We should drop out of NATO. We have no reason to be sucked into Europes problems. We get nothing out of it except some forward bases which we probably don’t need given our ability to deploy men and equipment fairly quickly if necessary. If dire circumstances later require some alliance be formed, we can make that decision when that time comes. Obligating ourselves to some open ended agreement is not wise.
My only concern over Europe is not knowing just how ambitious the commies are to expand their borders. There’s no doubt that our presence there has been a deterrent, but if the US were to completely withdraw and someone started shit, we’d be back there anyway. I also understand that that’s from the perspective of a sunk-cost argument.

I have to fight the urge to dress down at work. I wean every day with a button down. When I began my career it was white dress shirts, chinos, and a tie.
My staff and the rest of the office dresses similar or down from where I dress. There are a few that dress more business casual, but they look uptight to everyone these days.
The change in dress is the most significant change in my office since the baby boomers started retiring.

A girl at my work got a DUI a few weeks ago, and it turns out that she had two rationalizations for it:
1) Not her fault because she “got pulled over for a taillight out, not for drunk driving”.
2) Not her fault because she “drank on an empty stomach and got more drunk than usual”.
It just amazes me the lengths people will go to avoid unpleasant thoughts like personal responsibility.
Is she hot?
Did she cry or offer to blow the cop? Because from my experience, a broad has to be pretty damn drunk to get a DUI period.
Drinking while driving is a behavior that increases risk, but does not in itself cause actual harm. Some drunks should be taken off the road. I have no problem saying I was one of those drunks. But then besides that, I have observed many other things about people as it relates to this subject:
1. Most people are hypocrites who have driven drunk themselves. Not just a beer or two, but plenty drunk at some point to where they easily could have gotten a DUI. This is especially true of baby boomers. That generation that is oh so fond of dropping the hammer on people who do things that weren’t illegal when they were growing up.
2. The entire punishment process is a joke designed to generate money for the state and private contractors who are probably related to the people running the state.
3. She may have something of a point – things that would not really stand as a legit reason to pull you over at one time of the day become completely legit at certain times of the night if it results in a DUI. From there, we can talk some about how a cops nose becomes a probable cause generator and how often that’s bullshit.
The libertarian in me still says DUI should probably be a crime. When I got mine, I was the exact person who needed to be taken off the road (I guess I accept personal responsibility). The asshole in me says fuck you to the sanctimonious individuals who act like its a mortal sin. And the even bigger asshole in me knows way too many people who adopt that position who are guilty of worse or the act itself to take it seriously.
So, as a drunk with a DUI, that’s my rant. Fuck you (not directed at any particular individual, but to everyone – with love).
