Mobile gaming, allowing people to play board games on their phones or tablets (either hotseat or against online players), has been growing, with Asmodee digital doubling down in this category. Several of the games I’ve discussed earlier have solid mobile versions already: Patchwork and Jaipur. Both implementations allow for hotseat, online play, or play against an AI. Today we’ll go over a couple of other games that have been ported to Android (and I believe they are all on iOS as well, so fear not Apple fans).
Game 1) It’s time to save the world – Pandemic
Pandemic is a co-op game, this means that it is the players vs. the game instead of the players vs. the players. In general, I’m not a big fan of co-op games in face to face play, because the game plays more like a puzzle with multiple people all trying to solve it at once. Playing solo removes my aversion for co-ops, as no longer do I have to worry about someone else making a poor move costing the game, now I just have to worry about me making a poor move. In this game, there are four different diseases spreading across the country, and your team of specialists (between 2-4 of them) must cure all four of the diseases to win. There are different roles, all of which allow you to take special actions, or modify a rule. The game ends when you have either cured all four diseases, you are unable to place a disease cube of the correct color, or eight outbreaks have occurred. Each specialist gets four action points a turn, which can be spent on:
- Moving. Move to an adjacent city, discard a card for a city and move there, or discard the card of the city you’re in to move to any other city. If you are at a research station, you can move to any other research station.
- Treat disease. Remove one cube of one color from the city you are in (all cubes if the disease is cured).
- Build a Research Station. Discard the city you are in and place a research station
- Share cards. Give another player in the same city as you the card for that city.
- Cure Disease. Use five cards of the same color to cure a disease.
- Pass. End the specialists turn (Not used frequently)
There are also Event cards that you can play which do not require action points. After ending your turn, you draw from the city deck. Then you draw from the infection deck to see where the diseases spread, which includes a number of Epidemic cards (I’ll explain those in a bit). The number of cities you draw from the infection deck depends on the difficulty and how many outbreaks have occured. In each of the locations you drew from the infection deck, you must place a cube of the appropriate color disease. If any city then winds up with three cubes (or more) of the same color in it, then you have an outbreak which spreads the disease to all cities adjacent to the one suffering the outbreak (this can cascade through multiple cities). The only time cubes aren’t added to the board is if the disease has been eradicated. An eradicated disease has no cubes on the board at all. When you hit an Epidemic card, one city is selected to get three cubes of the correct color added to it, and then you shuffle the infection deck back together and draw cards again. As you can see, it’s very easy to watch your game spiral out of control.
Game 2) Lightweight economic engine building – Splendor (2-4 players online, solo against 1-3 AI’s)
Splendor is a race to 15 points. Each turn a player can take one of the following four actions:
- Take three gems of different colors (with a limit of 10 in their hand)
- Take two gems of the same color, as long as there are at least 4 to begin with
- Purchase a card by paying gems
- Reserve a card by putting it into their hand (limit of 3), and taking a gold gem (wild card)
As you purchase cards, they will provide you a free gem for any later purchases you make. This allows you to purchase more expensive cards later in the game. There are three tiers of cards, each with their own deck. The first tier of cards are worth at most 1 point (with most being worth no points), while the second tier is between 1 – 3 points, and the third tier between 3 – 5 points. There are also nobles that you can claim at the end of your turn. Nobles will either require that you have four free gems of two colors, or three free gems of three colors. Each noble is worth 3 points. The end game is triggered once one player reaches 15 points, at that point play continues until everyone has taken an equal number of turns.
Game 3) Deck building that doesn’t require shuffling – Star Realms
This is a small, light deck building game that you can pick up a physical copy of for ~$10. We touched on deck building games earlier, but this is the first I’ve brought up. Both players start with the same 10 card deck. Through the course of the game, players buy cards from the center to make their deck better. While this is going on, both players are attacking the other, trying to reduce them to 0 authority (health). There are four different colors of cards you can buy, and most have a bonus ability if you play more than one of them a turn. They have special names for the colors, but each color has a focus:
- Blue – Healing and drawing more cards
- Green – Massive damage and base destruction
- Red – Trashing cards from your hand/discard pile
- Yellow – Drawing more cards, and forcing your opponent to discard cards
You can play the AI for free, but you will need to pay if you wish to play online against real opponents. The game allows for real time and asynchronous (48 hours a move) play.
Game 4) Yes, I am breeding sheep – Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small
Uwe Rosenberg returns, with another two player game. This game is a worker placement game in which you are trying to efficiently build up a farm. You do this by getting resources, building fields, and getting animals to put into the field. When placing animals on your board, each area can only contain one type of animal. So you need to plan ahead to enclose enough areas that you will be able to store all of the animals you’re getting. At the end of each round, there is also a breeding phase, where if you have at least 2 of a type of animal, you’ll get another one. The game is played over 8 rounds, with each player getting 3 actions per round. At the end of the game, you’ll score points based on how many of each type of animal you have, any fully utilized extension boards, and for buildings. If you have any animals that you did not get at least 3 of, then you will lose points for that type of animal.
We’ve gone through some midweight games, and with this little breather, next week I’ll be tackling some of the heavier games that are out there.
In this installment, Nephilium asks “Is that a game in your pocket?”
It all depends on your definition of the word “game”.
The only appropriate answer
Always good Reading, I still like 500 Rummy, but online? still searching,
Another excellent post, Nephilium – much appreciated!
I’m going to check-out Pandemic.
Pandemic Legacy was one of the best games I have ever played. We are now in the beginning of Legacy 2…
OT: Hi Admins! I just posted an article that is topical to the government shutdown and probably won’t make much sense if it’s posted after they reopen the government. Just wanted to let you know in case you want to expedite publication because of that.
Thanks!
*rummages around in-box*
Now that your’re here… I put an article in for today at the usual time. Did I do something wrong?
That chick in the yoga pants this morning? You know what you thought.
Do you mean my wife, “Scottsdale” lady at the hardware store, or Wal-Mart lady in the cleaning products aisle?
Yes.
MS,
I have forwarded on to the powers that be above even me…
I was at a members event at my local, Old Chubb nitro, Barrel aged Ten Fiddy and Perrin’s No Rules on tap…
Needless to say, my productivity was shot today.
Just got back from the run down to Akron. The girlfriend found 2 meads and some sweet potato butter. I brought back 5 bombers of beer (from Hoppin’ Frog and Maize Valley), and a growler of an Xtra Pale Ale that I don’t have high hopes for, but it was $10 including the empty growler.
I don’t know Perrin’s No Rules, but if it is in the same league as Old Chubb and Ten Fiddy, it is excellent.
Old Chubb, nice.
MS,
Article found….tomorrow it will go up. Everything is fine. THERE IS NO RADIOACTIVE LEAK! Really….honest.
I’m still aquainting myself with the software. Don’t know if I messed something up or if I just went too far by insulting the Scots.
I’ve really enjoyed my Ticket to Ride app on my phone. Frankly, it’s a bit more fun to play when you don’t have to do scorekeeping between turns.
Suburbia really benefits from the change to an app. Playing face to face you have to constantly be monitoring changes and other effects, while the app just handles it all for you.
Images from the Women’s March
someone tweeted this as ‘a perfect example of how retarded everyone has become’ :
“A man dressed as Captain America (complete with shield) takes photos of a witch contingent on the sidewalk of the Capitol”
the witches are carrying placards saying things like, “end capitalism” and “give back native lands”. Because of course they are.
a sign reading “Trump is the first president since 1897 to not have a dog”
because these are serious people with serious concerns.
This goes back to something I said in SP’s advice thread. People who think humans suck and animals to be the only decent companions are toxic. Even as somebody with 4 pets, I find the humanization of pets to be sickening. I find it even more sickening when people who don’t share their emotional toxicity are tarred and feathered for not being dog people.
/rant
We’re Glibs. Don’t we think most people suck?
It’s know, Ted, there is no think.
Some conservative site – Federalist, maybe? – had an article recently about people getting pets and treating them like children instead of actually having children. I only saw it because one of my SJW acquaintances on FB posted it so that she and her fellow travelers could attack it.
The comments on her post were fun, because they all did the “So what they’re saying is” thing that Gilmore pointed out in the Jordan Peterson interview video – “So they’re saying people shouldn’t have pets?”, “So they’re saying that childless people are subhumans who deserve to die?”, etc.
I remember the Clintons had Socks the cat; they had a dog too?
Poor Socks got to see more than he bargained for whenever he got locked in the Oval Office.
if i recall, it was “buddy” or something.
like many clinton associates, it died suddenly
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_(dog)
I..er…da fuq?
To watch these retards, you would think that all of the world’s problems have already been solved. Of course they haven’t, one of the biggest remaining problems is what can we do with these retards who are a total waste of resources. Can we make them their own country where they can just retard away and no one has to see or hear them?
I find it funny how they’ve updated the marxist rhetoric of “exploitation” to “oppression”. Sane folks don’t find working a job exploitative, but they’re more likely to believe in systemic oppression.
I’ll add that this is clearly put on by the local communists, as illustrated by the “Working Women of the World Unite” sign in the background.
How do you know it is not the world wide hookers union?
WWHU!!
Looks like a university. I’m thinking CA is their wise professor. Either that our the CWA has hit rock bottom.
End capitalism. It always comes down to that, doesnt it? Some kind of demoralizing gibberish topped off with ‘end capitalism’. Ask them to define capitalism and if you can make any sense of it usually it ends up with the kind of cronyism that their favored pol is up to in their eyeballs.
Either that or it’s the fact that they don’t get a life of leisure at the expense of working class schmucks like you and I.
It’s evil. The past 20-30 years and shift to freer markets in China, Vietnam and parts of Africa have brought more people out of poverty than at any other time in history. These people want to end that.
When the whole social justice scene is characterized as Cultural Marxism, it’s not just an analogy. Scratch just below the surface on any of these social justice movements and you find the whole thing is being pushed by a bunch of commies.
basically
many don’t actually call themselves socialist/communist anymore (tho they might rally w/ the workers of the world, or socialist parties on every occasion)
the “movements” these people pretend to be part of is always a constantly changing, re-branding of the same old shit.
environmentalism was basically the same, shitty socialists using a new platform to try to advance shitty socialism.
These people who pretend that we live in some horrible “Racist, sexist, oppressive” age were the ones claiming the planet was being destroyed in the 1970s. of course, they still do, but their moan-du-jour is always switching.
Whatever it is, there’s always complete certainty in it, and absolutely no evidence that its true. the leftist impulse is its basically ‘religion’, and always has been. its their replacement for it.
they hate the disorder of the market and believe man is sinful and that we’re always bringing the end of the world down upon ourselves. only the one true faith can save us.
but even if it doesn’t, the one true faith still lets them maintain moral superiority, and justifies their perpetual jihad
I think the ‘random stupid protests that have completely mixed messages’ phenomena is largely a product of the fact that there legitimately is very little legal ‘oppression’ in modern day states, barring issues like surveillance that these people don’t seem to give a shit about. Look at the protests in Iran, or the more historical ones in the U.S. Sure, there’s people with different ideologies and ideals backing them, but they tend to have some form of leadership and a coherent message behind the whole thing based on the actual oppression they suffered, i.e. “we don’t want a theocratic state”, “we want legal equality for blacks’. Whereas something like Occupy praises itself for its ‘lack of leadership’ and dozens of random screaming voices ‘saying their truth’ that functionally makes the entire thing pointless.
This combined with the component of ‘protest as social signalling’ and the fact that if changes would actually occur it would undermine their core identity makes it all an incoherent mess.
They had a term for this in the past… rabblerousing
That doesn’t make any sense. Wasn’t Steve Rodgers effectively turned into a libertarianish douche by marvel?
No, he was a Nazi for awhile recently and now they’re desperately backpedaling on it.
I didn’t see the last movie so pardon my ignorance, but are you being serious?
Ah, movies vs. comics. In the movies Cap’s still generally the old timey shitlord he was, but in the comics they had a ‘twist’ where Cap has secretly been working for Hydra all along mostly because the writers and editors at Marvel wanted to shit on an American icon.
This backfired horrifically for them and they tried to sell a massive crossover that was all about how this wasn’t the real Captain America but a product of magic or time travel or some fuckery. Now they’re trying to fix the character with a ‘back to roots’ line that no one is buying because they’re pissed off.
Yeah, its been a while since I visited the samurai neckbeard.
Maybe it’s too much to expect grown-ups to be involved with the comic book business, but you’d think someone would have stopped this shit before it left the office. You have a multi-million dollar franchise. It’s actually bringing in money for your company. Don’t. Shit. On. Your. Product.
The editor in chief of Marvel at the time, Axel Alonso, was massively pro-socialist and SJW. He’s been fired recently and replaced with a weeb, so things might turn around, but insiders are saying that some of the decisions are coming from The Mouse.
He was one of the last Marvel characters who wasn’t made a total turd and half-villain by that point.
Their entire “classic” lineup of characters at this point is a horde of shitters who are morally inferior to the cast of Watchmen, The Comedian included.
Their new generation is a horde of sociopathic monsters right off the bat. At this point, Gwenpool is the only sane one (she wears costume because not wearing one makes you a casualty, and gives zero fucks about what she does since most places and people don’t exist until they’re needed by the story).
Their entire “classic” lineup of characters at this point is a horde of shitters who are morally inferior to the cast of Watchmen, The Comedian included
I have no doubt what you’re saying is true. What I don’t understand is why the execs would allow it. Marvel is, or is at least supposed to be, a business, at the end of the day. Making your heros into dickheads isn’t a good way to have that business make money.
Same thing!!! /derp
I probably have friends down there stewing in that nonsense. None of them are Communists that I know of, and yet the left gives everyone else grief for any fringes they might attract.
I’m so glad that the internet has given all the mentally disturbed losers a voice. It’s just that I don’t think anyone should listen to them unless it’s for comedy entertainment.
We love playing Pandemic. Esp as a couple of people in our group get a little hyper-competitive and the co-op helps with that.
Pandemic was okay the first couple of times, but you’ve perfectly articulated why I started losing interest. When the consensus is “let’s do something dumb this turn,” then the luster of co-op fades away. Star Realms is pretty good, the group I’m in just doesn’t rotate around to that one very much.
What are your thoughts on legacy games? I got Risk Legacy for the holidays and we’ve played one game so far. I think the concept is great, as it combines the ‘campaign’ nature of tabletop RPGs with board games pretty nicely. I hear Risk Legacy can be wonky the more you play it, but Pandemic Legacy was supposedly great, although that co-op thing sort of turns me off.
Having said that, I got into the KS for Centauri Saga: Season 1, which is co-op that includes a legacy add-on. So we’ll see.
I picked up Pandemic Legacy for the girlfriend last Christmas. We played it once, were successful, and it’s been sitting on the shelf since. I love the concept and idea behind legacy games, but I dislike that you need to basically schedule time with the same group of players, and commit to playing just this game for those sessions.
Well, the group I’m in are also huge D&D nerds, but my interest in that has waned over the last few years. So it’s often the same group of people hanging out already.
Pandemic Legacy kept 4 of us, including several WBC multiple time champions, enthralled. Pandemic Legacy 2 is even harder….
I played few games of Risk Legacy and it’s great, especially if you can play with mostly the same group. It can get unbalanced, but deal with it – there’s a pre-game drafting phase, so if one faction is strong, goddamn get it. And if the guy who’s in the lead got it, don’t let him have first placement or extra reinforcement cards too.
It also has an advantage of one game taking 45-60 minutes, not dragging like real Risk.
My friends are deep into a campaign of Gloomhaven, and they’re loving it to pieces. It’s basically streamlined D&D campaign with no DM. Heavy on tactical combat.
Pandenic is ok, but I dont particularly care for cooperative games.
Any plans on covering Innovation at any point. I love the original, not as big a fan of the expansions.
Great as a 2 player game, and chaotic as hell as a 4 player game.
I’ve got a long list, and Innovation may pop up on it at some point. I’ve been playing a lot more of it since Board Game Arena added it as a playable game. I had to laugh at the pricing for the “Deluxe version”… $45.
Yeah; I’m the sort of person who would rather do cooperative games as a one-player puzzle. Scotland Yard ought to be just a two-player game too.

The Last Jedi massively flopped in China.
I can just see the executives going “WHY AREN’T THOSE GODDAMN CHINKS WATCHING OUR MOVIE? WE PUT AN ASIAN IN AN EVERYTHING!”
Because the Chinese love the Vietnamese.
Why do they try to make mivies appeal to China? Do the Chinese try to make movies that appeal to Americans? At least, on purpose. Rumble in HtmBronx was pretty good.
Why do they try to make movies appeal to China?
A billion screaming Chinamen. They budget around success in the Asian market nowadays.
There were.
$$
China is expected to be the biggest theatrical market in the next 5 years, although some of those numbers have been fudged and they have been caught a couple times. They also often don’t pay the share that is owed to the foreign owners of the film and the government limits the amount of foreign films allowed in the country. Filming in China is also apparently awful due to poor infrastructure, lack of employee skills and government regulation, the Chinese mainly Wanda also have heavily invested in the American film market to get around some of the troubles with their domestic market and Despite all this the executives are tripping all over themselves trying to please China. When clearly there is money there but the government tips the scales towards domestic success. Some movies in China have made amounts of money that is very hard to believe, I haven’t seen it but I have my doubts this actually made 850 Million American dollars. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9LD71qZx_HA

I get that there is an emerging market there. I’m just thinking one of the dozens of reasons nobody wants to see movies anymore is they are making one movie suit multiple, dissimilar cultures. If they wanted to make a movie for China, they could, you know, make a movie to sell in China.
I realize I’m a bit of a crumudgeon and the last movie I actually enjoyed seeing in the theater was Hell or High Water.
If they wanted to make a movie for China, they could, you know, make a movie to sell in China.
They do, why do you think they keep making Transformer movies?
It’s bad business instinct and ego. Every movie studio wants to be Disney. You can’t run your business like Disney without their ip and there are only so many avengers and star wars level properties out there. They have mostly aimed to copy Disney and failed rather than finding their own niche. The studio everyone should copy is blumhouse not Disney. They keep their budgets low, market their films well, and have a good sense for finding talent and for how much a franchise can expand. Paramount in particular is basically a money pit at this point.
What?! You mean the Chinese aren’t totally down with “The Resistance” and eager to shell out for a movie focused on the need to fight the male, white-supremacist, cis-normative, hetero-patriarchy? Who’d have ever thought that?
As has every other Star Wars movie. There are two reasons for this. The first is that China was deep in cultural isolation when the original trilogy came out. As such, there is no nostalgia factor driving them to see the prequels or Episodes 7-9. The second reason is that once the Chinese were exposed to Star Wars it was nothing special as it’s basically just space wuxia. From the Chinese point of view, everything that Star Wars does has already been done better by other domestic franchises which specifically appeal to the Chinese demographic.
Not to the same extent. 92% of all theatres in China dropped it after the first week. It’s true that Star Wars never does that well in the Chinese market but its made one-tenth of the Force Awaken’s total box office.
*Chinese total box office that is.
China was deep in cultural isolation when the original trilogy came out
Everybody was. Youtube and Pornhub had not been invented yet.
Pandemic is pretty fun, I played the legacy version for awhile until my wife and her coworkers wife had a falling out. There is a Cthulhu version that looks interesting.
I’m about an hour from finishing cleaning grout off my brother’s floor. That puts me at twenty hours thrown away on this project. Don’t let grout dry on your tile, it’s a fucking travesty.
We’re no longer issuing Marriage Licenses. Just documentation certifying that you’re married.
https://hotair.com/archives/2018/01/20/marriage-licenses-may-soon-extinct-alabama/
Bake the cake, bigot.
I guess it’s a step in the right direction.
I believe in total separation of marriage and state save for the enforcement of terms of a contract. If a couple wants certain provisions in the event of a divorce, they should specify those things in the contract. The boilerplate contract could say that the spouses cannot marry anyone else, and if they divorce, the assets will be split in such and such a way.
There’s no need to have a big government database of married couples; there are all kinds of contracts enforceable in court that are not on file with the government.
BUT MUH TAX BRAKE!!!
Seriously I could not agree more with separation of marriage and state. The only people/entity who should be concerned with a persons relationship status is the people in the relationship.
Yep, that’s always the reply I get. They never have an answer for why this tax break for married couples should exist at all. What’s the purpose of that, some kind of social engineering scheme to encourage marriage? What about poor and ugly people? Why should they have to pay more in taxes so that the government can give tax breaks to married couples?
Yes, it’s there to encourage people marrying, to encourage (let’s face it, in 90% of the cases) mother to stay and home and father to stick around, and to not punish marrying down in social status.
The last one was a controversy up here in Canada when Conservatives proposed to allow married couples to split taxes – a husband making $100K a year with stay-at-home wife would be taxed at the same rate as two people making $50000 each. Left of course hated it, but I’m a fan of people marrying across class lines – it has been an engine of social mobility for thousands of years.
Yes, it’s social engineering – but so is most of the tax code. Ought/is and all that…
Years ago I heard a woman caller on a radio call in show claim that married people with children should be exempt from SS taxes as they were raising and paying for the next generation of taxpayers. I thought about that for a moment and wondered if she may have a point….. I then yelled shut up bitch, nobody should pay SS taxes and you deduct the little fuckers as it is.
It is social engineering and social engineering can kiss my ass. Like people would stop fucking and or raise a family if they didn’t get a tax break. It is what we do as human animals. idiots. Now the tax payer pays single mothers to raise kids so I guess that social engineering for marriage was a big fail.
DON’T ANY OF YOU PEOPLE POST?!
Sorry, I needed to paint a bathroom.
You know who else was a painter?
Samuel Morse?
George W. Bush?
Vincent Van Gogh?
Eldin Bernecky?
This guy
Winston Churchill?
Gary Ridgeway?
I don’t know, but I heard he at least had a dog…unlike SOMEONE IN THE WHITE HOUSE I MIGHT MENTION.
That really stoned guy who drives around with a ladder on the roof of his van?
I just got back home. I need booze. I’m so fucking tired, I’ve been working my ass off. 6 hours of fucking meetings yesterday. They were productive, but I spent about the same amount of time writing code. Time to unwind a little here.
I just cracked a Stone IPA. Steaks are thawing on the counter. Oven roasted red potatoes with olives and lemon. Cabbage and parsley salad.
*Cheers, Buddy!*
Just popped open the bottle of Eagle Rare I picked up yesterday. And I have 3 Carlsberg left, buzz time. Haven’t even thought about dinner yet, maybe wifey will do something…
Cheers!
Paging MLW…
I think I’m going to be sick. Pushing this crap on children. Like this. Detention and suspension for the ringleaders for this pointless grandstanding bullshit.
Thanks for spoiling Powell’s – now I have no place to purchase books with my quatloos.
….Don’t watch Queer Kids on Youtube. It may kill you.
“There is a system in place in society that makes survivors of sexual violence (and) harassment feel small, a system that we believe the South Eugene High School administration is contributing to. We are young people who want a better future. A safe future. A future where sexual misconduct is not tolerated or ignored. Action has not been taken by the adults of the administration, so action has been taken by the youth of Eugene.”
Three guesses what that system is.
I dont know what else to quote from that article. The whole thing reads like an instructional missal on how to recognize useful idiots.
They don’t see the difference, they’re still kids themselves. Toddlers actually.
LOL.

Kids are feminists too!“Feminists are kids too!”
Fixed it for them.
Currently still playing AC Black Flag. I think I’m going to pick up Rogue after this, I love these ship battles.
I’ve thought about reinstalling that game. The ship battles were a lot of fun.
Get Rogue if you haven’t played it, it has ship battles also and is a newer game, probably better graphics.
Rogue’s the only one I haven’t gotten. I kept thinking about pulling the trigger but for whatever reason I never did. I’ll probably pick it up at some point. I’ve got the newest one in my active rotation and that’s restored my faith in the series.
It’s only $20 on Steam right now.
It’s more the bazillion other games I’m playing right now than the price. I’m trying to avoid getting more games (no thanks to Humble Monthly) before I finish the one’s I’ve got. I have a bunch of games I’ve bought that I’ve never even played, and I’m trying to wean myself away.
Heh, I have a LOT of games I’ve never played. Right now, I could actually reinstall Mass Effect Andromeda and play it since I only spent a few hours on it first time. If I only played the games I already own, I’d probably never run out of something to play. I’ve really scaled back on buying games now, I only buy one if it’s a have to play right now.
I recently grabbed Prey for under $20 on the Humble Store. I’ve got about 2 hours into it so far, and if they can keep up the tension and atmosphere, I’ll say it was well worth the purchase price.
I’d be interested in seeing what you think of Prey after a few more hours in. I got to a certain point pretty early on where I kind of just lost interest. I won’t go into too much detail, but based on the Steam forums after a few hours it separates into two main camps, one that loves the game and one that gets bored by it, and I fell into the latter camp. Which sucks, because I really wanted to like it.
I’ll let you know. So far it’s right up there with System Shock 2 and the original Deus Ex for me. But I’m well aware that can change relatively quickly. I’m entertained by the fact that one of the weapons I built is a Nerf crossbow.
I loved the game for that very reason. I also liked it that the story played fair, so there were hints about what’s going on if you pay attention.
Looks like I made a right call when I decided not to invest into…basically superpower upgrades, and focus on hacking/stealth. I’ve seen complaints that powers can make the game too easy, but I was sweating for a large part of it.
It looks good, but it sort of seems like more action, are there any RPG elements in there for an RPG fan?
So far (again, only a couple of hours in) it’s very atmospheric, and includes a skill and inventory system that may draw in an RPG fan. There’s three skill trees, suit modifications, weapon modifications, and crafting so far. I’m sure more will be revealed as I continue to play.
In addition to stats/skills improvement as mentioned, you can also learn stuff about other people (including your character) from the environment, and it set up a few moral choice-type things that were not the usual bland stuff (be bad and get shiny trinket! be good and get a slightly less shiny trinket fifteen minutes from now!).
Some of the characters you deal with are quite well developed, too. Particularly the brother – I loved-hated his tiny shriveled huckstery profit-seeking soul.
I liked to jump ship, swim to the vessel I was attacking and kill everyone on board, then when I went back to my ship I could take their ship without a battle. You can’t do that in Rogue because you freeze if you stay in the water too long.
I stopped doing it. Now I just use the swivel gun to kill enough of them to win the battle.
No, I mean if you kill everyone on the ship first, you can just go take the ship without a naval battle.
Oh… I’ve never tried that. I like the naval battles too much.
It helped me get bigger ships like Man’o’War for my fleet before I had upgraded my ship enough to reliably win those battles.
Upgrading your ship is quite a grind. Typical open world RPG.
CPRM I watched all your fan edits last weekend and then drug out my copy of IV to finish the set but have not continued on yet. I am not as geeky about the prequel movies as some so I can’t tell what you cut/rearranged but I do remember first impressions when I watched the originals and I was not impressed with any of them. Your cuts were not like that at all and left no bad taste like thinking, “really, I just wasted two hours” as I felt with the originals. Nice work.
Considering playing through Bastion while getting proper drunk. The ex used to watch me play, and vice versa. I don’t pine for her, she was just a lot of fun. Nostalgia goldmine. And it’s a fun game.
Since Suthhen seems to be around, I’ll mention we’re trying avocado toast this afternoon. Not bad and the Costco avocado is perfect.
You’re dead to this board.
Well. I do like pineapple on pizza.
Actually,my favorite pizza is pepperoni and sauerkraut. True story.
Pepperoni and sauerkraut? wtf is wrong with you? Did you grow up in a German slum next door to some wops? Like with Mozz cheese and tomato sauce, or like with a mustard base and topped with extra bratwurst?

Not even baked…if I wanted crap like that I’d walk two blocks.
I like banana peppers, so I can see sauerkraut.
Is avocado toast actually just avocado on toast? A friend of mine once offered to make me “cheesebread” in high school, and I assumed it was some kind of bread with cheese baked into it. It was a slice of bread with a slice of cheese put in the toaster oven on “lo”.
Mostly OT: Is price the variable that determines whether your stupid damned smoke alarm will go nuts when you’re roasting an eye round with olive oil on it but not make a peep when your wife starts a fire and forgets to open the flue? Asking for a friend.
Is avocado toast actually just avocado on toast?
Yes.
Location is everything
That’s what gets me. The fireplace is closer and in the same main room as the alarm, which is at the foot of the staircase. The oven is in the kitchen, around the corner.
The Staircase is the problem. there is always a bit of negative pressure, and Your cooking smoke is drawn by the Staircase acting like a Vent, Move the SD away
Ahhhh…that makes sense.
Just toast some french bread, brush on a little olive oil sprinkle with with salt and pepper. Then smear on some smashed avocado.
Or chuck the toast, grab some chips, and make guac.
You made avocado bread?
I put avocado in salads, love it. It has a lot of good dietary fat too.
Sounds Tasty!

AAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHH!
At this rate everyone who would vote against him next term will be dead from rage strokes!
LOL..now that is funny.
Wow.
The comments….oh, the comments. I may be having a mini-stroke from laughing……
Seems like the democrats are getting grabbed by the pussy.
Looks like Trump may get the Wall.
http://thehill.com/homenews/house/369945-gutierrez-ready-to-give-in-on-wall
When Gutierrez (one of the most forceful voices in favor of illegal immigration) blinks, the Dems don’t have much leverage.
Oh. My. God.
If Trump gets the Democrats to sign off on funding for the Wall, he’s won. That’s game, set, and match. He’s actually going to get Moobs to give him money for a wall in exchange for a reduced version of DACA. If he pulls this off, he’s got 2020 locked, assuming he hasn’t already.
I actually have to disagree here. Trump needs to let DACA expire and not build a wall.
Gutierrez – is this the same Gutierrez that the feds are going to try again?
Ok, not the same guy I guess.
That was Menendez, right? Fuck, they all look the same to me!
I thought that was the Chinee?
Them chingalings too. I can only tell the women apart by grabbing them by the pussy.
I don’t know, man. I think the thing most associated with Trump’s presidency is the Wall. It was a huge joke for the Dems and a symbol for his supporters. Everything about MAGA centered around “Build That Wall!” It’s so symbolic that I think a victory on that is more meaningful than a victory on DACA, in part because it requires that he pull the Democrats in to support it, and because the Republicans don’t care for it very much. It’s a win for Trump rather than a win for the Republicans.
At least that’s how I see it. In terms of actual policy, I think the wall is a terrible idea and I think letting DACA expire is probably the best way to expose the problems with our immigration policy, but I live in Maryland so nobody cares what I think about that.
Lolwut?
Remember, your Mexican, they are Democrats, big difference
