Well both league championship series are tied up after the Astros had a rough night on the mound. But they’re coming home tomorrow. Hopefully that will help. The NLCS gets back underway tonight in LA. Tons of upsets in college football this weekend, including Georgia falling, Penn State going down, WVU shitting the bed and and Washington losing late. Alabama is a juggernaut and Ohio State is ranked number 2, but better get their defense shored up or the night game in West Lafayette could turn into another Iowa.
Int he NFL, the Chiefs finally lost in an incredible game with the Patriots last night. The other winners were: Philly, Atlanta, the Stillers (in typical “beat the Bengals” fashion), the Chargers, Seattle, Miami, Minnesoooooda, the Jets, the Redskins, Houston, the Rams, the Cowboys, and Baltimore. Its Packers-Niners tonight to round out the week’s slate of games.
Today’s birthdays include Roman poet Virgil, philosophizer Friedrich Nietzche, boxing champ John L Sullivan, writer PG Wodehouse, novelist Mario Puzo, pitcher Jim Palmer, dutchess Sarah Fergusson, Chinese businessman Jack Ma, filmmaker Penny Marshall, singer Richard Carpenter, singer Tito Jackson, and skateboarding legend Stacy Peralta.
Its also the day Napoleon arrived on St Helena, the Edison Electric Light Company was incorporated, Alfred Dreyfus was arrested in France, Mata Hari was executed for being a spy, LaGuardia Airport was opened, “The Great Dictator” was released, “I Love Lucy” made its small screen debut, the (useless) Department of Transportation was created, sow as the Black Panther Party, George Brett was forced out of the World Series with hemorrhoids and Clarence Thomas was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.
Good stuff. But now…the links.
Antifa really don’t like other groups exercising their rights. Its as painted as “rival factions”, but anybody with a brain can see the assault on video and the response.
If you’re going to interview someone, try letting them answer the questions before interrupting them. Otherwise you’re likely to end up getting this for an answer. Supporters will say how much he owned her. Detractors will say he’s an asshole. SO basically, it was pretty much just like every other interview the man’s given.
As polls shift, some Democrats are beginning to push the panic button. Gee, I don’t know…maybe running on endless investigations and impeachment aren’t big sellers for voters in the age of low unemployment.
I’m not sure if Hillary Clinton is a hypocrite or if she just doesn’t give a fuck. Either way, I won’t hold my breath for #metoo Hollywood elitists to condemn this. Why? Because we already know they’re hypocrites.
Sears officially shits the bed. Schedules the closing of 142 more stores during Chapter 11 filing.
Here’s how you remain credible in today’s media. You completely misrepresent a public figure’s statement in order to generate clicks (and opposition to him). You wait two days, all the while breathlessly reporting on what a racist he is for the statement for two solid days. You send your talking heads onto other media outlets to gin up support. Then you quietly issue a retraction a couple days later on twitter and don’t bother making the correction on your network while simply moving on to other stories. Bravo, NBC. You’ll probably get a Pulitzer for this shitshow.
Bicycle race organizers take a stand against a stupid government knee-jerk decision. Good on them, but I bet it won’t matter.
Now if only some of the race organizers her would have protested something equally stupid, then a woman could have actually won a womens race.
Skimpy birthday list today, but we’ve still got this to keep us happy.
Go have a wonderful day, friends.
The fat bottomed grrrl’s self-description
I love the “public intellectual” descriptor. Xe must be a blast at parties.
If you have to tell someone you are smart, attractive, or in charge, you aren’t.
I routinely remind you impudent mammals that I am a domineering space-faring Reptilian Overlord. And many of you believe me…
Yeah, sure, whatever.
Keep it up foolish mammal, and we’ll skin suit the mammal with the cankles and make damn sure it’s ‘her turn’
Yeah, sure, whatever.
I SURRENDER!
I mean, you are a lizard after all. I think you’re on a different tier from us mere mammals.
A public intellectual sounds just like something a public intellectual would make up to feel important.
Twitter Intellectual is my new self-descriptor.
That is going on my tax returns.
He doesn’t mention that he’s only recognized as an expert when he looks in a mirror.
I’m a private intellectual

Trans vegan.
Do all of the hormone replacements pass the vegan test?
Given that most birth control pills are still made with pregnant mare urine, probably not.
Edit: Or not. Certain HRT drugs are mare urine; BCP has switched over to synthetic hormones exclusively since at least 2007.
That sounds like an awful lot of pregnant horses.
The old preg mare she ain’t what she used to be…
Public Intellectual
But are you a stable genius?
What poll shift?
538 has Red keeping the Senate 80% with 51/49 most likely.
538 has Blue taking the House 80% with 227/208 most likely.
It’s been about this level for weeks, even through Kavanaugh.
There is only one poll that matters and is accurate*. It is the one done on election day.
*they tell me vote fraud never happens, so we shouldn’t look for it.
“538”
There’s your problem. Find the internal polling. The Dems are going into freakout mode because the House is looking a lot less sure than it was.
I still trust Nate Silvers analysis. He’s a partisan prick when it comes to his writing, but I do think he is still a nerd at heart and just wants a good predictive model. He can’t (ok he can a little) help that polling data sucks, but he’s done what he can to try to correct for it. I think that Republicans thinking they will continue to control the house gar l are deluding themselves as much as the Dems thinking they get the Senate.
Look at the oversampling of Dens again. They’re not learning their lesson from 2016 relative to the enthusiasm gap that no longer exists. They made that mistake once and apparently either haven’t learned from it or they’re going all out to try and depress R voters into staying home. It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. (And if they shut the bed as spectacularly as last time, they may never be taken seriously again outside of NBC and CNN.)
“They’re not learning their lesson from 2016 relative to the enthusiasm gap that no longer exists.”
Nate tracks historical accuracy of the polls. I’d be floored that he doesn’t take into account the past errors of the different polling outlets.
Their weight of old polls outweighs their significance. He tracks averages and ignores trends more than he should. Look at his analysis of Arizona as an example.
“the oversampling of Dens again”
Well, they haven’t contacted me.
Somebody tried to sample me on Sunday.
I ate his liver with fava beans and a nice
chiantiold fashioned.I do not drink…wine.
They called me last week, but it was a farce. The questions only allowed you to indicate whether you planned to vote R or D – not voting or third party or write in was not allowed, nor was undecided at this moment. In addition, the poll questions were “Do you plan to vote for candidate A who eats live babies and drinks the blood of old people and minorities, or candidate B who will fight for your rights against such madmen?”
Real clear showed a move last week in the overall polling, but it appears to have stabilized. My opinion as a Public shitlord is they house flips narrowly and the Reps gain a few senate seats.
Manic Monday: The Fascists Are Coming!
A fascist regime that’s taken over all 3 branches of govt
Ain’t democracy grand?
They really need to learn what “fascism” actually is. These are dangerously ignorant people.
No TW: DU?
Now if only some of the race organizers her would have protested something equally stupid, then a woman could have actually won a womens race.
The level of mental gymnastics required to set up a special league for women because they cannot physically compete against men, and then open that league up to men because they dress like women, and still maintain the pretense that there is a special league for women, is truly remarkable.
I’ll show you a science paper!
‘This is accepted science…’
Right alongside Newton’s law of gravity and Einstein’s Relatively.
Seriously any ‘scientist’who says this crap should be censured by the professional scientists who realize there is little ‘accepted science’.
“accepted science” = something a professor asserted on Twitter
Wrong – being bathed in Testosterone throughout fetal development and puberty and into adulthood has effects on muscle development that can not be reversed simply by reducing T later on.
Give that man a cigar!
Euphemism?
And it’s laced with testosterone.
That’s also objectively wrong, as far as the accepted science goes. One series of Vitamin T leads to both acute and lifelong changes in muscle protein synthesis. That’s why most professional athletes take steroids in the off season – the carry over effects for the rest of their life are significant. The muscle synthesized during the times of “elevated” (compared to hormonally female) testosterone (aka the first 15 or whatever years of life) remain as long as that muscle is maintained, which takes much less work that synthesizing it in the first place. These people also are more sensitive to stress (aka exercise) and adapt (build muscle) more quickly than always-hormonally-female athletes.
Logical Falacio
Transgendental?
It’s even more mind numbing when we are told that there is not much separating the genders. Also, social constructs and shit.
I hate that stolen base. Yes, “gender” is socially constructed; no, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t significant physiological differences between the sexes that are determined prior to birth. There are qualities societies associate with those differences, and the fact that while there are slight differences between cultures there are many, many more similarities that tend to compliment the sex-based differences should tell you that the sex component is the real determiner.
Sure there isn’t much separating the SEXES but you know what? A half a standard deviation shift in a population has a massive impact at the margins and people in the first 2 standard deviations above the mean don’t even get to compete in World Championship sporting events forget win them
Need we drag out the Williams sisters’ (possibly the best female tennis players ever) embarrassing tennis video again? Or maybe video of Annika Sorenstram (the best female pro of her era) trying to make the cut in the men’s tourney.
Antifa really don’t like other groups exercising their rights.
I don’t call them “Pro-fa” for nothing.
If I was a woman athlete, I’d probably refuse to participate in an event with a man. If someone thinks they are the wrong gender I feel for them, but you can’t deny biology. If you are biologically male you should participate in the male events. It’s not about your mental state.
That picture looks like a ans SNL skit Belushi would have done 40 years ago.
Also, what’s with the age brackets? Aren’t those malleable, too?
Sure, biologically I’m in my prime years, but I feel like a 65 year old when I run, so I should be able to compete in that bracket.
See? SEE?
So we’re going by the one-drop rule again?
Apparently.
The ridiculous part of all of this is that there are a lot of people in the US with Native American DNA, myself included. But the presence of such DNA has no bearing on our lived experiences or perspectives. And in Warren’s case, she used that claim to get special favors from Harvard, taking those benefits from someone who might have actually needed them because of their socio-economic status. She’s just a self-important opportunistic bitch.
“She’s just a self-important opportunistic bitch.”
How great would it have been if John Kelly had said that instead of the more tepid “rude”
She also never grew up on the Rez, doesn’t have dark hair, eyes, or Native skin-tone. So, the reasons for affirmative action sure as hell wouldn’t apply to her.
And 6-10 generations wasn’t 3rd, like she claimed.
So she got a friendly researcher to pretend to run an analysis, the raw results of which will never be released (because they don’t actually exist), and the best he could even make up was that she might have a native American ancestor 6-10 generations ago when she originally claimed her great-parents were Cherokee on account of their high cheekbones. Vindicated. Let’s start the coronation for 2020.
Three generations…six generations, what’s the difference?
A Stanford University professor, not Ancestory.com – call me doubtful.
“dating back 6 to 10 generations,”
Did you see that goal post move? You should have, it jumped about a light year. Hey claims were to be half to quarter Indian (remember it was her daddy who had to elope with Mama). To say this vindicates her is ridiculous.
Anyone whose family has been in this country for a over a century can make that claim. Big fucking deal, this vindication isn’t a vindication at all, it’s actually proof she was full of shit whether by accident or on purpose.
I was going to say the same thing. I’ve got family who has been here since the Spanish colonized in Louisiana.~450 years. You don’t see me running around saying stuff about it.
About being Native American, even though I can probably prove it just as much as Warren.
Louisiana going back that far? You almost certainly have it.
My family had to go back seven generations to find the most recent person to get off the boat.
I don’t know how far back the first on-continent ancestor is.
I can’t wait for a distant relative in the year 2500 AD to do their ancestry.com. My shot into the gene pool may just get him elected.
Ewww.
The funny part is that her just doing the test is a win for Trump. How seriously should we be taking someone who actually has the need to prove their ancestry?
If her great-great-great-grandmother was Native American, that puts her at 1/32nd American Indian. But the report includes the possibility that she’s just 1/512th Native American if the ancestor is 10 generations back.
South Park already did it.
yea… 6 generations is 1.5% – 10 generations is .09% – this is news?
Was just going to point out that being 0.1% of something is really stretching it.
Whoop de doo. Hey, statistically, every one of us white European descendants has Charlemagne as an ancestor. Where do I pick up my Holy Roman Emperor crown?
The Holy Roman Emperors were elected.
on the bright side Creech you only need to campaign to 7 voters.
I am not sure it would be possible to find someone whose family had been in America for more than 3 generations who did not have at least some Native genes. Also native blood somewhere between 6 and 10 generations ago? She claimed native blood within 3 to 4 generations at the most

Ohio State is ranked number 2, but better get their defense shored up or the night game in West Lafayette could turn into another Iowa.
The last two OSU – Purdue games I attended ended in us rushing the field after knocking off a Terelle Pryor led top 10 OSU in 2009 and the overtime game in the Shoe in 2012.
Since I won’t be attending this year, OSU will win handily.

Of course you are, sweetums. Now go play with that sparkly horse doll you love so much.
She talked to that one professor about it in Canada, and he just nodded his head.

Maybe after he ate a bag of peanuts and had a hornets nest drop on his head.
That was my first thought, too!

Twitter Intellectual is my new self-descriptor.
You could say you identify as a public toilet. It would be a step up.
Trump snapped at her again: ‘Well, no, even the way you asked me a question, like, about separation. When I say Obama did it, you don’t wanna talk about it.”
‘I’m gonna run your answer, but you did it four times,’ Stahl said.
‘I’m just telling you that you treated me much differently on the subject,’ Trump complained.
‘I disagree, but I don’t wanna have that fight with you,’ Stahl said.
Trump responded: ‘Hey, it’s okay.’
‘All right, I’ll get in another fight with you,’ she said.
‘Lesley, it’s okay. In the meantime, I’m president and you’re not,’ Trump said.
It is a pretty good burn.
I didn’t want to laugh at that, but I did.
This is the funniest version of the universe.
FUNNIEST TIMELINE confirmed?
I don’t watch the news and have made it a point to avoid hearing any president speak since late the late Bush era, so whenever I do hear Trump talk, I can’t help but smile that he’s president. It makes me giggle still, and imagine it always will.
Oh snap! That is funny. Damn it Lesley, why’d you have to make me like him a little bit more?
If I was one of the female cyclists up there I think I’d be pissed. Look at how much better shape they appear to be in than the nonbiological woman-all that work for nothing.
I did enjoy his shit-eating-grin and shitlord posture. Maybe he’s one of ours?
I thought the same. Maybe a week from now this guy comes out and says, “just kidding, I’m a dude!”
Speaking of the “identify as” idiocy. I was reading a little article about some “mountain mama giving circle” or some such thing in Bozeman. There was a notice about an upcoming meeting, and I’ll be damned if it didn’t say, “All those who identify as women are welcome.” I wonder how they’d respond to my “lesbian trapped in a man’s body” identity?
Just imagine how fun it would be to be trapped in a room full of sincere, caring, generous progressive activists; I’d rather have my balls gnawed off by a large rodent.
Funny thing is they would rather you had your balls gnawed off by a large rodent too
How many games in a row does UCF have to win to make the playoffs?
I would have thought that after screwing them last year, pollsters would have them up near the top until the they lose.
Ah yes with their grueling schedule of which they were spared a semi-legit opponent due to a hurricane….
Although with the 4 team playoff model they should be given a shot at humiliation if no one else in the top 25 has a perfect record.
I thought the NC game was going to be rescheduled? They did beat Auburn in January.
You are right that they should be scheduling better non-conference games. I see they have Stanford next year.
I don’t think they are going to reschedule the game. They don’t have free weeks that line up. There was talk of going out and finding another game, but I don’t think that went anywhere.
As to the UCF schedule…
They beat Pitt like a dog…. 45-14. Pitt is middle of the road P5… not that great. But Pitt does have wins against Syracuse and GaTech, and lost to “They should be in the college playoff” Notre Dame by 5 points in a game that one could argue they should have won.
We’ll find out how good they are this year at the end of the season. They finish with back-to-back top 20 matchups.
UNC was not a semi-legit opponent.
Funny, when that game was scheduled, UNC thought they were getting a win against a second tier program and UCF thought they were going to gain legitimacy by playing up and adding name P5 opponents.
How quickly things change. UNC is terrible. They’d be mediocre, but they don’t have a quarterback. And it looks like they just lost their 3rd string QB. They may have to go to a 3 back wildcat look… it is that bad.
And I say this as a proud Tar Heel alum.
Oh, and for UCF, they don’t have anything to apologize for with their schedule. Their conference is tougher than half of the P5 conferences. Auburn was “the best team in football” last year when they beat Alabama. UGA winning the SEC allowed an Alabama team that not only didn’t win their conference, but didn’t even make the conference championship to get an invite to the college playoff. That was a joke. UCF took out Auburn, proving that they were legitimate and the NCAA is a joke for excluding them from the playoff.
The only fix I can see is expanding to an 8 team playoff and only allowing conference Champs. The P5 champs, plus 3 additional conference champs. If you don’t win your own conference, you don’t play for the natty. It should be that simple. (as a bonus, that would put an end to this Notre Dame stands alone nonsense)
The only way that works is if you also fix the conference championships to be better representative. A team that drops all their non-con games, drops a shitty division game, and beats the otherwise undefeated division champ will make the conference championship game.
IMO, I’d almost rather just kill the non-con schedule and start a massive tourney in early November where each conference tourney feeds directly into a massive national playoff that culminates in the bowl games. (shades of March madness)
It would completely turn tradition on its head, but when’s the last time you heard anybody cast doubt on the tourney basketball champ?
“CORRECTION: An earlier tweet misidentified the general President Trump described as ‘incredible’ at a rally in Ohio.
First guns, now tweets have come to life. Run.
To be fair, Lee was almost assuredly a better General than Grant.
I had a co-worker go off on how the south thinks they are so patriotic, but love Lee, when Lee killed way more Americans than Osama bin Laden, to which i said “The same could be said about Grant”.
At the start of the war maybe, but given the lack of success Lee had after Stonewall Jackson’s death it remains an open question just how much the early success of the Army of North Virginia had Lee could realistically claim credit for.
But Grant had only one useful characteristic, he was ruthless. He was willing to kill as many people (on either side) as it would take to win.
Lee was a good tactical level general who could read his opponents better than they could read themselves. He was at best below average operational and strategic level general. Grant was a constant tactical level innovator but a consummate level operational and strategic level general which is why the Vicksburg Campaign is the only CW campaign still studied at Ft Leavenworth.
Grant finished the war in less than one year from starting the Overland Campaign and he used his subordinates in such a coordinated manner that the people living down south, and their armies, knew the war was done and they weren’t leaving the Union. He is the only American commander to have forced the surrender of three armies. In fact, the army that surrendered at Vicksburg was larger than the ANV when Lee surrendered.
Senator Elizabeth Warren has released a DNA test that provides “strong evidence’’ she had a Native American in her family tree dating back 6 to 10 generations, an unprecedented move by one of the top possible contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.
Okay Trump. Fair’s fair. LET’S SEE THEM TAX RETURNS!
He should release his great, great, great, great, great grandpa’s tax returns and say, “How’s that?”
Well they didn’t have income taxes back then sooooo…..
MSNBC: Proof the Trump family has not paid taxes in generations
How much mileage do the Dems think they’re going to get out of the tax returns? Even the idiotic NY Times claim that he broke the law is pretty much the stuff of jokes. It’s pretty clear what he was doing was aggressive but legal. Do they really think anyone is going to turn around and say “Gee, I was thinking of voting for Trump before, but he didn’t voluntarily bend over and grease up for the IRS? Well, that’s a dealbreaker.”?
Over the weekend the NYT was on to accusing Jared Kushner of paying no income tax, with that dark loophole known as “depreciation.”
‘Lesley, it’s okay. In the meantime, I’m president and you’re not,’ Trump said.
I like it, but under the circumstances, “I’m President, and Hillary’s not,” would probably have been an even crueler thing to say.
Lol.
Lesley Stahl amazes me every time I see her. She never seems to be able to comprehend what she is hearing and make any logical inferences from it. It is especially bad when she does some story on Tech (and she does a lot of them). She is breathlessly amazed when some snake oil salesman tells her how the next Big Thing is EVIL/GOOD. She never, never, never says, “Hey you said A is the issue, but if true, how do you account for B?”
The one that made me rant and rave was back in the late ’90s when some guy was scaring her with how easy it was to “spoof” an email address. He sent her an email from “Bill Clinton”. She was absolutely flabbergasted that something like that could happen. She never thought to ask him about how easy it is to spot something like that, or how is it different than a scam artist sending you snail mail on a fake letterhead. Nope. Just hyperventilated about how moar regulation was needed.
Lesley Stahl doesn’t strike me as an especially sharp lady.
No, but in order to combat the “young bimbos in short skirts” over at Fox News, they have
Leslie and a few other older journalists showing plenty of leg on the set. Hey, time to wear flattering pant suits and sensible shoes, ladies.
Chiefs finally lost in an incredible game with the Patriots
Nice clock management. You might want to work on that.
*Actually, I would rather have seen that one play touchdown drive and eventual loss than the new bullshit where somebody pulls up on a march downfield late in the game to kick a field goal in the expectation of getting possession of an onside kick and marching downfield for a touchdown. Just go for the goddam TD.
Chiefs finally lost in an incredible game with the Patriots.
This may be the headline in 2020 if Warren gets the nomination.
Looks like all the hype about Mahones is true. Running for his life on every other play is probably going to catch up with him though.
You’d think scoring 40 points in Foxboro would be enough to win. But, not with the Chiefs’ D.
Naw. They were a mess.
Pats’ D, on the other hand, ran Mahomes ragged. Scrambling is one thing. Having to scramble on every single play is another.
Look at it this way- he had a better day than poor Marcus Mariota. Though Mariota got a lot more time to rest on the ground.
Not really
Yeah, ESPN this morning reported Speaks pulled out of the tackle for fear of a roughing call. There was a defensive holding on the play so it may not have mattered anyway.

Back from Charleston. Thoughts:
Weather was pretty great – in the 80s – with some muggy armpit mugginess that eventually disappeared once the sporadic rain disappeared.
Lots of southern gals seem to have larger bottoms than their northern counterparts.
I got tired of the phrase “Y’all”.
We only had one day of high hurricane related weather – where gusts were hitting 50mph. That was considered enough for them to have a school off day, along with businesses closing down too.
Being back at work sucks but the resumes will be flowing today.
I went on a ghost tour where I took a photo of a graveyard. Later, when I looked at the image, I saw a ball of light on the bricked walkway that wasn’t there when I took the photo. Huh. So I went back to the same graveyard a night later and took out my phone to see if I could reproduce the ball of light. And yes I could. It was a lens flare that I could move around as I shifted the phone. This time I got the ball of light to sit on top of a grave.
Food was great. I packed on an easy 5 or so pounds.
TSA was horrible – as usual – but my white male privilege worked just fine and I got no extra security attention. My wife, on the other hand, got a further pat down.
You were being haunted by JJ Abrams?
Exactly!
It’s the cornbread.
I went to my 30th high school reunion over the weekend. It was kind of funny that the women got shitfaced while the men stayed fairly sober. At least one classmate went on a Kavanaugh rant at 120dB in the Marriott bar area.
Was she/he drunk, throwing Ice?
She was quite drunk and ready to start throwing punches.
Her husband had an “oh shit, not this again” look on his face.
Probably forces him to have sex with her when she gets like that…
Was the pat down by an actual TSA imbecile? Or was it one of those “undercover” employees who look just like a normal dude, but assured you he really was TSA?
Pope Jimbo, Federal Breast Inspector.
TSA dude.
Titty Squeezing Authority
Do you even acronym bro?
I got tired of the phrase “Y’all”.
Bless your heart.

Don’t you rubes forget that all you mouth breathers hyperventilated against Medicare back in the ’60s and now it is one of our most beloved programs ever!
Uffda. Are we ignoring that Medicare is horrendously expensive? And the idea is that even though we are paying too much now, adding millions will make it better?
It’s hard to argue with Medicare’s success
No, it’s really not.
>>Sears officially shits the bed
I was surprised, but not exactly shocked when Sears closed down the local store. It had been an anchor of a quite successful mall ever since I was a kid, and it was our go-to place for refrigerators and whatnot. But the inventory, even with the white bread Lands End, wasn’t anything I was interested in. And no more catalog buying – hello, internet! – and what did Sears, besides Craftsman tools, have to offer?
I have no damn idea what this is from, some kid’s show or something I guess, but this is awesome (when you’re overqualified for the job):

The first @CNN numbers for 2020 Democratic presidential nomination just released this morning:
Biden 33%
Sanders 13%
Harris 9%
Warren 8%
Booker 5%
I wonder if CNN’s resident marxist will also refer to it as a whitelash again when one rich, white old person gets beat by another rich, white old person.
I see that Amy K is only at 1%. I’m sure that the fainting couches at the local rag are completely booked today. They’ve been pushing Klobuchar as some legit candidate for years and she can’t crack 1%? It is like the coastal elites don’t even read their editorials!

No. A child’s soft drink would be minipop.

Is Biden ready for #metoo?
If the Stupid Party wasn’t Stupid, they would run nonstop voiceovers from Alyssa Milano and other Metooers over video of Creepy Uncle Joe Backrub.
Being the Stupid Party, they won’t.
Uhh, I don’t see herself on that list?
In fairness, Biden is the best person on that list.

Re: the antifa/patriot prayer mini riot.
Apparently the antifa guys are carrying around pepper spray. Now call me a what you like, but paper spray is for cops and women who aren’t prepared to carry a gun. If one of my buddies found out I was carrying pepper spray, they would probably kick my ass just on principal.
If you pepper spray me, I’m liable to ventilate you because I assume you’re going to beat the shit out of me after I’m incapacitated.
Ya nothing like leaving an obvious sign of evidence that one party clearly initiated force
I carry pepper spray. It’s handy to have an intermediate level of force between harsh language and shooting people.
Yes, I was once threateningly approached by two unarmed bums in a busy grocery store parking lot. They didn’t back up until I rested my hand on my grip and told them not to take another step. They both then proceeded to stand just outside my zone while screaming at me at the long the top of their lungs while I tried to finish loading my groceries one-handed and my head on a swivel.
Was not a pleasant scenario, and I didn’t like any of my options. Pepper spray may have been the ideal tool here.
Hilary saying Bill sleeping with Lewinsky wasn’t an ‘abuse of power’ is not surprising and par for the course. She hasn’t been made to account for her emails which was just as scandalous if you ask so why not just create an alternate truth in your mind?
If those aren’t examples of abuses of power in her head, could you imagine this wretched, worn out woman in power?
I love that. If you believe in Progressive social justice, then you have to accept the idea of structural power: privilege, in other words. Bill Clinton, has more power than Monica Lewinsky because he is a white man, while she is a white woman. He has extraordinarily more power because he is the POTUS, while she’s a lowly intern. Just by being that person, he exerts power over Lewinsky whether he is actively doing anything or not; she can’t make decisions or in any way escape the influence of that power, which is why you need special legislation to counteract it. So, either you say it was absolutely an abuse of power because the power imbalance meant that Lewinsky didn’t even have the opportunity to be willing or not, or you believe the idea of privilege is a crock of shit and people make decisions based on a complex matrix of influences, including personal influence but also including inexperience, desire, the whole kit and caboodle.
I thought slick willie got purged a few months back. Maybe he has been rehabilitated already? I dunno. I thought it took some contrition on the part of the offender and a struggle session or two before one could be brought back into the good Grace’s of the SJWs. Must be his white privilege that got him off so easy.
I think the problem is that the Clintons are a package deal. If you want Hillary, you’re going to have Bill in the wings. If you dump Bill, that means you’re going to have to find some way to kick Hillary off the stage, too.
This is just a prebutal for 2020. She’s tanned, she’s rested, she’s ready… HILLARY 2020!
Pre-brutal?
She’s tanned
I imagine that this particular skin suit didn’t require much work to get that leather-chic quality to it.
But can she stand on her feet for 20 minutes without assistance?
For any of you shitlords who want to hear Karen Monahan bitch about Brother Keith. A news story that is actually pretty decent.
I’ve said this before, but I think this gal is just as full of BS as Ford. I hate to defend Brother Keith in any instance, but in normal times her smear wouldn’t have gotten much play. I think the testimony does show him to be an entitled asshole (but that is normal for a pol, isn’t it?), but it doesn’t seem like he is an actual abuser of women.
In a sane world, people would acknowledge that the PoundMeToo movement has jumped the shark and moved back to demanding a bit of real evidence before destroying some guy. Unfortunately, the MeToo loonies will be used to go after Team GOP and when it blows up in Team Dem, they will try their best to ignore it.
“Those rules include requiring cyclists to wear fluorescent garments and ride single file in groups of 10 or fewer.”
Once again, arbitrary one size fits all garbage.
I’m interested in hearing more about the imbecile from the city council who was killed while biking. Was he riding in the dark with no lights? In dark clothes? Running a stop sign?
I’ve ranted about this before, but the hipster neighborhood where we rehydrate after playing old fat man basketball is infested with idiots who are riding their bikes in the dark with no lights or reflective crap on. The only way you see them is when the red glow of the traffic light they are blowing through reflects off them. I feel so sorry for the poor bastard who hits one of these idiots after having a couple beers. They will blow well below a .08, but MADD and local prosecutors will go after them because it is “alcohol related”.
Worse than that. They’re reinventing the common etiquettes and rules of the road. I can’t tell you how many fucken idiots I see on a bike path who walk, stroll, run or cycle on the wrong side because ‘they can see oncoming traffic’. What is infuriating is they refuse to move over thinking those of us doing it right have to. The arrogance they have is dangerous beyond belief.
I avoid bike paths where I can. Even the small 2 mile stretch I need to use to get to the fields is not without some kind of stupid behaviour.
People riding their bikes against traffic are asking for it.
I was turning right out of my place of employment and almost splattered a guy riding on the wrong side of the road because he was obscured by the parked cars, I had no reason to expect someone there. On the opposite side of the road was another lad on the correct side, who is much more likely to die of old age.
On a normal road with cars, you walk against traffic and bike with traffic. Or at least as I understand it that’s the law in New York for roads without a sidewalk.
I don’t know the rules for bike paths.
Traffic accidents are recorded as an alcohol related incident whenever any party to the accident has any amount of alcohol in them.
If stone sober Lachowsky is driving slightly buzzed jumbo home from the bar and a stone sober deer jumps out and I hit it, then that is put in the national database as an alcohol related accident and is used to pad the numbers that keep the funds flowing to MAAD and the rest of the DWI industrial complex.
Got that damn flu shot this weekend and now I’m feeling like shit.
I haven’t had a flu since 1997 – true story!
Probably just the chemicals that turn you gay. Just ask Alex Jones.
Did you get the shot from a reputable company? Or was it a shady flu-by-night job?
Uff-da. Ill be damned if I’m laughing at that.
I am not convinced that I have ever had the flu as an adult. I have never had the flu shot.
I was a very dirty child and will still eat (some kinds of ) dropped floor-food. I never wash my hands except while showering or if some spill/substance incident arises. I flout unreasonable social conventions of “cleanliness” and sneer at the customs of germaphobes outside of a hospital.
My immune system is adonic in its power. Hear me roar.
*note to self; never shake hands with Evan*
Or borrow a porno mag from him.
Ah, silly comrade. Hand shake you!
Never had a flu shot and I have never had the flu.
/also drank creek water as a kid. I dunno. The amoebas were probably good for me.
My God, how can race organizers and other women cyclists accept that?
As the great Austin Powers once said, ‘That’s a man, man!’
Just look at the quads. To say that “if his testosterone levels are the same as a woman it’s no different’ is ridiculous on the face of it. I feel bad for female athletes cause they are fucked either way. If the complain, they’re bigots. Of they go along with this, they have to let men compete with them.
If the complain, they’re bigots.
The new term is TERF, apparently.
Holy shit, I just paid attention to the race! It’s a UCI sanctioned race!
Yeh, that’s not good.

Is it possible this is accurate?
No. If you’ve grown to maturity as a man, your musculoskeletal system has developed much differently than a woman’s has, regardless of how you’ve monkeyed with your hormones as an adult.
^This. And “accepted science” is a phrase people use when they don’t have the evidence necessary to support their claims.
That’s also why it’s a bad idea to neuter or spay dogs at a young age while their musculoskeletal systems are still developing.
Exactly, I won’t spay or neuter until they are fully mature for just that reason, which my vet agrees with.
What do you think?
From the Kevin Williamson pieces linked above:
The world must be ending. It must fall to us to prevent the apocalypse. Because, if it isn’t, if life is just going on more or less the way life does, then what’s the point of all this huffery and puffery, all the public weeping and dressing up in silly costumes and cutting ourselves off from family and what friends we have? The angry partisan cannot believe that life is good, because he must then ask himself: If life is good, then why am I not enjoying it? Why do I feel so alone, so frustrated, and so meaningless?
Listening to Bernie, yesterday, you would think we’re living in some sort of dystopian Hell on Earth, where life is meaningless for all but a precious few Scrooge McDuck plutocrats, lolling in their pools of gold dubloons, sipping the aged and subtly seasoned blood of infants as they amuse themselves by degrading and tormenting the hapless masses.
Why not just end it all, Bernie? Seek the sweet release of the Void.
He makes an interesting point. Once you’ve crossed the Rubicon you’ve got to keep going if for no other reason than to justify all the previous bad choices and insanity. Now that you’ve disowned family, ended friendships, and developed a reputation for loudly castigating people who disagree with you like an avenging angel of Progressivism, how can you possibly take it all back and face them? When you’ve crossed the line from political to personal you do real and possibly permanent damage to those relationships, and not many people can stop the slide, admit they’ve made some mistakes, and face those people with the humility necessary to restore those relationships to anything like what they were.
Sounds almost cult-like, don’t it.
Except nobody is rushing to deprogram their obnoxious asses.

this is good:
Our situation is not quite so stark, but it is analogous. Longstanding American institutions ranging from the First Amendment to the Electoral College to the Senate have been suddenly and rashly declared “illegitimate.” Why? Because, at the moment, they are keeping the Left from getting what it wants. The Left wants to silence certain right-wing critics and dissidents, and the First Amendment stops them. The Senate and the Electoral College perform their intended constitutional role in protecting the interests of the less-populous states and their residents, ensuring the protecting of minority interests from the tyranny of the majority. This annoys the would-be tyrants. (They are, to their discredit, unable to truly appreciate that political tides turn, and that majorities are fickle things.) The ordinary political processes of the United States have produced results that the Left does not like, and, hence, those processes and the institutions that enable them must be considered illegitimate. The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is to be understood as a national emergency because . . . Democrats would prefer to have somebody else, and they believe they having something like a divine right to rule.
That’s a pretty big truth bomb. I think the thing that KDW does best is lay these things out in ways that pretty much anyone can understand.
That is how I read that originally. I’m cannot put into words how disappointed I am right now.
Think how disappointed you’d be seeing Sloopy in his B-Day suit.
It was this week two years ago that Hillary Clinton’s victory looked assured, when the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape of Donald Trump bragging about sexual assault appeared all but certain to end his campaign.
They are still calling it that? It’s not assault if it is wanted, and what he said is that they let you take liberties if you are rich and/or famous.
Lehrich said he sees similarities between 2016 and 2018. But he said he thought Democrats were cognizant of the parallels and determined not to let up a month before the election, as many voters might have two years ago.
Maybe you should have muzzled your crazies and not called for political violence.
Hold up, what?! Like hell it was. NATO was established to create a “permanent” military alliance initially among the European allies and the US against the threat of Soviet invasion in the aftermath of WW2. Europe was rightly concerned that Stalin, an expansionist, would try to expand to fill the vacuum created by the defeat of Germany. NATO was formed and has always been about countering the threat of the USSR and now Russia. If it prevented WW3 it was purely a side-effect of deterring Soviet/Russian military aggression.
The purpose of NATO?
“To keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Germans down.”
It irritates me to no end when faux libertarians like Welch get indignant at the idea of not letting the Baltic states into NATO, much less disbanding NATO. They honestly think that we should be willing to get into an actual shooting war over Russian aggression in its own region.
So? I don’t want President Know-it-all. I want an executive who knows his/her strengths and delegates the rest.

REPENT. THE END IS NIGH.
Unfortunately, as the climate report indicates, we need to be preparing for things to get worse. The full costs of relying on outdated estimates of coastal flooding risk can already be measured in the currency of lost lives, ruined local economies and deep, multigenerational scars gouged into our country’s social fabric. Scientists can provide decision-makers with estimates of the rates of sea-level rise over the next decades, including some worst-case scenarios. But a more complete understanding of the physical risks of coastal flooding is only the first step. We’ll also need to consider how the natural and built environments may compound or mitigate flood risks to communities. And policymakers must decide how to allocate finite public resources to protecting lives and property across communities marked by huge disparities in economic capacity and inherent resilience.
There is no doubt that we will be playing catch-up with our new climate reality for decades to come, even as it shifts under our feet, in a vicious and unforgiving game of cat and mouse. The new climate report outlines a path for an aggressive drawdown of atmospheric carbon dioxide levels that would avoid some of the worst damages associated with climate change, and we must get started in earnest on a host of no-regrets actions toward this end. We have some promising success stories from many American cities and states, but federal action is long overdue. Hurricane Michael pointedly reminds us that reducing emissions is only part of the climate change solution.
The real lesson from the recent spate of record-breaking heat waves, hurricanes and wildfires is that the highly polarizing political debates around emissions reductions have sidelined important conversations about protecting American lives, property and livelihoods from natural disasters fueled by climate change. Here’s hoping we can find common purpose in uniting to protect our front-line communities, including the vulnerable urban and rural poor, from the ravages of ongoing climate change.
Why won’t you people listen? Bow down before the altar of DOOM.
Blah blah blah. These endless pronouncements of doom just around the corner…who is listening to that shit? It’s been ten years out for the last 50 years. The Big Blockchain Lie
Now that cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin have plummeted from last year’s absurdly high valuations, the techno-utopian mystique of so-called distributed-ledger technologies should be next.
Someone got a hold of one of the mad-libs Vox uses to write its articles.
Seriously. I thought they were about to go somewhere with the screed, and then it went completely incoherent.
I was thinking “well, this is stupid…” and then it morphed to “ahh… sorry. Not stupid. Crazy. “
The person who wrote this has no clue about Blockchain. It is pretty recognized as a big/new advancement in CS. It’s not the answer to everything, but to say that it is worthless is ridiculous. I guess if you can reduce something to a simple analogy it must not be worthwhile. Computers are just simple bit-wise calculators. The Internet is just an oversized file system. And we know that not many women work in these fields (relative to the men who dominate it) so it’s time for it to go away.

Gotcha. So a la 1984…
Man is Woman
Comfortable hipsters playacting mental illness.
What makes you think they are playacting?
Isn’t it strange that these compulsions are odd but not debilitating? You have a man who fancies himself a woman, maybe he truly does have a dissociative order, but it’s expressed in dressing up like a woman and affecting the stereotypical mannerism. It’s not like traditional OCD, which may be slight or severe but is expressed in atypical habits and proves to be an actual impediment to the sufferer. It’s outside the normal variance of human behavior, whereas transgenderism is the substitution of expected norms from one class of humans to another.
Then you have the compulsion to dress up and behave like an animal, but not a porcupine or a jellyfish or buffalo or some chimeric nightmare of her own invention, no, it’s something well within the human experience, a domesticated animal, and a twee rendering of it. And does she shit in the yard and live in a doghouse? Is she corpophagic? No, she just favors the sort of behavior one wouldn’t be surprised to see in a child.
/internet psychiatrist off
When it comes to self-mutilation to realize the fantasy, that seems like an honest marker of mental illness… but I put the blame for indulging it on the therapists and surgeons who go along with it rather than treating the disorder.
Just don’t expect me not to ridicule it.
And that’s the rub, isn’t it. The rest of us are fine with these folks doing whatever the hell they want. And before long that isn’t good enough. We have to “validate their lifestyle choices”. And recognizing the obvious fact that he’s not actually a puppy becomes an “act of hate”. And even ostensible libertarians start pretending there’s some sort of libertarian quandry in deciding whether anyone else is within their rights to recognize that he isn’t a puppy.
That is the whole point of it. That’s the point of the tranny biker winning a woman’s competition. They want to destroy team and competitive sports because those build character. They are shitting on and shredding the fabric of our culture because they are trying to destroy it. They want people to actually believe or at least pretend they believe the absurd. Obey and believe what you are told. That isnt a man, it’s a puppy.
Now, how many lights are there?
Obey and believe what you are told. That isnt a man, it’s a puppy. Now, how many lights are there?
I’m not sure if the individuals practicing these choices are so well thought out. But, I think you’ve nailed the mindset of the people demanding social approval in the name of tolerance.
The thing I don’t get is what the hell do they think comes next? Do they think they can keep an industrial, let alone post-industrial, civilization afloat when people have been taught to not acknowledge reality? He’s a puppy and not a person. Does that mean he should get treated with veterinary medicine when he gets sick?
If people can’t observe objective reality, all those little elements we take for granted living in a technological society have the ability to transform from delightful conveniences to human death traps.
That is actually part of the plan to reduce healthcare costs. 😉
Read 1984 again. I think that’s the roadmap they are following.
Yeah, probably. But, that’s the thing I never entirely got about the universe of 1984. Someone has to think. Someone has to figure out how you take a bunch of raw materials and turn it into the things we need to live our lives. Someone has to figure out how to transport tons of product across thousands of miles. Those things just don’t happen. And if you destroy people’s minds, how are they going to think? It all can’t be boots and faces and stomping. Some person’s mind has to remain intact enough to make the world work.
“Some person’s mind has to remain intact enough to make the world work.”
Yes yes of course. TOP MEN will do that. It’s the whole socialist Calculation Problem. Also I Don’t think the people in power really care if the rest of humanity starves to death, as long as they got to be the ones in power and living it up before they do.
“Some person’s mind has to remain intact enough to make the world work.”
The persons intelligent enough to do that are just as susceptible to pressure amongst their peers as lunkheads are. The state can enslave the mental labor of these people rather easily. What the state wants to crush is individualism. You are free to engineer new solutions – as long as they service the state; doing such work for personal gain is evil. If the pace of inventions slows because of it, the only threat comes from other “states” where individualism hasn’t been crushed yet.
Now you are giving them too much credit. If they could think things through they wouldn’t be radical leftists. What do they think comes next? They will be the one walking around with a clipboard, of course.
But believing in some form of God is just too absurd for them.
Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? You are! ::rubs wdalasio’s head::

if he is so concerned about firearm deaths, then he should start with a proposed mandatory buyback in Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, DC, New Orleans, et al.
Ban assault weapons, buy them back, go after resisters
It’s not a buy-back if you never owned it in the first place. It is compensated confiscation. And “go after” resisters? Good luck. There are more privately owned guns than there are people in this country.
I’m actually happy when Lefties come out with stuff like this. Stop lying about what your ultimate goal is. It exposes “gun safety” and other such BS exactly for what it is.
I’m honest about wanting abortion to be illegal except for very specialized circumstances, and I’m happy to talk about the reasoning that lead me to that conclusion. If Lefties would stop gaslighting and actually explain their positions, we’d all be better off. Of course, they can’t do that, because vast majorities would reject their reasoning. So they have to hide it.

I’m not sure if this is a taboo around here but I don’t see why—I’ve got a little travelogue about my trip to Hanoi coming out tomorrow. I hope you all enjoy. I also have a job interview/exploration on Wed night about an online editing gig. It pays for shit but the ex—with whom we have since patched our differences—suggested me for it as she moves back to Singapore. The job is technically for 40 hours/week and only $1150 a month or so. But she says it’s super easy and she’s only been working two hours a day for the past three months. Certainly need to see how the contract is structured to offset the possibility of them ramping up my workload, but with that money and that little time obligation it would be perfectly easy to break even in Chiang Mai. Those 10 hours a week to support myself would be a fantastic safety net to allow myself to branch out and start my own projects on the side.
I’m making red beans and rice for the first time. Hyper easy. I hate watching recipes online (Chef John is, indeed, almost always on point) and hearing ingredients that I simply can’t get. At least without paying an arm and a leg for it.

Have a good day, Glibs.
Look into Alton Brown’s Good Eats Red Beans and Rice. The protein is pickled pork you make yourself, with ingredients that should be fairly easy to obtain.

I find it impossible to imagine that in the home of sai ua, you can’t find a suitable substitute. Learning to cook, instead of following recipes, takes a little doing but it is very worth it. I haven’t followed a recipe (other than for breads, which is a special case) in a long time.
Ah. I’m still in Korea. I don’t live in Chiang Mai yet. The food scene there, both restaurant and grocery/market, is one thing that I’m salivating over.Korean food is honestly my least favorite cuisine I’ve ever encountered. I’m planning on making the move in late Feb-early March.
I’ve been cooking for a long time. Food vids are just something I do for fun. Kinda meditative. I love making dishes (especially soups) from scratch and nursing them for the week. I’m actually quite a good cook. It’s one of two things that keeps The Lady around.
My issue with this place is that I have a *tiny* kitchen. My entire apartment, kitchen and bathroom included, is smaller than a fairly standard bedroom in the US. The easy cleaning and live-small philosophy is probably healthy on some level. Or at least that’s how I put a positive spin on it.
I only have one burner and a very tiny toaster oven. I do admit that it’s made made me up my One Pot game, but it’s just the worst when I need to cook two things at once or maintain a sauce. It will end up being good for me because you really have to hone your prep and timing, but it I really did take my old kitchens for granted.
Huh. What is it about Korean food you don’t like? It is one of my favorites and I’m not only saying that because my wife is a good cook and spoils me with lots of Korean food.
I’ve never been a fan of Vietnamese food myself. It always seems too fishy for my taste.
I don’t care for it either. Too cabbagey.
Surely you can get neck bones? That is what I use most of the time.
Juan Williams needs to seek out the assistance of a competent mental health professional before TRUMP! wrecks Obamacare and eliminates coverage of pre-existing conditions.
President Trump could hardly do any more damage to the United States even if Vladimir Putin wanted him to do so.
Having undermined trust in major American institutions, from the CIA to the FBI, last week Trump stuck a knife in the heart of the public’s trust in the Supreme Court.
After a series of polarizing confirmation hearings for a nominee whom polls show to be broadly unpopular, the president staged a crass political rally at the White House, including a superfluous swearing-in ceremony for Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Incredibly, the justices of the highest court allowed themselves to be used as front-row props for the cameras while Trump took credit for crushing Democrats.
——–
Trump’s damage to the court fits with the damage he has done to the CIA, the FBI, the Justice Department and the House Intelligence Committee under Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).
The Trump playbook is clear — if an institution or an individual does not agree with him, it is to be dismissed as part of the “deep state” conspiracy against him.
“Law and order” now joins “free trade” and “deficit hawk” in the ash heap of once-sacred GOP slogans jettisoned by Trump.
Trump has been called the “great disruptor” but it would better to label him as the “great destroyer” of trust in government as he goes about dividing Americans from each other.
That Trump guy makes Genghis Khan look like Dale Carnegie.
“Incredibly, the justices of the highest court allowed themselves to be used as front-row props for the cameras while Trump took credit for crushing Democrats.”
Wait, Juan, didn’t Pres. Obama do this at a SOTU speech in Congress? I always was told that “seasoned unbiased journalists with many years of covering the news makers” would never lose shit down the memory hole in order to make a political point.
I’m actually OK with Trump destroying trust in government.
I like the way you think. The funny thing is he’s not particularly nefarious, they just overreact so the destruction of trust is self-inflicted.
“for a nominee whom polls show to be broadly unpopular”
Well if that was even true to begin with it certainly isn’t now. Sympathy overrides principals (les) for some people.
Since when is SCOTUS a popularity contest?
BECUASE MUH BORSHUNZ!!!
since Leftists figured out they can’t win in the marketplace of ideas and actually pass legislation to further their agenda.
SCOTUS was really the only option they had left after getting crushed at the state and federal level in elections.
Crazy now to think that there was a time when I respected Williams’ perspective.
Same here. He wasn’t always a raving lunatic.
“President Trump could hardly do any more damage to the United States…”
Says the guy that just spent 8 years making excuses for Chocolate Jesus.
“Having undermined trust in major American institutions, from the CIA to the FBI…”
Those valiant, dedicated public servants did nothing to undermine trust themselves, nosiree.
President Trump could hardly do any more damage to the United States even if Vladimir Putin wanted him to do so.
PASS.
18 hours and counting, no cigs. I GOTTA quit. Like, now. I got some horrible lung crud in New Mexico and I can barely walk up stairs without huffing & puffing.
That’s great! Hang in there, it will get easier…
Oh, and the smoking dreams will pass…eventually.
You can do it!
Cause I did. And it will get easier.
(grabs 4 more nicotine lozenges)
Just power on. You’re likely to experience mild flu like symptoms for the next 2 weeks. And have a hard time concentrating
Then from week 2 to week 8 you will be a fully cognizant asshole. After 2 months you will regain your civility. Also recommend you dry out starting on week 2.
Good luck bold mammal, you’ll need it
Not drinking while trying to quit is very good advice. Nothing compromises the will like a three beer buzz on top of a nicotine craving.
I don’t really drink, so that’s not an issue. I gave up caffeine a couple months ago (caffeine + lady issues = bad), so coffee isn’t an issue.
Key is breaking routines. Telework is going to be hard.
You could always cheat with e-cigs. No more huffing and puffing.
Just be sure you avoid e-cigs, you might get addicted to cigarettes.
You know who else disliked nicotine use…
Michael Brown’s killers?
Wrong dead guy. Eric Garner was the loosies guy.
Yep, you’re right. Michael brown was the one who stole the boxes of cigs and attacked the cop.
Actually Michael Brown was stealing cigarillos or some such nonsense soooo maybe
Yeah but he got shot for attacking the cop. So of course the media barely acknowledges Garner and wen all in on ‘racism’ in Ferguson. dead for committing a misdemeanor violation of an utterly idiotic law (nothing to see here, move along) dead for attacking the cop, the one valid justification for police shooting (RIOT)
Garner wasn’t killed for a misdemeanor violation of a law. He was killed for standing near the scene of a fight whose combatants had run away before the police arrived.
The cops were called by bystanders, but by the time they got there, the fighters were gone. So they looked around and decided to roust Garner because one of the cops recognized him from a past arrest.
They demanded he allow them to search him, and he told them to fuck off, and that’s when they laid hands on him.
I hope I never run into anyone wearing an “I can breathe” T-shirt, because the impulse to kick them in the crotch and face until their IQ rises by 60 points (or they die first, I don’t care which) will be overwhelming.
This kind of shit is why I hate BLM so much. There are absolutely legitimate grievances about police brutality and authoritarianism; but these assholes hijacked it and turned it into yet another Marxist front group.
Was he even selling loosies? I thought I read that was never established. Which comports with steroid-raging meathead cops being wrong about absolutely everything.
He wasn’t selling loosies. See my above.
Well, that’s just enraging.

Keep it up! In a few weeks the rewards of quitting will far outweigh any pleasure you might have gleaned from the habit.
Speaking of farm subsidies
[W]e should take a moment to ask what would happen if we repealed farm bill agricultural subsidies instead.
The idea may sound fanciful. We’ve had farm subsidies for over 80 years; it’s hard to conceive of an agriculture industry without extensive government intervention. But we already have a good test case for what America’s farmland would look like without the farm bill: New Zealand.
———
New Zealand created an agricultural renaissance simply by removing the insulation from competition that subsidies, trade barriers, price controls and other protections created.
These policies may seem like good ideas to risk-averse farmers in the short term, but they encourage producers to maintain the status quo rather than focus on the ultimate source of their prosperity: customers.
Real competition — as opposed to collecting subsidies or a share of a highly regulated market —means identifying and developing the next thing customers want. New Zealand farmers did this, differentiating their products and commanding higher prices as a result.
The farm bill is not some strange combination of agricultural and social safety net programs. American farmers might be loath to admit this, but it’s a welfare bill through and through, with food stamps for needy households and subsidies for farmers.
Crazy talk.

Big Mutton? Isn’t that a rap song?
I like big mutton and I can not lie
You other Kiwis can’t deny
That when you see an ewe with wooly coat that is immense
And she’s caught in a fence
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
‘Cause you notice that bag of wool was stuffed
You obviously hate farmers.
Mencken:
“Let the farmer, so far as I am concerned, be damned forevermore! To
hell with him, and bad luck to him! He is,unless I err, no hero at
all, and no priest, and no altruist, but simply a tedious fraud and
ignoramus, a cheap rogue and hypocrite, the eternal Jack of the human
pack. He deserves all that he suffers under our economic system, and
more. Any city man, not insane, who sheds tears for him is shedding
the tears of the crocodile.”
“No more grasping, selfish and dishonest mammal, indeed, is known to
students of the Anthropoidea. When the going is good for him he robs
the rest of us up to the extreme limits of our endurance; when the
going is bad he comes bawling for help out of the public till. Has
anyone ever heard of a farmer makng any sacrifice of his own
interests, however slight, to the common good? Has anyone ever heard
of a farmer practicing or advocating any political idea that was not
absolutely self-seeking — that was not, in fact, delibertely designed
to loot the rest of us to his gain? Greenbackism, free silver,
government guarantee of prices, all the complex fiscal imbecilities of
the cow state John Baptists — these are the contributions of the
virtuous husbandman to American political theory . . . . Yet we are
asked to venerate this prehensile moron as . . . the foundation stone
of the state!”
“Yet we are asked to venerate this prehensile moron as the Ur-burgher, the citizen par excellence, the foundation-stone of the state! And why? Because he produces something that all of us must have — that we must get somehow on penalty of death. And how do we get it from him? By submitting helplessly to his unconscionable blackmailing by paying him, not under any rule of reason, but in proportion to his roguery and incompetence, and hence to the direness of our need. I doubt that the human race, as a whole, would submit to that sort of high-jacking, year in and year out, from any other necessary class of men. But the farmers carry it on incessantly, without challenge or reprisal, and the only thing that keeps them from reducing us, at intervals, to actual famine is their own imbecile knavery. They are all willing and eager to pillage us by starving us, but they can’t do it because they can’t resist attempts to swindle each other. Recall, for example, the case of the cottongrowers in the South. Back in the 1920s they agreed among themselves to cut down the cotton acreage in order to inflate the price — and instantly every party to the agreement began planting more cotton in order to profit by the abstinence of his neighbors. That abstinence being wholly imaginary, the price of cotton fell instead of going up — and then the entire pack of scoundrels began demanding assistance from the national treasury — in brief, began demanding that the rest of us indemnify them for the failure of their plot to blackmail us.
The same demand is made sempiternally by the wheat farmers of the Middle West. It is the theory of the zanies who perform at Washington that a grower of wheat devotes himself to that banal art in a philanthropic and patriotic spirit — that he plants and harvests his crop in order that the folks of the cities may not go without bread. It is the plain fact that he raises wheat because it takes less labor than any other crop — because it enables him, after working no more than sixty days a year, to loaf the rest of the twelve months. If wheat-raising could be taken out of the hands of such lazy fellahin and organized as the production of iron or cement is organized, the price might be reduced by two-thirds, and still leave a large profit for entrepreneurs. But what would become of the farmers? Well, what rational man gives a hoot? If wheat went to $10 a bushel tomorrow, and all the workmen of the cities became slaves in name as well as in fact, no farmer in this grand land of freedom would consent voluntarily to a reduction of as much as 1/8 of a cent a bushel. “The greatest wolves,” said E. W. Howe, a graduate of the farm, “are the farmers who bring produce to town to sell.” Wolves? Let us not insult Canis lupus. I move the substitution of Hyæna hyæna.”

one-handed research?
I gotta say there is probably 40% more real woman there than in your average real doll.
Does she pay the Daily Fail for this obsessive coverage?
You mean these are new links every time? I though the spud was just obsessed. I mean, obviously he is, but wow Daily Mail…get a life.

NYT headline: After Limo Crash That Killed 20, a Call for More Regulation
You could knock me down with a feather.
What, like double-secret regulation? He was already operating without a license, using a vehicle that had failed registration. It’s a tragedy, so we must… punish other livery operators?
They’re going after Uber and Lyft, aren’t they. It’s gun control hysteria writ small.
We will Regulate until nothing bad ever happens to anybody ever again.
You think they’ll stop there?
anyone read the sci-fi story Children of Time? thoughts?
I vaguely remember liking it. Faint praise, I guess, but I know I will read it again so there’s that.
I don’t know what’s more retarded about Elizabeth Warren… the fact that she actually took a DNA test, or the fact that she’s actually holding the results up as some sort of victory???
Imagine being so obsessed with identity politics…
It’s a rehash of the one-drop rule. MLK is spinning in his grave.
