Murdered Mexican journalist
the real deal.
Note the utter lack of help from their US komeraden? Oh wait, I forgot that they moved mountains here –
His asylum denial has provoked outrage among many U.S. journalists and migrant advocates, who have organized protests outside the detention center where he and his son are being held.
Couldn’t accredit them and have them come in on a work visa at a US bureau, eh? Get Carlos Slim to cough up a few bucks to help? Protest outside Mexican Embassy? Send lawyers, guns and money? What is Europe or Canada or anyone else doing as far as asylum?
There has been a smattering of coverage, mostly last year, when a couple of high profile murders were in the news. But I don’t see much of an effort to do anything other than cluck. I guess it is just too hard to do anything or consistently bring this story to light, when you are too busy covering Cheeto Mussolini’s latest Tweet.

Yes. You can major in it at Columbia.

“Our current libel laws are a sham and a disgrace, and do not represent American values or American fairness,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, saying the issue was on his administration’s 2018 agenda. “You can’t say things that are false — knowingly false — and be able to smile as money pours into your bank account. We’re going to take a very, very strong look at that. And I think what the American people want to see is fairness.”
This seems pretty reasonable to me, but I’m a shitlord (and not one of the anointed media-approved shitlords) so I’m obviously some kind of proto-fascist-misogynist-racist-bigot Nazi (or worse, a conservative).
No, it’s shit. NY Times vs Sullivan is one of the better things the Supreme Court has done in the last century.
What he said is perfectly in sync with NYT v. Sullivan. ‘Saying things that are knowingly false’ is basically the same as ‘reckless disregard for the truth’ (which is what the Court said).
However, I agree that when the congress critters were finished with any bill, it would likely be an unacceptable limit on the first Amendment, so we’re better off with things the way they are.
I was just saying that the above statement was pretty reasonable.
I’m actually ok with the media being a bunch of lying, partisan demagogues. Just be upfront about it. Stop this ridiculous claim to be martyrs to the truth, braving the wrath of authority to speak truth to power or whatever. I would love to be able to rely on professional fact-gatherers to just keep me informed about what’s happening in the world, but that’s not happening. In it’s absence, just be honest about being cheerleaders for your political sponsors.
Don’t Piss on my Leg and tell me it’s Raining,

Exactly. Drop the pretense, NBC, it confuses the naive.
They will never drop the pretense, because the usual moron that takes the shit they peddle as fact wants to believe they are being told the truth…
Also no special treatment and government support to “official” media.
I’m fine with them proceeding in their current fashion. What are there approval ratings now? About 20-30%? Let them continue, it will be zero in a few years, IOW, no one will watch them.
I’ll bet it’s something like with Congressional approval ratings. Nobody likes Congress in general, but they think their reps are just peachy.
My rep sucks donkey ballz. But of course being in MD, there’s almost zero chance of that not being true.
The decision itself? Yes. The subsequent jurisprudence? Not so much.
The “actual malice” standard has, in practice, set the bar so high that telepathy is practically required to prove it, and the definition of “public official” has been watered down so thoroughly that anyone with some kind of fame can claim it applies to them.
That having been said, given that many courts have decided to completely shed any semblance of impartiality, with little to no consequence, I do not know that anyone has a workable solution to this problem.
When cops and prosecutors can be prosecuted for lying then we can worry about the NYT.
“Qualified” immunity has been one hell of a FYTW.
Oh now you are just being unreasonable. What kind of person would expect that unreachable standard?

The worthless fuckers at the NYT and other outlets either believe that they’re one Trump diktat away from being in coffins themselves or, more likely, want to intimate that to their readers.
They are martirs. And that is not even mentioning the price of a decent single origin fresh roast free trade organic non gmo cup of coffee and they go through many a day
To be fair there still are some reporters who take risks. But most of the milenials who started life as bloggers are not. And the risk taker probably complain lesa
It is about depriving Trump of support at all costs, because he is rolling back Obama’s shitty rule by the pen. These cunts are gatekeepers to the Obama legacy. They crowned him. They protected him (even when he fucked them over, over and over). It’s about sending the message that the left will not tolerate anyone in charge but one of their own. This is about people that are on a holy crusade to force their dogma on the masses, and to cleanse those that resist out. These people may pretend to be morally superior, but they harbor some of the most evil beliefs, all justified by their firmly held belief that the ends justify the means. They are the most dangerous kind of fanatics.
^This. I know in some circles it’s very vogue to always follow up criticising the left with equivocations to how equally bad the right is. I don’t deny that the right is fucking awful on war and a host of other domestic issues. They are complete hypocrites as we have just seen on the spending bill. That being said their evil doesn’t hold a candle to the evil that is the left. These people truly will not stop until we have gulags and firing squads. They are void of any principle and their primary motivation and unifying agent is hate. That’s to whoever suggested Eric Hoffer to me, I feel like I truly see the left for what it is.
Which is completely funny. Between Trump & Clinton, pissing off which one with investigative reporting is more likely to lead to multiple suicide shots to the back of the head?
They don’t believe any of that shit, but the NYT has been very left leaning since at least the 1930s. They’re just so hysterical right now because Trump is pissing all over their progressive parade. Friedman and Bruni should be writing for Salon.
Instead of fighting Poppy Production in Afghanistan, maybe Our Military should Nation build South of the Border,

Send Poppy to Afghanistan?
If we’re going to to that, just annex it. Take our southern border from 1500 to 150 miles or whatever they are. Plus cheap beachfront property for me. Would be cheaper to just legalize drugs and put all the bad guys out of business.
Give California back to Mexico and let the wealth of California fix the problem with the rest of Mexico.

How many reporters are having their phones tapped at the moment? Obama was smart about not criticizing the media, but he sure as fuck did not look the other way when they criticized him or leaks came out of his blessed realm. Didn’t the Obama DOJ have a journalist jailed?
As to Mexican journalists, that is a huge fuck up on the Trump administrations hands. If they were smart, they would give sanctuary and be very, very, very vocal about it and stuff that right in the face of the NYT, WaPo and others for being such pussies about getting all bent out of shape for “mean” tweets, as well as use it as a hammer on the Mexican Government to clean up all the corruption. Mexico is a goddamned mess thanks in a big part to the WOD and I wish Trump would drop the hammer on that too.
This morning on my drive to the store I heard listener comments to NPR during the fund drive on how they so much appreciate the unbiased coverage NPR delivers and that is why they are donating. People don’t know what unbiased is anymore. Unbiased = confirming my bias.
^ All of this.
Yeah, and Obama was treated like a saint by the media. Just imagine if they would have trashed him 24/7 like they do Trump. Some of them may have disappeared.
I think a couple did
“Mexico is a goddamned mess thanks in a big part to the WOD and I wish Trump would drop the hammer on that too.”
I made pretty much this exact comment at a dinner party with co-workers once. We were talking about vacationing there and I said I used to go there a lot, but now I won’t because it’s getting too dangerous on account of the USA’s war on drugs creating all the drug cartels. Some people looked at me like I had a 3rd eye in the middle of my forehead. It’s sad just how naive most Americans are when it comes to things like that.
80+ years of drug-war hysteria/propaganda will have that effect. Hell, 150+ if you want to include alcohol.
Life truism – doing things which actually help people costs time, money, and effort, and often results in *zero* social attention.
People in media tend to desire a lot of attention. QED
Samizdata quotes a Times of London op-ed about Oxfam. I think it’s relevant to your first paragraph.
They need a new report in inequality quick. Otherwise i am shocked that workers in big charaties are in it for themselves. Travel the world. Meet interesting people. Help pretty 16 year olds make an honest buck
Much of Oxfam’s sickness comes from its receipt of government money. No longer was it entirely dependent on the goodwill of ordinary people with their naive belief that the money they gave should be spent on medicine or tents or emergency latrines rather than politicking, and their equally tedious preference that their donations not be spent on prostitutes. Freed from all that, Oxfam could branch out into being a political party for people too sensitive to do the hard graft of going door to door and canvassing for votes, and as a bonus it could advocate for the policies that would keep the stream of government money coming
I never give money to any organization which also solicits the government for hand outs. Free market or GTFO
Many of those fake charities then turn around and lobby the government for more statist laws.
What a shocker.
The whole charity industry is a scam that exists for it’s own sake.
Known exceptions: St. Jude’s, Shriners hospital for children, Salvation Army, and….uh….give me a minute.
There are a few good ones in Romania. Generally small and don’t take government money
Some years back a friend of mine gave birth to a child that had Job’s Syndrome. She was at a loss as to what to do, had little money and felt it was pretty hopeless. I called both St. Jude’s and Shriners and they took the kid, no charge, no questions asked. I imagine by now that kid has used more than a million dollars worth of health care.
Don’t look up Job’s Syndrome. You will have nightmares.
Yeah round these parts there are some decent orthodoz priests wbo actually takes care of orphans, a few charatice providing lomg term care for the ill that do not get it with our fab government healhcare and a few more. There are honest charities that in the end are useless like one who raised money to buy equipment for a government hospital that ended up unuses and storimg dust

Do not include Goodwill on that list they are another grifter organization.
To cluck or not to cluck? Well, can I score political points by turning this into a funny meme? No? Then no cluck for you.
Oh, cluck off.
Maybe there was a good reason for that denial, something beyond “Trump is a poopy-head”. Who knows?
Ya maybe. Good point. I would not put it past a journalist from playing both sides of a story/field. I still think it would be huge political capital if Trump was vocal about giving asylum to Mexican journalists given the number of them who find themselves murdered.
As an added bonus the quality of journalism in the U.S. might improve.
Doubtful
I also very much doubt it. I don’t know about Mexico, but if you watch Brazilian news, all they do is parrot CNN. I suspect that Mexico is no different.
I thought Brazilian news was comprised entirely of thicc weather girls?
I wish, I’d watch if more. There are some pretty anchor ladies, parroting CNN unfortunately. The really hot ones on TV there are on the novelas, holy mother of jeebus.
Is Xuxa still a thing? We watched the Hell out that show when I was in the Army.
Xuxa Meneghel? She’s still a TV personality.
That’s awesome. There was something heartwarming about seeing an orderly room full of soldiers getting all misty-eyed when Xuxa would bring out all the disabled children for the ‘Xuxa Kiss’ at the end of the show.
Are you referring to Xuxa, or South American sensation sho shisher… Shoe sashi… Sersoooouurrrgh…
Her current show is Dancing Brazil or something like that.

I really have to break my habit of watching NY1 (the local cable news) before I leave for work. Other than the weather, traffic, and fluff pieces it might as well be Salon.

Mr. Trump’s criticisms represented an effort to undermine faith in journalism
Faith that was previously in such abundance due to their hard-hitting stories on how much ice cream he eats, and their forthright willingness to criticize officials, like Lerner, Clapper, Comey, et al., and examine stories about abuses and corruption without bias or dependence upon biased sources.
“an effort to undermine faith in journalism”
They’re really doing that all on their own, there’s not much for Trump or anyone else to do there.
“” undermine faith in journalism””
I have total faith in the inanity of partisan hacks
They are unbiased. NPR supporters told me so.
The link to that takedown of Oxfam Ted S posted upthread reminds me, a buddy sent me this neat article from, of all places, NPR, and it’s actually a pretty good analysis of altruism vis a vis individualistic societies or collective societies.
Here it is and some snippets –
The whole thing is worth your time to read, and, apologies to confirmation bias nothwithstanding, it kind of re-enforces things everyone here already knows.

Heh heh. Look at the name of this country: U-R-GAY
I’ve said before that the term “socialism” is a misnomer. Forcibly taking from others is profoundly antisocial, and leads to all other manner of antisocial behaviours. Individualism, on the other hand, is more sociable (i.e., leaving other people alone) and can lead people to be more kind and generous (sociable), because they’re doing so voluntarily.
^We have a winner.
Sunday afternoon seems like the right time for an OT ramble. I was on my porch trying to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather and a cold Sierra Nevada Otra Vez (too much of a summer beer for Feb but I’m thinking Spring) and was driven inside by my white trash neighbor who decided to spend his Sunday afternoon reving the engine on his 4 wheeler and doing 1/4 mile laps on a road where he could easily go 6 before needing to turn around. Anyway, I followed a link on the last article over to some blather on TOS and spent a few minutes perusing the cesspool that is the comments section now. Tony, Hihn, Dajal, Robert, Domestic Dissent and a whole bunch of other shitstains yelling and talking past each other. I just wanted to say I am very grateful to the founders of this site who have expended so much time and energy to make this happen and all the commenters and contributors whom entertain me daily with you wit, insight and civility (for the internet anyways).
Slainte!
*raises Sunday beer #3 to Gordilocks
Fuck off Tulpa.
I will second what Tulpa said. I only get to read this site early mornings, late and on weekends when I am wasting my life away recovering from wasting my life away doing others bidding for some coin. The topic of this post is something I have been stewing on for awhile and it is brought up here in the dregs of family friendly web content.
And on another OT note. I am in the market for a more fuel efficient mode of transport. This morning I saw at a wreck yard/used car dealership a Mini Cooper with the sticker price $2800. Is that even possible? It was not bent in half or anything.
It’s possible, be aware that repair costs on the Coopers is high, and (from what I’ve heard and seen) they’re a pain to work on as everything is crammed together. They are fun to drive though.
Good point about repair costs and pain to work on. If I get it maybe I could replace the front hood/fenders with a CJ5 front end, fashion duel stacks and put a naked lady hood ornament on it.
Sounds like my annoying neighbour. The second I decide to enjoy the peace he always finds something to fricken start and rev up. He mows the lawn every four days, he starts up the snow blower every chance he gets even if a simple bloody shovel can get the job done, tinkers off and on with his ski-doos, and his boat. The only thing he’s missing is a Harley and its fart sounds.
He’s exhausting.
Other than that, he’s a great guy.
Know the difference between a Harley-Davidson and a vacuum cleaner? The position of the dirt-bag.
/Ill be here all week
I full support my neighbors right to use his property however he sees fit. I just don’t understand why, on a rural road with miles of trails intersecting it, you have to essentially just do laps past our two houses. He quit a few minutes ago so I’m much happier.
I have the same problem. My neighbor likes to ride behind our houses when he could load his four wheeler on his trailer and drive for five minutes to BLM land and annoy nobody. What do you do? I am not one to be a dick about it which I am sure you aren’t either. I have thought about working on my chainsaw at 5 am over the weekend a few times though.
Make sure you aren’t wearing headphones, you don’t want to get Japtackled.
Yeah it’s one of those things I’m not going to get worked up over. It’s just an occasional nuessence. I’ve only interacted with him a couple times but it’s always pleasant. I’m a hermit so I’m sure it’s rare that he even remembers I’m here.
I am the same way. Us hermits get no respect. We should form a movement and have a march. The million hermit march nobody showed up to could have the biggest social justice impact of the 21st century. Headline: “Nobody Speaks for Them Not Even Themselves.” We could become a protected class and claim disability.
Eh, aren’t a bunch of whiners already claiming ‘social anxiety disorder’ gives them special status points?
I swear my neighbors are outside 24 hours a day. And not just one of them, always several of them together just standing around talking or walking their ankle biters. There’s no way they ever sleep or go inside. And they always want to draw me into their Stepford like cult. I’m typically just ‘hi’ and keep on walking. My wife talks to them, there’s only one of them she tries to avoid also.
Last place I lived I had a disabled vet neighbor who lived on his front porch. Nice guy, we still talk occasionally, but it drove me nuts that I couldn’t drink a damn beer outside without having to interact with him…..sometimes you just want to sit outside and just enjoy yourself without having talk to anyone. That’s one of the reasons I moved out to the middle of damned nowhere, other than someone 4wheeling or shooting I never get interrupted.
I typically stay inside or go out on the deck, which is in the back where there’s a step hill and it’s heavily wooded. I hardly ever see anyone out there. Unfortunately, I have go out front to leave and they are always fucking out there. I’m sure they think I’m unsociable. I’m also sure I don’t give a fuck. We do have one neighbor who I believe is a truly nice person and I do talk to her and my wife likes her. There’s also a younger Asian couple in the hood who seem genuinely nice. But the ones who are always standing around outside gossiping, I don’t trust them and don’t want to talk to them. I found that out the first time I actually talked to them. My ‘avoid asshole people’ alarm went off on high very quickly.
Reminds me of my uncle when a former high school teacher tried to buddy up to him in a bar;
“I thought you were an asshole back then and my opinion hasn’t changed”
People are highly overrated and the more of them you can avoid, the better for you. That’s my motto and I’m sticking with it.
I second that.
RACISM
Sacramento City Unified Superintendent Jorge Aguilar vowed to diversity the district’s academically elite programs Saturday after a C.K. McClatchy High School student’s science fair project questioned whether certain races were smart enough to compete.
The science fair project stirred outrage when The Sacramento Bee published an article about it Saturday morning. Aguilar released a video statement Saturday night addressing the issue.
Titled “Race and IQ,” the science project raised the hypothesis: “If the average IQs of blacks, Southeast Asians, and Hispanics are lower than the average IQs of non-Hispanic whites and Northeast Asians, then the racial disproportionality in (the school’s elite HISP program) is justified.”
———–
Despite its content, the project was allowed to go on display at a science fair at the Land Park high school last week.
Aguilar said the district is investigating the details around the science project, specifically whether proper instructional protocols were followed. The poster detailing the project was put up Monday evening and removed Wednesday, after students complained.
It’s not clear whether the teacher reviewed the project before it was displayed.
“The use of racially offensive language in our schools by anyone does not reflect our values as a school district and will not be tolerated,” Aguilar said. “Many students, family members and community members have expressed how upset they are about this issue.”
Maybe they should randomly select students for this “advanced academic program” and then give everybody an A++ grade average. That would disprove variation in intelligence, by race or any other criteria.
*I suspect the kid’s science fair project was not rigorous enough to withstand a lot of scrutiny, but- so fucking what? There’s your “learning experience” right there. Make him defend his methodology and conclusions against reasoned, rational objections. Make him defend his definition of “intelligence”. But that would never be permissible. Because badthink.
Eh i would discourage taking on this issue by a highschool student. Then again i do not care much about average iq of various groups.
What did they expect in a high school named after Louis C.K. ?
Public masturbation?
It wasn’t in public and he asked for consent which was given. In the past I often asked young ladies if they minded if I rubbed one out over drinks. Granted, I now drink alone but I don’t think the two things are related.
LOL you think?
Perhaps the results would show something different and of significance if he had categorized students by socioeconomic status or more directly by parental involvement in their child’s education.
These studies that categorize students by race measure something insignificant for the purpose of stirring shit.
Oh, look. Men’s long distance cross country skiing. Positively riveting.
Does womens hockey count as hockey? Canada russia was on TV when I was visiting my mom. I did not see any fights so seemed iffy. Then again i jnow nothing of hockey
No fighting in Olympic Hockey – Men or Women.
Laaaame
I wonder if there was any death race / rollerball style 70s movie but with hockey. Like the sticks had blades and shit
Remember roller derby? The women beat the shit out of each other in that.
Also, no crying in Olympic Baseball — Or Olympic Women’s Softball.
Women’s hockey doesn’t allow checking, which takes a lot of the physicality out of the game.
Why not? Seems like discrimination to me. Why are they not protesting? Seems something for feminists to latch on to. Ill have to write jezebel or something
Women’s hockey is basically USA-Canada and the drama that brings.
I don’t understand. I thought Hockey was Ice Fighting. With out that you might as well just have figure skating with a puck.
I don’t think I have ever watched women’s hockey. It has been a long time since I have watched hockey seriously, but when I was in college, I preferred the olympic game to the NHL by miles.
Seemed a little tame to me compared to the few mens hockey games i saw. Then again most womens team sports seem worse to me than ments with the exception of volleyball
Women’s game can get pretty disgusting. They only change their pads after 3 periods…..

Amazon removes one-star reviews from Hillary Clinton’s new book
larf!
***
Amazon was on the defensive end this week after receiving criticism for deleting negative reviews of Hillary Clinton’s new book.
The online retail giant acknowledged its decision to remove one-star reviews of Clinton’s memoir, What Happened, claiming they have the right to uphold reviews from legitimate customers.
“In the case of a memoir, the subject of the book is the author and their views,” an Amazon spokesperson told Fortune. “It’s not our role to decide what a customer would view as helpful or unhelpful in making their decision. We do however have mechanisms in place to ensure that the voices of many do not drown out the voices of a few and we remove customer reviews that violate our community guidelines.”
For the week of Sept. 3, What Happened is sixth on the most sold non-ficition list. As of Friday morning, Clinton’s memoir had five out five stars from 609 reviews.
ReviewMeta, a website that analyzes the authenticity of Amazon reviews, said that 25% of reviewers of Clinton’s book were “suspicious,” a designation it gives to reviewers who have only reviewed one title.

It’s in the wrong category. It should be in “Fiction -> Humor -> Self Parody”
Since my big project for this site is taking so long, I threw a quick article to the editors in hopes of not looking like a slacker.
Then I went to sift through the kitbash images so far. I’ve taken 61 photographs, and I’m not even done with the project.
Mind you, a good number of those are duplicates of a shot to try to get the best angle and focus. But I’ve ended up combinging some into sets of multiples, where a progression image will have up to six photographs stacked in it. And I still have fourteen images.
Since that’s been cleaned up a bit, I can go resume the actual project work.
This morning I saw at a wreck yard/used car dealership a Mini Cooper with the sticker price $2800. Is that even possible? It was not bent in half or anything.
Does it have a “salvage” title?
Those things have been around for a long time; I would hope you could get a thoroughly used (but not completely ratfucked) Mini for that, by now.
I have no idea. They are closed on Sunday so there was nobody to talk to. knowing pretty much nothing about the cars, I was under the impression they were a more expensive sort of vehicle.
Yikes. I am guessing a drowned car.
Aaah. Could be. If a place would be healthy for a drowned car it is here. We have humidity in the negative zone. Dry as RBG’s cooch around here.

With the help of journalist Isaac Don Levine and literary agent Paul Wohl, Krivitsky produced an inside account of Stalin’s underhanded methods. His account appeared in book form as In Stalin’s Secret Service (UK title: I Was Stalin’s Agent), published on November 15, 1939,[3][4] after appearing first in sensational serial form in April 1939 in the top magazine of the time, the Saturday Evening Post. (The title had appeared as a phrase in an article written by Reiss’ wife on the first anniversary of her husband’s assassination: “Reiss… had been in Stalin’s secret service for many years and knew what fate to expect.”[5]) The book received a tepid review by the very influential New York Times.[6]
Violently attacked by the Left in America, Krivitsky was vindicated when a Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact (which he predicted) was signed in August 1939.

Ha, ha, ha! That entry was hilarious. I visited Cambodia in the late 90’s. I felt like I was on acid for the first several days it was so bizarre. The mass murder was still very palpable there. Fuck that British clown. I hope he knew it was the Khmer Rouge as he was taking his last breaths.
North American journalists are pampered, partisan bitches.
And I can’t believe sports writers still smugly deride Grapes.
Right. He’s enormously popular among the icky public.

Lol, you are the best Tulpa ever, Tres.
They’ve utterly destroyed their own credibility. It’s a good thing.
I would hope so but you can’t underestimate the stupidity of your average Joe. The Charlottesville thing really brought that home for me. It was so obvious that the violence was 99% instigated by Antifa (with the cops facilitating) and all my coworkers (pretty apolitical for the most part) were incapable of interpreting the events beyond the ‘ZOMG you guyz; Nazis!!’ that it left me dumbfounded. Most people want to be told what to believe; unfortunately credibility has little to do with it.
That is no shit.
Not long ago someone told me I was wasting time here. I told them that on more than one occasion it was pretty clear that things said by this commentariat were picked up and ended up in the national spotlight and I even suspected one of the things I said. Maybe. They wanted to know what it was I said.
Hillary Clinton has held two jobs since she left the white house flat broke, both public jobs which paid less than 200K per year and yet she is worth over 100M bucks.
A few days later Trump repeated my lines word for word in a campaign speech. Maybe it is one of those things so obvious that it just gives birth to itself. maybe, maybe not. In any case I am not wasting time talking to a bunch of people smarter than I am.
Then, completely missing the point, they launched into a spirited defense of Hillary’s graft.
*facepalm*
/emails Suthen’s comment to Alex Jones
I dont keep up with Jones except to keep tabs on how the frogs are doing. What? Did he say it too?
As I said, it is such an obvious thing that I am amazed that everyone wasn’t pointing it out the day after she said she and Slick Willy were broke when they left the white house with all of the silverware.
The “we were broke” thing was utter nonsense that the pinko media would have crucified an R over. Kinda like Biden’s racist remarks and Obama mocking the disabled it just gets memory holed and you average bloke is none the wiser.
Tom Woods’ “3×5 index card of allowable opinion” is a pretty good catch phrase. Most people treat political opinions like a smorgess board; pick what you want but only what is offered. It’s rare that you find someone whom has really thought through issues and taken ideas to their logical conclusions. Even rarer when said person is NOT a libertarian.
“Most people want to be told what to believe”
This, or even what to like and who to associate with. Go along to get along. This is how you get REAL Nazis.
I get triggered when I hear phrases like “against their own interest,” basically a thinly veiled euphemism for “get in line plebs”
A lot of that ‘middle americans are stupid, unsophisticated, deplorable rubes’ comes from people that consider themselves elites; FBI agents cheating on their spouses and texting each other with something that sounds like it came from Teen Beat magazine, presidential candidates that enable sexual predators and take bribes, congress critters that cant speak english and lobbyists that think squash soup is something no one as sophisticated as they are has ever heard of.
Having met a few of those types I can say honestly that I was impressed, just not in the way they wanted me to be.
I can’t say I’ve ever met anyone who could be considered a DC insider but I have definitely spent time around wealthy coastal elites (and far too many of their urban, hipster spawn) so I am intimately familiar with the ignorance, hubris and condescension that is rampant in those circles. I swear it amazes me that some of those people ever became wealthy, other than making money they are total know nothing’s.
I remember back after Hillary first lost the election, there was this guy on Youtube who kept railing against dumb deplorables and saying how he was an elitist who was so far above those flyover country cretins that they were unworthy to even address him. I think it was 4Chan who identified the guy as the person who fixed flat tires at Jiffy Lube, or something like that, and didn’t graduate from high school.
“against their own interest”
That was basically the whole thesis of “What’s the Matter With Kansas?”
According to Franks’ view of the world, middle-class midwesterners should vote Democratic. Since they didn’t, this was an anomaly to be investigated. Not once did he, or friendly reviewers, ever consider they were wrong.
I saw that book in my asshole step grandfather’s stack of books like 10 yearsnago…funny thing is he went from bluedog Dem to reading Michael Savage in the last few years. He was demented but I think even he saw the commie’s mask slipping
What year, if a year could be put on it, did the left take over the Democratic party? I think this has been going on for a long time, but the complete takeover happened during the Obama years.
Thats when they decided that they loved the smell of their own farts more than anything. They really started to believe that the rubes were pacified and would vote the way they were told. Trump’s election was the ultimate Nelson Munce *ha-ha.

Relevant for Glibertarians: “Candy is dandy/But liquor is quicker.”

From a Trumpalo vs. Antifa video
T: We need police to enforce laws.
A: We don’t need laws to have rules.
T: Who’s gonna enforce the rules?
A: What kind of rules are there that people won’t follow voluntarily?
T: Don’t steal? Don’t kill?
A: Crime is caused by poverty and trauma.
And that’s where I threw up my hands in exasperation.

Who would bother trying to debate Antifa members? Those people are batshit crazy, every one of them.
“A: We don’t need laws to have rules.”
How long does a person of even modest intelligence need to ponder that before deciding just how terrible the idea is? So, that person really wants to live in a society where there are no laws, but rules, which obviously can and will be made up and enforced by the people who have power at the moment, by nothing more than a whim. Yeah, ok, sure, nothing could possibly go wrong.
What makes it funnier is whenever Antifa get their asses kicked they whine for the police and screech “hey, that is NOT cool man!”
I forgot my favorite antifa moment
antifa: I do not consent to being filmed.
trumpalo: Aren’t you an anarchist?
Well they, or the right TOP MEN, would be in charge of enforcing said rules and they are infallible, just ask them.
He’s right, though. We have plenty of rules that exist outside of law. Etiquette, for instance, and customs in general, are just rules that a society has chosen to follow over time. Of course the difference is that, generally, those rules aren’t considered important enough to use force to punish the violators, which is why people do stuff like let doors slam in people’s faces, butt in line, etc., but tend not to do things like murder, steal, or rape. Or, more to the point, you’ll probably see more people being rude or violating social norms this week than you will raping and killing, I hope. If not, you should move.
Of course, there’s the rules that define polite society. But I think this guy is talking anarchy and the belief that everyone will just behave themselves, I mean after we’ve sent all the deporables to camps.
Argue all you want over deep dish, or ham & pineapple on it, but Little Caesar’s tastes like shit
Pizza! Pissa!
As a medical-type person, would you think that if rodent poo were contaminated with some bacteria, the time in the oven would make them less infectious?
As a non-medical-type person, it depends on the bacteria. Some bacteria will produce toxins that survive heat (such as botulism), so you’ll kill the bacteria, but the food would still be toxic to eat.
Well, in the world of air pollution testing that I operate in, Medical Waste Incinerators have a microbial “survivabilty” test performed (generally only on new designs) that uses Bacillus Stearothermophilus as a surrogate. But the general rule of thumb is “1300º F with a 2-second gas retention time”. That tends to make the regualtor-types happy that you arent infecting the surrounding area.
Not much more to add, other than most oven temps are pretty low so it would take significant time to kill all the bugs, and any toxins, as Neph said, would still be there. Plus, I’m guessing that an onsite autoclave would cut into their thin pizza’s thin margins.
How in hell did it get in the crust? Dough is left in the walk in fridge in tubs to rise. It is taken from the tubs to the prep table, tossed or rolled out then placed on a pan for its ride through the pizza oven. There is no surface that the dough would be placed on where the staff wouldn’t see smart pills* plainly. Someone did that on purpose.
*My grandfather used to laugh about selling a jar of rat droppings to a kid in grammar school by convincing him that they were smart pills.

Maybe it’s the ‘Bama blood in me, but when someone doesn’t properly seal chips or cereal in my house it tilts me hard. I haven’t physically attacked anyone over it, but I won’t take any options off the table.

I think that it’s hard to put pride in your appearance when you’re mentally disturbed.
She may be suicidal. I can’t really think of a better way to commit suicide outside of fighting with cops, than going into a gun store and attacking the owner. In the end, she chickened out, but I think she’s suicidal.
At the end of the video the police say that “they identify as male”

It may just be me, but it seems like younger people talk/behave like the black-clad fatty kid more and more often these days
e.g. where they don’t actually look people in the eye, they mumble rhetorical statements, and never answer direct questions.
whether they agree with you or not – its more just a ‘passive aggressive, unwillingness to confront anything directly, unwilling to risk being pinned down to anything specific’-manner
its like this sort of thing:
Person A: “vague, non-committal statement”
Person B: “I don’t understand. what do you mean by that?”
Person A: “what do you think i mean?”
its a form of communication where what is being said matters far less than the posture being taken;
it reminds me of this

I’m certainly late to the post, but my 2 cents is.. Media BW did their best to report news. AW they their thinking they can create the news. BW= before watergate.. AW after.
Good observation. BW the jouro heroes were Edward R Morrow or maybe Walter Cronkite. Guys who were there for the Great Events and helped us experience/understand them. AW journo schools filled with Woodward/Bernstein wannabes. They wanted to not just create the news but be the news. Reporting to aid in understanding was too mundane and beneith them.
Let’s not brand people like Cronkite as being impartial voices of the truth. He wasn’t. He was every bit as biased as many that have come along AW.
The difference is that the Woodward/Bernstein johnny-come-latelies weren’t as subtle or patient as the Cronkites and Durantys. They thought they could see the finish line and thought they could immanentize the eschaton.
History has shown that they were mistaken.
