Hey, whaddaya know, I made it home to sleep in my own bed on a school night for a change. Too bad it never seems to last. Oh well, it could be worse. I could be a player on the Nashville Predators. They probably didn’t sleep too well last night after getting throttled by the J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets last night at home in the determining game of their Campbell Conference Semifinal. The Jets will take on Army/Vegas in a conference final that will be so fast we may need the old Fox puck tracker system to watch. My prediction: Vegas in 7. Meanwhile, in the Wales Conference, the finals kick off tonight in what will likely be a much slower, much more physical affair. The Capitals finally took down their nemesis, so I’m curious to see how they do in a round of the playoffs that probably feels unfamiliar to most of the guys on the team. My pick: Tampa Bay in 6.
At the Players Championship this week, there’s a slew of players at -6, a bunch within 3 of the lead and one guy (hello, Phil) played in what appeared to be a dress shirt gone wrong. Seriously, that was awful.
Across the pond, we’re down to the nub in the EPL, as all but a couple things are decided. Swansea need a miracle to stay up and Chelsea need a lot of help to get into the UCL #4 slot. Sunday will be boring for results, but I bet there are a lot of goals and a lot of fun, albeit meaningless, games to watch.
You want birthdays? I’ll give you birthdays. Today’s belongs to composer/songwriter Irving Berlin, weird bastard/artist Salvador Dali, hilarious/underrated comedian Phil Silvers, racist/racist Louis Farrakhan, hurler Milt Pappas, and “alt-right” “leader” Richard Spencer. Also happening on this date: The Third Crusade kicked off when 100,000 crusaders left Regensburg under HRE Frederick Barbarossa, Christopher Columbus began his last voyage, Benjamin Franklin opened the Pennsylvania Hospital, J.E.B. Stuart was mortally wounded, Walter Hagen won the British Open, Faulkner’s “Go Down, Moses” is published, Asshole Eichmann was captured, And perhaps most importantly of all, Monty Python was formed 49 years ago to the day.
Hoo-boy. For a weak set of birthdays, this date had a lot going for it historically. But enough of that. Let’s get to…the links!
Starbucks changes their business model and will transform all of their locations to “coffee” shop/heroin den/sex room/hobo lodging. It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off.
Further evidence that the world is turning upside down, Bahrain issues a declaration that says Israel has a right to defend herself. Let’s see how CNN decides to cover that!
Julian Assange’s “exile” is starting to look more like a prison sentence every day. Let’s hope Wikileaks are able to continue exposing government corruption. God knows the mainstream media dips hits aren’t doing anything positive on that front.
A mass shooting has left seven dead…in Australia. You know, the place where they don’t have any more violence since they all but banned firearms. So much for that retarded theory.
Wait a damn minute. You mean to tell me that two Chicago Police officers that have been charged with stealing cash and drugs have a long history of misconduct complaints that the department did jack shit with? Why, I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell ya, to hear that they didn’t already get these guys off the force. (::SMDH at why anyone would live in that Corruptocracy::)
Well, this is going to be an interesting case. Feel free to discuss in the comments (for the few of you that will click on the link).
In other Texas school news, Katy ISD has decided to offer financial support to defend its superintendent against accusations of bullying…from when he was in middle and high school. It also will defend him against claims that he permits cyberbullying of current students. You know, because a public school should be telling kids that aren’t allowed to exert their 1A rights rather than telling kids if they don’t want to get “bullied” on the internet, they merely need to turn their devices off.
If you think I’m happy I was able to do the links at least once this week, you got that right.
Have a great Friday and a better weekend, friends.
Hello?
Where is everybody?
Reading the links and jamming to Skynard.

Play me a sooong, Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew…
^^Best Skynyrd song.^^
I was going to argue, but then I realized I can’t.
It’s a fine song.
But I have to go with Simple Man as their best work.
Of course, ^this.
Fair choice, those are the top 2.
Agreed.
I’ll add Tuesday’s Gone to round out the top three.
Tuesday’s Gone drags a bit for me, I am find with it as a solid #3.
Ahem!
Cry for the bad man and On the hunt are obviously number 1-2.
Tuesday’s Gone is actually #1, but I’ll settle for a three-way tie for first.
Excellent choice. Hard to top that one.

The solution is to tweak the definition of ‘mass shooting’ again.
On the Open Carry forum there was an Australian who would always post gun crimes there.
For not having any guns, there sure were a lot of them.

Everyone likes to talk about the deadly wildlife in Australia. Seems all that wildlife is on two legs.
I knew I was safer in the deserts of Western Australia than with all of the muppets on the east coast.
You cannot let a few isolated undermine incidence a good policy
I have no idea how undermine incidence got reversed… Weird.
And it is supposed to be incident. Jesus and I’m not even drunk. Must be working to hard or something.
Hey, Rufus! I found someone working!
But clearly it isn’t working
At least you are screwing up your 4th language or something. The rest of us do it with #1.

Mass shooting: Any killing involving guns that occurs in America or any of its territories (including suicides) (especially suicides).
Wait, it says RURAL Australia, i.e., the places no one care about. Those yokels can kill each other as much as they like. The only time we care is when white kids in rich liberal school districts are targets.
“We don’t want to become a public bathroom, but…”
But we’re going to, because we’re completely gutless.
“We don’t want to become a public bathroom, but we’re going to make the right decision 100% of the time and give people the key, because we don’t want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are less than.”
Why is there even a key?
/never been in Starbucks’ bathroom
Why is there even a key?
This is what I think every time I’m reading one of these stories. I walk into a place (gas station, Starbucks type) use the bathroom and leave. What’s with this needing a key crap? If you live in a area that needs to keep the bathroom under lock and key, I’m sorry for you.
^This. Have not needed a key to use a bathroom in a Starbucks or gas station in quite a while, but I don’t live in a shit-hole like San Francisco. With all the progs that have been coming into NoVa in the last 10 years, that’s probably going to change for the worse.
It’s mostly in urban areas, to prevent the stores from becoming nothing more than convenient public restrooms used mostly by non-customers.
Partially to disincentivize addicts from shooting up in the john.
Why is there even a key?
I don’t know. But it’s just something else for people to walk away with.
Welcome back, Sloopy.
Thanks! It’s good to be home. Until Monday when I leave again.
“mass shooting has left seven dead…in Australia. You know, the place where they don’t have any more violence since they all but banned firearms. So much for that retarded theory”
It was in rural Australia, so obviously it was some Jesus loving gun fucker.
Stupid for firing her for showing pictures of her wife, but why the hell is she teaching modern art to fourth graders?
If the parents complaint was “why is your teacher not teaching the essentials” then I would get behind the parents any day. The firing because she showed a picture of her family is retarded.
This seems dumb, but I guess they’d have to review the art she was showing them? If it was just family pictures it’s asinine and those parents’ taxes are going to be paying for her back pay and settlement.
Meh. Just searched and it’s not his paintings that were the problem.
Yeah, I was expecting some Maplethorpe type stuff, that seems pretty non controversial.
“If the parents complaint was “why is your teacher not teaching the essentials” ”
Occupational Incompetence is protected by the union. Gotta get rid of them on something else.
Fiancee, not wife, but the point stands. Either teachers are free to have family photos or they aren’t. Government shouldn’t discriminate against any class of people. The parents not up for that, then they can homeschool or whatever.
The “recruitment” thing is a canard. SSM is the legal reality of our society.
This was my take as well, I really don’t see what the parent’s objection is.
Their (wrongheaded in my opinion) objection is that they only want their child exposed to the types of relationships they approve of while sitting in a public school.
Their mistake: allowing the state to define what marriage is in the first fucking place.
*sings “thiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssss” in an opera voice while pointing emphatically at sloopy’s post*
Uhh WRONG.! They had TWO mistakes, 1. inserting government into a religious ceremony AND forcing their children to go to government indoctrination camps.
That’s because you’re not a socon. They believe they have a right to not be offended at taxpayer expense, and for government to treat certain employees differently to cater to their beliefs.
They really, really do believe that gay people are trying to recruit their kids. Or at least act as if they do; I can’t presume to read their minds.
Apparently gay kids are big sources of shame for fundagelical families. They are made to feel that they did something wrong. Of course they hold that homosexuality is a choice.
Of course they hold that homosexuality is a choice.
They hold that all forms of sexuality is a choice, which is why they tend to frown upon extramarital hetero sex, too.
I think it’s changing Tonio. Still exists but at least getting better.
As the older generations die out, the younger ones are still Socon but don’t have this obsession with sexuality. This is my anecdotal experience watching my wife’s extended family, socon to a core, and their community. Her aunt is a lesbian and the grandfather was a real asshole about it. Once he died, no one else cared.
It’s interesting, walking in socon circles, to see the change. It usually isn’t any much more an acceptance of homosexuality, but an acceptance that government isn’t a viable way for them to spread their morals. Some folks (like me) have moved in a libertarian direction, especially with emphasis on the scripture theme that the morality of non-believers is none of our concern. Some have become cynical conservatives who totally eat up the trumpian alt-right view of a “cucked” establishment.
but why the hell is she teaching modern art to fourth graders?
She’s an art teacher? I mean my daughter’s in 5th grade and they’ve studied Van Gogh, Picasso, Dali, and Jeff Koons.
“So are you saying that you have to be crazy to be called an artist?”
I was surprised when my 4 yr.old granddaughter came home from Montessori school and said they had learned about Jackson Pollock.
Look children, you too are capable of making paintings that are indistinguishable from the famous works!
Well, this is going to be an interesting case.
Yes, if by ‘interesting’ you mean ‘tiresome’.
An article in the Boston paper about how horrible those homophobic hicks in Texas are? Well blow me down.
I want to believe this political messaging is parody. Too bad I know it is not.
The tiki torches are a nice touch.

I’m not at fault. It’s the fault of the laws of physics.
What is it with fat chicks, stupid politics and love of Harry Potter?
publishing conversations with women in my life who have experienced body shame, injustice and inequity around their size, gender, race and presence.
/Typed on my Ipad from Golden Corral.
But seriously…. you’re living in the safest, most tolerant society in history. Sorry you couldn’t do the Hogwarts ride…you don’t FIT. It’s not personal.
But she obviously expects the rides to be upscaled to fit her, never mind the vastly increased costs to serve a small part of the population.
Some rides have special fat seats, but even those have limits. I saw a guy once get on a roller coaster and then the workers brought out a seat belt extender and it still wasn’t large enough and he had to get off the ride. I felt bad for him because this all In front of hundreds of people watching. Hopefully he rethought some of his life choices.
It doesn’t seem to work on airline passengers…
True
I wouldn’t exactly call her a small part of the population.
They never said you were fat-spreading. They said you were fat & spreading, tubbo.

**1500 word rant about fatties who ride around the grocery store in scooters – because they’re fat**
The scooter blobs motivate me to eat less.
I don’t want to be like that.
They also help keep me out of the cookie-aisle.
I presume because it’s totally blocked by Hutts on scooters.
Yes – and sometimes they ask for help reaching the oreos on a high shelf.
Hey lardass, if you don’t fit, you don’t fit.
If you had gotten on that ride and you had been injured, I’m sure you would have absolved the park of all liability. Right?
^This.
And also the very real possibility of injuring others by exceeding the weight limits.
As a fat bastard who can only ride some of my favorite coasters anymore, bingo. I’m the one who’s fat – why exactly is the park obligated to adapt to me? Does having average-sized people in huge tubby-compliant coaster seats sound particularly safe? I don’t know about this place, but at Kings Dominion here in VA the coasters all have a seat installed at the entrance to the ride. You can get in it to check if you fit. If not, tough shit, Shamoo, go ride something else.
Mebbe she will wave her Magic Twig and become Hermione?
I have been on that ride, and it is rather snug. Also amazing use of effects to give the illusion of motion.
She’s nuttier than a squirrel turd. I suspect that is the root of her problems, including being fat.
“Bodies…” Scrolls down furiously.
A dead giveaway.
Because in Book 4 Hermione goes from awkward tween with bushy rats nest hair, thick glasses, and buck teeth to bonna fide hottie with the wave of a wand.
I have been told personally by OMWC that she was hottest in her pre-Hogwarts years.
” because I didn’t fit.”
Can she cast a spell to make the ride bigger?
Is that easier than making her ass smaller?
Don’t get me started on the inconsistency of magic in that universe.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.
“Well, this is going to be an interesting case. Feel free to discuss in the comments (for the few of you that will click on the link”
That school might as well just start working the money over to her.
If everything that the article said is true, I think she has a case. I don’t see what’s so bad about her just telling students that that’s her future wife. What are people afraid of, that their kids will somehow be turned gay?
Yeah, I honestly don’t get what the problem is, unless the article is leaving something important out.
The only thing I see that contradicts the headline is this:
So she wasn’t “barred” from the classroom. She was put on paid leave and offered a transfer. Which very well may be in her contract.
So she was accused of showing inappropriate images — I wonder if she was accused by one of the parents that think their kids will be turned gay by osmosis. If so, I wonder if such accusations were fabricated.
I’m so skeptical of people being accused of anything these days. If there isn’t proof or a conviction, I tend to default to “she’s innocent but it sounds like someone doesn’t like her for whatever reason.”
It’s also her saying she was accused. The school board are mostly staying quiet. And it did say she was to be transferred, not barred from the classroom, as the headline would like you to believe.
If she was removed from her job because she is gay, that’s fucked up. If she was transferred so the school board could avoid a confrontation with a group of parents, that’s also fucked up but at least it’s a compromise.
There’s really only one question here that matters from a libertarian standpoint: did either party violate their contract? It sounds like the school may have if they terminated her without cause. It also sounds like she may have if she sought to share personal information the school didn’t want any of its teachers to share or if she chose to teach outside the designated and agreed upon curriculum. And the answers to those questions belong in the courtroom.
If the school is run by a bunch of bigots but they terminated her within the guidelines of their policy and in compliance with the terms of her contract, then I will have to say they’re in the right. But there is too much missing from this story to take a side from a legal standpoint. But personally, it sounds like at least a few parents need to step into the 21st century.
So these images of her partner… are they inappropriate enough to be worth searching for?
I think you can go up to the threat about the larger than life lady not getting on a ride above in most of these cases…
Yes, they really do believe that. “Recruitment.” See my longer post upthread.
Ugh, that’s so dumb. When I look at the fundamental mode of thinking, I can’t help but feel like socons and progressives deserve each other.
BUT THE FROGS!
So why in Hell did you ever bring it up? Either the guy is lying or he wanted something out of this, and now is in full retreat as the District gives him, and others, the middle finger.
What a douchebag. I wonder if he sees that he has been a worse bully than that guy ever could have been as a child.
What’s happening is that the real bully here (Gay) is being stood up to by his victim (Hindt) and he is trying to save face.
Fuck that dude. I hope he has his entire childhood brought up like he’s trying to do to his victim. I mean, who doesn’t have things from the past that could haunt them if brought up in the wrong context or if they’re used as a basis for behavior an adult should engage in?
I know I sure as fuck do.
People just don’t seem to understand that once you bring “The Authoritahs” into a situation it is immediately out of their control. Or, that’s exactly the intention. e.g. “SWATting”.

The Jets are a fearsome team. They are kind of following the old Western conference model of big monsters, but with a twist that they are fast and skilled, too. Teams like the Kings and Canucks used to just beat the shit out of you, but the Jets can outhit and outskate you. Excellent conference finals with some new faces (finally!).

How come when Brits used the slippery slope argument to suggest that “common sense gun control”would eventually lead to a police state where you could be arrested for carrying a potato peeler they were crazy, but tearing down a families half million pound house is necessary to prevent a horrible outbreak of liberty?

“Advertised as a “rejuvenating and a safe space where women can reinvent themselves and their desires,” an island off the coast of Raasepori in southern Finland is being touted as an all-inclusive, testosterone-free luxury resort. According to the Supershe website, the island can accommodate ten women in four newly-renovated cabins.
The idea of a man-free island is based on Roth’s assumption that women inadvertently get distracted by the presence of men. In a previous interview with the New York Post, Roth claimed that women always put lipstick on, whenever a “cute guy” emerges. The goal of the “Supershe” project is therefore to allow women to focus on themselves without letting hormones gush.”

Copycat killers.
That Katy school one is an abomination. Who wasn’t a rabid little cunt as a teen? They ran us on shifts while our High School was under construction and those bus rides were pure “Lord of the Flies” shit. Imagine a crowd of adolescents, forced to share every amenity with hated cross-town rivals and then imagine doubling it. It got so bad that the bus drivers would either park on the highway or turn around and drive back to the depot and wait for the cops. This wasn’t a criminal problem, it was Malthusian.
Does not compute.
Oh wait, I went to a high school where no one cared enough to even dislike the other schools.
Rivalry would have made it to spicy.
Must’ve made for some pretty lame cheer leading taunts.
Mostly bush party beefs. The 70s were a different time and yes, we were rednecks.
Really? That’s too bad. We hated our rivals. HATED them. And it routinely ended in vandalism, petty theft of school property or other acts gradually escalating until the night of the game…and then it would subside until the next season.
As players, we largely avoided the criminal component of it, but the elbows got a little sharper that night, I can assure you.
Yeah, when we played our biggest rival in football at their house our coach told us to keep our helmets on at all times.
We killed our rivals. Strangled them while they slept. Made off with their women and plundered their horses. We also spray painted “KCHS SUCKS” on the sidewalks outside their school!
The lesson of Lord of the flies is about how much adults actually act like children not how bad people get when there is anarchy. The whole thing takes place during WW2 when Nations are fighting because adults are being evil, not because there is no state, but because they have that power.
Two groups of kids forced to be one is this – https://youtu.be/UsBe2WqpLmk

Single women a ‘burden on the state’, says Japanese MP
Kanji Kato criticised for telling women to have multiple children as birth rate falls to lowest level since 1899
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/11/single-women-a-burden-on-the-state-says-japanese-mp
Policy idea: single women should be redistributed to incels.
If you believe the popular press, that would be a large part of Japan…
Herbivore men or grass-eater men (草食(系)男子 Sōshoku(-kei) danshi) is a term used in Japan to describe men who have no interest in getting married or finding a girlfriend. The term herbivore men was also a term that is described as young men who had lost their “manliness”. The term was coined by the author Maki Fukasawa in an article published on 13 October 2006.
What comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Soy.
I thought soy was a legume.
Whatever. All we know is that it is an epic T-killer.
Single Japanese girls becoming an epidemic? Strange days, indeed.
This is the kind of epidemic I can get behind.
If they had only included pics we might be able to find some volunteers to assist Japan in its hour of need.
The former mayor of Tokyo, Ishihara, once said that women past child bearing age should just die because they’re worthless. He still got elected again after that comment.
Maybe the state should stop trying to be daddy, then individual choice won’t be any of government’s business.

Israel, backed by the US, Saudi and Gulf States is causing Iran to burn through all that cash Teh Lightworker flew over to them at the end of his term in office. The Russians are laughing to themselves thinking “OK, Yuri… keep a straight face when the Iranians come back to buy more hardware”…
Syria might have second thoughts…since if Iran causes Israel to blow up Syrian stuff too….they cannot finish the civil war as easily or quickly.
One of the reasons that Israel gets as much US tax money as it does is because we’re pretty much paying them off not to go through with all-out war against their neighbors. If that happens, we (meaning the United States, of course) want to be the ones that start it.
I’m not sure that Trump gives as much of a shit about that as his predecessors do.
What we should do (and what we should’ve done years ago) is to tell Israel “go to town, do whatever the fuck you want. We’re not backing you up militarily, but I doubt you’ll need us to anyways.”

Schultz said the company currently has a “loose” policy of only allowing paying customers to use the bathroom, with the decision ultimately left to the store manager.
But he said the policy and the decision by the Philadelphia store manager last month were “absolutely wrong in every way.”
“It’s the company that’s responsible,” he added.
I assume he has vowed to fly in and personally clean any Starbucks bathroom after some bum shits on the wall.
If I were a store manager for Starbucks, I would be submitting my resignation right about now.
“absolutely wrong in every way.”
I think the whole this will make Starbucks a shithole idea is the wrong idea. I want to see how far Starbucks will go. Will they throw out a black man selling other coffee in there?
Lol. I should go make my own coffee at one of their tables and offer the customers coffee for 10 percent less. If anyone hassles me I’ll have a printed copy of the corporate policy.
Schultz said the company currently has a “loose” policy of only allowing paying customers to use the bathroom, with the decision ultimately left to the store manager.
The way I understood it from earlier is that it was a written policy in the employee handbook. And a company that large not having a written policy on loitering/facility use by non-paying people seems absurd to me.
Sprays the wall, floor and toilet and tracks it out like spoor to his cardboard castle. I work in a private business and you wouldn’t believe how gross people can be. I’ve cleaned the women’s and swear-to-god someone murdered a snowman in there. Did you just sit there, tearing up toilet tissue as a coping mechanism? The menstrual blood Indian paint is always a fine addition. There’s this one lady that I call “Beggin’ Strips” because she seems unable to use the facilities without leaving a stripe of fecal matter on the toilet seat. I hate my life.
I’d totally read any submission on this topic. Please make that happen.

How does he reconcile those two seemingly contradictory statements?
It only applied to white people because he’s totes not racist
I remember on my welfare post a comment
“Is there no one in Romania, or Europe generally, who looks at the American standard of living and thinks Christ almighty, what’s so different with us? Or do the mask their envy with contempt for our gun laws and (somewhat) privatized health system?”
I was reminded of this when hearing in the office a guy say to another who was talking about jobs in our field in the States and I quote
“America! All Americans are retarded. they have a completely dysfunctional society. America is absolutely horrible it is impossible to live in that country. ”
This is not an isolated sentiment. So plenty of Romanians (not like Swiss or something) look down on the States when it comes to standard of living.
I would venture that all countries have residents that disdain other nations, particularly more successful ones. Nationalism is a thing.
Ask them if they have ever been in the US… or, why do so many nice things come from there?
Well have YOU ever been to Somalia? I didn’t think so! So how do you know it’s libertarian heaven on earth?!?
One deployment I am really glad I never did.
Racist!
many nice things come from there?
I dunno, remember both John Kerry and Hillary Clinton are recent Secretaries of State, I can understand foreigners forming a bad opinion of us based on our representatives to the world.
I bet they just love the smart phones and other technological goodies them American retards come up with, though.
Palme d’Or winners – ranked!

Huh. I’ve seen two of them.
From that same page, though: The greatest Scottish indie bands – ranked!
Some good ones, there, but they fucked up their rankings. Teenage Fanclub is number 1. Just ask Sparky.
Wow I was expecting to have seen none of them but 3 are actually movies I enjoyed. Pulp Fiction, Taxi driver and The Third Man.
I’ve seen six but probably didn’t enjoie l’esprierence.
I’ve seen six as well.

How can they possibly think this is a winning strategy?
None of their positions qualify as a winning strategy. They are doubling down on the policies that has kept them losing nationally for a decade. Now ssshhhhh. Stop trying to give them a heads up.
Honest question. Who in the name of Cthulu is staffing these campaigns? Do the dems actually think that doubling down on Triggly-puff will win friends and influence people? I don’t care for party politics but if I had to choose between Mike Pence or Kamala Harris I’d know who would get my vote and I’m socially very Liberal. They’re fucked.
All they had to do for the midterms was not be crazy, and they can’t even manage that.
They have to keep it up or they themselves will be outed from the party.
It’s the only way to win in the primary.
Question: How dumb is David Price?
What is a David Price?
He’s made about $140 million over his career and is going to make another $120 million through 2022. Even if he did get carpral tunnel through playing Fortnite (he denies it), not dumb at all.
Fair enough. He’s a bit of a jerk though.
I’m just, you know, being a ball buster.
That contract for that headcase was a giant mistake. But I hate the Red sox, so I’m happy
Dumb enough to think anyone buys that he is actually injured, rather than terrified of facing the Yankee lineup.
His first start against the Yankees, he was getting hammered when he came out of the game because he claimed he had no feeling in his fingers. There was no apparent cause of this “condition”, and he missed no starts. Then, with another Yankees start coming up, he supposedly has carpal tunnel? These are the only two appearances where he was supposedly injured, mind you.

They still don’t get called out on this lie. They provide abortions, they do not provide health care.
Robocaller hit with record $120 million fine
Why does the FCC deserve $120 million? Shouldn’t that money go to the people they scammed? On a side note if you’re dumb enough to fall for this scam you deserve to lose your money.
I’ve started to answer a few of these when I have the time. Just to keep them on the phone so they’re not calling anyone else.
Have to figure out my game to keep them on the phone longer.
Government is just the things we collect together…but not for any of you, of course.
MIND SPLITTING IN TWO
1. I am a believer in liberty and as such cannot cheer for regulators punishing someone for a sales tactic that is not directly fraudulent.
2. Getting robo-calls makes me want to back trace them, padlock doors and throw a match.
What JB said above. Wasting their time is the worst thing you can do to them.
Wasting their time is Also wasting my time. It’s a suboptimal solution, I prefer Jarflax’s method.
Joke’s on them, my time is worthless.
Feh. Caller ID is almost everywhere nowadays. If I don’t recognize the number I don’t pick up the phone. If they don’t leave a message, or leave one that doesn’t interest me, I don’t call them back.
“The FCC fine is part of a multifaceted effort to crack down on robocalls, which have spurred more than 4.5 million complaints to federal regulators in recent years. The complaint against Abramovich and his companies, Marketing Strategy Leaders and Marketing Leaders, said these companies made some 96 million computer-dialed calls over a three-month period.
The calls used caller ID “spoofing” that mimicks the first six digits of the recipient’s phone number, a practice dubbed “neighbor spoofing,” the complaint added. This practice is illegal partly because federal officials maintain that victims are far more likely to pick up a call if it appears to be coming from their local neighborhood.
Abramovich’s companies not only spoofed caller ID systems to appear to be a neighbor, the recorded pitch also misled victims into believing that the call was being made by a major hospitality company, such as Trip Advisor, Expedia, Hilton or Marriott. It wasn’t until victims responded to the offer of a discounted trip by hitting a digit on their phones that they would get a live operator, who was ultimately pitching timeshare interests in Mexico that were unrelated to any of the major companies mentioned in the recorded message.”
96 million counts of fraud? He should get life in prison.
I have harsh words for them, but luckily their on strategy works against them for me. I’ve carried the same number for decades, and changed area codes several times*. No one I want to talk to would be calling from my old area code and exchange that isn’t already in my contacts.
*my phone is a cell, and still offically in that first area code. I don’t need a new one, since no one charges for long distance anymore.
I’ve been getting these the past 3-4 months on my cell phone. Usually about 3 frackin times a day.

Yes.
Also, butter, bacon cheese and ham are non-vegan ans many combinations of those go along with those vegetable products.

UC-Berkeley’s “Commission on Free Speech” finds out just why free speech is in trouble on campus
As I’m sure you could’ve guessed, it’s conservative students’ fault.
“the assertion of individual rights at the expense of social responsibility by a handful of students.”
That is an evil statement.
Was an Ayn Rand villain on the commission?
I take issue with this statement. Negative individual rights are not cherished values among a large swath of the electorate particularly on, but not confined to, the left.
They only give lip service to those values because they feel obligated to. It’s not quite fully acceptable for them to advocate for tearing them down in toto. They just look to hobble those principles by putting qualifiers on them.
I only ever hear of one side de-platforming or outright attacking speakers. The violence and rage targeted at “silencing or destroying” is all coming from one particular political persuasion…
The Berkley mayor named his cat Che. They are overrun by a bunch of commie shitweasles.
I named my cat “Festus” because he imprinted on me like a duckling, stunk to high heaven and had an eye infection that made him squinty. My little sidekick. The Berkeley Mayor has no such story, he was just being a cunt.
How do you know that? Maybe he found his when it was a stray cat in an alley killing gay cats or cats who meowed their displeasure at what he was doing. Or he found the cat murdering other cats to control their population.
For all you know he had a reason as good as yours for choosing a name.
Yeah, there’s that but to be sure, Berkeley Mayor is synonymous with cunt.
I think it was the economist Hans Sennholz who named his dogs Marx and Engels because “they were German, hairy and had no respect for other people’s property”.
I think Che is perfect for a cat. Murderous little fuckers who will bite you right after you feed them.
I miss mine.
If you feed him more, he’ll fatten up and be easier to hit.
I knew a leftish guy who named his cat, only slightly ironically, Chairman Meow.
Sanders, along with senators Cory Booker (D., N.J.), Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.), among others, introduced the Workplace Democracy Act, which would make it easier for workers to unionize and enter into contractual negotiations with employers…
Sanders’s bill seeks to reverse the course by scrapping current procedures in place governing the establishment of a union. Presently, 30 percent of an organization’s employees must sign a petition requesting the formal creation of a union. The National Labor Relations Board then administers an election of all eligible employees to ensure that there is significant support for unionization.
That’s some fine democracying, Lou.
Tired of all those employment gains, huh fuckos?
The only jobs that count are SEIU, AFSCME, and any of the teacher’s unions.
Fuck. You. If those employees want to run a business, they can start one of their own.
If I ever grow my company enough to need a large staff and they pull something like what these cocksuckers propose, I will burn the place to the ground before I let a union in house.

When I was a much younger man I was elected employee rep for about 200 workers. There was a movement afoot to unionize the shop. I was pushed into the position and didn’t really want it but circumstances being what they were, I took it on. My defining moment was jumping up on a table and pointing out that our closest competitor had unionized and were swiftly going under. Our wages and benefits were growing year by year and I promised them that we’d at the very least get standard of living hikes. We delivered and our company remained solvent, the competitor was done in six months.
HELL YEAH!
*applauds, salutes*

You can already do this as an individual. And fuck you, VA is right-to-work (I think…).

“… no one gave a damn.”

Anecdotally, prob’ly not but if she was cool nobody would have batted an eyelid. Those were different times, more accepting times THIRTY FUCKING YEARS AGO.

My kindergarten teacher was in a lifelong lesbian pairing with my 4-6th grade math teacher, in Cincinnati in 1972. Everyone knew it; no one cared. Of course they didn’t spend time pushing social justice, they just taught.
I had a gay NCO in my platoon about 1987 – you know, back the horrible intolerant Reagan years. He was rather quiet about his personal life, but everybody in the platoon knew and nobody gave a shit because he was a good NCO. When he left the outfit I gave him a good NCOER and got him promoted.

American Law Is Becoming an Ass
Speaking generally, the justificatory bases for Western law can be divided into two categories; one basis being the Judeo-Christian law as summarized by the Ten Commandments and undergirded by the realities of natural law. The other, especially in the last century or so, is arbitrary law decided by a political party’s ideology.
American law has increasingly followed the Bolshevist model as the progressive Left has sought to enshrine its political ideology into law while eliminating through persecutory and arbitrary procedures certain classes of people who are the equivalent of the bourgeoisie represented by the kulaks…
Now one can, by attributing a wrong thought or word, make a man out to be guilty, as Canadian Professor Jordan Peterson found out when he refused to use gender neutral pronouns on demand. The idea was that Peterson must employ the language utilized in transgender liturgy or be declared heretic and worthy of excommunication from academia.
For the left, thought crimes as evidenced by “wrong” speech are revelatory of wrongfully privileged class status; therefore, certain classes such as the conservatively or religiously inclined who speak about moral and observable verities must be suppressed, banned or even eliminated. Arbitrary law becomes a useful tool through revolutionaries accomplish the destruction of whole categories of enemies such as “privileged” white males like Peterson…
At the heart of the changes in the rule of law is the revolutionary desire to eradicate any opposing world view, particularly one that believes in actual concepts of guilt and innocence. As Solzhenitsyn notes, for the left “A convenient world outlook gives rise to a convenient juridical term: social prophylaxis in order an ideological world view is cleansed of opposition — the intellectual rot of Christianity being among the intellectual diseases that need cleansing… In addition, how many kinds of cursed intellectuals there were — restless students and a variety of eccentrics, truth-seekers, and holy fools… who are always a hindrance to a well-ordered, strict regime.”
Solzhenitsyn concluded that political guilt replaced actual guilt. One party rules today; and another rules tomorrow — with a different set of rules. Power alone reigns, enabling repression of the most malevolent sort to flourish…
“The proofs of guilt were relative, approximate, and the interrogator could find them, even when there was no evidence and no witness, without leaving his office, basing his conclusions only on his own intellect… Thus it was that the conclusions of advanced Soviet jurisprudence, proceeding in a spiral, returned to barbaric or medieval standards. Like medieval torturers, our interrogators, prosecutors, and judges agreed to accept the confession of the accused as the chief proof of guilt.”
The confession as proof of guilt is one reason why we now witness a constant parade of confessions and retractions by leading figures left and right. Confession establishes guilt and retraction removes it. The whole process is circular and endless self-justification and self-exoneration. One is one’s own prosecutor and defender; judge and jury, sentencer and parole officer.
The result? The law becomes an ass.
I’m gonna have to cite you for hate speech you hater. Now repent or die.
Huh. Didn’t mean to quote that much…

I finally got around to reading that Bari Weiss thing in the NYT; the one about the “intellectual dark web”. Scary, scary stuff, if you’re part of the Social Justice Free Thought for Me and None for Thee Movement. I can see why they were so outraged by her rabid full throated cheerleading for the worst, most toxic elements of the misogynist white nationalist alt-right mafia.
No, wait. I’m baffled. It was a virtually impenetrable thicket of to-be-sures and what-abouts and embarrassed admonishments about the adverse effects of giving a platform (however small and inconsequential) to “fringe elements” and the dangers of normalizing unmutual sentiments. She spent most of her ink supply doing back handsprings through the hoops of standard issue NYT disclaimerism, “This is what THEY say, crazy as it may sound to enlightened people like us. Who knows how they come up with this stuff?”
It doesn’t matter how much you “to be sure”, any break from orthodoxy must be dealt with severely.
The best part of the article was the artfully arranged front-lit photos of the iconoclasts. Full marks to the author because she out-robbied Robbie.
You just know Shermer was saying “This is my best side, make sure you get my best side.”
Yep.
It’s almost like ‘to be sures’ and other hedges and virtue signals don’t stop the left from a full on attack when you disagree with them in any way. The Hair and The Jacket hardest hit.

Absolutely no talk at the office about the Dotard-Rocket Man summit in Singapore coming up. Absolutely none. Really is interesting. Hey Hyperbole, I arrived at the third installment of your construction themed posts late to comment, but again, excellent work sir.
OT but congrats on your new little road warrior (dead thread and all).
Speaking of to-be-sure-ism:
I have some small bit of sympathy for the commission. I myself am not fond of either Coulter or Yiannopoulos, who do not seem to me to have anything very interesting to say, and who state what few ideas they have in the most provocative possible fashion, so that the resultant screaming will drown out the banality of the actual content.
Yes, okay, McArdle, we get it.
So what he’s saying is that he mostly agrees with their positions but has to keep up a facade of disdain.

NEVER APOLOGIZE!
Which is a metaphor for all politics today. We are a nation that is so angry at the other side, so blinded by our own grievances — real and imagined — that we are no longer living up to our most cherished values, or even looking out for simple self-interest. All we can see is the enemies in our midst; all we can feel is the rage that demands they be silenced, or destroyed.
We, we, we, all the way home.
One of Mueller’s publicity stunts may have backfired. In February he indicted a bunch of Ruskies and 3 Russian companies – with the assumption that none of them would ever show up in court.
Woops – Lawyers for Russian company Concord Management and Consulting, LLC, formally entered a “not guilty” plea in federal court Monday. They have good lawyers and have requested a speedy trial. Discovery should be fun in this case.
Of course Mueller will fail to provide proper discovery because “national security”.
Real Judges seem to be running out of patience in a big way with his antics.
Wait, Mueller is trying to delay because Concord was supposedly not properly served notice? Motherfucker, that was your job! Why the hell should you get to drag it out if you didn’t do what you were supposed to do?
regards the Australia Shooting –
The shootings took place near Margaret River.
Technically, *technically* this is ‘rural’, but in reality, Margaret River is WA wine country, and is generally a holiday escape area not that far from Perth.
This is like saying the Napa Valley in California is ‘rural’; sure, it’s ‘rural’, but it’s full of people from SF, caters to people from SF, and feels like SF, but with more trees and less homeless encampments.
A family of seven including four children was found dead with gunshot wounds Friday at a rural property in southwest Australia in what could be the country’s worst mass shooting in 22 years, police and news media said.
Let’s be honest, though, that’d be our worst mass shooting since Chicago last Saturday.
Police said they have no information that would raise concerns about wider public safety, suggesting a shooter is not at large.
What’s the over/under on this as a ‘family’ suicide?
And the over/under this will be used for moar gun control in Convictland? Remember all those stats of unturned in firearms? Bet this incident will be used to go after those people.
The odds are pretty high. But the gun is what makes it so awful. I mean, if they’d have his drive a carload if their kids off a cliff, they’d be misunderstood. But because it involves a gun, it’s time to start filling our pants with shit.
“if they’d have his drive a carload if their kids off a cliff, they’d be misunderstood”
Only if it’s a lesbian couple with a suitably multi-culti collection of adopted kids.
A litter of multi-culti kids that they apparently B.F. Skinnered near to starvation. Maybe drowning them was a blessing, like kittens in a potato sack. Evil cunts.
That’s getting swept under the rug now that it’s emerging that the child protection nazis were asleep at the switch.

The NYT Gives McCain One Last Fluff Before Dying
Complete with cheesy Faulker and Hemingway references.
“And I’d like to fuck the nation in the ass just one more time so I can go out with the praise of the media echoing in my mind…”
Matt fluffed him over at TOS in the most ridiculous article I’ve read by him. Maybe the brain cancer is contagious.
Outside of McCain’s principled stance against torture, I can’t find much to like about the man.
I respect him for his service in Vietnam and the horrors he endured as a prisoner, but his political life is corrupt and repulsive.
He has a weird form of Stockholm Syndrome
That six-figure payout to the two bums is gonna pale next to the lawsuit when some little girl jabs her foot on a heroin needle.

Urban, middle class, soccer moms wanting a coffee milkshake keep Starbucks in business.
This is a huge mistake.
This won’t change much of anything in suburban location. Urban Starbucks are going to become no-go zones.
Truth, but eh…
They’re not the government. They’ll just change their policy when it doesn’t work.
Good luck with that. The first bum that doesn’t get free access to their crapper will be the lead story on the evening news.
Having lived in the ghetto I assure you there are plenty of national chains with different policies. Fast fast restaurants don’t even let you use the bathrooms without asking first. The social signaling will wear off.

About four or five times the speakers mentioned politicians giving “free” community college to people, with their big “success” statement being a 57% increase in enrollments (no word on completions, or increase in non-educational jobs) not once did they ever thank the people who were actually footing the bill, or did it seem to cross their minds that this might be one giant cluster…
But it was Maryland, and they’re going the way of Detroit.
Tuition this term: ~$500. The major is student-friendly and career-focused, meaning a) no BS except the token couple Comm courses administrators managed to shoehorn in, and b) no extraneous textbooks. The text I’m using this term carried over from last, and will be used next as well. Autodesk apps are free for students. We have employers showing up on campus to recruit. And my instructors are all working architects themselves.
If community college were made “free” here, I expect none of the above would remain true for long. They’d pile on the courses and the textbooks, force through a load of social science garbage. No doubt they’d get rid of the architects and hire professional educators. And those avid employers, well, I imagine one crop of graduates would kill their incentive to hire straight out of the program.
And of course, since it’s “free,” tuition would skyrocket… meaning the courses which are currently underpopulated would have waiting lists, despite class sizes shrinking.
this Almost makes me want to pay 500$ to attend, it sounds as if I would learn something, nice!
Tuition this term: ~$500
Damn, can we swap? Mine is almost $8,000. It’s one of the less expensive programs too.
Credentialism for the win!
I’m old enough to remember when CNM was TVI. Glad they kept some of that philosophy.
Honestly, I think they’ve benefited from the fact that almost anyone going to college straight out of high school on the Roadrunner is going to choose UNM over CNM. I don’t know that for a fact, but almost all of my classmates have been 20-somethings with several years of employment under their belt, older people looking for a career change, and high school students earning college credits before they graduate. So all that “free” money, student loans aside, hasn’t really toxified the undergrad programs or driven up costs much.
And of course you’re not getting an associates in Woke Studies or
EnglishWakandan Lit. Our instructor last term lamented the fact that they couldn’t add requirements like design theory or architectural geometry because someone, either the college or the charter under which it operates or the accreditors, put hard limits on how many hours they’re allowed to require, and the core reqs for gaining familiarity with the Autodesk suite and construction management basics take up too much time. So their programs aren’t very flabby.^^^This is what education should look like.
Heh. It occurs to me, because this course is designed either to give you an associates in drafting or allow you to enter UNM’s architecture program, it might be UNM that put the limits on what credits CNM is allowed to poach from them.
I am 100% in favor of free college as long as faculty and administrators donate their services.

Hell, they don’t even have to do that – just don’t take any deductions whatsoever.
To the alt-right, of course, being red-pilled means abandoning liberalism as a lie. It means treating one’s own prejudices as intuitions rather than distortions to be overcome. The act of doing this — casting off socially acceptable values in favor of those that were once unthinkable — creates the edgy energy that has, of late, attracted Kanye West. (West’s sojourn on the alt-right has been facilitated in part by Candace Owens, a conspiracy-minded African-American conservative who created the website Red Pill Black.)
Because the red pill experience is so intense, progressives should think about how to counter dynamics that can make banal right wing beliefs seem like seductive secret knowledge. Attempts at simply repressing bad ideas don’t seem to be working.
Keep telling yourself that, as you stick your fingers in your ears and go “LALALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU!”
Repress away.
So, now liking Trump is not a socially acceptable value. Keep it up, morons, because this is how you get more Trump.
“Banal right-wing beliefs” like thinking that your post-tax earnings going up doesn’t amount to dog kibble, or however Pelosi termed it?
Or does the author mean the real blow-your-mind ideas like maybe financing tax breaks with long-term deficits isn’t fiscally conservative?
That’s rich, considering about 90% of the left’s platform came from casting off socially acceptable values (at one time) in favor of those that were once unthinkable.
All projection, all of the time.
The act of doing this — casting off socially acceptable values in favor of those that were once unthinkable
You mean casting off socially acceptable values like personal responsibility, not judging people by their race, etc., in favor of once-unthinkable ideas like communism, socialism, and identity politics tribalism?
One of the terrifying things about Trump’s victory is that it appeared to put the fundamental assumptions underlying pluralistic liberal democracy up for debate, opening an aperture for poisonous bigotry to seep into the mainstream.
If Trump did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.
I assume they provided well-sourced citations for Trump’s bigotry? Because they would never just make a vile accusation without evidence in order to demonize a political opponent.
I’ll admit that while watching his Indiana rally last night being pretty amazed that this has happened in my lifetime but then I remembered that the average person is pretty damn stupid and half of the population is worse off than that. Ah well, he’s not Hillary and Ginsberg will be dead soon…
More importantly – if the left and Deep State manages to destroy Trump through dirty tricks or a rigged election – the next guy will be much much worse than Trump.
If that happens it won’t be a “guy”. Think Kamala Harris or some other balefully throbbing night-star of the dem milky way. They’ve doubled down on the identity politics and there is no going back for them for at least one cycle. They are going to have their asses served to them on pilfered silver thanks to the Clintons.
I mean the next Republican populist – if the shooting doesn’t start immediately.
Ah… understood. It’s like trying to feed your kids some broccolli and offering up swiss chard as an option.
What does she understand the word “pluralistic” to mean?
“Pluralistic” means you can argue all you want but I’m the Big Bull and youse best be bending over right now.

Prison calls show Chad Curtis hid assets (with the advice of his estate planning attorney) to avoid $1.8M judgment, US District attorney says

Fuckin’ Chad Curtis. Him and Dave Meggett make it harder for me to enjoy memories of my two favorite teams of all time, the 1998 Yankees and the 1990 Giants.
The old “fake divorce”. I guess it’s harder to prove when he’s in prison and not sleeping in the same bed as her.
It happened to my friend’s estate. Scumbags of the highest order. Judgement came in, and a divorce shortly thereafter. They still live in the same house.

It is highly debatable as to whether this is a result of educational funding and attention or a result of culture. When I refer to culture, I refer to both the culture of the families and peers, which appear to put real educational achievement behind other factors in terms of importance, and the culture of the school systems, which put more value on self-esteem and dollars spent than on actual learning.
Along these lines, I was listening to a radio program about how high schools are no longer providing class ranking info for their students. Primarily because the differential in grade performance is so small as to be statistically inconsequential. They never asked the question why so many students are achieving 4.527 +/- 0.003 GPAs, instead of having a bigger spreads that might actually reflect talent and/or effort. When everyone gets an A, it doesn’t mean anything anymore. The schools are pushing everyone thru in the name of self-esteem and federal dollars for school graduation rates.
My son’s school (Catholic) is the exact opposite. They are unafraid to fail students, and they adjust the coursework to make certain that some will fail. There are no easy A’s. He’s concerned about his grades, but my feedback to him is that he is actually being forced to learn something about the real world, not everyone succeeds. Pretending otherwise is a fool’s game. Those Chinese and Indian students certainly didn’t come from self-esteem oriented programs. Self-esteem is earned through hard work and perseverance.
I think it’s a problem for college-bound kids from schools without grade inflation competing against the kids with grade inflation. My high school was the same way. When other high schools in the area gave an extra GPA point for AP courses, there’s no way the brightest kids from my school could come GPA-wise. This had a negative effect on admission acceptance and merit-based scholarship offers.
I was told that colleges know which schools grade inflate and which don’t, and take that into account. I think that’s bullshit though. There’s no way they could do that for all of the schools out there with an objective system.
Medical schools agree and don’t care what your college designated GPA is. You provide transcripts and they calculate your GPA themselves. Jonny had to do grade forgiveness for that failed calculus course that isn’t reflected in his GPA? It is in the GPA the AMCAS calculates for you.
That’s definitely a big factor, but it’s way too uncomfortable for most people to accept.
I try to explain it this way: Culture (not race) affects education and career outcomes. Asians and Jews are not as successful as they are because of some genetic trait; it’s just the huge emphasis that their respective cultures place on education, hard work, and financial success. So it’s not really unreasonable to say that a different culture places less of an emphasis on these things and causes its members to fall short. Nevertheless, most people are going to think that this is a racist idea.
It’s the silly season, which appears to be always these days.
Bernie wants to expand workplace democracy by forcing workers to join a union against their will.

No fucking way!
They actually called it the “Workplace Democracy Act”.
“Compulsory Dues Act” didn’t fly well with focus groups.
I hear that they are preparing the “Anti-Dog-Eat-Dog Act” for presentation next week.
“Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea”. Hmm, sounds fair and democratic.
If everybody votes, it’s democratic.
Whoopee
Come on, you can’t expect people to know when they are being taken advantage of! They need the government or a union to protect them from exploitation, even if they don’t feel exploited.

Prison calls show Chad Curtis hid assets (with the advice of his estate planning attorney) to avoid $1.8M judgment, US District attorney says
I know nothing whatsoever about this story, but how could you possibly not assume everything you say on a prison phone is being recorded?
Some people are… how do I put this?
Dumb.
BTW, pro-tip:
If you’re ever put in the back of a patrol car with another person, it’s because they can’t figure out who to charge, and they want you to argue about it while they record.
Say nothing outside of “I’m exercising my right to remain silent. I would like to speak to an attorney.”
Most people will argue with their buddies over who the bag of blow belongs to as soon as they think they’re in private. The back of a squad car is not private.
HTH, smooches
I’ll never forget the bit from the now-famous video about the law professor talking about why you never speak to police where he has the ex-detective law student who spills the beans about the tape recorder gag.
You’re in an interrogation room and a detective comes in to question you. He gives you a big speech about how he’s going to ask you some questions and your answers will be recorded, because he’s required to let you know. He then puts a tape recorder on the table and hits the record button. He asks some questions, but doesn’t get what he wants. So, he gives you the old “Help me help you, tell me something I can use, off the record, and we’ll try to get you out of here,” and hits the stop button. And you, being a dummy, talk to him, because the tape recorder isn’t recording.
But that doesn’t really matter because the whole goddamned room is wired, and everything you do and say is being recorded using concealed cameras and microphones, because you’re in a police station, genius.
Reminds me of the scene from The Wire where they tell the dumbass suspect that the copy machine is a lie detector.
Some people are… how do I put this?
Dumb.
There’s a series of soundbytes at the start of the Ricochet podcast, and two always make me smile: the first, might be Rachel Maddow, asking “Are you going to put me or anyone I know into camps?” followed by an unrelated clip of Trump saying, “We have people that are… stupid.”
Yep, Maddow.
Pretty sure they’re not supposed to record calls to your attorney without a warrant, but not sure.
Lawyer calls come in on a different line than the payphone bank that inmates with privileges get to use. At least in federal prison.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the lawyer line got extra listening. BS parallel reconstruction and all that.
Didn’t the Blind Sheikh’s attorney get nailed a while back?

“Licensed To Strip: Do ID Laws Put Florida Adult Entertainers At Risk?
When Stormy Daniels rolled into West Palm Beach last month to perform at Ultra Gentlemen’s Club — just across the street from President Trump’s golf course — she brought a lot of things with her.
Two burly bodyguards. A rake to gather up tips from the stage. Plenty of intrigue.
Something Stormy did not bring: a license to strip from the Palm Beach County government.
“Stormy Daniels would be exempt from the ordinance requirements because she’s considered a featured performer,” said Rob Shelt, manager of Palm Beach County’s Division of Consumer Affairs.
A featured performer…meaning, she’s a celebrity briefly stopping by on a tour.
But by law, the other dancers at Ultra — and all the other strip clubs in Palm Beach County — do need a special license: an adult entertainment work identification card, or AEID, issued by the county’s Division of Consumer Affairs.
“They’re creating a registry of strippers” said Elizabeth Nolan Brown, who frequently writes about sex work at the libertarian magazine Reason. “They’re opening up these dancers to having their information revealed to people. And that can be bad because people might be, just, sort of, maniacs.”
Stalkers. Zealots. Violent ex-partners. Spouses in a child custody battle. Potential employers.
Many dancers are parents or have other jobs, and because of the stigma attached to stripping, there are lots of reasons they may want to keep that information private, according to Nolan Brown.”
http://wlrn.org/post/licensed-strip-do-id-laws-put-florida-adult-entertainers-risk
ENB wistfully wishes she had what it took to be a stripper/prostitute (read: tits and ass).
Glibness aside, occupational licensing of any type is horseshit.
Daytime strippers are a thing.
Whatever you think of her, there’s a credible message here: maniacs exist, the police can’t always protected you, often they are< the maniacs, and, oh, yeah, the state is keeping tabs on your profession. Maybe it's all about protectionism now, but there's no reason to think they won't eventually use the information the harass you or your colleagues.
So its actually in the licensing law that featured performers are exempt?
We do what now? For fucks sake.
Cool, ENB. Now do one about how drivers license, ccw and all other state issued licenses are bad.
Idaho dumped the ccw requirement a year ago. Oddly, nothing changed. Just like when they decided to allow cc on college campuses.
Almost like people have agency and guns dont.
Unless it looks scary and has black plastic on it.

It’s nice, but to my understanding if you happened to not be a Sheik, but had a lot of cash to burn and wanted a weekend with some hookers and blow, Bahrain is the only place in the Arab world you could do that. They aren’t exactly fundamentalists.
They spend a lot of time here too. There’s always 2-3 private and government jets from Bahrain parked at LAX.
True enough, but their willingness to break with their Arab bretheren could signal broader ideological shifts on the Peninsula; namely that Israel is a better neighbor than a cash flush, nuclear Iran.
Just an example of the 3 dimensional chess that Obama plays. He wanted peace between Israel and the Arabs. The best way to do that is to create a common enemy. In this case Iran.
Giving Iran pallets of cash in the middle of the night? That’s just another dimension.
Granting the famously anti-Israel UN inspection privileges under the IAEA, which I’m sure is in no way corrupted by its parent agency’s contempt for Israel, on Iran’s terms, is the mind’s eye-opening fifth dimension. Peace in our time.
and where they make a desert, they call it peace.
Trump is a boor but some of the things he’s accomplished has me shaking my head in amazement. This is one of them. “Yeah, them evil bastard Jews aren’t that bad. At least they’re not Persians.”
I’d like to see CNN or MSNBC interview some Persian Jews. Of course, they’d have to go to Los Angeles or New York to do so, which is kind of the point.
Or Persian Baha’is. Lot of them living here for some odd reason, who knows, complete mystery. And their shrine to the holy Bab is on Mount Carmel, and the Israelis let them visit unmolested. Strange, that.
Pre 9/11, Bahrain was the R&R destination for SW Asia. Stupid me didn’t give a shit about going and have one more country to cross off my list now.

I’m back, my glibbas.
Good fishing trip. Decent weather (always the most critical variable in any hunting or fishing expedition), the fish were biting (caught between 12 – 20 a day). Back at “work” today. If I can be arsed, I’ll post a pic or two later from the trip.
Is that the kind of trip where you bring your wife?
You can. Mrs. Dean has been a couple of times with me. My brother and I have been going with Pater Dean every year for the last 20 years. Its our Christmas present. 20 years ago Pater pointed out that we had all the crap we needed, so what we really needed was time together, so he books a fishing trip every year for the three of us plus whatever of his cronies want to go. His cronies are generally really entertaining, and his best friend is hilarious. They’ve been best friends since second grade, more than 60 years.
So there definitely ISN’T a spa
Actually, there is, kinda. You have to make reservations at least a day in advance, so the contract staff can drive in (they don’t yet have on-site spa staff). Because you have to price in at least an hour and a half drive time, its quite expensive. I could have done with a massage after day two, but couldn’t justify the price.
That’s the sorta fishing trip that I could sink my teeth into, lately. This past winter’s toil has left me bereft of any lust about loading boats and camping rough. I think I’ve aged five years in five months.
