After the rickrolling incident a few weeks back, I wondered if I should do the same thing today. Y’know, make all the links go to goatse or lemonparty or the like. But no, I am a kind (((man))), one who cares about the people who carefully read and comment on the news stories I curate. Fuck, who am I kidding? Click at your own risk.
The parallel theme here is mediocrity, which engulfed SP and me last night. After much pressure from Sloopy, Francisco d’Anconia, and Swiss, we caved and decided to watch Jaws, which both of us had managed to avoid. This was part of a drinking session involving a Viognier from Tuscany (which I was dubious about, Viognier is a fickle grape that only seems to do well in Condrieu, but the wine dealer seemed adamant that we’d like it). I’ll report the same reaction to the wine and the movie- neither were good, but neither were bad enough to be fun. So I’ll do some mediocre links. No titties, no bizarre sex stories, no Philippine crucifixions. Maybe a shark attack, though.
I’m not sure why anyone still pays any attention to Trump’s brain-lint Twitter shit, but they do. Here’s the latest: Donnie hates Amazon. Who gives a fuck? Cats. Laser pointers. Yawn.
Another yawner: someone inconsequential says something stupid on Facebook, then the Twitter-mob descends, doing their best to ruin their life for Crimethink.
Ted Nugent is a fine guitarist, but like every other entertainer, ought to just entertain us and shut the fuck up. He’s right, of course, but still. Shut up and play yer guitar.
Goddammit, I miss all the fun! I do note the irony regarding the quantity…
Not exactly news, but recent thoughts from a brilliant guy. Listen to the whole thing. And this, too.
Basic personal liberty is being treated with contempt by our government.
One thing my ancestral land excels at is producing much better looking politicians than the US does. They’re just as dishonest and muddle-headed, but at least easier on the eyes than Nancy Pelosi or Patty Murray. This particular one wants to halt all defensive action while spending huge resources in dissecting a propaganda film from a source with a long track record of fakery (remember Muhammed Durra?)
OK, you asked for it (no, you didn’t , but let me live in my illusions) and here it is: Old Guy Music, this time with my favorite flugelhorn player paired with my favorite big band. Smokin’!
Happy Easter glibs. I just got a new house and a new job so I won’t be on as much
That’s a shitty excuse. Unacceptable. Sad!
I might submit my first article soon. Young Karl Marx is playing at the art house cinema near my new place and I have a movie pass.
Young Karl Marx movie? Pass.
See, that’s how you use it.
Happy Easter!
Happy Easter to all you Tulpas.
On behalf of the Great Tulpa Collective, I want to wish us a Happy Easter and also thank us for wishing us a Happy Easter.
We’re welcome.
Congrats!
Thank you
Happy Easter!
Congratulations on your new home.
Mazel Tov!
Congratulations on the new house and job!
Didn’t like Jaws?!? I can’t even. Also to prove not only do I read the links, I read the comments in the links. Top comment from shark article.l:
HELLO! The ocean is the shark’s natural habitat. The shark is only doing what comes naturally to it.
When YOU invade the shark’s home, what do you think is going to happen??? Must be the same bunch of people who stick their finger in a power outlet. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Easter to those that observe.
That’s my rationale. Shark’s there first, he’s welcome to it. I’ll stay in this nice, dry boat. Because sharks are, by nature, assholes.
Also, didn’t like Jaws!?!? Besides the quotability factor, it’s got two good actors cast in unusual roles bouncing lines off each other, and it’s got that funky timing Spielberg films had back in the day. I can’t quite describe it, but there’s a deadpan element to his older stuff that I really like.
Quint’s Indianapolis scene alone makes it classic. Plus, the editing the great Williams score…
In most other things, you’re a good man. Here, you’re found wanting. I will overlook it, hard as that may be.
Anyone who doesn’t appreciate the awesomeness of Jaws is a defective whack-a-loon!
These kids all sound like Hihn. As soon as someone questions them, they yell “bully!”
Sounds a lot like this to me.
“This woman works in labor and delivery – how can be trust her with our black and brown babies?” Arechiga wrote.
Did you check out the Planned Parenthood down the street?
Ok, if we’re using “brown” to describe skin tone can we dispense with “black”? No humans are black. Tires are black, more or less. Asphalt is black. Some hair is black. No human skin is black.
Not been to Africa much?
Never, but nevertheless I can say with absolute confidence that the darkest skin tone found in humans is a very dark brown. You can tell because people with the darkest skin typically also have black hair, and it is noticeably darker than their skin. Admittedly pedantic, but it annoys me when people, especially SJWs, refer to “white” and “black” as if it’s a binary concept, or “white” and “people of color”, which is even worse.
Ithere is a gal that works at a junkyard I frequent, she’s so dark she’s almost purple. Also would.
My kid is black (in common usage of the term,) but he calls himself brown and other black people are brown to him. He’s 5. I haven’t figured out what his term for Hispanics is.
Something to do with beans?
“Brown people” kind of boggles me, especially coming from the people who claim to be super-duper racially sensitive and stuff.
Who are they referring to? Cambodians? Inuits? Libyans? Brazilians? Sicilians?
Not Chuck Mangione?
“After much pressure from Sloopy, Francisco d’Anconia, and Swiss, we caved and decided to watch Jaws”
Why would you do that to yourself? Should’ve made them choose an actual good movie.
What is wrong with you people? Jaws is the ultimate man vs. nature movie.
Name a better one. The Edge? Give me a break.
The John Wayne Island in the Sky? It has one of the most disturbing scenes in a mainstream Hollywood movie: ~300-lb. Andy Devine doing a cannonball into a swimming pool.
How about Scott of the Antarctic?
“Jaws is the ultimate man vs. nature movie.”
This feels like tallest midget territory. I can’t think of any “man vs. nature movie” that’s good.
Yeah I can’t think of many jems in that category. Godzilla at a stretch maybe. The day after tomorrow is arguably a movie as well.
Godzilla = man vs man
The day after tomorrow = stinks
Agreed on day after tomorrow, would castaway count as man Vs nature. Not as acclaimed but easier on modern movie tastes than jaws. I haven’t seen it does the revenant count is it any good.
OK, those were two decent movies. Strong contenders, but not enough quotable lines.
It is really hard to beat “We’re gonna need a bigger boat”
I screwed up the quote
*hangs head in shame
Would Jurassic Park count as man vs nature? “Life finds a way” fits into that theme well.
There are lots of them out there but none greater than Jaws
Not exactly man versus nature, but Deliverance is up there as well.
That category has lots of winners:
Jaws, obviously.
Cast Away
127 Hours
Alive
Journey To The Center Of The Earth
Lord Of The Flies
he’ll, doesn’t Armageddon count?
Friedkin’s Sorcerer?
A very underrated movie.
Blu-ray is awesome! Did a written review for that a while back (not linking to it). Will discuss more in future.
Of course….it is a remake/reimagining of “Wages of Fear” by Clouzot – even more amazing for the time/location of filming.
The James Stewart Flight of the Phoenix.
Lillian Gish’s The Wind was made under some pretty extreme conditions in the Mojave Desert, although it probably didn’t get up to 120 as people claim.
Name a better one.
Touching the Void
Definitely not as good as Jaws but the grey was a solid semi recent man vs nature movie
Choke yourself. That entire movie should have ended on the cutting room floor.
Suthenboy’s correct about JAWS. But, THE EDGE is quite good. The contrast in moral character between Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins is excellent. “It doesn’t FEEL north.” Mamet’s one hell of a writer.
Could have watched Tentacles instead. That one is bad enough to be fun.
Favorite part is when Shelley Winters says she wishes she could be on the boat in the junior regatta with her son, to which her son’s friend replies, “Then we’d need a tornado to move the boat!”
Jaws is redeemed by one scene, when Quint explains the tattoo.
As my wife likes to say to her religious parents every Easter: Happy zombie Jesus day.
I was raised in that zombie tradition; a rambling lapsed Protestant perspective follows:
Why is a Jew doing Easter morning links? It’s all good….why not.
Why Christian anti-Semitism? Jesus was a Jew; I admire any community that has a warm and generous support system; I admire any person who strives to live their principles; so anti-Semitism just never made any sense to me.
The lesson I always took from the crucifixion was that colonialism and dictatorship are wrong.
Jesus was a sort of libertarian badass: rules generally suck, so ignore them. Take care of your family, get that ox out of the ditch, and then maybe get back to the rules. Render unto Caesar: no point in getting hung over a few shekels…pick your battles…it’s good for someone to decide which side of the street folks should drive on.
(((I))) like the way you think Don.
Someone tweets what we all have been thinking. Hogg wasn’t smacked enough by his parents.
I actually feel sorry for the kid.
He has peaked, nothing in his life is going to match this. And he has used up any goodwill.
It’s going to be a rough life for him.
I do too, a little bit. I mean, I think he needed a male role model in his life as a child, and he probably needed to be told “no” more often, but that’s not his fault. Mind you, being a self-important attention-seeking obnoxious little shit is his fault and he should be roundly and thoroughly mocked for it, but I get how he got there.
His father is a government agent and his mother is (supposedly) involved in the media. His entire outlook going through his life has been one of entitlement and power being used to impose one’s will on others.
He’s a lost cause.
Ah, that explains a metric f-ton.
I’m sure he’ll get to be a conductor on a train loaded with boxcars someday.
People keep saying this about Hogg “peaking.” Let me remind you that there’s always exceptions, such as the failed artist living on streets of Munich who joined a Bavarian infantry regiment in WWI and the rest is unfortunate history.
Ludicrous. Hogg would never serve in a Bavarian infantry regiment.
Hogg’s the kind of prissy, entitled brat who goes from failed artist to Nazi salutes all at once, no putsches or prison for that is.
You know who else was a failed artist living on the streets of Munich who joined a Bavarian infantry regiment in – oh, nevermind…
I don’t. He’s an irritating little fuckknuckle and he can’t fade into obscurity fast enough to suit me.
I feel a lot sorrier for a kid from a bad neighborhood who gets caught up in the drug war or shot than I ever will for this opportunistic coddled little prick.
Oh, I’m sure the Brady Campaign or Everytown will be glad to give him a cushy job.
He will run for office and win, backed by the right people.
Canada is worried about a rise in John Titor’s racism in the country.
Will they deal with Quebecois racism?
Wait til the Quran needs to be bilingual with Quebeqi french.
“The majority, 61 percent of hate crimes targeting Muslim populations, were nonviolent,” said Warren Silver, an analyst at Statistics Canada. “The most common offense was mischief such as vandalism and graffiti.”
Fake news.
Of course they would.
And by worried, they include people like me. Their definition of ‘racism’ is very loooooose.
Nothing that a cross-country consultation can’t fix!
I haven’t seen him here lately.
He’s one of a few Glibs who now mostly hang out in the Glibs Discord chat.
DId Trudeau apologize for John?
I slept in, but now,
I am risen.
nyuk nyuk nyuk
Booooo!
Basic personal liberty is being treated with contempt by our government.
And they all had a good laugh.
Not exactly news, but recent thoughts from a brilliant guy.
Superb! Why don’t the talking heads interview more people like Walter Williams on mainstream news shows? People might just learn something.
You answered your own question
Meh, it is nothing insidious as that, it is simply that people won’t watch. Contrary to what many here seem to think there is still a free market in media, if serious, no spin, no theatrics news sources could draw eyes and clicks they would be all over. Sadly people prefer Fox and CNN, Huffpo and Breitbart, no one is forced to watch, they chose to.
I dont know how old you are. I remember when the History channel and the nature channels were actually good. Now it’s UFOs, ghosts, reality shows and other assorted sensational nonsense.
So you are saying it’s aliens?
Sensationalism! that was the word I wanted not theatrics. I hate when I can’t think of the word I want.
Oh there is definitely a free market in media, and their ratings are in the toilet from what I hear. It just looks like they interview people who throw mud and talk shit. I only get this impression from clips I see online because I stopped watching years ago. Walter Williams makes sound arguments how the government is dangerous and that can’t be heard.
and that can’t be heard
I’m sure some news organizations put politics over profits and actively try to ignore dissenting opinions, but It’s not like Walter Williams was blacklisted, he wrote a weekly column for years and guest hosted the biggest radio show (maybe 2nd forgot about Stern). It’s a shame he isn’t as popular as you and I would like but it’s not a conspiracy keeping him down it’s the fact that most people are idiots.
He even alludes to that himself in the clip, talking about politicians generally representing the majority of Americans pretty accurately. More people are interested in “gib me dat” than liberty or even just the rule of law, hence the many and varied obstacles to a direct democracy in our Constitution. Which, of course, America began to chip away at before the ink was even dry. “A Republic, if you can keep it” indeed.
The 17th Ammendment was the end of the republic.
I’d set 1913 as the date of the end of the Republic.
16th Amendment
17th Amendment
The Federal Reserve
… Hobbit
Agreed. I wasn’t getting out my tinfoil hat for this, (I keep that for Seth Rich stories), it is just a shame he is not heard by more people outside of weirdos. There is a big stink in Denver right now about the affordable housing rules the city imposed and people not qualified for the program somehow bought houses in it. Rather than just report on the stupid story, journalists should read Thomas Sowell’s Basic Economics chapter on rent control to the audience. The citizenry would be better served.
I think the reason the news is so biased (in one direction or another) is because most viewers don’t want the cold, hard facts; they want to see things that make them feel good for having the “correct” opinions all along.
Lefties don’t want to see stories that point out the hypocrisy and corruption of Democrats, so those stories won’t run in the mainstream media. Instead, they’ll put out sensational paragraphs about how Drumpf is the worst president in world history. Likewise for Righties and Fox News.
If the typical viewer saw a story that forced them to seriously re-think their long-held positions and loyalties, that would make them uncomfortable and they’d turn off the TV.
I just got a new house and a new job so I won’t be on as much
Before you go, lend me fiddy bucks. I’m good for it. As far as you know.
Why don’t the talking heads interview more people like Walter Williams on mainstream news shows? People might just learn something.
*throws flag, blows whistle*
That’s a five yard penalty for answering your own question.
“Man vs Nature”? How about Jeremiah Johnson?
depend on how loosely one defines “nature” There are lots of good films where nature has a supporting role, most disaster movies etc.. Hell if yo want to stretch a little movies like ‘The Eiger Sanction” or “Bat 21” fit the bill.
“anyway, I am dead.” -Hatchet Jack
It would have been a lot more interesting if they had done a movie on the real-life man that the silly Robert Redford film was (very) loosely based on, that man being John “Liver-Eatin'” Johnston:
http://www.johnlivereatingjohnston.com/
“Liver Eating Johnson was a violent, drunk, mountain of a man who didn’t have a very high reputation but was by no doubt the most fearless fighter and he became a legend. Johnston was built like a brick wall with a towering height over six feet tall and weighing 280 pounds none of which was fat.”
I’d go see that movie.
How the frick is this idiot Hogg managing to cause problems for Fox and Ingraham? It’s fricken incredible.
They let him. Ingraham should have told him to go blow it out of his ass. Apologizing was the worst thing FOX could have done. Blood in the water. Of course he wont accept the apology unless FOX adopts an anti-second amendment stance. That is the kind of uncompromising position that the pro-2nd people need to adopt. When are they gonna learn?
Hit back. This and that company pulled their ads. They are anti-second amendment. They dont believe in personal liberty. Boycott them. etc.
Hit. Back.
I just can’t understand how her comment could have led to this.
Absolutely. NEVER. APOLOGIZE.
Little dip shit punk then turns around and says ‘love thy neighbour’. But first lemme ruin a career and not accept an apology because I’m a faux self-righterous zealot over playing his hand.
Pure evil.
^^^^^^^^^
He reminds me of Paul danos character in There Will Be Blood. He would be a prohibitionist in another era. Just a creep, I saw a lot of people like that in his school. We had a hug in protest at my school I can’t even remember what about but it was organised by the same kind of person someone who by no standards other than what they claimed to stand for and force onto others was a good person.
Because the new suits running Fox get it even less than the previous suits running Fox did. The people who built Fox and were fine being attacked are gone. These are people who loathe Trump, and don’t have any clue why all the media’s attacks failed so miserably.
The most serious scandal of Trump’s remains grab-them-by-the-pussy. And you know why? Because instead of laughing it off, Trump stupidly apologized himself. The apology made the story seem credible. No one above Ingraham would comprehend what I just said. They’re out of touch imbeciles.
As everybody says and is proven time and again, when the left attacks you, never apologize. Never. They never do, and it works for them. As the Duke said in one of the finest westerns ever (She Wore a Yellow Ribbon), “Never apologize, it’s a sign of weakness.”
She made the mistake of attacking a high school student for something completely unrelated to gun rights.
Happy Easter., Glibs. Strawberry cream cheese French toast casserole for breakfast. My mama is making lamb shanks with crispy sliced potatoes for dinner. Life is good here. Hope yours is as well.
My sister is making lamb too today for the gathering.
Enjoy your cake.
I’m a little jelly, to be frank. We’ll be having bloody marys, burgers, and deviled eggs while the kids run around. I think I’m the only person I know who actually enjoys lamb, which means I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had it in the past decade.
I’m in the same situation, A rack of lamb sounds perfect for today – hell, just about any day.
We’re grilling a rack of lamb today. So good!
I have a chicken in the fridge that will be used to make matzo ball soup for dinner this coming week.
There’s also a sirloin steak, which I will either cook as gyudon or make into a steak and ale pie.
Happy Easter!
Happy Easter.
April Fools!!!! 😉
(Hey, somebody had to say it)
Jaws was a cinematic masterpiece. It was groundbreaking, suspenseful at virtually every moment (show me where it was lacking), the dialog was brilliant (I can’t think of anything that could be cut or added to improve it), the characters rich without requiring much more than a cursory introduction (You knew Quint was a serious man and that he had your attention before uttering a word with his fingernails), the score to the movie was exceptional, the interplay between characters was perfect physically as well as the aforementioned dialogue, the cinematography (especially that done on the water) was a work of art. And the plot was flawless.
Sure the few seconds that the shark was fully visible showed a poorly-constructed rubber fish. But if in those few seconds you lost respect for the genius that this movie is,
I feel for youthen you can fuck right off. Also, He is risen! Happy Easter!
^This guy gets it^
Is the Jaws thing a Patrick’s bateman quote?
Holy shit, it kinda looks like one.
::goes back to listening to Whitney Houston music while getting Easter eggs ready to hide::
I saw Jaws in the theater when I was a kid and it scared the shit out of me. I havn’t seen it in years and I like to keep it that way.
Same here. That movie was fucking scary as hell to a kid who spent almost every waking hour during the summer on or around the water. Sure it is pretty unlikely that a shark somehow gets to NW Minnesoda, but you can’t ever be completely sure.
Testify! Testify!
Seriously? Every character was a one-dimensional stereotype.
The dialogue sucked.
Richard Dreyfuss played Richard Dreyfuss.
Every trope was rolled out.
Meh. I was rooting for the shark.
^^This gal gets it.^^
The only thing right in this post is that He is risen.
Hear! Hear!
Amen. Preach it, Sloopy!
Still, Brad Parscale, who is managing Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, hinted in a tweet late Thursday that the administration may act to raise Amazon’s postal costs. “Once the market figures out that a single @usps rule change will crush @amazon’s bottom line we will see,” Parscale wrote.
I wonder if anybody has told these cretins what sort of margin Amazon has. They’re about as close as you can get to, “We lose money on every one, but we make it up on volume.”
Bezos has been going full guns against Trump since the election and he wont let up. It is no surprise that Trump is going to eventually lose patience and take a swing. Given how low Bezos has stooped it is hard not to get some satisfaction out of it. Still, using govt to settle personal scores is a bad road to go down. I am betting Henry Juszkiewicz is glad the shoe is on the other foot.
Very disappointing as an Amazon shopper.
Bezos should either join politics are back the fuck off.
I’m sick of these unelected billionaires entering the political foray. It’s disrespectful at its core.
“Once the market figures out”
Pretty rich coming from a government owned company.
99% of the things I order on Amazon are delivered by UPS. Rarely does something come via USPS. USPS has been losing money for decades and Trump is way off base publicly going after a company like that. That is the shit Obama pulled with for profit universities. According to Peter Schweizers new book, Obama essentially destroyed the industry with threats of regulation and then actual regulation and when the stock price of University of Phoenix was low enough and most of their competition shuttered, his friends went in and bought it up and now they run it. Funny you don’t hear the progs going after for profit universities anymore.
Can you (or anyone) provide me with some literature on how the government has fucked over for-profit colleges?
I hear a lot of fearmongering about these institutions from Lefties, which causes a Pavlovian response that makes me think that for-profit colleges are actually halfway decent alternatives that are threatening the educational establishment.
What is the actual truth of the matter? Is Amazon shipping via USPS for free or just for cheaper than UPS or FedEx will do it? Shipping is a fucking business. If you’re losing money, raise your prices. The whole concept of USPS vs. Amazon is absurd. The USPS has other customers and Amazon has other shippers.
WSJ ran an article yesterday basically saying the increase in package volume is really important to it because of the decline in first class mail. I would love to see whether package delivery is profitable for US Psychology or just helping make better use of fixed costs.
Happy Easter!
I made some fantastic French toast for breakfast, apparently similar to Brett’s.
I dont know how old you are. I remember when the History channel and the nature channels were actually good.
And Scientific American had articles about actual science, instead of thinly disguised propaganda for the SJW agitators.
They have a disguise?
say what you will about the right, but it does not poison everything it touches like the left.
And ESPN was about sports, fashion magazines were about fashion, comedy was about being funny….
While Easter is, in fact, next week, Happy Fake Easter to you glibs
What if we celebrate Orthodox Easter too? Twice as nice!
Bezos has been going full guns against Trump since the election and he wont let up.
I don’t know if Bezos, himself cares that much. The shit flinging howler monkeys at WaPo have been full bore anti-Trump since before he got the nomination, and as the house organ of the Deep State, that’s their business model. I think Bezos just recognizes that.
He owns that rag. They are doing as they are told or he is not stopping them. Either way, he is the captain of the ship and thus responsible.
And, that’s his prerogative as a free person. I don’t get how Trump can still come off like he’s running business deals and the US government not be recognized for what it had been for many years: fascist
Because one side is happy it’s happening to the other side now, and the other side is just unhappy that they’re not the ones doing it anymore.
I think he cares enough to signal his contempt
The parallel theme here is mediocrity
That went over my head because I thought those were fine links. Then again I excel in mediocrity. It is my best personal trait.
It’s my middle name.
My middle name is, “Soggy Toast Made From Stale Bread”. Pisses me off it won’t fit in the box on most forms one has to fill out.
True story: only little Reason Sophia’s entire name fits on her social security card.
Liberty Ordeth Cranberry
And
Justice Forall Sloopy Juneteenth
both have part of their middle names cut off.
I hope when you kids get older they go on rants about personal liberty every time someone asks them about their names.
That nurse has lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes.
Still would though.
I think these stories bother me more, now that weed is “legal” in a half-dozen states, than it would have in the time prior to the ‘liberalization’ of marijuana law.
what bothers me is the utter absence of any awareness the obvious hypocrisy of our legal system, which will hand out permission slips for some people to produce this same product in similar bulk, just a few hours drive away…. yet will throw this man in prison for – most likely – a decade or more of his life, mainly for being in the wrong jurisdiction
Meanwhile, even in the comments, you’ll get lefties posturing about “racism”, and righties talking about how this dude is probably an illegal immigrant, and ‘why aint we deporting him’ etc., and perhaps only 1 or 2 out of 100 going, “Wait, why is this a crime at all”
And how much of that is going to end up being sold on the streets by Illinois cops.
will hand out permission slips for some people to produce this same product in similar bulk, just a few hours drive away
Where can I go just a few hours drive away from Illinois where they have these permission slips? Asking for a friend.
Ohio will be, I believe. But you gotta pay the weed franchise fee, which is like $500k.
Same thing applies with gun laws.
I was going to say this too.
And of course, anti-gun states will whine that the more liberal (as in “free”) gun laws of other states are causing their high crime rates. But in my view, if a jurisdiction makes something illegal and fails to stop it at their own border, that’s not the problem of other jurisdictions. Just like when Hillary claimed that the US needed to tighten gun laws because some of them were allegedly going to Mexico and being used in crimes (when of course, this was deliberate action on part of the criminal organization, BATFE). Even if that were true, why is that America’s problem? It’s not our duty to help other countries enforce their own stupid prohibitions.
“obvious hypocrisy of our legal system, which will hand out permission slips for some people to produce this same product”
Just like Gambling as well.
$450 an ounce? Is it really that expensive now?
Here’s the most likely response from progtards and conservotards.
Progtards: Tax and regulate!
Conservotards: But I have children!
That is essentially the conversation about the subject with my conservative parents.
Me: There is no reason pot should not be legal.
Mom: But the children!
Me: It’s still illegal for kids to buy dope mom. Just like booze and cigarettes.
Mom: But it is easier to get.
Me: It has always been easy to get. Remember that time you walked into my condo in 1985 and I was really concentrating on doing the dishes?
Bout $200/ounce (medical and black market prices) out here in Montucky. Was almost double that when I lived in the South. So no, they inflated the figures like crazy, especially as I’m sure there is more of a bulk discount when talking about pounds.
The Motor City Madman was first concert I ever saw. Great show. It was around 4th of July and someone set off firecrackers in crowd inside arena (This was almost 40 years ago, could you imagine would would happen today), Ted stops the show and admonishes the person then starts playing again. Happens against. Ted stops and yells Kick that MFers Ass and I could see across the arena some small mob just descending toward their center. Dumbass.
Look, you can stomp your feet and declare Jaws a great movie, but that doesn’t make it one. My kid sister was adamant that Bobby Sherman was the greatest living musician.
Truth: Spielberg is a hack. He has never made anything resembling a great movie. Jaws was so cliche and hack that SP spent the entire movie correctly predicting the next line and the next actions. “Why doesn’t he just grab a machete and cut the rope? Oh, there it is. No, you can’t penetrate its skin, you have to go into the mouth. Oh, there it is. ”
My sister, once grown up, gave a perfect review to Close Encounters. “There’s an hour of people staring into the sky. Richard Dreyfuss goes to a mountain. A chandelier drops onto the mountain. The Pillsbury Dough Boy gets out. Richard Dreyfuss and the Pillsbury Dough Boy get back in the chandelier. The chandelier flies away. People stare into the sky. The end.”
The only director who can be as reliably counted on to churn out derivative and predictable hack bullshit excuses for movies as Spielberg is Robert Zemeckis.
I thought (((you all))) got together like decades ago in one of (((your))) secret meetings and decided that Spielberg was beyond reproach?
We’re all busy people, with too much to do and a vanishingly small amount of time in which to do it, which is why I don’t watch many movies, and when pressed, resort to this resource, seemingly no longer updated.
I find the Jaws review somewhat persuasive.
I like their review of all David Lynch films done in one shot. It’s perfect.
Jaws is awesome, You just needed to be high sitting in a theater like everyone else who saw that movie when it came out. Close Encounters was boring and sucked, its like when is this movie going to be over. Why you gotta go hating on sissy’s dreamy heartthrob?
James Cameron?
This is so wrong I just can’t even.
Ooh, so it took the experienced seaman a second to grab a machete and cut a man free. How is that a cliche? It was a normal reaction to a dynamic situation and they portrayed it. Do you decry the moment in old naval war movies when the man yells fire and it’s followed by…::gasp::…a volley of cannon fire?
As for having to shoot it in its mouth, I doubt it was common knowledge for movie audiences then as it is now (because of Jaws, btw) that it’s harder to penetrate a shark’s skin.
The cliches you’re speaking about became cliche because people copied as much of Jaws as they could. Try and watch it through the eyes of someone from the 70s rather than someone who has probably seen a dozen ripoffs before they saw the original.
Could say much the same about Close Encounters.
It’s a shame how Tolkien got away with ripping off World of Warcraft.
lol
Shakespeare sure managed to stuff his plays full of cliches too.

Why can’t we get guys like Walter Williams running for President. Not that the stupid and ignorant masses would vote for him, but at least I could walk away from the voting booth with a chubby.
Trust me, the Libertarian Party has tried to recruit him to run.
Probably because anyone smart enough to get the likes of us excited about voting for them is also too smart to want to be president.
Where are our modern day Trustbusters?
On the other hand, Republicans and conservatives are wedded to free-market economics and are ideologically averse to intruding into the marketplace — even when they are often at odds with high-tech monopolies and sometimes targeted by them.
So much to dislike in this, I don’t even know where to start. Lay off the anti-business populism, and just talk about the good old days, when Californians were men, and their wimmen was glad of it.
Shorter NRO: Conservatives should be unprincipled when we tell them to!
It starts off with an absurd hyperbole and goes downhill from there. Zuckerberg doesn’t hold a candle to Rockefeller, Morgan, or Carnegie.
The reason tech isn’t regulated like other industries is because regulation stifles those industries. Some of them, like rail, to the point where they’re on life support. Some of them, like drugs, to the point where they’re dysfunctional messes that live and die at the whims of regulators. And some of them, like oil and power, are unable to meaningfully expand certain parts of their operations, producing bottlenecks that serve no one’s interests.
What is needed is some sort of bipartisan national commission that might dispassionately and in disinterested fashion offer guidelines to legislators about how to make sure that these companies do not abuse their enormous powers of surveillance and data acquisition, vast wealth, and monopolistic control of how we write, think, shop, and communicate — while ensuring that they can continue to offer the public what are now its daily necessities.
Sounds legit.
Now all we need is the right people to appoint the right people.
I’m trembling.
It’s not th value we should be concerned with, but rather their ability to control an incredible amount of personal information from finances to identification to private legal documents. They have the ability to manipulate almost anyone they want, individually or collectively, based on their personal or political leanings. That actually is a little concerning.
They can do it because they make integrating into it (identity management) so easy, and doing so yourself would be a pain. I don’t know why they should be punished for selling their product like that?
That actually is a little concerning.
Concerning how? For the people using those services? Yes, I’d say so.
For the government? Only so that they can start a crusade.

So what is it MSM? Last week, Trump was threatening a new arms race with Russia. Today, Chuck Todd of NBC is worried, with our allies, that Trump is being too soft on sanctions. I think if he called Russia “the new evil empire,” the usual suspects would call him a warmonger.
Whatever Trump is doing right at the moment is the problem. Did you know he puts ketchup on well done steak? What sort of monster are we talking about here?

On the subject of Jaws, Jaws: The Revenge is clearly the best of the series. Let’s recap:
-Characters who have flashbacks to scenes they weren’t even present for.
–A giant, perhaps even sentient shark that roars and can track a family of humans all the way to the Bahamas only to let itself get speared by a boat as it somehow projects itself out of the water for the awkward three minutes it takes for this to happen.
-They somehow roped Michael Caine into taking a role
–This scene.
Caine has a great quote about the movie. I’m probably misquoting it, but it’s along the lines of, “I’ve never seen *Jaws, the Revenge*. But I have seen the house it paid for, and that’s magnificent.”

Natalie Portman? I didn’t know she was one of (((them))). I don’t really follow stuff like that though because I don’t give a shit. I didn’t know Mila Kunas was either.
It’s almost like that ‘drop of blood’ thing.

SP and I have been binge-watching old episodes of I’ve Got A Secret. Myerson was not only a babe, she was bright and witty.
I was born in the state which (I’m fairly sure) contributed the most Miss Americas per capita, but I wanted to throw NY a bone.
GSN used to show a bunch of those old game shows – love ’em. And it was fun finally seeing her in the flesh after growing up and only knowing her as a punchline to numerous jokes on Match Game.
Funny, they don’t look Druish.
Mila Kunis ranked above Bar Rafaeli? I don’t think so.
Cleans up nice, but an un-pancaked Mila looks like a bulldog licking pee off a stinging nettle
A perennial running contender for “Stupidest motherfucker on the internet“, the ‘occasionally published in Reason magazine’, Noah Berlatsky:
I’ve read this twice, and i can glean no central logic other than, “if i can use my political clout to silence opposition, i will, because i am good and you are bad”
I’d say that pretty much sums it up.
That and plain old jealousy that Williamson got a sweet high paying gig and no one knows who the fuck he is.
I do. Williamson is one of my favorite columnists.
I meant nobody knows who Berlatsky is; and he’s pissed about that.
I need to watch my antecedents.
Shorter Noah:
Even MoJo is too Liberal for progressives like Berlatsky
And by “Liberal” i mean, they’re lefties, but they don’t routinely LIE as part of their quest for a leftier world
whereas the progressive media’s entire M.O. is to destroy any ‘facts’ which do not support the leftiest of possible universe. they’re not happy merely making the existing facts fit within their argument. they have to change the facts when needed.
*and what does that central logic – of, if i have the power to crush you, i will, because my majority-opinion makes me right? – sound familiar to? I think it starts with an “F” and ends with an “ism”
Facialism?
Fetishism?
Fisticism?
Just another common case of TDS. They’re all like this boring broken record with nothing of substance to say. Yet they seem to have the largest media platforms on the planet.
Yet they are the ones being oppressed.
I have mentioned maybe 3 times in the past week there is this growing, leftist-herd-judgement forming on twitter …
…that Stephen Pinker, Sam Harris, Haidt, Peterson, etc all have to be destroyed. Its because they don’t have Milo anymore.
Everyone agreed Milo was a Nazi! But too many ‘centrists’ seem influenced by these smart, credible, well-reasoning people who push back against the hegemony of the hard-left.
So now they’re nazis too. It was inevitable. SJW’s dont feel like they have any purpose unless they’re mobbing up for a witch-hunt. Having witch-hunts reminds themselves, ‘we’re the good ones!” Oh, you disagree!? SMASH KILL SMASH all over twitter.
the last 2 weeks or so has mostly been about “gun control”, but in the background there’s been this moaning about people like Bari Weiss and Brett Stevens @ NYT, and now Kevin Williamson @ Atlantic, and the mob is restless and angry and is starting to demand that “this is too much! We can’t ‘give’ the opposition MORE of a platform! We’re supposed to be *winning*! this doesn’t look like winning”
But they seem to realize that they can’t get these otherwise lefty-rags to fire people. But they CAN demonize academics! so they’ve shifted their gears to destroying people outside of the media.
Harris is the current target du-jour, for disagreeing with Ezra Klein’s smearing him as a racist. Now, anyone who agrees with harris is subject to outing as a crypto-nazi

Of course, America’s culture war might not be so rancourous in the first place if there were any promise of inter-generational economic mobility for black men, – well it is important to know why that is the case
if women weren’t expected to individually fund their higher health expenses – well if they have a family they will not individually finance those. and if they don’t why should others finance them ?
Is there a mainstream news source which is not a tabloid? Why does Financial Times publish this shit (yes I know why form clicks I gave em one)
And they’re convincing corporate Ameruca to pull ad funding from anyone they disagree with as well.

A little while ago, Meet the Press played a Martin Luther King clip in which he talked about civil disobedience. The punch line was, “…and be willing to gladly accept the consequences.”
I swear I heard a million SJW warriors’ voices cry out in fear and anguish and denial.
Sitting a few miles from the Lorraine as I usually do on Sunday mornings, I’ll make the observation on here again: the half-asses that think their political heritage goes back to Selma, Greensboro, and Memphis couldn’t carry John Lewis’s jockstrap. BLM recently blocked our new bridge to draw attention to their agenda; I completely understand that tactic, but I don’t understand why they didn’t spend the week in jail for it.

Happy Easter! I am trying French macaroons again (cinnamon with pear butter filling). Last time I didn’t fold the batter enough. This time, maybe too much plus CRACKS! Dammit! I will master this eventually.
I would be happy to eat all of your macaroon mistakes.
Cinnamon and pear butter sounds pretty amazing.
I will master this eventually.
That is the fun in cooking imho. I have never made and or eaten a macaroon that I remember. I am not much of a baker unless it is bread. What is this pear butter you speak of?
Yeah, took me many tries to get egg foo yung the way I wanted. It was actually when I tried to do a healthier version and replaced some of the whole eggs with whites that the texture turned out the way I wanted. Lucked out.
Macaroons are meringue and ground almond cookies. The pear butter is from my sister’s pears. Think apple butter made with pears.
Good luck. You are truly doing God’s work. Cinnamon and pear butter. Yumm!!!

Happy Easter, Glibs!
My kids are questioning the existence of the Easter Bunny… I think it’s time to tell them the truth about their benefactor: https://glibertarians.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/avatar_user_4_1487521381-170×148.jpg
My wife’s cousin married a Canadian. She was visting with their young son one Easter weekend. Our kids were older so we didn’t have any colored eggs so I hid bananas and convinced him Easter morning that in America we don’t have the Easter Bunny, we have the Easter monkey who hides bananas. Even though I sensed initial skepticism we did the hard sell and he bought it. Actually had him going for a couple of years.
That is awesome… So fun molding little minds!
Enjoy the play.

Jaws could not have been worse than whatever movie I just watched. Something with Matt Damon and a bunch of Chinese people fighting lizards. Now, that was bad.
I thought Leaving Las Vegas was one if the worst movies I’ve ever seen even though I like Cage and Shue. Movie did nothing for me.
Leaving Las Vegas? It wasn’t bad for what they were going for. I prefer Barfly. Worst movie for me was Frozen.
Just let it go man.
Nice.
Would Elsa.
Being somewhat of a self aware drunk with just slightly more than a smidgen of self control, Leaving Las Vegas hit some personal points with me. I haven’t seen it in years but I remember thinking, “Hell, I could do that.”

A HORRIFYING street battle between 60 men armed with machetes and metal pipes forcing a state of emergency to be declared in Duisburg.
Police were called to the Altmarkt area of the city over reports of the mass bawl. Officers used CS gas to control the brawling men.
The scores of men were also using telescopic batons in the fight in Druisburg, which is on the west of Germany.
Police said they were spat at and had objects hurled at them.
Around 50 people were arrested and onlookers captured the brutality in shocking photos….
A police official told the newspaper Der Westen: “There are three rival groups. It may be a conflict between Turks, Lebanese and Kurds….

Heroin production, arms smuggling, kidnappings; the Taliban funds its ongoing war in Afghanistan with a wide range of illegal activities, putting its war-footing fund-raising ahead of any moral, or indeed religious, concerns.
A less obvious, but still lucrative, source of revenue has been brought to light by the Institute For War & Peace Reporting (IWPR): pistachio farming.
An IWPR investigation into Afghanistan’s pistachio forests have found that armed gangs and Taliban fighters control the vast majority of nut production, earning millions of dollars each year, which is then put towards fighting U.S., coalition and Afghan forces….The Taliban favor these nuts as they do not require cultivation.
***
Great. DiCrapio is gonna go on about blood pistachios and get a requirement to microcode each one.
Well, something’s pinging my spideysense with that article. They’re called ‘orchards’ and pistachio farming is a bit more intensive than – say – coconut cultivation.

The trees are planted in orchards, and take approximately seven to ten years to reach significant production. Production is alternate-bearing or biennial-bearing, meaning the harvest is heavier in alternate years. Peak production is reached around 20 years. Trees are usually pruned to size to make the harvest easier.

Twitter will suspend people who use incorrect *pronouns*, but you can say pretty much whatever you want as long as it meets the woke-criteria.

+1 Rorke’s Drift.
That is some Grade-A trolling.
She used a picture from “black panther” to make her point (zing) about spears
Yeah, I’m inclined to call it a less-obvious Godfrey Elfwick con. Scrolling back through her last several tweets, she might genuinely be a bigot, or whoever is running the account is just tweeting and retweeting the most hamfisted woke crap in circulation. I’m inclined to think the latter in any event, since racialists are self-parodying even when genuine, but in this case, the tweets are so absurd and on the nose that I don’t think any serious black separatists/supremacists would give it their time. It’d be like Richard Spencer trafficking in Jesus Arm-wrestling Hillary Clinton memes.
i’m open to your interpretation.
i think my observation is unchanged, tho. whether parody or not: if you said something similar, but swapped the white/black role, you’d be perma-banned from twitter instantly.
whereas you can say kooky SJW horseshit, and you dont’ even merit a blink.
Oh, for sure. Which is why the Elfwick routine is so insidious for the left: it lampoons their ideology, exposes their bigotries, is difficult to distinguish from the real article, and ironically, gets the imprimatur from platforms that instantly blacklist anyone on the right for much less. And when they do catch on to the fact that they’re being parodied in their own house, what is their response? To ban the jester for mocking the king and thereby proving themselves censorious, joyless scolds.
Lefties have a term for that sort of thing, which they insist on misusing… and I can’t think of it right now. I suffer terminal word blindness. But it’s the idea that some bit of performative art helps to undermine the prevailing bourgeois culture. Except they use it to describe routine white-bashing or male-bashing or anticapitalist drivel that has lost its shock value because the left long ago won its crusade through the arts and media and education. The only culture worth undermining anymore is their own. So they grow sclerotic and censorious and end up looking like prune-faced biddies when anyone without their stick-up-the-ass sensibilities pokes fun at their shitty ideology.
Subversion, god damn it. What the hell is your trans-queer-Muslim-socialist spectacle subverting, sweetheart? You’re on a campus surrounded by fellow progressives who are tripping over themselves to laud your performance. Thank God for student healthcare, ‘cuz y’all might break an arm patting yourselves on the back so hard.
She’s referring to “Black Panther”, right?
“you can say pretty much whatever you want as long as it meets the woke-criteria”
They’ve been on an orgy of blue-check revoking and banning for wrongthink ever since they got up the courage to do it to Milo. Once the seal was broken, it’s been constant. As I’ve said before, I don’t care, it’s a private company. The proper response is to switch to GAB, just like the proper response to Facebook, Google et. al. is to switch to an alternative and/or try to found an alternative. These Silicon Valley giants are a lot more vulnerable than they think they are and alienating large swaths of the population and hurting their own credibility is not a good long term business plan.
Better yet, quit the medium altogether. It’s weaponized cancer.
Yeah, the Spartans are generally considered white and they considered arrows to be the coward’s weapon.
The Romans used ranged weapons, but they considered the short stabbing sword to be the most reliable way of killing in battle.
Meanwhile, the swarthy Mongols spent about 200 years rampaging across Asia as they showered their enemies with volleys of arrows.
I bet this lady thinks David a coward for killing Goliath with a ranged weapon.

Why Focusing on People of Color Will Help the Movement for Gun Control Succeed
Discussions of gun violence and the regulations needed to curb it are incomplete unless they include an analysis of how racism plays a role.
https://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/why-focusing-people-color-will-help-movement-gun-control-succeed

Any discussions of gun violence and the regulations needed to curb it are incomplete unless they include an analysis of how racism plays a role. Government data show that “black Americans are, on average, eight times more likely to be killed by firearms than those who are white.” Gun violence by police against ordinary Americans also disproportionately affects people of color
…
Black journalist Jason Johnson, who attended the rally and march in D.C., published an account of it in The Root, titled “Yes, the March for Our Lives Was About Black People, Too—and It’s About Time.” Johnson lauded the Parkland students’ decision to use their privilege to broaden their struggle. “If you have to wrap some Black Lives Matter rhetoric in L.L.Bean and Lululemon in order to get some press coverage and meaningful change, I’m all for it,” he wrote, adding that the speaker list offered a “seamless organic integration of black perspectives and black lives.”
***
Hey alternet- have you ever wondered why black people get shot more? Perhaps you could do some analysis on who, what, where, when of those shootings. Maybe a pattern would emerge.
““black Americans are, on average, eight times more likely to be killed by firearms than those who are white”
Exactly true. And much of that happens in highly gun controlled urban centers. Perhaps if such laws were relaxed and allowed law abiding citizens to carry, there would be fewer deaths.
And somewhat more than 8 times as likely to be killed by another black man especially when the murder is in a large city.
It’s astonishing and incomprehensible, all at the same time
68% of US homicides occur in 5% of the counties

One of the most interesting findings in the report is that areas with the highest gun ownership rates have low murder rates.
***
Well knock me over with a feather
An examination of the history of gun control would be helpful, too.
Freighting our movement with racialist garbage that alienates otherwise sympathetic moderates is sure to win this time!
I’ve actually seen a huge uptick of black people getting into guns as a sport and for defense over the last decade. A lot more at the range. Theres’s more people in general but that definately includes black people, many who are becoming staunch 2nd Amendment supporters. Just like the Parkland thing, the media media only ways to tell the story if the handful that have authoritarian views. I used to be one of a handful at the range, now your lucky if you don’t have to wait and that’s with way more ranges in the city than we’ve ever had.
I’ve noticed the same exact thing.
Then again, it’s possible that gun culture has had appeal across all racial groups but the media just puts out this narrative that it’s only old racist wypipo.
I would guess that if you live in an inner-city area with a lot of crime, you might be motivated to legally arm yourself for self-defense.
“Johnson lauded the Parkland students’ decision to use their privilege to broaden their struggle. ”
I.e it’s not privilege when they agree with me.
“Guitar Center, the nation’s leading musical-instrument retailer, is in trouble. Changing musical tastes are partly to blame.
Ratings agency S&P Global downgraded Westlake Village-based Guitar Center Holdings Inc. for the second time last week as the troubled instrument retailer seeks to refinance and restructure more than $1 billion of debt.
“Most of what’s really selling today is rap and hip hop,” said George Gruhn, owner of the Gruhn Guitars shop in Nashville. “That’s outpacing other forms of music and they don’t use a lot of recognizable musical instruments.”
The instrument is also facing an identity crisis. Guitar heroes – who have inspired many a player and fueled strong instrument sales – are few and far between these days, according to Gruhn.
“Rock is almost dead,” he said. “It’s almost nonexistent. And with guitar there’s no almost one to look up to anymore – no one to get you to want to learn. I have three or four guitar students who are about 12 to 14 years old, and I told one of them she should find someone in her class to play guitar with. She said, ‘No one else plays the guitar, and people think I’m weird because I do.’ ””

GC sucks. Sweetwater is the place to buy gear.
“Sweetwater is the place to buy gear”
it is. but they’ve always been mostly-skewed towards the professional end of the market, not the ‘budding young-teen dabbler’.
iow, they mostly sell high-end recording equipment to studios. afaik, they can’t provide the advice+ support to the average ignoramus parent trying to buy some ‘starter instrument’ for their 10-12 yr old kid. that was always the provenance of your ‘local music store’.
I bought Spawn2 a Jazz bass last year and I was shocked at the level of attention and follow up I got from them. Even for a simple guitar purchase.
that’s good to hear. i suppose they’re expanding and picking up the slack from the collapse of the sam ash/guitar center segment of the market.
re: “Count Potato ”
maybe i wasn’t clear; what i mean was they’ve always had a “pro-audio” (not professional) bent; i.e. “recordists” more than ‘instruments’.
with maybe a caveat that they also always had a strong basis in computer-audio/midi stuff
(the founder originally built the company as a service/support for Kurzweil keyboards sales and the custom program-libraries he created for those units)
basically, they stayed away from the traditional territory of the sam ash/guitar center types. if they’ve added it now, i think its because the former are failing so badly, and they’re just filling gaps.
in my experience, one other aspect of sweetwater has been their good service – but higher list prices. they tended to always sell things closer to MSRP than you’d get in a retail store. I bought my sampler from them because i could order it with the specific add-on i/o cards + installed storage that i thought i needed at the time, whereas if i bought a unit in a store, i’d have had to take it as-is, and upgrade it myself (and upgrade costs tended to be more expensive than just ‘getting everything at once’)
While they’ve added more high-end gear over the years, Sweetwater has always targeted the “prosumer” home studio market. And they still sell lots of cheap crap. They’ve always provided advice and support for starter keyboard/MIDI stuff. Then they added “real” instruments like guitars.
In my opinion, the problem with buying something like a guitar from a website, is that you can’t physically try it out before you buy it.
budding young-teen dabbler
Not to be confused with diddlers.
Guitar Center should have changed its name 15 years ago to “Producer Emporium” or whatever.
But they were stupid.
My point isn’t about trends in music, but just that they’re bad businesspeople if they didn’t recognize what direction music was going in over 20 years ago. Guitar and amp sales are in decline and “computer based production” has been booming for 2 decades.
I have played guitar since i was 12. I bought my first sampler in 1997. I’ve spent $1000s on music equipment in the last 20 years; only a tiny fraction of it was ‘guitar’ related
(*tho boutique pedals are a booming industry, imo; there’s so many now its absurd. There may be fewer guitar players, but those fewer have lots of options in how to play)
the article misses the point, basically. music is ALWAYS going through these sorts of shifts. the reason GC sucks is because they’re bad at running a business, not because of changes in the music-making culture.
fwiw, i think people like Apple, Amazon, have more to do with their decline than ‘changing trends in guitar-playing’.
My internal Monroe LA-5 went into high gear and I came up with the conclusion that a billion in debt is a fuck-ton of debt for a retail operation like Guitar Center.
That’s colossally bad management.
They bought a bunch of companies I think, including manufacturing. I know they own Simmons.
I bought my HD18 from George and am wearing a Gruhn tee this very second. Go see ’em: they’ll treat you like a king.
Definitely not a man bites dog story.
I posted that last night. I titled it, “Minnesoda Horny”
Well, Crookston is a lot closer to you than to me, so I shouldn’t be surprised you got the news first. And yeah, Minnesoda Horny in Crookston is a hard disease to cure. All they have up there are some sugar beets and sugar beet farmers.
Did you see the Minnesoda Crazy story?
It’ll be posted twice on Sunday.
One of the most interesting findings in the report is that areas with the highest gun ownership rates have low murder rates.
But- MUH NARRATIVE!
I have it on good authority: more gunz = more death!
Nobody’s going to shoot people in their own backyard if they think their victims might shoot back, right? So they go to the places with gun control to prey on peaceful, unarmed citizens. All those backwoods white trash redneck gun-heavy counties are exporting their violence to the inner cities so they can hunt blacks with impunity. DUH.
“Alt-Right Furries Are Raging Online, And Leftist Furries Wonder What Is To Be Done
“Trump’s election has for sure surged the influx of alt-right furries in the fandom,” Ayala the Deer, an asexual artist, writer and fursuiter who does not identify as Fur Right, told HuffPost. “There have always been alt-right furs, they’re just more vocal now due to the election. Any fandom that’s as open as us are always going to have bad eggs. We accept everyone and anyone, which is a good and very bad thing.”
“The furry ‘community’ is a fandom that has been overrun by liberal ‘tolerance’ and ‘acceptance’ and as a result it’s become sanctuary to hardcore paedophiles and people with serious mental problems,” the unnamed author of Nazi furry erotica “The Furred Reich” told The New Statesman, which has been doggedly covering the Alt-Furry scene for years.
The core furry community, then, finds itself in quite the bind: Can a group founded upon the idea of consummate tolerance embrace a clique that’s so staunchly intolerant?”

okm this has got to be parody. And a good one at that as I laughed
“they’re just more vocal now due to the election”
So people feel more free to say what they think now that they know that they are not alone after years of media propaganda telling them that they were. The horror. That’s why the left is so outraged.
Uffda. We need to learn from our kids when it comes to guns. Especially this Minnesoda girl.
Great article. Great kid.
We’re a fucked up state in a lot of ways, but there are a lot of chicks like her out of the urban centers.
Yep. The Minnesoda I know, the Northwest corner, is full of great, down to earth people. The only major flaw a lot of them have is being Gopher fans.

Students at Florida high school stage walkout in support of Second Amendment

“I’m pro-Second Amendment,” Rockledge junior and protest organizer Anna Delaney told the station. “I wouldn’t mind deeper background checks, of course, but the Second Amendment will not be infringed upon.”
Many Rockledge students walked out of class March 14 as part of the National School Walkout that was held in support of the Parkland school shooting victims and to protest gun violence and call for new gun control measures. They stood on the football field and formed a huge heart.
About 75 students participated in Friday’s walkout at Rockledge, Florida Today reported. The protest lasted 20 minutes.
They walked onto the schools track carrying the American flag and signs that said “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” and “I support the right to bear arms,” the paper reported. Some wore Trump “Make America Great Again” hats and camouflage clothing.
“We were built on certain rights and that was one of the original rights, that we should have the right to bear arms,” sophomore Chloe Deaton told the group. She helped Delaney organize the walkout.
Zachary Schneider, a junior, was quoted by the paper as saying, “It’s all over the news right now that all students hate guns. I wanted to show that not all students feel that way.”

SMH. Unfortunately, that’s not uncommon among supposed 2A supporters.
In a nation where it’s easy to break the law without even knowing it, accepting background checks as a precondition to being allowed to exercise your 2A rights is pretty foolish..
Especially when preregistration requirements or showing an ID to exercise your right to vote is seen as an infringement.
If a tree falls in the woods with no one around…
Obviously, othing going on right now is about what or how students actually feel. The media doesn’t give a shit about that. Pro-2nd students have been muzzled from the get go. Pro-2nd victims? Irrelevant. The JROTC students, for instance? Do you think the majority of them would support Hogg? Some might agree, but my own hunch is fuck no.
Let’s juxtapose the actions of the “hero” Hogg on the day of the shooting with one of those jROTC students:
“Guitar Center, the nation’s leading musical-instrument retailer, is in trouble. Changing musical tastes are partly to blame.
Ratings agency S&P Global downgraded Westlake Village-based Guitar Center Holdings Inc. for the second time last week as the troubled instrument retailer seeks to refinance and restructure more than $1 billion of debt.
Gibson is circling the drain, as well.
Jaws was a good flick. The book was better, it had sex in it.
Tuscan Viognier? You should be ashamed.
Itt was everyhting you’d expect and less. But the guy who recommended it was pretty reliable. Ah well.
Have you seen the price of Condrieu recently? Holy shit. Even entry-level Guigal negociant stuff is like $60 a bottle. Any of the stuff you and I used to drink is through the roof.
I’ve got one bottle of Cosme’ Condrieu. And yeah, it was $64.
So one of the main craft brewers in Bucharest Ground Zero had a 3 year anniversary party yesterday for which they made a triple ipa. It is really not bad, pretty intense taste good flavor lotsa hops. But damn 11% is to much alcohol for beer.
There’s a beer that’s 60% ABV.

Beer lovers beware: Here is a challenge you might not want to take on. A beer called Snake Venom (dreamed up, perhaps in a nightmare) by the U.K. brewing company Brewmeister, is now apparently the world’s strongest beer, with an ABV of 67.5 percent. For reference, most liquor, like vodka and whiskey, have an ABV of about 40 percent.
The English barley beer is too alcoholic to be carbonated, another distinguishing characteristic from basically every other beer on the planet.
“The liquid is too dense and therefore it cannot hold the bubbles in the same way a standard beer can,” a spokesperson for Brewmeister told Thrillist.

My guess is they use freezing to separate out the alcohol. They wouldn’t be able to call it beer if they distilled it.
fun fact: the process of separating alcohol by freezing was known since the 7th century and is also known as the Mongolian still.
I preferred Frank Gallagher’s name for it – Milk of the Gods.
Meh that is a gimmick though not a beer meant for wide consumption.
I thought separating alcohol by freezing was jacking – like apple jack
I also thought it could be slightly dangerous because freeze distillation doesn’t remove the fusel oils and methanol… Or at the very least, it would produce something that would give you the hangover from hell.
Something something altered the deal
Coca-Cola Co thought it had a deal with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service on how much the company charged foreign affiliates for the rights to make and sell Coke products abroad.
Then in September 2015 a letter from the IRS arrived at Coca-Cola’s Atlanta headquarters with a bill for back taxes whose amount, $3.3 billion, stunned the world’s No. 1 soft drinks maker.
———–
The IRS contends that Coca-Cola charged several foreign affiliates royalties that were too low from 2007 to 2009, which reduced the parent company’s U.S. income and resulted in underpayment of its U.S. income taxes by $3.3 billion.
Tax agencies often challenge transfer pricing arrangements on the grounds that they are set up to minimize income in high-tax countries and maximize it in low-tax countries.
Under a Base Erosion and Profit Shifting framework set up by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2016, one hundred national tax agencies including the IRS expect companies to use an “arm’s length” approach to transfer pricing.
Must be Trump’s fault.
End extraterritoriality taxation. Problem solved.
shouldn’t the IRS have done something within 3 to 5 years of the issue? Didn’t think you could get audited 10 years after the fact – or is it different for corporate stuff?

Certainly in the West, Christianity is dying and nothing is going to resuscitate it. Not Oprah, and not Jordan Peterson. I’m not sure how anyone can attribute that kind if clout to them unless they’re just holding on to straws. Seems like even the Pope is doing his best to kill off God. Can’t blame (((them))) this time around.

Current Affairs.

I look forward to entering Mexico next month without papers or approval. I can just exit the plane and go to my hotel without waiting in line or passing the time share gauntlet, right? That’s what I’m getting from the article.
I have a hard time understanding the mindset of someone who believes that guns ownership should be tightly controlled, but that the movement of people across borders must be totally uncontrolled.
They must have gotten brain damage from listening to the song “Imagine” too many times.
Borders exist for the same reason houses have doors with locks.
Third time’s the charm. After making a few tweaks I finally got perfect results in my new stainless-steel frying pan. No sticking, perfect browning. Yesterday, I managed to both undercook and burn some potatoes and was ready to throw the fucking thing in the garbage.
What was the trick?
Less heat and more oil.
The only stainless steel pan I have is my sauce pan. The rest are cast iron or non-stick although I do have an enamel coated cast iron dutch oven.
NEEDZ MOAR TOP DOWN
Today, states are still free to set their own standards as long as they meet some vague definition of “college and career-ready.” Districts can intervene in low-performing schools or evaluate teachers based on any criteria they set, close or open new schools as they see fit, and define accountability any way they like as long as it meets the floor set by the state.
Despite all this flexibility, the promise of local control fails to deliver. Instead, local control offers a legacy of racial segregation, funding inequity and academic mediocrity.
In every important metric of success from student achievement to access to rigorous classes to high school and college completion, stubborn racial and economic gaps remain. The plain fact is that local control and quality control rarely go hand-in-hand.
Thanks to local control, school systems remain overly dependent on property taxes for funding, which guarantees they will never be funded equally. Wealthy communities will always have more; poor communities will always have less.
Local control is just a smokescreen for racial and economic segregation. Nationalize the school system!
