How did you do with your goals this week?
On the plus side, I have somehow managed to stay mostly plant-based while in Del Boca Vista, through the simple method of insisting Webdom or I cook every meal. Unlike her son, my MIL is completely not fussy and will eat anything put in front of her, unless it’s too spicy. (Hmm…I wonder if she’s also UCS’s (((Mom))).) So it’s working out OK.
On the negative side, I’ve consumed vast quantities of wine. Like, you know, a metric fuckton of bottles of wine. OMWC’s Mom has some memory issues, which is to be expected if one is old enough to be the parent of an Old Man. Happily, she is a very sweet lady whom I love, so, while also challenging, it’s mostly sad. But sad enough that I need Coping Wine. Even Webdom, who is not a notable drinker, is imbibing nightly.
How did you do? Wait, what? I’m the only one still doing this??????
I’ve added steaming to my post workout routine. I’ve noticed more people using the sauna. Glib fit survey: Sauna or Steam room?
Sauna, strictly because it’s more fun to say, especially since I can’t help but do it in a terrible Finnish accent.
Sauna’s more effective at lowering your sperm count because of the higher raw temperature.
My sperm count is already zero. I like sweating out my toxins.
I’ve added steaming to my post workout routine.
Phrasing?
This makes me picture something to do with Cleveland.
Gwyneth had something to say about that.
http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/gwyneth-paltrow-women-steam-vaginas-article-1.2096571
I’d steam her, well you know.
Never stick it in crazy.
Either. Both. One and then the other. And then the first one again.
Very insightful
Well look who has all the post workout time in the world…
Lol! I used to. I don’t have a gym membership since we bought a rack.
The sauna, steam room, and Jacob’s ladder are the only things I miss.
My antisocial side makes me want to get a home rack, my wanting to make others uncomfortable with my nudity keeps me in the gym.
I know that feeling. It was a lot of fun stretching in the co-ed sauna (in workout clothes or a swimsuit, though).
Here’s a fun trick: use a penis pump right before going so it’s temporarily inflated to cartoonish proportions then saunter around the locker room attracting awkward stares.
https://goo.gl/images/5R9CA6
I choose to think you mean your outie belly button.
Always cool off after either with a cold shower or icing, particularly before bed. Helps keep inflammation down.
Oh yeah. I row 5K, Steam for 15, then cold shower. Really gets my mind right for wok.
I do the steam room. Then again, that is because after a hard workout it helps with all the one broken bones and bad joints I have that are aching after a hard workout. Follow it with a cold shower so I can avoid temptation for a few hours of the early morning.
I’m thinking about building a wood-fired sauna in the next couple of years. Converting a bathroom to a steam room seems like a huge pain in the ass.
If you build a sauna by hand, chopping down your own logs, I would award you 1 million man points.
Not much cedar on my acreage unfortunately.
1. Get an axe
2. Steal a truck
3. Drive to the great northwest
4. Profits
Now that I’m off the diuretic that I was on for my BP, I don’t pass out in a sauna. I’ve finally discovered why people like them. Glad my gym has one in the locker room.
Both.
I’ve added steaming to my post workout routine.
NOBODY SAID PAGING JESSE!?
Steam room. Probably for different reasons than the rest of you.
They let you down. Have a roofiecolada and take a nap…
Hmmm. A roofiecolada sounds perfect right now.
♬♬♬ Do you like roofiecolada? Or getting caught in the rain? ♬♬♬
“Wait, what? I’m the only one still doing this??????”
No, I ate some salad with my pizza yesterday. Not healthy enough?
Ok, fine. I’m just here to look at Q’s post
Real pizza or Chicago Tomato Pie? (Which I would so eat right now. With lots of wine.)
“Real pizza or Chicago Tomato Pie?”
E tu, SP? Don’t go all Uncivil
But, it was cardboard pizza
Sadly, I’d even eat that at this point. No pizza for weeks. We almost stopped at a coal-fired place yesterday, but parking was an issue and we didn’t feel like dealing with it.

Well done
Nice box…
I had to switch to https. SP runs a tight ship around here.
Hawt
Outstanding!
Down to 185 in spite of not being able to work out through a rigorous regimen of starvation.
So, the Auschwitz Diet.
Pretty much.
No breakfast.
Slim Jim for lunch.
Canned green beans and 3 string cheeses for dinner.
I can tell you, it works!
That sounds miserable and unhealthy.
Miserable – not after the first week
Unhealthy – probably, but that’s for future Q to worry about
Man I don’t envy that guy
for future Q to worry about-
Basically my motto.
Same here.
“So you say R C will pay for this later? Well, that’s future R C’s problem. Fuck that guy, anyway. What has he ever done for me?”
Mine’s kinda the opposite “God damn it, I don’t want to do this now, but it’ll be such a nice gift for future jesse”
Your poop must be a thing of horrid wonder.
Defecation is my proudest accomplishment.
I don’t know if this is serious or a joke, but dude, you need to get at least 1500 calories in you a day.
http://ratfactor.com/fat-loss-calculator#maxloss
some of the links expired, but you can find the primary resources from other places.
It works like a charm.
I just have to slam heroic amounts of coffee to keep from falling asleep at work.
Doing week 3 of P90X and eating better.
Starting to notice I have more energy and my jeans aren’t quite as tight around the waist.
On the eating front, I do miss my daily grilled cheese and Cherry Coke after work, but other than that it’s not too bad.
I am eating smaller meals 6-7 times a day, so I’m not hungry, but if I don’t get to eat on time, i get HANGRY quick.
Woohoo for more energy!
(And, yes, I miss grilled cheese!)
The fun part about P90x is when you start quoting the videos in daily conversation. That’s when you know you’re fully immersed.
German Potato Soup…..
…when you know you’re fully immersed
I thought that was when someone murdered you for turning into an insufferable douche?
NOW ITS TIME FOR CRUNCHY FROG
*crosses hands into an X*
Speed is not your friend
Nobody said it was easy
I’ve been 90% on track with keeping to the lifting schedule – less so in keeping to the diet. *eyes pineapple upside-down cake in oven*
Strength is good! So is pineapple upside-down cake, in moderation.
6 days, 12 cigs, I feel better every day
I take it this is a reduction from your previous rate.
I’m down from a pack/20 a day, so Yep it’s a great improvement
Good for you Yusef.
? Keep going.
Wow, that’s great!
Nice
Good job, Yusef! Be strong, dude!
Congratulations, Yusef!
Skied two days this week- Tues and Wed. I was pretty stiff (and not in a good way) yesterday morning.
I’ve never been a downhill skier. Seems scary. And expensive. Did cross country a few times in my youth, but mostly stuck with snowshoes.
On the negative side, I’ve consumed vast quantities of wine.
Somebody’s scoring scale works a lot different than mine.
It’s only negative if you have to work the next day
A) It’s not been the most delicious wine compared to the home cellar; B) I don’t want to tally the calories, especially because A.
I just got higher than a rooftop and went for a 10 mile run. Well, actually two 5 mile runs interrupted by 6 sets of hill sprints. I’m still high.
I’ve always stood in awe of people who can exercise high/drunk. Good on ya.
exercising drunk is painful and i don’t recommend it. i played a summer lax game shitfaced (still scored a goal!) and was in absolute agony after every sprint. i had a teammate who would play stoned and he said it was no problemo.
Do you notice any difference in heart rate while running between high and not high?
High – “I look great in these teeny running shorts and tank top”
Not High – “I hope I don’t see anyone I know”
I always look good when I’m running. Look good, feel good. Feel good, get shit done.
I don’t notice a difference in heart rate. But I do tend to wave at squirrels and seagulls more when I’m high.
Does the running suppress the junk food cravings from getting high?
OK I have never understood this. Booze gives me the munchies far more than any other intoxicant. I always figured it was due to the effect alcohol has on blood sugar.
I have spent many a post wine drinking session in front of an open fridge at midnight sampling nearly everything in the fridge.
^^^This. I also get wicked hungry when I’m hungover. Though I’ve pretty much cut out all alcohol because it does not fit with my Auschwitz diet.
I rekt my mouth on some mini pizza bagels when I was drunk.
I do not partake, so I’m just going on observation of others. But, yes, drinking will definitely sharpen appetite for me.
Second that emotion…
#metoo
Drinking kills my appetite.
But I drink high calorie beer.
If I drank a G&T, I’d probably put away a whole large pizza by myself. And maybe some wings.
Luckily, even growing up I wasn’t a junk food guy. In our house, “junk food” is sliced cheeses, salami/deli slices, pickles, nuts, hard boiled eggs.
For dinner tonight I’m making a stew. Bacon, pork cutlets, Italian sausage braised in my homemade broth, white wine, a little beer. With carrots, celery, onion, cabbage, parsley, mushroom, tomatoes. Topped with a cheddar crisp.
Bourbon and branch water. And a nice Taylor Fladgate port with dessert, sliced green apple with raisins.
That all sounds delicious.
I think we’re just doing vegan tacos and rice. Your dinner sounds better.
If I ate that, I would instantly gain 30 pounds. Just thinking of eating that much makes me feel a bit ill.
It’s a hearty, meaty stew. Makes six servings. The wife and I will eat 2, then I freeze four portions. Two more easy dinners.
Which bourbon?
Cheap. Evan Williams with Perrier.
I picked up a bottle of Kirkland’s brand. Haven’t cracked it yet, but I’ve generally liked their stuff.
The Kirkland booze I’ve had was always pretty good. Great for mixing. There’s a good chance Evan Williams or Beam makes Kirkland. I should pick up a bottle. I can tell by tasting it. Maybe robc would know?
Googled it. https://insiderlouisville.com/business/retail-business/costcos-private-label-bourbon-wait-say-costco/#mobile-menu
Very interesting. Thanks!
Trader Joe’s house label bourbon is pretty good.
Comes in a really nice bottle too.
Bottled by Buffalo Trace, but made at their Barton’s distillery.
I’m pretty stoked. I was able to score a Rogue Monster-Lite rack with safety straps and spotter arms for about half the cost of new off of craigslist this week.
I wasn’t going to buy one until summer, but I checked online on a whim and found it about 30 minutes away. Talked dude down a couple hundo more than asking and now the thing is in my guest room. Going to the garage after some spring cleaning.
Looks rugged AF.
Definitely overkill for my purposes.
I’m pretty stoked. I was able to score a Rogue Monster-Lite rack with safety straps and spotter arms for about half the cost of new off of craigslist this week.
Nice.
I just got back here from a week in the UK, so I lost some weight due to the utter lack of food that appeared appetizing. One can only eat so much fish-n-chips.
You didn’t make it up in beer?
Apparently not.
Did you make the mistake of ordering bacon there?
What about milkshakes? Who in the fuck doesn’t put ice cream in a banana milkshake?
No bacon. Plenty of terrible sandwiches. Fitting, given they invented the sandwich.
OT: Get my new dumbphone today since my old one finally crapped out. I considered not replacing it at all, but what I always knew would happen, happened; I am now hopelessly dependent on this stupid piece of tech. Privacy violation and tracking aside, this is why I refuse to get a smartphone. The last thing I need is another artificial “need” in my life.
Too bad he was a murderous psycho because Industrial Society and its Future is a pretty damn good read.
I just got a hair cut, so that was probably like quarter pound lost while just sitting there. It had gotten quite lengthy.
/SP scurries to make an appointment for a haircut
Finally starting to add some weight to the big four lifts. I’ve spent the last ~6 months lifting the same weights, trying to really dial in my form. Warty has watched my videos and made some corrections*, but they’re relatively minor so I’m confident adding weight.
I just want to be able to deadlift and squat twice my body weight and overhead and bench press my body weight. Is that too much to ask…without roids?
*gently
Just don’t hurt yourself. You don’t want to be me.
Oh, I’m very careful. I’ve seen enough lifting fails–snapping tendons, incorrect bails, etc–to not want that to be me, for sure!
Did you start deadlifting at 135? Or did you start lower with a special bar/plates/blocks?
Thankfully, even 10 pounds bumper plates put the bar in the right spot. I’d have to look over my log book to see exactly where I started, but if I had to guess… Maybe started at 95 pounds?
Considering you weigh like, what, 85 pounds? No worries!
Oh my gosh! You 😉 I’m a very dense 135-140.
Slow and consistent and you’ll do it. Even those days you are feeling like Supergirl, stick with the program.
Good luck!
Danke! I’m sort of free-forming my own program right now, but there is a method to the madness–even if it’s not as calculated as, say, 5/3/1.
I loved 5-3-1. I need to know what I’m doing when I get there.
I’ve followed a few different programs: Bill Starr’s 5×5 program, 5/3/1, 5/3/1+, starting strength… Plus a couple CrossFit specific programs (Outlaw Way and Invictus). So, while I wouldn’t say I’m some kind of authority on lifting, I’m somewhat of an authority on my own lifting and what works for me. Thus, kind of lifting to the beat of my own drum.
Yeah, I’m on my own as well, but 5-3-1 was a godsend for a couple years. I will probably hit it again just for fun.
I have used this as a guide.
https://caliberstrong.com/weight-lifting-goals/
Those are all for fellas!
But it’s still a good guide 🙂
So multiply by .77
I lol’d
Wait– you have videos?
*immediately clicks over to glib store*
Hah! I’ve debated posting them here, but it would be pure vanity on my part. If you want to see good form, nothing will be better than one of Rippetoe’s videos.
Are we OT yet?
Good, good.
Come see the violence inherent in the system!
Synopsis: Dem staffer from Dem oppo/funding operation founded by David Brock and funded by George Soros assaults Republican Department of Interior flack inside the frickin’ Capitol building. To my mild surprise, he was arrested.
Not really OT. Fighting is good exercise.
Some people say swimming is the best exercise. They are wrong. The best exercise is trying not to get your ass kicked.
That’s why I always make it a point to get caught in the act when I’m banging someone else’s wife.
I thought the best exercise was genocide? Other than soccer.
MATT. DAMON.
So we get Kevin Smith references?
Noted.
The author of the bike cuck comic seems to think violence might be a good way to improve things.

Well that’s really fucking manly.
+1 Preston Brooks
I just want to be able to deadlift and squat twice my body weight and overhead and bench press my body weight.
How many times?
One rep or more. If I ever get there… two reps or more. And so on.
Too bad he was a murderous psycho because Industrial Society and its Future is a pretty damn good read.
Que?
Ted Kaczynski.
Traveled this week and managed to lose a few more. Intermittent fasting is fucking awesome for traveling, as you can just wait if there isn’t anything worth eating.
Down 14 and had to move to a different belt!
Foot is healing and I was able to deadlift fairly comfortably today.
All awesome!
I’m feeling your pain about the MIL. My Grandmother (the best ever, as it happens), had severe memory issues and I hated watching her disappear.
You and the kid are smart for taking the time now.
Well, things need to be handled and decided. We’re still at the gentle prodding and convincing stage, mostly.
Where was your warm destination this Spring? T&C?
DR in a little over a week. Gotta spread those T&C trips apart a little so I don’t have to eat cat food!
I had a free place to stay at Atlantis next month, but I couldn’t go. Sometimes, even free is too expensive.
Truth.

Introducing the San Diego RIOT Diet!
You are not in it alone SP. I joined a gym about 10 months ago because my wife thought it would be fun to work out together. Oddly, she won’t get up at 5 to join me.
9 months ago I started Athleanx. It’s a great program which immediately demonstrated how out of shape I was. I’ve been diligent if not perfect with the program. I’m down fourteen pounds. I’ve dropped two pants sizes. I finally have triceps you can see, my abs are starting to look like abs instead of an undefined blob, and I’m generally fitter.
When I started the program I barely squeezed out two clapping push ups as part of a test. Last week I did a set of twenty, followed by fifteen, then twelve, and finally ten. I felt ten feet tall.
I still have a lot more to accomplish but I feel great for the progress I’ve made.
And as I said yesterday, you are a saint for visiting your MIL without the hubs.
So you recommend Athleanx? I considered picking it up but I never know if those programs will be effective.
I do recommend it. The program is very big on proper form and intensity. What you see on those YouTube videos is what you get in the program. It’s the same attitude and mentality. I like that Jeff Cavaliere (sp?) is a physical therapist. He deliberately omits some common exercises because they are likely to injure you. He has shown me exercises I never knew existed. He does encourage heavy lifts, with proper form, for some exercises and demonstrates what proper form is. As for effective, I’ve always been a hard gainer. I’m 53 and for the first time in my life I’m squatting and deadlifting without hurting myself, I’m losing some weight, gaining some muscle, and generally feel better about my appearance than I have in decades.
That’s awesome, Chafed! I have no idea how you people can work out early, but I admire it.
Keep on truckin’!
Wow, good job! That’s really impressive!
Fuck. I just wrote a short novel about myself this week. Then the page crashed and you lost my incoherent rant. Here are the highlights:
After losing 70 lbs on a steady trend, i got gained 7 lbs in the last two 2 weeks. Most of it is water weight due to getting off a diuretic BP med. A little is due to increased muscle mass from physical therapy for my knee.
Tried intermittent fasting. Its killing my energy level while I’m on a 2,000 calorie a day deficit, which is killing my PT and made me not have the energy for cardio or any other resistance training. So I got off that shit today and feel a lot better.
The water weight means I can’t trust the scale to tell me how much body fat I’m losing, so I’m going to start using other measures (regular pictures, measuring tape, and electrical impedance device that was independently validated).
Oh, and I’m going fucking insane because I’m gaining weight while on a 2,000 a day deficit (plus whatever I expend on PT). I know that its no longer a good measure of my bodyfat. And my system 2 / rider brain knows this is ok, but the system 1 / elephant part of me is freaking the fuck out.
Steady, brother!
Weight loss is a roller coaster, particularly after the first hurrah. Just the fact that you got off the BP meds is a major goddamn win. Start focusing on how you feel and look. Leave the scale alone for awhile.
You’re kicking ass, regardless of how much your brain is fucking with you.
What Tundra said. Way to go, dude!
Don’t let your brain fuck with you–stay the course and be patient.
I read enough Football Outsiders to know that its about the process not the outcomes. There is no realistic way that I’m eating 3,000 unaccounted for calories a day, which is what I’d have to eat to put that much fat on.
I’ll do what I can control. I weight my food, I’ll stick to the my macros, and I’ll take one day off PT to recover while I unfuck my energy level. I’ll find different metrics to track that will more closely agree with the parameters that my goals are defined in.
I’ll probably set aside a little extra time to meditate, too. Haven’t done enough of that lately, and that’s good for getting my head screwed on straight.
Good on you for logic-ing through that. I know a lot of people see the scale go up, panic, and crash diet for a couple weeks. Weight loss isn’t linear, which you clearly understand. 🙂 Taking a little time to get your mind right is always a good idea.
I also say the Glibertarian’s prayer.
Ron Paul, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can;
The power to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, to hear the lamentations of their women;
And the wisdom to not stick it in crazy;
Except for Evan he should totally stick it in that one chick.
Solid LOL.
Hahahahaha! That’s fabulous. I love it.
Needs a little “fear is the mind killer,” but still perfectly acceptable.
amen
Word.
I dropped below 200 yesterday!! I haven’t been below 200 in probably a decade. My wife bought me a medium t-shirt for St. Patrick’s day, and it’s tight, but it doesn’t untuck itself.
Welcome to “one”derland. 🙂 Congrats on the progress!
Awesome!
You’re checking yourself out in the mirror right now, aren’t you?
No mirror in my office, but the monitor is pretty reflective.
Congratulations.
Good job. You can do it.
Sooooo it’s a Schmedium?…
*hobbles back to hot rock*
Seriously congrats mammal, I’m sure you’ll be down to fighting weight in no time
Thanks for the encouragement, all.
That’s fantastic.
Just what we need.
Bozeman attorney John Meyer announced Monday he’s seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Congressman Greg Gianforte in the race for Montana’s U.S. House seat.
In a statement released Monday shortly after he filed, the environmental lawyer said outdoor recreation is now the top driver of Montana’s economy. People are coming to Montana for its public lands, he said.
“As a hunter, climber, skier, mountain biker and public lands attorney, I am well situated to represent Montana in Congress,” Meyer said.
On his website, Meyer wrote that he’s running for the U.S. House seat because he wants to protect people, forests, water and wildlife in Montana. He said he is grateful for the landscapes, opportunities and freedoms he is able to enjoy in the state.
“As a Democrat, I believe that by ensuring and expanding these blessings for every Montanan, we will improve the quality of life for all Montanans,” Meyer wrote.
——–
In 2011, Meyer represented the Billings-based Northern Plains Resource Council on a lawsuit in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that invalidated the construction permit for a $550 million railroad that had been approved in southeast Montana.
More recently, Meyer is involved in ongoing litigation to block the capture and hazing of bison on the north side of Yellowstone National Park, which was filed in federal court last month.
An attorney who makes his living suing the government to prevent people from making a living is running for Congress. Splendid.
People who don’t work have more time to recreate, right?
Well, fuck that guy.
How the hell do you haze a bison? Why would you want to?
Make it do 3 beer bongs in a row. Like DUH.
Blind fold it, make it stand on a chair, sprinkle potato chips on the ground, and tell him if he can jump down without cutting his feet on the glass he can be in the fraternity.
STEVE SMITH NOT SURE BUT WILL FIND OUT
Whatever you do, DON’T do any butt-chugging!
I believe you have to rape it, like they do at Westpoint.
How? With helicopters and ATVs. Why? Disease control along cattle herds.
Fyi SP, there’s a small issue with the CSS on mobile where the footer links don’t stay in the footer but instead float about a third up the page. It made posting the answer to Tonio’s question on bison hazing a bit of a pain, as the link to the legal disclaimer was overlayed on top of the “Post Comment” button. I eventually had the bright idea of turning my phone sideways, putting the site in landscape mode which allowed me to post.
No big deal, just thought you might want to know. I can mess around later to try and isolate it and give you a proper bug report.
I have experienced this as well
OT and i dont care
“It was the perfect crime… save for one small detail”
Should have used Uber.
After losing 70 lbs on a steady trend, i got gained 7 lbs in the last two 2 weeks.
My personal opinion- try to ignore the scale. Weigh yourself no more than once a week.
I weigh in every Friday morning, unless I’m too sleepy to remember. Then its Saturday. but no more than once a week. I”m going to take a break for a month.
Down 1.8 lb this week, for 42% of GlibFit goal and 23% of overall goal. Back trending in the right direction!
Nice job!
Precision! I like it.
Keep it up!
Thanks, gents!

Set aside that it was written by a murderous psycho.
Set aside that it was written by a murderous psycho.
I might try to hack my way through that.
Finished up week 5 of MTI’s Resilience program. Definitely putting numbers up on the lifts and dropping time on the rucks & runs. Staying steady at 190#. Good so far.
*looks up Resilience*
Christ, man! How old are you? That looks cool but like it might kill me.
Late 20s, haha. I’d rather be doing more hypertrophy/meathead shit but MTI has some good “job specific” programming that’s more valuable for me right now.
Honestly, you could probably start with a program like Humility or Big 24 and work your way up to Resilience, no problem. Just takes time and dedication!
Never gonna be able to do that kind of stuff again; doctor’s orders. I’m glad you’re goin for it, get it while the gettin’s good.
I’m banking on cyborg bionic prosthetics becoming available by the time I’m too old and broken to do my job. Fingers crossed.
Just be careful.
Dude, I looked at the sample training and was like, “Oh, that’s totally doable. Wait, that’s the warm-up? Oh…”
Looks like the Glibs are hard working people, Y’allins doin Great, Keep it up!
I’ll second that! Lotta kickass motivated dudes and dudettes around here.

Southern Poverty Law Center apologizes after painting journalists as fascists in retracted article
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/03/16/southern-poverty-law-center-apologizes-after-painting-journalists-as-fascists-in-retracted-article.html
***
The controversial, far-left Southern Poverty Law Center was forced to retract and apologize for an article that falsely asserted several reporters were enabling white supremacists and Russia while labeling them as fascists and racists.
The SPLC on March 9 published the misleading article by Alexander Reid Ross headlined, “The multipolar spin: how fascists operationalize left-wing resentment.” The story attempted to frame progressive journalists as pawns being used by the alt-right and made dangerous accusations in an attempt to fit its narrative.
The convoluted 2,500-plus word article was removed the following day after journalist Max Blumenthal, who was named in the article, expressed concern that he was falsely portrayed as some sort of Russian surrogate in what he called a lie-filled piece of innuendo.
“Some believe the article was just badly written and sourced, factually incorrect, and perhaps, not vetted or edited,” BuzzFeed’s Talal Ansari wrote. “The article attempted to explain how the rise of conspiracy theories surrounding conflicts like Syria have turned traditional ‘leftists’ to do the bidding of ‘fascist’ agendas.”
***
They probably opened themselves up to a libel claim and that’s the only reason they retracted and apologized. They have no shame and will smear their enemies in any way they think they can get away with. Apparently an attorney thought they couldn’t get away with this.
Ohio student suspended for staying in class during National Walkout Day
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/16/ohio-student-suspended-for-staying-in-class-during-national-walkout-day.html
***
An Ohio high school student said he tried to stay apolitical during the National Walkout Day over gun violence but was suspended for his choice to remain in a classroom instead of joining protests or the alternative, going to study hall.
Jacob Shoemaker, a senior at Hilliard Davidson High School, said he didn’t want to take sides in the gun-control debate consuming the country. If he went outside for the walkout, he said, he would be supporting gun control. If he stayed in the common area of the school, he said, he would be seen as supporting gun violence and disrespecting the 17 lives lost in the Parkland, Fla. High school shooting the month before.
Jacob had met with the school’s principal on Tuesday, a day before the rally, for about an hour to find out what exactly the walkout was supporting. But he said the principal reportedly told him it was for the “students to express themselves.”
This left Jacob wondering if it was a memorial for the lives lost or a show of support for gun control.
He decided, instead, to stay in class for about 20 minutes doing homework after his teacher and fellow classmates left and locked the door.
When they returned, he was slapped with a suspension.

Debunked in the morning links, I believe.

Jake Shoemaker, the student in question, tells NBC4 he did not want to participate in the walkout, and he did not want to go to the area where non-participants were.
“I told them I would have to be dragged out of my seat,” Jake told NBC4.
He explained his reasoning for not participating and what really happened for him to receive a suspension.

It’s still a stupid reason to suspend someone.
Someones been reading Melville in Am Lit class.
Last I checked, sneaking back to the car to smoke a bowl was always an option in these situations.

Poland reckons with its 1968 campaign against Jews
https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/15/opinions/expulsion-polish-jews-50th-anniversary-schatz/index.html

In February, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a bill making it illegal to accuse Poland of complicity in the Holocaust. Speaking to journalists days later, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki rejected criticism of the law and prompted censure for implying that Jews should be seen as among the perpetrators of the Holocaust.
For some, this controversy evokes memories of the anti-Semitic March 1968 campaign, initiated by the then-communist government. The campaign led to the forced exodus of 15,000 Jews — including renowned figures in the arts and sciences — less than a quarter of a century after the Holocaust.
And though Poland’s lower house of Parliament adopted a resolution last week condemning the 1968 campaign, its significance is not lost on anyone — least of all its remaining Jewish population.
In response to Israel’s 1967 Six-Day War with its Arab neighbors, Władysław Gomułka, first secretary of the governing Polish United Workers’ Party, began a bigoted campaign against Polish Jews.

Polish National Foundation’s #GermanDeathCamps campaign
a very long article in which a prog complains of how the reality of govt interferes with his noble vision

…
Kludgeocracy also harms liberalism, by creating both the image and the reality that government is incompetent and corrupt. The complexity of the tax code, for instance, facilitates tax cheating and creative accounting, and along with it the impression that tax compliance is lower than it actually is. Much of the legitimacy of the law and the willingness of citizens to contribute to public goods rests on the perception that others are doing their share. Complexity eats away at this perception, which is crucial for maintaining public support for the expansion of the kinds of state activity that liberals favor.
…
Imagine a world in which constitutional norms forced government to act directly and transparently or forgo action altogether. Americans would have a government that did fewer, simpler, bigger things, and they would be able to more effectively reward politicians for policy successes and to hold them accountable for failures.

Pfft! Like that is ever gonna happen.
A recent conversation, paraphrased.
Me: Power corrupts; money and power always find each other.
Her: That’s just too pessimistic. Things should be better.
Me: The situation will not change unless human nature changes.
Funny how he can accurately describe the problem (government incompetence) yet so utterly miss the mark of how to solve it.
“Government is incompetent and fails at what it tries to accomplish; we need to give it more power!”
“Government is incompetent and fails at what it tries to accomplish; we need to give it more power!”
this is called “prog harder”
I believe the minor ulcer I’ve been suffering through for about four months has finally healed up. Over that time period I’ve lost about fifteen pounds and I’m not fucking happy about it.
Ulcers suck, but they heal, watch What you eat,and drop the stress
fun facts
elkos means wound in Greek
arsah means hemorrhoids in Sanskrit
hemorrhoid means bleeding in Greek
That’s the thing, I love nearly anything spicy. Indian, Mexican, bbq, Greek, Italian. You name it, I’ll eat it. I had to switch to a UCS style diet to give it a chance to heal properly but that, coupled with not smoking weed for nearly two months because of potential job I’m currently on a trail run for(an extra $20k a year is too good of an opportunity to pass up)has effectively killed my appetite. I’ve always been thin but now I’m starting to look sickly.
That’s ok, mammal bitches dig the lean reptile look. Ask me how I know
You never gave up on 90’s heroin chic?
Not always without treatment. If they don’t heal, they can put you at risk of stomach cancer in conjunction w/ H. pylori.
News that surprises no one here.

I’m actually surprised; not at the prices, but that there are still functioning delis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radithor
***
Radithor was manufactured from 1918 to 1928 by the Bailey Radium Laboratories, Inc., of East Orange, New Jersey. The owner of the company and head of the laboratories was listed as William J. A. Bailey, a dropout from Harvard College,[1] who was not a medical doctor.[2] It was advertised as “A Cure for the Living Dead”[3] as well as “Perpetual Sunshine”. The expensive product was claimed to cure impotence, among other ills.[4]
Eben Byers, a wealthy American socialite, athlete, industrialist and Yale College graduate, died from Radithor radium poisoning in 1932.[5] Byers was buried in a lead-lined coffin; when exhumed in 1965 for study, his remains were still highly radioactive.[4]
Byers’s death led to the strengthening of the Food and Drug Administration’s powers and the demise of most radiation-based patent medicines.

Only 2 sessions this week so far (fucking work, man)…
6.5 miles in 52:58
5K in 22:25
Neither is anything like racing pace, but it’s still just mid-March (week 3 of the season), so pretty satisfied. And I’m enough of a geezer that I can’t red line in training very often any more, so I could do somewhat better than those numbers in a race right now.
It was advertised as “A Cure for the Living Dead”
Well, death by radiation poisoning is a kind of cure for what ails ya, I suppose…
Romance of Radium (I have no idea how long it will be up.)
Ugh. Missed the last check-in, but I’ve switched over to a new program for conditioning. It’s called the MVO2 protocol. It’s basically HIIT with a kettlebell. I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now, and besides wanting to throw up after most work-outs I’ve also noticed I’ve been losing fat and my overhead press 1RM is up. So far I’m on the 15:15 stage with a 16kg bell four times a week, with one or two days just doing strength training. My max has been 16 minutes, which nearly killed me, but it’s getting easier. Mind you, the callouses on my hands have callouses, but at least I can’t get rope-burn anymore.
I’ve kept up with the intermittent fasting. I’m not sure it’s actually doing anything in particular, but it does seem to make it so that even if I binge when I get home I just can’t fit enough food to go above my calorie limit for the day. Plus I save money on lunch, so there’s that.
Congrats everybody, looks like y’all are hangin’ in there! We’ll be the most attractive bunch of Internet misfits the world has ever seen before long!

I haven’t drunk any booze this week. I’m saving up my allotment for tomorrow, St. Patrick’s Day. I had no doughnut today because I had one this month. I did much better on controlling snacking than previous weeks, but not as good as I’d like. I didn’t get to the gym that much, but instead, on the days I didn’t get to the gym, I did some bodyweight work (dips, pull-ups, wall-sits) at home. Weight? 288 lbs. Start weight was 293 lbs and my goal was a ten pound loss (283 lbs).
I got stammered last night. Feeling my oats today. The older I get the harder those next days are. Planning on doing it again Pattys Day.
All existing states are illegitimate. That is all
Ha, the wine cork picture reminded me of a coffee table I built sing hundreds of wine corks under glass for a top, I went looking for pictures of it on old cds, I didn’t find any but did find this apparently one of my earliest walk cycle test, dated 2007, all he needs is a monocle and top hat.
Just found out my local liquor store has a Caskmates IPA tasting tomorrow.
Is that for Jamesons? My gf got their caskmates bourbon, and it’s pretty good.
Ok week, not great. Did more stairs at work, but I tried running and now my foot hurts again. Needs m o re time.
Do what you can Tulip. Doing something is far better than doing nothing.
