Sundays suck. You’re just getting into the swing of the weekend and you realize that, shit, it all starts again tomorrow. There isn’t even any football- yet.
Yes, I’m in a shitty mood. Even “Today in History” sucks. John Ball, who is an inspiration to us all for protesting taxes, forever wars, and the unaccountable Deep State, was brutally executed by some asshole king who was young, elegant, and handsome, so therefore totally woke. Christians broke into Jerusalem and slaughtered the Jews, while burning their synagogues to make the city Judenrein. Georgia was readmitted to the US, a major mistake that ended up giving us Jimmy Carter. Twitter was launched, plunging the world’s IQ into the single-digit range. There was seriously nothing good happening. Looking at birthdays, for a moment I got excited when I saw Ian Stewart was on the list, but then found out it wasn’t the mathematician, it was some guy who drove his car around in circles.
Fuck Sunday.
Well, at least I ran across a cute dog and baby pic. It’s still not enough.
And on these depressing notes, here’s some news to chew on:
Mencken once observed, “Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.” This is one of those times.
The police got a search warrant for the devices, claiming that they contain evidence of “Possession of Cannabis Less Than 20 grams” and “Possession of Drug Paraphernalia”—both of which Montanez already admitted to, which makes it unclear why the cops still want to search the phone to prove the charges.
It was that warrant that brought Montanez to court, where the judge asked him to unlock the phones, which he again refused—or simply couldn’t do because he didn’t remember the passcodes for the devices. Now he’ll spend nearly the next six months in jail for not allowing police to dig through his phones for evidence they don’t seem to need.
As stupid as the London “protests” were yesterday, this might even be stupider.
Across the other side of London, a pub in Hammersmith had renamed itself “The Trump Arms” for the presidential visit and was scheduled to hold an event Saturday evening featuring hot dogs, cocktails and other American treats. Decorated with copious amounts of American flags, MAGA caps and a life-size cutout of President Trump, patrons told Fox News they had come out of their way to show support for Trump.
On the one hand, we can only be delighted that the single most evil and corrupt member of the Senate has gotten kicked in her wrinkled ass by her own party. But it’s not like the alternative is any better, and if he’s not as blatantly senile, he could even end up being worse.
De León’s campaign has focused on the party’s energized liberal faction. He supports single-payer healthcare, aggressive goals for renewable energy and helped lead the successful effort to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour. He has criticized Feinstein, known for having moderate tendencies, for being too conciliatory toward Trump, such as when she urged people to have “patience” with the president last year.
Left harder!
On the topic of stupidity, I don’t know if I can top this.
When she was about 16, Ms. Ponce decided to undergo hormonal treatment and eventually vaginal plastic surgery, “to remove what for me was a burden and a trauma.” But she said that her message to the teenagers whom she now meets is always that vaginal surgery is a personal choice, and that it is not essential to being a woman.
“There are women with a penis and men with a vagina, because the only key part of being a woman is to be and feel like a woman,” she said.
I suspect that a “woman with a penis” probably doesn’t feel much like a woman, but what the fuck would I know.
Did I say that I couldn’t top the previous stupidity? Hold my beer. Vegan beer, that is.
The global workplace startup told employees this week that the company will ban employees from expensing meals that contain red meat, pork or poultry. The company won’t provide meat for events at its 400 locations, either — part of an effort to reduce its environmental footprint.
“New research indicates that avoiding meat is one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact, even more than switching to a hybrid car,” WeWork co-founder Miguel McKelvey said in an email to staffers.
Employees wanting “medical or religious” exceptions can hash those out with a company policy team.
As a lifelong vegetarian, I admit to being embarrassed.
Wait, didn’t somebody make a remarkably shitty movie about this?
“The waters are back open this morning. Ocean Rescue will remain on high alert and will continue monitoring the water,” the city said on its Twitter page Saturday — which just happened to be Shark Awareness Day. The city fire department said it received a report of the first incident at 3:35 p.m. ET Friday. Three minutes later, while attending to the first victim, the department received a report of a second biting incident. The city then closed the beaches to swimmers.
There’s only one thing that can possibly cheer me up. Yes, indeed, Old Guy Music. I admit that I’m not much on dinosaur tours, but at least this one still had Robert Fripp, even though Greg Lake was unavailable due to being dead. And it’s a pretty enjoyable rework of a classic, capturing the way I feel today. Still, couldn’t they have replaced the three drummers here with one Michael Giles? (trivia: the singer here is Giles’s son in law)

“As Trump tried to blame Obama for his potential crimes against his own country”
An awkward phrase. Considering how wrong the same sorts have been, I suspect there is no link between Trump and the Russian hackers.
“It was Obama who warned for years that America’s election system and infrastructure needed to be upgraded and repaired. (A warning that was ignored by Republican state and local election officials.)”
Weird how they didn’t provide a citation link for this one. I guess it’s so obvious that all local election officials around the nation are Obama-hating Republicans, they didn’t need to.
Yes, let’s federalize the vote-counting apparatus, that sounds smart and not prone to system-wide corruption.

I don’t recall Obama warning any such thing. I do recall energetic denials and pooh-pooh’ing of talk of voting fraud.

MediaMatters: Republican hearing on Peter Strzok was a charade to try and stop the super important Russia investigation!
Do we know Strzok isn’t a russian agent? I mean really know?

I saw some spin that is was “character assassination” against the Strzok. Because he’s clearly such an unimpeachably honorable guy.
According to a Media Matters review, Fox News helped congressional Republicans in advancing their baseless claims of bias by hosting seven Republican congressmen in the prime-time hours after the nearly 11-hour circus of a hearing.”
Baseless… You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Yeah… as a “burn them all down” libertarian, I am still fascinated by this one. I don’t know how much more evidence you could possibly expect.
We have the Obama administration sabotaging the incoming Trump administration by seeding classified information around the government with the intention that it would be leaked to the press after the inauguration. We know this is a fact because they bragged about it in the New York Times, so partisans can’t dispute that this was done.
We have illegal “unmasking” of supposedly incidentally captured american citizens’ phone calls – which just so happened to be members of the Trump campaign – by Obama administration officials… not prosecuted or punished or even greeted with outrage, but celebrated.
We have the FBI producing an investigation that failed to actually interview the target of the investigation or really put any pressure on any of the prime players – yet still produce iron-clad proof of multiple felonies – somehow manage to completely whitewash all charges against Clinton. And now we know that this investigation was headed by a yellow-dog Democrat who was not only a fervent Clinton supporter, but was also violently opposed to Trump.
Then the FBI puts the same guy in charge of neutrally investigating “Russian Interference” in the election – something that other intelligence agencies tell us was targeted at causing chaos by promoting candidates like Sanders and Trump. Interestingly, we have DNC emails that show that the Clinton campaign and the DNC were also interested in helping promote the Trump campaign at the same time. Yet the FBI immediately focuses on spying on the Trump campaign, something that would have been unthinkable even months prior.
And now we have a “Russia investigation” that isn’t too interested in finding out about Russian interference, but seems entirely focused on investigating associates of Trump and stretching the law as much as is needed to ensure big, scary indictments that will force someone to roll over on Trump and give them their POTUS scalp. This despite the fact that we have no evidence of any illegal activity on the part of the Trump campaign at all.
Hell, they even raided the office of his personal attorney. Just wrap your head around that for a minute. Nixon’s team broke in to the DNC to find out about their strategy and we roasted them as criminals who threatened democracy. These guys actually went after the records of the President’s personal attorney for what are quite apparently partisan reasons. And nobody even bats an eyelash. Just imagine for a moment if Sessions had raided the Clintons’ attorney’s office. Or even the Clinton foundation for that matter?
Just the amount of information that is public makes Watergate look like a tempest in a teapot. Yet we keep pretending like there’s nothing untoward here.
As a third party observer, I’m astonished. I knew the left was a bunch of team-first partisans. But I had no idea that their supporters were this lock-step mesmerized. There are some rabid leftists in the media who are also pretty ideological. I figured that they would balk at this level of abuse of power, but no, they are happy to participate. We only have fringe journalists like Greenwald who seem to be willing to report this stuff objectively.
There is literally nothing of US politics in the last two years that you could have convinced me (or anyone else for that matter) would have been possible in the United States back in say, 1990. Not then, not ever. Not Trump getting the nomination. Not Clinton hiding her communications on a personal server to avoid the open records regulations. Not the Obama administration spying on the opposing party’s candidate. Not the press failing to give a crap about that spying. Not Trump getting elected. Hell, not Trump getting a pass on “grab them by the pussy” – by the Republicans no less! Not an attorney general meeting with the spouse of the target of an investigation a week before her interview and then having the interview magically be a non-interview that happened after the exoneration note was written, even though they produced plenty of evidence to indict on multiple felonies….
There’s literally not one bit of this you could have convinced any random US citizen could even possibly happen should you time-travel back 30 years.
40 years ago every single aspect of this would have seemed as outlandish as the movie Idiocracy. Even now the parallels are too close.
Idiocracy is realistic by comparison.
Heck, I grew up in a time where “show me your papers” was a generic way of conveying that a society (Soviets, Nazis) was corrupt and evil. And now we tolerate having our genitals groped before boarding an airplane.

Oh, you.
So, what annoys the hell out of me about all this is that indicting foreign intelligence agents is a little bit like indicting God. I mean, you’re never going to get him to appear in court, and even if you do, what are you going to do if you win a conviction? It seems largely symbolic. Granted, I haven’t followed this as closely as I could, because I quite frankly have other things to do and am not exactly confident in the news sources that seem to be doing the most reporting on this, but what exactly has been proven thus far? Have they even been able to prove that the Russian government was actively, directly involved in conducting some kind of psyops campaign? Last I checked the deal was that there were Russians basically trolling people on Facebook, the RT might not be an entirely unbiased news source when it comes to Russia (WHA!?!?), and Russian hackers got a hold of DNC stuff, probably including Clinton’s wildly insecure email server. And based on my most recent info, the connection between all three was that since they’re Russian they must all know each other.
Where’s the “like” button?
That’s the allegation.

Pretty much always hungry for meat. Sad state of affairs but at least I’m honest about it.
Are there more “herbivores” in Japan than other countries? That phenomenon seems pretty rare here, where most guys seem to talk about nothing but sex. I wonder if you could track it by regional porn site clicks or something.
Definitely more. They seem to look at finding a girlfriend and having a sexual relationship as way too much of a bother.
Sadly, I think there’s some truth to that. A large percentage of young women today were brought up with the idea that a man has all kinds of duties to his woman, but it’s sexist and oppressive for the man to expect anything whatsoever in return, even fidelity.
Has anyone told them you can have fun with women without the getting locked down part?
As long as you don’t knock her up.
That’s true… But these days, there’s the added risk of the woman crying rape. Even if you’re cleared in a court of law, there’s a lot of damage that can still occur just from being accused of rape.

What is on America’s finest minds? The monstrosity which is trump’s America, of course.
The removal of people of Japanese descent from their homes and their incarceration in camps were executed with the same sort of political calculus of fear and bigotry that Mr. Trump is using to redefine American immigration policy. Laura Bush wrote that she was reminded of the World War II-era internment of Japanese-Americans by the images today of migrant children being sent to mass detention facilities as a result of the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy on the southern border.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the Supreme Court pointed out “stark parallels” between the court’s ruling last month to uphold Mr. Trump’s ban on travel from several mainly Muslim countries and the court’s 1944 Korematsu ruling, which upheld the internment of Japanese-Americans. Both effectively sanctioned “a discriminatory policy motivated by animosity toward a disfavored group, all in the name of a superficial claim of national security,” Justice Sotomayor wrote.
————–
With his mendacity and increasingly virulent attacks on immigrants, Muslims, women, the press, the judiciary, the intelligence services, the F.B.I. — any group or institution that he finds threatening or useful as a scapegoat — Mr. Trump is attempting the Orwellian trick of redefining American reality on his own terms. This assault on truth has the gravest consequences for our democracy. When lying is normalized, the sort of cynicism found in autocracies like Vladimir Putin’s Russia takes hold — people begin to assume that all politicians lie, that all knowledge is relative, that there is no point in voting or protest. Without truth, informed public discourse is hobbled and politicians cannot be held accountable.
The wholesale incarceration of American citizens by the FDR administration is just like the current hamfisted attempt to enforce immigration laws, because Trump is a monster and no True American Patriot doesn’t despise him.
“people begin to assume that all politicians lie”
Begin?
“that all knowledge is relative”
This ticks me off, because it is the left that has led the way in this arena. Moral and intellectual relativism is their baby.
They never own any shit they do.
To be sure, conservatives are just as bad.
I’m surprised they haven’t said Castro, Mao, Lenin, Marx, Stalin etc. are in fact libertarians yet.
I love how this separation of child and parent is new news to everybody. Like Trump thought the idea up himself of whole cloth. This shit has been going on for years but only now people want to dig into the details to know.
I could be wrong but I think I read that some children separated were not necessarily from their families but merely adults they were accompanied with. Some just happened to be with adults and weren’t even connected to whoever was with them. Somehow that got conflated with being separated from families.
But like I said, I don’t know if this is true; wouldn’t surprise me if it was.
My point is that this has probably been going on for decades but only now with Trump it has become something people want to know about.
Oh I know that. Racism and misogyny started with him! Nazism is really Trumpism!
Just last night someone asked if I accepted misogyny because I had the temerity to question his blanket assertion Trump raped women. The thing is, it baffles my mind how anyone could have the balls to say that to someone THEY KNOW. You want to punch them right in their smug face.

I posted this WSJ article last week –
Of the 103 infants and toddlers in government care, the administration said it had identified just 57 who were eligible for reunions. Those children were returned to their relatives by early Thursday morning, the administration said.
Officials said 46 other children weren’t immediately reunited because they were deemed ineligible. For 22 of them, the adults seeking to rejoin them posed safety concerns, including charges or convictions for child cruelty and domestic violence, according to officials. Seven of the cases involved adults found not to be a parent.

That’s just those under 5 years old.
Next phase is 5-17 year olds. Imagine how many are going to be non-parents in that case.
The Florida Man going to jail for failing to unlock his phone is very revealing.
It strips bare the farce that is the search warrant. Since he has already copped to the charges they are investigating, the only possible purpose for searching the phone is to find evidence of other crimes. Now, they are allowed to use such evidence that is discovered in the process of reasonably executing legal searches. But since they don’t have a need for the search in the first place, it is quite apparent that they are *only* interested in the evidence that isn’t listed on the search warrant. And by “they”, I mean all of the state representatives, including the judge. The judge is supposed to be the impartial arbiter who is balancing the rights of the accused and the power of the state. But this judge has come down firmly on the side of “we have evidence that you might be a criminal, so we are going to use every tool available to get you on every charge that we can find”.
Any civil libertarian should be pretty upset about this one – even lacking a sympathetic “victim”.
I’m glad you brought this up; I sincerely hope that this gets appealed up to the Supremes. It’s about time this issue gets settled once and for all. While they may have a legitimate warrant to seize the phone, IMO there is *no* requirement that the owner of the phone be compelled to unlock it.
Yeah, that seems like a straightforward 5th amendment issue right there.
“I have a warrant that says you have to lead me to where you buried the body and give me the gun you used.”
Yeah… not so much. But somehow “give me the unlock code to your phone” is OK?
The silly thing is that if they really want it, the service is commercially available. So it seems like they are just doing this to shove the guy in jail for an additional 6 months. I wonder how much “lenience” his plea-copping is going to get him?
Thanks! ^this is scary
Ok, in true internet comment section tradition, I posted before reading the whole article. Go back and read the whole thing. It is much, much worse than the summary makes it sound.
He was pulled over for “failure to yield when leaving a driveway”. Really.
They then asked to search the car. Which he denied. So they brought in a canine unit which dutifully alerted…. so all above board, right?
Except they called for the canine unit before they pulled him over.
Let that sink in.
Before they made the stop. Before they “smelled an odor of marijuana” that lead them to ask for a search of the vehicle… before any reasonable suspicion at all, they called for the canine unit.
And his lawyer can’t get this stuff tossed? Where are we on the “pretext stop”? How hard is it to find a judge that will toss an illegal stop? Is that like a unicorn? Where’s the dashcam of this supposed failure to yield? Why did they have a hardon for this guy, really? It sure wasn’t for pulling out of his driveway.

“The trans-Atlantic relationship is not going to survive eight years of Trump,” said Marcel Dirsus, a center-right-leaning political scientist at the University of Kiel. He’s not sure it can survive four. “What comes next is anyone’s guess,” he said.
That phrase “trans-Atlantic relationship” might sound like a diplomatic banality. But a world without it would be an extremely different place. America has long wanted Europeans to spend more on their own defense, but should every nation in Europe feel the need to significantly build up its military — and perhaps to nuclearize — the continent would likely become far less stable. There’s no reason to take for granted that most countries in Europe would remain open, pro-Western democracies.
————-
When I met with Cem Özdemir, a member of the German Bundestag from the center-left Green Party, he spoke with awe of the Statue of Liberty and all it represents. “That was the dream of everybody in the world, that one day we would all live in democracies,” he said. “One day, we would all live in a world that is fair and just. If the guy in the center of this world is evil, evil has won.”
————–
“It reminds me of a James Bond movie,” he said. “You have a guy” — Putin — “who has a clear plan. Step 1, Step 2. It’s Brexit, it’s President Trump, it’s having Europe stumbling, it’s having authoritarian regimes getting stronger on a daily basis, it’s an escalation in Syria. He gets everything he wants.” But while the world seems to be ruled by Bond villains, he said, there is “no James Bond.”
And all this time I thought Harry Potter was the one who would save us.

Go read how Europeans treat and talk to each other (and how they really feel about migrants) and then get back to me.
Centre-left green party. These people really need to drop the ‘centre’ act. They’re Marxists.
I thought I recognized that name. Goldberg is the feminist attack dog at the NYT and was excoriated recently for writing outright falsehoods (she was quite sorry for that after she got caught). She shouldn’t have a job at a reputable outlet (oh that’s right, she doesn’t).

Wait, Brexit? Why the fuck does anyone care about Brexit, much less Putin?
I remember when all of my FriendBook amigos were posting crying selfies because of Brexit, none of whom are English, travel there, or have the slightest connection to the issue.
Because it’s a repudiation of their fantasy of a Europe full of peace, harmony, and unicorn farts.
Yes, Putin is a diabolical mastermind.
Now, are you going to spend more on defense?
“but should every nation in Europe feel the need to significantly build up its military — and perhaps to nuclearize — the continent would likely become far less stable.”

More Rubble, less Trouble
So what she’s saying is that Europe is a bunch of children that can’t control themselves with an arsenal.
What annoys me about this whole kerfuffle is that Trump isn’t even saying that we should completely turn our back on Europe and make them fend for themselves. It’s not like he said that America should do nothing if some European country gets invaded. He just wants them to pay their own national defense costs. You can have a strong alliance without this supranational bureaucracy that basically functions as a wealth transfer from Americans to Europeans.
It’s spin, pure and simple.
Granted, Trump does everything he can to help them make asses of themselves by encouraging it, but it’s still spin.
IT’S NOT FAIR MOM!
They don’t have to build their militaries up. Just don’t expect us to find their defense. I’m sure that was a sweet deal for them.
More:
It’s mind-boggling that one freakish American election, resulting in a presidency that a majority of Americans never wanted, could do so much damage not just to the United States but also to the global order that the United States created in the wake of World War II. But Germans know as well as anyone the havoc a single demagogue can wreak when the forces of decency are exhausted and unsure of themselves, and they can’t help seeing Trump through the lens of their own hideous history.
“When I talked to my American friends in 2016, I always reminded them of what happened in Europe,” Scharioth said. “Nobody thought in the early 1920s that Italy would become a dictatorship. Nobody thought that Germany, supposed a quite cultured nation, would get rid of democracy in a very short time. Maybe when you have this European experience, you might be more pessimistic than others.”
Yes, America will become a dictatorship. It’s an inevitable reversion to our monarchic tradition.
Not all of us yearn for a stern disciplinarian daddy to run our lives, Michelle. Can’t you just find a “therapist” who will enable you to live out your spanking fantasies?
It can’t be said enough:
These people don’t believe for a second the bullshit they’re peddling. If they really believed Trump were a tyrannical dictator in the vein of Hitler, they wouldn’t dare criticize him like this for fear of being sent to a death camp. In fact, they’re just sniveling, power-hungry sycophants that they’d be licking Trump’s boots to try and get closer to the power of the State.
They do believe it. They’re just stupid and surrounded by self-reinforcing stupid opinions.
Well, yeah, if Trumphitler keeps appointing supremes who want to follow the Constitution.
But then we dodged that bullet by not electing the candidate who had already proven she was above the law, wanted to ban movies and books critical of her, would have weaponized the entire Executive branch as a sword of vengeance against her enemies, and would have been wildly cheered on and praised endlessly by the press while doing so.
So, we got that going for us.
Parody that isn’t really parody.

“Elizabeth Magie: The Inventor Of Monopoly Who Tried To Teach Us Progressive Economic Ideas
As the inventor of Monopoly herself once said, her new board game was “a practical demonstration of the present system of land-grabbing with all its usual outcomes and consequences.” What’s more, it was partly a protest of the big-name American monopolists who, at that time, held a great deal of the country’s wealth in their own personal grips (steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie and oil baron John D. Rockefeller among them).”

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5955611/Rock-star-Lou-Reed-killed-hepatitis-C-contracted-dirty-needle-injected-heroin.html
Lou Reed died?
Reed said in an interview that he contracted Hep C the 1st time he shot up. Which was like his 1st day away at college (1961?) .
I didn’t even know hep C was around then.
“The existence of hepatitis C – originally identifiable only as a type of non-A non-B hepatitis – was suggested in the 1970s and proven in 1989.”

Wait so your telling me Lou Reed is dead??? Mind blown
Syracuse, I believe. Said he moved in with some old black guy. They shot drugs and had sex for a year. Then he moved back to New York.

That’s going to hurt Muskie/Tesla more than anything else he’s done. All the virtue signaling electric car buyers are going to re-evaluate now.
Oh lordy, this will be a shitstorm.
I’ve heard Lefties speak so favorably of his products, and I’m predicting that this will radically change very quickly.
July 2018: “Musk is innovative, forward-thinking, socially responsible, and a true thought leader! He is one of the greatest minds of our generation, and naturally, the government should support his endeavors for a carbon-free future.”
August 2018: “Musk is a scumbag profiteer who needs to start paying his fair share in taxes!!”
You don’t say.
It’s almost like he needs thier power and influence to prop up his business ventures. Funny that.
One of his businesses is aerospace, where he directly competes with the ULA cartel. I wonder how much he spends on politics in comparison to Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, et. al.
Then there is the solar / electric business, which entirely lives on government subsidies.
And auto. Where would Tesla compare with GM, Ford and Chrysler for political contributions. Oh, gotta add in the UAW.
I doubt he can spend enough to do more than keep some semblance of balance. The ULA alone gets a billion dollars a year just to exist – a “readiness contract” for national security launches for which the government then pays more than 4x the price that SpaceX charges.
Contributions to campaigns and PACs are the price of getting your lobbyist an audience with the pol. Jobs in the district are the only sure-fired vote winner.
“That said, I do not actually see the checks (changed that policy today). A nominal annual amount goes out automatically to both parties to maintain dialogue. I have given vastly more to humanitarian causes.”

Learning to make a so-called ghost gun — an untraceable, unregistered firearm without a serial number — could soon become much easier.
The United States last month agreed to allow a Texas man to distribute online instruction manuals for a pistol that could be made by anyone with access to a 3-D printer. The man, Cody Wilson, had sued the government in 2015 after the State Department forced him to take down the instructions because they violated export laws.
Mr. Wilson, who is well known in anarchist and gun-rights communities, complained that his right to free speech was being stifled and that he was sharing computer code, not actual guns.
———
The willingness to resolve the case — after the government had won some lower court judgments — has raised alarms among gun-control advocates, who said it would make it easier for felons and others to get firearms. Some critics said it suggested close ties between the Trump administration and gun-ownership advocates, this week filing requests for documents that might explain why the government agreed to settle.
The administration “capitulated in a case it had won at every step of the way,” said J. Adam Skaggs, the chief counsel for the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “This isn’t a case where the underlying facts of the law changed. The only thing that changed was the administration.”
———-
Ghost guns, by their nature, are difficult to track.
Guns manufactured for sale feature a serial number on the receiver, which houses the firing mechanism. But unfinished frames known as “80 percent” receivers can be easily purchased, completed with machinery like the Ghost Gunner and then combined with the remaining parts of the firearm, which are readily available online and at gun shows.
NYT fearmongering goes to 11. Guns will be everywhere, roaming the streets in their magic invisibility cloaks, jumping out of the shadows to kill innocent little baby children and tender, caring mommies.
Only a monster like Trump would want that.
It’s almost like he needs thier power and influence to prop up his business ventures. Funny that.
Supposed to be posted under Musk article
Wouldn’t be easier for a criminal to buy a stolen gun or just remove the serial number. It became easier to remove the serial numbers on the new polymer frame pistols and they don’t leave behind traces of the stamping like metal ones.
Get ready to hear about scary “ghost guns” for the next few news cycles.

“Americans Conned Into Marrying Immigrants For Green Cards
VAWA is a wide-ranging law originally designed to protect women, but its scope and consequences were expanded greatly when it was reauthorized in 2013. It is up for reauthorization again this year.
Haney’s family thinks Tabitha used a provision of VAWA that allows abused immigrants to petition for legal status on their own, without their spouse. The original intention of the provision was to help abused immigrants, who may be afraid to report abuse if they rely on their spouse for their immigration status. This provision, however, appears to have led to a growing number of “marriage fraud” claims, wherein an immigrant falsely accuses their spouse of abuse in order to gain their citizenship and start a life of their own. Conveniently, VAWA keeps the government from investigating marriage-fraud claims.
“They’re now using VAWA as a means by which to escape the two-year requirement to remain in the marital relationship, without drawing any suspicion to themselves,” John Sampson, a retired Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, told NBC.
He also said he suspected a lot of the VAWA claims he saw during his time with ICE were actually fraudulent. He says some 1,500 Americans have contacted him believing they’re victims of this trend.”

“He said he was ‘going to burn down the building with all the f—— Jews,’ Miami Beach cops say
A resident at a Miami Beach condo was angry after learning he was about to be evicted so he planned to burn down the building and had one group, in particular, targeted, police say.
Along with gasoline and some of the materials he planned to use to fan the flames, detectives found artifacts with swastikas and books of Nazi ideology inside his apartment.
Miami Beach police said their quick action responding to a tip stopped a condo complex on Collins Avenue from going up in flames Thursday afternoon.”

The HL Mencken of our time.
How is that sexist, again? I guess it discriminates against men, who don’t get shown on TV, because people prefer to look at women. However, on behalf of all men, I’ll just say STOP “HELPING” US.
Said it before, say it again: don’t know a single soccer fan who likes that shit. Refs need to adjust how they manage the game to reel it in.
Furthermore, those trashing it as not a “real sport” might appreciate it more without that BS.
Not likely. The flopping is lame, but I still can’t handle an hour of dudes piddling around in the midfield with nothing happening.
Soccer is like NASCAR to me. I’ll happily watch highlights when something cool happens, but no way in hell I’m gonna sit down for 90 minutes hoping to catch the rare highlight in real time.
And that’s fine. Human preference is diverse, as it should be. I feel the same way about American football; 5 seconds of action, 2 minutes of huddle and standing around, penalty, 2 more minutes, 5 seconds of action, commercial, timeout… etc.
“Football combines the two worst aspects of American life: violence and committee meetings.”
George Will
They have no problem with flopping in basketball.
I don’t think it’s solvable without some fundamental rule changes. When every shoulder tap is a foul it’s just too easy to con the refs.
Works for me. The VAR is about as major a change as you can get; changing things up to penalize the fake injuries, IMO, wouldn’t be that big a deal. Simulation is already a yellow card, but the refs never call it.
I think they’re afraid of getting it wrong. The rules around fouls are so subjective they might as well flip a coin anyway.
Unlike federal law, fouls require intent (at least by the letter of the laws of the game). So, at times it can seem subjective since the referee has to judge intent. And that’s not even considering the advantage rule, which can make you look really bad if you get it wrong.
One interesting thing I noticed in this final (which has probably been going on for a while) is the systematic putting players in an offside position on a free kick and then hitting it to the other side of the field, drawing defenders backward. If you watch the replay on the FK that got Croatia its first goal, you can see at least three players on the near side of the box deliberately in an offside position, then the kick goes to the far side and the defenders have to back up, bringing those guys back onside. It’s an interesting tactic to defeat the defenders’ all lining up at the top of the box.
The difference in this game were those two terrible calls.
cyto, above:
Jesus- now I suspect he was fucking one of those cops’ wife. They probably wanted to get in the phone to read their texts.
No question that was a set up.
