually inferior.
Some of the liquor snobs, er… connoisseurs, are the real deal.
Mythbusters had a guy who lined up something like 7 shots of cheap vodka in order, based on how many times they’d been passed through a Brita filter (activated charcoal).
After the 7th pass through the filter, he admitted that he couldn’t tell the difference between cheap vodka and the expensive control.
I’m going to have to try that.
It’s great for hangover control.
We used to do it all the time in college. Winner’s Cup vodka, the cheapest handle they had in Food 4 Less.
Just buy Sobieski: Cheap, good, and a hell of a lot less work than multipasses through a Brita.
I’m partial to Kirkland American vodka myself – cheap @ less than $14.00/1.75l and perfect for my martinis.
They sell Brita filters at Costco too!
I’ve never been a fan of vodka, basically for exactly that reason. “It tastes like nothing!!!” is the opposite of a selling point. Find a good cask, or make a good extract, and you’ll have my attention.
Every video that I’ve seen in this series has people who are the real deal in their profession. Which is why I watch it even when some of the people make my skin crawl.
It can be a plus if you want to spike a drink without the flavor of the liquor in question taking over. I put vodka, not rum, in my eggnog.
And I like Electric Lemonade when the weather is warm.
True in theory. In practice, I can’t think of any good cocktails where you don’t want to taste the liquor. They probably exist, and I know that the ability make a drink that tastes like candy and hits like a truck is important when you are trying to bag a college chick, but that’s not where I am in life.
if you want to spike a drink without the flavor
Brett??
I once watched a demonstration by a chef/owner from a nose-to-tail restaurant butcher a side of beef with a $10 knife from the grocery store. He went on at great length about how fancy knives are beautiful, but you are paying for appearances.
My only thought is, how much time did he spend sharpening that thing before that demo?
5 minutes tops.
Most cheapy supermarket knives are either 1) soft steel sold in mainstream sections of the store or 2) 1095 (or similar) sold in the “Ethnic” or “Asian” section.
Neither one would be terribly abrasion resistant, so neither take too long to sharpen.
1095 heat treated properly is awesome.
Go on…
Like watches.
I’ve seen the knife guy. He was pretty sharp.
So more and more evidence continues to be released in the Alabama mall shooting on Thursday, and all of it makes the cops look bad.
https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/2018/11/hoover-police-city-officials-vow-transparency-in-deadly-alabama-mall-shooting.html#incart_river_index
Wonder how long until they find/admit that the police shot the 18 year old bystander and the 12 year old girl bystander.
Was it by accident like that NYC shooting?
KED is a boor, the real cowboys I knew that actually ran farms listened to Metallia and Slayer, metal heads

I wonder how long Williamson would have lasted if he hadn’t made that abortion comment. He was supposed to be the token anti-Trump Conservative but would that have been too much for their readers.
I was hoping for better Cyber Monday ammo deals. Grafs has free shipping for orders over $100 – that’s the best I’ve found sop far.
Christ that’s a beautiful song.
Bowie was just amazing. Easily on of my favorite musicians.
Yet another MAGA-inspired hate crime in Drumpf’s America.
No mug shots. Can I safely assume that this Mister…ummm…Mohammed Mohammed is a foot soldier for the whitecisheteronormativeshitlordpatriarchy?
Is it a headline on CNN? If not, you can probably go ahead and safely assume this was not some guy with a name like Bubba.
I thought you were joking about the name….
He was just upset about lack of a tropical finger-food counter.
Canada is going to get screwed and hard:

I was waiting for the punchline and, lo and behold, there it was.
And you know that after their staff saw that, the SEC had to call in a contractor to clean all the jizz off of their cubicles.
Eh. They’re already filing with the SEC anyways if they want to sell securities in the US.
Trudeau is a horrible fuckface.
He just gave (bought) $595 million to some media outfit to fight ‘fake news’ or something.
I can’t believe how much I loathe the Liberals. It’s all about identity politics with those jerk offs.
They are our natural ruling elites though. And they are on the right side of all the cosmotarian issues.
Except as an non-Francophone Quebecker do you have much choice?
Those are the provincial Liberals. Another ball game.
I’m talking about the Federal Fuckos.
I believe most Anglophones and Allophones vote Liberal federally as well.
And yes I am aware that the provincial Liberals and Federal Liberals are separate and the Quebec Liberals are a bit more right-wing than the Federal and Ontario party (I wonder how the CAQ and the decline of the PQ will effect that..)
Canadian MSM will be even more toady like then ever
https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/600m-in-federal-funding-for-media-a-turning-point-in-the-plight-of-newspapers-in-canada
They want to protect independent news media by making them . . . not independent?
This is the Liberal Party. “Conscription if Necessary but not necessarily Conscription”, “Free Trade sucks when we are in opposition” and “Price and Wage controls are terrible only when are opponents propose it.”
That’s the one.
Morneau is another one who makes me want to hurl peas at my TV whenever I see his smug face.
Little fucker is married to the McCain’s. He’s a Bloomberg type. He’s all good and taken care of so he gets to play billionaire socialist.
So ‘State Media’ it is.
I wish, then at least when Tories get a turn they’d change the tune. But it’s “dismantle capitalism, down with Israel” whoever is in power.
More on the KDW article.
If you think of society as a column, the Democrats have an hourglass shape. Heavy at the top (well educated well paid knowledge worker elites) and thinner at the very bottom (City-dwelling / incarcerated minorities). Republicans are the fat lower-middle that takes up the rest of the space (rural, moderately educated, moderate incomes).
Post-Trump, that makes the Republicans a traditional party – they espouse rhetoric to their voters about how they are going to make their voter’s lot in life better. Often at the expense of the top or very bottom of the hourglass.
But the Democrats are this weird barbell shape. The policy elites, up at the top, put forward rhetoric about how they are going to help the bottom of the hourglass. After all, they aren’t going to get any sympathy when they put out hard luck stories of an ivy-league graduate banker that has to pay a bit more for his designer socks just so a factory in fly-over country stays open
But all the D policy prescriptions prioritize the top of the hourglass, often at the expense of the bottom. Who do you think Free College is going to impact more? The Occupy guy with an advanced degree in puppeteering, or a young black man sitting in jail? its only on things that help the bottom *at the expense of the middle* that the Democrats push, like a minimum wage hike. I can’t think of a single policy prescription by Team D that helps that bottom at the expense of the top.
What this means is, the Democratic party is the party of Tokenism. It wasn’t blacks and Hispanics who got on board the OC Express. It was white identitarian voters.
O’Rourke is the ne plus ultra token. He is in a superposition state – both a part of the minority group the Democrats need for their propaganda while simultaneously absolving the white upper-end of the hourglass of their indelible sins of being born white and privileged
O’Rourke is the ne plus ultra token. He is in a superposition state – both a part of the minority group the Democrats need for their propaganda
What minority is Robert Francis O’Rourke, spawn of Pat Francis O’Rourke and Melissa Martha O’Rourke (formerly Williams)?
He’s trans-racial. He was born white, but is a trans-latino, demonstrating to all the guilty white identiarians that there is hope for salvation from their original sin of being born white.
Only if they vote Democrat and even then, we all know the stain of whiteness can never be washed away.
Also, please do not deadname Beto.
*golf clap*
There isn’t a much better metaphor for the Democratic Party as a whole that their new dreamboat is a fabulously wealthy Ivy League cracker who pretends to be Mexican and whose daddy the judge got him out of legal hot water in his younger days.
And the pathetic attempts at skating really should have ended his career. He looked just like I did when I stumbled across my old skateboard a few years ago when helping my parents clean out their garage and I gingerly rolled down the driveway once or twice, fervently hoping that I didn’t fall off and break a bone.
Correct.
They say that when you make something idiot proof, the universe spins out a new, improved idiot. Maybe its the same thing with Trump. He is gifted with the most incompetent enemies. We said that Herself was the worst possible presidential candidate he could have run against. And the Universe says “Hold. My. Beer.”
Beto, slang for little Bob, probably went to elementary school with mexikds normal thing, nicknames
The bottom of the Dem hourglass used to be blue-collar workers (most of whom were White). They have turned hard on the White working class for not embracing identity politics, open borders, and for being White in the first place. Now the Dems openly espouse their plans to replace working whites with Third World peasants.
Why would anyone want to be a blue collar grunt when Nancy says they can be an artist?
I think I got turned around on the “snob” thing. It seems like a simple sub-set of identity politics that cuts both ways: a notion of sophistication on one hand and a rejection of it on the other. Or you might meet “snob” with “smug” as in Feinstein vs Falwell: professional posers . . . ever watch MSNBC or FoxNews with the sound off notice the ridiculous you-know-I’m-right grimaces and postures?
And I’m lost on the Ivy League comment: as if the Bushes and Trump went to Iowa State?
It was not his strongest point. He mentioned Dole, but the Dems of Dole’s generation often went to state schools too. McCain wasn’t Ivy, but USNA isn’t exactly Podunk State. I guess you could say the GOP hasn’t had a VP nominee with an Ivy pedigree since Bush – Quayle (DePauw, IUPUI), Kemp (Occidental/LB State), Cheney (flunked out of Yale, graduated from Wyoming), Palin (who the hell knows), Ryan (Miami OH), Pence (Hanover College, IUPUI)
its only on things that help the bottom *at the expense of the middle* that the Democrats push, like a minimum wage hike.
And even there, it really does a lot more damage to the bottom than help. I watched an interesting interview with Thomas Sowell last week. He pointed out that as late as the late-40s, black teen unemployment was lower than that of whites. It was dramatic increases in the minimum wage laws that pushed them out of the labor market. The “Fight for Fifteen” will likely do much the same. But, if you’re poor, getting that in in the labor market is crucial.
Pretty sure KDW is a libertarian – at least small L. He’s mentioned it a lot in his articles this year. Scroll back a few days and look at his awesome Thanksgiving article – https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/11/thanksgiving-abundance-worldly-goods-human-action/

Robert Francis O’Rourke, a.k.a. “Beto
I don’t get it. Is it like some derivative of ‘Roberto’?
The Democratic party is the political home of snobbery, a word and a concept often misunderstood. Snobbery does not refer to the cultivated preferences of those refined persons who order the ’82 Bordeaux because it is their mothers’ milk or who have an iTunes library full of Liszt because the sound of Cardi B fills them with discomfort and anxiety. The genuinely refined — particularly those cocooned by wealth — usually are not much interested in the enthusiasms or tastes of others, whereas the snob is obsessed with his own discernment relative to the low and vulgar tastes of those around him. The snob is the kind of man who sees a pair of Wranglers and sneers at the life he imagines they represent: $42,000 a year, tract house, SUV, work boots, Garth Brooks, Donald Trump.
So you’re saying snobbery often comes from being
indoctrinatededucated as opposed to working a trade.No. Snobbery is about status. Refinement is about hedonism.
Imagine the pants shitting that would have occurred if a rich, white, Irish trust fund baby took on a Latino nickname to run for office and was a Republican.

He’s like a Fakexican like Warren is Fauxcahontas.

I was thinking Italian, but Mexican gets more minority identity points.
I think its a nickname Mexicans sometimes hang on a “Roberto”. He grew up in El Paso (I think), so I can see that.
Of course, it makes him as much a Latino as my college nickname “Hound Dog” made me a blues guitarist.
an iTunes library full of Liszt
That is snobbery? Please… It should be either on a SACD or in a symphony hall.
Is “Beto” even a legit nickname? I’ve never, ever heard of anyone else being called “Beto”, and I’ve known (personally or from afar) a fair number of Latin guys named Roberto.
Oh yeah. Its even in Santa Claus and His Old Lady.
“on Chuy, on Tavo, come on Beto!”
Fair enough. I don’t live in Texas, so my point of view is limited, although I WAS an enlisted Marine and it always seemed like at least a third of the Marine Corps was Hispanic.

Thanks. This trip is pretty mundane. No actual blowing up of anything, just planning it.
Boring!
Is “Godspeed” one of the levels on the Teledildo? ‘Cause if it is, at least two of my girlfriends from the 80s would like a word. And possibly a free trial.

Quote of the day:
“That last ‘Thing” is the most disgusting display of humanity I have ever seen. It offended me both physicaly and emotional to know that such a thing exists on planet Earth. “I had to give up my 16 year old kid.” what she left out of that sentence is “…because I rather work at Disney world and live my life as a child than actually be an adult and take care of my kid.” AS a father of two I wanted to wring her disgusting 400 pound neck. I might have been more understanding if her situation had been she only ever knew a life as a Disney employee, but to come around and say you used to be a fucking nurse. I can tell you right now also as someone that also served in the Army, she clearly didn’t serve in any capacity that held one to bare the life of others on her shoulders. Otherwise she’d have actual respect over all others compared to her own. I just can’t wrap my head around someone so childish as to actually trade their child for an amusement park. I honestly hope this kid she has realizes the switch that has been made and disowns this 400-600 pound sack of shit.”

Clearly, Disney needs to do the right thing and stop making those obscene profits by shutting down completely and putting those fat bitches out of work.
Democrats Learn a Big Lesson for 2020 Vote About Taking on Trump
But have they really?
The uncomfortable lesson for Democratic strategists is that large areas of the country embrace Trump’s bluster and nationalist message centered on fears of illegal immigration, crime and globalization.
As opposed the relentless fear-mongering of Democrats/leftists about Der Drumpenfuhrer.
That fucking Trump and his bullshit sub 4% employment rate. I assume his chances of losing are 10x the unemployment rate on November 1, 2020. If it is still under 5% he probably wins, if it is over 5% he probably loses.
“Schweizer’s book, based on extensive research, says that Obama acted to regulate certain industries in such a way that the regulations lowered the value of some of the companies, wrote Katelyn Caralle of the Washington Examiner. These actions let two family friends to profit handsomely on deals through their own investment firm.
Here’s how it worked: Obama buddies Marty Nesbitt and Harreld Kirkpatrick III formed a private equity investment firm called Vistria, right around the time Obama was re-elected in 2012.
Nothing wrong with that, except, as Schweizer notes in his book, “A curious pattern began to emerge. Obama and his administration would attack industries with government power, which led to substantially lower valuations for these companies. Nesbitt and Vistria, or others close to Obama, could then acquire those assets for pennies on the dollar.”
https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/think-obama-administration-wasnt-corrupt-think-again/
Not that Surprising really. I was reading an article that went over how Trump has actually prosecuted more drone strikes in the 1st two years than Obama did in his first 2 years, but it doesn’t seem to get much attention. Nothing really changes, I think it’s called “Stability” and we should be grateful for it…

Quick thought experiment:
In the USA if you wear the Hijab will you be stoned? If you decide to do the Free the Nipple protest will you be stoned?
ok, same question but in Saudi Arabia?
I think that should give some information on which society has the free-er women. If you want to dress modestly, by all means do so, but don’t twist a society that enforces such things as “Not a repressive patriarchy”.
Obviously this person has a college degree and is incapable of such analytical thinking.
I guess she’s never seen the videos of the Saudi religious police correcting those women who are being immodest by showing too much hair or leg. If a woman chooses to wear the hijab and dress modestly, sure, but many of them are coerced into it in the most brutal ways imaginable.
Woman who wear hijab have freed themselves from a man’s and a society’s judgmental gaze
Managing to avoid entirely whether the hijab itself was created and implemented by women for their purposes, or by men for their purposes (hint: its the latter), whether women in Muslim countries are free to decline the hijab (hint: in many places, I think its legally required), and whether women in non-Muslim countries are pressured, and to what degree, by men to wear the hijab (hint: I suspect that they are heavily pressured by men). I’m having a hard time seeing how clothing invented by men for their purposes, which is legally required and or heavily pressured by men, isn’t patriarchal as hell.
Not gonna click, but does this mean she will be converting to Islam and donning the hijab? Because if she doesn’t convert but wears it anyway, wouldn’t that be verboten cultural appropriation?
They’ve also freed themselves from a man’s and a society’s judgmental driving.

Colorado Embraces EV Tar Baby
California wannabes. Sad.
I but my fossil fuels over there, not right here, so, you see, it’s zero emissions right here!
My bil is a hardcore watermelon with an EV fetish. He simply cannot grasp the concept of outsourced emissions.
Its well known that unicorn farts are CO2-free. Science!
But the methane is 600 times worse.
There isn’t a Four Corners Steam Plant in Southern California????
What kind of name is Yossarian?
EV is stupid,
but pettiness isn’t required to make the case. If the utterer knows anything about Colorado, he already knows that “Hickenlooper” sounds like he belongs in Colorado as much as any white man does.
EV may or may not be stupid. For my driving (commuting and running errands in town) it would work fine (mostly). Whether it would save me any money, I couldn’t say without looking at what it would do to my electric bill. Would it reduce emissions? Eh, maybe a little, depending on where my utility gets its electricity.
The pure EVs have improved, marginally over time, as battery technology has improved. EVs aren’t going to be non-stupid as the only family car(s) until battery technology takes a quantum leap, though. If I were to need to go from Tucson to Phoenix, even the best current EV couldn’t do a roundtrip without recharging, and might not do what I need in Phoenix before coming back without recharging. So, if I had an EV, I couldn’t use it for this Friday’s trip to Phoenix, and if Mrs. Dean had a full day of driving planned for Friday, we’d have to rent a car.
I think fundamentally they are still a third car, perhaps a second car, for most families.

Why Spiritual People Are More Inclined to Embrace Free Markets Than Materialists
Interesting thought, but I enjoyed the butt-hurt in the comments best.
“In his 1993 book The Catholic Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, the late Christian philosopher Michael Novak wrote that certain cultures are more likely to favor capitalism.”
I took a behavioral Econ Class and one of the Guest Lecturers who came in talked about Game Theory and the social “Experiments” that they had run with different games. What they had found is that for games that can have several Equilibrium (depending on players preferences) more capitalistic societies tended to favor “fair” and “cooperative” outcomes over other societies. Of course that doesn’t say weather the Market leads to people wanting to cooperate and be fair with each other, or that societies that value fairness or Cooperation are places where markets can thrive, or some other reason that influences both.
So i’ve been Playing Hearts of Iron 4, which is a significant improvement over Hearts of Iron 3. I’m surprised Paradox could get away (in this day and age) with creating a game that not only lets you play as any Fascist state, but lets it have mechanics that make them Fun to play and.. dare i say it.. that you could actually win playing as Germany.
I have HOI 4 in my Steam library but I haven’t played it yet. It’s a great series, up there with Europa Universalis and the Total War stuff IMHO.
I appreciate considerable de-autisming that Hoi4 represents, but yes, fascist is the best, if you actually want to play the game. And US is an annoying busybody who needs to let South America deal with its own shit.
I only finished one game so far, Poland from Rhine to Japan (included), non-aligned. Because my man Taureor taught me nothing is impossible in this game.
Oh and for a slightly less scripted experience, check out the Kaiserreich mod. Premise is that Germany won WW1, and Communists didn’t take Russia, so instead of “Fascist”, “Democratic” and “Communist” you get stuff like “Syndicalist”, “National Populists”, “Paternal Democrats”, and yes, there’s “Free Market Liberals”. France and UK became Syndicalists, King scuppered off to Canada and President to North Africa, and you can try to retake them. And, one of the more recent updates added playable Papal State, so you can EU in your Hoi4.
I did enjoy this passage from that Williamson article, since every time I hear someone going on about presidential politics, actual policies are never discussed, just style, “mean,” “nice,” etc:
“The progressive mourning of the passing of the Obama era is rarely if ever about policies or decisions coming out of the Oval Office but about what progressives thought they saw of themselves in the mirror of his public persona: “President Barack Obama, a model of grace, dignity, and class, will be missed”; “The Obamas were a master class in dignity and civility”; “I will remember President Obama for his dignity”; “We’ll miss grace, dignity of Obama family.””
Bleurgh.
Used to like her.
My mother has an Obama coffee table book in her living room. She tried to hide it from me so I didn’t get to peruse it, but the cover alone was nausea inducing.
If you had found it….. what would you really have done with it?
There would have been questions, such as:
“Which chapter covers the wars he started?”
There’s a reason she moved it.
You’re far more mature than I.

Please tell me you opened it and drew many penises throughout. With a permanent marker.
Generally, people who buy books like that don’t read them. They display them. You could draw whatever you want inside and no one would ever know.
Well, he did read Elizabeth Warren’s autobiography, and he wasted no time in telling everyone how she proved beyond any doubt whatsoever that the financial crisis was caused by radical deregulation of banks by Republicans.
Why, this book confirms exactly what I wanted it to!
It scares me how effective Obama was at marketing and advertising. I’ve tried so fucking hard to explain to his supporters some of the bad things that he did (things that they should oppose according to their own stated principles) but to no avail; they’ve been thoroughly indoctrinated to see him as not only a perfect president but a dear personal friend.
I’ll never forget the display I saw last Christmas when a relative’s girlfriend was harping on about his allegedly wonderful speaking ability. She said, “Oh my god, whenever I’d hear him speak, he would just take me awaaaaaaaay!!!” and threw her head back in ecstasy. I’m not making this up. It was horrifying.
Every time I’m in a political discussion with an Obama supporter, I try to confront them with the numerous things he did that they claimed to be against (national surveillance shit, warmongering in the Middle East, deporting tons of illegal immigrants, etc) but they just won’t admit that he was anything less than a perfect president. If I really refuse to let up on it, they’ll eventually get this despondent look; the kind of look someone would give if you told them that their spouse was cheating and they knew it but didn’t want to admit it.
I mean, how effective did he have to be personally? You don’t talk about certain things and the majority of people who cover you don’t ask inconvenient questions.
Is there a single Republican anywhere in the country who could be elected and face less scrutiny?
Nobody cares though. George W. Bush was under a ton of scrutiny and got re-elected.
Handsome and likable and seems like he cares. That’s all it takes.
Handsome and likable and seems like he cares.

From the KDW article:
The genuinely refined — particularly those cocooned by wealth — usually are not much interested in the enthusiasms or tastes of others, whereas the snob is obsessed with his own discernment relative to the low and vulgar tastes of those around him.
This fits with something I’ve said a few times. One of the really pathetic things about the snobbery of the cosmopolitan progressives is how low rent it really is. It’s not really much from better or more refined knowledge or sophistication about ideas or elements of the culture. My guess is that if I were to mention Liszt to many of them, they’d think I was referring to a chocolate and if I were to bring up Aeneas and Dido to them, they’d wonder who the R&B star’s new boyfriend was. No, it’s largely about little more than tastes in consumer products. Do you shop at the right stores and follow the right fads. Mouthing the right political shibboleths is about the only element of the ideology that transcends a shopping list. A reasonably astute kid without much of a formal education could pretty much learn the spiel listening to NPR and surfing the internet for a couple of weeks.
Also, the innumeracy and illiteracy about any science that can’t be FUCKING LOVED or somehow connected to global warming.

So I just crunched the numbers on California’s congressional voting. The Dems won 66% of the vote but got 85% of the seats. If representation were proportional, the GOP would have got 10 more seats. When do we start complaining about gerrymandering?
I didn’t vote and I have no representation. Of course, this is in contrast to those that voted and think they have representation.
Massachusetts invented gerrymandering. Nobody complains about it here. The GOP received 36% of the vote in the US Senate* election, but none of the 10 MA seats in the House of Representatives belong to them.
*In several congressional districts there were no Republican candidates, so the Senate seat vote is the best I can come up with to estimate the political party preferences in the state.
All it takes is a consistent 50% + 1 to keep a machine running.
“NASA’s new Mars mission just landed — and it could reveal why Earth is habitable but the red planet is not”
They didn’t need a robot, I got this. It’s 150 million miles further from the sun. Duh.
Not after we get done global-warming the shit of out it. MMGA!
Could have something to do with the 95% carbon dioxide atmosphere…
Actually if you moved the earth out to Mars Orbit it would still likely be habitable, at least from a temperature perspective. Sure it would be colder but even Mars of today with it’s incredibly thin atmosphere has temperatures warm enough for liquid water occasionally , daytime highs at the equator can reach 68 degrees F. With a much thicker atmosphere like earth liquid water around the equator would be the norm. What we do not know however is whether being moved the extra distance out would result in other changes in the atmospheric composition that would render the planet uninhabitable.
My guess is that if Earth were moved out to Mars orbital distance with everything else remaining the same the polar ice caps would stretch down to about Miami in the Summer and touch the tropics in the Winter but in the tropics you could sustain life with a climate similar to probably something like Anchorage Alaska in the summer all year long.

Republicans are hand waving this just like they did Obama but I see danger signs.
The reason democrats are excited is because he is popular in Texas. And Trump isn’t. He came within 3 points of Cruz and Cruz is way more popular than Trump in Texas. Blew the doors off him in the last primaries.
Also he’s a blank slate. has done nothing. Exactly what you need in an electable politician now.
Ultimately I think he would fall short, but if he gets popular enough republicans are fucked.
+1 “community organizer”
The democrats may have screwed themselves this time, however, by undoing the rules that prevented them from having trump and Bernie style candidates come out of the primaries.
They were constantly plaguing themselves with extremist and populist nutcases before they added superdelegate rules.
It’s going to be amusing to see the go backwards and realize why they had those rules in the first place.

I don’t think the “ethnic” parts of the democrat party are going to sit down, shut up and take another white-bread candidate, even if he’s transitioning and gets sweet, sweet media coverage. Either put some time in, or belong to an oppressed class.
That’s actually a good point. If he can have dug up an ethnicity better than the Beto scam that would help.
Obama had an ability to turn out the minority vote in record numbers. Fucking Beto would not.
The powers that be in the Democratic party want another minority candidate.
Sorry to tell all of you, but it’s still her turn.
Daaaym, if they really think that,
a) my estimation of Trump 2n term just went to “better than coinflip”
b) they’re gonna have a civil war in the party at all the levels
Heh, I’ve been thinking that for a while now. If she’s still abreathin’ she’s arunnin’ and the powers that be will ram her down the Dem’s throats again.
Enh, if there’s anything the Dems are good at, it’s falling in line.
She’s already said she’s running. People around her have already said she’s running. And if she’s running, she’s not going to be even more embarrassed a third time by not getting another shot at Trump. I don’t care how many Betas, Kamalas, and Bookers need to wind up in the bottom of the Potomac, there’s plenty of room down there.
Enh, if there’s anything the Dems are good at, it’s falling in line.
And yet, Occasional-Cortex, local Latina with no experience or patronage primaried the parachuted-in Party Machine Man who was guaranteed the seat.
No, it wasn’t Democratic Socialism what done it.
I doubt more than 5% of her new constituency could have even named their current Congressman on primary day.
But I did have her in mind: she will raise a stink that Clinton’s a “centrist” but when it comes down to election time and Clinton is the nominee, suddenly they’ll be BFF’s.
she will raise a stink that Clinton’s a “centrist” but when it comes down to election time and Clinton is the nominee, suddenly they’ll be BFF’s.

Conservatives did. A lot of Democrats came out of the woodwork to “defend” him saying the story was exaggerated and she was really worth only a few hundred million.
“The system is rigged.” True enough, but I don’t think he was talking about the banking, regulatory or university systems.

http://www.barrelstrength.com/2018/11/26/why-nationalism-is-necessary-for-being-human-and-liberal/
It’s an interesting take, isn’t it?
I wonder if the human race will ever make the leap to supernationalism whilst still finding a way to embrace the dignity of the individual and the consent of the governed as bedrock values. My gut says “Never gonna happen.”
The elites want this; hence the demonization of “nationalism”. The same argument plays out at lower levels of government, too. Pushes for “metro government” come to mind.
Circus is getting ramped up here in Charlottesville. Just in time for the holidays.
Can’t believe they’re trying to up the charges, let alone hit him on Murder 1. IANAL but given the circumstances, this is asking for a hung jury, etc – and IIRC he couldn’t be charged for the same “murder” charge by the Feds (or does double jeopardy not work that way?)
I just want to know what actually happened. If this sheds some light on that, I’d be impressed.
Videos seemed to that people were hitting his car with clubs/bats before he ran over the DSA lady.
Well, on the other hand, it could be a ploy to let him walk. Thats my tin-foil turban theory about UC cop Ray Tensing, and the DA’s insistence on over-indicting each time.
It’s one charge of several (eight? ten?), and the article says that five of them carry up to life penalty each, so I don’t think he’s walking. Maybe best of both worlds, put him in prison for life, while he dodges murder charge and Antifa can ramp up another round of rioting?
They can charge him all they want, but they’ll have a heckuva job proving most of those – and it’ll probably wind up being pretty messy for the local council, police, etc in terms of liability, blame, etc (if he has a half-decent lawyer). I still want an explanation why nobody raised the bollards and blocked all traffic on the cross streets? That should be the absolute first step for any kind of public gathering in that kind of space.
Feds will try him for civil rights violations (hate crimes). They don’t have jurisdiction over the murder charge, not that the US Attorney wouldn’t love a shot at convicting him on murder as a resume builder.
