I am made of busy. Fortunately the single busiest day is past, though there will be a significant local maximum next week. Hopefully the week after that work should return to normal levels. Of course, I’m moving at the beginning of September, so that activity is picking up. My visual media collection fits in four 12″ x 14″ x 18″ boxes. My cookbooks fit in two.
I have been so busy that I haven’t been able to Glib properly. I will say that after reading ‘s excellent fiction piece that this site is just some Gilmore couture reviews away from being Hefner-era Playboy.
It is very strange to have an alignment that lasts for a week, especially those involving inner planets. But this week we still have that good-but-awkward-lovin’ arrangement of Venus-Jupiter-Mercury (retrograde). It’s not in the same orientation, what with orbital resonances and all, but is still exists. Someone up there wants you to have good stories to tell. Please do tell in the comments. I’m sure there are lonely people reading that would appreciate it.
There is another, more disturbing alignment this week: Sol-Mercury (retrograde)-Terra-Mars (retrograde) with the Moon in opposition. Bad weather, destruction, extreme tides, loss, ill tidings, floods, wild animal attacks, drownings, fires. Other than that, things should be fairly routine.
With all this retrogradin’ going around, the zodiacal influences are stagnating. Capricorn and Aquarius are going to be with us for a loooong time. That’s not going to be too terrible actually, though we will be coming uncomfortably close to the very bad retrograde house crossing. Close, but it won’t be happening. So we got that going for us.
Other things we have going for us? Stars-aligning-for-destruction music.
Based on how I plan to spend Sunday, seems I may be Finnish . Do the stars have anything to say about that?
Me too! I am also Finnish on other days that end in “-day”.
Awesome:)
It’s 9:30 in the morning here, so I’m just getting started.
Pretty sure in America if you drink alone you are a labeled a full on raging alcoholic. What nation is it cool to drink alone naked?
I would hope all of them!
I don’t drink to get drunk so those people can pound sand.
I should have read the entire article rather than just the headline. I see they touch on that. I don’t drink alone to get drunk either, it just seems to be a side effect of my chosen activity.
Exactly. Plus I choose to support the dedicated craftspeople who dedicate themselves to making a variety of tasty adult beverages. Beer after work, wine with dinner, hard stuff after dinner but before 9PM.
dedicated craftspeople who dedicate themselves
Pardon me, I may still be drunk from last night.
Yeah, I have one drink alone on Friday and Saturday nights. (Well, any night I don’t have to work the next day.) The glass of wine at dinner, I’m sitting next to Dad, so not alone.
The voices in my head drink with me, so i’m never alone.
Glibertariastan?
It’s a hard call since their stuff is so consistently good, but I think “Absolution” is still the best Muse album – probably due to the more frequent, well-tied-in piano riffs. Love watching the vids where Matt shifts from Guitar to piano and back on the fly in the same song.
I thought they only had one song.
I wish.
I’m glad Muse gets play in the US now. They’ve been criminally underrated for a long time.
So, I have no problem with people liking Muse. Everyone has there own tastes. But what infuriates me is when they (and Imagine Dragons) are played on mainstream rock stations. They are not rock.
I Think I see your problem. You listen to mainstream rock stations, Do yourself a solid and get a Sirius/XM.
Actually, I have. I listen to Octane a lot. And while I am fairly new and haven’t heard it yet, I’ve seen comments on Facebook that even Octane has played Muse in the past. Of course, I’d rather hear Muse than this Grandson idiot they’ve been pushing lately.
I haven’t listened to Octane much, for heavier rock I switch between Ozzy’s Boneyard, Lithium, and Turbo, can’t say that I have heard Muse on any of them. I have no idea who Grandson is, sounds like I’m lucky in that way.
I liesten to all those + Hair Nation. WIth an occasional swing thru Bluesville
Here is Grandson. Played on Alt Nation (where he belongs) and Octane, which bills itself as the home of new hard rock. SMDH
Not too horrible, as you say not really hard rock, but I could see that played alongside linken park or korn.
Yeah, I’m not sure what they are, but I don’t think they’re rock. I’m not wholly sure what rock is, as such, but I think they aren’t in the center of that tent. Metal is more my wheelhouse, especially death metal and so-called “deathcore”, followed by a basket of random stuff ranging from Chris Stapleton to Depeche Mode, to The Naked and Famous, to Future.
But yeah, if Muse and AC/DC are both rock bands, the term is so broad as to effectively mean, “neither rap nor classical”.
Well, with their first album back around ’98-’99 (big college time) – they were definitely classified as Alternative. Since that’s effective gone away, I’d call them Rock although they’ve gotten a bit more electronic the last couple of albums than I like. First album was a decent intro, 2nd was pretty good (but didn’t get released in the US for almost a decade – I imported), 3rd as noted was amazing – probably the high water mark, but all their subsequent albums have remained extremely solid and listenable, but not the same technical talent level IMO. They ape at political messages as well – esp in the most recent album but the quality is so good, I don’t really care. Still haven’t caught a show, but their concerts on DVD and BR are always high quality.
Bad weather, destruction, extreme tides, loss, ill tidings, floods, wild animal attacks, drownings, fires.
That aint no lie. It was raining when I got up which is unheard of this summer and now we full on sunshine and humidity around 20%. Biblical end of times stuff I tell ya. And my pool pump still doesn’t work.
Sunny and no rain here albeit hot and humid. It is August though so as expected.
94 and an unusually bone-dry 45% here. I’m still not going outside.
Sounds like good weather for päntsdrunk!
Is there bad weather for päntsdrunk?
It was up to 91 degrees today, then a quick storm blew through, dropping the temperature down to the low 80’s. I’m hoping the temperature stays in this range (if not cooler).
“…Aquarius are going to be with us for a loooong time.”
That’s because Aquarius is the One True Sun Sign.
P.S. I find these posts highly amusing! Thank you!
I will say that after reading ‘s excellent fiction piece…
Who is ‘s, and what did I miss? My problem is I can’t keep up during the week.
I think it might be Sally,,,,,,
*AHEM*
*glares menacingly*
I’ve been away, I get it However…….
Probably Hobbit’s
That was awesome, and I am not a huge sci/fi fan. The things I miss.
USA! USA! USA!
Don’t you mean US’A! US’A! ?
He knows what he meant. He was to born in here after all!
I am working today. Demos all week. Data must be faked. Which is harder than getting real data in the system, for some reason.
Maybe Michael E. Mann has some free time this weekend to help you out with the data?

Luxury Chicken Diapers
Band name or album name?
Album.
What do the stars say about jerky? Any jerky makers here? I dusted off the Cabelas dehydrator today. Pink salt or no?
Careful if you bring any into the wilderness.
STEVE SMITH LIKE PINK SALT AND BY PINK SALT MEAN….
Pink salt. 1.1gm per pound.
For some reason that I can’t articulate, this makes me think of a SugarFree story.
Please let me know when so I can plan the moving van rental.
link
Your present situation would be a perfect time to rent that van.
Also; sorry to hear about your present situation.
Thanks. Nah, the only thing worse than looking for a job may be looking for a place to live.
Ain’t that the truth. I hate moving. The plan is to die (hopefully not soon) where we are now.
Any Yoopers here? Or people very familiar with the UP? The wife and I are planning a vacation to the South Shore of Superior. Haven’t decided if we’ll go all the way to Sault St. Marie yet, or stop short. Due to the mileage involved, one possibility that is fast moving to the top of the options list is to spend the majority of our time in the Keweenaw with maybe a day (or two) trip to Marquette.
Anyway…I’m asking for recommendations to must-see attractions and must-eat-at restaurants and any other must’s. Having a pasty as well as some whitefish are two culinary items on the list already. That and bringing back some smoked whitefish or lake trout.
Having a pasty
With or without tassels?
as well as some whitefish
Always with the racist fish.
“yooper”
My Glib word of the day. I just keep getting smarter by coming here.
Yeah, I had to look that one up.
I don’t know the condition now, but a few weeks ago the Keweenaw had a bunch of roads out due to flooding, so make sure to check that out before hand. If you’re into ‘supernatural’ the Paulding Light is kind of interesting. I enjoyed Big John’s Mine when we went there when I was a kid. And the Deyoung Family zoo lets you get up close to most of the animals.
Thanks CPRM. Iron Mountain looks right up our alley!
Bad weather, destruction, extreme tides, loss, ill tidings, floods, wild animal attacks, drownings, fires.
Wheeeeeee!
Meet West Bromwich Albion’s strange new mascot
(Should be safe for work)
OT: On the way back from the drug store I was targeted for a scam by the same fat, old cracklady who tried nearly the same thing on me something like four years ago. I turn onto the street I live off of and I see a woman who looks like she might be considering crossing the street, since she’s kind of wobbling indecisively next to a parked car. I stop so she can cross, she waggles her hands, I interpret that as, “Go on ahead, I’m still thinking” and start to go, when she waggles differently, to indicate she’d like to have a word. So I roll my window down.
She gives me a story about her van having broken down just up the road with her kids in it, and while she’s waiting for a tow truck she also needs to be somewhere with her kids about an hour away. She has called people but they aren’t picking up. Meanwhile, another car is trying to get down the road, so I say, “Let me pull over so this guy can get past and we’ll talk.” I do so, to find that she’s trying to get in the passenger side of the car. Fortunately, the doors lock when the car starts moving, so she can’t. I open my door and come around with a, “You’re obviously not an A student here so I’m going to give you a little leeway here, but my tolerance for bullshit has been exceeded” look on my face and tell her I’m not giving her a ride, but I’d be happy to call someone. “There isn’t anybody to call, though,” she says, then goes on to explain that she has dropped her kids off at a babysitter up the street and now needs a ride very badly. I reiterate that whatever else is going to happen, she’s not getting in my car, and again offer to call someone for her. She then asks–and this is what we call a “tell” in the business–if I can give her money for a cab. I say, “Nope. Maybe you can go back to your babysitter and see if she can help you out.” Then I get back in the car. Driving off, I see some poor slob in a Silverado hasn’t quite gotten his door open before she’s waddled over to try him. He does not look like a good mark.
So, mostly this is a “yeesh, crackheads, right?” story, except that I’m nearly 100% sure that this same woman had been trying to get people to drive her to a nearby ATM, where a male accomplice was waiting, in order to force the good Samaritan to withdraw money from the ATM at knifepoint and possibly take their car. I know this because of the several people who they tried this on, one actually bit (he was drunk coming home from a bar downtown) and, once the crackgentleman-of-fortune pulled a box knife out, proceeded to kick the living shit out of him, then posted his experience along with detailed descriptions of the people involved on the neighborhood Facebook page, as well as the local PD’s Facebook page, to whom he also made a more formal report.
Thankfully, my kid wasn’t in the car at the time. I’m not the kind of person who’s going to pick up a hitchhiker or take someone to an ATM or anything like that, but people get carjacked around here from time to time. Now ask me again about my perspective on concealed carry and why preventing people from carrying firearms for self-defense is immoral.
All of us could probably find some Christian minister who opines that this lady may have been Jesus in disguise checking out who was and wasn’t a Good Samaritan.
Ah. Atheist…huh, Creech?
Why did you even pull over?
So… there are two alignments listed…
One includes Sol. The other doesn’t.
My question: Is it possible to have an alignment without Sol being in the line? I mean, isn’t that part of the requirements for an alignment? That the alignment be oriented the sun?
