Not much of an NHL slate last night. The winners were Washington, Nashville and Anaheim. The Buckeyes took care of intrastate rival Cincinnati on the road last night even though the officials tried everything they could to screw them over. And across the pond, there was only one surprise in the UCL games, and that was ManUre beating Juventus. Now they face Man City this weekend, who would like nothing better than to drive Mourinho out of town. But based on recent form, I think he survives a while longer, if not for the entire season.
Today’s birthday roster features the infamous Romanian Vlad the Impaler, astronomer Edmond Halley, author (this one’s an interesting coincidence) Bram Stoker, board game maker Milton Bradley, psychiatrist Hermann Rorshhach, southern author Margaret Mitchell, hero to math nerds Jack Kilby, rocker Doc Green, rocker Roy Wood, gun rights advocate Wayne LaPierre, drummer Terry Lee Miall, chef and character-asshole Gordon Ramsay, bad boob job recipient Tara Reid, and actress Parker Posey.
Its also the day the following took place: Cortez met Montezuma for the first time, Benjamin Franklin opened the first library in the colonies, Elijah Craig distilled the first batch of bourbon whiskey from corn, the failed Beer Hall Putsch took place, “Mutuny On The Bounty” hit the screen, and LBJ gave the NFL an antitrust exemption. There were also a bunch of election results, but those are boring.
OK, on to…the links!
Jim Acosta was banned from the White House after being a disruptive dick and pushing a female staffer during a press conference yesterday.
Some nut job killed a dozen people in California (where they have strict gun laws, so I assume he came from Indiana). Expect there to be more calls to take your rights away. And expect the newly-minted Democrat majority in the House to put it to a vote.
“Antifa are the people who fought Franco. And they’re here to fight fascism as well.” What, by storming Tucker Carlson’s home?
Jeff Sessions is out as Attorney General. And the left are flipping the fuck out because his temporary replacement once said he thought Mueller was overstepping his authority and that Rosenstein needed to reel him in.
Yes, but more importantly, was there the correct amount of diversity on the bus? And will the deceased be replaced by another “woman of color”? And not an Asian this time, since they may as well be white.
Taking the law into one’s own hands can be dangerous. But when the law takes the law into the law’s own hands, it gets really messy.
Tesla has a new chairman of the board. I’m curious how far up his ass Musk’s arm goes. Either way, hiring a telecom exec to head your car manufacturing company probably won’t solve the structural assembly issues you’re having. So, best of luck with that move.
I really like this group. They are vastly underrated. And with hair like that they couldn’t get airplay today. SO embrace the generation.
Now have a great day. I’ve got an auction in 4 hours. It’s my biggest solo one to date.
“Antifa are the people who fought Franco. And they’re here to fight fascism as well.” What, by storming Tucker Carlson’s home?
A home he sold 18 months ago, is what I heard,
Antifa’s Official Mascot is the racoon: attacks garbage cans, hit by cars
Baby steps. Soon they will attack heavily armed right wing militias
Is that right? So there were some other poor schleps peeking out from behind their curtains wondering what the fuck was going on?
Bang up fucking job they did, too. He was still in power after Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini.
Rumor has it his bow ties double as ninja stars.
So Antifa, the people who fought Franco, are ………Republicans? Whoa!
Antifa are the people who fought Franco.
I can guarantee you that not one of the retarded twats LARPing the good ol’ days of ’70s campus protests has one single fucking clue who Francisco Franco was.
“He’s the spaghettis guy, right?”
-college student
That’s Chef Boy-am-I-Hungry you’re thinking of
No, he means (changes to jingle singing voice) “Franco-American’s Uh-Oh, SpagettiOs”!
You know who did know who Franco was?
Mrs. Franco?
Ernest Hemingway?
Chef Boyardee?
Seth Rogan?
Chevy Chase?
“This just in, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!”
+1 screaming Garret Morris
Mike Piazza?
I can also guarantee you that they would pee their pants and run for France if they actually encountered one of Franco’s brigades.
Franco would have gunned them down like dogs and disappeared the survivors. Comparing Carlson to him is just silly.
No one in Antifa today has any connection whatsoever to those who fought Franco unless by ‘we’ they mean communists.
Red shirts desperately looking for brown shirts, while pretending the brown shirts are “right-wing” instead of just anther branch of socialism which has as its major crime that the people that belong to these brown shirts are accidentally just slightly left of people like Marx, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, the NK Kims, Castro, and a slew of lesser murderous monsters.
My grandfather and his family responded to the evilness and monstrosities that were Franco’s forces and the Republicans (where all the commies were) by bailing from their homes in Espana. Do these antifa types really wanna go back there?
James Franco?
They don’t like him either. He told a woman who had agreed to appear nude in a film that she had to appear nude or be fired. So he’s a rapist.
(And how awful do you have to be to make people want to defend James Franco?)
He taught a class on sex scenes and got frisky with his students. SHOCKING.
Well, the Anti-fascists who fought Franco were commies suspected of wanting to destroy traditional culture, so on one dimension it checks out.
What was delightful was flipping through the radio this morning during my commute. The TO shooter was a conservative white male, an Arab terrorist, or a disaffected loner, depending on what station I was listening to.
Who’s saying the Beer Hall Putsch failed?
so he had multiple personality disorder? If they did not close the loony bins he would be there not armed on the streets.

Waaaitiminnit – I thought it was someone who hated C&W music.
::does the two-step::
Both kinds?
Are you sure this is the place?
Country music is songs about your ex wife, and western is songs about your dead horse, right?
Country is songs about your ex wife, your dog, or your truck
Western is songs about that girl you are still pining for decades later, your horse, or the open prairie

Holtby stole one from the Pens last night.
After hearing more gunfire, Helus and the Highway Patrol officer entered the building and Helus “was struck multiple times with gunfire,” according to Dean.
I’ll give “hero” to that guy considering he didn’t cower outside in a corner like you know who.
Uffda. Trump singles out ex-Congressman of Tundra and I for some final mockery.
This is so sweet because Paulsen has always been a establishment hack through and through. He was so sure that distancing himself from Trump would save his precious seat.
Haha! I doubt we will be able to tell that he’s gone.
I’m just giggling because Paulsen was such a toady. His only reason for wanting to be a Congressman was to be a Congressman and be important.
I see him sitting in his dark basement watching and rewinding that clip over and over again. Wondering how he lost his precious.
It will be interesting to see if Dean Phillips decides to also be a shadow Congressman and do not much or if he decides he wants to be the new Paul Wellstone.
Trump singled out Mike Coffman too. He was a rep from the Denver area who didn’t want Trump campaigning for him. Which is too bad, because the protests in Denver would have been awesome if Trump went there for a rally. Trump said, “Too bad Mike” about his loss in the speech yesterday. Cracked me up.
Especially funny since the Senate candidates Trump campaigned for did well.
I really like this group. They are vastly underrated.
That’s overselling it I think, they achieved colossal commercial success despite getting no respect from the critics. Turn to Stone is one of the best album openers of all time though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl-IErWc4U0
Had to go back to see if the group being talked about was Barnstorm.
Just Don’t Bring Me Down
Good choices.
Don’t know their albums (“Very Best Of” FTW…) but that song is killer.

“Blue Days Black Nights” shout out to Buddy Holly.
I’m a fan. Listen to “poker” trust me.
Jim Acosta was banned from the White House after being a disruptive dick and pushing a female staffer during a press conference yesterday.
It’s about fucking time. I’m sure we will hear all about how this is an affront to 1A even though it literally is not.
Disruptive dick. Check. Pushing. Check. After the Lewandowski bullshit where he was claimed to have raped a reporter’s arm, I’m just not ready to call what Acosta did the killing of Archduke Ferdinand. Yank his creds and leave it at that.
^This right here. Unprofessional slimeball, but Gravrilo Princip he is not.
One of his tweets was complaining about being banned from the WH for his 8pm hit. While I’m sure that’s a valid phrase, a) it completely apt with what he does and b) other than attending a press conference and interviewing staffer, press shouldn’t be at the WH. They definitely should not be provided offices or doing segments from the grounds. Rent your own fucking office space CNN. Stop leaching out of my taxpayer wallet.
Do reporters always call it a “hit”? More like Hit Job….
That and flying the assholes all over the country/world. Buy your own damn plane tickets.
But it’s hard to suck the government’s dick from across the street during non-Trump administrations.
He pushed her hand away. It’s not criminal but it’s an inexcusable breach of professional conduct. CNN not admitting as much is to be expected from a fake news program.
Trump did Acosta a favor.
He’ll be hitting the professional anti-Trump talking circuit now.
I’m sure he’ll be back soon. Trump probably loves having him there. Gets off on it, actually.
Tesla has a new chairman of the board. I’m curious how far up his ass Musk’s arm goes. Either way, hiring a telecom exec to head your car manufacturing company probably won’t solve the structural assembly issues you’re having. So, best of luck with that move.
Meh I have have a feeling in the end Tesla will be profitable. The power of subsidies and wealthy hippies
I’m not buying the reported story. 1) Since when does a non-executive chairman work fulltime at a company? Unless she’s being groomed to take over from Musk. 2) She’s been on the board since 2014. She, along with her fellow board members, failed to properly supervise Musk during that period. Moving her into the chairmanship is just a bandaid and fuck you to actually straightening out Tesla. 3) her Toyota experience is listed as “financial management posts”, which is at best midlevel positions. It speaks poorly to actual operational experience other than cover to try and claim she’s worked in the industry.

I know gross
Gibs da milk trucks!
15 and 32, yes please and thank you. 24 and 32 definitely have huge tracts of land.
21 and 35 will do nicely.
32. 37 and 27 were also good.
What’s the deal with all the skinny white girls with small tits for an underboob montage?
I finally got to see the clips the kind OMWC and Tres linked in yesterday’s book thread. Oh man, I couldn’t stop laughing. My sides hurt.
Good morning everyone! Today is starting out great. Penciled in the wrong day for a 5am meeting. Turns out it’s not today.
Just think of all the things you can get done!
Right? When that happens I find it impossible to go back home and sleep.
Who the hell schedules meetings for 5 AM anyway?
Farmers?
Call back east.
“Fuck you guys, I’ll be calling you at lunch.”
The opening band for Sixx:A.M.?
You schedule meetings at 5 am? International conference call?
We do. Main fabs are in NY, Dresden and Singapore. Salesweasel dens in CA and TX. All-hands meetings suck for someone every time.
I feel your pain. Same issues except I’m usually the one with the night calls.

Correct. My mistake.
“Antifa are the people who fought Franco. And they’re here to fight fascism as well.” What, by storming Tucker Carlson’s home?
Not a good move if they know anything about Tucker (which they don’t). He has been open about his firearms collection.
I still through ELO’s Greatest hits into the CD changer sometimes. The son thought their Hall of Fame induction was pretty cool.
I love ELO. I thank my mom for playing Evil Woman, Sweet Talking Woman, and the Out of the Blue album a bunch.
I had Out of the Blue on cassette back in the day. I think my sister stole it because Mr. Blue Sky was her favorite song.
That’s a shame it got lost. Also, I notice you graduated from NPC Studies?

You know, that’s a fair cop. I like money too.
Do you like to have sex with chicks too? Wow we should hang out.
WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO READ THAT WORD? ARE YOU A FAG????
And the left are flipping the fuck out because his temporary replacement once said he thought Mueller was overstepping his authority and that Rosenstein needed to reel him in.
Leftists are also screaming “obstruction of justice” even though the garden gnome had recused himself from the Russian
farceinvestigation.Of course there has to be solid evidence of an actual crime for there to be any obstruction.
Of which there is none at all in this case. Except for the Obama administration and the DNC/Clinton colluding to fabricate a phony dossier to use to get an improper FISA warrant.

So knowledge. Much scholar.
Is it a Constitutional Republic if the courts don’t give a shit what the constitution says?
I kind of have to wonder what particular scheme they propose for the senate by which the representatives are chosen by a national popular vote.
I’ve heard it before. National vote, numbers apportioned from there off a list. 200 Republicans voted in according to the percentages, you take the first 200 Republicans from the list. Because fuck representative democracy and fuck local representation, amirite?
It could result in a couple of actual libertarians in Congress, which is nice. Though I don’t thnk people like Amash or Massie would be on that Republican list, so we’d be right back where we were.
I mean it’s a retarded enough plan on its own without requiring a constitutional amendment that demolishes the entire concept of a federation of sovereign states. If you get that far, why even bother with a bicameral legislature?
Let’s just have a king!
/unspoken prog fantasy
Alexander Hamilton agrees.
“He’ll be kind and just and woke and…
Wait whadda ya mean, King Donald?”
/reeeeeeeee
I have heard proggie types suggest that Barry should not have term limits. They mean to have a dictator as long it is their dictator.
Until he’s not the perfect philosopher-king they desire. Then it’s power to the people again. Until that doesn’t work.
They desire power over everyone else. Period.
demolishes the entire concept of a federation of sovereign states
Leftists have been trying to do that for quite some time. Why do you think they concentrate on holding federal power?
Dissolve the Senate and give the local governors direct control? You’d better have finished your Death Star and secured the plans before pulling a stunt like that.
Yeah, probably something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_list
New Zealand uses it. Thing is, it’s usually used in systems where there are no state/provincial reps.
Eliminates representative government if CA gets to decide who is representative for any particular district in another state.
If we are coming up with new voting rules that don’t give a shit about where you live, why not allow people to vote as they currently do (for local reps and their senator), but they get one vote in any senate race and one vote in any congressional race.
I bet you could sell it to the Dems by telling them they could vote for Beto next time. On the other hand, the nation could rid itself of Pelosi. In fact, I bet all the pols would instantly try to blend into the wood work because otherwise they would attract too many at large votes against themselves.
Share of Senate votes by Democrats: 55%
Share of Senate votes by Republicans: 45%
Number of up-for-grab seats won by Democrats: ~67%
So, the Dems need to turn in 12% of their won seats.
Science it is not.
Professor of political science advocates for mob rule. But they are totally not a mob so stop calling them that.
I read this in the morning.
And of course they make the same old mistake of assuming their side will always have control of this new power. They really are short-sighted idiots.
Oh, I am sure they believe that if they can get it they can make sure their side will always have power. These people play real dirty, and we forget that at our own peril…

A ray of sunshine I forgot to mention yesterday is that it appears that Hennepin county will have a new sheriff.
The old sheriff, Rich Stanek, was an asshole of the first grade. The new guy seems pretty dumb too, but I don’t know how he could be worse than than Stanek.
He was an asshole, but was cool with carry permits. I have to renew mine next year and I’m not thrilled to see an apparent proggy in the big chair.
Maybe if you apply while wearing your short-shorts?
Oh yeah, good idea.

Can’t you renew early before the old guy leaves?
Should there be a tax on red meat?
The tax cattle must keep the wheel of pain moving
So like sin taxes, this is another deal where the govt is talking out of both sides?
Aren’t we constantly chided about rampant consumerism and how horrible it is? If people took that to heart and moved into those mini-houses, didn’t buy anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary and only worked enough to meet those minimal needs, what would happen to tax revenues?
Why stop at taxes? Just go to ration books and limit people’s caloric intake directly. I’m sure those ratfuckers still have a warehouse full of them leftover from the twenty years the British subjects of Airshit One allowed themselves to be on rationing.
Ladies should definitely be paying a tax for my meat.
Nuisance tax. — A tax imposed as a percentage of the selling price of goods or services, payable by the customer and transmitted by the seller to the taxing authority.
hawt
On a per inch basis, the highest tax ever imposed. Any where. Any time.
Oh, a pole tax.
Wait until they tell you they have a tittie tax Q…
Don’t even joke about that!
Ned Lamont says he is bring back tolls, raising the state income tax by 1%, adding a slew of anti-business taxes, and imposing a tittie tax…

Remarkable how they don’t understand concepts like “scope”. Mueller should just have open-ended permission to investigate whatever he wants with unlimited budget and authority?
I think the whole thing will be wound down within a couple of months after he gets smacked back into the original scope of his investigation and has to admit that he found literally nothing.
Mueller should just have open-ended permission to investigate whatever he wants with unlimited budget and authority?
That’s what he has. It is amazing how it is even legal. That one judge pushed back on him and his overreach but nothing came of it.
It’s not legal.
It’s absolutely Soviet – a clear case of investigating every aspect of a target’s life in order to try and find a crime. Completely opposite of American legal principles where an investigation is triggered by solid evidence of a crime, and is undertaken to determine the culprits.
Makes it obvious why the left likes that and constantly engages in that sort of behavior…
To quote Matt Welch on the 5th Column podcast: “We won’t know if it is a fishing expedition until after the investigation!”
Yeah, better do an investigation to see if a crime was even committed. And if you don’t whole heartedly support that investigation it is obstruction of justice.
They aren’t looking for evidence, they are looking for a crime. But it’s totally not a witch hunt.
Pathetic that supposed “libertarian” Matt Welch is on board with that.
Expect there to be more calls to take your rights away.
I understand that the new CA governor is even more anti-gun than the last.
What’s with Democrats and all the grease they use on their heads? Newsome and Wasserman-Shultz look like they just finished 69 ing.
Dammit! I’m trying to keep my breakfast down.
I actually want them to do something outrageous RE-2A. We’ve got a solid gun-friendly SCOTUS now, it’s about time they heard something post-Heller. Let Cali get a ban boner, overreach like crazy, sue the fuck out of them and get SCOTUS to knock down a host of grabber laws.
The Republicans on the court are plenty squishy enough on guns to allow substantial new regs. Scalia’s opinion in Heller make explicit that they were not interpreting the second amendment right to bear arms as unlimited, and that any number of restrictions and regulations short of the effective ban on handguns challenged by Heller could be permissible.

Any good ahegao in those? asking for a friend…
I’m not sure that I want to Google that. My exposure to anime is limited to AOT, Gantz, and Berserker.
No, Slammer, there is no good ahegao in AoT unless you enjoy the derpy faces the titans makes when they’re about to eat the poor SOBs guarding the walls.

No, Vlad has those crazy eyes.
I was shocked by this as well but a quick glance around seems to indicate that the year of Vlad’s birth is somewhat uncertain. There are no written records of him until 1432 and those do not indicate his age. There does not seem to be any solid record for a date of birth so I don’t know where the site Brett used got this date, another site I saw claimed 14 November 1431, a couple more just said “winter” 1431 but most either just listed the year 1431 or a range of years of 1428 – 1431.
So I’m guessing that this is one of those coincidences that only exists because it looks good rather than being something that actually happened
Hey, hey, hey. Morning links are Sloopy. I don’t bother with this research shit.

Incoming Democrat Chairman: Dems Will Go ‘All-In’ On Russia, Impeach Kavanaugh For ‘Perjury’
Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., revealed plans for House Democrats to investigate and impeach Justice Brett Kavanaugh for alleged perjury and investigate and impeach President Donald Trump for alleged treasonous collusion with Russia….
Nadler was headed to DC for a two-day planning session with his staff and Judiciary Committee staff. “We’ve got to figure out what we’re doing,” he explained in a phone call with a friend. Nadler requested that the friend’s name be concealed on the grounds he is a private citizen.
The two discussed two routes for investigating new Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh. The first is to go after the FBI for how they handled the investigation into unsubstantiated claims he sexually assaulted women. “They didn’t even do a half-ass job,” he said. “They didn’t interview 30 witnesses who said ‘Interview me! I’ve got a lot to say!’” he said, while mimicking people waving their hands to be called on.
His other plan is to go after Kavanaugh because “there’s a real indication that Kavanaugh committed perjury.” He claimed that The Atlantic published an article about the allegations of a third woman. Then he claimed that when Kavanaugh was “asked at a committee hearing under oath when he first heard of the subject, he said, ‘When I’d heard of the Atlantic article.’ But there is an email chain apparently dating from well before that from him about ‘How can we deal with this?’” Nadler told the caller.
Except the only people likely to have perjured themselves are the accuser, a few of whom have confessed to false accusation. It is possible that Christine Ballsy Fraud also perjured herself. If Team Blue want to die on this hill, let them. And treasonous collusion with Russia? Treason does have an actual definition. Perhaps these new congresscritters should read A3S3.
But that’s old and like written a hundred years ago! We’re using the feelz version of treason.
A private citizen with whom Nadler is discussing how to perform his official duties? Yeah right.
Sure, go after Kavanaugh and ensure that you lose the House and the Presidency in the next election.
It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see how it plays out for them.
Congresscritters read the Constitution? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah.
They do realize if he’s impeached, then the senate appoints Amy Coney Barrett to take his place, right?
And when RGB keels over (3 broken ribs from a fall the other day), Trump finds the most pro-life judge on the planet just to troll Team Blue.
Christine Ballsy Fraud did perjure herself.
She lied about being afraid to fly. She lied about being unfamiliar with polygraph exams. She lied about why the second door on her house existed and when it was installed. There are probably others but that’s just off the top of my head.
Maxine Waters says she’s got Deutsche Bank in her crosshairs. They do business with TRUMP.
How a house member who was censured for ethics violations of the banking variety ends up running the finance committee is one of the most hilarious things to come out of DC in awhile. Not to mention she may be the dumbest person in the House, but that is a tight race for that honor.
Hank Johnson would like to have a word.
Sheila Jackson Lee would like to have a word.
She would like to have a word but unfortunately her memory is all used up remembering how to breath so she no longer has that word.
Waters has the certain low cunning of a conwoman. Lee seems to have an IQ in the low-70s.
Expect there to be more calls to take your rights away.
This is how CO got mag’s limited to 10 rounds. After Sandy Hook (I think? Some shooting anyway) the state leg pushed through a handful of 2nd amendment limits that led to several recalls of state reps if I remember right.
But has there been a repeal of the law? I believe I heard here there is non enforcement, but it’s still on the books.
Courts neutered it. Basically buying “repair kits” (read: disassembled mags) is legal.
I did not know this.
You just have to find a gun store selling them. There’s gotta be a few over in Grand Junction. Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood and Springs Armory have been my go-to places, but that’s a helluva drive for you.
It’s been awhile since I bought anything, but when I was trying to get extra mags for my Beretta nobody would ship the mags to CO.
The same applies to “The People’s Republic of Connecticut”…
I musta missed the part where Tea Partiers did the same to Rachel Maddow.

Robby is made of straw. Also, @ the intern, would.
Same, Scum. Same.
Wow. Just wow.
I’ll take this tack. As an employer, trump had a duty to supply a safe work environment. To ensure that, someone like Acosta had to go.
I like that Robby played the ‘ackshually’ game, because Acosta didn’t put his hands on her, just pushed her off the microphone with his arm…
If Trump had any patience (yeah right) he would just let Acosta blather on, and then say “The answer to your question is Potato. Now, who’s next?” Eventually CNN would figure out that if they wanted to do any reporting they would have to put someone else in there.
And then he’d continue to blather and refuse to hand over the mic, like he did anyway.
Apparently enough votes were found in Bozeman and Missoula to save Tester from being sent back to the farm.
All those college students chanting “Orange Man Bad” saved us from Maryland Matt!*
*Funny that Democrats have been peddling xenophobia (New Jersey Gianforte, Maryland Matt) in elections (deys not from heres!).
Interesting calculus going through my head.
I’ve started doing random freelance projects for the company that I interviewed with. Just little things during breaks and at home. Collectively I have worked for 3:10:00 (let’s add breaks and whatever and make that 4 hours) and have made $30, with about $5 already done and just pending approval. So, obviously aware of availability and problems/issues/whatever, $60 an hour can be done. This is a very raw sample size. I obviously will be collating more data as I work more. I need about $50 a day to break even and $100/day to make as much money as I do here, but with drastically lower cost of living.
Daily post-tax pay for me now is about $112. The cost of living in Thailand is about 35-45% less than it is here. My apartment would be (for me) luxurious and food costs can be kept incredibly low if I so choose. At that (guaranteed to change dramatically) revenue rate I would be just a tick of above breaking even. Hopefully to use to springboard into bigger markets.
I have also started something on Fiverr so I can get extra gigs. However, it is *saturated* and I don’t think I can at all rely on it. Getting through the door there will be difficult and involve doing jobs for very little money. Does anyone have any experience there? My plan is to do the cheapest work with the fastest turnaround time and try to cheap it out in exchange for more visibility and reviews.
This whole process is very nerve-wracking. I’ll be excited in February when I can focus on just this and not have to deal with my gaslighting job all day at the same time.
>>food costs can be kept incredibly low if I so choose.
deep fried spiders?
Ladyboy diet.
???
Amazing Thai food for $1 a meal is absolutely possible for every meal. Lady and I had an exotic cocktail, an Egyptian ale for me, and a three courses that would’ve cost at least $100-120 in Indiana. We got it for $30.
Thai food is the best SE Asian food. Vietnamese is second. Korean is the worst of all the counties-that-have-enough-money-to-know-better food. Korea has the worst food of any country that doesn’t eat goat anus or similar. (No spiders here, but silkworms are a semi-popular bar food. They actually aren’t the worst thing in the world.)
Truth.

I’m still not sure why you’d ever want to leave teaching in a Korean school.

I work with 8-year-olds, Dude. Eight-year-olds. (And older and younger..)
If my students looked like Twice I would be in much trouble.
Mina literally makes my brain not work anymore.
Ugh, awful. I’d be bailing too.
Good luck Evan. I hope the free-lancing and all that do go well for you. Hang in there, fellow foreigner teacher.
Wait, you teach in Japan? For some reason I thought you were in tech or something. Where are you at, anyway?
You do JET? I know you’re about my age–what’s your history? For me:
2009-2014 Korea
2014-2016 Singapore
2016-2018 Korea
About 7 more weeks of this hellish job and I’M OUT, BABY!
Yeah, I’m just some soon-to-be-retired JET who works for a local small-town government in Aomori Prefecture. I do Elementary and Middle Schools so you know how that be. I started in 2014 and this gig ends in August 2019. Before all that, I was just a dishwasher at a mom and pop brunch in North Florida. Nice history you got man, again hope your next move and plans go well.
Thanks, man. I knew you lived up north but not that far north. I’ve only been to Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto. I rather like Japan. People are MUCH more willing to try out their English and help a white boy than here, IME.
I have never wanted to choke a bitch more than a certain 12 year old girl. I have had an ex throw a knife at me. She is way down on the list, comparatively.
But yeah. I gotta start that hustle. What are you plans after your contract ends?
Yeah, they really do like trying their English out here. Some of the other teachers I work with try to actually start conversations with me in English so it’s pretty nice they want to flex their English muscles. Luckily haven’t had any issues with the youth besides when they get into that teenage uninterested phase.
My plans are…either be an English conversation school mercenary further south or head on back to the homeland and get certified to teach ESOL and (6th-12th Grade) Social Studies.
My wife had an elementary kid start talking to her on the train one day in Tokyo, doing exactly that- practicing his English.
That’s great, man. Hopefully they get more willing to practice as the Olympics draws near.
“Help, we need a boss here. We’re desperate,” said Ramón Mendoza, a Smurfit forestry division worker for 17 years. “We’re so scared because we now know that all the government does is destroy everything, every business.”

I thought the new acting AG was a scary looking guy – like he could head-butt his way through a stonewall. Turns out he was a Hawkeye Tight End. David Burge will be pleased.
Maybe he could do some Glib Fit Posts.
“I really like this group.”
I was surprised when I learned the song, Long Black Road, from the American Hustle soundtrack, that ELO had done it. Great jam.
For anyone interested in a little lulz. The local proggies are organizing a ‘peaceful protest’ in Tampa, at Curtis Hixon Park at 5pm (EST) today.
I am a bit curious about turnout, and if they scare off any normies trying to enjoy riverwalk.
What are they protesting?
Probably the fact that they lost an election, because Florida is too racist to elect a black governor.
It’s nationwide planned by some leftist group to protest Sessions resigning or something.
Those two scumbag Texas cops killed the mother too? Evil, evil, fucks.

I, too, dig ELO and I am happy to see that Jeff Lynne is still going strong. From a recent show in an intimate little club in England.
Re: Musk – I can’t for the life of me understand why he chooses leadership like Tesla is a fucking software company. Making stuff is difficult under the best of circumstances. Why not bring in people who know how to do it?
Because that is thinking inside the box.
My last job was the opposite. Working as the software arm of a huge global company that specialized in manufacturing things. 47 quality gates before you can release things. Huge amounts of time trying to limit liability and risk. Yeah, I get why a guy from a software background would hate to be surrounded by people who specialize in making physical things over and over again with no defects.
BTW, I didn’t mean to imply that Musk was right in avoiding the manufacturing dudes. He isn’t. Like Tundra says, creating, operating and improving a manufacturing plant is a stunningly hard thing to do. You want people who understand that world on your side.
I was just pointing out that software guys and manufacturing guys don’t speak the same language.
It’s telling that the manufacturing guys he did bring in all bailed out.
Today for your dose of progressives complaining that the state doesn’t agree with them. I’m sure if you point out the rural areas of New York, Illinois, and California, they’ll just point out how much better things are for them with the Progressives in charge of the city. The true problem in Cleveland is of course income inequity:
And unless things have changed, Columbus and Cincinnati are both blue as well.
>>Thomas Piketty’s fundamental insight
rightttt…
Well, it was his fundamental insight. There’s just debate as to whether it’s based on data.
Data itself is insufficient. Is the data good and correctly interpreted?
I think so, it fit the pre-existing narrative.*
Disclaimer: from what I understand, much of what Piketty came up with is pretty good. There are some significant disagreements over interpretations, etc.
Given how difficult and most likely impossible is to measure real wealth I doubt it but ignoring this I read many criticism of his data, including that occasionally he made things up. Also the rich get richer is not supported by the data as long as the rich families in 1950 and 2010 were not the same.
There is a point in that statement, but it’s not the one they think it is.
you are saying at some point they will only produce shoes?
Left shoes only. In hard to find sizes.

It’s that I should find someone who has more then me and take it, right? I shouldn’t invest my money, I should just stuff my money into a mattress to keep it safe from those evil ((bankers)) and 1-percenters, right?
I was thinking more along the lines of the house of cards that is Wall Street, fractional reserve banking, and the fiat money system in general.
I was gonna ask what the heck does he mean exactly?
Hey, this investment scam sounds pretty lucrative. Maybe I should get in on it. There must be some sort of catch, though. I mean, if I can just invest my own money and grow my investment ahead of my wage growth, what’s keeping everyone from doing that? How can I bank on inequality if everyone’s free to invest?
INEQUALITY IS NOT INTRINSICALLY BAD YOU COMMIE SHITBAGS
Several paragraphs before that is this beauty:
Fuck, Democrats running a city doing things that might make the city better? That’s a terrible idea, tax those businesses, soak the rich!
And from the ground here, things have gotten better in several areas. The East bank of the Flats is thriving again, East 4th has become a great food and drink area, West 25th has become the brewery district, and the theater district has gotten cleaned up. As short as 10-15 years ago, you wouldn’t go to any of those areas unless you were looking for a specific location, or didn’t know the area.
Fundamentally….basically….literally…..
♫ Flats look like a Scooby-Doo ghost town
Don’t slow down in East Cleveland or you’ll die. ♫
Well, this is what the Flats looked like a decade ago. Here’s a more modern picture down the street. And it’s built up out from there. Now, assuming past trends, it’ll go back to a ghost town in about 10 years.
It is when you’re consumed by envy.
Ohio, like the rest of the post-industrial Midwest with the exception of IL, has been trending more Republican for the past ten years
Farmers: the original socialists.
They might want to ask themselves how is it that fifty years or so of progressive policies have failed to prevent half the population from leaving.
That’s easy, it’s the damned suburbs fault, and the southern and mid-Ohio people. We should build a wall around the city proper to make sure people can’t leave. And they do blame the state for part of it:
And if it’s the state GOP holding them back, perhaps they should look to New York and how the GOP’s complete irrelevance there for the last few decades has totally turned Buffalo, Rochester, et al. into stunning success stories!
Somehow, those mail-in ballots always seem to go one way.
Voter fraud doesn’t exist.
/NPC
Amazing!
Always. Serious question – has there ever been a case of suddenly-found votes that vaults a Republican into the lead? I honestly have never heard of that happening.
The answer is never. This only and always happens with the party that accuses anyone of wanting a system that would prevent shit like this from happening of doing voter suppression. But we get ridiculed if we point that out and demand the system not allow this shit.
Republicans represent only well-heeled country club districts with expensive voting machines, so there’s never any boxes of fortuitously partisan ballots to be found the way they are in downscale minority districts Democrats represent.
I heard this morning on the radio that the found votes in AZ seem to be breaking for McSally. I am unsure from where these found votes came and too lazy to look,
The report is that they still haven’t counted 18% of the AZ votes. Were they surprised that the election was this week?
Those damn idiots printing and filling out the ballots marked the wrong person! I told the DNC not to outsource to India and now look what’s happened!
Fuck these people.
RE: Antifa fucksticks.
How coincidental that this shit quieted down for a couple weeks leading up to the election, only start start up again the day after. Why, it’s almost as if it’s being organized from the top down!
The left is a crime syndicate, I tell you.

I’m old enough to remember when the Left would have praised Carlson for being a consistent anti-war voice on the Right.
You were born before 2008?
Unions would’ve praised his trade policies, too.
The chick(!) from Ford on Bloomberg right now is a blithering idiot. Buzzword salad, away!
“Antifa are the people who fought Franco.”
You mean the people that gave Spain Franco? If the Republicans hadn’t gone about killing kulaks and burning churches and homes of their opposition there probably would have never been a popular uprising against the government.
But, clearly the Republicans were pure and good. That’s why they received support during the Spanish Civil War from..*checks notes*..the Soviet Union and Mexico that was ruled by a repressive one party government at the time.
The Republicans were so righteous that their actions and those of their supporters disillusioned George Orwell and American author John Dos Passos, to name a few.
Man, we’re really re-writing history now.
I worked with two Spaniards (both mid twenties) who thought highly of Franco. “He was misunderstood”
That’s the problem with Europe- you have to choose between two assholes. I’ve heard the same from Italians with regards to Mussolini.
Trains ran on time, etc etc.
Mussolini took advantage of an Italy that prided itself as the foundation of Western Civilization stuck in neutral while the US, England, Germany, and France industrialized and had become significantly greater world powers. His promises to bring Italy into the 20th century resonated and people were willing to overlook some of his other…issues. He was the ultimate MIGA.
He saved Spain from communism and kept them out of WWII. I’m not saying he didn’t take some liberties he shouldn’t have taken but he wasn’t that bad given the alternative.
I have a massive problem with how today everyone is measured by whatever the always changing standards of decorum people of the SJW persuasion demand be used to qualify them as good or bad. Forget the fact that nobody is perfect and everyone will have period related beliefs and rules they worked under, but it galls me that we now think people that were beyond mediocre or outright evil are great because they had the right skin color, female genitalia, or sexual proclivity, while those that didn’t, no matter their achievements, are now seen as bad people.
^^^^ exactly correct
My family has no love for Franco, but as Catholics, they would’ve been massacred if they stayed in Republican territory. Good thing they had the right idea and bailed out of Spain then and there. Shame they ended up going to Cuba next.
Your family had some bad luck.
I had members of my family that were “partisans” during Mussolini’s rule. They despised the communists with an equal amount of animus. Only American leftists still pretend as if the opposition to fascism in Europe was led by socialists and communists.
For real, I was thinking about that earlier about how crazy it is that people can’t realize one can be anti-fascism and also anti-communism. It absolutely boggles the mind. That’s cool about your family though.
The worst thing that Western liberals did after the end of the Cold War was allow socialists and communists back into respectable society. Eastern Europe has never forgiven Western European countries for allowing the communists to escape consequences.
I don’t blame Eastern Europeans for feeling that way. Leave it to the people who have suffered under communism to be the strongest voices against it.
Unfortunately as these populations age and pass, the younger ones, indoctrinated and made woke, will embrace communism, just like our young now do with the Cold War being so long ago. I am of the belief that the future will be a lot darker than the evil we saw back in the 20th century. Especially since now you don’t really have to kill someone to get rid of them. When you can just ruin their livelihood or lock them up for alleged crimes, or even better, give them a shitty social score and basically turn them into a pariah, killing them is not really needed. Still doesn’t mean that people will suffer miserably under the evils of the marxist religion.
Nor in the ‘golden age’ of communism.
It’s the same old shit, yet again wrapped up as inevitable ‘progress’ by illiterate, ahistorical, amoral would-be tyrants.
Especially since now you don’t really have to kill someone to get rid of them. When you can just ruin their livelihood or lock them up for alleged crimes, or even better, give them a shitty social score and basically turn them into a pariah, killing them is not really needed
That’s very optimistic of you. Frankly, I’ve never met a prog who can even tolerate the knowledge that wrong think exists somewhere in the world. The only way to scratch that itch is by torturing wrong thinkers to death.
“The only way to scratch that itch is by torturing wrong thinkers to death.”
I will give you as my exhibit A the gay cake guy and what they did to him. They went all out to destroy him by destroying his ability earn a living, and thus, to just live. They do this sort of thing hoping that their victim breaks the fuck down and apologizes, so they can moral grandstand too, right before they drive the proverbial dagger home. Apologizing (especially when you are the one in the right and being falsely accused) never works, because it only encourages the SJW asshats to be more brutal against the one that has admitted guilt. Keeping these stupid people that felt pleading guilty would reduce their sentence around, as examples, is done these days because they are of great value to discourage others from pissing of the SJW masters.
Now, that doesn’t mean I would discount the fact leftists love themselves a final solution, but they prefer to get there by first torturing and destroying the individual. Be it by a thousand cuts, reeducation camps, stuff that would make Torquemada look tame, and finally, the traditional “making them dig their own grave before offing them” way of getting rid of the wrong thinkers.
And they do it all without any remorse or hesitancy, because they believe their cause is just. If this shit isn’t evil, I don’t know what is.
“He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.”

But hey, we’re so woke for electing a scumbag with the proper color skin and religious beliefs. Yay Minne!
I had forgotten about the campaign finance violations she has been racking up. On one hand, I am usually pretty forgiving about campaign finance violations, but her’s are pretty much blatant violations, not technical violations of some arcane rule.
Taking money for “speeches” from state colleges – when you are on the committee that has oversight on those same colleges sure is bad. Paying your divorce attorney from your campaign fund is also pretty ballsy (especially given the nature of the divorce).
Does it bug you that all her grift is so small time? C’mon, you want to be a symbol and a true leader? Get out there and steal some big time money! Hillary and the Clinton Foundation wouldn’t have only taken $2,750 from colleges.
It’s amazing, and saddening, and infuriating, the things people will ignore to get one of their team elected. It’s fucking sickening.
It’s almost as if they don’t actually care, don’t actually have basic moral principles.

Don’t be cheeky about it this is serious.
Let’s ask Mix.
My father is a Golden Rodents bobo. While he waits for THE U of M football to return to greatness, he has taken up watching their women’s volleyball team. While we were up deer hunting he made us watch a match. We both felt sorry for Regan Pittman. She is a great player, but she doesn’t have the “qualities” needed to make it on the pro beach tour.
I notice the player’s names are printed on their asses. Nice.
Organized sports builds character, team playing and confidence.
The left and their fellow anti-western travelers are deliberately trying to destroy sports for exactly that reason. It’s no coincidence they are also going after the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
It really is a war on our culture.

Her biggest flaw for a nomination to the SC is that she is too attractive. Half the country will instantly be against her nomination and make catty remarks about her the second they see her.
Honestly, her biggest flaw is that there are better justices that the Federalist Society has recommended. But, when presented with the choice of principle or offending his adversaries, Trump always chooses the latter.
She’s the “tears nominee” and I embrace it

I busted two ribs when I was 30. Horribly painful – sneezing, standing, coughing, laughing was something else. I had to sleep upright in a chair and only with Vicodin could I get comfortable enough. Took weeks to heal, and months before I could lift weights without pain.

Musk’s new CEO is a woman. An offering to appease the gods of social justice and diversity.
Denholm has been a Tesla board member since 2014 and is also CFO of Telstra (26.8 B Market Cap).
https://www.wsj.com/articles/tesla-names-robyn-denholm-as-chairman-to-replace-elon-musk-1541659771
Correct. It’s not a move to appease the diversity gods, it’s a middle finger to the Feds.
You mean the Shortseller Enrichment Commission?
BTW – how are you and Mrs. Tundra doing as the end of semester one approaches?
Good! Thanks for asking. We went out to see him last weekend and had a blast. it’s amazing how different he is already. School is beating him up a little, but I like how he is handling it. We miss him a lot, of course, but it’s pretty cool watching him grow up.
How’s yours doing? Sophomore?
Yes, Sophomore. We’ve been fortunate to see him for some short breaks/weekends and looking forward to the longer Thanksgiving vacation. He is excited b/c just landed his first internship – good motivation to study for those actuary exams!
It’s great that you were able to make the trip out to see your son – I’m sure he appreciates the support.
Awesome! My neighbor’s kid is an actuary and making insane money already in her first job!
Yeah, we’re looking forward to seeing him at Thanksgiving and Christmas, although he is considering staying out there over the summer to do some classes. Not sure how momma will handle that…
Pro-tip: Have Mrs. Tundra register him as a non-degree student at U of Minn (or other uni/college), check course options/double-check for transfer policies, and he can take Summer courses locally. We did this last year via ISU for Speech Com/Spanish.
That’s a great idea. I’ll have him look into it!

YouTube U-turn over Red Dead Redemption 2 suffragette clips
“YouTube has restored several videos showing a women’s rights campaigner being killed in a variety of ways in the video game Red Dead Redemption 2.”
YouTube supports the suppression of women’s rights through violence!
For your enjoyment https://youtu.be/mZ7RicfseRU
“YouTube subsequently removed eight of them, leaving two examples in which the suffragette was beaten but not killed.”
YT going by the Koran rules?
I’m surprised the programmers allowed this. I’m playing through now and they made it so that you absolutely cannot do anything violent on the Indian Reservation in the game. You are free to be a marauding, murdering outlaw, but not against the protected groups.
That’s disappointing. If they’re going to be that sensitive, they should’ve just left the reservation out of the game.
And of course none of your opponents (at least so far) are anything but white men (well there was one woman). Not that this diminishes the enjoyment of the game at all but I find it odd. In this age of identity politics don’t think there will ever again be a western (movie, game or print) that dares to step outside of racial NARRATIVE to tell a story.
In the first one you got to fight both Americans and Mexicans, and there were bad people (and good!) on all sides. It was cynical, but also more realistic and immersive. Complex human characters always adds more to immersion than complex game mechanics or great graphics, IMO.

We certainly would not be the laughingstock of leaders from around the globe. – why would you care?
Identity politics is one helluva drug. Side note to the white ladies, keep on keeping on. You keep rockin’.
I really hate this trope. Flint’s water problems were purely a monster of their own creation in a hamfisted attempt to create more local jobs instead of just going with the tried and true solution. Flint fucked up and everybody else covered for them. But the GOP gets blamed.
Not to mention
Also not to mention
>>The City of Flint would have gotten the federal funding it needs to completely overhaul its water systems
Really? Clinton the all-seeing god.

Hillary Clinton never did anything that didn’t directly benefit Hillary Clinton. To think she’s some kind of Mother Theresa figure is ludicrous. Her moving to New York just so she could become a senator should have sent that message loud and clear. She has ambitions and God help anyone who gets in her way.
That analogy works. Mother Theresa was a sick piece of shit who enjoyed inflicting maximum pain on the people who came to her for help.
I know you don’t speak for all white women in the same way that I could not possibly represent the voice all women of color.
Well that’s a refreshingly humble and I’m sure entirely hollow admission.
Shouldn’t it be a red flag if other white women aren’t supporting a white female candidate?
If Oprah decided to run and none of the other black women supported her candidacy, wouldn’t you wonder what was up?
… a vastly more qualified Hillary Clinton
Assumes facts not in evidence.
This seems like a winning strategy.
But I really want to understand is how you—or, anyways, so many women like you—chose a man like Donald Trump over a vastly more qualified Hillary Clinton.
You wouldn’t understand.
People were talking about electric bikes earlier. I have a question.
Does anyone have any experience with electric bicycles? I’m terrified of scooters (although I have done them and only had to bail once in Vietnamese traffic) and if I suck it up and get a scooter I have to deal with the Thai government and licenses. This is a thing that I do not want to do.
They’re can be normal bikes but you can turn the battery on and go 20-30mph without pedaling. Throttle assist vs pedal assist. This sounds awesome in the city—I’m totally fine getting a tuktuk or whatever to go places farther away. Just if anyone has any experience. It sounds perfect for me.
My mother in law has one. Fun, but you still go on your own power most of the time. Good for hills.
My brother was a semi-pro mountain biker and has since switched to an electric. I went for a ride with him this summer. It was an amazing experience, like you’re bionic or something. I was surprised at how much power the bike adds to your peddling. As with all things though, I’m sure you’ll get what you pay for. My bro is a spare-no-expense kinda guy.
I have an electric Breezer with pedal assist. I don’t ride much here in Iowa, but used extensively in Princeton to run errands, pick-up groceries, general transportation, etc. I’m NOT a bike rider and the thought of riding in traffic frightened me, but I LOVED using the Breezer in that area. Pedal assist was great if you want some exercise. Very quiet, easy to outfit for cargo.
Man up. Get a motorcycle. 😉
South. East. Asia.
No, motherfucker. Fucking maniacs over there. Fucking. Maniacs.
I don’t even like riding a bike in the States. I get the “oh-shit-going-too-fast” sensation a lot quicker than in my youth. This seems like a good mix between not-having-to-deal-with-the-government, relative safety, and localized speed.
Chiang Mai is very flat, as well. Well, at least in the city. Seems like a great way to get neighborhood-sized speed of travel. Seems like about $600 or so.
A shooting in California inspires a NY congressman to call for universal background checks.
Not surprising. The NY Attorney General’s entire raison d’etre is “RESIST TRUMP”.
I was under the impression that its entire raison d’etre is to amass a titanic slush fund.
That makes sense. Between the NYAG and the CFPB, it seems this has become the modus operandi for the left.

We know why he chose a supposed Cali redneck hangout to do this evil work at? I simply don’t get people that think because life sucks, they have to destroy or end other people’s lives.
And yet it’s the same deal and setup as every other mass shooting.

Speaking of State AG’s – the Iowa Republicans couldn’t come up with someone to run against Tom Miller? I voted for the Libertarian.

Again? This is getting tiresome.
Has anyone given details of what ‘Universal background check’ means?
I know, I just want to hear them say it.
The first check is now whether you’ve been banned from twitter.
It’s just common sense. It means everyone has to have a background check if they buy a gun from anyone, anywhere, for everything and anything that would make them likely to shoot or threaten to shoot anyone ever. Simple. Like in “Minority Report”.

If Tucker Carlson is a “racist” then we’ve really whittled down “racist” to mean anyone who has a policy position that you disagree with. I’m loving how indistinguishable the woke brand of libertarianism is from progressivism.
You don’t have to agree with Tucker to think you have to be profoundly stupid to label his criticisms of immigration policy as “racist”.

Woketarians are the fucking worst, the absolute worst. At least all-out progs are honest about who they are.
If they were honest they wouldn’t call themselves progressives. They would just say ‘communist’.
Seriously, all-out progs aren’t honest about anything.
If you believe that the opposite of open borders is racism, you deserve to be locked in an airtight room with dog farts pumped in through vents until you suffocate or repent.
Also, I realize we’re talking about DC here and laws are what they are, but forming a mob in front of someone’s house and tormenting the inhabitants is an excellent way to get shot. Not that I really expect to be threatened by a mob, but I’ve thought from time to time that if a crowd of people were trying to break into my house or just generally threatening me and my family I’ve got enough hardware to disperse a crowd pretty quickly before I set the dogs loose on the survivors. Which, of course, I’m not advocating.
That is some Soave level to be sureing there.
That happened a long time ago.
Fuck these people.
No love for Florida snake?
The largest Burmese python ever seen in South Florida wasn’t able to slither her way out of being captured earlier this week.
A snake hunter captured the female snake while on South Florida Water Management District property in Miami-Dade County Monday night, the agency announced in a press release Wednesday.
Homestead resident Kyle Penniston was credited for reeling in the elongated reptile, which was measured at 17 feet, 5 inches and weighed in at 120 pounds, according to the SFWMD.
That’s a big snake.
I love that the snake hunter is wearing Crocs.
Captured? It’s an invasive species. Shoot the damned thing, skin it and fry up the meat. It will make a nice pair of boots.

Con. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was on Fox this morning talking about “history” being on the side of the opposing party during mid-terms. So he thought the GOP did relatively well by only losing about 30 seats. What accounts for this “history?” I seriously doubt very many voters look back at history and say,
“you know, I got to vote with the historical trend of mid-terms.” Why the repudiation of a newly-elected president’s successes? Sure, some of his supporters may be complacent and not vote, but some of the opponents are going to be discouraged and not vote too. Why do districts and states that
went heavily for the presidential winner turn around and vote in the other party two years later? For example, Trump carried Penna. but Tuesday’s
results overwhelmingly favored the invisible prog senator Bob Casey against the Trump loving and supported Lou Barletta. Why does it seem that
mid-terms energize the opponents but not the previous winners who should be pushing on for overwhelming victory???
I kinda thought the Democrats results were rather pathetic but not just because of history.
Their opponent is the hated Trump, they are so freaking angry, they spent at records numbers, etc.
This is it? Not impressed by the comeback.
Yep. When theres a new POTUS, his party loses seats, in almost all cases, in the first election post him winning.
In 2010 the GOP gained 63 House and 6 Senate seats.
In 2002 the Presidents party actually gained seats, which is quite rare in the midterms.
In 1994 the GOP gained 54 House and 8 Senate seats.
The big question for me is if those dozens of GOP critters who declined to run for reelection might have won if they had stood.
It’s not just history, but man I’ve been told for 2 years that Trump is the most vile guy ever and he’s failing miserably. That at the first opportunity foolish Americans are going to repent on their mistake of 2 years ago and punish his ass.
This is it?
What actually happened is that the Republicans who distanced themselves from Trump failed most.
There are some alarming signs I guess. Texas still no fans of Trump. But still… not that impressive a come back really to fight back against a guy who is literally Hitler.
OK, but it is pretty obvious to me that a lot of 2016 Trump voters either sat home on their hands in 2018 or decided they made a mistake in 2016. I was laughed at when I said I knew several Trump voters that were disgusted with him and the GOP but didn’t know one Hillary voter who regretted not voting for Trump.
Actually that does make me wonder.
How many House districts went blue that had previously gone to Trump?
At least 23.
“I was laughed at when I said I knew several Trump voters that were disgusted with him”
I mean, its a big country, you can find a guy for everything. Statistically speaking, there are people who believe Obama is the Antichrist and voted for him twice.
But I always thought the MUH SO DISGUSTING thing was a small group, because Trump didn’t suddenly become a crude asshole after he took office. He spent over a year being the Head Troll and Name Caller on the campaign trail.
I actually think the bigger thing is Trump’s coattails. That was always Obamas problem, he had millions of voters who absolutely adored checking his name, but couldn’t be bothered to show up in the mid terms and vote for less exciting Democrats. Trump might have the same issue. Not being able to get Manchin out in WV for example, is interesting.
Trump got 489,000 votes in WV, Morrissey could only get 269,000 to Manchin’s 288,000. So either there’s a bunch of Trump fans not voting, or there’s a bunch of Trump fans not voting for other Republicans. Look at Casey in PA. Trump got 2,970,00 in 2016, winning PA. Barletta could only get 2,100,000, falling well short of Casey’s 2,729,000. Trump got 279,000 votes in Montana. If those guys had all come out and voted for the Republican, Tester would not have scraped a win out.
Now obviously theres always a drop off from POTUS to midterm, but I think there was a hope that Trump was different, they would be able to get the people who voted for Trump the guy more so than Trump the GOP nominee or Trump the Not Hillary Clinton, to come out and vote for the guys Trump liked.
OK, but it is pretty obvious to me that a lot of 2016 Trump voters either sat home on their hands in 2018 or decided they made a mistake in 2016.
This was a fairly tepid midterm rebuke. Usually the opposing party is ~+30 House and ~+5 Senate.
Frankly, Trump isn’t so special as to have some sort of special effect on the election. The House fell about how it was supposed to, and the Senate broke slightly more favorable than history suggests, mostly due to the disproportionate number of Dems up for election. Perhaps one or two senate seats were influenced by the Kavanaugh BS. Perhaps three or four house seats were influenced by the Trump is a meanie bloc.
Why does it seem that
mid-terms energize the opponents but not the previous winners who should be pushing on for overwhelming victory???
A few thoughts:
1) there is a significant portion of the public that votes based on cults of personality. Without a top card election like the presidency, they’re not motivated to get to the polls. I’m sure this has a name, but I’ll call it the Emperor effect. “if I can’t vote for the Emperor, then why bother voting at all?” this contributes to overall low turnout.
2) complacency. The party in power is a lion, the minority party is a Gazelle. Despite the lion being the superior physical specimen, the Gazelle often prevails out of sheer desperation. This contributes to a better showing by the minority party.
3) without a single leader (presidential candidates) dictating the agenda for public discussion, the party’s messaging becomes quite muddled. Without a clear and urgent call to action, many people can’t be stirred into the voting booth. This contributes to low turnout, especially with the majority party. The minority party can always rally around resisting the evils of the president.
It’s easier than that. The president’s coat tails brings people into office in competitive districts who struggle to hold that seat at the mid term two years later when the president is not on the ballot.
The ebb and flow of seats changing hands can be overridden by external events like wars and recessions.
In all likelihood, this year’s lost seat can be gathered back to the Pub when Trump crushes which ever patsy the Dems put up in 2020 — assuming there is no financial collapse between now and then.

Is the UK ready for socialism?
They were born ready
Mexico is about economy freedom? Really?
hah, that was my immediate reaction too. I really don’t think Mexico is one that leaps to mind when you’re talking about unrestrained capitalism.
*economic
The socialist ideas of Venezuela for example, have been undermined by a number of internal and external factors. Externally, US sanctions and plummeting oil prices have caused devastation to their socialist society while internally,
has led to 2.3 million Venezuelans leaving the country since 2014.
Yeah, that’s it. Not enough government control of the economy. You don’t even know where to start with someone that stupid/mendacious.
Sanctions killed socialism also gives away the game. Remember, “real” socialism has never been tried, but it also failed because it was burdened by a restriction that has nothing whatsoever to do with its premises. Apparently you can kill “real” socialism by preventing it from being capitalistic.
Venezuela the government’s inability to decisively control the economy – yes, that was precisely it
Countries such as Mexico and Nigeria are governed by capitalist systems and have some of the highest levels of corruption and poverty in the world today. – lol. Also Mexico is not that poor historically speaking. Every rich country is capitalist that may make one think. That pesky corruption there would not exist in socialism no siree
I think the great thing about capitalism is that it allows people with the rational thinking capacity of a potato to write things on computers and get them on the internet. Or this is trolling because no one can be that stupid.
Mexico doesn’t even have a comparatively high economic freedom index for Latin America.
yes but the thing about capitalism is it manages to bring some prosperity in the worst places as long as it is not completely destroyed
of course!
What I’m saying is they aren’t that free economically. If they liberalized more, they would be better off.
Mexico was run by a socialist single party for 70 years. Two out of the three major parties in the twenty years since are socialist, and the third is Christian democrat, which might as well be.
Not to mention that the Mexican constitution forbids foreigners from owning Mexican land and states that all natural resources are owned by the State. If Mexico is capitalist then IL is also a model for fiscal prudence
I wonder if the author would care to explain what the fuck this idiocy is supposed to mean.
I think we really did humanity a disservice allowing them to use the Karl Marx coined term “capitalism” instead of “liberalism” or “economic freedom” w/o fighting back. It’s a deliberately framed propaganda term w/ the ugly word “capital” in it.
It’s not really a type of government. You could have a non-interventionist dictatorship in theory. Like Singapore. A dictatorship with the 2nd highest economic freedom index in the world.
“You could have a non-interventionist dictatorship in theory”
Yep. It comes down to resources in the end IMO. If I was to rewrite the Constitution to attempt to stave off the inevitable growth of the state, I would explicitly ban taxes on income and explicitly ban government currency and explicitly limit the number of nonelected federal employees to no more than one for every thousand people in the country.
Meh. You can turn any word into a pejorative. Communist was a pejorative for a long time, outside of the communist world. Shame it isn’t anymore. Capitalist has been turned around by its proponents and remains a pejorative only among people who would hate it regardless of what it was called. The “sharing economy” rebranding lasted all of a couple years before the same people turned against it for the same reasons. Capital is not a bad word, any more than “society” or “commune”.
I prefer liberalism because it focuses on what really matters — that people are free.
On that I can agree but the liberal tradition has always been weak on economics. There are more liberals (of all recognizable stripes) who disagree with Bastiat than agree. Hell, before WWI, most of the world’s liberals were content to maintain aristocracy, albeit with some reforms.
We should have stuck with that. An aristocracy, as long as their powers are severely limited, can act as a brake on the mob. The House of Lords left as veto holder and High Court could have stopped or slowed what has happened to Britain, Of course the progs knew that so they broke the Lords early on.
Checks and balances only work until enough of the power is in the hands of the unprincipled to change the rules.
The House of Lords left as veto holder and High Court could have stopped or slowed what has happened to Britain
Probably. However, by the time the Lords had that power stripped from them, the aristocracy was nothing like it was.
The House of Lords was effectively neutered by the 1911 Parliament Act. The killing blow just took a few more decades.
We are in the worst possible timeline.
Is there not a weight limit to be AG?
Please let this just be Trump yanking Christie’s chain, again.
No. It’s happening. This makes complete sense.
I repeat:
“when presented with the choice between a decision that can be defended on principle or offending his adversaries, Trump always chooses the latter.”
In this case, I think Trump wants somebody who’s unequivocally on his side. Pissing people he doesn’t like off is secondary.
Christie’s political career is flagging, to say the least. By appointing him AG, Trump is responsible for his continued relevance. I can’t help but think Trump believes that buys him loyalty, and Christie probably leapt at the opportunity. They’re two peas in a pod, those two.
And someone who won’t hesitate to fight the Dems down and dirty with prison rules.

Here’s the thing – Christie is a Jersey guy who like to fight and feud. In this era of politics devolving into radio wars, he’s perfect. He would slap Rosenstein and Mueller around like bitches and yell at reporters who give him shit.
Plus all the memes will be epic.
I agree. He is a scrapper and likely at this point both Trump and Sessions wish he had been the first AG of the administration.
Paul Mulshine was no fan of Christie, but he agrees.
Yup, a this point Trump needs a wartime consigliere, and Christie would fit the bill.
My GF told me this early this morning. I didn’t believe her.
I guess this should be my #believeallwomen moment.
I called this yesterday. And I don’t think it makes it the worst possible timeline, as I don’t think Trump is choosing a new AG with the intent of going after the common man but rather with the intent to counter-attack the incoming wave of Democratic lawfare. My hope is that the two sides in DC will spend all their time fighting each other and leave the rest of us alone.
Neither is capitalism the all-powerful force which leads to prosperity. Countries such as Mexico and Nigeria are governed by capitalist systems
Wait, what?
If any capital, no matter its value, is still held in private hands, the whole system is capitalism.
Yep. THis is old stuff. Why do you think they murdered the kulaks?
If an illiterate peasant has an illegal still that he uses to produce vodka, it’s ruining the God State’s exquisitely balanced central plan.
Just like how even though 60%+ of healthcare spending is from the government, we still have a private healthcare system according to the progs.
And of the other 40%, the vast majority is funneled through government created and administered “insurance” companies. The amount of healthcare spending in the U.S. that actually transacts through something resembling an open market is pretty low.
N.B.: this is not laying the blame at the feet of the health insurers, although they aren’t blameless, but rather at the government turning a concept with a market purpose (insure you against catastrophe) into something else entirely (an attempt to expensively emulate a “universal” healthcare system without the appearance of one)
One drop.
Capitalism is so powerful that a peasant with a still is capable of undermining all of socialism. But the problem isn’t socialism. No way!

Agree with Cain. I’m not going to be a monster here. It’s simply time for her to retire. Spend times with your grandkids or something. Politics isn’t this important.
Come on. No one is saying this to Thomas. Let the old lady enjoy the remaining years of her life. And then spurn her legacy by appointing Amy Coney Barrett to her seat
hehe
Thomas is in much better shape than her, by all accounts.
I disagree. She should retire now. Why wait until she has fully recovered? He’s saying she should stay on the Court while she is impaired.
I don’t like that principle. A temporary impairment should not force a judge or justice to retire. Just assault a judge you don’t like, and now he has to leave the bench! But, the key word is temporary.
It ain’t temporary with RBG.
If she should retire after she recovers, why shouldn’t she retire right now? Why wait?
Very much so. One of the things I despise most about the progs is the way politics trumps absolutely everything, including basic human decency. I have no interest in doing so here. I’d love to see her off the court but I hope she recovers her health for many years to come.
Rasten, on the other hand, my grandfather just turned 95 and managed to recover from a broken hip earlier this year. I thought he was a goner, but damned if that tough old bird didn’t pull through. Some people just have more iron in their blood than others,
that’s impressive.
i didn’t say she wouldn’t recover, just that she has an uncomfortable recovery ahead of her. injured ribs are miserable. you feel them shift. you can’t exercise. you breath, it hurts. you move, it hurts. you sneeze or cough? fuggedaboutit.
Agreed with Cain, of course, but I will admit I did get a little case of butterflies at the thought of Trump getting yet another appointment with a Team Red Senate. Also a little case of butterflies because I’m crushing on Prof. Barrett just a tad.
If I remember correctly, according to the Dems Herman has no class.

Dozens of tickets to see Michelle Obama speak at London’s Royal Festival Hall have been snapped up by touts and are already on sale for more than £70,000 on the controversial ticket resale website Viagogo.
Minutes after the phone lines opened for seats at a talk by the former first lady, Viagogo – based in Switzerland – was already offering seats for more than 570 times face value.
While the South Bank Centre has set a price for the event of between £30 and £125, the most expensive ticket listed on Viagogo at time of writing was £72,181 for a box seat.

Proving that fools and their money are soon parted.
For RGB, I’m looking forward to the Dems making the argument that the Senate’s refusal to take up Merrick Garland’s nomination sets a precedent that Trump can’t nominate her replacement because there’s a Presidential election coming up. I fully expect them to take the position that Presidents can only nominate Justices during the first two years of their terms.
How do you think that’ll work for them?
Doesn’t even matter any more. Republicans just gained seats in the Senate, so now the squishy Rinos don’t have any power either.
Any replacement justice is sailing right through.
Whoever has the majority makes the rules. If Democrats had the majority in the Senate when Scalia died, Garland would be on the court
Yes, I’ve been told that elections have consequences.
If they hadn’t just lost even more Senate seats, what they think might matter.
the “Biden Rule” is only when it’s politically expedient.
/checks Senate election results
it would not be politically expedient right now to exercise the “Biden Rule”.
I’m looking forward to the Dems making the argument that the Senate’s refusal to take up Merrick Garland’s nomination sets a precedent that Trump can’t nominate her replacement because there’s a Presidential election coming up.
The same rules apply. Trump can nominate whoever he wants just like Obama nominated Garland. And the Democrats can use their committee chairmanships to block the nominee just like the Republicans used their committee chairmanships to block Garland.
The Biden rule was that Reagan (then & Obama (recently)) was at the end of his second term. Thus there had to be a new president when the election was over. So, that lame duck president should not fill a vacancy on the court. It should be left to the incoming president.
That rule doesn’t apply to a first term president who has a reasonable expectation of holding the office after the election.
The Dems can’t even keep their own fucking rules straight.
can’t nominate her replacement because there’s a Presidential election coming up
They will do this but the scenario is different. Barry’s Team did not control the senate when Garland was nominated.

It’s a Porsche – made in Springfield.
shoulda got the Glock with turbo and leather trim ?
It is a clone of the Sig p238. A .380 ACP micro pistol that operates very similarly to a 1911.
Excellent choice. I have the p238 and love it. I cant shoot it as accurately as I can the J frame Smiths but for its intended purpose it is more than adequate.
My wife and I picked up a pair of Sig p938’s a couple of weeks ago. I am up to 350 rounds, and my wife is up to around 300 I think.
I installed ArmaLaser green lasers on both of them. Nice laser for $150.
I really like 1911s. I have shot many, but have never owned one. I already have a suitable carry pistol, and I much prefer rifles, so I have always spent expendable income on a new rifle instead of a new pistol. Eventually, I will have all the rifles and start in on the pistols I want. Until then, I wont have a 1911.
Congrats. I hope your daughter loves it.

I think they are nice pistols. The recoil is quite mild for such a little light weight gun.
The extended mags makes shooting them quite enjoyable and the sights are very nice.
No laser.
I gave her a case of ammo as well.
FedEx is dropping off 6 extended magazines tonight.
Nice.
I think we really did humanity a disservice allowing them to use the Karl Marx coined term “capitalism” instead of “liberalism” or “economic freedom” w/o fighting back. It’s a deliberately framed propaganda term w/ the ugly word “capital” in it.
Some of these people seem to think any country which has a currency is a “capitalist” system.
there are two types of countries: Utopias and capitalism
National populism is unstoppable – and the left still doesn’t understand it
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/nov/08/national-populism-immigration-financial-crisis-globalisation
For a number of years Europe has been in the midst of a significant challenge from national populism, as a succession of recent elections have shown in Italy, Austria, Hungary and Sweden. Yet this is a movement that remains poorly understood. – ehm it is decently understood if you look at it
When I first started working on the subject in the late 1990s, an unwritten law of sorts was that there were four democracies that would never succumb. They were Sweden and the Netherlands, because they were historically liberal, the UK because of its strong political institutions and civic culture, and Germany, because of the stigma left by the events of the second world war. – well you are not very good at this are you?
The left has always struggled to make sense of national populism which seeks to prioritise the culture and interests of the nation, and promises to give voice to a people who feel that they have been neglected, even held in contempt, by distant and sometimes corrupt or self-serving elites. – go on …
Ever notice that when it favors them it’s “democracy” and when it doesn’t it’s “populism”?
You know what’s the perfect answer to populist nationalism? No, silly, it’s not political humility, devolution, and respect for tradition. It’s more identitarian Marxism!
Humans have been tribal before they walked on 2 legs. Doing things for the good of the “global community” goes against our programming. This should not be surprising.
“feel that they have been neglected, even held in contempt, by distant and sometimes corrupt or self-serving elites”
I can’t find a more recent source, but in 2015 18% of the Senate went to college at Harvard. 10 of 435 House members were Harvard grads. Harvard has 6600 undergrads of the over 17 million undergrads in the country. So even if you start from the premise that only people with a college degree are fit to exercise political power, it’s pretty crazy that a school that accounts for 1 out of 2500 undergrads (.004%) somehow is 17% of the Senate and 2% of the House.
That’s just elected representatives. The bureaucrats, who really run the show, are at the policy making level basically a bunch of people who all went to the same 30 schools, either as undergrads or in postgraduate study.
Now, maybe these people really are the best and the brightest, this is a natural meritocracy and the deans of Harvard and Yale are just really really really good at picking and grooming America’s brightest and most capable young people, and thats why the Yale Law yearbook from 20 years ago is basically a whos who of the powers in Washington. But then again, maybe not.
I’m willing to accept the “natural meritocracy” argument from an historical perspective. Unfortunately, merit is no longer the most desirable prerequisite for those institutions.
Merit based systems are despised by SJW types, because it results in inequality of outcome.
“Now, maybe these people really are the best and the brightest”
My sister work at Harvard (and has a PhD). According to her, Harvard is no different than any other tribe – intelligence means jack-shit there compared to perpetuating the brand and the hive mind. From her 30+ years working with various people in Boston, she’d rank Harvard behind MIT, BU, and Northeastern on the intelligence scale. What keeps Harvard at the top of the heap is the fact that independent thought is seen as a threat so they simply don’t allow it internally. Been that way since the 17th century.
The left has always struggled to make sense of national populism
Maybe. Now they don’t even try to understand. And that widens the rift.
GREAT NEWS GLIBS!

So glad that tax money paid for this study.
I beat the average, for once. My micropenis is 3 1/4″.
I beat the average
*snort laugh
I once when out with a girl from Thailand who thought that a micropenis shouldn’t cause a problem in our relationship. But no matter what she said, I still had a problem with hers.
Dudley Punt?
Didn’t we see a study last year that found women like big dicks more?
I am confused, unless the left is trying to promote incompetence, impotence and helplessness.

Whycome them hicks resist allknowing Eurocrats?
You could have the most enlightened, far seeing, near psychic leaders that could somehow magically know what everyone wants, and give it out.
And I would still hate ’em.
I thought the ending of At World’s End was the most libertarian thing I’ve seen in film in quite some time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42mn6N7pPA0
Goes right along with what you are saying.
Kingsmen, too, at least the first one. (Haven’t seen the second.)
I’ve not seen it but I’m going to add it to my list.
The first one was good, but I still hated the climatic ending, it just went too cheesy for me. I can see how it would work in a comic book, but it didn’t work for me in live action. The second one was solid, but there was some strangeness in it (and some choices that didn’t really work). Overall both are decent popcorn films.
Populism is democracy. Assholes clamoring about the virtues of democracy should quit their bitching if they ain’t happy about the results of populism.
Whatever systems allows them to obtain and maintain power is the proper one and it changes from election to election.
Kick ass, Sloopy!
Pussy privilege.

WTF?
She is hawt?
If you really are concerned about the possibility of fascism rising in the U.S., shutting down the likes of Antifa, with extreme prejudice, should be high on your list of priorities, even if you’re on the left. Yes, there’s the obvious fact that, behaviorally, they’re, by far, the most fascistic group in American politics today. But, let’s suspend disbelief and pretend they’re really out there in opposition to what they view as the rise of right-wing extremism. Even if that were the case (again, it’s not), the existence of groups like Antifa only fuel the radicalization of conservatives. When you let groups like Antifa physically chase relative moderates like Tucker Carlson from the public square, well, it isn’t relatively moderate guys like Tucker Carlson who will remain the conservative voices in the public square. It’ll be guys on the right who have the wherewithal and the lack of moral squeamishness to make sure it’s they who are doing the chasing off the public square. And people on the right, and even in the middle, will start to view these sorts of guys as the good guys.
That’s the thing people miss about the rise of the Nazis in Germany. They didn’t just appear out of nowhere and rise only because nobody stood up to them. A lot of people wound up seeing them as the only people who would stand up to the communists, who were all too happy to assault respectable conservatives, moderates, and even liberals.
The puppetmasters pulling the strings want conservatives to kill them. Then the pols can screech about rising Nazism and try to create more 1A and 2A restrictions. The Antifa dooshbags are not just useful idiots, they’re cannon fodder.
^^THIS^^. The State wants nothing more than a violent backlash. Tinfoil hat me wonders how much of the right-wing militia activity of the 90’s was an FBI OP. Much harder to get people to voluntarily give up their freedom when there isn’t a wolf at the door.
^This.
Then why aren’t they beating on people in places where civilians can carry? Get the mob going in Dallas, Indianapolis, Portsmouth NH, etc…
They are desperately looking for Nazis and bitter-clingers in Portland and Seattle.
Which speaks to how much of a minority they really are. It’s easy when you click link all day to thing these people are something more than they are. These fuckwits shenanigans wouldn’t last long outside of their little urban enclaves.
*click links all day to think.
/@#%#$^
Patience, grasshopper.
They are desperately looking for Nazis
They need only look in the mirror.
I’m not so sure. As Drake points out, they’re usually focused on very liberal enclaves. And I don’t think people in the political class think that far ahead.
Simpler explanation? A sense of entitlement. Progressive politicians see their cities as “theirs”. And some bunch of outsiders come in and go against the grain arguing for conservative or libertarian views? Well, they’re just making trouble.
I’m not too keen on recreating COINTELPRO. The bigger problem is that people committing crimes, up to and including violent crimes, are not being prosecuted equally depending on their politics. That is a rot that needs to be expunged, but one should not turn into a monster just because he fights monsters.
I’m OK with labeling ANTIFA a terrorist organization and prosecuting them accordingly. There’s little to no difference between them and AQ or the IRA.
But I also agree that the issue is the uneven application of law enforcement. Stalking and harassing people shouldn’t stop being a crime because the stalker is politically motivated. Reporting a crowd of people shouting and intimidating someone, trespassing, and even damaging property should result in someone going to jail. Thing is, if the state won’t do its job and keep the peace, that vacuum will be filled by people who won’t be as concerned with impartiality and limiting violence.
No offense but I think that’s a bit hyperbolic. Until they start car bombing or suicide bombing that’s kind of an unrealistic equivocation.
/in no way condoning anything that they do.
I’d just be happy to see them arrested for harassment, destruction of property, menacing, etc.
Ya know, the exact charges we would get if we acted that way with no political top-cover.
I’d agree that AQ or the IRA might be a bit much. But, say the Klan? Not a massive difference.
Meh. The Klan in 2018 sure. No comparison to the Klan of the 1950’s. They aren’t burning churches or bombing offices or conducting moonlight lynchings. I am struggling to think of a ‘right-wing’ equivalent. Antifa doesn’t engage in covert subversion (that we know of), they are more like a lynch mob than anything else.
Antifa is there to make people forget about the Democrat-supported street gangs that do more domestic violence than any other organized group. To the left, power via intimidation is fine as long as a ballot box is in there somewhere.
They aren’t burning churches or bombing offices or conducting moonlight lynchings.
No they’re shooting up offices (N. Carolina) or smashing office windows and leaving threats (Manhattan).
To the left, power via intimidation is fine as long as a ballot box is in there somewhere.
I read an interesting book a couple of years back. It was by a retired cop who went on to become a historian. What he noted in the book was that pretty much every ethnic group in America had its own mob over the years. And the mobs pretty much historically existed as an arm of the local (usually Democratic) political machines. The Italian mafia just happened to be around when Prohibition provided a big enough money making opportunity that the mobsters could become more powerful than their masters.
But, the takeaway is, yeah, Democratic politics has a long history of enforcement through mob violence.
Still, I don’t think the comparison is there, yet. A few incidents and similarities doesn’t make for an accurate equivocation when the group you are comparing them to murdered hundreds if not thousands over the years. I’m not trying to be pedantic (I’ll leave that to USC) but in the age of LITERALLY HITLER!!! I thinks it’s best to avoid hyperbole. Their main purpose IMO is what Q spelled out above.
None taken, I’m mostly just frustrated and blowing my stack a little bit. But I do think that at a certain point you have to start taking people at their word. Antifa is a loosely-affiliated international movement that has declared political opponents to be existential threats and advocates violence against them. People associated with Antifa repeatedly allude to the anonymous use of violence of threats of violence against, well, basically anyone who isn’t Progressive enough, and people associate themselves with Antifa for the purpose at least of being associated with that violence, if not perpetrate that violence in the name of the goals of the movement. It strikes me that people who associate themselves with Antifa do so because they’ve decided speech isn’t enough, and that they intend to at least support the use of violence against political foes.
I’m OK with labeling ANTIFA a terrorist organization and prosecuting them accordingly.
How does that work? Classifying organizations and prosecuting people for memberships (if that’s how it works) strikes me as wrong when it’s so straightforward to simply prosecute people for violence per se. This idea makes me queasy; it smells like a persecution tool, like hate crime laws.
/sincere question
Same. I started to write a response to this effect but decided to only focus on one point. Labeling a Terrorist organization is just another Statist tactic of rack-n’-stacking groups.
I’m not ok with prosecuting people for belonging to an organization period. I also think RICO is bullshit. Prove that someone did something, or at minimum directly conspired to further the doing something with the person that did something, or fuck off. No criminal penalties without:
1. Mens Rea
2. Actus reus
In my loopy-doo rant world? Terrorism is a federal offense, so there’s an added level of prosecution there.
In no way am I advocating for a return of COINTELPRO. The problem is exactly what you’re identifying – the political class in mostly liberal cities gives these sociopaths a pass.
I think you nailed it. The political class is hoping for and counting on a violent counter movement.
We’re saved!
As of Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 7, 4:45pm eastern time) seven candidates with science degrees have won seats in US Congress. An eighth candidate, Kim Schrier, a pediatrician running for Washington’s eighth district, is six percentage points ahead of her Republican opponent Dino Rossi as votes are still being counted.
These eight candidates were part of a class of Americans with some training in science who attempted to fill seats in US House of Representatives and Senate in the midterm elections, bolstered by the 314 Action Fund, a political organizing group founded by a chemist with the express goal of putting more scientists in office. It takes its name from the number pi.
But the wins for science don’t stop at these fresh faces. Now that Democrats have gained a majority in the House, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology will flip too: As Rebecca Leber at Mother Jones points out, that crucial committee has been run by Republican science deniers since 2011.
Team IFLS to the rescue.
maybe we’ll finally get an answer as to why pants-shitting hysteria is so appealing to AGW adherents.
And they say we don’t have religious tests for office.
These people must have been really disappointed when they weren’t able to nominate Ben Carson in 2016…
This is one of those times when I just don’t have enough middle fingers to go around.
FFS: The degrees these 8 hold?
3 Engineers
1 Dentist
1 Nurse
1 Pediatrician
1 Psychologist/Computer engineer
1 Environmental attorney/Ocean engineer
I, for one, look forward to being lectured about global warming by a dentist.
Speaking of our next Supreme Court justice, I will say again: I want to see somebody with meaningful criminal defense experience who did not graduate from Harvard or Yale.
I crack myself up.
I do too. There are serious structural changes that have taken place due to the lack of non-ivy-league and non-prosecutorial background.
Clarence Thomas is only 70. Not sure why anybody thinks he’s got one foot in the grave.
RBG has more than a decade on him. As far as decrepitude goes, Sotomayor took a digger not long ago, as I recall. Fucked up her shoulder. Likely cause: severe diabetes.
Last April
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s shoulder injury is more severe than initially believed, the court’s press office said Thursday.
Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said in a statement to The Hill that Sotomayor, 63, will sit for arguments next week but curtail activities that require travel.
Sotomayor broke her left shoulder when she fell at her home on Monday morning. The court said Tuesday she would be in a sling for several weeks and undergo physical therapy, but would not miss work.
Put her out to pasture.
Breyer is a decade older than Thomas too
okay, that’s just too much winning to go there.
I saw bits of a TV interview with RBG during the Kavanaugh hearings. She could barely get words out. She is shockingly frail.
But the only question is whether or not she is mentally sharp. I don’t care if they wheel her into court on a gurney so long as she is coherent.
Shit, I’m only 49 and barely coherent some days.
Was she ever coherent?
RBG is terrible politically and fully subscribes to the progressive view of a living Constitution but she is a very intelligent woman and generally a decent human being. Kagan and Sotomajor are the evil idiots. I get why everyone on the right seems so breathless with anticipation over every hint that RBG might die and give Trump the chance to nominate a successor, but let’s try not to go full on prog “the personal is political” here.
She’s so old, she didn’t get the memo about not being friends with people with nearly diametrically opposed ideologies.
God, if my ‘friends’ and acquaintances only knew what I really think…
she could be a hood ornament and the Left would still demand she be wheeled in while her clerks write her opinions.
^^^This. She could literally be in a coma/vegetable and they’d still trot her out.
My grandfather made it to 89. He was coherent and quick-witted right to the end.
My father is currently 83. He continues to run a small ad agency. He plays 250 to 300 rounds of golf every year and walks most of them.
My mother is also 83. She continues to volunteer at the local community theater.
Age is not the issue here. RBG is not a healthy woman. This is the problem.
You know who else suffered from bad health toward the end of their career…
William Henry Harrison?
Ron Jeremy?
Carlo Gambino?
Patrick Swayze?
Hillary Clinton?
Age is not the issue here. RBG is not a healthy woman.
This. She looks as frail as my grandparents, who are a decade older than her.
Dedicated to RBG.

I agree that this is probably not tactically sound but if your instinct is to empathize with the fear of the Carlson family rather than with the fear of his victims then you should take a moment to reflect on why that is.
8:28 AM – 8 Nov 2018
“his victims”, huh.
Yeah if Sadbeard has witnessed Carlson committing violent crimes, he should call the police.
It’s getting harder and harder to play the “both sides” game anymore
“his victims”, huh.
The people Tucker Carlson “DESTROYS”
Scrolling down through that list there are a few of those where I wish he was interviewing a non-dunce.
I like Tucker but damn is he dead-wrong on a few things.
C U N T
Christ, what an asshole.
Functionally retarded asshole.
All the MAGA-inspired violence comes from the never-Trumpers. So it’s not counter-violence, it’s just doubling-down on the existing violence.
But….but….there are no mobs! Bad Orange Man made it all up.
Notice “the fear of his victims”.
He is asserting that Tucker Carlson has “victims”.
What? Nobody said anything about terrorism. He’s just talking about using threats of violence to cause fear for political reasons.
Left wing violence: Organized, funded groups with stated political agendas and directly linked to George Soros and the DNC.
Right Wing Violence: Loner nut jobs with no tangible links to anyone, with varied, nonsensical and murky ideologies that only loosely can be construed as ‘right-wing.’
Yep, totally the same.
And Tucker is connected to any of this how, exactly?
Well, yeah: the latter is obviously worse. Do you even respectable institutions?
If you think that not supporting open borders automatically makes someone a “racist” then you should probably accept that your ideology is dying. It’s almost as if these people pay no attention to what’s going on with votes throughout the West.
A mere five years ago, my opinion on immigration made me look like a radical. And today I’m a Nazi for holding the same opinions.
