And the snow continues to fall here, but at least it’s slowing down a bit. Maybe SP and I will drink and pretend there’s a game on. Sunday without sports is tough on us.
Worse yet, unlike yesterday, this isn’t a big news day. If you read the Foundation Trilogy, you know the structure: something happens, then the characters spend the next thirty pages talking about it before the next thing happens. Today is one of the thirty pages.
A perfect example: yesterday, Israel bombed Syria, and specifically some Iranian sites which can’t exist because Iran insists that it’s only advising Syria. Sort of like how the US just advises people in Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq… In any case, the news today is everyone talking about it and talking about it.
There is absolutely nothing in this story that makes sense. But it’s still funny.
The headline promised more than the story delivered.

Here’s my hope: some paranoid schizophrenic thinks these messages are from the CIA to him, goes to Pepsico headquarters, and shoots up the marketing department.

Old Guy Music. When I lived in Austin, my Tuesday night ritual was to cross the river and plop myself in a chair at Flipnotics and watch Erik Hokkanen shred on violin, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and anything else with strings. Over the course of an evening, you’d hear jazz, gypsy swing, Texas swing, bluegrass, and… well, about any genre you could imagine. The coffee and snacks were terrible, but the music was fantastic. Flips is sadly gone, but Erik is still around, along with Ryan Gould, the best slap bass player in a generation. This was recorded at one of the shows I attended- sorry for the abrupt cutoff at the end, fucking hipsters don’t know how to do video correctly.

Heartbreaking Footage Of Africans Being Sold At Open-Air Slave Markets In Libya
There’s something missing about this article, but I just can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s like my memory has been wiped clean with something.
I love how their is a sub-header which reads ‘Conspiracy Theories’ yet there is no mention of the very real and very evil people who are directly responsible for the current situation in Libya.
It’s all Trump’s fault.
This isnt anything new. Mauritania outlawed slavery in the early 1970’s but no one there pays any attention to it. Slavery is widespread in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia etc. This is usually ignored while bitching and whining about a country that effectively outlawed slavery is rampant.
But don’t you dare call these places shitholes..

Belarus still has Communism:
Lukashenko announced a new law in 2014 that will prohibit kolkhoz workers (around 9% of total work force) from leaving their jobs at will—a change of job and living location will require permission from governors. The law was compared with serfdom by Lukashenko himself.[117][118] Similar regulations were introduced for the forestry industry in 2012.[119]

It was kind of interesting watching “Who do you think you are?”, I think the Emmitt Smith one, where they follow him back to Africa, to the slave market where his ancestors were likely sold. Naturally, he reflects on how terrible this must have been as he tries to imagine it. Then they tell him that slaves are still sold there today. The look on his face priceless, because like most Americans, they believe slavery ended after the Civil War.

My parents have lived in a Conservative neighborhood for decades; I’ve always accommodated pedestrians in the middle of the street on the Sabbath by lugging around those blocks in first gear, but I’m still the uber-goy (blond/blue/well over six foot/German sedan) and feel like an imposition, an intruder, as I’m mindfully, dutifully, uniformly ignored there…..which is what I expect of most Yankees: our howdies and ‘mornings at everyone known or not is probably ridiculous.
The Reformed congregation last night was extremely cozy and relaxed, but I have no idea what they believe or what’s important; it was more like moving in a Seinfeld episode than anything. It’s just a party, so it doesn’t matter, of course….whatever; like I said: Woodford.

I’ve often wondered about dirigible use for heavy lift delivery, either point-to-point or to a local hub. Autonomous motor vehicles terrify me for any number of reasons and I keep trying to convince myself that it is all some temporary folly or crowd madness.
the problem you’ll run into there is the cost/scarcity of helium.

I do like the idea of dirigibles for heavy lift/long distance (non-time sensitive) with newer nano-materials, etc. “Diamond Age” by Stephenson had some great proposals. I’d sure love the idea of luxury cabin travel in the air on my own time.
Autonomous vehicles are under-intelligent, apt to be poorly programmed, and will lack judgment, intuition, and heritage/culture insights in critical interstate and four-way stop situations.

Maybe we should be electing them rather than letting them drive around? They sound like an improvement over our ruling class.
I spent the best parts of 20 years as a “Tier I” supplier to the automotive OEM: we’re the guys who dream up, prototype, test, tool, manufacture, and deliver all the cool things on their cars and their commercials. Integrated circuits and complex sequencing and routing became the norm in the last millennium, and I was managing the implementation of such programs on heavy trucks.
So I’ve seen the problematic controller networks, the high turn-over in engineers, the struggle to document and manage corporate knowledge………….to say nothing of simple programming mistakes and tuning loops…all to do things that could be done for less money just using “outdated” switches and relays and limits and so-on and so-on: too big, too bulky, too slow, not granular enough….everyone needs 19 different gradations of blower mode between full-defrost and full-floor, right?
However, I’ve also driven all over the world, and people are idiots. Muh fantansy is muh roads: privately-owned interstates where everyone keeps right strictly or you are simply lose your access…..you’re banned from mein bahn unless you can drive as intelligently as a 20-year-old German.
In my last days in Texas, they had speed limits of 85MPH on some stretches, but traffic was not speeding up: people were wandering around (like they always do) at whatever speeds they are comfy with (like they always do), so now I’ve got these Texas badasses doing 72 in the lefthand lane of an 85. “Permission to fire?” Oh please oh please let me vanquish these boobs.
So I’m just not sure if I hate machines or people more. I like me and my machines.
No one needs 19 different grades of blower mode.
/Bernie
I’m good with competition, of course.
But I felt there was money to be made making things more cost-effective, and the industry is running the other way. We should have been using our muscle to simplify equipment, streamline projects and their costs.
What I mean by blower mode stupidity: there were three modes (foot, face, defrost). Then came the half-modes, so a new total of five. Then bi-level became a standard in the seventies, so seven. The last project I worked on included a $40 switch to provide 19…..which provides zero incremental functionality that any client could ever sense/recognize. Beaucoup bucks went down that development rathole and made that truck more expensive, pointlessly so.
The firms I worked for and supplied (to) missed, I believe, a chance to deliver equipment that was just as good but at deeply reduced costs. I absolutely believe that the only thing that continued to improve in my decades in the business was crash-worthiness.
@Don Escaped Texas:
I agree. I think the controls on modern automobiles have gotten way too complicated.
The blower setting on my car is an electronic button with six or seven settings, and cycling through them requires me to take my eyes off the road for several seconds while I find the setting I want. Also, the electronic display becomes very slow in extreme cold – ya know, the very moment when I’m trying to find the right heater setting.
That car is an ’06 Accord. My previous car, a ’96 Accord, had a knob for the heater setting. All you had to do was look down, flip it to the setting you wanted, and put your eyes back on the road. It took much less time than the fancy-schmancy electronic setup.
I think it’s just one more instance of people thinking that more gadgetry = better product.
One of the things I like about our FJ Cruisers is the simple controls. You can do just about everything in the dark with mittens.
Ack yes. My ’14 Ram at work has round climate control knobs with no physical orientation so I have to look to see where it’s at. Contract my personal ’02 F150 with blade type knobs that I can adjust without taking my eyes off the road. Same with the radio controls. Touchpad controls are even worse. You might as well pull over to manipulate those.
No one needs 19 different grades of blower mode.
I would settle for one that actually defrosted a windshield.

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) said on Saturday that President Trump’s views on sexual misconduct and domestic abuse are “beyond rehabilitation,” after he appeared to raise questions about such allegations.
“The new mantra is ‘We believe the women,’ and he is frozen in ‘I believe the men.'” Speier told The Washington Post in an interview. “He’s beyond rehabilitation in my view.”
Speier’s comments came after Trump declared Saturday morning that there is a lack of “Due Process” for men who are accused of domestic abuse and sexual misconduct, and that such allegations had “shattered and destroyed” people’s lives.

Five people were arrested as fights broke out and at least one American flag was burned Saturday after a college Republican rally in Seattle drew counter-protesters.
College Republicans at the University of Washington had invited members of Patriot Prayer, a group in Vancouver, Wash., to speak in the university’s Red Square for a “freedom rally,” the Seattle Times reported.
The goals were to bring conservatives together and promote free-speech rights, College Republicans President Chevy Swanson told the Times. As the event got underway, supporters chanted “U-S-A!, U-S-A!,” and signs included one that read, “We died for liberty not socialism.”
But more than 1,000 counter-protesters showed up to oppose the event.
“I learned that they thought my vote was a hate crime,” Kathryn Townsend, who said she voted for Donald Trump in 2016, told Seattle’s Q13 Fox.
Some counter-protesters voiced their goals.
“We’re here to fight back against the far right and fascism on our campus,” one counter-protester said.
Added another: “I’m not a fan of the president, and these people are fans. So I want to come out here and say this is not OK. And what you’re doing is not OK.”
After several skirmishes broke out, police responded with pepper spray. University of Washington police said those arrested were charged with disorderly conduct.

Former Obama campaign manager says ‘all public pollsters should be shot’

Jim Messina, a former campaign manager for Barack Obama, apparently isn’t one to mince words.
During an appearance Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Messina spoke about the irrelevance of public polls so early in an election year, Mediaite reported.
Then he underscored the point to host Joe Scarborough.
“Joe, you know how I feel about public polls,” he said. “I think all public pollsters should be shot.”
Messina said there were other, more important yardsticks at this point to determine a candidate’s viability.
“What you care more about is passion and intensity,” he said. “When I ran President Obama’s campaign, the number I looked at every day was intensity. Are my voters more motivated than Republican voters?”
He said in the interview that “our voters are more intense,” the report said.
Messina said recent Democratic electoral performances in Missouri, New Jersey and Virginia demonstrate that intensity levels are in the Democrats,’ the Washington Times reported.
A recent column by Fox News contributor Jen Kerns, however, may have revealed the source of Messina’s frustration.
According to Kerns, new polling shows that Democrats have lost a recent 15-point lead over Republicans, dropping to only a 2-point lead heading toward the 2018 midterms.

What a novel concept
The country’s health care tab came in at a whopping $664.9 billion in 2016 — 17.9 percent of GDP. We spend $10,348 per person, per year, nearly twice the average of other modern economies. Yet despite the fortune spent, we still don’t have better health outcomes, and our national political dialogue is crippled by debate over who should pay the budget-busting health care tab.
Instead of squabbling over who pays the skyrocketing bills, lawmakers should redirect the discussion to prices and ways of reducing the massive costs within the health care system.
Here are four ways to reduce national health care costs. If just one of these fixes were implemented, it would save billions of health care dollars annually.
————–
If we agree that the goal is to provide health care to all Americans, then we need to take a closer look at why health care is so expensive and ways to make it more affordable. If we can reduce the cost of health care, then the debate about who pays the bills — whether its paid for through private insurance, government funded health care, or some other way — becomes mostly irrelevant.
Look at actual costs, and ways to reduce them? Crazy talk.
Single-payer law, with no lawyer earning more than minimum wage because, after all, none of them does anything worth more than minimum wage.
How do they calculate that $664.9b figure? Is that insurance money spent? Hospital revenue? Does it include dentists or eye doctors? “Health care” is such a nebulous term.
16% had been the trend for a while. It’s probably just total sales of various SIC codes; I don’t doubt it.
The same people who want lawmakers to do something about healthcare costs will want lawmakers to do something about plummeting incomes after they “fix” healthcare. One guy’s expensive dick drug, runaway waste, or overspending is somebody else’s boat payment.
I take issue with lawyer cracks: mine are worth every penny. But, borne of hardy Appalachian stock, I can’t say I’ve ever had much use for doctors.
Still, I’m pretty sure medicine is yet another market that doesn’t need “help.”
Middle class Americans pay about 20% income tax. In Europe, a similar income person pays about 45% income tax. All of that for shitty rationed healthcare. No thanks.
I’m sure we see it the same way: I’m not arguing that government waste should be protected because it’s a good salary for someone.
I’m am arguing that, after we deregulate medicine, it will still be incredibly expensive, and then Congress should do something about it will be the cry. Nothing will change except that instead of carping about Medicare fraud, they’ll beef about whether caddie fees should be deductible for pharma reps, MRI cost too much, etc.
The demand for unreasonable expectations of protection against pain and mortality will always be inelastic, so the high costs and the complaints are never going away.
Deregulate medicine and you will see costs fall through the board. It is ridiculously expensive to develop new medications due to the regulations. A company could spend millions on a study, provide exactly what was needed, and still have the FDA not approve it.
As a result, pharmaceutical and device companies choose not to pursue an extraordinary amount of viable products simply because it’s not worth the regulatory risk. Take that risk away and you’ll see the market flooded with competitive options, driving down prices.
When you have things as absurd as certificates of need, you know you have a lot of work to do.
R&D budgets are in the billions for Pharma companies.
There’s lots of thing wrong with medicine in the USA. But not having enough regulation is not one of them. First of all, medicine in this country really hasn’t changed too much in the past 100 years. The system is fucking archaic. It needs a top down overhaul. We need a more wellness and prevention based system, instead of just treating symptoms, work on cures and treating aging. Second, it’s incredibly cronyized. The insurance companies, hospitals, pharm companies, local, state, and federal governments all colluding to fuck things up and make it as expensive as possible, so everyone can get their beaks wet.
The problem is, is that they don’t figure in all the tax payer money spent on single payer systems. That’s how they come to the conclusion that America spends more, because we don’t have an enormous tax levied on people to pay healthcare. Dishonest lying motherfuckers can go to hell.
Does it include orthodontists? Because last time I was in the UK, well, let’s just say they probably are spending less on their teeth.
“nearly twice the average of other modern economy”
How many times are they going to repeat this lie? They don’t figure in the huge amount of taxes that help pay for it. Someone needs to call these assholes on this bullshit.
End the monopolistic guild protection of healthcare. Let any person see whoever they want and purchase anything they want with a prescription, including overseas medication. We’d never have this discussion of over-priced healthcare again.
There will still be plenty of physicians with medical degrees and accredited hospitals to visit. Competitive pressure will drop pricing and make them price-transparent. Perhaps most insurers would require a prescription to cover meds, but the option would always be there to pay out-of-pocket yourself without a scrip. Health insurance would go back to being for unforeseeable expenses as intended.
*purchase anything they want WITHOUT a prescription
Get government out of health care and costs would drop to less than half of what they are now in less than a year.
Problem solved.
+1 LASIK procedure.
It certainly helps to keep the costs down when a person dies on the waiting list in a Free Healthcare™ system rather than getting the life-saving procedure that they need. Plus, the government healthcare systems can choose to put someone on hospice care (look up “Liverpool Care Pathway”) instead of giving them treatments that might extend their lives a bit. Considering that the majority of healthcare costs occur in the last decade of life, it makes sense that this would keep costs way below the US, where people are free to spend as much money as they want on healthcare procedures. Naturally, the Free Healthcare™ advocates never bring up the fact that such a system would entail withdrawing treatment from elderly people and putting them in hospice care.
Another thing that keeps the costs down in European countries is the fact that you can usually buy things like antibiotics and birth control over the counter. Doctors in the US charge between $50 and $200 for an office visit, so yes, the healthcare costs will be higher if you make everybody pay that fee just to get rid of a sore throat or render themselves temporarily infertile.
Another thing that keeps the costs down in European countries is the fact that you can usually buy things like antibiotics and birth control over the counter.
I am not sure buying antibiotics over the counter is a good idea given the regulatory stupidity that is required to develop new antibiotics. Something something super bug. I have never bought pharmaceuticals in Europe, but I have bought them in other places. Almost everything is over the counter in the places I have been. How much do the geezers in the US spend on office visits for a prescription for meds to help them get wood? That is over the counter in many places around the world and I heard from a friend it can be very benificial when one overindulges in cheap rum, Star beer or Tsingtao depending on ones location.
Well yea, getting rid of that regulatory shitshow is a given.
We spend $10,348 per person, per year, nearly twice the average of other modern economies.
Another point along with the idea that they often aren’t counting taxes in these comparisons — the relevant prices in each country.
Whenever I point out that the US “poverty” line would be upper middle class in most of the rest of the world, my prog friends always say “but the cost of living is so much higher here, you really can’t compare the two”. Yet we can consider our healthcare costs vs other countries as apples-to-apples?
In Ireland, you need an Rx for Aleve. Aleve.
I am at a loss for words.
Instead of squabbling over who pays the skyrocketing bills, lawmakers should redirect the discussion to prices and ways of reducing the massive costs within the health care system.
Yes, end the squabbling, and once patients are paying for their own expenses, prices will become their focal point. Almost as if people spend their own money more responsibly than money they steal.
California school science project that connected race and IQ is pulled after complaints

Of about 500 students, there are a dozen African-Americans, 80 Latino students and about 100 Asian-American students, according to data from the school district that was obtained by the outlet. The program has reportedly been criticized for its lack of racial and ethnic diversity.
The student who conducted the experiment was not spoken to or identified by The Bee.
To test the proposed theory, the student had a variety of unidentified teenagers with different racial backgrounds take an internet IQ test, the outlet said.
The project’s final conclusion reportedly found that “the lower average IQs of blacks, Southeast Asians, and nonwhite Hispanics means that they are not as likely as non-Hispanic whites and Northeast Asians to be accepted into a more academically rigorous program such as HISP,” the report said. “Therefore the racial disproportionality of HISP is justified.”
…
In a Thursday email to parents, the school’s principal Peter Lambert said they were taking the “incident very seriously” and noted that the school strived to “promote and embrace an inclusive environment and way of thinking which excludes any form of discrimination.”
Chrysanthe Vidal, a senior high school student in the program, told The Bee, “I think that a lot of people, especially of color, are really hurt and upset by this.”

The Joys of Motherhood is a novel written by Buchi Emecheta. It was first published by Allison & Busby in 1979 and was reprinted in Heinemann’s African Writers Series in 2008. The basis of the novel is the “necessity for a woman to be fertile, and above all to give birth to sons”.[1] It tells the tragic story of Nnu-Ego, daughter of Nwokocha Agbadi and Ona, who had a bad fate with childbearing. This novel explores the life of a Nigerian woman, Nnu Ego. Nnu’s life centres on her children and through them, she gains the respect of her community. Traditional tribal values and customs begin to shift with increasing colonial presence and influence, pushing Ego to challenge accepted notions of “mother”, “wife”, and “woman”. Through Nnu Ego’s journey, Emecheta forces her readers to consider the dilemmas associated with adopting new ideas and practices against the inclination to cleave to tradition. In this novel, Emecheta reveals and celebrates the pleasures derived from fulfilling responsibilities related to family matters in child bearing, mothering, and nurturing activities among women. However, the author additionally highlights how the ‘joys of motherhood’ also include anxiety, obligation, and pain.

I actually feel sorry for her that she is so damaged she can’t even recognize a compliment. Although I am worried for her kids. I hope they don’t realize what a burden they are to her.
I am worried for her kids. I hope they don’t realize what a burden they are to her.
I dated a girl whose mom, in no uncertain terms, told her that she regrets not aborting her. Between that and the physically abusive alcoholic dad, the girl was all sorts of fucked up.
I agree, people shouldn’t call her mom. They should call her cunt.
Life is too short to waste energy on such people’s puerile objections.
The goals were to bring conservatives together and promote free-speech rights
This is a dastardly and completely unjustified provocation.
Its racialistic mysognism!
Racialistic misogynistic transphobism even!
Fascism if I ever saw it.
I’d love to see people just start making thoroughly bogus accusations against prominent Democrats, and then calling TEAM BLUE on their hypocrisy.
Joe Biden turned me into a NEWT!
keyword, BOGUS
TOMCATRIARCHY!!!
She “lost” years of her life because she didn’t adjust well to becoming a mother.
Huh.I wonder if my ex-girlfriend wrote that.
I never ever wanted children. So, guess what- I never got married and I never became a daddy. It’s not that complicated, really.
http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/uw-freedom-rally-turns-violent-five-arrested/697851515
I wonder why they never quite explain the platform these so-called alt-right people propose? Or the platform the protestors who come to shut their speech down are proposing?
I’ve had the same question. When friends announce they love this or that march or rally, I ask: what are they (you) marching for and generally draw a blank stare for my trouble.
People just project whatever they prefer onto every conversation and experience.
They don’t have any idea. Most of them are just malcontents who cannot find any happiness or purpose in their lives, so they think that being part of ‘the resistance’ is giving them purpose, or something like that. What normal mentally stable person is going to waste time on non-sense like that? I didn’t like Obama, but there’s no way I would go to a useless protest against him and hang around with a bunch of mentally unstable freaks and losers.
Try asking them what they’re resisting and when they say Trump, ask them what specifically Trump is doing that they’re resisting. I suspect that’s when most of them start shrieking hysterically at you. It’s like mass hysteria really.
Protesting and Resisting are odd vectors; I never have been able to sell “just do what you want to do and leave me the fuck alone.”
My mom’s a communist and her only vector is Resist. She is fixated on the 84 cents women make. She doesn’t believe my sincerity in recommending that she start whatever firm providing whatever service, hire whomever she pleases, and pay all the women more than the men….please do: pay every woman in the place twice industry norms. Knock yourself out if you’re so smart.
She doesn’t believe that I truly support her right to run her business any way she sees fit, but living the dream and building things and being your own capable self isn’t her fantasy. Tearing down successful people, telling others how to live, and bitching that no one’s giving her subsidies is all she does from the comfort of her soft couch in her warm, well-lit house paid for by the fruits of my father’s competitive efforts in the marketplace in the last century. Every convenience, vehicle, and entertainment in her life is brought to her by fierce competition, but she can’t see it.
They’re touring Cuba this spring…..wonder what “lessons” she will bring back for me from there.
Wow, sorry to hear that. My mom is a socon/neocon hybrid. Back during the gulf war, she made all us kids Desert Storm t-shirts, bless her heart. My dad is 86 and some noticeable cognitive decline is starting to set in. He watches CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News all day long and he gets it all mixed up and tells me the craziest shit. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, dad, I heard about that, you’re right’.
I still have a “These Colors Don’t Run” hat somewhere. I was so much more hawkish back then.
I was hawkish then too. But I thought the goal was to go in, decapitate the state, and say “Don’t make us come back here.” like we had been doing in South America.
That was before I realized we were in for a few decades of the worst political leadership in living memory.
“That was before I realized we were in for a few decades of the worst political leadership in living memory.”
Yeah, the Clinton, Bush, Obama era, 24 years of doing extreme damage to America.
I actually wasn’t including Clinton, and was including more than just the presidency. I’m not a fan of Clinton, but he was an effective political leader.
Set aside what they are trying to do, and just look at how effectively they are at doing it while upholding the basic tenants of our civil society. Since 9/11, our political leadership has sucked. The only major political accomplishment by *anyone* was passing Obamacare, which has worked out about as well as slamming your dick in the car door. By their own stated goals, no one has gotten anything done since 9/11.
By their own stated goals, no one has gotten anything done since 9/11.
On the contrary, they’ve restored Federal spending to >20% of GDP and they’ve restored massive budget deficits to the point where the debt is doubling every decade. The fiscally conservative moment of the late 1990s has been completely and spectacularly reversed. And what’s more, the voters don’t care. Since 9/11, there has been no politically viable caucus of fiscal conservatives.
Frankly, I’d say they accomplished their core goals with a near 100% success rate.
“I actually wasn’t including Clinton, and was including more than just the presidency. I’m not a fan of Clinton, but he was an effective political leader.”
Some of the worst laws ever passed in this country was when Clinton was in office.
Don Escapes Cuba, in theaters this Fall.
You can see on the faces of a lot of them that they’re just play-acting and having “fun”.
I guess the same reason that none of them have been able to explain any of their hysteria over the past year. When you’re going to call everyone who disagrees with you about anything, a nazi, you’ve already left reason and logic behind.
I’m not passing judgment on whether this shooting was justified, but holy shit this sheriff is a sociopath
If he was a “civilian”, or perhaps even one of the pursuing officers, I’d probably give him a pass for what he said in the immediate aftermath. Adrenaline can make one say some outrageous shit right after something really intense like that.
But this dude wasn’t even there, so he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.
From what the article says to me, the only reason any cars were damaged because the police were ramming the suspect car. No description of how the suspect was driving dangerously before the police started the chase. So how can the sheriff say the suspect was going to kill anybody?
Unlike most people here, I generally give the police the benefit of the doubt. But, it is part of their job to put themselves in danger so that normal citizens can be safe. They are supposed to be cool and calm (as much as anybody can be) in dangerous situations. They are supposed to be trained to handle pressure situations. But they seem to be more concerned about their safety than the publics. I see cops who panic fire at the first sign of trouble. I see aggressive behavior when restraint is warranted. The article basically say someone was executed because he might have had a suspended license and the cops were too incompetent to stop the suspect using semi-nonviolent means. Executed over a possible suspended license. Not even a confirmed suspended license.
My problem with police misconduct like this is I rarely see any doubt. The DA was wrong, this was a bad shoot. The sheriff should be in jail.
And it is a poor training issue not a racial issue.
My problem is there very rarely is no doubt.
I found this interesting article on Victor Frankl via FEE – http://www.intellectualtakeout.org/article/viktor-frankls-guide-living-life-meaning which kind of fits with the current resurgence in focus on responsibility being re-ignited by the popularity of Jordan Peterson …. and then I found out about this proposal by Frankl, which I’d never heard of before and think is a pretty cool idea – Statue of Reaponsibility to match the Statue of Liberty –
http://responsibilityfoundation.org
It’s pronounced Frahhnkl.
If you’ve never read “Man’s Search for Meaning”, you must. It’s transformative and has shaped my personal philosophy greatly.
Duly noted! Will do.
I never needed to search for meaning. I knew even in the womb that it’s all about women, whiskey, and sin. And I’ve never failed to pursue the cause.
Preach on brotha!
Amen Q. That book is incredible. Also gives insights into what REAL NAZI’s look like.
Has boobs, yes?

Top qualifications right there
He recently attempted to correlate his reintegration of ISIS fighters into Canadian society with post-war immigration singling-out Italians, Greeks and Portuguese (even though technically they were neutral in the war). He specifically compared Italians who were mistreated to what ISIS are going through.
I *get* what he was trying to say but it was horrifically awkward and a false equivalence. Not to mention someone asked him how bringing back ISIS fighters doesn’t jeopardize national security.
I kid you not.
I’d appreciate videos of some of these girls engaging in creative group sexual acts.

definitely 20
#1’s implants look bad. #26 is Jordan Carver. #39 looks like Eva Green.
Orgy.
No need to wait on Nunes, State Dept official days in an interview that he met with Steele and shared info and that Blumenthal was involved.
http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/373131-former-obama-official-confirms-steele-dossier-was-given-to-state
Here’s an additional little nugget that’s been overlooked so far (emphasis mine):
Winer insists there was nothing improper about his meetings with Steele, who was separately providing State with reports on geopolitical developments about Russia and Ukraine while he was also working for the FBI and Fusion GPS, who contracted him to dig into Trump’s background, partly on behalf of Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
But nobody in the Obama admin knew what the guy was up to…even though he was literally on their payroll. Sure thing.
“Steele, who was separately providing State with reports on geopolitical developments about Russia and Ukraine”
So DNC hatchet man is also supposedly providing intel on one of our biggest geopolitical rivals. That’s comforting.
Basically, a State Dept employee, whose work was made known directly to John Kerry, was being paid by Kerry’s predecessor and then the FBI to produce dirt on a political aspirant from an opposing party.
How is this not seen as a criminal conspiracy when the government is directly compensating people to provide dirt on political opponents?
Drain the fucking swamp!
The worst thing about this is, is that not only did they continue with this after the election was over, they doubled down on it. How is this not a coup attempt? Because it’s a fucking coup attempt. Sounds a lot like treason to me.
I’m in total agreement. This is an attempt to influence an election with government resources being commingled with those of a political party. And once the election ended, direct payments by government depts in exchange for damning information on an incoming outsider politician.
This is the kind of shit that Tom Clancy would have a hard time putting in print because of the unlikelihood of it being seen as realistic enough. Yet here we are living it and the media sits in their fucking hands as our entire basis for orderly government transfer of power is undermined from within.
And if you dig into this and get to the bottom of it, it leads to one place, the Clintons.
That couple are a stain on our nation. I only hope they and their cronies end up in prison or (metaphorically) have their heads placed on pikes at the pedestrian bridge into DC from NoVa as a warning.
Again, we should be grateful to the Clintons. They have contributed a thousand times more than Murray Rothbard did to destroy the Federal Government of the United States.
If only all the enemies of freedom were so incompetent and greedy…
William S. Burroughs wrote that eventually, Nixon would be seen as a folk hero for shattering the myth of Presidential infallibility.
Oh, come on now. I’m sure Obama read about this in the paper just like everyone else. That’s the only way he kept tabs on what his administration was doing.
Jesus….the comments.
Some people are just true believers. And by that I mean the idiots who still think Russian meddling is real and to think otherwise is ‘alt-right propaganda’.
They’re intellectually ill.
It’s all they have, they’re desperate. Without this, they have no message.
The other day I did the mistake of saying to someone ‘there’s no such thing as hate speech but just speech and it behooves us to take care in protecting freedom of speech and expression’ (a somewhat innocuous comment that applies to every single individual I think. Alas not theres days…) and the response was ‘You must be from Alberta’.
You can but pity them at this point.
At this point, the leaders on the left, having a herd of completely compliant sheep who will never question anything they throw out, should just go with ‘free speech is hate speech’. They’ll have them marching in the streets and signing petitions to repeal the first amendment. It’s very sad.
‘You must be from Alberta’.
Were you wearing a cowboy hat when you defended free speech?
Primary effect of these types of things is trolling Progs into acting crazy. And it works every time.

This is what freedom from partisan political interference looks like
In a government full of busy agencies, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) may well be the busiest. But don’t fret for its bureaucrats. In between bullying corporations and funneling vast sums of money to left-wing activist groups, the agency has also managed to undertake one of the federal government’s most outrageous office decorating projects to the tune of more than $200 million of taxpayer funds.
———–
In a revealing exchange on Capitol Hill back in 2015, Cordray was asked to explain to a House panel how on earth the renovation projects at the CFPB could cost so much money. His retort was, “And why does that matter to you?” The overarching problem with unaccountable and autonomous government agencies is that they can, without batting an eye, ask a congresswoman, “And why does that matter to you?” about hundreds of millions of wasted taxpayer dollars.
Elizabeth Warren should be proud.
“audit the CFPB”
He misspelled “eliminate”.
Why isn’t this a major scandal?
At which point Cordray should have pulled from his chair and impaled on a spike outside the hearing room. Pour encourager les autres.

space x makes NASA look kinda bad which may be rather good long term. But most likely won’t matter.
Why would the Woz want to be autopiloted across the country? Couldn’t he just fly or hire someone to drive a motorcoach?
Gee, I wonder if similar developments, along with bureaucratic bloat, have caused the recent complete breakdown of higher education?

Rand Paul is totes just a grandfather says some staffer, it’s totally not about principles or doing what you were elected to do:

Also, fuck Charlie Dent, I hope he gets the Boucher treatment himself, prick.
Grandstander….more coffee needed
Yeah, that was totally out of line. What an asshole.
Hmm, so McConnell’s hero is Henry Clay? That explains a great deal.
“it’s totally not about principles”
Rand is most definitely among the most principled person in Congress, if not THE most principled.
That’s bullshit. He’s a secret anti-capitalist. /Schultz
I thought he was Aqua Buddha.
And for another POV. Chortle, the degrees of freedom are amazing and awe-inspiring.<
Is it just me or did that make absolutely no sense at all? I mean leave the horrible writing and grammatical structure out, I have no idea what that even means. Hihn off his meds again?
You didn’t appreciate lucid and insightful commentary like
“Romney, to a degree that escapes the notice of most political journalists, was in many ways an ideological precursor to Donald Trump.”
JFC. No wonder Trump went into real estate. He’s a natural. He’s living rent free in Welch’s head.
Some things are better left unsaid.
Yikes, Welch has had one too many cocktails. If I could compare Romney to anyone, it wouldn’t be Trump, it would be take your pick of any Democrat lite squishy east coast Republican.
While trying to decipher that missive, I felt something pop in my head. I may have a brain-bleed.
Yes, I’ve been discussing Rand with Ken on that thread. Pointless I know. I just didn’t want his RP obsession to be the only take on the matter.
While TDS is a widespread epidemic, PDS seems to affect mainly Ken and Hihn. You can’t say the name Paul and expect any kind of rational response.
Yeah Hihn decided he wanted to argue with me as well, like I’m going to respond to that ahole.
The BEst. The Brightest.
PYEONGCHANG (Reuters) – U.S. broadcaster NBC apologized to South Korea’s winter Games organizing committee on Sunday after a commentator offended locals during coverage of the opening ceremony by straying into the sensitive issue of Japan-South Korean relations.
Former journalist Joshua Cooper Ramo, working as an analyst for NBC, said on-air during the Pyeongchang Games opening ceremony that all Koreans recognized that Japan had served as an important example in South Korea’s own economic transformation.
Koreans around the world criticized his remarks on social media and a petition soon circulated online. Japan, which colonized the Korean peninsula from 1910 to 1945, has left a deep legacy of mistrust and ill-feeling in South Korea.
Ramo, who has written books on China and is a director of Starbucks Corp and FedEx Corp, said as athletes paraded into the Games stadium that “every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural, technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation”.
————-
Ramo, who was also an on-air contributor for NBC during the Beijing Olympics, is co-CEO of Kissinger Associates, an advisory firm of former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
History is for chumps.
History?
You only have to talk to a Korean for about 5 minutes before you realize that they still HATE Japan. If Kim was smart, he would nuke Tokyo instead of Seoul. Most of the South Koreans would dig him after that move.
My wife is Korean, but her sister married a Japanese guy and my wife ended up getting her university degree in Japan so she is an odd Korean who gets along pretty well with the Japanese.
When we would have parties in college, we could invite Koreans or Japanese, but not both. If both of them showed up, the Korean guys would always pick fights with the Japanese.
…the Korean guys would always pick fights with the Japanese.
That would have made for hours of YouTube fun, Holiness.
Send them shampoo shopping…..

I heard that and was wondering what he was thinking.
“Why does President Trump gravitate toward wife beaters?”
NBC is on the case.
We should note what color dress Melania is wearing today, I’m sure there’s a clue there.
“Don’t talk about Matt Lauer! That’s not fair!”
I am shocked. This is my shocked face. This is what my face looks like when I am shocked.
Minneapolis ‘hate crime hot line’ dogged by dysfunction
That face in the article, that IS a hate crime. Muh eyes!
The only city dept with no #MeToo allegations and they go ahead and fire the person responsible for their success?
Also, sounds like a jobs program for the unskilled, to me.
Sounds like there was exactly 1 employee, and she was fired for not toeing the party line. She actually demanded that the government act in a respectable manor, not demand respect while behaving like a scoundrel.
Getting fired for not trampling civil rights. Life in Trumps America™.
I liked the fact that most of the people calling the hot line were complaining about the abridgment of 1st amendment rights. That is some good trolling.
Words I hate: Empower.
#MeToo. ‘We have to empower women!’. Why, I thought they were already better at everything than men?
Hello? Yes, it’s me again.
My neighbors are talking about White Privilege again. I’d like to report them as it collectivizes me and runs contrary to my own ethnic identity and lived experiences.
Sticks and stones, motherfuckers.
PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Cougars are far more social than previously thought, a Sequim scientist told a Peninsula College audience.
Gee, you can figure that out just by spending a few nights at bars.
Oh. Wrong cougar.
I was in Port Angeles once. I took the ferry from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria, BC. The Canadian Border guards in Victoria put me in the room. I’m not sure what set them off, but eventually they let me go and I got a Canadian passport stamp for my troubles.
The last time I went to Canada, I forgot my passport, so border bitch sent me inside. But I got in anyway, haha border cunt.
That’s pretty interesting. The conventional wisdom is that passport is required now. How long ago was this?
A little over a year.
Sounds like a hell of a great place. The video is good, except for being cut-off. I second the “fucking hipsters” sentiment.
We don’t push wheel chair bound grannies off a cliff like they do in Wisconsin, we just raise their rents to the point that they have to go live in a snow drift.
UNREGULATED!!!!! NO ADDITIONAL RIGHTS!!!!!
Also, after reading the article, it seems as if it is just this one facility that jacked up the rates. So most of the geezers are probably going to be OK.
I think I’ve spotted the problem.
That must be what is setting off these geezers. The article said that their rent was jumping from $2600/mo to $3000/mo. If they were getting the avg payout from the govt tit, that means that they now have to dip into their own pocket to pay the rent!!!!!
How shitty do you have to be as a person that your kids won’t help you out with the extra $4800/yr to keep you from being evicted?
Rent in Minnesoda is $3000 a month? Holy shit, maybe they can move to San Francisco, the weather is better and they can save enough on heat to make up the difference.
I figured that figure includes “assistance” – these are old-folks’ homes, right?
But anyway, all I’m seeing here is another government-funded bubble.
Yep. It happens everywhere someone is getting “free” gubmint money.
Hey dumbass, that’s because assisted living facilities basically ARE apartment buildings, just with a few things like emergency call buttons, safety rails, stair lifts, and some medical personnel on site at all times. If you want more, there are skilled nursing facilities, which are subject to very heavy regulation.
So now Chucky is huffing and puffing about Rooooshun Elekshin Hakkking. He’s got some guy saying, “IF ONE SINGLE VOTE WAS CHANGED!”
I wonder if they ‘re going to talk about requiring IDs at the polls.
The KGB circulated fake Goldwater quotes in an attempt to tilt that election. So even if the Russians did something similar this time, it’s nothing new.
The KGB also spread rumors of a communist revolution in Indonesia in order to provoke and over-reaction. They miscalculated and the govt rounded up all suspected communists and shot them.
And then there’s this:
***
When the KGB tried to blackmail Indonesian President Achmed Sukarno with videotapes of the president having sex with Russian women disguised as flight attendants, Sukarno wasn’t upset. He was pleased. He even asked for more copies of the video to show back in his country.

Meh. That anecdote is his only redeeming quality.
North Dakota State Winter Carnival Queen goes on a rampage.
My oldest altar boy goes to school at NDSU and we were just there visiting last weekend. No such excitment during our visit.
“Carnival Queen goes on a rampage”
Damnit! I thought the link would be two Brazilian samba dancers in a cat fight, and all I got was a fucking cow! I’m going to have to post more fake links to Lena Dunham naked!
Just remember that my links bring you 4 tits at a time, unlike that piker Q who only posts 2 tit pics.
Your jib… I like the cut of it, sir.
I was expecting something more like this.
Speaking of NDSU beauty queens…..
MikeS how did you let her escape to Alabama?
NDSU beauty queens
Is this some sort of Minnesoda/NoDak rivalry? Otherwise, I’d have to wonder if His Holiness needs his head checked.
some sort of Minnesoda/NoDak rivalry?
The Fargo TV series has implied this is indeed a thing.

How about, no? Men aren’t the ones who are falsely accusing other men of sexual harassment/assault/misconduct.
Oh well. Maybe feminists should’ve thought about this before constantly endorsing every single woman who accused a man of raping her. If feminists were really about equal treatment between men and women, they’d be the first to dump on the women that were proven to be lying through their teeth about being raped. You know, instead of saying “well, it opened a dialogue” and endorsing them as fellow empowered women, like, say, mattress girl.
No. There is no power imbalance. If you want promotions, guess what? You have to work for them. You want more mentorships and sponsorships? Stop the “listen and believe” movement that puts the man into being assumed guilty until proven innocent (and sometimes not even after proven innocent). Until then, you can thank feminists for limiting the future of women. Don’t blame men for taking measures to defend ourselves.
“Whatever you choose, treat women and men equally.”
OK. Women in the military will now be held to the same fitness standards as men. But wait, that would result in almost all of them getting kicked out.
“Whatever you choose, treat women and men equally.”
OK. Women athletes will now compete with men. But wait, that means the women would almost never win.
Sort of funny all this talk about toxic masculinity and the feminists wind up making women toxic instead.
My theory is that women do just as much or even more sexual harassment than men, but if the man chooses to report it at all, the HR department won’t take it seriously because it’s assumed that men always want sex from every single woman.
So Sheryl wants to have her cake and eat it to. Shocker.
Here’s the thing. If she wants it that way, if she wants to pitch a fit and take her ball and go home, then fine. What happens is people are forced to climb the ladder based on personal accomplishment with no interaction whatsoever with higher-ups. No meetings, no building of professional relationships, nothing. Workplaces become buildings full of strangers making sure they’re never in groups smaller than three. Delightful.
The alternative she’s proposing is to force people to play a game where they have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Men in authority are already in authority. They have nothing to gain from putting themselves in positions where there’s a not unreasonable chance they’ll be accused of some impropriety and suddenly have to prove that they aren’t guilty.
She’s right about the power imbalance, though. A man claiming to have been harassed by a woman (or a man, for that matter) is looking at a very different reception compared to a woman claiming to have been harassed by a man.
I look forward to Sandberg’s next rant where she demands women wear burkhas so that they can’t use their looks for personal & career gain.

Rufugee? Migrant? Which is it.
“Wait a minute, they didn’t tell me there’d be Jews here!”
All Muslims get refugee status because their countries are shitholes.
[rubs chin thoughtfully]
Send the refugees to Crown Heights. That should work out well.
Send them to Hollywood and Beverly Hills and build them micro houses on people’s lawns. The Hollywood elite totally support this idea and will pay for it.
Better yet, Kiryas Joel.

Well, it’s the JOOs fault for making him see JOO stuff. They should be charged with hate crimes. And I wouldn’t be surprised, it is Eurotardia.
The limitless evil of Trump
FLATT: The federal government estimates many millions of birds are killed every year when they collide with power lines. And several hundred thousand birds are killed by wind turbine blades, which are common along the Columbia River Gorge.
TOMPKINS: We appreciate that we need renewable-resource power development. That is a good thing. But also, the consequences of it need to be looked at.
FLATT: Wind developers have been trying to avoid these consequences and prosecution. They site wind farms away from the paths where birds migrate and shut down turbines during peak migration. Developers say they’ll continue to look out for birds despite the recent changes to the law. But environmentalists worry that won’t be the case for all energy developers. Bob Sallinger is with the Portland Audubon Society.
BOB SALLINGER: So I think we would see rapid changes in the way that certain industries do business in ways that we’d find devastating to birds.
Donald Trump is facilitating the murder of millions of birds. Because he’s evil. And he wants kkkorporations to rake in unimagineable profits.
Birds get soaked with oil and die, hate crime, killing the planet for profit. Birds get decapitated by wind turbine. Unavoidable cost of progress.
I wonder how many birds were killed by nuke plants last year…
I just want fusion to start working so that the left can rage against it, like the loons they are. IT’S GOING TO MAKE A BLACKHOLE AND SWALLOW THE PLANET!
How many of them are the Hate Birds that Hate?
I’ve been reading posts late for the past week or so here’s some thoughts on topics over that time;
Dash cams – I have one and am satisfied, I expect to always have one in all my future cars. I’m not too worried about the lack of immediate upload, being able to remove the SD card after an incident should not be a problem in most cases. I rideshare occasionally for uber/lyft and have a forward facing dashcam and thinking about adding a rearward cam to capture any passenger issues.
Columbus / OH meetup – If anyone gets around to planning this, I would be in.
Youtube – I think someone linked to the channel Hoax Hotel at some point, omg this is comedy gold, I have been binge watching this.
Happy sunday yall.
“Hoax Hotel”
If that’s the one that had the guy pretending to be Betty talking to the scammer trying to get her to send money to Western Union, that really is hilarious.
Haha yes that’s it, and much of the other videos are quality too.
Speaking of catching up on old posts:
I heartily second Lt Fish’s recommendation for Half Door Brewing. I’m in San Diego for the weekend and went there Saturday, then saw that Fish had been there on Friday (I think).
Hey Aus, I’m in Hilliard, Tres Cool is in Dayton, I think Nephilium is local. Not sure who else is in the area. Any other Glibs near Central Ohio?
I believe Nephilium is in Cleveland, he was down near/in Columbus a while back and tried to set up a meet up but I don’t think anyone made it. I live in Mansfield and would be game for a Columbus area meet up.
Nope, I’m not a C-Bus person. I’m in Cleveland, though I do make it down to Columbus a couple of times a year.
In Dublin, nearly in Hilliard.
Gang warfare in Chicago

But clout-based killings, according to this story, would not be as prevalent if the well-organized gangs of the 1990s had not been dismantled. Though more people were murdered in the ’90s, the killings were mainly in connection to the drug business.
If someone stole from the gang or tried to take territory, etc., the decision to kill went through a chain of command before any order was issued. Unsanctioned killing for personal reasons would often result in a beating.
“Anybody arguing, anybody fighting, anybody doing any ol’ type of thing you was gunna get yo head split, man — get your ass beat really bad,” said a former Black Disciple from the 1990s.
The reason for this is simple. Killings were met with retaliation, and this increases the chances of a full-scale gang war. Such a severe level of fighting would drive away customers because of the threat of arrests or catching a stray bullet. A gang leader making six figures wasn’t going to tolerate his bottom line being affected by some petty feud between two teenagers.
Apparently, these killings and wars were also done in a way to avoid innocents being killed, according to many former gang members and residents from that period. Residents would be warned to stay out of certain areas before a war broke out. And a gang member wouldn’t be shot when near his family or other innocents.
Once this hierarchy broke down, fragmented gangs simply began chasing clout, and killings were perpetrated in a way that put innocents at greater risk.

To them, a white male in his 20s walking the streets of Austin at that time of night could only be a cop. And to be fair, that’s true … most of the time. Austin is 93-percent black, a prime example of Chicago’s infamous and destructive pattern of segregation.
…
There were 762 murders in 2016. 88 were in Austin.

Sorry, Russia Is Not the Biggest Threat to Our Elections—Facebook and YouTube Are
Silicon Valley algorithms help spread conspiracy theories peddled by sloppy American journalists.

Americans who care about democracy and voting should stop jumping to conclusions about Russians hunkered down in Moscow cyber-bunkers, and instead look at what’s happening on these shores as shoddy journalists and Silicon Valley’s content curators are doing Vladimir Putin’s work for him.
Last week, a mini-drama played out in the world of American elections, Russian interference and vote-hacking conspiracies that was a microcosm of the same online dynamics that tilted and force-fed American voters seven times as much Hillary-hating propaganda on YouTube as comparable anti-Trump content.

Yeah, if there’s anything Silicon Valley is known for, it’s for being a hotbed of alt-right conspiracy mongers.
Well yeah, I’ve always heard that the SV tech companies are all full of radical libertarians.
Yeah, those damn libertarians have the media, academia, Hollywood, and public sector unions all locked up, which is incredible considering how few of them there are.
I mean it would be true, except that there’s only one Peter Thiel. Besides him, I think it’s just progs all the way down.
The old-school hackers had a rep for being somewhat libertarian, but those days are long gone.
The hackers in the movie Sneakers are far left:

^…as five minutes wasted at slashdot will confirm.
I’m talking pre-Slashdot.
Yeah, I know, I’m referring to the turn the community has taken. Slashdot used to be almost apolitical, but that changed several years ago. Now it’s like Karl Marx in drag talking about .NET.
Indeed. Look at someone like Eric S Raymond.
Has anyone actually seen any of the “deep fakes” stuff? I saw some over on 4chan and if that was a representative sample then the tech is definitely not “there” yet. Lots of artifacts, major uncanny valley feel to it all, and it’s so weird and out of context that I mostly couldn’t tell what celebrity it was supposed to be.
I havn’t seen any and really don’t care to. I lack the trait of obsessing over media/hollywood/political personalities in such a way to fantasize about them having fake sex. Not that I wouldn’t watch Poppy in a real gang bang for research and all, but fake poppy in a gang bang is not my thing. Throw in the fact last weekends link to this phenomenon stated some people are doing Michelle Obama deep fakes and that is just not something even I want to be associated with and I pretty much lack any morals when it comes to such degeneracy.

Well, at least they are beginning to understand how money acts as an incentive.
Bang up job, progs.
Sounds smart to me.
Um…
I’ll pay $101 if they do fight.

Once democratic institutions are hollowed out, a process begun before the election of Trump, despotism is inevitable. The press is shackled. Corruption and theft take place on a massive scale. The rights and needs of citizens are irrelevant. Dissent is criminalized. Militarized police monitor, seize and detain Americans without probable cause. The rituals of democracy become farce. This is the road we are traveling. It is a road that leads to internal collapse and tyranny, and we are very far down it.

Yep, we might as well be living in Venezuela.

Venezuelans rush to the border as Colombia tightens controls
Thousands of Venezuelans have rushed to border crossings with Colombia after Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced a tightening of controls.
Only those who have registered for a special border card or can produce a passport will be able to cross.
They fear it will become more difficult for them to enter Colombia once the measures are fully implemented.
Thousands of Venezuelans cross into Colombia daily to look for temporary work or to buy essential goods.
Most of them return home, but the Colombian government expects many more to stay permanently as Venezuela’s economic crisis worsens.
Venezuela has suffered for years from high inflation and the chronic shortage of food and medicines.

But enough about the CFPB.
I’m not sure I would describe the press as “shackled”, but if they are then the shadowy overlords have done a pretty shit job of it because they seem to be able to lie their asses off with virtually no repercussions.

SLEMAN, Indonesia – Police in Indonesia shot a sword-wielding man who attacked a church congregation during Sunday Mass, injuring four people, including a German priest.
The reason for the attack Sunday morning in Sleman district in Yogyakarta province was not immediately clear. The 22-year-old attacker decapitated statues of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary during the incident, photos showed.
Churches are a common target for Islamic militants in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation.

HBO, already the home of Bill Maher, has taken another step to the left by signing a group of former aides to President Barack Obama to create a series of specials.
“Pod Save America” co-hosts and Crooked Media founders Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett and Tommy Vietor will create a series of hourlong specials from the campaign trail to coincide with the 2018 midterm elections. Favreau, Lovett and Vietor are former Obama staffers who were often referred to as the “Obama bros” during their tenure in the White House.
They have since launched Crooked Media and host the popular anti-Trump podcast “Pod Save America,” which will hit the road leading up to the midterms – giving the hosts, and now HBO, a chance to promote a liberal agenda with voters.

“Crooked Media”
At least they are going with a more honest name.
“hourlong specials from the campaign trail”
I am sure everyone is on the edge of their seats
I’m not going to link the article, but here’s a paragraph from it. The idiocy coming out of Hollywood is astounding. This asshat should stay over there.
I can only imagine the audience in these situations snickering at our useful idiots behind their backs.
I doubt it is behind their backs
There’s a lot I’ll forgive Bobby D for on the basis of his performance in Goodfellas, but Christ on a crutch, I wish he’d climb out of his own ass and stop talking politics.
I wonder how much energy his various Tribeca and Hamptons spreads use.
Doesn’t matter, as long as you go along with everything the left wants and join the resistance , no one over there will criticize you for being a hypocrite. Just signaling in the right way is all that counts.

Totally not active participation in a political campaign, subject to review and regulation by the Federal Election Commission. Just harmless “entertainment”.
Love the use of the passive voice by WaPo headline. Rather than saying “Iranian military shoots down Israeli jet” they say “Israeli jet downed by Iranian anti-aircraft fire” as if it was a fucking accident.
