National Signing Day was yesterday, and as much as ESPN tried to hype up their beloved SEC, only one of the top seven teams were from there. And maybe its just me, but I sure do seem to remember a lot of those 5-start ratings of Georgia signees being 4-stars a couple months ago. I’m amazed at how much better those guys got once they gave their verbal to Georgia. Whatever, I couldn’t possibly care less. Ohio State reloaded at all the positions they needed, they kept their Defensive Coordinator and they haven’t lost to TTUN in more than six years. They should walk away feeling happy as a pig in shit.
Speaking of Ohio State being happy, holy shit, did any of you catch that game with (#3) Purdue last night? Talk about guts. Don’t believe me…have a look for yourself by scrolling down to the game tracker and win probability chart. I had all but given up with about 10 minutes left, but decided to hang in there and see what happened. Let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised. No way does last year’s team finish games like that. Holtmann has to be seriously considered for coach of the year. Oh, and elsewhere, top-ranked Villanova also fell. Virginia came back to beat FSU. Texas Tech rolled. aTm took down Auburn. UNLV took down Nevada. And Miami was better than Wake Forest.
On the ice, just three games. Toronto took down the Nashville Predators. The Bruins throttled the Rangers in an Original Six matchup. And the Kings trumped the Oilers.
Olympics start today, I think. Who knows. If I see scores tomorrow morning, I’ll update them. Maybe. Hell, I don’t know. Tune in then to find out. But until then, enjoy this edition of…the links!
A teacher imprisoned for a consensual relationship with a pair of students is fighting back. Good for her. Its about time that law went the way of the dodo. It violates her equal protection and diminishes the agency of the adult students, or those who have reached the age of consent, in her state. Let’s hope these laws are struck down across the country, although the occasional “hot teacher mugshot” will be sadly missed around these parts.
Remember when Obama said he hadn’t asked for, nor would ever ask for any information related to the Hillary Clinton illegal-email-server-with-classified-information-on-it-in-her-basement-and-secret-addresses-to-hide-it-from-FOIA-requests scandal? Yeah, so do I. Well, texts back and forth between two of the investigators who were sleeping with each other tell a different story. And it looks like Comey is gonna get a nice little invitation back to Capitol Hill to explain if he was quibbling when he said he had only talked to Obama three times while running the FBI, and was really giving them updates on the investigation throughout.
You guys like the occasional piece of good news, right? Well try this on for size: its this kind of story that renews my faith in humanity. Seriously, it’ll choke you up.
We’ve talked plenty about the two people who bought a private street in San Francisco but were forced to give it back after the wealthy denizens of the area forced them to and the interim mayor called them “bottom-feeding pirates”. Yeah, its really their fault for playing by the rules your stupid city set up and the HOA in charge of the place never paid property taxes on. Guess we know who butters his bread.
Piece of human garbage George Soros is at it again. Maybe someday he’ll take his rightful place in hell rather than trying to undermine freedom across the globe to enrich himself. Hey, maybe he’ll see some of the Nazis there that he helped round up other Jews so long ago.
Small-government nonprofit Illinois Policy Institute appears to have been run by a con man. That’s just great. I can only imagine the headlines: small government advocates are all just trying to enrich themselves. Just look at the head of the Illinois Policy Institute! Thanks a lot, asshole.
Remember when Vice was a cool place to get news? Remember when they had takes worth reading and/or watching? Those days appear to be long gone. Look for them to go the way of Newsweek in the very near future as investors bail out. I guess there is only so much room out there for Neo-progressive hot takes. Don’t believe me? Look at their main page.
People tired of getting loads of free shit from Amazon. Hey, forward them to me! I don’t even care if some yahoo in China is doing it to write reviews of their own stuff. I’ll find a use for it.
Here’s a little advice to those people above.
Good luck out there, friends!

People are stupid. “Libertarians are fascist because they defend free speech” has got to be the most argument of our times. It’s disturbing how many people just parrot it without thinking.
Reading down a bit, that guy thinks that people who support the freedom of speech, the right bears arms, and small government are also total-state fascist. I don’t think the word “Nazi” means what he thinks it means.
Not to nit pick, but I really want to know what word you omitted after “most”.
Asinine? That seems to fit.
Wait I thought everyone was Tulpa.
Does that mean that Hitler is Tulpa?
Literally.
Or does it mean Tulpa is Hitler?
Well, the expectation is “around 8am real people time”, so when you post 8 minutes before the expectation, only the early people might see it.

I have two volumes in book form of their Dos and Donts. Some hilarious stuff there. That was when McInnes was writing most of them.

““Every time I see a woman in public reading a book by a man (usually dead, usually white), I fantasize about offering her a book by a woman instead.” BACK TALK author @d_lazarin shared 6 must-reads by women, for women,”
https://twitter.com/PenguinBooks/status/960549899573096454
Every time I see a woman (or man) reading a book in public, I …leave them alone out of courtesy.
Lol. Penguin just published Jordan P’s new book.
Hey, sexist, racist bitch, most people choose what they want to read based on the merits of their work. I know you can’t compete on merit, but your bigotry has no place in the market.
Everytime I read a tweet like that I want to whack the tweeter on the back of the head with a paperback.
You’re nicer than I am, my impulse is more in line with “How do I make it look like an accident?”
I went on a trip recently and forgot my Kindle. I can’t sleep without reading something first, so I bought a paperback as a stop gap.
Can’t believe how horrible reading a paperback is now after being spoiled by my Paperwhite. Fucking having to turn on a light. Flipping pages. Ugh!
Hitting a doofus with a paperback is the only use case I can think of where a paperback is superior.
LOVE LOVE LOVE my Paperwhite.
My kids still prefer reading on paper, like most of their peers, although my daughter does like the Paperwhite in a pinch.
I want my physical page-turn buttons back. The Voyage “not quite real buttons” drives me nuts. I wish they’d release a kindle keyboard with an updated screen. That would be my perfect kindle.
+1 for the paperwhite. I do miss the physical buttons from my 2nd generation Kindle, but it’s a minor quibble for a wholly superior product.
The only thing superior about the paperwhite is the screen.
That can be backported to the superior form factor of the kindle keyboard (and get rid of the touch control nonsense) to make the best possible kindle.
Piling on for physical buttons on the paperwhite. The only thing that is missing.
My wife was the most upset at the reversion to a real book. She is no longer used to me having a reading lamp on when we are going to sleep. She was super happy when the Kindle re-appeared.
Oh, and a hardcover is better for hitting people.
Incidentally, if anything ever happens to your kindle, you can get a refurbished one at a good price, sometimes trading in the old one for a discount. One of my screens got crushed in a carry-on mishap and Amazon was great at getting me a cheap replacement.
That was posted by an effin’ publisher?
Somebody needs a firin’
The publisher was posting a quote by an author they’re publishing. The quote came from this person: https://twitter.com/d_lazarin
Maybe she means a woman like Ayn Rand
Yeah, but she’s white so she might as well be a man.
So not a romance amongst them. Say what you will about the genre, but it is wholly the purview of women (Nicholas Sparks doesn’t count because there is no happily ever after) and the most dollars-raker-inner of genre fiction. I RTd with snark. Expect an avalanche of pissed-off romance writers to hop on her.
She writes respectable fiction, see? Not trash. She won the Glimmer Train Family Matters Award, goddammit!
Actually that blurb tells me she writes stuff to appeal to the social sensibilities of gatekeepers, but which lack mass-market appeal. So I’d wager she’s got a serious case of envy.
Litrachoor.
She doesn’t know genre fiction blockbuster trash subsidizes litrachoor.
In otherwords she has sold fewer books in her career than a dead white man like Twain still does in a week
Ayup. Betcha she reads it as a guilty pleasure and doesn’t tell anyone. Even SJWs who are out of the rom-reading closet “acknowledge” it as a guilty pleasure.
Me? I’m proud of my trash.
Ermahgerd. Her husband reviewed her book on Goodreads.
I need more reviews…
Now you made me realize I need to get back to writing. Still can’t figure out how to find more customers outside of my existing readership.
Sell your soul.
I am told regular email newsletter writing. I have a bunch of subscribers bug haven’t written one newsletter after the one promising I would write some.
I am trying something different, which is knocking out a bunch of what’s hot right now filling a subsub niche in a subsub genre under a different name I will not associate with my already-established brand.
Also, link me the book and I’ll review it on my blog.
That strikes me as a catch 22. A newsletter can only go out to people you’ve already identified, which means until you reach the citical mass where it grows on your own the question of how to find people remains.
My last response was to the first Mojeaux response.
As for the direct link, it’s Any of these but ‘Shadowboy’ is the first of the series and probably the best starting point.
(The omnibus is on sale right now and contains the other four, but that is, well, four books worth)
The idea is to use the email to build to critical mass. All you need is a couple of superfans. I don’t know what you write, but hit up @morlockpublishing and/or @ClarkHat and/or anybody in #helicoptertwitter.
That’s the hard nut to crack… and one that I could never solve. Free book giveaways helped the most but never lasted long after the initial rush. Blogging and even having a large number of books out there didn’t help much either.
I still get a few sales a month but nothing near what I wanted/hoped for.
And a lot of that is on me – I wrote stuff that I wanted to read, and didn’t chase the popular ebook genres, like romance.
I’m not sure the whole “Bodice Ripper written by the Dread Lord of the Wasteland” thing would resonate in the current social milieu.
“Bodice Ripper written by the Dread Lord of the Wasteland”
I’d read it.
@Lord Humungus
I did the same.
Linky to your books plz?
Given the craziness of the world, that may actually sell better than expected.
@SugarFree
Ditto.
Reviews would probably condemn it as more than a little rapey.
Just sayin’.
But then who knows? The backlash against toxic masculinity and ‘rape culture’ might be severe enough that Harlequin launches a whole new imprint to cater for the demand for ‘real rape stories’.

Pay for advertising. I’ve seen some brand of e-reader (kindle, I think) that a relative owns that always displays ads for books when in “standby” mode. I’m sure e-readers also use big data for targeted advertising, so you could probably buy ads targeted specifically at your target demo. If the advertising works, you won’t have to advertise in future, because word of mouth/return customers will carry you the rest of the way. Advertising is most effective in making people aware of something they’ve never heard of before.
I’ve never seen the appeal of twitter, and these days part of me wonders how fast I’d get myself banned for wrongthink.
At first I thought his review was crap, because there’s no substance, but then realized that the book must have no substance either.
I’m also of a mind that he didn’t actually read the book, but put up the review because it was the path of least resistance.
Yes, but how many did she sell?
She’s in the Top 20,000 in sales on Amazon.

U.S. will never win another gold medal.
Tom Woods actually had strength coach Mark Rippetoe on his show a week or so ago, and they discussed this budding movement to license and regulate the coaching of strength training. Naturally, this effort is spearheaded by professional organizations of other strength coaches. It’s a perfect example of how the push for more regulation originates from big players in the industry who want to crush competitors, not from consumers who want better quality services.
Also, Mark Rippetoe’s Starting Strength program is great, and anyone who wants to get into weight lifting would do well to start there.
With sexism running wild in the Olympics and the reporting thereof (and it may be, I don’t know), I’d think the writer could find a demeaning quote a little more recent than 12 years ago.
Jordan Peterson certainly hit some hornet’s nest. Because every half-wit with a keyboard is trotting out their “concerns” about him. And they all share the same approach, argument by assertion and repetition with scattered references to each other’s same unsupported conclusions.
In this edition, a music writer shares his thoughts on the subject, including this doozy.

Be honest: Which was the better part of NSD for you. The high ranked class, or how mediocre Michigan’s class was (and how they lost their best recruit to Georgia)?
Honestly? Our haul. We had a few must-get guys at key positions. We got all of them.
Also, fuck Michigan.

Woo-hoo! #64, take that Toledo!

“‘I Cheated On My Boyfriend With My Rapist’
By seducing my assaulter, I was reclaiming the control I’d lost over my body and identity.
When my uni friends planned to reunite and go dancing a few months after we’d moved off campus (most of us back in our parents’ suburban homes), I was excited. I didn’t think twice about the invitation to join one friend’s family for dinner beforehand, even though it meant seeing her brother—the one with whom I shared a disturbing history. My denial was so strong, so effective, that I could sit a few feet away from him like it was no big deal, laughing, chatting, eating lasagna.
After dinner, it became clear that the brother would be joining us at the bar and, strangely, I started to escalate my small talk to flirtation. It was like shifting into an autopilot mode I didn’t know existed. Without a clear thought or strategy, I drank enough to soften my focus and banish my inhibitions, but not so much that I lost control. I knew where I was and how to get to safety. I could pinpoint my friends on the dance floor—the better to dodge them as moved closer and closer to my assailant. Eventually I suggested we go back to his apartment.
Oddly, being back in bed with him didn’t scare me. We rolled around and made out in the bottom half of a bunk bed. It was all very PG; the way I might have behaved with a high school crush. He didn’t push for more and I didn’t offer. I woke to find three friends rousing on his grungy sofa and shooting me confused looks—they were friendly with my pretty serious boyfriend.
I knew I should be ashamed and, frankly, worried that my boyfriend—who I’d been with for a year and would go on to date for another three—would find out. But I was neither. Instead, I felt like I’d scratched a hard-to-reach itch. Cheating wasn’t something I took lightly, but whatever deep-seated need I’d satisfied that night was more important than fidelity. An obscure yet palpable sense of relief drove away any hint of guilt before it could take hold.””

at least the boyfriend escaped eventually.
But then the clock started ticking on when she would decide that he raped her as well.
*waves to a phalanx of therapists*
She is over here!
50 Shades of Crazy.
I’m generally skeptical of therapy, but this girl needs a lot of therapy. And her fiancé needs to run for his fucking life.
Mind wipe. Just start with a clean slate. It’s for the best.
So, she likes to get drunk and hook up, but evades responsibility by calling it rape after the fact.
Hopefully the friends did her boyfriend a solid and told him so he could know how crazy she is.
They dated for two more years, so no one was looking out for him at all.
Ha for a minute I thought uni was some new gender I’d never heard of.
Everyone knows it’s sea urchin.
Way back – I knew two gals who decided to “get even” with this pushy douchebag guy by… *drum roll* having sex with him. I’m sure he was traumatized by the experience and even learned his lesson.
They even had a competition to see which one “got even” with him the most.
Women … they so compete-y.
Everything was black, until it wasn’t. Coming to felt like swimming up from the depths of a murky pond. When I reached the surface, I found a reality scarier than the darkness. I was on my stomach on an air mattress on a dorm room floor. A man crushed me from above, thrusting into me roughly from behind. With a blurry glimpse over my shoulder, I registered the face of a close friend’s brother. My leaden brain, slowly grinding back to full consciousness, struggled to push away unwanted questions: How did I get here? Did I say yes to this?
That isn’t how it works, that’s not how any of this works! Being blackout drunk doesn’t work like being asleep.
By the way, that encounter reads exactly like the first chapter of The Rules of Attraction, by Bret Easton Ellis.
This is just dogshit.

Just like those other leaders, he wrote, “I have been compensated for my hard work.”

Yep. The original Putin.
George Soros really is a Bond Villain. The shit he has done and gotten away with, makes him look like a more competent version of Blofeld and Goldfinger combined.
Do the French still have a warrant out for him?
His native Hungary does. The government also has billboards up and runs ads calling out his actions. The EU isn’t pleased and calls it a shocking display of anti-Semitism, although Israel approved of the ads and their message.
Calling out a Nazi collaborator is anti-Semitism?
Soros is still nominally Jewish.
BY that standard, it would be anti-Semitic to pursue a case against Bugsy Siegel.
It’s the EU. Logic has nothing to do with it.
Israel did send Meyer Lansky back. Sounds like they might extradite Soros too if he ever came to visit.
Much as I hate Soros, I do have to continue to call this out as bullshit. He was 13 when Germany occupied Hungary. Told to get a list of names from the Jewish Council (the real collaborators) and deliver them, showed them to his dad, dad told him to deliver the names but add to each one that if they report as requested they’d be deported, and never went back to that.
He then posed as the son of a member of the Hungarian collaborationist government (who also had a Jewish wife he had in hiding) for the rest of the war.
I agree, but then, in the current climate, people without Soros’ right-think politics get called Nazis for far, far, far, far, far less.
I think maybe Soros is not really as innocent as all that.
The Hungarian government’s ads are calling out the things that Soros funds and the shady ways he tries to manipulate currency markets, not any of the Nazi nonsense.

Speaking of Ohio State being happy, holy shit, did any of you catch that game with (#3) Purdue last night? Talk about guts. Don’t believe me…have a look for yourself by scrolling down to the game tracker and win probability chart.
*sigh* I knew it was coming. Purdue has been playing like shit since IU, and it was gonna catch up to us at some point. Of course it had to be against the one team that could actually take away the chance at back-to-back B1G titles. This Purdue team can be a national title contender if they work out a few kinks between now and March.
They needed to go low post more in the second half when OSU went with a small lineup. Eat a bunch of clock on each possession. Instead they played perimeter ball and made a few sloppy passes, which cost them momentum.
The problem with going to the low post against a small lineup is that Haas is too slow to get the ball set and get a shot up before a quick double team crashes on him. He’s a turnover machine against smaller lineups.
The huge issue that has been plaguing this team since November has been giving up too many offensive rebounds to the other team. I mean, how the hell did KBD get this rebound???
These too-early links are making me thirsty.

Jesus, what a horrible article. How is Peterson wrong? What specific beliefs of his are incorrect, and why? The gutless SOB wouldn’t attach a name to the piece.
What people like this seem to fail to realize is that a large part of his appeal is that he says “fuck you” to attempts to shame him into silence. So they respond by…attempting to shame him into silence by calling him a racist. OK, that’ll work.
It’s also hilarious that they fail to realize that that’s the main appeal of Trump. But that’s a little less hilarious, since…you know.
We all got what they deserve? Good and hard?
Peterson is not just another troll, narcissist or blowhard whose arguments are fatally compromised by bad faith, petulance, intellectual laziness and blatant bigotry.
No, he’s much worse than even that!

That’s what makes him so dangerous.. That and how he is eloquent and able to make the proggies look like the idiots they are all while staying calm and not being fazed by their usual tactics of accusing anyone that disagrees of being a monster for not holding approved prog-think values.
lol
this is literally the author’s ‘expert witness’. she gets quotes/interviews with 3 people. one is a fellow prog scribbler who already called Peterson ‘stupid‘ in print. the other is a ‘teaching assistant’ and part-time artist. The SPLC functions as her sole attempt at speaking to any ‘authoritative’ source. Of course she picks the one organization that routinely finds Neo-Hitlers under every rock.
T. Southey is Dave Foley’s ex-wife.
She’s certifiable.
Pull out an interview with him and Rogan. He talks about her. Pure nut.
Newsradio: Most under rated show ever!
It’s telling how desperately the left wants to convince the public that “cultural Marxism” (quotations often theirs) is nothing more than a bogeyman emerging from the fevered dreams of right-wing cranks.
The long march through the institutions is just a new fitness regimen, guys! Really, it is!
They really don’t like the term. https://mic.com/articles/187776/jordan-peterson-is-the-rising-self-help-guru-of-young-conservatives-heres-what-hes-telling-them#.tDs98d3kM
Ugh.
Can they mount a constructive rebuttal without misrepresentations and outright smugness?
That was asked in jest, right?
“Peterson first earned international notoriety in November 2017 as the University of Toronto professor who refused to use gender-neutral pronouns after the introduction of a Canadian bill that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity. Peterson railed against the bill as a totalitarian crackdown on free speech. He threatened a hunger strike if he were jailed for not using someone’s preferred pronouns, although a letter from the Canadian Bar Association found that interpreting the law as Peterson did is “a misunderstanding of human rights and hate crimes legislation.”
Motherfucker.
Bill C-16 absolutely threatens speech and already has.
It’s unconstitutional. Without doubt. If someone is charged under it and takes it to the SC they will win.
Look at you, pretending you have a government structure up there that is constitutional in nature. How cute. Snoochi boochi boo. Le snoochi boochi la sacre bloo.
My coworker is blaming trump for the $9 increase in our health insurance payroll deduction.
Whenever I bring up the tax cut I know she got, she just ignores me. Since today is payday I think I’ll have a little fun this morning.
This week’s pay is the first to reflect the tax cut. Looks like I’m getting to keep an extra $3,600 a year. Crumbs, I know.
I don’t understand why, but my paycheck 2 weeks ago reflected the tax cut.
Some companies pay ahead, some pay retroactively.
Ok so she finally acknowledged she got more in her paycheck. Though she said the insurance trump increased offsets the tax cut. Which isn’t true so I did the math with her. Then she said well taxes are going back up next year and I explained how the bill is effective for the next 9 or 10 years.
That these people are allowed to vote and effect my life is rage inducing
And she’s a nice lady. My rage is not focused on her, it’s on the liars in the media that most people listen too. I mean, if you have a busy life and your only sources of news are “respected” outlets like npr and CNN, how are you supposed to stay informed?
And the people that tell those lies count on the media reinforcing them for them…
Check out the recruit rankings of my beloved Longhorns. UT is BACK!!!!11!!!!1
Hope springs eternal.
I will now spend 8 months in giddy anticipation and then try and drink myself to death sometime in mid September when it turns out the horns are not back.
Two OT losses last year and the OU game wasn’t a blowout. There’s hope.
Oh there’s definitely hope, but there are a lot of holes to fill. The loss of Elliot, Hill, and Jefferson is going to seriously cripple the defense. You also can’t overlook Dickson leaving early either. That guy is quite literally the best punter in the history of college football. The fact that our opponents always had a long field and were often pinned inside the 10 (often even inside the 5) was a critical component of the resurgent Longhorns defense.
I do think the future looks bright, but then again I’ve thought the future looked bright in each of our previous shitty seasons.
Bermuda becomes first country in world to repeal same-sex marriage
something something triangle
Why are “European Court Rulings” even being regarded as a factor in a carribean (okay, near-carribean) country?
British Protectorate
And? That’s a reason for the band to play “Hail Brittania” from time to time, not to kowtow to brussels.
Duh, Any fule kno it’s not Hail Brittania they play, it’s the Horst Windsor Lied.
probably because it’s a British overseas territory and not a country.
Then the Irish Times should fix that headline.
fair enough.
maybe they have an issue with recognizing British rule over places other than Britain? or maybe they just have a typical journalists’ relationship with accuracy.
Give Bermuda back to the Bermudans
Wouldn’t returning the island back to the natives have big time financial repercussions?
I’m not an investor, but if this was to happen, wouldn’t it be time to short Burmuda?
Not even that near.
Just call is mid-atlantic.
Remember that time that Russian warships were feaured at the Democratic National Convention?
///Muh Russia.

Soros and Obama are seditious enemies of the people and state.
But keep harping on the Koch brothers progs.
The investor is one of three senior figures linked to the Remain-supporting campaign group Best for Britain who plan to launch a nationwide advertising campaign this month, which they hope will lead to a second referendum to keep Britain in the EU.
“Keep voting until we get the desired result. Only then is the vote final.”
An FBI informant connected to the Uranium One controversy told three congressional committees in a written statement that Moscow routed millions of dollars to America with the expectation it would be used to benefit Bill Clinton’s charitable efforts while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quarterbacked a “reset” in US-Russian relations.
SJWs always project, as they say. The Trump campaign/Presidency is being “investigated” for something that Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama actually did.
The whole Russia collusion story is so they can distract the public from abuses of power that went on during the Obama years, under his watch and orders, that they figured would never come to light when She that shall not be named won and doubled down on more of that shit. Nixon called: he wants a redo.
The fact is that the left ran Nixon out of office for asking people to do what became common practice for the Obama admin, and would have become even more pronounced with that old hag in the WH. Do you wonder why no enterprising journo in the LSM has basically taken this fight up, considering the career making boon from basically letting the public know how corrupt the Obama admin was and the deep state remains, or can we basically point out these people are just dnc operatives with bylines?
Oh, such subtlety…”Give us money, and we will give you what you want.”
I am sure this will…

Jail the Guilty, Repeal FISA
Headline says it all.
I couldn’t agree more, it’ll never happen.
Nice article, short and to the point
My view then and now is that the FISA court creates an irresistible temptation to political abuse and that officials would interpret any procedural safeguards accordingly.
Each according to their means, each according their ability.
Mike Freeman – the county attorney who can’t decide if police officer Mohamed Noor should be charged for shooting Justine Damond – shows so much courage in charging a different cop with excessive force.
Why do I think that the only reason this cop is being charged is because Freeman knows he will get off easily? After reading what happened, I am not sure why they charged the guy. And you know he must be innocent because the body cam video from the cop is actually available.
Cadillac, BMW. Potato, potahto.
IT WAS COMING RIGHT AT HIM!
Mike, your NoDak gov is a big wuss!
Why else would he repay our wonderful Minnesoda utility company for Super Bowl tickets? Doesn’t he know that he should just dummy up and let this all blow over?
p.s. Your gov looks pretty greasy, but his wife is welcome to visit Minnesoda any time she wants.
All you do to me is talk talk…
*crawls over to the link*
Meh, not bad for a female mammal. Although she is one bolt-on procedure from greatness. I recommend going straight to super bike class
She is living in NoDak. The wind never stops blowing there. If she bolted on those air foils she would be spun like a top any time she ventured outside. Low air resistance is the key to surviving on the plains in that shithole.
So he’s repaying it after he was caught? Sure, that’s it works with everyone else’s expense policy.
If his wife is like mine, I bet it is pretty chilly in Bismark right now.
“I TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULDN’T EXPENSE SUPERBOWL TICKETS!!!! Now we are on the hook for $37K FOR A STUPID FOOTBALL GAME!!!”
My wife always freaks out when she sees my business expenses show up on the credit card statement. I always have to assure her that we will be repaid and not to worry (and then figure out a way to take care of those totally inappropriate charges on my own).

Syria war: US bombs government forces after Deir al-Zour attack
Yay, we’ll get a war in Syria with a nuclear armed power yet. It really is bound to happen sooner or later even if just by accident.
“Unprovoked attack” in Syria. The Hatfields and McCoys would like to explain how this shit works.
“You can’t be on this side of the river?!”
*boom*
I keep forgetting – what are we trying to accomplish there?
Not abandon the Kurds like we did the last many times.
I think that’s pretty much it. The strike was also likely a warning to Turkey.
“Arab fighters”
I wonder who they could be.
“Faster” male Uber drivers earn more than females in U.S.: study

Process more passengers per hour, earn more dollars per hour.
Earn enough to pay off the speeding ticket and still come out ahead.
Are you trying to tell me that 2+2=4 you patriarchal shit-lord? That’s just gender-normative math.
::predicts Uber management climbdown in humiliated defeat in … 3,2,1::
2 of the 3 researchers on the paper work at uber.
::predicts two firings, followed by Uber management climbdown in humiliated defeat in … 3,2,1::
Econlog had an article on that study yesterday or the day before. In a big surprise to no one, they actually covered the conclusions better than that article. Driving faster was 1 of 3 factors that made the difference and wasn’t the biggest one. The biggest one was amount of experience, in that men drive more and more experienced uber drivers figure out how to make more. Men were also more willing to drive in the peak paying hours.
http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2018/02/male_uber_drive.html
It’s not fair. Uber should raise the fare get riding with a woman to make it equal.
So you’re saying women can’t drive in more lucrative locations. I’m thinking red light districts and frat parties.
It is not that they can’t, its that they choose not to.
Yet more gender pay gap in action.
Yes when using your quaint conveyance systems I have gotten especially frustrated at slow drivers. TRUE DOMINEERING SPECIES ALWAYS GO IN HOT!
My mother would make a killing. She’s 73 and drives like she’s on a NASCAR track.
In circles?
Since I usually hear numbers in the 20-30% range thrown around for the “gender pay gap”, 7% would seem to make Uber the most “equal” company in America.
Today was last night in Korea. US mixed pairs curling defeated the not-Russians from Russia.

“A New Exhibit Explores the Art and Identity of Queer Muslims”
“How Trans People Are Reclaiming Religious Naming Ceremonies” …..how do you “reclaim” something that isn’t just yours to do whatever you want with in the first place?

Art made before they were thrown off buildings or stoned to death would probably be relevant for an exhibit.
I thought “Drop like a stone” was the performance art they were going to showcase.
Artwork often goes up in value if the artist meets an untimely demise, so the patrons have a vested interest in supporting this genre of work.

For those in the Southeast corner of Ohio, I’ll be heading down there for a couple of weeks to participate in Hoop and Stick Con down at Ravenwood Castle. A weekend long board game convention in a castle (that also happens to be a bed and breakfast). If anyone in the area wants to meet up, I can probably sneak away for a bit.
Isn’t the SE corner of Ohio Charleston, WV?
The southeast corner of Ohio is Columbus. If you go any futher east, you get into Northwest West Virginia/North Kentucky. The border is a little hazy and disputed.

Hey, if you have another games column, or want to do a report from the CON, let me know!
#NERDTOO
I do… I had a work trip last week and was tied up for the entire time. I’ll see what I can gather down at the Castle, considering they also have a summer convention, I don’t think they’ll mind a Family Friendly blog write up. 🙂
Just for you Lord Humungus.
Yeah that will get the ladies…
None of y’all watched Nancy Pelosi’s 8 hour marathon speech on DACA yesterday?
#GoNancyGo
I understand it is a house record. The last record was set in 1909…by Nancy Pelosi.
http://www.badum-tish.com/
8 hour speech. Hillary and Huma – H is the 8th letter. 88 is the lesbian 69. Clearly Pelosi is giving us a teaser of an upcoming leaked video.
You have no idea of the depths of my hatred for you right now.
I’m just trying to tie all the rugs together.
I think she really meant to only speak for a minute – but forgot she’d already been speaking for a while.
No. I had to get a pimple on my ass lanced instead.
Wait – not had to – preferred to.
Did you name it Nancy?
Yes. Love the part where she claims her grandson ‘wishes’ he was ‘brown like Antonio’.
Bigoted story right there.
He probably wishes he was born into a different family, anyway.
What happened to telling the kids to be happy with whom they are???
California and the definition of insanity: Why do Democrats love tax hikes so much?
My guess is that they despise the middle class (who ultimately pay those taxes one way or another). The rich will avoid them and the proles don’t make enough for it to matter to them.
The Outer Party had it the worst in 1984. Inner Party was safe and nobody cared what the Proles did.
“they despise the middle class”
Yes. They have been trying to destroy it for 100 years. Impoverished peasants are much easier to control and they, themselves never envision they’ll be anything other than the elite.
California is already seeing residents and businesses flee the state because of its sky-high taxes. Yet unbelievably, two Democratic state assemblymen have proposed to more than double the state business tax – hiking it from 8.84 percent to 18.84 percent
Uh huh…
The rationale for the giant tax hike? Denying the companies tax savings from the federal income tax cuts
Please do it. You are a shining example of how to not run a state.
(who ultimately pay those taxes one way or another)
I’ve been trying to stress to my lefty (ie card-carry democrat that supported TheBern! before toeing the party line and supporting Hilldawg) that a corporate tax cut translates in to lower cost goods/services for consumers because, ultimately, the tax on business earnings is merely a cost transferred to consumers.
Unless it is a tax hike on rich people not getting to take all their deductions.

First things first. I need to get #2 and #9 together and improve #2’s taste in beer. Then, once the important things are over with, orgy.
Eagles parade today. Streets and bars already packed. Free Bud Light too (which is good, no actual beer so the fans can’t get too drunk). 3 million+ expected.
Fuck, wish I could be there.
Eagles are a bunch of cultural appropriators. Shame!
No work today. It’s an unofficial holiday here in the city of drunken brothers.
Drunk yet?
Buzzed, looking to maintain throughout the day.
I bought a 2-DVD set of Season 1 of Stranger Things on Ebay from an American seller… and it was a bootleg. Video was compressed, titles were cheap, and the printing on the back of the box – white lettering on a picture that had a partially white background – was poorly done. I reported this to Ebay…. but the listing is still up.
Its about time that law went the way of the dodo.
I have mixed feelings about this. In principle, I completely agree. In practice? I don’t know. I’ll give 20:1 odds that any repeal will not be applied uniformly regardless of sex. So, woman teacher has affair with male student? “You go girl! Way to be a cougar!” Guy teacher has affair with female student? “Lock the pervert up!”.
The Police hit hardest.
I disagree. When the student is past the age of consent and gives consent, it is not rape/sexual assault and should not be treated as such, but it still strikes me as an abuse of power. Most teachers are employees of the state, and most states make school attendance compulsory. Allowing agents of the state to seduce their wards should not be allowed.
This.

I hold out hope that someday we’ll have a President who realizes what an unbelievable miscarriage of justice this is and pardon him. I can dream.
It’s abhorrent that someone would receive life in prison for providing a platform where people can buy and sell
It’s like prosecuting the automaker for the car that transports drugs.
Or the Federal Government for building the road down to Mexico.
I said the other day Ulbricht hanged himself after conviction. I was thinking of this guy.
Take Bill-O with him, just for fun.
I’m stopping now because my brain can’t take any more.
Most people can’t grok freedom
SoCons are slightly less insane progs
^^^Yes. Same instincts for control, just slightly more restrained because they don’t 100% worship the state.
Only because the state doesn’t worship them.
Oh, what’s a few more when I’m already dead inside.
[Ed note: WTF?]
NOW I’m done, because after that last one I feel like slicing my wrists open.
With freedom comes responsibility. These people want neither.
There are certain expectations that people living in civilization need to adhere to. It is very naive to believe that everyone can do their own thing to an unlimited extent and you can still have a cohesive society.i
IOW, “the progs are right but are doing it the wrong way.”
They just found three headless bodies in front of a morgue in Mexico.
That was caused by Ross? Or was it the legalized drug trade in Mexico?
The drugs themselves did it. It’s a little known side effect.
Not much smarter than progs are they?
Keep licking those boots, eventually big daddy government will love you back.
“As the morals of this country disappear, the country will continue to decline and eventually it will collapse. Then it is going to be a violent free-for-all.”
Meh, I don’t completely disagree with this, from a certain point of view. I think that immoral behavior is, in absence of the government dole, self correcting.
Take sloth and gluttony.

A private charity is going to ask this guy to lose about 200 pounds before they start giving him free food. They’re going to ask him to sell his collection of video games and sweet anime figurines on eBay before they give him money for electricity. They’re going to ask him to move to a studio apartment before they star subsidizing his rent. They’re going to want to see bank statements before any money comes to him at all.
The government does none of that. This fat fuck who no insurance company would or should cover at a cheap rate is a poor victim who needs copious amounts of “government “(i.e. the wealth of the productive) money.
That’s the whole point. In absence of government coersion/interference, these things find their own solutions. I don’t think for a second that getting addicted to smack is a good idea. However, it is not the government’s job to try and prevent it. Either the user will use responsibly (as people did with Laudanum 100 years ago), they’ll become hopelessly addicted and die, or they’ll become hopelessly addicted and find help from private entities like family and charities. In no scenario should that person, or the person who sold the heroin, be put in a cage.

So brave. There is no greater way to speak ‘truth to power’ then by literally covering up and excusing away the wrongdoings of the FBI, IRS, and CIA. These alphabet soup organizations are what guarantee freedom. Why don’t you like freedom?
but it was debunked!
Right-wing media obsesses over FBI text message story; hours later it’s debunked
And yet no mention of the Grassley memo which confirmed the Nunes memo
I don’t… think that proves what they think it proves.
People familiar with the matter
Sorry, I’ll wait for someone who puts their name and their actual “familiarity” with the matter on public record.
Obama’s desire to be kept abreast on the FBI’s investigation into Russian election meddling
Still makes Obama a liar for saying he wasn’t in contact with FBI. And it also involves Obama in the actual scandal here, which was illegal FBI/DOJ surveillance based on a fraudulent warrant application.
So, yeah, totes exonerates everybody. What a pack of morons.
https://abackwoodsconservative.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/cnn.jpg?w=343&h=215
So Peter Strzok and Lisa Page were also involved in the Russian meddling case? What are the odds?
Wait…They told us after the investigation was ‘reopened’ that it actually had never been closed.
Oh, what a tangled web they weave.
I think this proves that the FBI had closed the investigation long before they told us or stopped billing for it.
The whole thing was a dog and pony show. There was never any investigation. It was a foregone conclusion that she would never be charged. They all thought Herself would win the election and they didn’t want to be on her shit list…which they got on anyway.
I just cant understand why they keep painting themselves further into a corner. Lying and scheming is all they know how to do, I suppose, and they are used to getting away with it.
I want proof that Anderson Cooper is not an android.
I cant decide which is creepier; Anderson Cooper or Lester Holt. They both look like they are molded out of plastic and they are both commies.
Oh, and that Joe Scarborough. He looks like a Pixar cartoon character to me.
*shudders*
A free country cant have secret courts. It is as simple as that. No court with secret evidence, no representation for the accused, secret warrants and secret judgements is compatible with either the bill of rights or common law. The whole notion is completely absurd.
Anyone who supports the FISA act should be tossed out of office and barred for life from holding any public office.
*goes back to baking jalepeno cornbread and simmering lima beans*
I will be back later…..has the liar’s, I mean commie…I mean democrat memo been released yet?
“A free country cant have secret courts.”
Agreed. FISA reform means eliminating FISA. Spy all you want on international targets, but no more domestic spying. Too bad Rand is the only one who gives a shit about the 4th amendment.
TRUTH TO POWER..
Cooper was born in New York City, the younger son of the writer Wyatt Emory Cooper and the artist, fashion designer, writer, and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt. His maternal grandparents were millionaire equestrian Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt and socialite Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, and his maternal great-great-great-grandfather was business magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, who founded the prominent Vanderbilt shipping and railroad fortune.
Ugh. Just realized that I won’t see my 2017 bonus until Feb 24. Makes planning this year kinda complicated.
Talking to an actual communist apologist on Reddit. It’s fascinating just how stupid they are, and how they still have no other defense of communism other than “WRECKERS AND KULAKS!!!!” or “THE CORDON SANITARE IS WHAT DONE IT!!!!” or the perenially great “IT WASN’T ACTUALLY SOCIALISM”
I am now being told that Venezuela is collapsing because of the “neoliberal” policies of the previous government. Two decades of socialist control of the country has nothing to do with people eating their housepets. Apparently THE CORPORATIONS are HOARDING ALL THE FOODS.
Where would we be without the tankies?
Well, about 100,000,000 people wouldn’t have been slaughtered.
::waves hands dismissively::
Yeah, we know, but apart from that ….
They all would have died sooner or later…
Given that article someone posted yesterday that analyzed the environmental effects of Genghis Khan’s slaughter, perhaps the “tankies” are just concerned about the planet?
Watermelon: Green on the outside, genocidal maniac on the inside
Their belief is religious in nature, there’s no point in trying to reason with them.
Serious question: have you ever met a socialist that has ever read an economics book or even has rudimentary understanding of economics?
From my experience they are all well versed in sociology, but are more ignorant than a child when it comes to basic economic concepts
I think the problem here is that economics is intimately associated with sociology and psychology.
The kinds of people we revere as economists tend to be observers and historians, who pick up the evidence and draw conclusions from what they observe. Most have no prescriptive drive except to encourage us to do that which has been done successfully before, and avoid that which failed.
The kinds of people the authoritarians revere as economists are truly progressive, seeking to promote policies which rarely look like historical successes, but look potentially successful, if only the right knobs and levers are calibrated correctly. The knobs and levers are individuals, and there’s always an optimal position for every single one. Hence, socialist economists can’t ignore sociology, psychology etc, because those ARE the determinants of whether their prescription will pass or fail.
Given the infinite permutations of settings for those levers, it makes sense to blame the failure of a given policy on the calibration of the machine, and not the machine itself.
That is a pretty good analogy. I am stealing it.
It’s pretty much standard Fabian dogma.
I agree, I just never thought of the machine analogy before. I always approached it by pointing out the absurdity of the idea of the New Soviet Man. Now that you said it it seems pretty obvious, which of course is the essence of….oh never mind.
Don’t let it go to your head.
And hence their desire among the more intellectually honest ones to create the New Soviet Man when they discover that human nature prevents those levers and knobs from ever being arranged properly.
The creation of the New Soviet Man represents a simplification of the machine.
Once you have 4 classes of citizens, you have reduced one whole bank of levers to just 4 levers,
New Soviet Man
This has always indicated to me that they understand full well that their ideas fly in the face of human nature. They just don’t care and they have 100s of millions of bodies to prove it.
No, they don’t believe in a concept of human nature. A fundamental concept in any form of Marxism is that all problems are socially and societally caused and that human behaviour is infinitely malleable.
I think many of them have read some mainstream economics, but they just dismiss it as capitalist propaganda. They can’t dissect the principles and explain why they’re wrong; they’ll just argue that the whole thing was made up by evil capitalists to justify their oppressive system and it should therefore be dismissed. If you press them and ask them to disprove the ideas, they’ll just loop around and insist that it’s false logic fabricated by nefarious right-wingers.
I’ve never heard of a socialist reading any Austrian econ texts from guys like Mises or Rothbard. If they hear of these names at all, they are conditioned to, again, immediately dismiss them as right-wing propaganda.
I think the closest they’ll get is Hayek, but it will probably just be the passages from The Road to Serfdom where he states that some degree of government regulation is necessary for consumer safety so that they can throw it in your face and say, “See? Raygulayshuns are totally libertarian ‘n stuff!“
Just Das Kapital.

I enjoy your takes in the Redskin subreddit a great deal. Love seeing so many take the side of the dumpster fire front office and begin the attack of Kirk Cousin’s perceived weaknesses as a football player. Also love those same people be Alex Smith apologists who the living is the embodiment of all of Kirk Cousins shortcomings. Can’t wait to watch Alex Smith completely bomb out this year.
Not having Hill is gonna be disastrous for him. I did an analysis of Kirk, Smith, Brady, Brees and Ryan ‘s 2017 seasons with and without their respective leading receivers. No ones YPA, and TD% craters the way Smiths does. The whole “Alex Smith turned a corner!!!!” thing is entirely based on Hill. With Hill he’s a 5.1 TD%/8 YPA guy. Without him hes the same 4.2 TD%/7.15 YPA guy he always have been. Alex Smith is what Kirk haters think Kirk is.
So let’s recap – Using the 100 million figure, Communism has killed:
4x as many people as the Black Plague
2x as many people as the Spanish Flu
2x as many people as Cholera in a given year
As many people as Polio kills in 200 years
As many people as Malaria kills in 100 years
As many people as Tuberculosis kills in 50 years
The only infectious disease more deadly than Communism during its reign was smallpox which killed about 3x as many people.
So, the way I see it, as long as smallpox stays eradicated, if it were somehow possible to create a vaccine against Communist thought in exchange for getting rid of antibiotics and vaccines, it might be worth it.
There used to be a review of “The Black Book of Communism” up on goodreads which said, “Right wing propaganda.” Unfortunately, the review is gone.
We’ve been told it’s the mosquito, but if we throw in wars, I’d say government is the most efficient killer in human history. Governments play to their strength, I’ll give em that.
+1 RJ Rummel
3x-10x as many people as were killed in religious wars, conflicts, and persecution over a period of about 1000 years (10-30 million depending on who you ask)
1000 years?
Mongols have a sad that they weren’t included in the list.
In light of communism’s death toll, it’s maddening that some grey-haired coot from Vermont can call himself a socialist and actually come to nationwide prominence as a presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the current president is slandered as a Nazi for something as innocuous as enforcing immigration law (because apparently, there’s no difference between expelling people who have entered the country illegally and the wholesale internment and murder of an entire ethnic population).
So I’m looking online at a pair of jeans made by an Italian maker. They give the waist size … but no inseam.
Will I get a pair of short pants? Jeans that need to be cuffed like a Rockabilly fanatic or will they need to be tailored? WHAT??!?!?!?
Buy your jeans at the Tractor Supply Co.,, like a real man.
I was just looking! I swear… can’t a man just be curious?
Bicurious?
Rural King is also acceptable.
Man, I love shopping at Rural King.
Farm and Fleet or GTFO, richie
I thought tractor supply bought farm and fleet 15 years ago
No. Blaine’s Farm and Fleet is still around. Do you even rural, brah?
Ah, I thought you were referring to quality farm and fleet, which was bought by TSC in 2002.
I’m from Indiana, so I’ve never heard of Blain’s farm and fleet.
Ruling please, is Theisen’s acceptable?
I dont know what you are talking about. There are no Italian Jean makers as there is only one jean maker. It is an American company named after a great American, the Jewish immigrant Levi Strauss.
The last pair of 501s I bought were nothing like the jeans i had growing up. The denim seemed thinner with the new pair … and the knees had holes in ’em in a few months (no BJ jokes, please!).
Are you saying “They don’t make them like they used to”?
The Japanese fanatics bought all the old Levi looms and kept the great American jean tradition alive while the Fucking Boomers let it die off. Fortunately, there’s been a resurgence of interest by a niche US consumer market and we can once again get a decent pair of jeans in the US.
If you do want a decent pair of 501s, you need to look for 501 Shrink to Fit and then shrink them yourself. Here’s a pretty good intro to STF 501s.
Christ, I just go into the store and buy a pair of jeans. Why get all fancy with it?
Why have any hobby. Why work on a 68 jag under a shade tree instead of having a Corolla. Why eat a steak when you could just drink a protein shake.
I’d have to see if I have the names kicking around at home, but I know there’s a couple of dealers at Viva Las Vegas that deal in modern recreations of vintage jeans. I’m quite certain they’ll have online shops.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/219460631/superior-1930s-vintage-reproduction
I don’t have a need to get fancy, but I have noticed a precipitous decline in jean quality of late (meaning, last 5 years or so).
That having been said, I don’t think the problems I’m seeing with jeans today are related to a process that was developed in the 1930s and has been common since the 1960s.
Really? I bought a nice pair of jeans at express and they fit great right off of the rack and feel very well-made.
I prefer Wranglers. Sturdy and comfortable
Lee jeans, sturdy, comfortable, cheap.
^^This^^
Pro Rodeos or GTFO
Wranglers are for twelve year-olds and Lee jeans are lame. Levis are king. The fucking cowboys wore them, damn it
“So I’m looking online at a ̶p̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶j̶e̶a̶n̶s̶ ̶ purse madeby an Italian maker….”
FTFY.
I concur with Suthen, however Dickie’s are my go-to for work jeans. I was conned into Carhartt by my “buy american” colleague, and 2 pairs developed holes around the belt-loop, which only made them wholly unserviceable. So for a more durable product, sometimes 50% cheaper, I could care less if my jeans were assembled by 8 year olds in Nogales.
Carhartts are the only Khakis that last me longer than 3 months of use at work. If I rotate through about 8 (which is the number I have right now), I can get close to 3 years out of each pair.
I should have been more specific- my dissatisfaction was with their denim line. My only complaint about the canvas-duck pants from either manufacturer is that they have to be washed approximately 1,000 times to break in. I’ve never tried the Duluth Trading stuff, cause I’m not in a hurry to pay $60 for pants.
They will be long, like 36 or 38. They should indicate if they have a finished or unfinished edge. In any case, you should get them tailored by a local tailor. My advice would be to wear your biggest, baddest pair of boots and get them tailored to the appropriate length in those, and be prepared to cuff them when wearing sneakers.
Are they raw? If so, you need to figure out if you are going to wash them before you get them tailored.
Tailored… jeans?
Does not compute.
^ My thoughts exactly.
Enlightenment comes in as story of the history of technology.
In the beginning, there clothing was a mix of home-made goods and bespoke tailored clothing. There was no “off-the-rack.” Everything was made by hand off your individual measurements.
Then, JC Penny and Sears Robuck revolutionized the economy around the same time Levi Strauss revolutionized the work pant. Mail order means that clothing manufacture could be centralized and standardized. Providing 10 waste sizes mean the manufacturer needed to make 10 sizes of jeans. Providing 10 waste sizes and 5 lengths mean the manufacturer needs to make 50 sizes of pants. 10 is more economical.
All pants at the time had leg lengths of around 36 or 38 with no cuff or finished stitching, unless it was required to prevent frays like in cotton denim. You buy your pants, be them wool suit trousers or Levis, and you take them either to your wife or to your local tailor that would sew the cuff in place and cut off the excess. Or you just rock them like this if you don’t mind being knee deep in strange throwing itself at you.
That ad supported my position – no need to tailor them.

Who are you that is so wise in the ways of fashion?
Anderson Cooper’s Mom?
“Anderson Cooper’s M̵o̵m̵ partner?”
I got annoyed with my shitty jeans, same way you said your new 501s are nothing like those you got when you are a kid. Did some google searching and fell down the rabbit hole. Discovered that 1 good pair of expensive jeans that last gave me a better sense of satisfaction than a bunch of shitty jeans that wear out.
I’m trying to update my wardrobe beyond the clearance LL Bean jeans, Ralph Lauren clearance rack, and the bland Lands End long-sleeve shirts/sweaters. Been looking at a lot of brands – Armani, Versace, Burberry, Barbour, Dunhill, etc etc
Some of the prices are outrageous – at least compared to what I normally pay for clothing. But when I see a waxed hunting jacket I get the urge to buy a Land Rover.
It is a bit late in the winter…but now that you mention it….I had my eye on an Orvis Barbour Traveller.
*searches*
-This item no longer available-
Shit.
Oh man, stop. If you are willing to pay those prices, you shouldn’t be buying off the rack.
Go find a good tailor, get a full set of measurements, and then order custom clothing made-to-measure. I’ve used Modern Tailor and iTailor, but there are other good options. Read reviews online.
You design your own clothes, usually down to every detail, and someone in Asia make your exact garment to your exact measurements. It will fit one hundred times better than anything off the rack, and a good garment with a great fit looks better than a great garment with a good fit. Sweaters, shoes, etc are fine off the rack, but shirts and pants made to fit you look so much better.
I searched for “made to measure wax jacket” and there’s at least a half a dozen places that will do that for you.
thanks again!
“So I’m looking online at a pair of jeans made by an Italian maker. They give the waist size … but no inseam.”
Fureners.
In Brazil, this is typical. Most jeans, the ones not imported from Murika, are one length. Which is why there are always several tailors around wherever you shop clothing. You buy your pants and then go to the taylor to have the inseam fixed. Fureners is so backwards, like almost wild savages.
One former Obama official told CNN that the idea the text message was about the Clinton email investigation was “total nonsense,” noting that the theory did not conform with the timeline of events.
Okay, then. Case closed.
So I’m looking online at a pair of jeans made by an Italian maker.
Do they have glitter butterflies on the back pockets?
no fancy pockets!
As long as they’re tight enough to show the outline of Humungus Jr. amirite?
Well, they don’t have a crotch, so pretty much not a problem.
Covering up the codpiece is a non-starter.

Yeah, sure, this is true. I haven’t really seen a lot of the usual suspects try to dismiss this whole thing, although some have shown just general disinterest.
What a twit. It must somehow be lots of fun to go on the internet and do your best to prove your ignorance, because too many people do it.
“Well try this on for size: its this kind of story that renews my faith in humanity. Seriously, it’ll choke you up.”

OT: Is there any data on how many jobs have a pre-set wage vs. how many jobs have a wage that is determined by the immediate manager?
In thinking about this whole “wage gap” myth, it occurred to me that at most jobs I’ve had, the pay for a certain position is pre-defined for the entire company. In other words, your job title determines your pay, and there is no procedure for giving an individual worker a raise. At the factory, all the line workers got the same exact wage with regular raises for seniority, and no other factors were taken into account. It’s the same at the office where I work now – everyone in my department gets the same exact wage regardless of performance.
If a significant number of jobs determine the pay based on nothing but position and seniority, this would throw yet another wrench into the whole idea that the US is a Handmaid’s Tale dystopia where women are horribly oppressed…
Not sure, but I’d say almost all lower level jobs are set level and that there will rarely be negotiation. With more highly skilled jobs, there is also typically a set level, but there’s very often negotiation.
I had an organization pursue me for 2 years while I did a little contract work with them, but they wanted a lot more of my time. The negotiation went on for 2 years and was actually pretty silly because I told them flat out what I wanted and that I couldn’t budge on it. One day, they threw me another offer, I said no, I already told you guys what I have to have. About 10 minutes later they called me back and said ‘ok, we’ll do it’. I really wanted to asked them why they wasted all this time, but I was pretty happy about it because I was getting to that age where I felt I needed more security, with something permanent instead of 6 month contracts or just ad hoc whenever.
I think that once a corporation grows beyond a couple hundred staff, you’ll inevitably have an organization that will have a proper HR department. Whatever discretion is given to non-HR in setting salaries will be set within formalized, documented bands that protect the firm from precisely the kinds of litigation being leveled at them.
Certainly, as soon as you have staff in more than one state, you’d be foolish not having that kind of policy in place.
“proper HR department”
For some reason, I’m struggling to grasp this concept.
This once happened to me when being hired:
HR: What is your salary requirement.
Me: I need $X
HR: Our offer is $X+a little bit.
Me: Okay.
I apparently missed the band a little bit. So I knew I was at the bottom of the band for my title, but that was okay, as I thought my title was stretching things a little.
That’s exactly how my company does it. We have 4 “bands” for different position levels. The bottom level, “T” band get a set range of wages that correspond to junior employees. The band also determines the bonus amount you can receive. The bottom level can get up to 10% of their salary in bonus, the next band can get 20%, etc. all the way up to 40% at the top band (executive level).
Each band contains several positions in different departments… so the “T” level band’s wage range would be different in the sales department vs. accounting. Each position also has a median “market wage” that the company targets. The company looks at local wages for a similar position, like a junior sales associate, and targets that for our employees in that position.
Wage increases are annual in amounts from 1% – 7%. They are based on what your wage is currently at vs. the “market wage” as well as your annual performance review score (1-4, with 4 being the best).
It’s been different in every office I’ve worked at. The company I work for now (national company owned by a multinational company) has what are referred to as Pay Rates for each position. The Pay Rate is a number that you then have to look up on a scale which will show a minimum, maximum, and average pay for that Pay Rate (and whether or not that Pay Rate is eligible for bonuses). I know there was negotiations when I was hired, and when I was promoted. For the entry level positions, I believe everyone starts at the same rate, but raises would then be determined by annual reviews.
That sounds completely normal from my experience.
Where I work now, raises are determined by annual reviews, then everyone gets the exact same raise percent.
I mean, hypothetically, someone is getting a higher or lower raise, but it is very rare.
The 75±3% number that gets bandied about was derived from average pay of the workforce, with no adjustment made for factors like that, or even for “the same work”. It’s literally, the total pay of all women divided by the number of women in the workforce is 0.75±0.03 times the total pay of all men divided by the number of men in the workforce. When you do an apples-to-apples comparison, the “gap” vanishes.
I had a discussion with my mom about this at Christmas (she brought up politics, not me).
She argued that the gap does in fact exist when you compare similar jobs with similar education, and she cited the nursing occupation as an example. I was skeptical, so I looked it up. Sure enough, men and women are choosing different jobs in the nursing profession. There is a higher percentage of male nurses in cardiac care and emergency medicine, which are more lucrative but also more demanding and stressful. Females tend to choose nursing jobs that offer a 9-5 schedule.
So, whatever differences there are, are to at least some degree based on the choices made by individuals.
Shocker!
In addition to the problems you highlighted, the ~75% number also doesn’t even factor for number of hours worked (total male workforce works an average of ~5% more hours per person than total female workforce). It’s one of the most disingenuous statistics out there.
They work backward from their predetermined desired outcome, which is derived from nothing more substantive than wishful thinking. Having set their course, they ruthlessly pursue it, and woe be unto those who contradict them.
The end, as always, justifies the means.
Levi’s 501s, FTW. Also, as was stated above, shrink to fits last a lot longer than the ones subjected to the corrosive bath. Who could have guessed?
I’d like to think that the Teamster’s, Stevedores, and other unions poised to dip their collective beaks in that transportation pie would like a word. Otherwise, its “nose? Meet face.”

“Unexpectedly”. Fucking mendacious fucks.
Yeah, but working is hard. People just want to go back to Dem rule when people couldn’t get jobs and they were free to be artists.
It’s so much better for the numbers to follow expectations first, then get corrected later.
It’s a real chin-puller for me. I have 9 months of paid leave ahead of me that disappears the moment I get a job, and yet I’m anxious to exploit the demand for staff.
Yep, I’m still planning to launch this business, but the ‘pull’ of a 35.7 hr/week+bennies is powerful and unceasing.
Everyone keeps saying the Dems will win big in November. I don’t believe it. Sounds to me just like the Hillary landslide predictions. The media navel-gazing and polling themselves.
It also seems like a very stupid mistake to assure people of the landslide before they go vote. People piling on Nate Silver in 2016 when he reduced his prediction to something less than a 100% lock was a pretty big indicator that turnout would be a problem for Dems.
And Dems always have turn-out in non-Presidential years.
turn-out problems
I posted some Collective Soul in the overnight thread and it turns out Gustave, Splosives and MikeS are also fans. So I thought I would share the song that’s been in my head the last few days.
You saw my necro-comment! I feel better now. OK, since you brought this up again, I’m going to recycle them.
The first 12 seconds of this song have been my ringtone for over 10 years now.
Oh and CPRM, thanks for the new ‘Soul song! I didn’t know they had a new album out.
No prob. I try to check every year to see if they’ve released something because I know I won’t hear of it organically anymore. They’re a band that I’ve liked everything they put out, and even when I got into heavier music still enjoyed enough to keep following.
So in 2000 when I was listening to Slaves on Dope, this was also in my music rotation. Now that’s what I call diversity.
::removes CPRM, and a whole bunch of other glibs from the cool kids list::
I also like Megadeth and Merle Haggard. Do either one of those get me back on the list?
I <3 Collective Soul.
Really liked their 1st album, haven’t followed them much since then.
New Hampshire woman balks at lottery rule requiring disclosure of her identity after winning over half a billion dollars. I don’t blame her, to be honest. I would be intensely saddened to discover all the shitheels in my life.
Casefile had the story about an Aussie lottery winner who had his address published. His 9yo son was kidnapped and held for ransom. Long story short – the kid was found dead, rolled up in a rug.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graeme_Thorne_kidnapping
excuse me, 8yo.
Hey, kidnapping is a real thing and it happens quite a lot despite us not hearing about it. No fucking way I would let anyone out me if I won. I have children and grandchildren for fuck’s sake.
She screwed up though. Always get your lawyer and financial advisor stuff handled when you win that much before you cash the ticket. Her lawyer would have go the trust fund set up so its name was on the ticket, not hers. But she signed it before getting the right advice.
I think the venn diagram showing the overlap between people buying lottery tickets and people having the instinct to contact lawyer / financial advisor before going crazy would be slim.
I learned something from this story. I’ve read in the past -and thought it was good advice until now- that the very first thing you should do is sign the back so no one can steal it from you. Can’t remember where I read that. Hopefully people stop giving that advice.
I’d sign it as a trust fund I’d make up after the fact
I don’t blame her. Haven’t several lottery winners been murdered?
If I won that kind of cash, I’d be moving to NH and buying a ton of guns and primo security systems. I still wouldn’t want my name out there.
I thought you were already a hermit huddled in a cabin in the woods surrounded by guns, ammo and security systems. At least that’s always been my impression of you…
That’s my retirement plan.
You have him mixed up with me.

L O fucking L
Being the Wicked Witch of the West is not ethnic?
Now, if I were to characterize her as a mob boss (and high ranking politicians often act in a manner not dissimilar to a mafioso), that might have something to do with her husband’s ethnicity. Or, if I called her an out and out Papist. Otherwise, how is any criticism that does not involve demeaning her Italian ancestry and surname any kind of ethnic sort of slur to Mr. Thrill up his leg?
“Why is the Bible so badly written?
The obvious answer is that the Bible was not actually dictated by a deity
Millions of evangelicals and other Christian fundamentalists believe that the Bible was dictated by God to men who acted essentially as human transcriptionists. If that were the case, one would have to conclude that God is a terrible writer. Many passages in the Bible would get kicked back by any competent editor or writing professor, kicked back with a lot of red ink — often more red than black.
Mixed messages, repetition, bad fact-checking, awkward constructions, inconsistent voice, weak character development, boring tangents, contradictions, passages where nobody can tell what the heck the writer meant to convey. This doesn’t sound like a book that was dictated by a deity.
A well-written book should be clear and concise, with all factual statements accurate and characters neither two-dimensional nor plagued with multiple personality disorder — unless they actually are. A book written by a god should be some of the best writing ever produced. It should beat Shakespeare on enduring relevance, Stephen Hawking on scientific accuracy, Pablo Neruda on poetry, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn on ethical coherence, and Maya Angelou on sheer lucid beauty — just to name a few.”
https://www.salon.com/2018/02/04/why-is-the-bible-so-badly-written_partner/
This is a level of retardation that only salon could approach.
Do they think God supposedly wrote the Bible? Because that is high level stupidity.
My favorite Pastor used marvel at how we see the people in the Bible with all their flaws and warts.
Many passages in the Bible would get kicked back by any competent editor or writing professor, kicked back with a lot of red ink — often more red than black.
Have they actually opened the Bible? The New Testament is filled with red ink already.
Editor sort of trailed off on his efforts after the first four books
Got called away, as it were.
He had something to cross off his list.
Totally agree. While we’re at it, that Shakespeare guy is overrated too — have you seen his writing?! It’s not clear an concise at all! Try reading this:
“Out, damned spot! Out, I say! – One, two. Why, then, ’tis time to do ‘t. Hell is murky! – Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call out power to account? – Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him.” Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 1
Why is it so poorly written? Shakespeare was clearly a terrible writer.
But it has such a great twist ending!
“The obvious answer is…”
It is a thousand campfire stories from a thousand storytellers over a thousand years cobbled together with authoritarian narratives from a completely different culture stirred in then translated from Aramaic to Latin to English…English being a language cobbled together from a thousand dialects of speakers of yet another completely different culture, none of whom could understand each other for the specific purpose of being the new language of the bible.
Considering all of that it turned out pretty well.
Odds that the Salon author read the bible in the original hebrew/aramaic/greek?
New Hampshire woman balks at lottery rule requiring disclosure of her identity after winning over half a billion dollars. I don’t blame her, to be honest. I would be intensely saddened to discover all the shitheels in my life.
Pay some bum a million bucks to be the “winner” so you can remain anonymous.
The issue is that she’s already signed the ticket
Because it’s basically a bearer-bond until you sign it. Lot’s of people would be willing to kill her for half a $billion.
Most big-time lottery winners I’ve heard of say that it’s the worst thing that ever happened to them. Getting that kind of money all at once is 1) very turbulent for a person who is probably from the lower class and has no idea how to manage that kind of cash, and 2) damaging for their social/family life since everyone expects them to “donate” a ton of the money to them since the lottery winner didn’t really work for that money anyway.
If I played the lottery at all, I don’t think I’d ever play for sums larger than $100,000. That would be just enough to pay off the house and make some investments, but not enough to turn my entire life upside down.
Oh, I do the lottery from time to time, but I have a gameplan that I’ll never have to execute upon, should I ever win.
The success of the plan relies primarily upon my ability to tell ANYONE and EVERYONE to fuck off when they come begging for some of my filthy, unearned lucre.
“Spirit Airlines employee told student to flush emotional support hamster down the toilet, student alleges
A college student said she flushed her emotional support hamster down the toilet after Spirit Airlines refused to let her bring her furry pet on the plane.
Belen Aldecosea, 21, of Miami Beach, Florida, told the Miami Herald that she contacted Spirit Airlines before her flight from Baltimore to South Florida on Nov. 21, 2017, regarding traveling with her dwarf hamster, Pebbles. Aldecosea claimed the airline told her it was not a problem to bring her hamster on the flight.
However, when the student arrived at the airport she said the airline refused to let Pebbles on the plane. Aldecosea said she did not have many options since her family was in Florida and her friends were hours away. The student claimed a Spirit employee suggested she either flush Pebbles down the toilet or let the animal free.
Aldecosea skipped her flight and tried to rent a car instead, but said she was too young to rent one. So she did what she felt was the most humane choice.
“She was scared. I was scared. It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet,” Aldecosea said. “I was emotional. I was crying. I sat there for a good 10 minutes crying in the stall.”
The student said she considered letting Pebbles run free outside but could not bear thinking of her hamster freezing to death or getting hit.”

Poor hamster 🙁
get it in writing
Just like Dumbo & his feather, turns out she didn’t need Pebbles to fly all along.
Didn’t try the Richard Gere method of gerbil smuggling?
Christ, what an asshole!
In fairness the gerbil probably had more legroom than he did
emotional support hamster
Shut it down.
What!? The “most humane choice” was to flush her hamster down the toilet?! I see emotional support is a one-way street for Belen, Jesus. Seriously, it’s a dwarf hamster, stick him in your purse with a carrot and zip it shut. It’s like a four hour flight max. You might get some hamster pee on your makeup.
Don’t they search purses?
Too young to use the internet too, it seems.
Of course, if the hamster identified as a chihuahua, it would be a different thing entirely.
I think the hamster was better off being flushed than having to travel on Spirit.
The entire business model is to dupe people who rarely fly into booking for the low, low price and then discovering that EVERYTHING costs extra when they get there. Bags (lots more), printing a boarding pass (yup, costs extra), a seat in the pressurized cabin.
It’s lucky they didn’t try to sell it off as a snack..

Cuck.
Ah the joys of (quasi) government health insurance. We were insured by Kaiser Permanente that we paid for on our own as I’m self employed. My wife just went back to work a month back and we now have (actual) insurance provided by her new work. So I called in the middle of January to cancel the plan. They wouldn’t let me cancel it that exact day but told me it would be cancelled at the end of the billing period. A letter would be sent to confirm the cancellation. Look a couple days ago at my bank statement and they charged us 1300 and change for February. This is for insurance that is basically a bad joke. The deductibles went through the roof with Obummercare. I called them up and they said that I would have to fax or mail them in a dispute (this is 2018,right?) they would try and resolve within two weeks. Yeah, right. At least the credit card company is still not quite a government entity. They charged it back and it will be in our account within two days.
I’m sure every aspect of your situation would have been resolved much quicker and easier if the government were in charge of every aspect of the healthcare industry.
The lesson here is to NEVER let anyone do automatic withdrawals from your bank account. I have declined incentives that would supposedly would save me money because they came attached to automatic withdrawals or the expectation of allowing that. Never.
Not only will Trump get Mexico to pay for the wall, he’ll get illegal aliens to leave voluntarily
Speaking to CNN, one of these DREAMers, Alex Velez said that, “I will leave. I will leave America as soon as possible,” claiming that she would prefer to depart the country on her own terms than wait for the United States to collect and deport her.
The theory appears to be that, if DREAMers suddenly disappear, Americans will notice their absence. Velez and her sister claim they own businesses, pay tuition, and hold jobs, and that America has a duty to keep them here in order to maintain their contributions.
Um…ok.
Well…bye.
I am sure there are actually a number of people who were smuggled into the country by their parents and who know no other country than this one. I am very empathetic to them, but I think the numbers are exaggerated. It is the perfect moral dilemma for the democrats to exploit.
pay tuition at instate resident rated, rather than international student rates?
hold jobs supported by fraudulent I9 forms?
The cherry on top of the DACA & illegals BS is these illegal activists can’t just advocate for changing policy, it’s got to be “yeah, we’re breaking the law and fuck you too”. Guess what? You’re not citizens of this country and whatever voice you have is on sufferance. ICE needs to start hitting nails that willfully stick themselves up and self identify themselves as illegal.
I’ve told the story here before, but I spent a day in a DACA clinic. I have empathy for the kids who had no choice and have no connection to their homeland.
